Newfield University Education Summary
Overall, Newfield's perspective on the university's transformative possibilities is that the university
is the "institution where blue– and white–collar, children of both workers and managers, citizens of
every racial background were being invited into a unified majority" (4). This majority would be
economically and intellectually prepared for the "New Economy." Newfield believes that
conservatives were opposed to this change in the status quo and because of that started the culture
wars. He continues that "the culture wars have coincided with the majority's economic decline by
reducing the public importance and economic claims of the American university and its graduates"
(6). Thus, the attacks on the public research university university

Especially in such a culturally diverse country as the United States, the College of Education has a
very diverse student body and as students transition into becoming teachers having gained skills
with diversity issues will help greatly in dealing with diversity in the classroom.
Along with dealing with diversity future teachers will have to collaborate and communicate
effectively with fellow teachers and administration at the school. Participating in collaborative
activities will prepare students for being effective communicators in the classroom. Learning new
technologies will greatly benefit future teachers with effective communication tools in the classroom
and the workplace. Technology can be used to present new information as well as document
performance for assessment.
Assessment of performance is paramount in the workplace and the framework helps faculty ensure
they are teaching students to be able to effectively engage in reflection of performance and
implement strategies of improving effectiveness of instruction. Not only must students learn this
necessary skill, but faculty must also reflect on their instruction and assess their performance so they
can implement strategies on becoming better educators as

What Do You Value A University Education?
I chose to interview professor Bayless because he seems like a down to earth guy. He seemed like he
would be easy an interesting to talk to. The questions I asked professor Bayless were: do you value a
University education, why did you decide to become a biology professor, how long have you been at
Washburn and what made you want to come here, do you believe students should get involved in
campus activities and clubs, do you think living on campus your first year is beneficial, and what do
you think is important to help make you successful in college? Professor Bayless does value a
University education for most people, not everyone. He thinks a university education makes a better
citizen and is likely to have a positive influence on society. He doesn 't think you have to be
educated to be a good person, it just helps. I agree with professor Bayless 100%. An education does
not shape you into the person you are, but definitely helps make you a positive influence and a
better person. I believe everyone should at least try a University education. You don 't know if it's
not for you until you try it. Now a days to get a job you need some type of degree and if on your
resume you have a 4 year degree you are at the top of the list. What surprised me the most about
professor Bayless was that he never planned to teach. He took his first job as a teacher just for the
income. He had always wanted to do research, mostly on plants, and never saw himself teaching his
whole life. He

The Purpose Of University Education
The purpose of university education is not only to gain more knowledge for future careers, but to
educate people from becoming illiterate. University education was first established in 1636 by John
Harvard. His first purpose was to train students to becoming Christian ministers, which resulted into
a prestigious school for students to attend. Harvard University, located in Cambridge, Massachusetts
was primarily a puritan college because of the era of strict religious beliefs in society. Students that
attended Harvard were very wealthy because of the high costs that was in demand to receive a
higher education at a private university. As years past, students were not able to continue their
education after high school because they did not have the money to attend a private university, so
the idea of a public university would be established in 1795. The University of North Carolina was
the first public university that gave people who were not rich an opportunity to receive a higher
education, and democratize education for everyone. This university located in Chapel Hill, North
Carolina was established by William Richardson Davie. As more universities were being developed,
a new system of higher education would be introduced in 1901. The first public community college
was Joliet Junior College. Founded under Superintendent J. Stanley Brown and William Rainey
Harper, President of the University of Chicago. This new system of higher education gave more

Education Course At Alcorn State University
In the Foundations of Education course here at Alcorn State University; it is a necessity that we the

INTASTC Standard 10 states that the teacher seeks appropriate leadership roles and opportunities to
take responsibility for student learning, to collaborate with learners, families, colleagues, other

profession. The Interstate Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium is an association of state
education agencies and national educational organizations dedicated to the improvement of the

must be able to mix content knowledge with the specific assets and desires of students to guarantee
that all students absorb and achieve at high levels.
We were assigned to interview a counselor, social worker, school psychologist, school nurse, or
special education teacher regarding their experiences in working with at risk child and youth. I
chose to interview a social worker because a social worker job is to shield vulnerable people,

Pursuing A Higher Education At A University Or Other...
For many individuals preparing to graduate from high school, the choice between pursuing a higher
education, joining the military, or jumping straight into the work force comes into play. Depending
on the person's goals and mindset, the choice between the three may be difficult. While these are all
different options, choosing to follow into a higher education at a university or other institute can
play a key role in a successful career for the future. The downfall of continuing with any sort of
higher education lies heavily on the various prices that come along with the schooling such as
tuition, room and board, books, and the cost of each individual class. These excessive fees prevent a
number of people from seeking to further their schooling. If there were a way to provide education
at a more reasonable price, allowing more people able to afford it, then the rate of college applicants
would increase thus giving more individuals the chance to excel in their career choices and live a
more successful life.
A college education can help provide a person with a substantial amount of positive qualities
including financial security, various skill sets, and the ability to build a remarkable reputation.
Although it's not impossible to acquire a job without further education, it increases an individual's
chances at finding a prominent career along with a wider range of intelligence. College also
provides the chance to become involved in new social scenes and to form relations

most of the time students never get funding from them (Emmons 3). Most people of today can

It provides a way for poorer families to break free from their social strata that they have been put

Instead, citizens should be paid to go to college because they are going there to better themselves as
citizens of the United States. Making new experiences for each individual is important. No one will
enjoy the experience if they have crushing debts to worry about. Education should be out there to
inspire peoples mind and not just filling their head with others perspective. Every individual has the
right to learn and be educated, and have the opportunity to view this world in a different perspective
and do something on their own. But the cost of education is so unaffordable to some mankinds that
it is just ferocious for them to even consider paying those education bills off" ("Should Higher Free

they could then focus they're stress on leaning and getting educated. A student should only have to
worry about exceling him or herself to their best ability without worrying about the price they have

A public university is supposed to be meant for everybody but only those who can actually afford
the price can actually go to it (Brady 4). Which therefore means that the government can't call a
university public if it not actually public (Brady 4). According to Brady Aaron," When the roads that

My College Education At The University Of Pittsburgh
When I started my college education at the University of Pittsburgh, like many freshman, I was
uncertain about which career direction I wanted to pursue. However, I did know one thing for
certain, that I had a passion for math and desired to study it at a higher level. I chose the major of
Actuarial Mathematics. Looking back at that decision I am happy that I spent my undergraduate
years taking difficult math classes, various economic and statistic classes, and computer
programming classes. This enabled me to see a different side of the applications of mathematics.
While this major was challenging, interesting, and enjoyable, I would like to use this knowledge to
become a leader in mathematics education focusing on the desire to ... Show more content on

Besides personal time management and study schedules being extremely important, I witnessed
first–hand how teachers have the ability to be the most excellent resource for success to students. In
high school the core math classes are mandatory, so I realize that not every student is going to find
the subject interesting or even want to do well. I want to be a teacher so that I can make whatever
class I am teaching a class that students enjoy, are excited about, and want to do well. I have
experience tutoring in math, both informal and formally. If I am helping a sibling, a friend, or
another student, I love that transitional moment when an individual goes from being completely lost
about a concept to understanding. There is even the rare moment when a student who professes to
detest math can get so caught up in the beauty and straightforwardness of it. I was tutoring a ninth
grader a couple months ago. When we first started going over problems the student mentioned that
she "hated this stuff" and had no interest in the problems at hand. By the time the bell went off to
signal the end of the class the student told me that she was upset she had to leave, and that she was
having a lot of fun. Watching the transition of that student in only forty–five minutes makes me
positive that this

Statement of the Problem
As an increasing number of non–native English–speaking post–secondary students enroll in United
States post–secondary institutions, research shows that faculty are not well–prepared to address their
academic writing errors. Based upon the background of the problem, non–TESOL trained native
post–secondary faculty lack both the knowledge and the sense of agency regarding assessment and
treatment of their non–native English–speaking students' academic writing errors. As such, non–
TESOL trained faculty may not even address errors when assessing typical NNES student academic
writing, potentially stunting the NNES students' academic writing progression (Haswell, 1998;
Janopoulos, 1992; Jenkins, Jordan, & Weiland, 1993). These faculty members may also overlook or
have an inconsistent view of NNES plagiarism consequences, or even viewed as a developmental
stage in NNES writing or that NNES writers have not been 'normed' to the academic standards of
the United States (Park, 2003; Keck, 2006; Ellery, 2008). Some faculty disagree over the penalty
that should be assigned to plagiarism, particularly when it comes to students who have not

My Education And Lehigh University
When reviewing the past few years of my life and looking ahead to my future goals, I realized that I
need to further my education and Lehigh University has an excellent program in order to achieve it.
As an undergraduate student, I studied the workings of government and the philosophy behind the
different views that have influenced history and continue up to this present moment. After receiving
my Bachelor of Arts, I moved to South Korea to teach in a private academy, and in that setting, I
realized just how vital it is to educate the younger generations and empower them to work within
their cultural settings. Thus, I have realized the need for properly trained educators that can pass on
their knowledge to the younger generation to contribute a positive change to the world, through

TESOL certification and looked for available openings abroad. This led me to South Korea, and I
left for a 13–month cultural adventure that matured me in many ways and further established my
desire to help children through education. Having returned to the United States at the end of 2014, I

Different Methods Of Assessment At University Education
Introduction
As an increasing number of students are studying at university level which has become a common
topic for discussion today. More and more researchers pay close attention to this as well as the forms
or methods of assessment. Universities across the globe have a variety of methods. Different
methods of assessment accomplish distinct aims, and students should be tested with different forms
of assessments according to their learning styles. This essay will discuss whether there should be
greater flexibility in forms or methods of assessment at university education.
The aims of education
Education is the most important and effective way to help individuals develop and socially progress.
People establish their own concept of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Education has provided people with equal opportunities to appreciate and understand this world
with their own thought, concerning the beauty of nature, and comprehension of past experiences,
which they can analyse and find a solution.
The aims of university education are to develop students' skills for learning and assist them to
immerse themselves deeply in society (Swain, 2011). Generally, people learn the basic problem–
solving skills in kindergarten, but due to the expectations of the future, such as having a better
quality of life, they intend to go to university to master life and job related skills. In the early stages
of university, students are expected to learn the professional knowledge in the field they study in,
and in the final year, university will give students opportunities to apply for the internship at popular
companies or organisations. Those work experiences will have beneficial effects on the students'
career development and help them to adapt to society easier after graduation.
Various forms or methods of assessment achieve different purpose
1. Traditional written assessments:
Most universities use traditional written assessments as methods to evaluate students' learning
outcomes, including open–book and closed–book final exams, essays and reports. Those methods
always help students gain speculative knowledge and practical skills which are necessary for them
to master and promote their writing ability. As an example, open–book and

A University Education is Necessary in American Society...
"There is no divide in American life that hurts more than the one between those we consider well
educated and those who are poorly or inadequately schooled" (Spayde 60). According to John
Spayde, author of "Learning in the Key of Life," a university education is a defining role in the
well–being and success of people in today's society. Similarly, John Henry Newman, in his essay,
"The Idea of a University," believes too that education gives "man the clear conscious view of his
own opinions and judgments, a truth in developing them, an eloquence in expressing them, and
force in urging them" (49), thus making him a well rounded human being. In fact, many people
today agree with the ideas of these two writers, that a university ... Show more content on

Similarly as Newman puts it "...that training of the intellect, which is best for the individual himself,
best enables him to discharge his duties to society" (48). It is clear that people's passion or love for
areas of their specializations can help them make positive contributions to society. So, both writers
stress the need to relate education to society.
Secondly, many people seek a higher university education to prepare themselves for a career. They
can spend thousands of dollars in education, hoping for higher standards of living and substantial
jobs to support their families. However, it is often difficult when many of those prime education
years are spent on useless courses as explained by Hart (127). The most effective education,
therefore, is to provide people with individual programs pertaining to their interests and careers.
This is to make sure that students make right choices of their areas and specilizations and careers,
because according to Goethe quoted in Spayde, "'people cannot learn what they do not love'" (62).
Another aspect of the benefits of a university education is the opportunity to mature and grow
spiritually. This idea is explored by Newman (1801–90), "a well–known Anglican priest who had
converted to the Roman church. . . he explains. . . how it might merge

Disadvantages Of Free University Education
Starting with the "FEES MUST FALL" movement in South Africa, the topic of free tertiary public
education has been a hot topic and has gained attention world–wide. With pressure from students,
government has agreed to keep tuition fees the same from 2015 to 2016, but the fight for the
banishment of fees is still ongoing. It is important however, to consider the other side of the coin
and explore the practicalities (or lack thereof) of this proposed plan. This essay will explore the
negative impacts that such a plan could have on the country and the difficulties this plan could have
upon implementation by comparing situations in countries that have similar plans in place.

how unrenewable this proposed idea is. The cost to continue funding universities would become too

California University Education: A Fading Dream Essay
Universities in California, especially UC Berkley and University of Southern California are ranked
so high in the nation that foreign students yearn to study in California in order to get more chances
to work in well–known companies such as Apple and Silicon Valley. The quality of schools and
education people can get decides how many chances and how many possibilities to be close to
success. According to Jennifer Medina, "During a 1960s renaissance, California's public university
system came to be seen as a model for the rest of the country and an economic engine for the state".

and convenient transfer, attracts an increasing rate of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to what Maxwell wrote, "Higher–education official note that students have endured
tuition increase and program cuts during other lean times" Universities have difficulties in providing
enough classes for students due to the shortage in professors so that choosing suitable classes
becomes increasingly tough. When most of the foreign students cannot attend the required classes,
they have to take useless classes in order to reach the requirement banned by immigration legislation
that foreign students have to take at least twelve units courses per semester. It is hard to believe that
a university can be helpful in education if students cannot take classes they need or want. Also,
fewer and fewer chances are provided for students to get into commendable universities since the
cut in budget for universities leads to the enrollment decrease of universities. "UC leaders likely will
follow in the fall 2004 with plans to freeze enrollment growth for freshmen, transfer students, and
graduate students. That decision would block entry for an estimated five thousand eligible students"
(Maxwell 208). Even though the California education system enables college students who did not
get an offer from UC after high schools transfer to UC as long as they are qualified by required
GPA, which is much easier way to get into their dream school, the budget cut makes universities
accept fewer transfer students so

But on the higher lever of education like university is really costly. So making it free would result in

With the significant disparity between the rich and the poor, many students especially those who are
from rural area can't go to university due to their family conditions , thus they may become a farmer
or join the cheap labor force in order to survive. Many talents are about to lose the opportunity to
change their situations for lack of further education. As a result, it's hard to change the current social
mobility. If the government develops a policy to make the university education free of charge,
people who cannot afford education fees can get university education. Since better education are
connected with better opportunities , these people will get better jobs, which may take them to a
higher social class and improve their social status, then social mobility will be promoted greatly.

Profit Education Is A Higher Education University
For profit education is a higher education university that is run and operated by private institutions
who receives a profit. In the beginning of 2015, Corinthian College, a large for profit incorporation,
was closed for lawsuits of fraudulent statistics of placement rates to jobs after graduating. Placement
rates are the jobs that students have received through their degrees, and Corinthian Colleges would
advertise the amount of graduates that have been hired in their field. The schools published around a
ninety percent placement rate, but in truth, it was a zero percent placement rate. This deception has
caused the federal government to step in and close the institutions. As a whole, Corinthian College's
actions set out a reputation for for Profit Colleges in America. For profit education was deemed as a
second chance for people who do not have their degree. They were "targeting so–called
'nontraditional students'–who are typically older, often have jobs, and don't necessarily go to school
full time" (Surowiecki). A majority of students who attended for profit schools, especially branches
of the Corinthian Colleges, fits under this category, and money is a big issue in the atmosphere. The
reason students attended Corinthian Colleges is to get their degree faster to have a better income at
home, and to find out that their education was a waste of money and time is devastating to some
families. In most cases, people ended up with thousands of dollars in federal loan debt

Funding Higher Education For Universities
Introduction In the world of higher education today, many universities are facing tight budgets.
Funding higher education has become a major issue for institutions across the nation for various
reasons. University endowments are not what they use to be before the financial crisis in 2008
(Weisbrod & Asch, 2010). State appropriations to universities are down and are not as much as they
once were in the past. With a decline in state appropriations, public institutions have been forced to
rely more on tuition revenue. Universities are now competing more than ever with each other to get
students to attend their institution so that they can receive their tuition revenue. As tuition increases,
there becomes an increase for a need of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Separately we are weak, but together we are strong. Ultimately, due to a plethora of reasons, higher
education funding has become difficult and resulted in higher tuition for students and to combat this
issue, university and business partnerships need to be created and become a major goal which will
yield benefits for both parties involved.
University Funding Issues Funding colleges and universities has become a crisis for the higher
education system in America. The higher education funding issue is not caused by one issue but
rather multiple issues like endowment losses, falling investments, declining donations, declining
state appropriations, and increased student financial aid which leads to a decreased tuition revenue
(Weisbrod & Asch, 2010). Some of these funding issues create other funding issues like an increase
in tuition revenue that creates an increase in student financial aid and then decreases the tuition
revenue resulting in lower funds for the institution. Since the economic downturn in 2007 and 2008
and even before then, there has been a decline in state appropriations to public colleges and
universities (Weisbrod & Asch, 2010). Colleges and universities believe that lawmakers have lost
faith and do not believe in them, which have resulted in the significant and constant loss of state
appropriations to higher education (Longanecker, 2006).

Financing of University Education in Kenya

education and evaluate the equity implications.
To answer this claim, we start by defining critical terms so as to clearly get the full meaning of this
assertion.
Education is the process act or process of impacting or acquiring general knowledge, developing the
powers of reasoning and judgement, and generally of preparing oneself or others intellectually for

this act mandates the central government to advance money to the public universities for running of
the programmes and activities. The government gives grants to the public universities and this
money is budgeted for, in the ministry for higher education budget and this is captured in the annual
budget. The grants are given to all universities oblivious of the programmes that they offer. The
government through the parliament passed a bill that saw the creation of the Constituency
Development Act that was aimed to rationalize development across the country by ensuring that all
areas across Kenya had a fair share of the money set aside for development. Through the various
committees established in each constituency, students in the universities are able to access bursaries
to aid them in paying school fees. This bursary is given to people who are needy and who cannot
afford tuition fees. For the equal distribution of the funds, the Kenyan government is giving a lot of
charters to the new mushrooming universities, this is to make sure all the regions in the country get
access to higher education hence equity implications. Higher Education Loans Board(H.E.L.B) is

The Development Of College And University Education
The development of college and university education in the U.S. has had several achievements.
Higher education in America started with the adoption of Western European traditions and patterns
of education in new institutions. Native American conditions shaped the development of these
transplanted institutions. These two factors, together with the growth of democracy in all aspects of
American life, have led to the creation of the modern, distinct system of higher education. "Higher
Education in Transition: A History of American Colleges and Universities" by Brubacher and Rudy.
This book is based on the history of the United States higher education, as well as accomplishments
and drawbacks. It was written at a time when U.S. colleges and universities confronted momentous
questions of new direction and growth. The book has accomplished its purpose: it has covered a
wide range of historical issues relating to university and college education. Essentially, the book
discusses some of the achievements of the American higher education sector from the colonial days
to the year 1997.
The book by Brubacher & Rudy (1997) was published at a time when the U.S universities and
colleges were facing important issues of new direction and growth. The book came timely to address
those concerns. It starts by discussing the nature of education during colonial times. The authors

The Value Of University Education Essay
On the Value of University Education
The nature of attaining a higher level of education has changed drastically since the end of WWII
with more than triple the percentage of the population attending at least some college. While
receiving advanced degree used to be an opportunity only for the rich or those going into a
specialized profession, it now has become an integral part of the American Dream. However,
historically such mass education was never the point of university, and the value of their teachings
was much more defined because of it. In the face of the changing nature of the economy and society
universities have struggled to find a value for university education. The answer colleges have found
is to make the modern purpose of education, not to provide training for any specific career or life
path, but to provide skills to help in life for the next 50–60 years across all arcs of life. This includes
basic responsibility, active education, independence, and interpersonal skills, and while career
training is still a part it has been replaced as the primary goal of a liberal education by these new
talents and necessities. (Historical background in the opening really ties in)
College is a time of transition for a majority of students who enter in a classical experience of 4
years of on–campus or near–campus living, with classes and life to balance. As such colleges do a
lot to promote the development of basic responsibility. Certainly more decisions and freedom is left

Christian Universities Vs Christian Education
Christian colleges and universities offer drastically different educational, social, and spiritual
benefits compared to public colleges and universities, and I believe the differences are in favour of
Christian higher education. A primary impact being that Christianity can be taught without backlash,
as well as the lack of atheistic and other non–Christian beliefs to interfere and challenge the
Christian beliefs already instilled in Christian students. Also, rather than having distinct clubs and
student led organizations dedicated to God and the Bible, God is the strongest focus in every sport,
club, organization, and classroom. I would like to acknowledge the views those in opposition to
attending a Christian university might offer as well as refute those views.
Moving on to the educational differences, I would like to start with the obvious: God is involved in
the education at Christian universities with a strong influence. Often, classes will begin with a
prayer. Professors tend to as God for guidance for the students as they listen and for themselves as
they teach, so that nothing heretical is said in the lesson, and so that the students can remain focused
and open to new ideas. I attended a public university for one semester, and in that semester, there
was barely any mention of God in a classroom, and there was definitely no prayer to open our hearts
and minds to what we were going to learn. Another benefit in the education at a Christian colleges is
how every lesson

High Education College Is Not Academically Challenging As...
Pursing a higher education tends to be a very common choice for most people today. When one
decides that they are going to attend college, there are a lot of decisions that he/she will need to
make. With that being said, there is also a lot to take into consideration. The first thing that a college
student needs to determine is whether they will be attending community college for the first two
years, or a university. Some important factors to consider when deciding to start at a community
college or a university are: the quality of the education, the likelihood to graduate with a bachelor's
degree, and the cost of tuition. To being with, the quality of education being offered is a very
important thing to consider. A common misconception is that community college is not as
academically challenging as a university. Contrary to what most people think, there is actually no
significant difference between the qualities of education at a community college versus a university.
As a matter of fact, community colleges usually offer courses comparable in academic rigor and
difficulty to those taught at four–year colleges and universities (collegeatlas.org). However, where
there is a significant difference is in the quality of the professors and classroom instruction. At a
community college, more emphasis is focused on classroom instruction, whereas at a university they
focus more on research. Therefore, many in academy now believe that the quality of instruction at
community

Personal Narrative: My Education At Bethel University
I do not have time to further my education at Bethel University right now. At least this is what seems
to be the problem that I am faced with today as a married father of four working a full time
engineering job. I live in a fast paced world with many demands that forces me to utilize my
mediocre time management skills to their fullest potential. Anne Harrington pointed out several key
elements in her article "Where There's a Will, There's a Way" that may help me manage my time and
my lifestyle in a more efficient manner (2012). There were also some pointers brought to my
attention in Unit 1 of the Bethel University Orientation to Online Learning program (Bethel
University, 2014).
I need to prioritize my activities throughout the day in order to achieve optimal results. It is best to
set aside some time each day, preferably at the same time and in the same place, to work on my
coursework (Bethel University, 2014). It's recommended that we dedicate 8–10 hours a week for our
online studies (Bethel University, 2014). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

me to gain a positive attitude (Harrington, 2012). Positive people that believe in themselves usually

2012).
The fact of the matter is, right now is the absolute best time to continue my educational journey at
Bethel. I cannot afford to put my education off any longer. The demands of raising a family today is
exactly what motivates me to continue on this journey. I want to be the positive role model for my

The Universities Of Higher Education
The U.S institutions of higher education around the world have many different and unique ways of
educating their students. The students inside these classrooms often apply techniques used by peers
to better help their understanding of the world around them. Students should ultimately be more
enlightened when they finish at a college or university then when they started. These skills that they
learn at higher education places should leave these people educated to their fullest potential when
they leave, and should leave them with certain skills and abilities that all educated people should
posses. Professors, along with universities, should be able to persuade or change a student's core
beliefs by intriguingly adding insight to ones life and ultimately making them more educated. There
are certain skills and abilities that every educated person should posses after college. The first
attribute, would be listening and hearing what others have to say on certain subjects, which seems
simple but is a crucial step. Educated people work hard to hear what others have to say. If a person
hears what you have to say, and gives you specific feedback that you may not have otherwise heard,
had you not been open to listening, then this in part allows you to become more educated. If a
person feels like others are listening to him/her it will give that person a sense that what she/he is
saying is noteworthy, which will encourage the person to continue to talk to others and

Education And Study At Universities
There are many reasons why people decide to continue their education and study at Universities. It
may be for enjoyment, for learning a new skill, for networking, or for career advancement, etc.
However, for most people, education is an investment for the future, and is considered as a gateway
to obtaining higher earnings in the future either via the job market or self–employment. It's
commonly believed that the higher the qualification you get, the higher the chance you would get a
well–paid job. However, what about for entrepreneurs? People who don't want to work in a steady
paid job, but who wants to be their own boss. Do entrepreneurs need to study for a University
degree? Would, in the course of studying a degree, increase the chance of becoming a successful
entrepreneur? Does higher education teach the necessary skills to help people be successful in
running a business? Thus, lead to my research topic. I would like to investigate whether successful
entrepreneurs obtained their necessary skills whilst studying at University.
To begin with, how do we define "a successful entrepreneur"? The Cambridge Dictionary defines
successful as "achieving the results wanted or hope for/ having achieved a lot, become popular, and/
or made a lot of money" [Cambridge Dictionaries Online, 2014], and the definition of an
entrepreneur is "someone who starts their own business, especially when this involves seeing a new
opportunity" [Cambridge Dictionaries Online, 2014].

My Interview With A University Education
For my faculty interview, I interviewed Dr. Adem, my chemistry professor. I interviewed Dr. Adem
because he teaches my chemistry lecture, lab, and recitation, which I like his teaching methods and
class. Since, I he teaches so many of my classes and I like how he teaches, I thought it would be
good to get to know him better. I found Dr. Adem to care for the success of students and for his
success as a teacher. For my interview with Dr. Adem, three questions that were asked were
provided to me. The first questions was why do you value a university education? Dr. Adem replied
that he values a university education because "he went to a university and his parents never went, so
they provided him the opportunity for a better life." He says that he would not be where he is,
without it. This implies that to him a university education may not have been expectation like it is in
America for many of us. This may have caused him to value it more than some people do, but his
reasoning is accurate for everyone. Without a university education many people could not be where
they are today, they would not be as successful without. The value of a university education is more
than just a degree, it is the learning of life skills. With the university in mind, the next two provided
questions asked if a higher education was a right or privilege and if it is a public good or private
benefit. The response wat that it should be a right, although it sometimes not. Everyone should be
provided

Higher Education Case Study: Weston University
Weston University
Case Summary The new president of Weston University, Dr. Diana Ball, took over in late 1995,
succeeding Dr. Harold Powers. Dr. Powers led the prestigious private university for fifteen years
from a human resource frame to tailor the organization to individuals (Bolman & Deal, 2013, p. 16).
Moreover, during Dr. Power's tenure, the reputation of once–leading private university in the
Midwest diminished. Dr. Power's reputation as a scholar gained him the presidency; however, his
leadership abilities fell short in dealing with the faculty. Weston's board outlined the skills needed,
which included both academic standing and business acumen, for their new president to restore

The faculty is entrenched in their ways, and change causes ambiguity and uncertainty. Moreover, the
faculty in the organization feel uncertain about the new concepts presented by Dr. Ball to the deans
altering their salaries and evaluations (Bolman & Deal, 2013, p. 31). The proposed changes create
competition and unrest among the faculty and will shatter the business–as–usual campus conduct
and job security. The dean's and faculty are grasping at the symbolic frame, defending their beloved
academic lifestyle (Bolman & Deal, 2013, p. 248). The secondary problem in this case is support
from the deans of the incentive program that will restore Weston University prestigious reputation as
set by the board and developed by the president.
Stakeholders
The stakeholders involved are the board of Weston, new president, deans and faculty. The board's
stake in the new president is by taking a risk on her ability to achieve the goal of rebuilding Weston's
reputation. Next, Dr. Ball's confidence lies within the board, and rejecting her incentive program
will endanger her leadership status. Dr. Ball's stakes are high using the Kotter's change strategy is
risky, sticking to the process and refusing to quit (Bolman & Deal, 2013, p. 390). Furthermore, if the
incentive program is rejected, Dr. Ball will lose her creditability before the deans and faculty and her
ability to lead the college. The deans and faculty risk losing their beloved way of academic life and
job security.

Newfield University Education Summary

  • 1. Newfield University Education Summary Overall, Newfield's perspective on the university's transformative possibilities is that the university is the "institution where blue– and white–collar, children of both workers and managers, citizens of every racial background were being invited into a unified majority" (4). This majority would be economically and intellectually prepared for the "New Economy." Newfield believes that conservatives were opposed to this change in the status quo and because of that started the culture wars. He continues that "the culture wars have coincided with the majority's economic decline by reducing the public importance and economic claims of the American university and its graduates" (6). Thus, the attacks on the public research university university ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Especially in such a culturally diverse country as the United States, the College of Education has a very diverse student body and as students transition into becoming teachers having gained skills with diversity issues will help greatly in dealing with diversity in the classroom. Along with dealing with diversity future teachers will have to collaborate and communicate effectively with fellow teachers and administration at the school. Participating in collaborative activities will prepare students for being effective communicators in the classroom. Learning new technologies will greatly benefit future teachers with effective communication tools in the classroom and the workplace. • 7. What Do You Value A University Education? I chose to interview professor Bayless because he seems like a down to earth guy. He seemed like he would be easy an interesting to talk to. The questions I asked professor Bayless were: do you value a University education, why did you decide to become a biology professor, how long have you been at Washburn and what made you want to come here, do you believe students should get involved in campus activities and clubs, do you think living on campus your first year is beneficial, and what do you think is important to help make you successful in college? Professor Bayless does value a University education for most people, not everyone. He thinks a university education makes a better citizen and is likely to have a positive influence on society. He doesn 't think you have to be educated to be a good person, it just helps. I agree with professor Bayless 100%. An education does not shape you into the person you are, but definitely helps make you a positive influence and a better person. I believe everyone should at least try a University education. You don 't know if it's not for you until you try it. Now a days to get a job you need some type of degree and if on your resume you have a 4 year degree you are at the top of the list. What surprised me the most about professor Bayless was that he never planned to teach. He took his first job as a teacher just for the income. He had always wanted to do research, mostly on plants, and never saw himself teaching his whole life. He ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. The Purpose Of University Education The purpose of university education is not only to gain more knowledge for future careers, but to educate people from becoming illiterate. University education was first established in 1636 by John Harvard. His first purpose was to train students to becoming Christian ministers, which resulted into a prestigious school for students to attend. Harvard University, located in Cambridge, Massachusetts was primarily a puritan college because of the era of strict religious beliefs in society. Students that attended Harvard were very wealthy because of the high costs that was in demand to receive a higher education at a private university. As years past, students were not able to continue their education after high school because they did not have the money to attend a private university, so the idea of a public university would be established in 1795. The University of North Carolina was the first public university that gave people who were not rich an opportunity to receive a higher education, and democratize education for everyone. This university located in Chapel Hill, North Carolina was established by William Richardson Davie. As more universities were being developed, a new system of higher education would be introduced in 1901. The first public community college was Joliet Junior College. Founded under Superintendent J. Stanley Brown and William Rainey Harper, President of the University of Chicago. This new system of higher education gave more people the opportunity to go ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first five hours starts with the INTASC Standards 10. The INTASTC Standard 10 states that the teacher seeks appropriate leadership roles and opportunities to take responsibility for student learning, to collaborate with learners, families, colleagues, other school professionals, and community members to ensure learner growth, and to advance the profession. The Interstate Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium is an association of state education agencies and national educational organizations dedicated to the improvement of the preparation, licensing, and on–going professional development of educators. An effective educator must be able to mix content knowledge with the specific assets and desires of students to guarantee that all students absorb and achieve at high levels. We were assigned to interview a counselor, social worker, school psychologist, school nurse, or special education teacher regarding their experiences in working with at risk child and youth. I chose to interview a social worker because a social worker job is to shield vulnerable people, develop relationships and where possible help families to stay together while sticking to these guidelines. They also support people to enable them to live a happy life as possible. Social workers work as part of multi–disciplinary teams with other professions such as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Pursuing A Higher Education At A University Or Other... For many individuals preparing to graduate from high school, the choice between pursuing a higher education, joining the military, or jumping straight into the work force comes into play. Depending on the person's goals and mindset, the choice between the three may be difficult. While these are all different options, choosing to follow into a higher education at a university or other institute can play a key role in a successful career for the future. The downfall of continuing with any sort of higher education lies heavily on the various prices that come along with the schooling such as tuition, room and board, books, and the cost of each individual class. These excessive fees prevent a number of people from seeking to further their schooling. If there were a way to provide education at a more reasonable price, allowing more people able to afford it, then the rate of college applicants would increase thus giving more individuals the chance to excel in their career choices and live a more successful life. A college education can help provide a person with a substantial amount of positive qualities including financial security, various skill sets, and the ability to build a remarkable reputation. Although it's not impossible to acquire a job without further education, it increases an individual's chances at finding a prominent career along with a wider range of intelligence. College also provides the chance to become involved in new social scenes and to form relations ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many middle class and under class people cannot afford such costs. It is true that the government will give you grants but most of the time students never get funding from them (Emmons 3). Most people of today can hardly afford a car let alone the fees and tuition of college. Also, it could provide equality to all people. Allowing everyone an equal opportunity to go to college and make something of themselves. It provides a way for poorer families to break free from their social strata that they have been put into ("This House Believes University Education Should Be Free" 4). This is why it is important to make university education free.In the end citizens of the US would benefit from university free education. Instead, citizens should be paid to go to college because they are going there to better themselves as citizens of the United States. Making new experiences for each individual is important. No one will enjoy the experience if they have crushing debts to worry about. Education should be out there to inspire peoples mind and not just filling their head with others perspective. Every individual has the right to learn and be educated, and have the opportunity to view this world in a different perspective and do something on their own. But the cost of education is so unaffordable to some mankinds that it is just ferocious for them to even consider paying those education bills off" ("Should Higher Free Education Should Be Offered to All for Free?" 4). If students were not stressed out over the cost, they could then focus they're stress on leaning and getting educated. A student should only have to worry about exceling him or herself to their best ability without worrying about the price they have to pay to get their education. A public university is supposed to be meant for everybody but only those who can actually afford the price can actually go to it (Brady 4). • 23. My College Education At The University Of Pittsburgh When I started my college education at the University of Pittsburgh, like many freshman, I was uncertain about which career direction I wanted to pursue. However, I did know one thing for certain, that I had a passion for math and desired to study it at a higher level. I chose the major of Actuarial Mathematics. Looking back at that decision I am happy that I spent my undergraduate years taking difficult math classes, various economic and statistic classes, and computer programming classes. This enabled me to see a different side of the applications of mathematics. While this major was challenging, interesting, and enjoyable, I would like to use this knowledge to become a leader in mathematics education focusing on the desire to ... In high school the core math classes are mandatory, so I realize that not every student is going to find the subject interesting or even want to do well. I want to be a teacher so that I can make whatever class I am teaching a class that students enjoy, are excited about, and want to do well. I have experience tutoring in math, both informal and formally. If I am helping a sibling, a friend, or another student, I love that transitional moment when an individual goes from being completely lost about a concept to understanding. There is even the rare moment when a student who professes to detest math can get so caught up in the beauty and straightforwardness of it. I was tutoring a ninth grader a couple months ago. When we first started going over problems the student mentioned that she "hated this stuff" and had no interest in the problems at hand. By the time the bell went off to signal the end of the class the student told me that she was upset she had to leave, and that she was having a lot of fun. The Importance Of Education In Post-University Students proficiency issue because these communities vary and each discipline has its own standards and traditions (Angelova & Riazansteva, 1998). As NNES students come from all over the world, their relationship with texts, data, and information sources vary due to each individual student's influence circle, type of media they have (or have not) been exposed to, and the culture and history of their country (Fox, 1994). Typical solutions to this issue, according to Badenhorst, Moloney, Rosales, Dyer, and Ru (2015), have been to require students to enroll in add–on classes in academic writing or speaking, or to direct them to workshops to help improve their linguistic proficiency. As such, non– TESOL trained faculty may not even address errors when assessing typical NNES student academic writing, potentially stunting the NNES students' academic writing progression (Haswell, 1998; Janopoulos, 1992; Jenkins, Jordan, & Weiland, 1993). These faculty members may also overlook or have an inconsistent view of NNES plagiarism consequences, or even viewed as a developmental stage in NNES writing or that NNES writers have not been 'normed' to the academic standards of the United States (Park, 2003; Keck, 2006; Ellery, 2008). My Education And Lehigh University When reviewing the past few years of my life and looking ahead to my future goals, I realized that I need to further my education and Lehigh University has an excellent program in order to achieve it. As an undergraduate student, I studied the workings of government and the philosophy behind the different views that have influenced history and continue up to this present moment. After receiving my Bachelor of Arts, I moved to South Korea to teach in a private academy, and in that setting, I realized just how vital it is to educate the younger generations and empower them to work within their cultural settings. Thus, I have realized the need for properly trained educators that can pass on their knowledge to the younger generation to contribute a positive change to the world, through experience, encouragement, and The first thing that I would like to accomplish is to share my experience while further growing my expertise. After finishing my degree, I decided that I needed to live within another culture. I knew it would be a good experience for me. I have always had an interest in teaching, so I received my TESOL certification and looked for available openings abroad. This led me to South Korea, and I left for a 13–month cultural adventure that matured me in many ways and further established my desire to help children through education. Education has provided people with equal opportunities to appreciate and understand this world with their own thought, concerning the beauty of nature, and comprehension of past experiences, which they can analyse and find a solution. The aims of university education are to develop students' skills for learning and assist them to immerse themselves deeply in society (Swain, 2011). Generally, people learn the basic problem– solving skills in kindergarten, but due to the expectations of the future, such as having a better quality of life, they intend to go to university to master life and job related skills. In the early stages of university, students are expected to learn the professional knowledge in the field they study in, and in the final year, university will give students opportunities to apply for the internship at popular companies or organisations. Those work experiences will have beneficial effects on the students' career development and help them to adapt to society easier after graduation. Various forms or methods of assessment achieve different purpose 1. Traditional written assessments: Most universities use traditional written assessments as methods to evaluate students' learning outcomes, including open–book and closed–book final exams, essays and reports. Those methods always help students gain speculative knowledge and practical skills which are necessary for them to master and promote their writing ability. As an example, open–book and ... • 31. A University Education is Necessary in American Society... "There is no divide in American life that hurts more than the one between those we consider well educated and those who are poorly or inadequately schooled" (Spayde 60). According to John Spayde, author of "Learning in the Key of Life," a university education is a defining role in the well–being and success of people in today's society. Similarly, John Henry Newman, in his essay, "The Idea of a University," believes too that education gives "man the clear conscious view of his own opinions and judgments, a truth in developing them, an eloquence in expressing them, and force in urging them" (49), thus making him a well rounded human being. In fact, many people today agree with the ideas of these two writers, that a university ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Similarly as Newman puts it "...that training of the intellect, which is best for the individual himself, best enables him to discharge his duties to society" (48). It is clear that people's passion or love for areas of their specializations can help them make positive contributions to society. So, both writers stress the need to relate education to society. Secondly, many people seek a higher university education to prepare themselves for a career. They can spend thousands of dollars in education, hoping for higher standards of living and substantial jobs to support their families. However, it is often difficult when many of those prime education years are spent on useless courses as explained by Hart (127). The most effective education, therefore, is to provide people with individual programs pertaining to their interests and careers. This is to make sure that students make right choices of their areas and specilizations and careers, because according to Goethe quoted in Spayde, "'people cannot learn what they do not love'" (62). Another aspect of the benefits of a university education is the opportunity to mature and grow spiritually. This idea is explored by Newman (1801–90), "a well–known Anglican priest who had converted to the Roman church. . . he explains. . . how it might merge ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to what Maxwell wrote, "Higher–education official note that students have endured tuition increase and program cuts during other lean times" Universities have difficulties in providing enough classes for students due to the shortage in professors so that choosing suitable classes becomes increasingly tough. When most of the foreign students cannot attend the required classes, they have to take useless classes in order to reach the requirement banned by immigration legislation that foreign students have to take at least twelve units courses per semester. It is hard to believe that a university can be helpful in education if students cannot take classes they need or want. Also, fewer and fewer chances are provided for students to get into commendable universities since the cut in budget for universities leads to the enrollment decrease of universities. "UC leaders likely will follow in the fall 2004 with plans to freeze enrollment growth for freshmen, transfer students, and graduate students. That decision would block entry for an estimated five thousand eligible students" (Maxwell 208). Even though the California education system enables college students who did not get an offer from UC after high schools transfer to UC as long as they are qualified by required GPA, which is much easier way to get into their dream school, the budget cut makes universities accept fewer transfer students so ... In the beginning of 2015, Corinthian College, a large for profit incorporation, was closed for lawsuits of fraudulent statistics of placement rates to jobs after graduating. Placement rates are the jobs that students have received through their degrees, and Corinthian Colleges would advertise the amount of graduates that have been hired in their field. University Funding Issues Funding colleges and universities has become a crisis for the higher education system in America. The higher education funding issue is not caused by one issue but rather multiple issues like endowment losses, falling investments, declining donations, declining state appropriations, and increased student financial aid which leads to a decreased tuition revenue (Weisbrod & Asch, 2010). Some of these funding issues create other funding issues like an increase in tuition revenue that creates an increase in student financial aid and then decreases the tuition revenue resulting in lower funds for the institution. Since the economic downturn in 2007 and 2008 and even before then, there has been a decline in state appropriations to public colleges and universities (Weisbrod & Asch, 2010). • 61. The Value Of University Education Essay On the Value of University Education The nature of attaining a higher level of education has changed drastically since the end of WWII with more than triple the percentage of the population attending at least some college. While receiving advanced degree used to be an opportunity only for the rich or those going into a specialized profession, it now has become an integral part of the American Dream. However, historically such mass education was never the point of university, and the value of their teachings was much more defined because of it. In the face of the changing nature of the economy and society universities have struggled to find a value for university education. The answer colleges have found is to make the modern purpose of education, not to provide training for any specific career or life path, but to provide skills to help in life for the next 50–60 years across all arcs of life. This includes basic responsibility, active education, independence, and interpersonal skills, and while career training is still a part it has been replaced as the primary goal of a liberal education by these new talents and necessities. (Historical background in the opening really ties in) College is a time of transition for a majority of students who enter in a classical experience of 4 years of on–campus or near–campus living, with classes and life to balance. • 63. Christian Universities Vs Christian Education Christian colleges and universities offer drastically different educational, social, and spiritual benefits compared to public colleges and universities, and I believe the differences are in favour of Christian higher education. A primary impact being that Christianity can be taught without backlash, as well as the lack of atheistic and other non–Christian beliefs to interfere and challenge the Christian beliefs already instilled in Christian students. Also, rather than having distinct clubs and student led organizations dedicated to God and the Bible, God is the strongest focus in every sport, club, organization, and classroom. I would like to acknowledge the views those in opposition to attending a Christian university might offer as well as refute those views. Moving on to the educational differences, I would like to start with the obvious: God is involved in the education at Christian universities with a strong influence. Often, classes will begin with a prayer. Professors tend to as God for guidance for the students as they listen and for themselves as they teach, so that nothing heretical is said in the lesson, and so that the students can remain focused and open to new ideas. I attended a public university for one semester, and in that semester, there was barely any mention of God in a classroom, and there was definitely no prayer to open our hearts and minds to what we were going to learn. When one decides that they are going to attend college, there are a lot of decisions that he/she will need to make. With that being said, there is also a lot to take into consideration. The first thing that a college student needs to determine is whether they will be attending community college for the first two years, or a university. Some important factors to consider when deciding to start at a community college or a university are: the quality of the education, the likelihood to graduate with a bachelor's degree, and the cost of tuition. To being with, the quality of education being offered is a very important thing to consider. A common misconception is that community college is not as academically challenging as a university. Contrary to what most people think, there is actually no significant difference between the qualities of education at a community college versus a university. As a matter of fact, community colleges usually offer courses comparable in academic rigor and difficulty to those taught at four–year colleges and universities (collegeatlas.org). However, where there is a significant difference is in the quality of the professors and classroom instruction. • 69. Personal Narrative: My Education At Bethel University I do not have time to further my education at Bethel University right now. At least this is what seems to be the problem that I am faced with today as a married father of four working a full time engineering job. I live in a fast paced world with many demands that forces me to utilize my mediocre time management skills to their fullest potential. Anne Harrington pointed out several key elements in her article "Where There's a Will, There's a Way" that may help me manage my time and my lifestyle in a more efficient manner (2012). There were also some pointers brought to my attention in Unit 1 of the Bethel University Orientation to Online Learning program (Bethel University, 2014). I need to prioritize my activities throughout the day in order to achieve optimal results. It is best to set aside some time each day, preferably at the same time and in the same place, to work on my coursework (Bethel University, 2014). It's recommended that we dedicate 8–10 hours a week for our online studies (Bethel University, 2014). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Being organized can boost my problem–solving skills which can help my confidence level and help me to gain a positive attitude (Harrington, 2012). Positive people that believe in themselves usually fair better at most things they take on including a time consuming online education (Harrington, 2012). The fact of the matter is, right now is the absolute best time to continue my educational journey at Bethel. I cannot afford to put my education off any longer. The demands of raising a family today is exactly what motivates me to continue on this journey. I want to be the positive role model for my family and be able to lay the groundwork for their futures. By doing so, I feel like I can help them to alleviate some of problems they may encounter in their daily ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 71. The Universities Of Higher Education The U.S institutions of higher education around the world have many different and unique ways of educating their students. The students inside these classrooms often apply techniques used by peers to better help their understanding of the world around them. Students should ultimately be more enlightened when they finish at a college or university then when they started. These skills that they learn at higher education places should leave these people educated to their fullest potential when they leave, and should leave them with certain skills and abilities that all educated people should posses. Professors, along with universities, should be able to persuade or change a student's core beliefs by intriguingly adding insight to ones life and ultimately making them more educated. There are certain skills and abilities that every educated person should posses after college. The first attribute, would be listening and hearing what others have to say on certain subjects, which seems simple but is a crucial step. Educated people work hard to hear what others have to say. If a person hears what you have to say, and gives you specific feedback that you may not have otherwise heard, had you not been open to listening, then this in part allows you to become more educated. If a person feels like others are listening to him/her it will give that person a sense that what she/he is saying is noteworthy, which will encourage the person to continue to talk to others and ... • 73. Education And Study At Universities There are many reasons why people decide to continue their education and study at Universities. It may be for enjoyment, for learning a new skill, for networking, or for career advancement, etc. However, for most people, education is an investment for the future, and is considered as a gateway to obtaining higher earnings in the future either via the job market or self–employment. It's commonly believed that the higher the qualification you get, the higher the chance you would get a well–paid job. However, what about for entrepreneurs? People who don't want to work in a steady paid job, but who wants to be their own boss. Do entrepreneurs need to study for a University degree? Would, in the course of studying a degree, increase the chance of becoming a successful entrepreneur? Does higher education teach the necessary skills to help people be successful in running a business? Thus, lead to my research topic. I would like to investigate whether successful entrepreneurs obtained their necessary skills whilst studying at University. To begin with, how do we define "a successful entrepreneur"? The Cambridge Dictionary defines successful as "achieving the results wanted or hope for/ having achieved a lot, become popular, and/ or made a lot of money" [Cambridge Dictionaries Online, 2014], and the definition of an entrepreneur is "someone who starts their own business, especially when this involves seeing a new opportunity" [Cambridge Dictionaries Online, 2014]. ... • 75. My Interview With A University Education For my faculty interview, I interviewed Dr. Adem, my chemistry professor. I interviewed Dr. Adem because he teaches my chemistry lecture, lab, and recitation, which I like his teaching methods and class. Since, I he teaches so many of my classes and I like how he teaches, I thought it would be good to get to know him better. I found Dr. Adem to care for the success of students and for his success as a teacher. For my interview with Dr. Adem, three questions that were asked were provided to me. The first questions was why do you value a university education? Dr. Adem replied that he values a university education because "he went to a university and his parents never went, so they provided him the opportunity for a better life." He says that he would not be where he is, without it. This implies that to him a university education may not have been expectation like it is in America for many of us. This may have caused him to value it more than some people do, but his reasoning is accurate for everyone. Without a university education many people could not be where they are today, they would not be as successful without. The value of a university education is more than just a degree, it is the learning of life skills. With the university in mind, the next two provided questions asked if a higher education was a right or privilege and if it is a public good or private benefit. The response wat that it should be a right, although it sometimes not. Everyone should be provided ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 77. Higher Education Case Study: Weston University Weston University Case Summary The new president of Weston University, Dr. Diana Ball, took over in late 1995, succeeding Dr. Harold Powers. Dr. Powers led the prestigious private university for fifteen years from a human resource frame to tailor the organization to individuals (Bolman & Deal, 2013, p. 16). Moreover, during Dr. Power's tenure, the reputation of once–leading private university in the Midwest diminished. Dr. Power's reputation as a scholar gained him the presidency; however, his leadership abilities fell short in dealing with the faculty. Weston's board outlined the skills needed, which included both academic standing and business acumen, for their new president to restore Weston University's reputation and lead the ... Moreover, the faculty in the organization feel uncertain about the new concepts presented by Dr. Ball to the deans altering their salaries and evaluations (Bolman & Deal, 2013, p. 31). The proposed changes create competition and unrest among the faculty and will shatter the business–as–usual campus conduct and job security. The dean's and faculty are grasping at the symbolic frame, defending their beloved academic lifestyle (Bolman & Deal, 2013, p. 248). The secondary problem in this case is support from the deans of the incentive program that will restore Weston University prestigious reputation as set by the board and developed by the president. Stakeholders The stakeholders involved are the board of Weston, new president, deans and faculty. The board's stake in the new president is by taking a risk on her ability to achieve the goal of rebuilding Weston's reputation. Next, Dr. Ball's confidence lies within the board, and rejecting her incentive program will endanger her leadership status. Dr. Ball's stakes are high using the Kotter's change strategy is risky, sticking to the process and refusing to quit (Bolman & Deal, 2013, p. 390). Furthermore, if the incentive program is rejected, Dr. Ball will lose her creditability before the deans and faculty and her ability to lead the college. The deans and faculty risk losing their beloved way of academic life and job security. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
