Bandaging & Neurovascular Assessment

2. • Bandages and dressings are both used in
wound management.
• A bandage is a piece of cloth or other
material used to bind or wrap a diseased
or injured part of the body.

3. PURPOSE
• APPLYING PRESSURE TO BLEEDING WOUND
• COVERING WOUND & BURN
• IMMOBILIZED BROKEN BONE, SPRAIN OR
STRAIN
• SECURE DRESSING
• RETAIN SPLINT IN PLACE
• HELP PREVENT OR REDUCE SWELLING

6. PRE PERFORMANCE
• Explain to patient regarding procedure.
• Prepare equipments :
Bandage
Micropore
Scissor
• Inspect skin condition for any wound, oozing
or swelling

7. PERFORMANCE PHASE
• Elevate and support part to be bandaged.
• Place joint in slightly flexed neutral position.
• Wrap from distal to proximal direction of a
body.

8. PERFORMANCE PHASE
• Hold the free hand of the roll on the parts to
be bandaged with hand hand, while the other
hand passes the roll around the part twice
from within outwards.
• With equal tension, continue overlapping ½ or
2/3 of the width of the roller bandage.

9. PERFORMANCE PHASE
• Fold in about 2 inches of the end of the
bandage inward before securing with
micropore.

10. POST PERFORMANCE
• Comfort patient.
• Check for bandage tightness.
• Check peripheral circulation.
• Elevate bandaged part.
• Advise patient not to wet or soil bandage.
