8. • Wear disposable gloves (if available), before handling
any dressing other than a plaster.
• Use a dressing, large enough to cover the wound and
extend beyond the wound’s edge.
• Keep your fingers away from the area that will be in
contact with the wound. Hold the dressings at the
edges.
• Directly place the dressing on top of the wound.
9. • Remove or replace any dress that slips out of position
• Apply a second dressing if blood seeps through the
first dressing. If it continues to seeps through the
second dressing, then remove both dressing
completely and apply a fresh dressing over the
bleeding point.
• After treating the wound, dispose all used dressings,
soiled items and gloves in a plastic bag.

11. • Reassure the victim and explain clearly what
you are going to do.
• Make the position of the victim comfortable
whether sitting or lying.

body’s natural hollows such as the ankles, knees, waist
and neck.
• Apply bandages firmly but not too tight.
• Leave the fingers/toes of a bandaged limb exposed.
• Use square knots to tie the bandages.
• Check circulation regularly.
