As Outside The Bones And Delirium By Lyn Di Iorio And...
The current paper tends to explore the conceptual literature illustrated in two different novels
entitled as Outside the Bones and Delirium. Moreover, the presented paper will highlight the role of
female protagonist and their mystical, ghostly, and paranormal influence in the narrations.
Thesis Statement The presented paper aims to discuss the elements of spectrality and ghostliness
while analyzing the social context entitled as Outside the Bones and Delirium. Moreover, the paper
signified the role of women and their mystical powers based on their personal reflections.
Analysis
Lyn Di Iorio and Laura Restrepo in their respective novels have managed to provide an overview
that how supernatural and mystical powers and entities can change the life and perspective of
individuals. Both of the novels entitled as Outside the Bones and Delirium are having a similar
theme of conventionality and ghostliness. On the other hand, it could be articulated that the female
characters in both the novels have proved their mental instabilities, individualisms and
rebelliousness have disturbed the lives of others. Moreover, it could be analyzed in the novels that
both the author in their social context has explained the dark secrets of the life of individuals.
Moreover, the story depicted in the novel entitled as Delirium is based on the story of Agustina
Londono who had a disturbing childhood as she had no mother and her father was very strict
(Restrepo 28). Moreover, it could be analyzed

Ghosts Are The Spirits Of The Dead
Specter, spirit, banshee, poltergeist, apparition, phantom, or spook, call them what you wish, but the
general most common term for these creatures are ghosts. The word "ghost" has many connotations
connected to it in the American culture. One could mean the scary or friendly fictional ghosts of
Halloween or one could mean the more serious and controversial creature, the spirit of a dead
person stuck in between earth and the afterlife. Even if one doesn't believe in them, one is very
likely to encounter one in the American culture, whether it is through knowing people who believe
they have encountered ghosts, or through media such as movies or books. Ghosts have been
entangled in our history and culture. There are so many different definitions and views on these
creatures. Thus the issue of the cultural importance of ghosts in America is unresolved because of
entertainment views, scientific evidence or lack of, and religious views. From a traditional stand
point, ghosts are the spirits of the dead. Stephen Wagner from About.com claims that ghosts are a
common part of the human experience. In his article, "Ghosts: What Are They?", Wagner
categorizes the common views of ghosts. The first is that they are the spirits of dead people that for
some reason are stuck between this world and the next, usually due to the result of a tragedy or
trauma (Wagner 1). Another type of ghost is what Wagner labels residual hauntings or recordings,
ghosts that appear to be mere recordings on

Persuasive Essay On Ghosts
Have you ever driven on the road and spotted an abandoned, creepy, old building – whether it's an
old factory, hospital, or house – and hearing that it was haunted by the people who once lived there?
Well, in some places you'll find that there are still quite of bit of these buildings around; some being
used as historical locations while others are being used as a functioning house. But when it all
comes down to ghost and spirits, people, of course, have different opinions and beliefs on the
subject.
Some people, for example, say that ghost don't exist and are just used to scare people, especially
around Halloween. While other people strongly believe in life after death and provide scientific
evidence to back up their claims. Then there are individuals who just aren't sure what to believe
when it comes to paranormal science. So, if you're investigating into the paranormal, you can be as

The good news is, spirits can be found in almost any location. That's why it's important for you to
decide which type of spirits you'd like to investigate. Some spirits, for instance, are lost souls

Summary : ' The Serenity Of The Area '
Located within the maritime community of Diggs, Virginia, just north of Gloucester, you will
discover a small unincorporated village nestled in Mathews County that is virtually basking with
chilling secrets that are the prelude for things to come once you dare to tread down the hidden paths
that stream throughout the gnarled trees with menacing branches that mimic fingers, housed within
the thick foliage that has been their home in the dark, eerie woods for centuries. Lying just beneath
the umbrella of trees, there is an ominous promise to the living souls braving the haunted and
discontented forest that something is going to happen once they have made the decision to continue
on the haunted path that leads to mystery, intrigue and a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The empty Colonial survived several fires that were mysteriously smothered almost as fast as they
were started. However the homestead was completely demolished after a blazing fire burned it to the
ground. The community along with visitors to the area and investigating paranormal teams have
dubbed it one of the most eerie and haunted hot–spots in the entire state of Virginia. Apparitions,
ghosts, flickering lantern lights, dark shadows, and other phantom entities have been spotted in the
Old House Woods for over 200 years.
Mathews County was once an active port just before Revolutionary and Civil Wars. The entire area
is saturated in history that includes unexplained deaths, bloodied and battered soldiers, ornery, knife
wielding pirates in search of treasures, and a Indian burial grounds. With this kind of colorful
history, it is no wonder that the woods and nearby Haven Beach, overlooking Chesapeake Bay, are
haunted and legendary. Folklore has woven many tales that include sightings of ghost horses,
spectral headless hellhounds, unexplained floating lights, orbs, the ghosts of British and Spanish
soldiers, and a ghost pirate ship that appears just before an unexpected storm is setting in.

History Of St. Albans Sanatorium
St. Albans Sanatorium has a beautiful Sphinx–like presence that literally vibrates with remarkable
energy. She will often call out to certain people, pulling them into her arms and into her service. I
know, because she chose me to help save her and I am not alone. When I first came to St. Albans I
was working with merchandising. At that time I was afraid of the dark hallways and empty rooms of
the old asylum. I quickly overcame my fear of the place and it was replaced by a love of the
building and what it had meant for so many who had come before me. We are its caretakers. Those
of us, both paid and volunteer who strive to keep the doors open to a place worth saving, a place that
was once the caretaker to so many within its care. Those of us who are now here carry on the vision
of people like Don Hanauer, former Director of Operations for St. Albans. He saw the beauty in this
building and had a vision of restoring it to its former glory. As outlined in the final chapter of this
book, we have worked on a number of special events developed to generate funding for the
structure's restoration. At some point, Don's vision for St. Albans became mine. After Don left I
knew that I would need to lead the effort to take the sanatorium from disrepair back into wholeness.
The beauty and Spirit of this historic landmark now draws paranormal investigators from all over
America and beyond, to walk the hallways with the intent of encountering its remaining residents.

Alabama Ghost Stories
Many people have been inside haunted houses or lived in a haunted house. Some people do not
realize actually if there house is haunted or not. People who actually know about a haunted house ,
they want to visit and video what paranormal activities happen at the haunted house. In Alabama,
three places have been visited and recorded of the ghost inthe haunted facility. The word facility is
being used because not all ghost exist in houses, they can be in backyard, bridge, anywhere. The big
houses you pass by on the highway that you think are pretty, they might not always be as they seem.

the other well diggers tried to help unbury him but they could not. Some people believe that the well

The Belief of Reincarnation
Paranormal is defined as the denoting of events or phenomena that are beyond the scope of normal
scientific understanding. Scientists, researchers, and analysts have and are still trying to find logical
solutions for unnatural things occurring. Parapsychology is a subject that sparks the interests of
people all over the world and accurate analysis of it is yet to be found. Parapsychological
Association (2011) says, "Parapsychology is the scientific and scholarly study of three kinds of
unusual events (ESP, mind–matter interaction, and survival), which are associated with human
experience...The existence of these phenomena suggests the strict subjective/objective dichotomy
proposed by the old paradigm may not be quite as clear–cut as once ... Show more content on

Reincarnation is accepted in different parts of the country. The Question of Reincarnation says, "In
the twentieth century, it is undeniably accepted among most religions of the East...In the West,
mainstream religions and churches shy away from any discussion or belief in the cycle of rebirth"
(2001). A recent studied revealed most Americans believe in reincarnation.
When it comes to the unnatural side of things, people tend not to believe in it unless there is
scientific proof. To deny the existence of reincarnation because there is no concrete proof is unfair
because many other spiritual and religious teachings have yet to be proven but there is so much
belief in such things (The Question of Reincarnation: Part One, 2001). The Question of
Reincarnation says, "The fact of reincarnation makes more sense and is more in line with natural
law than the myth of it", the reasons were because, "Reincarnation follows the universal Law of
Cycles; Reincarnation is a wonderful demonstration of God's grace and our ability to correct that
which needs to be corrected; It seems inconceivable that we can master the lower aspects of the
personality in one earthly lifetime; and Reincarnation helps explain the appearance of evil in a world
guided by a loving God" (2001).

The team of investigators is finished recording for today. They begin reviewing the footage and
come across a strange sound that was not witnessed at the time of recording. Ghosts are considered
to be spirits of deceased people. They are known to possess objects and haunt people. Their
existence is very controversial because there is little evidence in order to prove they are real. Ghosts
are real because there is photographic evidence, auditory evidence, and there is no way to prove that
they are not real. There is photographic evidence for the existence of ghosts. Paranormal
investigators have uncovered old photos, that could not have been edited at the time in which was

Audio recordings are fake and just made to entertain people, however, true paranormal investigators

way to prove the existence of ghosts, then why try to prove their existence if they cannot be proven.

The Pros And Cons Of Paranormal Activity
Paranormal activity has been speculated to have been around for centuries and will continue to be
around. There may be not be any real proof of ghosts, but many people believe in them. Not
everyone believes in paranormal activity, but that doesn't mean there isn't something going on.
About 47% of Americans believe in ghost and think they're real. (huffpost) I've had personal
experience with what I believe would be a ghost. The biggest reason why I think paranormal activity
is real because of what I have experienced.
Paranormal activity does exist, it may not be physically proven, but a lot of people believe in it. Not
everyone has to agree with it, but people just think people who believe in ghost, or tell stories, make
it up. "But let's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I personally believe in ghost and many others do, but scientist won't say it's real if there isn't any
hard proof. They just explain these experiences by natural things happening, like wind pushing a
door close or open or something moving. "People are more prone to see a ghost when they are in an
altered state of consciousness" (Godden, M). Paranormal experiences happen randomly, they don't
just happen when you want them to but if you make yourself believe you're being haunted and
you're really not. Not everyone believes ghost exist, they say they're fake and made up, which I can
see there points but with so many people experiences these things, doesn't make them liars. "Of the
1,000 adults interviewed Dec. 17–18, the HuffPost/YouGov poll revealed 45 percent believe in
ghosts, or that the spirits of dead people can come back in certain places and situations. When asked
if they believe there's a life after death, 64 percent responded Yes. While 59 percent of adults don't
believe they've ever actually seen a ghost, 43 percent also don't think that ghosts or spirits can harm
or interact with living people."(Huffpost) This right here shows that people go somewhere when

The role of non–evidence based beliefs on anti–vaccination–Literature Review

Introduction
Anti–vaccination proponents have largely embedded their energies in promoting doubt in parents,
instructing forms of biomedical fear while capitalizing on their spiritual and paranormal belief
naivety to enforce the same. These approaches are ensured to make it possible that even with any
increase in people's knowledge and evidence, their rational strength over anti–vaccine movements
become a myriad.[Lewandowsky et al. 2013] Decision making becomes a weak thing to do because

the growth of various forms of fear and confusion in the medical field. According to Kasarda [2013]
Dr. Wakefield is regarded as the father of the anti–vaccination movement in the world. Deep into the
nation, controversies began to grow stronger, and these led to the development of Australian
Vaccination Network (AVN) which has given many parents a voice to express their sentiments. In
2013, there was an article on AVN website that was critically opposing the monopolistic attitude
doctors show patients in matters to do with vaccines. In that, doctors and their professional bodies
such as AMA and the RACGP and government officials need to express total truth to citizens about
vaccines [Australian Vaccination Network, 2013]. Their totalitarian stance over vaccine
administration is increasing skepticism and mistrust in parents. Parents see this as a way for these
individuals to maintain healthcare monopoly while at the same time failing to reveal to them the
truth about safety and effectiveness of the vaccines [Australian Vaccination Network, 2013].
Further, AVN sought to clarify that western economies report an increase of disabled and autistic

The Truth About Ghosts And Demons Essay
"Oren Peli once said, 'The thing I find really scary about ghosts and demons is tat ylu don't really
know what they are or where they are. They're not very well understood. You don't know what they
want from you. So it's the kind of thing you don't even know how to defend yourself against.
Anything that's unknown and mysterious is very scary.'" Controversial topics range from global
tragedies to the newest video game. One that has lived for centuries, is whether or not the
supernatural and paranormal exist. Like every discussion, there are believers, and there are skeptics.
Scientists tend to be the skeptics, while those with an adventurous mind tend to be those who
believe that some other–world being exist. Scientists use experimentation to give explanations as to
why someone would have a paranormal experience, and most have been successful in what they
were proving, but those who are believers also give excellent points to why their experiences have
no scientific proof with them making it hard to choose a side. Since the dawn of time, there were
ghosts, and every person has their own belief, but many might not know for sure because of the
variety of explanations. French from the University of London calls belief in ghosts a
"misinterpretation of natural phenomena" (French, October 2014, para 1). He explains that from a
psychological perspective, it is almost impossible to believe in such an idea. Modern neuroscience
has concluded that no consciousness could survive

Why people believe in ghosts.
Lying in bed in the middle of the night while sleep eludes me, a noise breaks through the silence. Oh
my God! What was that!? Maybe it was just my imagination, or maybe it was just the house settling.
There it is again! I must be hearing things. I get cold and my body starts to shiver uncontrollably. I
peek to where the sound comes from and I could swear I see something through the dark room; it
appears even darker than the surrounding area. Oh my! I think it just moved. My breathing becomes
labored and I pull the covers over my head, trying to calm myself down while making my brain
work through what just happened. Was I dreaming? Or did I just see a ghost?

Another example of a cultures belief in ghosts is Ireland's and Scotland's (also known as the Celt's)
belief in Samhain or All Hallow's Eve. Samhain is a festival that is celebrated from October 31st to
November 2nd. Samhain is a time of the year that celebrates the last harvest before the winter
comes, and is dedicated to the "Lord of the Dead" (Guiley 19). The Celt's believe that the dead will
come out of their final resting place and mess with the crops. Also, it is believed that communication
with the dead is easier during Samhain. It is said that the veil that separates the living from the dead
is at its thinnest during this time. The Lord of the Dead holds a sentencing of spirits, where if they
were good they can exist in the form of a human, and if they were bad, the form of an animal.
Offerings of food and drink are made to the Lord of the Dead so he would not be so severe in his
sentencing. Many Celt's would dress up on Samhain to confuse the spirits that were roaming around
so they wouldn't stop, but continue to pass them by (Guiley 19). This festival is still celebrated today
as Halloween. Currently, Americans hold by some of the old traditions by dressing up and making
offerings by handing out candy. Many Celt's still hold beliefs in the old ways. Celt's also believe in

Literary Analysis Of The American Gothic Genre
The American Gothic Genre, which focuses on the paranormal aspects of life, began in the 1700s
and is still used today. Kelly Link is the author of "The Specialist's Hat", and the author of many
literary collections. She's received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and has co–
edited a number of anthologies. She uses imagery, intimidating diction, and literary devices to
convey the emotion and theme of snakes, hollowness, and death in this story.
From the start, "The Specialist's Hat" lures you in with an eerie ambience. The tale plays on some
macabre facet of the simplicity of childhood. It is focalized around a game that the twins play,
known as the Dead game, with a capital D. When you're Dead, you can do anything you want
without fear, like in a fantasy. When you're dead with a lowercase d, you are truly dead, lifeless. The
twins started playing this Dead game 8 days after their mother died. My favorite part of Kelly's
writing is just how well she can weave two parallel narratives with a climax whose sense of dread is
derived from a sort of subtle asymmetry between the two.
The American Gothic Genre typically shows guilt, puritanism, supernatural beings and/ or events,
fear of the unknown, unheimlich, anxieties, and rationality vs irrationality. Mysteries, intense
emotion, romance, heroes, evil curses, and gloomy, decaying isolated settings such as castles and
mansions are also characteristics of this genre. There is an evil tone throughout the work. Freud

Essay about Believing in the Paranormal
A ghost, according to the article "History of Ghosts" on History.com, is a person's spirit once it has
separated itself from the body after death. Also known as specters, ghosts continue existing even
after the heart stops and the corpse is cold, and they fall under the category of paranormal
phenomena. When something is considered paranormal, it simply means that science has no
explanation for it. So if science can't explain it, it can't be real, right? Not necessarily. It just means
that it hasn't been proven a fact, it's all in theory. But Jack Porter makes a valid point in his article,

There have even been reports of ghosts of historical figures as well. One of the most frequently

Anne Boleyn was executed at the Tower of London in 1536 after being accused of witchcraft,

House in the United States. Considered to be perhaps the most haunted house in America, there has
been several reported phenomenons, many of them believed to be sightings of past presidents of the
United States. Mary Todd Lincoln, wife of Abraham Lincoln, believed strongly in the occult and
often held seances in order to communicate with her sons. She had told friends she had heard former
president Andrew Jackson stomping and swearing through the halls of the presidential residence.

Ghost Sightings In The 18th Century
There are many things in our world that we cannot explain. We've used religion, science, stories, and
theories, anything we could come up with to explain life's mysteries. One subject of interest that we
are all still stumped on are things classified as paranormal. Paranormal activity is a very debatable
topic, with some saying ghosts and poltergeists are as real as you and me, while others try to explain
the weird happenings as something natural. Even if one believes in the paranormal or not, the
subject is, to say the least, very interesting. All over the world, there are claims of supernatural
things going on; there are ghost sightings every day, especially around historical places, more
specifically where mass killings or bloody battles have taken place. One of these places that is
famous for its ghostly visitors is the Tower of London, located in The London Borough of Tower

Are Haunted Houses Are Not The Place?
The number of haunted houses, both professional and ameture, has reached well into the thousands
as of 2016. That means you have many to choose from this coming holiday. The average big house,
a professional house with a substantial run time, draws in at least 300 patrons a night. Yet, with the
millions of participants every year, I would confidently say that less than half, if even that, are really
getting the most out of the experience. Worry not, for i have prepared all that you need to know
about having the best experience that you can. The first step to really enjoying a haunt, is to make
sure you choose the right one. If you've never been to a haunted house, you should look up the ones
in your area online. Each big house should have it's own website, complete with both videos and
reviews. Look through these to help yourself get a feeling as to how the haunt operates. You also
have to know yourself. Haunted houses are not the place for foolish lies and false bravado. If you
are deathly afraid of spiders, don 't buy tickets to Phobia Haunt, which has a sub walkthrough called
Arachnophobia, just because some girl you like wants to go. Not only will this make you never want
to go to another haunt, but she won't agree to another date if you peed yourself in front of her
because you tried to act macho. Now that you've chosen the haunt that you want, it 's time to get
ready to go. The season usually begins around September 16, and wraps up November the third,

Ghosts And Demons The Truth Of The Bell Witch Analysis
Growing up in south central Kentucky, near the Tennessee state line. I heard the story of the Bell

of haunting caused the paranormal events that occurred on the Bell farm in Adams, Tennessee. If the
elements of this paranormal case are accurate, it is one of the most important cases to ever be
experienced. Most people consider the legend of the Bell Witch to be a haunting, but Ghosts and
Demons: The Truth of the Bell Witch by Kyl T. Cobb, Jr. supports the idea that it has elements of a

The entity was more powerful than a typical poltergeist. "The term poltergeist is German
(poltem–"to make noise" and geist– "spirit"). Generally, a poltergeist can be described as a series of
paranormal event involving the unexplained, and often agitated, movements of objects with no
visible source of the energy required for motion." (Cobb,Jr., 2016, p. 9) The key characteristics of a
poltergeist event is object movement. The onset and second stage of the haunting was subtle
knocking and tapping. (Cobb,Jr., 2016) The third stage of the paranormal event was the pulling of
hair and bedcovers, which goes beyond the ability of a poltergeist. (Cobb,Jr., 2016) A later event that
occurred during the haunting of the Bell Witch that does not meet the definition of a poltergeist is
the verbal communication between the witch and the Bell family. (Cobb,Jr., 2016) Lastly, another
element of the paranormal phenomenon is that the Bell Witch entity had the ability to take on
several different forms of appearance. (Cobb,Jr., 2016) The entity presented itself in the forms of
animals and human doppelgangers, which does not meet the definition of a poltergeist. The extent of
a poltergeist's abilities is to make noise with the ability to move objects around. A poltergeist
manifests by noises, which is how the Bell Witch haunting began. However, other elements of the

creature on the St. Colletta's grounds at midnight on two separate nights. The first night, he found
the creature kneeling atop a Native American burial mound. The strange, upright being appeared to
be clawing the ground but fled when the watchman approached" (24).
The beast supposedly has the body of a man covered in fur and the head of a wolf with pointed ears.
Some claim to have photos of it as evidence but many don't believe that those photos are real.
Encounters were still being reported with the Beast of Bray Road. Unfortunately, the last reported

when a door slightly opens for Karli when the three separate to investigate the many rooms. Karli
would open the secret room to see an empty room where there are only a few chairs and a table with
words carved into it. On the walls would be pictures that depict robed figures hiding in the trees
with an intricate symbol on top. That would be when Karli remembered her time playing in the
fields where she sees the robed figure pointing its finger at her. She was then taken out of the
reflection when Hideo comes to find her after not responding to her walkie–talkie. Another moment
is when Hideo is in his home taking in a call from an unknown individual asking about the video he
posted on Social Media. The conversation goes back and forth as it leads to a possible opening for
another investigation but it is out of state. Hideo says he'll let them know on what they have decided

Evil : Horror Or Hoax?
"You know evil from experiencing it" ("Amityville: Horror or Hoax")
George Lutz made a very convincing statement about his experiences facing an "evil" presence that
tormented his family which he spoke very in very great detail on an episode of History's Mysteries
documentary show when they featured the show "Amityville: Horror or Hoax. Although it is logical
to assume that the force of evil "is diabolical and preordained reflects a view of the world in which
mysterious, unseen forces are locked in a battle to shape and determine human behavior" it is also a
unique method of bringing some sense of understanding to its existence (Hollander 49) . Evil is

While I sat down to read Charlotte Bronte's 1853 novel Villette, I began to notice some elements
within the context of the work that made me begin to rethink my hypothesis that the Victorians did
not write anything about the supernatural. As a researcher of the paranormal, I was completely and
utterly stunned as to my findings that Villette was indeed a novel filled with references to the realms
of the unearthly. I began to imagine methods by which I can show some connections of supernatural
elements between Charlotte Bronte's Villette and Jay Anson's The Amityville Horror. My obvious
intent of finding the connections between these two works written during two different time periods
seemed to become the focus of my research into something that I found the results of my
investigation to be very intriguing. My proposal for this examination in the essence of understanding
the "evil" presence that surrounds the characters in both Bronte's and Anson's novels is bring forth
some perspectives that may give light as to the cause of these supernatural occurrences in both
works. I would like to investigate into the matter that the character of Lucy Snowe in the Charlotte
Bronte's novel Villette was not only figuratively "haunted" by forces brought on through some kind
of repression because of the limitations of her job as a governess. Lucy's

Lemp Mansion: The Haunted House
Every haunted house usually has a sad or treacherous past. Lemp Mansion is no exception. Declared
as one of the nine most haunted places in America, the Lemp Mansion in St. Louis has its own
history of suicides and untimely deaths. The members of the family had wealth and power yet it
seemed almost like a curse was on the family, causing misery and grief over the years. In 1838,
Johann Adam Lemp settled down in St. Louis and opened a grocery store where he sold home–
brewed beer based on his family recipe. His beer business was a huge success and in just 2 years, his
demand for beer grew so much that he closed his grocery store and opened up a brewery instead. By
1860, Adam introduced his son William into the business. Luckily, William proved to be an even

watching him at work. He thought that there was someone in the hallway outside the room but he
couldn't find out for sure through the frosted glass doors. Claude was so disturbed that he didn't
bother to clean up, wash his brushes or even lock the door behind him when he cleared off abruptly.
Later, he told Richard that the place had a ghost within it. One time, Richard's son Dick was
sleeping alone in the mansion with only his dog, Shadow, a Doberman pinscher for company. Both
Shadow and Dick woke up to a loud bang outside his bedroom door. When they went to look for the

Waverly Hills : Paranormal Encounters
Waverly Hills Sanatorium: Paranormal Encounters Situated on the outskirts of Louisville, KY sits a
famous former tuberculosis hospital. Waverly Hills first became functional in July of 1910 when
tuberculosis, or TB, was deadly and patients affected were isolated from the public. Because it is
close to my small hometown of Carrollton, KY, Waverly is extremely well–known for its
paranormal happenings. Throughout my life, I have always had a relatively strong belief in
paranormal phenomenon. The idea of a paranormal encounter is often foreign until something
unexplainable happens directly to you. Nearly everyone has had at least one experience where there
is no rhyme or reason as to why or how it happened. My first trip to Waverly was in ... Show more

There are many stories that I had heard pertaining to people wailing and screaming due to the agony
they were experiencing from TB, but to witness it was unexplainable. The disease which ailed the
residents of Waverly, was one of a deadly nature. Tuberculosis is an airborne disease that can cause
a severe and persistent cough, chest pain, fatigue, chills, fever, loss of appetite, night sweats, weight
loss, and the coughing up of blood. In the 20th century, TB was the leading cause of death among
Americans ("What is Tuberculosis?"). According to Elisabeth Kubler–Ross, the five stages leading
up to death are denial/isolation, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance (Kubler–Ross). These
five stages are known as the Kubler–Ross model and could provide an explanation as to why people
tend to have paranormal connections as they near the end of their life and why they may never fully
"cross over" after death. Because many of the deaths associated with TB were horrific, it is likely
that the Kubler–Ross model was experienced having minimal time spent in the acceptance stage.
Due to the fear and knowledge not yet attained about the disease, Waverly was made to be its own
community. The official Waverly Hills Sanatorium website states, "Waverly Hills had its own post
office, water treatment facility, grew its own fruits and vegetables, raised its own meat for slaughter
and maintained many of the other necessities of everyday life. Everyone

When you've visited this location, have you ever felt like there was the feel of energy or an extra
presence with you? If you were asking yourself is the R.O.M haunted? The answer to that would be
yes. The first owner of this museum was Charles Currelly, he worked at there for 35 years and
retired in 1946. Charles passed away in 1957, however his spirit has not left the building. The
museum workers have claimed that they have seen Charles wandering around on the main floor in a
nightshirt. Also there has been a museum next door that is now closed because there was apparently
a little girl's spirit who say with the live audience when shows were going on. Ghosts have been a
controversial debate for a while now and there is no scientific proof to their existence. However
many people so seem to have the belief they are out there. People have retold several stories and
personal experiences proving that ghosts are a living thing. If it is proven in the future that the
existence of ghosts are not real, it could be a good thing knowing that there is nothing harmful out

The Legitimacy Of Haunted Houses
Such investigations over the legitimacy of haunted houses have been increasingly correlated
(weather positively or negatively) to that of the theories behind ghosts, phantoms and apparitions
that occupy the air that humans share, along with the clear signs of hauntings as well as how spirits
get attached to a house; Making such ground essential in producing confusion. The differences
between ghosts, phantoms, and apparitions became the focal point in J. Gordon Meltons research,
The Encyclopedia of Occultism and Parapsychology. The word Apparition was derived from the
Latin deviation of apparere (to appear) , which can be interpreted as the perception of any kind of
organism or anything in the world after it's passing from the physical dimension. ... Show more

One infamous theory was constructed by J. Gordon Melton, an American religious scholar, that the
way that hauntings are classified are often objective to the person. This showcases how what one
person might hear as a ghost communicating, others might be hearing nothing but a gust of wind due
to the fact that "sounds below the ordinary limit of audition may be heard objectively although
nobody else is aware of a beginning disturbance....." (Melton.) Such showcases the dangers of
people not taking into account the aduative hyperaesthesia of human beings. The human mind
therefore can interpret a situation in a certain way, differing from person to person, leading to
diverse accounts of the same interaction that in the end causes nothing more but confusion in the
scholarly world as the search goes on for a clear answer. Many have also succumbed to the preys of
other malicious con artists in the world that aspire to make a profit off people's gullibility by
claiming to have the supernatural power to contact those who have passed away from the psychical

Ghost Hunt Research Paper
If you believe in ghosts, you aren't alone. A YouGov survey of about 1,000 people says that 45% of
people believe that ghosts or spirits of the dead can come back and interact with us. It kind of
sounds crazy to believe that people can stick around after they die and even interact with objects in
our world, but so many people swear they have encountered something that they can't explain. I've
always grew up really skeptical of these things. The Idea that spirits stick around with us after death
is an ancient one, and is incorporated into countless literature, from the Bible to "Macbeth". It has
inspired so many different kinds of media like horror movies, ghost stories, and tv shows. I grew up
watching some of these things, and the question always remained in my head: Are ghosts real? I
really wanted to answer that in this senior project. I think I finally have a good answer that I'm going
to stick with. Ghost hunting dates back to the 18th century. Groups like the Society for Psychical

Paranormal phenomena indicates that ghost and demons truly exist in forms of orbs, cold spots,
disembodied voices and growls, and physical attacks. Many of paranormal encounters happen when

Parapsychological Argument
The purpose of science is to work towards furthering our comprehension of how the world around
us works, either by observing certain patterns or collecting empirical evidence with the experimental
method. It has been evidenced that "mainstream science" has rejected parapsychology for decades
now; textbooks ignore the concept of telekinesis, which is the power to move objects with one's
mind (McGreal, 2014), and science agencies have refused to provide funding for scientific research
that studies parapsychology (Alcock, 1987). Although many proponents of parapsychology argue
that scientists must consider all "empirical" evidence with an "open–mind" and that the mere
existence of evidence indicates psi's validity as a science (McGreal, 2014), ... Show more content on

A major principle that the concepts of parapsychology violate is the replicability principle; the main
argument made by sceptics is that, because attempts to reliably replicate initially successful psi
experiments have had a history of repeated failure, parapsychology is not only unconvincing but
also demonstrates an inconsistency that conflicts with the nature of scientific concepts and patterns
about the natural world. In addition to lack of reliable evidence, the concepts and ideas of
parapsychology have not been substantiated with an entity of scientific knowledge containing a
"coherent rationale or framework," and is merely a collection of "anecdotal evidence" (Holroyd,
1997). Parapsychology also violates the extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence
principle; psi is definitely an extraordinary concept, to the point of supernatural, yet there is a very
small amount of substantial or significantly consistent evidence that supports this theory, if any at
all; in fact, existing evidence has been shown to be inconsistent and contradictory. Finally psi is
rejected by the Occam's Razor principle because of the complexity of its topics and subsequent
explanations for its effect, due to the fact that it cannot be supported by any implicit physical or

Summary : ' Ghosts '
In a study done in 2011, 34% of Americans believed in the existence of ghosts, 56% thought 'ghosts'
were spirits of the dead, and 71% believed they had had a paranormal experience at least once
before (LiveScience). The stories are infamous: Bloody Mary, vanishing hitchhikers, stories of
chairs and lamps being flung about by an unseen force; we've heard them since childhood. It has
been wondered why we, as humans, love the feeling of being scared so much. In reality, the answer
is simple: when we're scared, the brain sends signals to our body to release adrenaline, which aids
our 'fight or flight' response–this is the natural instinct to either fight off or flee from something that
may prove dangerous. When we're scared by these 'ghosties, ghoulies, and long–leggedy beasties'–
whether in the form of a scary movie, haunted house, you name it–that adrenaline is still released in
instinct; the catch is that we know we're safe, as it's only a simulation. Basically, we're given a safe
adrenaline rush. So what about ghosts? There are countless claims, horrifying to say the least, of
encounters with malevolent forces. Why do we so desperately want to believe in something that
could potentially do us such great harm? Are these claims even plausible? These questions are posed
for three reasons, depending on the inquirer: to provide security in the idea that there's an afterlife,
to provide security in the effectiveness of today's scientific studies, and to provide security in the

Nonexistence Of Apparition
An Analysis of an Argument for Proving the Nonexistence of Apparitional Events Paranormal
activity has been a hot topic worldwide for decades. Horror movies, novels, and television shows
have been based on myths, legends, and even stories that are claimed to be true. Many debate over
the authenticity of the stories and the existence of apparitions altogether due to the popularity of
these stories. Author Joe Nickell, a stage magician, private investigator, and journalist argues that his
experience with apparitions proves that paranormal accounts are entirely false, specifically
involving notoriously haunted hotels, inns, and other lodgings. He offers several premises to debunk
the ghostly accounts of people worldwide, using quotes and analysis ... Show more content on

While introducing the condition of a daydream, Nickell asserts that "In certain especially
imaginative individuals the mental image might be superimposed upon the visual scene, thus
creating a seemingly apparitional event" (J. Nickell, 2009). If an imaginative person claims to have
a paranormal experience, Nickell is concluding that certain subjective feelings trigger a daydream.
The author illustrates the assumption that those who have encountered apparitions that happen to
have creative minds just witnessed a hallucination. The author attempts to make his audience jump
at this idea. However, there are alternative explanations for these experiences. For example, these
experiences could very well be true. Proving that they are figments of the percipients' imaginations
is impossible. Another assumption the author makes is that the setting of hotels or inns creates a
certain ambience that makes employees and guests more susceptible to having apparitional
experiences. Nickell determines that "'waking–dream' encounters are obviously more likely to be
experienced by hotel guests" while "the reverie or daydream type is often reported by [employees]"
(2009). Not only is an assumption made, but the author also uses the qualifying term "obviously."
Qualifiers serve to limit the claim, and in this case, this tends to weaken Nickell's argument. The
author chooses to make the claim that each of these paranormal events were unequivocally the result
of a waking dream or daydream. Lessening the claim hinders the ethos of the author. His credibility
is damaged because instead of considering the alternative situation, he instead tries to force the
audience into believing that this possibility is impossible. The specific type of fallacy used in
Nickell's argument is a hasty generalization. He presents the descriptions for waking dreams and
daydreams. Since the witnesses of the apparitional events were subject to

An Essay On The Manresa Castle
Manresa Castle looks exactly like a European Castle from the outside, what with its turrets, towers
and old–fashioned windows. This three–storied building which now functions as a hotel has more
things within its premises than what meets the eye. Manresa Castle is more than a hundred years old
and is the haunting place for different spirits.
Back in those days, it was the dream mansion of Charles Eisenbeis and his family. Despite his love
for the castle, Charles could spend no more than ten years here as tragedy struck. First, it was his
son who died. Charles Jr. as a business partner in his father's firm found it difficult to handle his
responsibilities and killed himself in the real estate office. His father, as can be expected, was utterly
shattered. Hardly five years later, Charles died too.
After remaining empty for close to two decades, the castle was finally purchased by Jesuit priests
and converted into a chapel and sleeping rooms for the priests. It was around this time, that another
event is said to have happened. One of the Jesuit priests, in the same sense of frustration that
probably Charles Jr. felt, hung himself in the attic. Much later, it is said in the 1920s, when the castle
became a hotel, a woman called Kate stayed in Room 306. She was waiting for her lover to return
from the sea. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

people think. For many, these arbitrary feelings of extreme familiarity, known as déjà vu, come

The idea of dreams telling the future is still hard to accept for some, but to others it is completely
undeniable. Recent surveys have shown that "déjà vu is encountered more often than any of the

Happenings such as these have only been talked about recently not because they haven't been
around for long, but because society is finally starting to accept the idea that precognition can really
exist. In a review of precognition in 1997, Barbara Brennan came to the conclusion that "it appears
that there are really far more instances of precognition than is commonly realized. So many, in fact,
that the phenomenon may be almost universal. The reason we are largely unaware of this is that
most precognition occurs in dreams" (Funkhouser). It is not something that just happens to a select

Essay on Exploring the Existence of Paranormal Activity
Whether we choose to believe in the paranormal or not, we all have to realize that there are many
strange things that happen to all of us that are unexplainable. The history of paranormal existence
has been around since the beginning of time. The paranormal is not what most people believe it is,
"ghosts". There is a wide range in what is considered paranormal. In order to understand the
paranormal you must first understand the meaning of the word. The prefix "Para" means beyond and
normal. This gets you the result of beyond normal. Just because science cannot prove it, does not
mean that it is paranormal. In fact, as you read on you will discover that science does back up
paranormal existence quite a bit. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not to say that they are not signs of spirits, because an orb is a manifested sphere of energy.
Sometimes they are visible by the human eye but most of the time they are only viewable through
photographic lenses. Energy is plain and simple, "energy" everything you see and touch has energy
in it no matter what it is. Take the elements for example. Earth, wind, water, and fire. These
elements have mass amounts of energy that some people attempt to harness for their own good.
Such as making a Psy ball in the palm of their hand. "Psy" pronounced sigh is the act of making an
orb in your hand. It's not evil or fake. I have read many cases of this event. There are people that
practice pyrokinesis and it is not the Hollywood classic of people making huge balls of fire and
throwing them at things burning them to the ground. It is more or less drawing the energy from the
fire and using it whether it be to create a psy ball or to get in touch with yourself. You can find
energy in music. Have you ever witnessed somebody playing an instrument closing their eyes and
enjoying it to the fullest? I know it happens to me all the time. I feel at one with the guitar. Just
feeling the vibrations from the wood go from your fingertips up to your arm and throughout your
body. Next time you are watching somebody who takes great passion in their music, watch what

The Importance Of Paranormal Activity
Did you know that according to Michael Lipka, 18% of Americans say that they have seen a ghost.
Paranormal activity is a highly debatable topic about Paranormal events that happen. It is relevant
because people will know if it's a possibility that their witnessing/experiencing paranormal activity.
A second reason why it's relevant is if people are experiencing this they will know what's happening
and know how to get rid of it/them and stay safe. There are lots of controversy and theories about
paranormal activity for example saying it's your brain and it's not real. Paranormal activity is real.
Three claims on why paranormal activity is real are stories, movies/documentaries, and scientific
evidence. Stories prove that paranormal activity is real. Stories show that it's happened before to
people. Paranormal activity can happen to anyone and happen anywhere. A family friend said, "Our
younger boy Connor came down and asked me Mom, who's the old man upstairs with a blanket

mysteries that have formed the haunted landscape of our shared country and cultural experience and
have formed the basis of the themes and motifs examined in this work" (Fitch 8). In "Paranormal
National" Marc E. Fitch, talks about the history of paranormal activities that occurred in the United
States. Since the ancient times, people all around the world has seen ghosts or assumed haunted
places dwells with ghosts or spirits. With the help of television shows, horror movies, and stories,
people around the world are consumed by the "facts" that made them believe an urban legend about
ghosts turning into true stories. "Nobody has been able to prove ... Show more content on

The answer is rather quite simple. The human's mind has been evolving for millenniums and we
continue to evolve and adapt to the current situation. Michael Shermer, the founder of Skeptic
Magazine, said "Our brains, he says, have evolved to find meaningful patterns around us" (57).
Shermer's words meant that the human race is smart enough to determine whether the things people
believe in can be scientifically proven or it is completely phony. Stated in "The Paranormal" by
Erich Goode, those who believe "in miracles, in heaven and hell as actual places, in angels and the
devil as actual physical beings, and in creationism violates what scientists know about how the
universe works; this is what defines these beliefs as paranormal" (Goode 216). Those who believes
in those things listed in Goode's book, are considered paranormal because there are no evidence that
proves or shows where heaven and hell is located and no scientific evidence proves that angels and
the devil are real. In Melissa Pollak's, "Belief in Paranormal Phenomena Is Unscientific", she
informed her audience that women believe in paranormal phenomena more than men. "More women
than men believe in ESP (especially telepathy and precognition), astrology; hauntings, and psychic
healing. On the other hand, men have stronger beliefs in UFOs and bizarre life forms, for example
the Loch Ness monster" (Pollak

The Effects Of Paranormal Activity On The Forest
A small, five–year–old girl enters the Hoia Baciu Forest, only to get lost and not to return for five
years, when she is ten years old. When she returns, she is still wearing the same dress as the day that
she got lost in the forest and surprisingly it is still in good condition. The young girl cannot recall
what happened when she was lost inside the forest for the past five years and as a result, became a
dark person because she was lost in the forest (Swancer). This is only one of many of the strange
events of paranormal activity claimed to be inside of the Hoia Baciu Forest. Other hair–raising
events that take place in the Hoia Baciu Forest includes Unidentified Flying Objects (UFO)
sightings, physical harm inside of the forest, a dead vegetation zone, sightings of apparitions,
electronic malfunctions, and random bright lights. These events and even more make this forest
known as the "Bermuda Triangle of Romania" ("Haunted Forest"). The Hoia Baciu Forest is
probably not haunted due to the history, lack of proof, and poor research of paranormal activity
inside the forest. The Hoia Baciu Forest is located in the Cluj County of Transylvania, Romania. The
location of the forest is the basis for other paranormal activity such as vampires and the legend of
Dracula originated in Transylvania, Romania. Although the forest only covers about a square mile, it
has a very long history of strange and paranormal events. The forest was named after a shepherd

Aokigahara's Suicide Forest Analysis
It was his job. He was the who had to show no fear, to not let his bones rattle him to the core, to let
his voice falter and crack in the middle of his job. To never waiver when death is in the air, creeping
around, surrounding his body in the aura of it's presence. When the stench of the past lingers and
even communicates with him, it was routine for him. After all, it was his job; although sometimes he
felt it was too much for him, but he loved the adrenaline it induced. When it coursed through his
veins, he felt alive; more alive than anything around him. In this case, it was true because as a
paranormal investigator, a number of people did not see this profession as a true profession due to
their unbelief in the paranormal, while the other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As he gathers his equipment and gets ready, it still crosses his mind on what will happen in the
forest, but he proceeds anyways. He acquires a rental car and drives over an hour to the forest,
parking close by outside. He gets his backpack on with all of his equipment and takes a good look at
the forest. He looks left and sees no end to the treeline, even looking to the right and getting the
same result. The trees were so packed and the top of the trees formed a dark green thick layer,
rejecting the presence of light in the forest. Even standing outside of the forest, he could feel the
presence of what he thought to remain. He didn't understand what he was feeling, but it was like the
sense of someone watching him. He walks closer to the forest, backpack on back, video camera in
hand, and with one on top of his head also. Before entering the forest he spots a sign. It's in Japanese
but he knows what it says, he reads it as, "If you've come to commit suicide, please leave and get
help. We're tired of cleaning up bodies." Thinking to himself, he decides this place must have an
extensive amount of people's spirits left behind from suicide. Shuffling his feet further he enters the
forest, walking along the designated path many people have walked before, observing what he can.
He notices the tape

  • 3. Ghosts Are The Spirits Of The Dead Specter, spirit, banshee, poltergeist, apparition, phantom, or spook, call them what you wish, but the general most common term for these creatures are ghosts. The word "ghost" has many connotations connected to it in the American culture. One could mean the scary or friendly fictional ghosts of Halloween or one could mean the more serious and controversial creature, the spirit of a dead person stuck in between earth and the afterlife. Even if one doesn't believe in them, one is very likely to encounter one in the American culture, whether it is through knowing people who believe they have encountered ghosts, or through media such as movies or books. Ghosts have been entangled in our history and culture. There are so many different definitions and views on these creatures. Thus the issue of the cultural importance of ghosts in America is unresolved because of entertainment views, scientific evidence or lack of, and religious views. From a traditional stand point, ghosts are the spirits of the dead. Stephen Wagner from About.com claims that ghosts are a common part of the human experience. In his article, "Ghosts: What Are They?", Wagner categorizes the common views of ghosts. The first is that they are the spirits of dead people that for some reason are stuck between this world and the next, usually due to the result of a tragedy or trauma (Wagner 1). Another type of ghost is what Wagner labels residual hauntings or recordings, ghosts that appear to be mere recordings on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Persuasive Essay On Ghosts Have you ever driven on the road and spotted an abandoned, creepy, old building – whether it's an old factory, hospital, or house – and hearing that it was haunted by the people who once lived there? Well, in some places you'll find that there are still quite of bit of these buildings around; some being used as historical locations while others are being used as a functioning house. But when it all comes down to ghost and spirits, people, of course, have different opinions and beliefs on the subject. Some people, for example, say that ghost don't exist and are just used to scare people, especially around Halloween. While other people strongly believe in life after death and provide scientific evidence to back up their claims. She will often call out to certain people, pulling them into her arms and into her service. I know, because she chose me to help save her and I am not alone. When I first came to St. Albans I was working with merchandising. At that time I was afraid of the dark hallways and empty rooms of the old asylum. I quickly overcame my fear of the place and it was replaced by a love of the building and what it had meant for so many who had come before me. We are its caretakers. Those of us, both paid and volunteer who strive to keep the doors open to a place worth saving, a place that was once the caretaker to so many within its care. Those of us who are now here carry on the vision of people like Don Hanauer, former Director of Operations for St. Albans. He saw the beauty in this building and had a vision of restoring it to its former glory. As outlined in the final chapter of this book, we have worked on a number of special events developed to generate funding for the structure's restoration. At some point, Don's vision for St. Albans became mine. After Don left I knew that I would need to lead the effort to take the sanatorium from disrepair back into wholeness. The beauty and Spirit of this historic landmark now draws paranormal investigators from all over America and beyond, to walk the hallways with the intent of encountering its remaining residents. Scientists, researchers, and analysts have and are still trying to find logical solutions for unnatural things occurring. Parapsychology is a subject that sparks the interests of people all over the world and accurate analysis of it is yet to be found. Parapsychological Association (2011) says, "Parapsychology is the scientific and scholarly study of three kinds of unusual events (ESP, mind–matter interaction, and survival), which are associated with human experience...The existence of these phenomena suggests the strict subjective/objective dichotomy proposed by the old paradigm may not be quite as clear–cut as once ... A recent studied revealed most Americans believe in reincarnation. When it comes to the unnatural side of things, people tend not to believe in it unless there is scientific proof. To deny the existence of reincarnation because there is no concrete proof is unfair because many other spiritual and religious teachings have yet to be proven but there is so much belief in such things (The Question of Reincarnation: Part One, 2001). The Question of Reincarnation says, "The fact of reincarnation makes more sense and is more in line with natural law than the myth of it", the reasons were because, "Reincarnation follows the universal Law of Cycles; Reincarnation is a wonderful demonstration of God's grace and our ability to correct that which needs to be corrected; It seems inconceivable that we can master the lower aspects of the personality in one earthly lifetime; and Reincarnation helps explain the appearance of evil in a world guided by a loving God" (2001). 3 Accounts I Watched Myself Being Buried Years ago when Lauren was 13 or 14, she was watching a ghost– hunter show when a random wave of ... Paranormal experiences happen randomly, they don't just happen when you want them to but if you make yourself believe you're being haunted and you're really not. Not everyone believes ghost exist, they say they're fake and made up, which I can see there points but with so many people experiences these things, doesn't make them liars. "Of the 1,000 adults interviewed Dec. 17–18, the HuffPost/YouGov poll revealed 45 percent believe in ghosts, or that the spirits of dead people can come back in certain places and situations. When asked if they believe there's a life after death, 64 percent responded Yes. While 59 percent of adults don't believe they've ever actually seen a ghost, 43 percent also don't think that ghosts or spirits can harm or interact with living people."(Huffpost) This right here shows that people go somewhere when they die and don't all just go to ... Literature Review The role of non–evidence based beliefs on anti–vaccination–Literature Review Student Name: Institution: Introduction Anti–vaccination proponents have largely embedded their energies in promoting doubt in parents, instructing forms of biomedical fear while capitalizing on their spiritual and paranormal belief naivety to enforce the same. These approaches are ensured to make it possible that even with any increase in people's knowledge and evidence, their rational strength over anti–vaccine movements become a myriad.[Lewandowsky et al. 2013] Decision making becomes a weak thing to do because by looking at both ends, things seem to parallel each other. According to Kasarda [2013] Dr. Wakefield is regarded as the father of the anti–vaccination movement in the world. Deep into the nation, controversies began to grow stronger, and these led to the development of Australian Vaccination Network (AVN) which has given many parents a voice to express their sentiments. In 2013, there was an article on AVN website that was critically opposing the monopolistic attitude doctors show patients in matters to do with vaccines. In that, doctors and their professional bodies such as AMA and the RACGP and government officials need to express total truth to citizens about vaccines [Australian Vaccination Network, 2013]. Their totalitarian stance over vaccine administration is increasing skepticism and mistrust in parents. Parents see this as a way for these individuals to maintain healthcare monopoly while at the same time failing to reveal to them the truth about safety and effectiveness of the vaccines [Australian Vaccination Network, 2013]. Further, AVN sought to clarify that western economies report an increase of disabled and autistic children in the population. They're not very well understood. You don't know what they want from you. So it's the kind of thing you don't even know how to defend yourself against. Anything that's unknown and mysterious is very scary.'" Controversial topics range from global tragedies to the newest video game. One that has lived for centuries, is whether or not the supernatural and paranormal exist. Like every discussion, there are believers, and there are skeptics. Scientists tend to be the skeptics, while those with an adventurous mind tend to be those who believe that some other–world being exist. Scientists use experimentation to give explanations as to why someone would have a paranormal experience, and most have been successful in what they were proving, but those who are believers also give excellent points to why their experiences have no scientific proof with them making it hard to choose a side. Since the dawn of time, there were ghosts, and every person has their own belief, but many might not know for sure because of the variety of explanations. French from the University of London calls belief in ghosts a "misinterpretation of natural phenomena" (French, October 2014, para 1). He explains that from a psychological perspective, it is almost impossible to believe in such an idea. Modern neuroscience has concluded that no consciousness could survive ... Lying in bed in the middle of the night while sleep eludes me, a noise breaks through the silence. Oh my God! What was that!? Maybe it was just my imagination, or maybe it was just the house settling. There it is again! I must be hearing things. I get cold and my body starts to shiver uncontrollably. I peek to where the sound comes from and I could swear I see something through the dark room; it appears even darker than the surrounding area. Oh my! I think it just moved. Samhain is a festival that is celebrated from October 31st to November 2nd. Samhain is a time of the year that celebrates the last harvest before the winter comes, and is dedicated to the "Lord of the Dead" (Guiley 19). The Celt's believe that the dead will come out of their final resting place and mess with the crops. Also, it is believed that communication with the dead is easier during Samhain. It is said that the veil that separates the living from the dead is at its thinnest during this time. The Lord of the Dead holds a sentencing of spirits, where if they were good they can exist in the form of a human, and if they were bad, the form of an animal. Offerings of food and drink are made to the Lord of the Dead so he would not be so severe in his sentencing. Many Celt's would dress up on Samhain to confuse the spirits that were roaming around so they wouldn't stop, but continue to pass them by (Guiley 19). • 25. Literary Analysis Of The American Gothic Genre The American Gothic Genre, which focuses on the paranormal aspects of life, began in the 1700s and is still used today. Kelly Link is the author of "The Specialist's Hat", and the author of many literary collections. She's received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and has co– edited a number of anthologies. She uses imagery, intimidating diction, and literary devices to convey the emotion and theme of snakes, hollowness, and death in this story. From the start, "The Specialist's Hat" lures you in with an eerie ambience. The tale plays on some macabre facet of the simplicity of childhood. It is focalized around a game that the twins play, known as the Dead game, with a capital D. When you're Dead, you can do anything you want without fear, like in a fantasy. When you're dead with a lowercase d, you are truly dead, lifeless. The twins started playing this Dead game 8 days after their mother died. My favorite part of Kelly's writing is just how well she can weave two parallel narratives with a climax whose sense of dread is derived from a sort of subtle asymmetry between the two. The American Gothic Genre typically shows guilt, puritanism, supernatural beings and/ or events, fear of the unknown, unheimlich, anxieties, and rationality vs irrationality. Mysteries, intense emotion, romance, heroes, evil curses, and gloomy, decaying isolated settings such as castles and mansions are also characteristics of this genre. There is an evil tone throughout the work. Freud ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We've used religion, science, stories, and theories, anything we could come up with to explain life's mysteries. One subject of interest that we are all still stumped on are things classified as paranormal. Paranormal activity is a very debatable topic, with some saying ghosts and poltergeists are as real as you and me, while others try to explain the weird happenings as something natural. Even if one believes in the paranormal or not, the subject is, to say the least, very interesting. One of these places that is famous for its ghostly visitors is the Tower of London, located in The London Borough of Tower Hamlets, England. That means you have many to choose from this coming holiday. The average big house, a professional house with a substantial run time, draws in at least 300 patrons a night. Yet, with the millions of participants every year, I would confidently say that less than half, if even that, are really getting the most out of the experience. Worry not, for i have prepared all that you need to know about having the best experience that you can. The first step to really enjoying a haunt, is to make sure you choose the right one. If you've never been to a haunted house, you should look up the ones in your area online. Each big house should have it's own website, complete with both videos and reviews. The only huge downside with these is that they're extremely expensive. The cheap versions are about $200 to $300, while the quality ones can be anywhere from $1,500 to $50,000. • 55. Parapsychological Argument The purpose of science is to work towards furthering our comprehension of how the world around us works, either by observing certain patterns or collecting empirical evidence with the experimental method. It has been evidenced that "mainstream science" has rejected parapsychology for decades now; textbooks ignore the concept of telekinesis, which is the power to move objects with one's mind (McGreal, 2014), and science agencies have refused to provide funding for scientific research that studies parapsychology (Alcock, 1987). Although many proponents of parapsychology argue that scientists must consider all "empirical" evidence with an "open–mind" and that the mere existence of evidence indicates psi's validity as a science (McGreal, 2014), ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A major principle that the concepts of parapsychology violate is the replicability principle; the main argument made by sceptics is that, because attempts to reliably replicate initially successful psi experiments have had a history of repeated failure, parapsychology is not only unconvincing but also demonstrates an inconsistency that conflicts with the nature of scientific concepts and patterns about the natural world. In addition to lack of reliable evidence, the concepts and ideas of parapsychology have not been substantiated with an entity of scientific knowledge containing a "coherent rationale or framework," and is merely a collection of "anecdotal evidence" (Holroyd, 1997). Parapsychology also violates the extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence principle; psi is definitely an extraordinary concept, to the point of supernatural, yet there is a very small amount of substantial or significantly consistent evidence that supports this theory, if any at all; in fact, existing evidence has been shown to be inconsistent and contradictory. Finally psi is rejected by the Occam's Razor principle because of the complexity of its topics and subsequent explanations for its effect, due to the fact that it cannot be supported by any implicit physical or biological ... • 57. Summary : ' Ghosts ' In a study done in 2011, 34% of Americans believed in the existence of ghosts, 56% thought 'ghosts' were spirits of the dead, and 71% believed they had had a paranormal experience at least once before (LiveScience). The stories are infamous: Bloody Mary, vanishing hitchhikers, stories of chairs and lamps being flung about by an unseen force; we've heard them since childhood. It has been wondered why we, as humans, love the feeling of being scared so much. In reality, the answer is simple: when we're scared, the brain sends signals to our body to release adrenaline, which aids our 'fight or flight' response–this is the natural instinct to either fight off or flee from something that may prove dangerous. When we're scared by these 'ghosties, ghoulies, and long–leggedy beasties'– whether in the form of a scary movie, haunted house, you name it–that adrenaline is still released in instinct; the catch is that we know we're safe, as it's only a simulation. Basically, we're given a safe adrenaline rush. So what about ghosts? There are countless claims, horrifying to say the least, of encounters with malevolent forces. Why do we so desperately want to believe in something that could potentially do us such great harm? Are these claims even plausible? These questions are posed for three reasons, depending on the inquirer: to provide security in the idea that there's an afterlife, to provide security in the effectiveness of today's scientific studies, and to provide security in the ... • 59. Nonexistence Of Apparition An Analysis of an Argument for Proving the Nonexistence of Apparitional Events Paranormal activity has been a hot topic worldwide for decades. Horror movies, novels, and television shows have been based on myths, legends, and even stories that are claimed to be true. Many debate over the authenticity of the stories and the existence of apparitions altogether due to the popularity of these stories. Author Joe Nickell, a stage magician, private investigator, and journalist argues that his experience with apparitions proves that paranormal accounts are entirely false, specifically involving notoriously haunted hotels, inns, and other lodgings. He offers several premises to debunk the ghostly accounts of people worldwide, using quotes and analysis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While introducing the condition of a daydream, Nickell asserts that "In certain especially imaginative individuals the mental image might be superimposed upon the visual scene, thus creating a seemingly apparitional event" (J. Nickell, 2009). If an imaginative person claims to have a paranormal experience, Nickell is concluding that certain subjective feelings trigger a daydream. The author illustrates the assumption that those who have encountered apparitions that happen to have creative minds just witnessed a hallucination. The author attempts to make his audience jump at this idea. However, there are alternative explanations for these experiences. For example, these experiences could very well be true. Proving that they are figments of the percipients' imaginations is impossible. Another assumption the author makes is that the setting of hotels or inns creates a certain ambience that makes employees and guests more susceptible to having apparitional experiences. Nickell determines that "'waking–dream' encounters are obviously more likely to be experienced by hotel guests" while "the reverie or daydream type is often reported by [employees]" (2009). Not only is an assumption made, but the author also uses the qualifying term "obviously." Qualifiers serve to limit the claim, and in this case, this tends to weaken Nickell's argument. The author chooses to make the claim that each of these paranormal events were unequivocally the result of a waking dream or daydream. Lessening the claim hinders the ethos of the author. His credibility is damaged because instead of considering the alternative situation, he instead tries to force the audience into believing that this possibility is impossible. The specific type of fallacy used in Nickell's argument is a hasty generalization. He presents the descriptions for waking dreams and daydreams. This three–storied building which now functions as a hotel has more things within its premises than what meets the eye. Manresa Castle is more than a hundred years old and is the haunting place for different spirits. Back in those days, it was the dream mansion of Charles Eisenbeis and his family. Despite his love for the castle, Charles could spend no more than ten years here as tragedy struck. First, it was his son who died. Charles Jr. as a business partner in his father's firm found it difficult to handle his responsibilities and killed himself in the real estate office. His father, as can be expected, was utterly shattered. Hardly five years later, Charles died too. After remaining empty for close to two decades, the castle was finally purchased by Jesuit priests and converted into a chapel and sleeping rooms for the priests. It was around this time, that another event is said to have happened. One of the Jesuit priests, in the same sense of frustration that probably Charles Jr. felt, hung himself in the attic. Much later, it is said in the 1920s, when the castle became a hotel, a woman called Kate stayed in Room 306. She was waiting for her lover to return from the sea. ... This is an experience that is not as rare as most people think. For many, these arbitrary feelings of extreme familiarity, known as déjà vu, come through dreams that some say predict the future. Happenings such as these have only been talked about recently not because they haven't been around for long, but because society is finally starting to accept the idea that precognition can really exist. In a review of precognition in 1997, Barbara Brennan came to the conclusion that "it appears that there are really far more instances of precognition than is commonly realized. So many, in fact, that the phenomenon may be almost universal. The reason we are largely unaware of this is that most precognition occurs in dreams" (Funkhouser). Essay on Exploring the Existence of Paranormal Activity Whether we choose to believe in the paranormal or not, we all have to realize that there are many strange things that happen to all of us that are unexplainable. The history of paranormal existence has been around since the beginning of time. The paranormal is not what most people believe it is, "ghosts". There is a wide range in what is considered paranormal. In order to understand the paranormal you must first understand the meaning of the word. The prefix "Para" means beyond and normal. Sometimes they are visible by the human eye but most of the time they are only viewable through photographic lenses. Energy is plain and simple, "energy" everything you see and touch has energy in it no matter what it is. Take the elements for example. Earth, wind, water, and fire. These elements have mass amounts of energy that some people attempt to harness for their own good. Such as making a Psy ball in the palm of their hand. "Psy" pronounced sigh is the act of making an orb in your hand. It's not evil or fake. I have read many cases of this event. There are people that practice pyrokinesis and it is not the Hollywood classic of people making huge balls of fire and throwing them at things burning them to the ground. It is more or less drawing the energy from the fire and using it whether it be to create a psy ball or to get in touch with yourself. You can find energy in music. Paranormal activity is a highly debatable topic about Paranormal events that happen. It is relevant because people will know if it's a possibility that their witnessing/experiencing paranormal activity. A second reason why it's relevant is if people are experiencing this they will know what's happening and know how to get rid of it/them and stay safe. There are lots of controversy and theories about paranormal activity for example saying it's your brain and it's not real. Paranormal activity is real. Three claims on why paranormal activity is real are stories, movies/documentaries, and scientific evidence. Stories prove that paranormal activity is real. Stories show that it's happened before to people. Paranormal activity can happen to anyone and happen anywhere. The human's mind has been evolving for millenniums and we continue to evolve and adapt to the current situation. Michael Shermer, the founder of Skeptic Magazine, said "Our brains, he says, have evolved to find meaningful patterns around us" (57). Shermer's words meant that the human race is smart enough to determine whether the things people believe in can be scientifically proven or it is completely phony. Stated in "The Paranormal" by Erich Goode, those who believe "in miracles, in heaven and hell as actual places, in angels and the devil as actual physical beings, and in creationism violates what scientists know about how the universe works; this is what defines these beliefs as paranormal" (Goode 216). Those who believes in those things listed in Goode's book, are considered paranormal because there are no evidence that proves or shows where heaven and hell is located and no scientific evidence proves that angels and the devil are real.
