Narrative vs. Descriptive Writing
A narrative essay uses a point of view to tell a story. It is an engaging way for an author to tell his
reader about an experience they have had or a personal story. Descriptive writing is a description of
something. It could be a person, place, thing, emotion or experience. The author is allowed more
artistic freedom when writing in descriptive form. While both descriptive and narrative essays are
similar in many ways, the descriptive essays use of language fully immerses the reader into the story
and allows the reader to feel the intended emotion. Descriptive writing is painting a vivid image.

It is very important for a narrative essay to follow a sequence of events. In the narrative essay This
Old House, the author followed a clear chronological order. Sedaris told a story that included all of
the typical components such as an introduction, and worked its way through all of the events,
introducing you to the characters and setting the stage along the way. Our book explains "As you
learned earlier, plot is the order, or sequence, of events that unfold in your story. It is crucial that you
organize these events so that, by the end of the story, they make sense to the reader and build up to a
crucial moment in the narrative. (Connell & Sole, 2013). Sedaris did an excellent job of guiding the
reader through the story. In contrast, descriptive writing does not necessarily follow a timeline or
story pattern. Descriptive style must use another form of organization. A descriptive essay may for
example separate paragraphs by the particular details being described. The author may devote an
entire paragraph to a sense, emotion or object. Amy Tan devoted one paragraph to describe her angst
and dismay "When I found out that my parents had invited the minister's family over for Christmas
Eve dinner, I cried. What would Robert think of our shabby Chinese Christmas? What would he
think of our noisy Chinese relatives who lacked proper American manners? What terrible

Critical Analysis Of Killing The Bear By Judith Minty
The Analysis of Killing the Bear by Judith Minty Based on Reader Response Criticism The
important thing in the reader response theory is the interpretive of the readers itself, rather than the
author or even the text. The theory gives the competence to the reader to critic the text, however
with the condition the readers have the evidence or research from other people toward the critic. The
way of their interpretation may reveal their identity, because the reader gives the critic depends on
their knowledge and experience (Philip Goldstein, 2005). Everyone has their own perspective
toward anything, especially for the literary works. Each of people perspective is unique. That is why
reader response was created. The theory is about the transaction between the writer and the reader.
The writer composed a meaningful text, whereas the reader composed an interpreted meaning of the
text. Reader response is not about destroying the writer's idea, but it is more constructing the work
itself (Louise M. Rosenblatt, 1988). The theory usually used for the basic of the analysis. ... Show

Interpretive Theory Compared to Objective Theory

Interpretative and Objective Theory
Introduction Understanding the differences and similarities of interpretive and objective theory
approaches is key to further expand one's knowledge of communication studies. Author of A First
Look at Communication Theory Em Griffin, describes interpretive theories as "the linguistic work
of assigning meaning or value to communicative texts; assumes that multiple meanings or truths are
possible" (Griffin, p.15). He also defines objective theory as "the assumption that truth is singular
and is accessible through unbiased sensory observation; committed to uncovering cause–and–effect

Standard 4 creates a community of agreement, meaning that interpretive theory must be supported
by other scholars, and must also become the subject of widespread analysis. Standard 5 is the reform
of society, and critical interpreters are reformers who can have an impact of society and generate
change. The last standard is Standard 6, and states that interpretive research must contain qualitative
research; interpretive scholars use words to support their theories by the use of textual analysis and
ethnography.
So as you can see, both theories contain specific characteristics that set them apart as two different
approaches to better understand communication. It is key to remember that objective uses
quantitative research, while interpretive uses qualitative research because if you can understand
what the two different types of research are, you can easily remember all of the other standards
because of what the research styles are made up of.
Theoretical Orientation There are two different types of orientations that a theory can be, objective,
which uses quantitative data and believes in singular truths, and there is interpretive, which uses
qualitative data and believes in multiple meanings and truths. Different types of studies can fall
under each of the two approaches, and will be seen further into the course as specific studies and
theories are mentioned and examined. Some studies could be concluded as

How does Von Drehle's examination of this 1911 tragedy in New York City shed light on many of
the major political, economic, and social developments and changes that occurred in both the city
and the United States during the first decades of the twentieth century? Be sure to support your
generalizations with specific evidence and examples.

Consider the difference between the declarations that "the North won the Civil War" and "the North
used its greater population and industrial might to defeat the Confederacy." Or, alternately, consider
the difference between the following statements: "The South lost the Civil War" and "Ultimately, the
South failed to muster the manpower, resources, and popular will necessary to win the war against
the Union." You are encouraged to review the guide to writing a history essay and sample essays

In general, an excellent essay will have an insightful, important, and clear thesis which responds
directly to the question(s) posed in the essay prompt and is supported by well–organized evidence.
A good essay will have a reasonably clear if not overwhelmingly brilliant thesis that is responsive to
the question(s) and is supported by a fair amount of evidence.
An average essay has either a flawed thesis or weak evidence, often combined with an unclear or
jarring writing style.
A poor essay has no real thesis, rambling specific facts, and is internally contradictory as well as
poorly written.

Interpretive Analysis Essay: Rise of the Planet of the Apes All Lives Matter
Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011, Directed by Rupert Wyatt) establishes the power of the
relations among the characters. Their roles in the film shows their assistance and belief in their
leaders plan (Caesar) just like two dream characters. This movie deals with a great number of
problems that appear in everyday social life. If you examine the story and look closer, it is very easy
to come up with a conclusion that the movie is not all about the apes, but deeply about mankind. It is
a tale about human lifestyle/condition or way of life and the way humans connect with their natural
environment and with apes. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A true home for an animal is in the nature and to have freedom to do whatever pleases them, Rise of
the Planet of the Apes increases problems that involve animals. All throughout the movie, an
animal–centric point of view is examined and released. Even though the film was in PG version, the
issue was because of animal experimentation. The film created these issues because it showed us
how apes were kept as pets or even how shelter homes for animals were providing animals to testing
facilities just to better themselves or to enlarge their company by making more money. Humans
cannot get enough of apes because we are always testing them like a lab rat to raise our paycheck.
Not only do we not care about the apes, we have absolutely no care for our own kind. For example,
if it was legal to test a human being first they would have no doubt in their mind because at the end
of the day they are getting their paycheck regardless. We find cures through experimenting on apes.
Humans are self–hearted and do not think about the apes as a living animal, if so we would not be
risking their lives testing on them like a lab project. Humans value money more than life. But that is
what the tale lays down for us to

Perceptions Paper
Perspectives:
Effects on Research and Writing
Every person 's perceptions are entirely inimitable in their own way. Perception, in itself, means to
interpret the world around, in one 's own way based on their personally acquired morals, values, and
fears. Our minds begin to examine and interpret things using these traits. How does this all relate to
research and writing? After making interpretations, a person then begins to form an opinion about
the subject at hand. When writing, a topic is given and immediately the writer forms a related
opinion about the topic and thus, chooses an arguable side. The next step in the process is to begin
delving into researching that topic based on the side that has already been pre–disposed inside ...

The writer is also quick to judge the man, an "Irish" man "fresh from a pub", and immediately
assumes that he is mocking or stereotyping her solely based on her expectations she has taken from
her childhood. When in fact, the man on the bus could have very well been stricken by her beauty
and infatuated with the Latin culture but, Ortiz– Cofer, by design assumes the negative side of the
situation. These views that she has grown up to believe affect her way of thinking, which in turn
affects her writing. In an essay written by Horace Miner, "Body Rituals among the Nacrima" Miner
observes a culture through an outsider 's perspective. Miner, an anthropologist, studies the behavior
and cultural development of the Nacrima. His distant perspective can be seen when he describes the
rituals in which the people take part in as a " . rite [involving] a practice which strikes the
uninitiated stranger as revolting." The culture he speaks of is that of the Americans and Miner
strategically uses word play to disguise this, fooling the reader into believing that the essay depicts
an older, less advanced culture. He uses this distance to his advantage to force the reader to perceive
the world we live in differently; One that is ritualistic and practices magic in order to sustain
survival. For example, Miner states, the "witch doctor has the power to exorcise the devils that lodge
in the heads of people who have been bewitched" when

Interpretive Essay On Harrison Bergeron
Harrison Bergeron Interpretive Essay Freedom. Something everyone, in one way or another, wants
to obtain. But what does it mean to be free? In Harrison Bergeron, especially when compared to
Ovid's original Icarus piece, this question is answered. The retelling shows that in order to feel free
one must know their limitations and their strengths, be able to take a risk and defy society and its
rules. Once someone is able to do put it all on the line and be danger of risking their place in society,
they will be truly free. The importance of knowing your limits in order to surpass them, is shown
firstly when Harrison is introduced in the story. He had many handicaps, all intended to diminish his
strengths. "Instead of a little ear radio for a mental handicap, he wore a tremendous pair of
earphones, and spectacles with thick wavy lenses. The spectacles were intended to make him not
only half blind, but to give him whanging headaches besides." (Line 165–169) Harrison knew his
restrictions, but he also was able to break through them. This is similar to Icarus in Ovid's tale, who
is trapped in the labyrinth. The labyrinth was his barrier, which he needed to ... Show more content

When Harrison took a risk, ripping off his handicaps, he put himself in a lot of danger. "Harrison
tore the straps of his handicap harness like wet tissue paper, tore straps guaranteed to support five
thousand pounds. Harrison's scrap–iron handicaps crashed to the floor." (Line 213–217) This act
indeed did get Harrison killed ultimately. But once he tore off his constraints, he was able to fly.
Harrison was able to finally feel freedom. This is much like Icarus, when he jumped on that cliff
with his makeshift wings, which was very risky. But Icarus was able to fly, something no one in his
day and age had been able to achieve. He was also able to escape the labyrinth, which to him meant

Interpretive Questions for Araby by James Joyce Essay
Araby – Interpretive Questions 1. Joyce is not subtle in describing the setting as desolate and the
adults as cold. There is a lifelessness that surrounds the boy: "musty.... waste littered... somber
houses... cold.... ... silent street... dark muddy lanes." Adults are ghosts: "the boys are surrounded by
"shades of people" whose houses "gazed at one another with brown imperturbable faces." Joyce
evokes an image of the Irish soul as cold and the street as uninhabited and detached, with the houses
personified and more alive than its residents. 2. One allusion is the reference to "Araby" suggests a
romanticism and world (Arabia) remote from the immediate situation. This mysterious and exotic
world contrasts with the mundane ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is little that is "light" or beauty in the setting of the story. The street is "blind." The boy and
his laughing companions "glow," they play in "dark muddy lanes," in "dark dripping gardens," and
"dark odorous stables." Even the street lamps lift a "feeble" light to the sky. Mengan's sister is
always surrounded by light. The boy sees her beauty as she is half–illuminated: the light only hits
"the curve of her neck" and "one–side" of her dress. At the center of the story the boy says, "I was
thankful that I could see so little." When the boy arrives at Araby, "it was now completely dark," but
the story ends with an image of his eyes seeing. 6. Joyce foreshadows the boys revelation when he
communicates the confused turbulence of the boy's feelings when he "left the house in bad humour."
Up to this point in the story he has externalized his turmoil and at this point he first speaks of "I" to
express his anguish. We sense from the repetition of "I" in the next paragraph that a realization is
coming. When his train rides ends with him seeing the "lighted dial", the coming realization is
further supported. The boy arrives late because his uncle neglects to come home on time to give him
money for the train. He is indifferent to the boy's anguish. The boy has arrived too late to do any
serious shopping for the

How I Grew in My Academic Writing
I did not have a firm writing philosophy before this semester, but I to some degree I understood the
importance writing can have on a situation. Now I understand that writing has two outcomes:
gaining support or losing support. When writing an essay it is best if the writing is as specific as
possible. This way the audience is hopefully not left with a confused opinion about the topic. Since
the beginning of the semester I have put a conscious effort to change my writing style. Instead of the
box format that is learned in high school I try to use a more graceful approach while still being
organized. Also, I evaluate the credibility of a source before I use the information to support my
thesis and understand the roles of using ethos, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My academic writing has greatly improved. I now make an active effort to use a thesaurus to vary
my language. I also incorporate more transitional phrases to create a better flow in my essays. I
organize my paragraphs to make sure the information and supporting evidences flows well. Even
though I understood my claims and thesis needed to be supported by credible sources I analyze who
and where the source was published. Specifically, the class discussion in the response to videos we
watched two videos about high fructose corn syrup. I stated," The first video, High Fructose Corn
Syrup (HFCS) – 'Party' TV original commercial, is an advertisement made by The Corn Refiners
Association". I acknowledged that the first video was made by an association that could have biased
opinions about high fructose corn syrup. By acknowledging where the source came from I
demonstrate that if this video was used for evidence for safe fructose consumption it would not be a
credible source because of its ties to the corn association.
Lastly, self–evaluation is a key component to writing an effective essay. Even though I was able to
have student feedback for my essays; self–evaluation is important for me to be able to determine my
strengths and weaknesses in my writing. After composing each essay I was required to compose a
self–evaluation. The evaluations describe what I consider the strong points in the essay, and were I
felt I still needed to

English 101 Made Me a Better Writer
Everyone on the planet has a goal set in life, but only a handful attempt to improve to obtain their
goal by studying the subject their goal is in. In my English class, English 101 this quarter I was
astonished by how much I had progressed as a writer sharpening my writing skills and also learned a
lot about writing that I hadn't learned before. In my writing portfolio for this quarter I had to write
an autobiography essay, a research essay, and this reflection essay to develop my writing skills
better. The writing assignments were fun to do because it challenged me to work on essays of
different styles that were new to me. The essay assignments helped me grow as a better writer that
gave me the self–confidence and skills to take on the world on my own.
During the beginning of the English 101 when we began the writing process: I thought at first that
we spent too much time on our essays but I soon realized how important it was spending time on the
essays to improve them . The revisions that my teacher and classmates made on my essays were
truly helpful for me because it allowed me to better my writing. For every week in the entire course
we went over the MLA formatting process, annotating, citing within the essay, and how to make the
paper flow better. I had the most troubles in this quarter when I started writing some of my essays
for my portfolio because I didn't have a clue how to start them at first. After a while of
brainstorming ideas and seeing examples the teacher

Analysis Of `` On Self Respect `` By Joan Didion
Dear I've read a few essays in the past two weeks and learnt a lot. When I put two of those essays
together, their different and yet similar ideas have triggered my new concepts about individual and
public. And I would love to share that with you. "We are peculiarly in the thrall to everyone we see,
curiously determined to live out –since our self–image is untenable–thief false notions us."– Joan
Didion "On Self–Respect".Didion, in his essay, states that to alien from self is to to free us from the
expectation of others ,to remain indifferent and to achieve self–respect.Upon reading, I began to
wonder if I am self–respect. Character? Free from expectation ?The ability to face up mistakes ?
Maybe not.The article written by Joan Didion, I believe, serves as a reminder to the rest of us,
reminding us of the relationship between individual and public.Always trying to fit in the
imagination of others, people live merely as puppets, controlled by those who tells you what to do.
And this, according to Didion, is the person without self–respect. In the article, Joan Didion
mentions the novel The Great Gatsby, which reminds me of another character in this particular novel
–Gatsby. Trying to attract Daisy, Gatsby purchased a magnificent mansion in Long Island, where he
made himself a name in society by throwing party every weekend to everyone. Unfortunately, his
affection for Daisy turns into an insatiable ambition for social status and wealth that leads to his

The Philosophy Of English 101
Throughout my educational years, I had only done writings that involves in small research papers,
MLA style essays, and summary essays. However, English 101 has given me a new way to look at
my writing skills. Most of the writings I have been doing so far in this course were interpretative
essays where we interpreted and reflected on other's writing and then reflecting back to ours own
writing. This class also has given me the opportunity to work with my classmates and a chance to
discuss about the writing strategy they made in their papers versus the strategy I made in my papers.
In addition, I find the in–class activity to be very useful because it allows me to see other's
perspectives and feedbacks. The in–class activities were class discussions, group works, and
conference with the instructor. At the end of the semester, the class objective was to pick out two
best interpretative essays that we have been working on with a final reflective essay to include in
our final portfolio. So for the rest of this essay, I would like to talk about my two best interpretive
essays that I have decided to include in my final portfolio: "Death of a Funeral Business", and "No
Time to think" and "Time Ain't Money". The first interpretative essay I choose is, "Death of a
Funeral Business" by Sandy Hingston. The purpose of my essay were to write about the way
Hingston constructed her article in a way that her readers would have a positive response to.

However, though that may seem positive, I have understood that I have also had many flaws and
weaknesses whilst writing my essay, which I had not kept in mind during its writing process. Firstly,
I have a weakness in citing and using references to support the information I had implied within my
work piece. Also, another weakness found is that whilst writing my essay, I tend to go for into my
thinking stream and write up long sentences that in the finalized version of the essay need to be
shortened. The biggest flaw however according to the lecturer is "that it had no supporting
references on research to back up any of the arguments you were making – which made it less
scientific and seemed more based on your intuition". The comments received from the tutor where
completely expected as I have had difficulties understanding the process of in–text citations and also
due to forgetting to input a reference page towards the end of my essay. In total, my essay writing
skills would be much better and a greater mark would have been awarded if these mistakes where
avoided before the final submission of the essay; these flaws where all due to poor organization.

negative feedback related to missed out parts of my process which where not taken as important

The Interpretive Design For High School Students Essay
The basic interpretive design best suits this research process as it seeks to explain this specific topic
and explore multiple perspectives of high school students from both countries that possess different
approaches to learning and education. The basic interpretive design will be used to uncover
emergent themes within this topic through interviewing, documenting, and describing the
phenomenon. I will focus on obtaining rich, descriptive texts that will facilitate this understanding in
order to make general conclusions about the emergent themes. The study of this central phenomenon
in question could not be carried out as a case study because it does not address a unique situation
occurring in both countries. It is not an ethnographic study, although it takes into account countries
that have dissimilar cultures; this research will not attempt to give any sociocultural nor
philosophical interpretations and explanations of the data collected. A basic interpretive study
focuses on how individuals interpret their experiences; create their worlds, and the meanings they
attribute to their experiences. Consequently, the overall purpose is to understand how high school
students interpret their experiences and whether or not those experiences have adequately prepared
or inhibited their transition into undergraduate programs. The limitations of my research design is in
the collection of data, as basic interpretive studies focus on using interviews to collect data while

Appraising an Interpretive Phenomenological Research Study Shannia Warkentin Red Deer College
Appraising an Interpretive Phenomenological Research Study Problem Statement In the qualitative
article by Dykes, Slade, and Haywood, the phenomenon of interest is clearly identified as long–term
implications of termination of pregnancy (TOP) and is promptly introduced in the abstract. The
authors state that TOP is a common procedure in the United Kingdom (UK) and implies importance
to the nursing profession due to the prevalence of this procedure as well as confusion demonstrated
by recognized health care organizations on how TOPs affect women. Based on psychological
impacts discussed, this topic is important in order for nurses to understand the vulnerability of
women to negative TOP–associated thoughts and to improve lifelong accessibility to post–TOP
counselling. The twofold aim of the study is presented as exploration of the long–term experiences
of perimenopausal women who had a TOP and their perceptions of connections or lack thereof
between TOP and menopausal experiences. The qualitative approach is appropriate for investigating
the long–term implications of TOP. This is because the stated aim regarding emotional effects on
women fits with the naturalistic emphasis on understanding human experiences. The researcher also
identifies the chosen approach allows exploration of the complexity of emotional experiences with
TOP and therefore will support a

Who Cares About Writing?
Why would anyone care about writing anyway? It's only the single most important form of
communication, outside of verbal. Writing is an underestimated and misunderstood art. Yet it is so
widely used and taken advantage of. By "taking advantage," I mean the improper uses of the
language. But really, who cares? So many use it, but no one takes into consideration how important
the usage of words are and what they have the power to do. I don't think the question should be
'Why would anyone care?' But moreover, 'Who cares?' Because if we don't know the who of who
cares about writing, how can we know the why? In analyzing who really cares about writing I didn't
come up with many individuals or groups of people. I found that ... Show more content on

I'll tell you who cares about writing the most: The person who is reading, the consumer. Consumers
take time out of their busy schedules to read, or listen to music.
I've always though that the person who wrote or produced some form a writing would generally care
about it more than anyone else. I was about fifteen when I realized this wasn't true. Since I was
about seven years old, and had won a writer's award at school, my mom was convinced that she
would read everything that I ever wrote. Every paper I wrote, every note I passed, every diary entry
I sealed, and every yearbook I signed, she read it and I'm almost positive she still has it. There was
this one instance when she found a note that I wrote, needless to say, she was not happy it. After she
made me read out loud to her, I was bold enough to ask her why she was so interested in what I was
writing. She responded by saying: "Because I care." I was thinking to myself, 'Well could care a
little less? I don't even care enough to want to read the note over.' It turned out to be a lesson
learned. Now it all makes sense. Writers, of any sort, don't right to reiterate to themselves how they
feel. They already know! They produce art to be
consumed!
So who cares about writing anyway? "..A book that was dead of language to the uneducated

Oh brother indeed. While in the 2011 article by Richard Shone entitled, "Oh brother!," Shone argues
while the information presented by the book isn't necessarily new, the different ways in which the
authors approach the subject makes for an interesting read. Yet, Shone often contradicts his own

authors then destroying it by pointing out their biases which results in an overall inconsistent,

authors turn quickly to detached and petty. Including the fact that the authors dislike Gauguin, a
friend of Van Gogh's, does not add relevance to the piece nor can it be proven by this review. By
including this tidbit of information he opens the authors up to critic and open bias. He tries to
recover their credibility by randomly attaching at the concluding paragraph, a red herring, which
deduces that Van Gogh was in fact not murdered. This information though does not pertain to

and ill thought out in the end. His flippant attitude towards the authors makes the book seem as
though it will be a disaster, but he claims at first that the authors are innovate and fresh in their
presentation of the information in the book. If Shone is encouraging people to read this book going
about it by bringing up the faults and obvious biases of the authors then it isn't going to influence
someone to read it. Which brings to question just exactly where does the author stand, from reading
the essay his stance is convoluted and lost in a sea of

Reflections on Intro To College Writing.
Writing has always been essential to becoming the person I am today. I 've been writing sketch
comedy and stand–up comedy for about six years, and recently I 've been working on writing music.
I love writing because it is an umbrella term that covers a wide range of topics. I learned from this
class many of the things that writing can accomplish. For example, in the first text I read, Nick
Walker introduced the idea of a "neurodiversity paradigm shift." I found this piece of text truly
inspiring because it presented a minority that many people only passively consider. Walker was able
to make an appeal that caught my attention and he proved that it is possible to make a difference in
the world just by writing. As I said before, writing is an umbrella for many different ideas and
purposes, and after taking Intro To College Writing I was introduced to ideas and movements that I
had never heard of until now, such as the idea of "mushfaking," Mushfaking was introduced in our
third text, "'Mushfaking': A Compensatory Behavior of Prisoners." The text overall did not receive a
very good reception from the class, but after further reading I learned a lot about myself and society.
The basic concept of the text was to introduce a term that many people outside of prisoner
communities are not

Trifles In Susan Glaspell's A Jury Of Her Peers
"A Jury of Her Peers," a short story written by Susan Glaspell in 1917, is an example of early
feminist literature. The female characters, Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters, are able to solve the mystery
of who murdered John Wright while their male counterparts could not. This short story had been
adapted from Glaspell's one–act play Trifles written the previous year. The play consists of the same
characters and plot line as the story. In both works, Glaspell depicts how the men, Sheriff Peters, Mr.
Hale, and County Attorney, disregard the most important area in the house, the kitchen, when it
comes to their investigation. In the end, the women are the ones who find the clues that lead to the
conclusion that Minnie Wright, John Wright's wife, murdered him. Both of Glaspell's female
characters illustrate the ability to step into a male dominated profession by taking on the role of
detective. According to Critical Theory Today: A User–Friendly Guide written by Lois Tyson, a
reader–response critique focuses on an individual's response to a literary text. Reader–response
criticism "maintains that what a text is cannot be separated from what it does" (Tyson 170). There
are several different approaches to reader–response theory that I would be applying, such as
transactional reader response theory and affective stylistics. Firstly, transactional reader–response
theory "analyzes the transaction between text and reader" in which the text stimulates the "feelings,
associations, and

Art History 384 A
5th December 2016 Interpretive Essay In the past few months, I 've had a lot of opportunities to
observe and experience art through the course materials at school, galleries, museums, architectures,
and so on. Even though I always have great interest in modern art and really enjoy the works of
contemporary artist such as Claes Oldenburg and Andy Warhol, my knowledge and understanding
about abstraction is quite limited. However, after our discussion and lecture about Abstract
Expressionism, I found myself drawn to the picture of the "Sea Change" by Jackson Pollock that
presented at the Seattle Art Museum (SAM) and have learned more about abstraction aspect through
his paintings.
Jackson Pollock (1912–1956) is one of the most famous American abstract expressionist painters
from the 1940s and 1950s. He 's also known as the "Jack the Dripper" for his unique style of drip
painting. The "Sea Change" was created in 1947 and was one of a small series of his paintings that
displayed at the Betty Parsons Gallery in New York in 1948. It is a five feet tall and four feet wide
painting. The work was donated to the SAM by Peggy Guggenheim, a wealthy art collector. She
was also the person who opened the Art of this Century Gallery, and helped launch careers of many
abstract expressionists, including Pollock.

Annotated Table of Contents Essay 1 was about a Mission Statement that I had to write for myself
something personal which explains something that is truthful and explains who and what I am and
what I am strving to achieve when searching my name "Brian Mamuyac". What I did to prepare for
this assignment was that our instructor gave us the prompt ahead of time and I created a rough draft
and when we had to meet up in the computer room I just had to type up my essay and turn it in. The
challenging part of this essay would be understanding the prompt because I had no idea what a
Mission statement was and what I was supposed to do. For Essay 1 I was marked down for
redundancy, repetition, grammar and spelling and also clutter. What I can do to prevent the errors in
my next version would be to understand the prompt and directions more and have more ideas to
write about myself. In my revised Essay 1 version I did well on fixing my mistakes and not
repeating the same mistakes as last time by using the feedback that I received and changing or
improving the mistakes that I made in the past. I believe that I was marked down for the grammar,
punctuation and spelling errors, clutter and the conclusion which were the same issues that I was
marked own with. What I can do to ensure that the same issues won't be showing again would be to
reread my revisions and peer read my work so I can get the other mistakes that I might have created
while revising or missed by mistake.

Knowing Self and Self Discovery
Knowing Self
This semester, I had the privilege to experience unrestricted creativity in a structured writing class.
Now, as I reflect upon the semester I come to realize how closed minded I really am. This semester,
I was challenged as a student writer to draw upon something or find inspiration from within to
constructively create a masterpiece with words. Often times, finding or even tapping into my
creative nerve was very difficult. Then I came to realize, as a student writer, I am paralyzed by a
concept called decision making. In a Public Administration Leadership course I actually learned
something about myself. What I had learned really took me back to all the other structured writing
classes I have taken over the years. There is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is on these interconnecting paths we venture off on a journey of trials and tribulations. It is on the
journey where we discover our inner–self and the trials and tribulations is where our self–identity
beings to form. In the end, it all comes down to a few defining decisions that will forever define
who we are or choose to be. Unfortunately, when Barbara's trial came she was not prepared for the
tribulation afterwards. Interesting enough, Barbara walked down a similar path faced a similar trial
and tribulation only to fade away. "There are no satisfactions comparable to a free and spacious
childhood with a clear title to one's own good name at maturity ... What price will Barbara have to
pay for her 'big days' at the typewriter" (p. 71)? The price Barbara and I had to pay was insufficient
development growth. Ultimately, it caused us to lose part of ourselves and fade away.
Tis Be The End
In the end, I come to realize the essays I read throughout the semester were gripping stories about
life. A while back a fellow classmate posed a question to the class. He said if I had a son what would
be the number one trait I would want him to have? After about a few minutes of silence in the class I
uttered the word brave. My class made said, exactly. If I had a son, I would want him to have the
courage to stand up for him and not allow life to run him over. Now, I come to realize what most if
not all the Great American Essays had in common.

Structural Sociologists vs Interpretive Sociologists Essay
Is it true that structural sociologists use only quantitative methods while interpretive sociologists use
only qualitative methods?
The methods that sociologists use to conduct their research vary and can depend on practical
considerations such as suitability of the method, and theoretical considerations such as the
sociologist's theoretical position.
Interpretive sociologists focus on the meanings and definitions which guide and direct behaviour,
they claim that understanding human behaviour involves seeing the world through the eyes of those
being studied. Structural sociologists can be called positivists. Positivist sociology models itself on
the natural sciences such as physics, it is concerned with behaviour that can be ... Show more

However unstructured interviews are more prone to interviewer bias and social desirability effects,
both of which reduce validity. Another method favoured by interpretivists is participant observation
this is because it gives them the opportunity to see the world from the point of view of those being
observed however positivists claim that participant observation is not useful because it produces
hardly any quantifiable data, and the number if people observed is too small to provide a
representative sample and therefore generalisations can not be made.
Positivists favour certain research methods e.g. laboratory experiments because they usually
produce quantifiable results but people are likely to define laboratories as artificial and as a result
their actions may be very different to their behaviour in the real world. In the same way positivists
also favour questionnaires particularly those with closed questions because the results are easily
quantifiable, however it can be argued that questionnaires fail to give people the chance to talk about
their behaviour as they see it.
Therefore it seems that interpretivist sociologists use research methods that produce qualitative data
while positivist sociologists use

The Process of Writing
The Process of Writing
Throughout my whole life I have been taught to write many different ways and on how I should
approach my writing assignments in and outside of class. But there was one particular method that
was taught a lot more than others such as the five paragraphs method. Some assignments were very
easy that I could write off the back of my head and some of the harder one's I have think a lot more
critically. All I ever did was follow the five paragraph process and nothing more. This is what I led
to believe be my downfall in my writing skills because I was unable to use any other methods. So
throughout my essay I will explain the steps of my writing process such as finding my personal
space, understanding the difficulties, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are a couple of ways on how I want to expand on my writing skills as a new college student.
One way I want to change my writing process is that I want to be able to think more critically about
what I am writing. When I mean more critically I mean about like putting a lot more thoughts and
explain more in detail in what I really want the reader to understand, such as the main ideas that I
want the readers to learn or grasp. I think that's one of my other biggest weaknesses which is not
being able to give enough detail into what I am writing. Sometimes when writing I get that "writers
block" where I can figure out what to write anymore and I want to get passed that. I also really want
to expand beyond the five paragraph process because this just won't do for college at all well that's
what I believe. The amount of research paper that will be thrown at me in college I really need to go
"Above and Beyond" if I want an A or B in the class, a little phrase I learned from my government
teacher in high school. So I need to be more open and try out some other type of styles of writing.
There is one way I think is a good way how to expand on my writing skills is by reading a little
more. So I can see how authors write articles, books, or even online. By doing this I can learn how
the authors write and get ideas on their writing process from the beginning of where they started and
how they

A Modern Apocalyptic Narrative With The Book Of Revelation
After spending numerous hours expounding upon my brilliant comparison, countless bottles of
Coca–Cola, and even having my astute roommate Chris review my work, I could not fathom
receiving anything less than an A on this religion paper. Clearly, my religion professor did not
experience even nearly the amount of jubilance that Chris and I underwent while reading what I
thought was my best paper yet. It was the beginning of December, and the end of my first semester
in college was quickly approaching. The one class that I always dreaded writing essays for was my
religion course. Up to that point, I had already completed two essays and performed quite
exceptionally on both of them given how reluctant I was to submit them. When my professor
announced that the prompt for our final class essay was to compare and contrast a modern
apocalyptic narrative with the Book of Revelation, I immediately thought of the movie WALL–E.

computer off and left my room to go exercise and work off my emotions. Fortunately, I quickly

In many instances, individuals neglect to acknowledge the importance of school and a higher

As I read, "The Dark Night of the Soul" by Richard E. Miller, I found it to be an interesting read. He
inquires, why we read, why we write and what might literate arts be said to be good for? In his essay
he describes the school massacres that have occurred throughout the years. As he describes these
events, he asks a deeper question, "What is the point of continuing to read, write and learn in the
face of such underlying dangers. I think that with all that is happening, individuals/students should
continue with education because reading, television, writing and communication makes a difference
in the lives of individuals around the world. The bottom line is that literary art has a way of touching
students unexpectedly one way or another and students should not just throw the art away because
of society's perception.

Fish Reader Response Criticism
Fish's Reader Response Criticism is composed of two interdependent ideas: first, that the meaning
of texts is shaped by the reading experience itself, and second, that these meanings cannot be judged
to be correct or incorrect, but merely belonging to one "interpretive community" or another. The first
idea may be identified as the executive aspect of Reader Response Criticism because it analyzes the
act of reading, while the second idea is the epistemological aspect of the theory because it
circumscribes the knowledge we can acquire about a text to the merely relative. Studied
independently, each aspect of Reader Response Theory offers by itself strong arguments
countervailing the formalist stance of the New Critics. But as we will see, ... Show more content on

This excerpt begins at the level of innate human concepts (flesh) and proceeds through the more
concrete level of medical terminology (muscles, blood, epidermis) and onwards through an
evocative metaphor (red cloud). Before the reader reaches the final clause ("whose soul is
lightning"), he has built up an expectation that a culminating trope will be used to close the
sentence, as is usual. Instead, the fragment ends with "whose soul is lightning" which refers not to
the red cloud, but to "the flesh itself." In other words, the red cloud is not the object of the
concluding clause, but a "psychological multiplier:" the reader sees a red cloud (associated with
storms) and then sees lightning exacerbated by the immediately preceding image. Now the reader
possesses a clear mental picture of the passionate flesh, but the strange syntax (both in French and
English) leaves him uncertain about what exactly the text has said: is lightning the soul of the flesh?
Is the soul the lightning emitted by the flesh? This is an important point–is the soul passion? Or is
passion simply one of several manifestations of the soul? Yourcenar has deliberately shrouded this
discussion in complex syntax because the distinction itself confounds us. If you are lost as to what
exactly the text says right now, Yourcenar has achieved her aim. Now take a look at Grace Frick's
artful translation of the same text:
The flesh itself, that amazing instrument of muscles, blood, and skin, that

Canterbury Tales Interpretive Essay
The Evil Side of Human Nature
Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales became one of the first ever works that began to approach the
standards of modern literature. It was probably one of the first books to offer the readers
entertainment, and not just another set of boring morals. However, the morals, cleverly disguised,
are present in almost every story. Besides, the book offers the descriptions of the most common
aspects of the human nature. The books points out both the good and the bad qualities of the people,
however, the most obvious descriptions are those of the sinful flaws of humans, such as greed and
lust.
One of the people's traits affected by human nature in many stories is greed. As shown throughout,
greed is an evil sin. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"This Miller has done me great mischief, and I will not leave without first finding his daughter"
(The Reeve). In the end, the students sleep with the Miller's wife and daughter, and the Miller ends
up beaten and losing many of his possessions, but the story doesn't justify the students, the stealing,
or even the greed itself. Chaucer leaves it up to the readers to make their own conclusions.
The Canterbury Tales also present a number of shockingly bizarre for their time descriptions of lust
and adultery. In a lot of stories old men in their sixties are shown having young wives, which was
probably common in Chaucer's times. In one example, from the Merchant's tale, old January,
unwilling to die single, decides to marry, but demands that his wife must be younger than twenty.
Later in the story, January's young wife cheats on him in a tree after he had gone blind. "He cast two
eyes up to the tree,/ and saw that Damian had managed his wife/ in such a way as may not be
expressed/ unless I would speak discourteously." (Chaucer 293). In the example from the Wife of
Bath, lusty human nature led one of the king's knights to raping a girl. "It happened that he saw a
maiden/ walking before him, alone as she was born./ And from this maiden then, against her will,/
and by pure force, he took her maidenhood." (Chaucer 223). Again, even though neither the knight,
January, nor his wife May suffered any serious

Essay On Interpretive Reading
Interpretive reading is very important in many ways to the modern world. Interpretive reading which
forms the larger part of the art of public reading is fun, informative, challenging but needs some day
to day strategies to be successful. (39 words)
First, it is important to conduct proper research on various materials available for presentation.
Proper selection of the literature to be presented sets the base for application of other strategies that
will enhance the presentation. A properly selected literature identifies with the theme of the
presentation, the purpose of the presentation, the age bracket of the audience and the expected
outcome of the presentation in terms of message delivery. Proper choice of words and phrases forms
the backbone of effective communication. This is a key characteristic in many speeches of the great

Should Students be Able to Use the Dialect They Choose? The Conference on College Composition
and Communication discusses two very important and controversial questions within their article
"Students' Right to Their Own Language": "What should the schools do about the language habits of
students who come from a wide variety of social, economic, and cultural backgrounds?" (2), and
"Should the schools try to uphold language variety, or to modify it, or to eradicate it?" (2). While for
academic writing purposes students should be expected to use standard American dialect, it is
important to respect the diversity and various heritages throughout the country by allowing students

Allowing students to speak dialects they chose when communicating with peers is acceptable
outside of the classroom and in informal class discussions because there are no requirements that are
necessary to reach within casual communication. If people were not able to speak the dialect they
prefer, we would be rejecting them of their own lifestyles because we would not be allowing the
freedom which the United States promises.
Standard American dialect is necessary in academic writing for three key reasons. First, the ability
to use standard American dialect is a skill that people living in America should obtain because it is
the most spoken and written language across the country. Having the knowledge to use standard
American dialect will be helpful in many different situations, such as in the classroom and business
world. In addition, being able to write using this dialect, will guide in writing a stronger, clearer
paper, as well as ensuring unity between all academic writing. I disagree with the following
statement from "Students' Right to Their Own Language": "We affirm strongly that teachers must
have the experiences and training that will enable them to respect diversity and uphold the right of
students to their own language" (3). Teachers should not have to go through an immense amount of

Coming Into English 101 As A Freshman Art Student
Coming into English 101 as a freshman art student with only the standard amount of high school
writing experience under my belt, this course initially was a bit of a struggle. Though many of my
art classes include writing interpretive essays and analysing visual works of art, being able to
interpret and analyze a written article proved to be a whole different and difficult procedure for me.
Over the course of the class we had to read three major articles and respond to each one by writing
an interpretive essay. In writing these essays we aimed at improving our writing skills in efforts to
be able to analyze and interpret specific text, maintain a controlling purpose, and demonstrate
awareness of rhetorical situations.
Initially my writing lacked structure and a controlling purpose which caused my ideas to be
incoherent and hard for the reader to understand. These difficulties could be attributed to the fact
that I am an art student plagued with the disorganization and non–verbal method of an artist's brain.
Being this way, interpreting and conveying my thoughts accurately and eloquently into the assigned
writings was fairly tough. However, during the course of English 101 I was able to identify my
weaknesses through the aid of writing communities such as peer review sessions and conferences
with my professor. With the help from these resources and the writing process I learned to better
organize my essays and maintain a controlling purpose in order to help my audience

Interpretive Essay on Edward Taylor's Poem, Huswifery
In the poem, Huswifery, by Edward Taylor, a very severe shift seems to take place. The poem begins
with an analogy between the writer and a spinning wheel. However, at the end of the poem suddenly
he is no longer the spinning wheel, he is now a man wearing the cloth that was spun by the spinning
wheel. How could the main analogy of the poem shift so drastically? Actually, upon closer
inspection, the shift does not seem so bizarre. The main idea of the poem is followed through from
beginning to end. It is the story of a man who is truly devoted to the Lord and how his relationship
with the Lord evolves from the point where he is seeking God in his life to the point where he has

The yarn is fine." Going along with the fabric = heart analogy, this would seem to indicate that he
wants the Lord to pull together the pieces of his heart, bring together all of his thoughts and
affections and focus them into one beautiful creation. The "The yarn is fine." part of the line
displays a feeling of fragility. He does not believe that he is capable of shaping his heart himself,
and this is why he must hand it over to the Lord. In his mind, if he tries to do it on his own, the
pieces will most likely break (since the yarn is thin) and he will be just another tattered rag thrown
by the wayside, not usable for its intended purpose.
Once he has been completely woven, and all the essentials of a God–serving heart are completed, he
then goes on to ask of the Lord that He not just leave him plain and dull. He wants to be dyed with
"heavenly colors choice." and "pinked with varnished flowers of paradise." A garment that has been
woven and is left plain is very functional for the owner of that garment, but will not be beautiful or
attractive to others. No one else will feel a great desire to have a similar one for themselves. One
possible interpretation of this point is to think that the author is now turning away from God and
seeking his own glory, asking that others be envious of him. However, this would not fall in line
with the very humble, God–serving attitude displayed throughout each of the stanzas. It seems more
likely that he desires

Nowadays persuasive writing is one of the most common types of writings used in the world. It
contains only one or perhaps several arguments and offers support for the main claim in order to
convince the reader of the writer's opinion. The primary focus is to change the way the reader thinks
about a specific argumentation or claim. In order to obtain desirable results, the writer needs to be
aware of the audience the script could have, and the general purpose of the writing itself. For
instance, how the context of the message is written, sometimes is not perceived the same way,
specifically when the audience believes on the opposite view; therefore, by writing a specific

these examples show, I have become more aware of the organization of the arguments, which is one

Additionally to the two previous areas that I have developed over the course, it is also worth to

Narrative vs Descriptive Writing: Immersing Readers

  • 1. Narrative vs. Descriptive Writing A narrative essay uses a point of view to tell a story. It is an engaging way for an author to tell his reader about an experience they have had or a personal story. Descriptive writing is a description of something. It could be a person, place, thing, emotion or experience. The author is allowed more artistic freedom when writing in descriptive form. While both descriptive and narrative essays are similar in many ways, the descriptive essays use of language fully immerses the reader into the story and allows the reader to feel the intended emotion. Descriptive writing is painting a vivid image. When reading I want to be able to lose myself in the writing doesn't everyone? Both narrative and descriptive writing include ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is very important for a narrative essay to follow a sequence of events. In the narrative essay This Old House, the author followed a clear chronological order. Sedaris told a story that included all of the typical components such as an introduction, and worked its way through all of the events, introducing you to the characters and setting the stage along the way. Our book explains "As you learned earlier, plot is the order, or sequence, of events that unfold in your story. It is crucial that you organize these events so that, by the end of the story, they make sense to the reader and build up to a crucial moment in the narrative. (Connell & Sole, 2013). Sedaris did an excellent job of guiding the reader through the story. In contrast, descriptive writing does not necessarily follow a timeline or story pattern. Descriptive style must use another form of organization. A descriptive essay may for example separate paragraphs by the particular details being described. The author may devote an entire paragraph to a sense, emotion or object. Amy Tan devoted one paragraph to describe her angst and dismay "When I found out that my parents had invited the minister's family over for Christmas Eve dinner, I cried. What would Robert think of our shabby Chinese Christmas? What would he think of our noisy Chinese relatives who lacked proper American manners? What terrible disappointment ... • 5. Critical Analysis Of Killing The Bear By Judith Minty The Analysis of Killing the Bear by Judith Minty Based on Reader Response Criticism The important thing in the reader response theory is the interpretive of the readers itself, rather than the author or even the text. The theory gives the competence to the reader to critic the text, however with the condition the readers have the evidence or research from other people toward the critic. The way of their interpretation may reveal their identity, because the reader gives the critic depends on their knowledge and experience (Philip Goldstein, 2005). Everyone has their own perspective toward anything, especially for the literary works. Each of people perspective is unique. That is why reader response was created. The theory is about the transaction between the writer and the reader. The writer composed a meaningful text, whereas the reader composed an interpreted meaning of the text. Reader response is not about destroying the writer's idea, but it is more constructing the work itself (Louise M. Rosenblatt, 1988). The theory usually used for the basic of the analysis. ... • 7. Essay on Interpretive vs. Objective Theory: Communication... Interpretive Theory Compared to Objective Theory Lindsey Corradino June 9, 2013 Texas Tech University Interpretative and Objective Theory Introduction Understanding the differences and similarities of interpretive and objective theory approaches is key to further expand one's knowledge of communication studies. Author of A First Look at Communication Theory Em Griffin, describes interpretive theories as "the linguistic work of assigning meaning or value to communicative texts; assumes that multiple meanings or truths are possible" (Griffin, p.15). He also defines objective theory as "the assumption that truth is singular and is accessible through unbiased sensory observation; committed to uncovering cause–and–effect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Standard 4 creates a community of agreement, meaning that interpretive theory must be supported by other scholars, and must also become the subject of widespread analysis. Standard 5 is the reform of society, and critical interpreters are reformers who can have an impact of society and generate change. The last standard is Standard 6, and states that interpretive research must contain qualitative research; interpretive scholars use words to support their theories by the use of textual analysis and ethnography. So as you can see, both theories contain specific characteristics that set them apart as two different approaches to better understand communication. It is key to remember that objective uses quantitative research, while interpretive uses qualitative research because if you can understand what the two different types of research are, you can easily remember all of the other standards because of what the research styles are made up of. Theoretical Orientation There are two different types of orientations that a theory can be, objective, which uses quantitative data and believes in singular truths, and there is interpretive, which uses qualitative data and believes in multiple meanings and truths. Different types of studies can fall under each of the two approaches, and will be seen further into the course as specific studies and theories are mentioned and examined. Writing and Page Number Essay QUESTION How does Von Drehle's examination of this 1911 tragedy in New York City shed light on many of the major political, economic, and social developments and changes that occurred in both the city and the United States during the first decades of the twentieth century? Be sure to support your generalizations with specific evidence and examples. INSTRUCTIONS Remember, this is not a book review, but an analytical essay that responds directly to the question posed above. You should make a clear argument, or thesis statement, in the first paragraph, and back it up with persuasive evidence. Consider the difference between the declarations that "the North won the Civil War" and "the North used its greater population and industrial might to defeat the Confederacy." Or, alternately, consider the difference between the following statements: "The South lost the Civil War" and "Ultimately, the South failed to muster the manpower, resources, and popular will necessary to win the war against the Union." You are encouraged to review the guide to writing a history essay and sample essays posted on our Blackboard class site. In general, an excellent essay will have an insightful, important, and clear thesis which responds directly to the question(s) posed in the essay prompt and is supported by well–organized evidence. A good essay will have a reasonably clear if not overwhelmingly brilliant thesis that is responsive to the question(s) and is supported by a fair amount of evidence. An average essay has either a flawed thesis or weak evidence, often combined with an unclear or jarring writing style. A poor essay has no real thesis, rambling specific facts, and is internally contradictory as well as poorly written. Interpretive Analysis Essay: Rise Of The Planet Of Apes Leon Mugo Film 214 Drew Ayers December 2nd Interpretive Analysis Essay: Rise of the Planet of the Apes All Lives Matter Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011, Directed by Rupert Wyatt) establishes the power of the relations among the characters. Their roles in the film shows their assistance and belief in their leaders plan (Caesar) just like two dream characters. This movie deals with a great number of problems that appear in everyday social life. If you examine the story and look closer, it is very easy to come up with a conclusion that the movie is not all about the apes, but deeply about mankind. A true home for an animal is in the nature and to have freedom to do whatever pleases them, Rise of the Planet of the Apes increases problems that involve animals. All throughout the movie, an animal–centric point of view is examined and released. Even though the film was in PG version, the issue was because of animal experimentation. The film created these issues because it showed us how apes were kept as pets or even how shelter homes for animals were providing animals to testing facilities just to better themselves or to enlarge their company by making more money. Humans cannot get enough of apes because we are always testing them like a lab rat to raise our paycheck. Not only do we not care about the apes, we have absolutely no care for our own kind. For example, if it was legal to test a human being first they would have no doubt in their mind because at the end of the day they are getting their paycheck regardless. We find cures through experimenting on apes. Humans are self–hearted and do not think about the apes as a living animal, if so we would not be risking their lives testing on them like a lab project. Humans value money more than life. But that is what the tale lays down for us to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Perception, in itself, means to interpret the world around, in one 's own way based on their personally acquired morals, values, and fears. Our minds begin to examine and interpret things using these traits. How does this all relate to research and writing? After making interpretations, a person then begins to form an opinion about the subject at hand. When writing, a topic is given and immediately the writer forms a related opinion about the topic and thus, chooses an arguable side. When in fact, the man on the bus could have very well been stricken by her beauty and infatuated with the Latin culture but, Ortiz– Cofer, by design assumes the negative side of the situation. These views that she has grown up to believe affect her way of thinking, which in turn affects her writing. In an essay written by Horace Miner, "Body Rituals among the Nacrima" Miner observes a culture through an outsider 's perspective. Miner, an anthropologist, studies the behavior and cultural development of the Nacrima. His distant perspective can be seen when he describes the rituals in which the people take part in as a " . rite [involving] a practice which strikes the uninitiated stranger as revolting." The culture he speaks of is that of the Americans and Miner strategically uses word play to disguise this, fooling the reader into believing that the essay depicts an older, less advanced culture. He uses this distance to his advantage to force the reader to perceive the world we live in differently; One that is ritualistic and practices magic in order to sustain survival. • 18. Interpretive Essay On Harrison Bergeron Harrison Bergeron Interpretive Essay Freedom. Something everyone, in one way or another, wants to obtain. But what does it mean to be free? In Harrison Bergeron, especially when compared to Ovid's original Icarus piece, this question is answered. The retelling shows that in order to feel free one must know their limitations and their strengths, be able to take a risk and defy society and its rules. Once someone is able to do put it all on the line and be danger of risking their place in society, they will be truly free. The importance of knowing your limits in order to surpass them, is shown firstly when Harrison is introduced in the story. He had many handicaps, all intended to diminish his strengths. "Instead of a little ear radio for a mental handicap, he wore a tremendous pair of earphones, and spectacles with thick wavy lenses. The spectacles were intended to make him not only half blind, but to give him whanging headaches besides." (Line 165–169) Harrison knew his restrictions, but he also was able to break through them. This is similar to Icarus in Ovid's tale, who is trapped in the labyrinth. The labyrinth was his barrier, which he needed to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Line 213–217) This act indeed did get Harrison killed ultimately. But once he tore off his constraints, he was able to fly. Harrison was able to finally feel freedom. This is much like Icarus, when he jumped on that cliff with his makeshift wings, which was very risky. But Icarus was able to fly, something no one in his day and age had been able to achieve. • 22. Interpretive Questions for Araby by James Joyce Essay Araby – Interpretive Questions 1. Joyce is not subtle in describing the setting as desolate and the adults as cold. There is a lifelessness that surrounds the boy: "musty.... waste littered... somber houses... cold.... ... silent street... dark muddy lanes." Adults are ghosts: "the boys are surrounded by "shades of people" whose houses "gazed at one another with brown imperturbable faces." Joyce evokes an image of the Irish soul as cold and the street as uninhabited and detached, with the houses personified and more alive than its residents. 2. One allusion is the reference to "Araby" suggests a romanticism and world (Arabia) remote from the immediate situation. This mysterious and exotic world contrasts with the mundane ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is little that is "light" or beauty in the setting of the story. The street is "blind." The boy and his laughing companions "glow," they play in "dark muddy lanes," in "dark dripping gardens," and "dark odorous stables." Even the street lamps lift a "feeble" light to the sky. Mengan's sister is always surrounded by light. The boy sees her beauty as she is half–illuminated: the light only hits "the curve of her neck" and "one–side" of her dress. At the center of the story the boy says, "I was thankful that I could see so little." When the boy arrives at Araby, "it was now completely dark," but the story ends with an image of his eyes seeing. 6. Joyce foreshadows the boys revelation when he communicates the confused turbulence of the boy's feelings when he "left the house in bad humour." Up to this point in the story he has externalized his turmoil and at this point he first speaks of "I" to express his anguish. We sense from the repetition of "I" in the next paragraph that a realization is coming. When his train rides ends with him seeing the "lighted dial", the coming realization is further supported. The boy arrives late because his uncle neglects to come home on time to give him money for the train. He is indifferent to the boy's anguish. Now I understand that writing has two outcomes: gaining support or losing support. When writing an essay it is best if the writing is as specific as possible. This way the audience is hopefully not left with a confused opinion about the topic. Since the beginning of the semester I have put a conscious effort to change my writing style. Instead of the box format that is learned in high school I try to use a more graceful approach while still being organized. Also, I evaluate the credibility of a source before I use the information to support my thesis and understand the roles of using ethos, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My academic writing has greatly improved. I now make an active effort to use a thesaurus to vary my language. I also incorporate more transitional phrases to create a better flow in my essays. I organize my paragraphs to make sure the information and supporting evidences flows well. Even though I understood my claims and thesis needed to be supported by credible sources I analyze who and where the source was published. Specifically, the class discussion in the response to videos we watched two videos about high fructose corn syrup. I stated," The first video, High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) – 'Party' TV original commercial, is an advertisement made by The Corn Refiners Association". I acknowledged that the first video was made by an association that could have biased opinions about high fructose corn syrup. By acknowledging where the source came from I demonstrate that if this video was used for evidence for safe fructose consumption it would not be a credible source because of its ties to the corn association. Lastly, self–evaluation is a key component to writing an effective essay. Even though I was able to have student feedback for my essays; self–evaluation is important for me to be able to determine my strengths and weaknesses in my writing. After composing each essay I was required to compose a self–evaluation. The evaluations describe what I consider the strong points in the essay, and were I felt I still needed to ... In my English class, English 101 this quarter I was astonished by how much I had progressed as a writer sharpening my writing skills and also learned a lot about writing that I hadn't learned before. In my writing portfolio for this quarter I had to write an autobiography essay, a research essay, and this reflection essay to develop my writing skills better. The writing assignments were fun to do because it challenged me to work on essays of different styles that were new to me. The essay assignments helped me grow as a better writer that gave me the self–confidence and skills to take on the world on my own. During the beginning of the English 101 when we began the writing process: I thought at first that we spent too much time on our essays but I soon realized how important it was spending time on the essays to improve them . The revisions that my teacher and classmates made on my essays were truly helpful for me because it allowed me to better my writing. And this, according to Didion, is the person without self–respect. In the article, Joan Didion mentions the novel The Great Gatsby, which reminds me of another character in this particular novel –Gatsby. However, English 101 has given me a new way to look at my writing skills. Most of the writings I have been doing so far in this course were interpretative essays where we interpreted and reflected on other's writing and then reflecting back to ours own writing. This class also has given me the opportunity to work with my classmates and a chance to discuss about the writing strategy they made in their papers versus the strategy I made in my papers. In addition, I find the in–class activity to be very useful because it allows me to see other's perspectives and feedbacks. The in–class activities were class discussions, group works, and conference with the instructor. At the end of the semester, the class objective was to pick out two best interpretative essays that we have been working on with a final reflective essay to include in our final portfolio. So for the rest of this essay, I would like to talk about my two best interpretive essays that I have decided to include in my final portfolio: "Death of a Funeral Business", and "No Time to think" and "Time Ain't Money". The first interpretative essay I choose is, "Death of a Funeral Business" by Sandy Hingston. Also, another weakness found is that whilst writing my essay, I tend to go for into my thinking stream and write up long sentences that in the finalized version of the essay need to be shortened. The biggest flaw however according to the lecturer is "that it had no supporting references on research to back up any of the arguments you were making – which made it less scientific and seemed more based on your intuition". The Interpretive Design For High School Students Essay The basic interpretive design best suits this research process as it seeks to explain this specific topic and explore multiple perspectives of high school students from both countries that possess different approaches to learning and education. The basic interpretive design will be used to uncover emergent themes within this topic through interviewing, documenting, and describing the phenomenon. I will focus on obtaining rich, descriptive texts that will facilitate this understanding in order to make general conclusions about the emergent themes. The study of this central phenomenon in question could not be carried out as a case study because it does not address a unique situation occurring in both countries. It is not an ethnographic study, although it takes into account countries that have dissimilar cultures; this research will not attempt to give any sociocultural nor philosophical interpretations and explanations of the data collected. A basic interpretive study focuses on how individuals interpret their experiences; create their worlds, and the meanings they attribute to their experiences. Consequently, the overall purpose is to understand how high school students interpret their experiences and whether or not those experiences have adequately prepared or inhibited their transition into undergraduate programs. The authors state that TOP is a common procedure in the United Kingdom (UK) and implies importance to the nursing profession due to the prevalence of this procedure as well as confusion demonstrated by recognized health care organizations on how TOPs affect women. Based on psychological impacts discussed, this topic is important in order for nurses to understand the vulnerability of women to negative TOP–associated thoughts and to improve lifelong accessibility to post–TOP counselling. The twofold aim of the study is presented as exploration of the long–term experiences of perimenopausal women who had a TOP and their perceptions of connections or lack thereof between TOP and menopausal experiences. The qualitative approach is appropriate for investigating the long–term implications of TOP. This is because the stated aim regarding emotional effects on women fits with the naturalistic emphasis on understanding human experiences. The researcher also identifies the chosen approach allows exploration of the complexity of emotional experiences with TOP and therefore will support a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Writing is an underestimated and misunderstood art. Yet it is so widely used and taken advantage of. By "taking advantage," I mean the improper uses of the language. But really, who cares? So many use it, but no one takes into consideration how important the usage of words are and what they have the power to do. I don't think the question should be 'Why would anyone care?' But moreover, 'Who cares?' Because if we don't know the who of who cares about writing, how can we know the why? I've always though that the person who wrote or produced some form a writing would generally care about it more than anyone else. I was about fifteen when I realized this wasn't true. Since I was about seven years old, and had won a writer's award at school, my mom was convinced that she would read everything that I ever wrote. Every paper I wrote, every note I passed, every diary entry I sealed, and every yearbook I signed, she read it and I'm almost positive she still has it. There was this one instance when she found a note that I wrote, needless to say, she was not happy it. After she made me read out loud to her, I was bold enough to ask her why she was so interested in what I was writing. She responded by saying: "Because I care." I was thinking to myself, 'Well could care a little less? I don't even care enough to want to read the note over.' It turned out to be a lesson learned. Now it all makes sense. While in the 2011 article by Richard Shone entitled, "Oh brother!," Shone argues while the information presented by the book isn't necessarily new, the different ways in which the authors approach the subject makes for an interesting read. Yet, Shone often contradicts his own claims, with his diction often invalidating what he said previously, establishing credibility for the authors then destroying it by pointing out their biases which results in an overall inconsistent, disorganized and chaotic article. Their scrupulous examination of all of the information doesn't seem overbearing and akin to information overload, in actuality Shone states the more one reads the colossal detail adds to the enthralling nature of the book. Shone then though skews his opinion of the authors. The once herald authors turn quickly to detached and petty. Including the fact that the authors dislike Gauguin, a friend of Van Gogh's, does not add relevance to the piece nor can it be proven by this review. By including this tidbit of information he opens the authors up to critic and open bias. He tries to recover their credibility by randomly attaching at the concluding paragraph, a red herring, which deduces that Van Gogh was in fact not murdered. This information though does not pertain to anything the author was talking about previously, so in turn this makes his essay seem very rushed and ill thought out in the end. His flippant attitude towards the authors makes the book seem as though it will be a disaster, but he claims at first that the authors are innovate and fresh in their presentation of the information in the book. If Shone is encouraging people to read this book going about it by bringing up the faults and obvious biases of the authors then it isn't going to influence someone to read it. Web 991278336 11 Reflections on Intro To College Writing. Writing has always been essential to becoming the person I am today. I 've been writing sketch comedy and stand–up comedy for about six years, and recently I 've been working on writing music. I love writing because it is an umbrella term that covers a wide range of topics. I learned from this class many of the things that writing can accomplish. For example, in the first text I read, Nick Walker introduced the idea of a "neurodiversity paradigm shift." I found this piece of text truly inspiring because it presented a minority that many people only passively consider. Walker was able to make an appeal that caught my attention and he proved that it is possible to make a difference in the world just by writing. As I said before, writing is an umbrella for many different ideas and purposes, and after taking Intro To College Writing I was introduced to ideas and movements that I had never heard of until now, such as the idea of "mushfaking," Mushfaking was introduced in our third text, "'Mushfaking': A Compensatory Behavior of Prisoners." The text overall did not receive a very good reception from the class, but after further reading I learned a lot about myself and society. The basic concept of the text was to introduce a term that many people outside of prisoner communities are not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The female characters, Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters, are able to solve the mystery of who murdered John Wright while their male counterparts could not. This short story had been adapted from Glaspell's one–act play Trifles written the previous year. The play consists of the same characters and plot line as the story. In both works, Glaspell depicts how the men, Sheriff Peters, Mr. Hale, and County Attorney, disregard the most important area in the house, the kitchen, when it comes to their investigation. In the end, the women are the ones who find the clues that lead to the conclusion that Minnie Wright, John Wright's wife, murdered him. Both of Glaspell's female characters illustrate the ability to step into a male dominated profession by taking on the role of detective. According to Critical Theory Today: A User–Friendly Guide written by Lois Tyson, a reader–response critique focuses on an individual's response to a literary text. Reader–response criticism "maintains that what a text is cannot be separated from what it does" (Tyson 170). The methods that sociologists use to conduct their research vary and can depend on practical considerations such as suitability of the method, and theoretical considerations such as the sociologist's theoretical position. Interpretive sociologists focus on the meanings and definitions which guide and direct behaviour, they claim that understanding human behaviour involves seeing the world through the eyes of those being studied. Another method favoured by interpretivists is participant observation this is because it gives them the opportunity to see the world from the point of view of those being observed however positivists claim that participant observation is not useful because it produces hardly any quantifiable data, and the number if people observed is too small to provide a representative sample and therefore generalisations can not be made. Positivists favour certain research methods e.g. laboratory experiments because they usually produce quantifiable results but people are likely to define laboratories as artificial and as a result their actions may be very different to their behaviour in the real world. In the same way positivists also favour questionnaires particularly those with closed questions because the results are easily quantifiable, however it can be argued that questionnaires fail to give people the chance to talk about their behaviour as they see it. When I mean more critically I mean about like putting a lot more thoughts and explain more in detail in what I really want the reader to understand, such as the main ideas that I want the readers to learn or grasp. I think that's one of my other biggest weaknesses which is not being able to give enough detail into what I am writing. Sometimes when writing I get that "writers block" where I can figure out what to write anymore and I want to get passed that. I also really want to expand beyond the five paragraph process because this just won't do for college at all well that's what I believe. The amount of research paper that will be thrown at me in college I really need to go "Above and Beyond" if I want an A or B in the class, a little phrase I learned from my government teacher in high school. So I need to be more open and try out some other type of styles of writing. There is one way I think is a good way how to expand on my writing skills is by reading a little more. So I can see how authors write articles, books, or even online. By doing this I can learn how the authors write and get ideas on their writing process from the beginning of where they started and how they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 56. A Modern Apocalyptic Narrative With The Book Of Revelation After spending numerous hours expounding upon my brilliant comparison, countless bottles of Coca–Cola, and even having my astute roommate Chris review my work, I could not fathom receiving anything less than an A on this religion paper. Clearly, my religion professor did not experience even nearly the amount of jubilance that Chris and I underwent while reading what I thought was my best paper yet. It was the beginning of December, and the end of my first semester in college was quickly approaching. The one class that I always dreaded writing essays for was my religion course. Up to that point, I had already completed two essays and performed quite exceptionally on both of them given how reluctant I was to submit them. When my professor announced that the prompt for our final class essay was to compare and contrast a modern apocalyptic narrative with the Book of Revelation, I immediately thought of the movie WALL–E. Several ideas immediately manifested that would be crucial for me to address. One idea in particular that I was longing to address was the parallel between the two narratives in how they ... My heart immediately sank as I stared at the gigantic "C+" on my paper. Even more degrading was the fact that my professor did not even leave a single comment on my paper after having frantically scrolled through each page. I then immediately shut my computer off and left my room to go exercise and work off my emotions. Fortunately, I quickly recovered from this incident and came to conclusion that maybe it was not as captivating of a comparison for him because he had read so many other papers that had used WALL–E as their narrative as well and I was most likely reiterating what other students had already stated ... The individuals who view education as their number one priority see staying in school is important. Why is it important? Is staying in school going to benefit the student/individual? In this essay, I will explain why the literate arts are important and for what they are good. I will also give the opinions of others and what my views are. As he describes these events, he asks a deeper question, "What is the point of continuing to read, write and learn in the face of such underlying dangers. I think that with all that is happening, individuals/students should continue with education because reading, television, writing and communication makes a difference in the lives of individuals around the world. • 60. Reflective Essay: My First Draft I am not a big fan of writing papers because writing is one of my weakest point. The interpretive essay was a struggle for me and I also didn't know how to put my paper in MLA style. During my first draft I had no clue as to what to write. When I was writing the first draft of the interpretive essay I felt like I was explaining the story instead of interpreting it in my own understanding so I decide not to turn the paper in. When I spoke with Professor Ryan Clark, he told me to write whatever that comes to my mind and that the first draft doesn't have to be perfect; after the talk with him I decided to start on my draft. • 62. Self Interpretive Essay Anne Riley Laid Off: One of the most interesting topics covered in class for me was that of emotions and moods. I have a hard time understanding when and how to express my emotions. This has been a real problem for me in all of my relationships, both professional and personal. Though I have never been laid off I feel I relate to the case of Anne Riley to some degree. Anne was able to better understand and recognize her emotions and in the long run benefited from that knowledge. The case begins with Anne Riley meeting with a recruiter from Goldman Sachs' Private Equity Group. She is hoping that this interview will eventually pay off with a permanent job upon her graduation. Throughout the case many descriptive words were used so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The case describes her determination and hard work. Raised by her mother Anne began earning her own money at the age of 15. Anne was the first in her family to attend college and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree with a focus in finance. She understood from a young age that work offered a direct payoff; the harder she worked the bigger her reward in the end. Anne, like me, had goals for her life. She had a direction and path she wanted to follow and knew what she had to do to get there. She had chosen a career in private equity and knew that a person with these aspirations spent a few years after college working and moving up within a firm before attending school. Anne was offered a position with Storrow after a rough interview process. Anne soon relocated to a new city leaving her family, friends, and life behind her in New York. Being confident in her goals and plans Anne found a nice apartment, furnished it, and began a small family (adopted a dog). Like Anne, I too relocated to a new city in order to pursue my current job. I moved quickly leaving behind friends and relationships I had come to cherish. I moved into an apartment with my small family not knowing the area or anyone near us. I too felt confident in myself and knew I would be here for a while moving up in my career. I have invested in my education because I know that if I aspire to provide for my family I will need an education. I also will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 64. Fish Reader Response Criticism Fish's Reader Response Criticism is composed of two interdependent ideas: first, that the meaning of texts is shaped by the reading experience itself, and second, that these meanings cannot be judged to be correct or incorrect, but merely belonging to one "interpretive community" or another. The first idea may be identified as the executive aspect of Reader Response Criticism because it analyzes the act of reading, while the second idea is the epistemological aspect of the theory because it circumscribes the knowledge we can acquire about a text to the merely relative. Studied independently, each aspect of Reader Response Theory offers by itself strong arguments countervailing the formalist stance of the New Critics. But as we will see, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This excerpt begins at the level of innate human concepts (flesh) and proceeds through the more concrete level of medical terminology (muscles, blood, epidermis) and onwards through an evocative metaphor (red cloud). Before the reader reaches the final clause ("whose soul is lightning"), he has built up an expectation that a culminating trope will be used to close the sentence, as is usual. Instead, the fragment ends with "whose soul is lightning" which refers not to the red cloud, but to "the flesh itself." In other words, the red cloud is not the object of the concluding clause, but a "psychological multiplier:" the reader sees a red cloud (associated with storms) and then sees lightning exacerbated by the immediately preceding image. Now the reader possesses a clear mental picture of the passionate flesh, but the strange syntax (both in French and English) leaves him uncertain about what exactly the text has said: is lightning the soul of the flesh? Is the soul the lightning emitted by the flesh? This is an important point–is the soul passion? Or is passion simply one of several manifestations of the soul? Yourcenar has deliberately shrouded this discussion in complex syntax because the distinction itself confounds us. If you are lost as to what exactly the text says right now, Yourcenar has achieved her aim. Now take a look at Grace Frick's artful translation of the same text: The flesh itself, that amazing instrument of muscles, blood, and skin, that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 66. Canterbury Tales Interpretive Essay The Evil Side of Human Nature Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales became one of the first ever works that began to approach the standards of modern literature. It was probably one of the first books to offer the readers entertainment, and not just another set of boring morals. However, the morals, cleverly disguised, are present in almost every story. Besides, the book offers the descriptions of the most common aspects of the human nature. The books points out both the good and the bad qualities of the people, however, the most obvious descriptions are those of the sinful flaws of humans, such as greed and lust. One of the people's traits affected by human nature in many stories is greed. As shown throughout, greed is an evil sin. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "This Miller has done me great mischief, and I will not leave without first finding his daughter" (The Reeve). In the end, the students sleep with the Miller's wife and daughter, and the Miller ends up beaten and losing many of his possessions, but the story doesn't justify the students, the stealing, or even the greed itself. Chaucer leaves it up to the readers to make their own conclusions. The Canterbury Tales also present a number of shockingly bizarre for their time descriptions of lust and adultery. In a lot of stories old men in their sixties are shown having young wives, which was probably common in Chaucer's times. In one example, from the Merchant's tale, old January, unwilling to die single, decides to marry, but demands that his wife must be younger than twenty. Later in the story, January's young wife cheats on him in a tree after he had gone blind. "He cast two eyes up to the tree,/ and saw that Damian had managed his wife/ in such a way as may not be expressed/ unless I would speak discourteously." (Chaucer 293). In the example from the Wife of Bath, lusty human nature led one of the king's knights to raping a girl. "It happened that he saw a maiden/ walking before him, alone as she was born./ And from this maiden then, against her will,/ and by pure force, he took her maidenhood." (Chaucer 223). • 72. "A Student's Right to Their Own Language" Interpretive Essay Chelsea T Should Students be Able to Use the Dialect They Choose? The Conference on College Composition and Communication discusses two very important and controversial questions within their article "Students' Right to Their Own Language": "What should the schools do about the language habits of students who come from a wide variety of social, economic, and cultural backgrounds?" (2), and "Should the schools try to uphold language variety, or to modify it, or to eradicate it?" (2). While for academic writing purposes students should be expected to use standard American dialect, it is important to respect the diversity and various heritages throughout the country by allowing students to use the dialect they choose when speaking. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Allowing students to speak dialects they chose when communicating with peers is acceptable outside of the classroom and in informal class discussions because there are no requirements that are necessary to reach within casual communication. If people were not able to speak the dialect they prefer, we would be rejecting them of their own lifestyles because we would not be allowing the freedom which the United States promises. Standard American dialect is necessary in academic writing for three key reasons. First, the ability to use standard American dialect is a skill that people living in America should obtain because it is the most spoken and written language across the country. Having the knowledge to use standard American dialect will be helpful in many different situations, such as in the classroom and business world. In addition, being able to write using this dialect, will guide in writing a stronger, clearer paper, as well as ensuring unity between all academic writing. I disagree with the following statement from "Students' Right to Their Own Language": "We affirm strongly that teachers must have the experiences and training that will enable them to respect diversity and uphold the right of students to their own language" (3). Teachers should not have to go through an immense amount of training ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 74. Coming Into English 101 As A Freshman Art Student Coming into English 101 as a freshman art student with only the standard amount of high school writing experience under my belt, this course initially was a bit of a struggle. Though many of my art classes include writing interpretive essays and analysing visual works of art, being able to interpret and analyze a written article proved to be a whole different and difficult procedure for me. Over the course of the class we had to read three major articles and respond to each one by writing an interpretive essay. In writing these essays we aimed at improving our writing skills in efforts to be able to analyze and interpret specific text, maintain a controlling purpose, and demonstrate awareness of rhetorical situations. Initially my writing lacked structure and a controlling purpose which caused my ideas to be incoherent and hard for the reader to understand. These difficulties could be attributed to the fact that I am an art student plagued with the disorganization and non–verbal method of an artist's brain. Being this way, interpreting and conveying my thoughts accurately and eloquently into the assigned writings was fairly tough. However, during the course of English 101 I was able to identify my weaknesses through the aid of writing communities such as peer review sessions and conferences with my professor. With the help from these resources and the writing process I learned to better organize my essays and maintain a controlling purpose in order to help my audience ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 76. Interpretive Essay on Edward Taylor's Poem, Huswifery Interpretive Essay on Edward Taylor's Poem, Huswifery In the poem, Huswifery, by Edward Taylor, a very severe shift seems to take place. The poem begins with an analogy between the writer and a spinning wheel. However, at the end of the poem suddenly he is no longer the spinning wheel, he is now a man wearing the cloth that was spun by the spinning wheel. How could the main analogy of the poem shift so drastically? Actually, upon closer inspection, the shift does not seem so bizarre. The main idea of the poem is followed through from beginning to end. It is the story of a man who is truly devoted to the Lord and how his relationship with the Lord evolves from the point where he is seeking God in his life to the point where he has found ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The yarn is fine." Going along with the fabric = heart analogy, this would seem to indicate that he wants the Lord to pull together the pieces of his heart, bring together all of his thoughts and affections and focus them into one beautiful creation. The "The yarn is fine." part of the line displays a feeling of fragility. He does not believe that he is capable of shaping his heart himself, and this is why he must hand it over to the Lord. In his mind, if he tries to do it on his own, the pieces will most likely break (since the yarn is thin) and he will be just another tattered rag thrown by the wayside, not usable for its intended purpose. Once he has been completely woven, and all the essentials of a God–serving heart are completed, he then goes on to ask of the Lord that He not just leave him plain and dull. He wants to be dyed with "heavenly colors choice." and "pinked with varnished flowers of paradise." A garment that has been woven and is left plain is very functional for the owner of that garment, but will not be beautiful or attractive to others. No one else will feel a great desire to have a similar one for themselves. One possible interpretation of this point is to think that the author is now turning away from God and seeking his own glory, asking that others be envious of him. However, this would not fall in line with the very humble, God–serving attitude displayed throughout each of the stanzas. It seems more likely that he desires ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It contains only one or perhaps several arguments and offers support for the main claim in order to convince the reader of the writer's opinion. The primary focus is to change the way the reader thinks about a specific argumentation or claim. In order to obtain desirable results, the writer needs to be aware of the audience the script could have, and the general purpose of the writing itself.
