In thriller films the costumes vary quite a lot. They go from dark and plain, to
light and patterned. The bad characters normally wear the dark plain clothes.
They normally wear a plain T-shirt or plain jacket, with plain dark trousers
normally jeans or black trousers. However the bad characters don’t always
wear dark clothes, for example a crazy doctor would wear a white lab coat.
Also bad characters can also wear suits to show wealth or cleverness, but the
suit is normally still dark. However the reason the bad characters normally
wear dark clothing because it shows a cognitive message about their
personality.
The good guy in thriller films normally wear normal clothing to help them
blend in and not seem out of the ordinary. Then also wear light clothing so the
cognitive message shows they don’t have a dark side to them. They also may
have patterns or logos on their clothes unlike the bad characters. This is
because it helps the audience judge their character straight away.
