Dea Butterfly Birth
The Birth of A Butterfly In the beginning, the goddess Dea was alone. She did not like being alone.
As time passed by her dislike for loneliness turned to hate, and her hate turned to despair. She
thought she'd be alone, and from her grief a ball of rock was formed. She did not notice the ball and
continued to wallow in her despair. Her tears fell onto the earth creating oceans, rivers, and lakes.
When she noticed the ball of rock covered in water her grief turned to curiosity. From Dea's
curiosity grew a flower, the first flower. As the flower grew, so did her curiosity. As it increased
more plants started to grow. Trees grew in cluster creating wide forests. Coral flourished in the reefs
and lone cacti grew from sand. Her curiosity grew to wonder. Then out from forests came animals of
all sizes and shape; Bears, buffalo, lions, rabbits, deer, eagles. They all came from the forest and
spread out across the ball. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She grew happy and joyful, and from her happiness came the sun. The sun was little and at first was
nothing more than a spark. However, as time passed by and her joy and love for these creatures
flourished, the spark grew to a mighty blaze. This blaze cast warmth upon the ball and its
inhabitants, reminding them of Dea's love. As time passed, Dea grew bored. She looked down upon
the creatures and the plants and thought something was missing. She realized that all the animals
and plants look just like the rest of their kind. Dea thought they need to look unique and

Descriptive Essay On Softball
Laura is a nice, shy, smart girl and she loves to play all kinds of sports like volleyball and basketball,
but her most favorite sport of all is softball. Today is Laura's first softball game she is excited and
nervous at the same time, and all day all she could think about is what if I throw the ball the wrong
way or what if I make a terrible throw or can't catch the ball when the ball was being thrown right to
her glove. Laura is also thinking about all of the good things that could happen too like she gets the
last out or she scores a homerun with the bases loaded. With all of these emotions Laura is having a
hard time concentrating at school and doesn't get a to good of a grade on an assignment. Then when
one of Laura's friends Riley walks up to her to ask Laura what is wrong she said that the same thing
was happening to her to so that made them both feel better about everything knowing that they
weren't the only ones feeling that way. When school was over Riley went over to Laura's house so
they could practice a little bit before their game and they both practiced really well and that made
them more confident and ready to play but Laura was still nervous because she didn't want to do
anything really embarrassing at their game in Trenton. It has been an hour and Laura and Riley were
off to the Trenton field to play softball. When they finally arrived they were the first ones there
because Laura's dad was one of the coaches, so they went down to look at the field and it

Personal Narrative: Phoenixville
It was the last game of the season. We had won every single game except for one. Our team had tied
with Phoenixville, and today was the day that we would beat Phoenixville. Almost every day of the
week we would show up for practice for 2 hours, and we have improved by a lot.
Our game was in Phoenixville at the school, and the game was away. It was not the best day to play
a game, but our team was ready. Clouds filled the sky making it look like it was going to rain. The
ground was a little muddy from rained yesterday, and the sky was turning a shade of grey.
"You got this. Don't give up no matter how tough the game gets. You're ready."My coach said to me.

Great job Samantha!" The other team's parents had yelled. They stood up and cheered as teammates
from her team gathered around her patting her on the back. They made their way to the middle of
the field giving the ball to my team.
" It's ok Amanda! You got this!" My coach had said. The ref blew her whistle indicating we can
start. Maddie passed the ball to raina who passed it to maggie, making their way up the field towards
the other goal. One of the girls from the other team stole the ball and came at me.
" Come on! Come on!" The parents from the other team screamed. I got really nervous, I knew my
team was ready, they just had to push their limits. Everyone looked so tired on my team, and some
on the other. But the one girl with the ball did not slow down. I remember the last game we tied with
them. The same girl that was coming at me now was the girl who shot the last goal. She always shot
in the right corner, but she kept switching it when she scored that last goal. It happened the last 30
seconds of that game, and when she shot it last game, I knew I couldn't let that happen again.

Personal Narrative-My First Soccer Player
It is eight in the morning and today is the final soccer game of the season. The season coming to an
end is a bittersweet feeling. The game starts at nine, but coach wanted us there early to warm up
before the game. We are taking a bus to the field. Everyone is in the zone, so the bus is completely
silent. On our way to the game I am listening to music trying to get my mind in the right place. We
were going to go against the best team in the state. To some people it is just a game, but to my team
and I this is the modern day World War 2.
As we approach the field that's when the whispers start from the team. The bus comes to a
screeching halt. We walk off the bus still in silence. As we walk towards the field, we see the other
team. They were bigger than us, stronger than us, their team had more players than what we had, but
that didn't matter to me. We take 15 minutes to warm up before the game making sure get our blood

I silently watched my neighborhood go about through the window as I sat in the car, tapping my

My dad was very fond of the idea of me wanting to do soccer when I had first brought it up... and
now I was finally going to my first game. Once we had arrived to the park that the game was going
to take place in, we unbuckled our seat belts, and quickly exit the car. I walked alongside with my
dad towards the field. When we got there, my dad set up his chair, and I waited beside him. We
looked like we were early. "I'm so excited!" I exclaimed to my dad. My dad replied with a smile,
"So am I! Hopefully, your team wins.. make sure to do your best!" "You know I'm not as good as
most of the people on my team.. but I do try," I laughed. Me and my dad would wait until everyone
arrived. When they did, my dad would tell me to go to the field. "Good luck!" he said. I thanked him
and would quickly run to our side of the field, meeting up with my coach and my team. "Erin, hi!"
my teammate, Cassidy greeted me. I would say hi back, and would talk to her as we all did practice

Introduction: Soccer, which is also known as "football", is a worldwide sport. The game of soccer is
made up with 11 players on each side, where the objective is to score the most goals. The game of
soccer is a very physical and aggressive sport. All players play rough and they're hardest the entire
90 minutes of the game. The soccer field must be rectangular and between 50–100 yards wide and
100–130 yards long. The sidelines and end lines mark when the ball is out of play. There is a goal on
each side of the field, surrounded by white netting. The goal is 8 feet high and 24 feet wide. Soccer

baseball, it will be played in the 2020 Olympics after nnot being in the calendar in the last two

Softball uses a larger ball and is played on a smaller field. It was invented in Chicago, Illinois,
United States in 1887. The game went through various names including mush ball, kitten ball and
playground ball. In 1926, it was finally called softball.
In the beginning, softball had a variety of rules. To resolve the differences, a rules committee was

Analysis Of Carolyn Gardner, 12 Year Old Beginner...
My subject and person that I chose to perform this movement is Carolyn Gardner, 12–year–old
beginner basketball player in the sixth grade. She is on the junior varsity team and this is her first
time playing basketball on a team. This is her first time playing any team sport. Right now she is
learning the basics and having a hard time focusing but that is expected being her first year. The
reason I chose Carolyn is because since this is her first time playing basketball on a team and her
first sport, there is no muscle memory developed as of yet. I can analyze her foul shot and
movements and see raw unrehearsed kinetics of her movements.
The methods of data collection I will use to analyze Carolyn's movement skills in the fouls shot are
a digital camcorder recording of sagittal plane of her dominant side, also frontal plane view. I will
use Coaches Eye, a video recording application. Three times will be recorded for analysis. I also will
physically record on a chart. My limitations will be the environment because I will have to conduct
this analysis outside of a gym, so I will not have a basketball hoop but I will have a goal for Carolyn
to aim for. With this data that I will apply it to what I have researched about gaining and practicing
the best skill for the ultimate performance. Then I will have my subject Carolyn practice and then re
analyze her movement's.
The analyzed movement will be the basketball free throw shot. I have found peer reviewed articles

Example Of Observation Of Basketball
For my second observation I went back to my elementary school from when I was younger and
observed a second grade physical education class and their teacher Mrs. McFarland. It was a rainy
day so the lesson was held in the cafeteria. I observed Mrs. McFarland teach the first lesson of
basketball to her class, before class she told me that this would be the first lesson of a 6 part lesson.
When the students walked into the cafeteria they immediately sat down in their assigned spots on
the floor, Mrs. McFarland stood up at the front of the room by the stage area and all the students.
When all the students were seated Mrs. McFarland gave a very brief explanation on what the
students would be doing that day and then they started with a warm up. During the warm up the
students started out galloping around the room to music and when the music stop she would shout of
jumping jacks and the students would do jumping jacks until the music came back on. They did this
warm up for about 5 minutes and then went back to their spots and sat down. Mrs. McFarland went
back to the front of the cafeteria and began to talk to the students about what they would be doing.
She gave a demonstration of the triple threat position and then asked the students some questions
about what they saw her just do. Next, she had the children grab their our balls and come back to
their spot so that they could practice some ball handling drills. They used their finger tips to ping
pong the ball from hand to hand,

Passer To Play Volleyball
A new sport was invented by William Morgan in 1895. "Morgan was an instructor at a YMCA and
blended elements of basketball, baseball, tennis, and handball to create this new sport." (Evdokimoff
2011) Since the ball was "volleyed" over a net, it soon became known as volleyball. According to
Evdokimoff, the first official game was played at Massachusetts College in 1896. Volleyball is
considered an easy sport to those who have never played; however, it involves many skills, much
determination, and constant communication. On the offensive end, passing is the first thing that
must be done.
In order for the setter to set the ball, the passer must make a good pass. The passer has to judge
whether or not the serve or the hit is in or out. Next, a passer will move his or her body behind the
ball. While staying low, the passer then turns his or her shoulders towards the target, the setter. It ...

The hitter's first job is to try to block the opposing team's attack. Then the hitter must get off the net
and be ready for the set. If the ball does not come, the hitter must cover the person who is hitting. In
an attacking situation, the hitter must jump, make contact with the ball at its highest peak, and snap
the wrist. In volleyball, all players have a specific job, but must rely on each other to get individual
jobs done. Communication is the biggest key to a good volleyball team. First, a passer must call the
ball if able to make the pass. If players do not talk and claim the ball, it may hit the floor. Also, the
setter has to tell his or her teammates if he or she can get to the second hit. Finally, everyone who is
not hitting should talk to the hitter. It is imperative to share where to place the hit, if tipping is a
better option, and how many blockers there are. Miscommunication could cost the team a point or
even the game. The game of volleyball is all about working as a team and

How to Become an Effective Hitter Essay
How to Become an Effective Hitter
Babe Ruth is known for his 714 home runs. However, few people realize the other statistic he holds,
which is having the most strikeouts of any player in the major league. This statistic helps to prove
there is only a slight difference between a good hit and a strike. To become a good hitter in baseball,
three fundamentals are necessary. First, the batter's stance in the batter's box, second, the batter's eye
contact on the ball, and third, the batter's swing are the three fundamentals a good hitter will
possess.
First, a good stance in the batter's box is required to hit the ball successfully. The stance is not only
important to the hitter, but it informs the defense of the location of ... Show more content on

The knees should not be locked but slightly bent. For example, when I hit, I usually foul a ball down
the first or third base line so the outfielders move accordingly. In our final game of the season
against Middle Georgia College in Cochran when I played softball in college, however, the right
fielder was positioned way off the first base line towards second base. She was reading my even
stance as I was trying to hit the ball up the middle or over second base. She was wrong. At the last
minute, I changed my stance as the ball was coming and hit it right down the first base line. A good
stance is important to becoming a productive hitter.
Second, no matter how perfect the stance, unless a batter has good eye contact, a high batting
average will never be possible. A pitcher can put a large number of different spins on the ball. For
example, the curve ball, the slider, the fast ball, and the knuckle ball move differently. A batter needs
to watch the ball from the time the pitcher releases it until the batter brings the bat around and
through the ball. A batter cannot hit the ball unless one knows what direction the ball is traveling.
Sally, a teammate at Macon College in 1993, was always striking out because at the last minute
before swinging the bat she would close her eyes. After being convinced she could keep her eyes
open while swinging, she was able to hit a game–winning double in our final game of the

Cause And Effect Essay On Softball
The object of softball is to score runs by hitting the ball and touching all the bases without being
tagged or thrown out. Softball games last for seven innings. The pitcher will pitch to a batter until
one of four things happens: The batter gets three strikes against him/her. A strike occurs when the
batter swings at a pitch but misses it or hits it foul with less than two strikes against him/her, or
when the pitch passes through the strike zone but the batter does not swing at it. The pitcher throws
four "balls," which are pitches that fail to pass through the strike zone and which are not swung at
by the batter. In this case the batter "walks," meaning he or she is awarded first base. The pitcher
hits the batter with a pitch. In this case, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The batter reaches base safely by virtue of a hit, a fielder's choice, or a fielding error or rarer
occurrences such as catcher's or runner's interference. To get a batter out, a pitcher can record three
strikes against the batter, or a fielder can catch a batted fly–ball in either fair or foul territory before
it hits the ground. If the batter hits a ground ball, he or she will be out at first base if a fielder can
secure the batted ball and throw it to the first baseman who steps on first base before the batter can
do so. To get a runner out, an infielder can tag the runner with the ball or the gloved ball while the
runner is between bases. In the case of a "force out," a runner is forced to advance to the next base
when there is nowhere else for him/her to go, and he or she may be put out by any infielder who
while holding the ball steps on the base before the runner arrives there. In this case the fielder does
not have to tag the runner. A force out commonly occurs when a batter hits the ball to an infielder,
who throws it or runs it to first base before the batter can run there. When a batter hits a fair ball she
may attempt to run as far around the bases as he or she thinks possible without being tagged out by

How Is Language Used In Her First Ball
Katherine Mansfield's short story 'Her First Ball' introduces us to Leila, a country girl on her way to
her first ball with her cousins, the Sheridan sisters. A range of language features convey Leila's
attitude of naive and excitement as the ball begins, and her transition to a young woman who is
more socially experienced and mature by the end of the story. The story conveys the message that
loss of innocence and youthful fantasy is an inevitable and vital part of the transition from
adolescence to adulthood. At the beginning of the story, Leila's attitude towards the ball is one of
exuberance as she has ever experienced anything like it before. Mansfield uses expressive language
features such as similes, personification and metaphors to emphasize ... Show more content on

Mansfield uses lighter, brighter colours to portray Leila's adolescent fantasies surrounding the ball
and darker, more muted colours to portray the fat man's realist views. Before her encounter with the
fat man Leila notices more of her surroundings and the bright colours of the hall such as gazing at
the gleaming, golden floor, the azaleas, the lanterns, the stage at one end with its red carpet and gilt
chairs and the band in a corner, she thought breathlessly, "How heavenly; how simply heavenly!"
this shows us how excited Leila is for the ball through how carefully she observes her surroundings
as she enters the hall. Mansfield also uses white and pink symbols of youth such as "Darling little
pink–and–silver programmes, with pink pencils and fluffy tassels.", "smoothing marble–white
gloves" and "Laura's pink velvet cloak" which show us how light colours symbolise Leila's youthful
innocence while the quotes "long before that you'll be sitting up there on the stage, looking on, in
your nice black velvet", "and the chaperones in dark dresses" and "and you'll beat time with such a
different kind of fan – a black bony one" which show us how darker colours symbolise the fat man's
pessimistic maturity. The use of colour in the text relates to the real life psychological connections
with humans, for example, we relate white and pink with young girls and black with pessimism
similarly to the way Katherine Mansfield uses colour in the

Baseball And Softball Are Similar
Baseball and softball are similar, but very different in many ways. Most people think baseball and
softball are basically the exact same sports, the only difference being girls play softball, and boys
play baseball. The fact is, there are many differences as well as similarities in the two sports. Both of
the sports use a round ball, the object is to hit the ball, run around the bases, and score at home plate.
In the game of softball the baselines are only sixty feet long. Therefore, you must run super fast in
order to be safe at first base. However, baseball baselines are ninety feet long, so the infielders have
more time to get the runner out, and the runners have a longer distance to run. Softball pitchers have
an advantage because the pitching mound is so close. An elite softball pitcher can throw speeds
topping seventy miles per hour. This means a softball pitch can reach the plate in only thirty–five
hundredths of a second! That is actually faster than it takes a 100 miles per hour major league
fastball to reach home plate. The baseball takes thirty–eight hundredths of a second. After locating
the pitch, a softball batter only has about twenty–five milliseconds to decide to swing or not. That is
about fifty–five percent less time than a major league baseball player has. The game of softball can
be very challenging for a batter. However, it can be even more challenging for an infielder. When
balls come off of the bat at about one hundred miles per hour, a softball

Flaws In Volleyball Research Paper
The girls who played volleyball in the clip, are decent players, however there are some significant
flaws in their gameplay. The first aspect that needs work is their teamwork. Their teamwork and lack
of communication is poor, as the girls bumped into each other, and never set the ball for their team
mate to spike. To improve this, name calling should be suggested if you are going to go for the ball,
as this would minimise players running into each other. Another way to improve teamwork is if
strategy was involved. There is no strategy placed in the game, as shown in the clip. The plays of the
ball had only one concept: To get the ball to the other side. There were no sets, leading to no spikes.
If the girls planned who would set to who, and

Examples Of Softball Observation
Shepherd High School freshman softball team host their games at Walker Park, located in
Crestwood, Illinois. On April 23, Shepherd played against Bradley High school and Shepard won
the doubleheader game. I observe the freshman team while playing and sitting it sitting in the
dugout. My focus was on number 22, a white girl named Emily. Emily is the pitcher for Shepard
High School, she appeared to be about 125 pounds, 5.7' in height, blond hair and blue eyes. Dressed
in a white softball shirt, black softball pants, black socks and cleats.
During the observation, I notice Emily's cognitive, emotional, physical, and social development
while playing softball. As the team takes their positions; Emily is warming up with the catcher.
Emily showed excitement and determination to strike the batter out. The umpires said "let play ball
". Emily gets on the pitcher mount and is ready to take the first pitch. She swings her arm with great
force and release the ball with fast speed. Batter hits the ball straight to the Emily. Emily catches the

make it to first base after batting. While playing the field she would attempt to catch the ball to get
player out, or would throw the ball to where the play is occurring.
Lastly, I was able to witness Emily's social development skills during the softball game. As she
interacted well with her teammates. She followed the coaches and teammate instructions when a
play needed to be made.
After concluding my observation, I found that Emily didn't appreciate her parents. She appeared to
be an ungrateful daughter. Parents lacked discipline, they did correct her when been

What Is The Theme Of Her First Ball
Katherine Mansfield's short story 'Her First Ball' introduces us to Leila, a country girl on her way to
her first ball with her cousins, the Sheridan sisters. A range of language features convey Leila's
attitude of naive and excitement as the ball begins, and her transition to a young woman who is
more socially experienced and mature by the end of the story. The story conveys the message that
loss of innocence is an inevitable and vital part of the transition from adolescence to adulthood.
At the beginning of the story, Leila's attitude towards the ball is one of exuberance as she has ever
experienced anything like it before. Mansfield uses language features such as similes,
personification and metaphors to emphasize Leila's breathless excitement ... Show more content on

The text starts off with a giddy tone that accentuates Leila's excitement for the ball "Exactly when
the ball began Leila would have found it hard to say." this gives a sense that Leila has lost track of
reality, from being whisked away by the glamour and grandiose of the ball when she first enters the
hall. Around the middle of the text the tone transitions from giddy and cheerful to a more depressing
tone when Leila encounters the fat man. This is shown by the quote "It hardly bears thinking about,
does it?" said the fat man gloomily. Leila looked at his bald head, and she felt quite sorry for him.
Which shows us the change in tone when Leila meets the fat man. Leila's time with the fat men is
characterised by her being pulled away from the fantasy of the ball and back to reality as she gets
shocked by the fat man's realist/pessimist view. After Leila's encounter with the fat man ends the
tone of the text changes back to cheerful and exuberant with the quote "The lights, the azaleas, the
dresses, the pink faces, the velvet chairs, all became one beautiful flying wheel." this shows us that
immediately after the fat man leaves the ball goes back to normal and Leila forgets him and carries
on with her youthful fantasy version of the ball. The changes in the tone of the text shows how
adolescents live in the moment and tend to easily pass things

opposing teams kept tying with one another. However, in the end, the Vikings were victorious in all
three games with the following scores: 25–17, 25–17, 25–15. The opening of the first game started
off with William Penn serving the first ball, but Hailey Criswell, #1 for the Vikings, spiked the ball
earning an instant kill for the team. Through the first six or nine points, both teams played quick and
cautiously so neither of them would be left too far behind. This time, #16, Dakota Santore, served

Tennis Essay
As we all know, America is a nation of sports enthusiasts. Most Americans participate is some kind
of sporting event, either as a spectator or as a competitor. In the pantheon of great American sports,
there is one that stands out. It has been called the great American pastime. Yes, that great sport
known as tennis. Tennis requires a mastery of many skills to be able to play competitively, but the
primary skill needed to win in tennis is the serve. The serve is the primary offensive weapon used I
tennis, because it is the only time when a player gets to put a ball into play. The player controls the
speed, the placement, and the spin of the ball. With proper procedure, the serve can win many points

The server should hold the racket in his or her right hand, holding the right arm straight toward the
ground. The racket hand should point in the direction of the net. The server should hold the ball in
his or her left hand, touching the ball to the racket face.
The actual serve motion requires timing and speed. The server should toss the ball straight up into
the air by fully extending his or her left arm. He or she should leave the left arm fully extended to
help sight the ball as it ascends. While the ball is in the air, the server should rotate the racket head
so that it points away from the net, and then bring it straight up so that the frame almost touches the
right shoulder blade. Meanwhile, the server should shift his or her weight to the right leg. Then, as
the ball reaches the height of its ascent, the server should jump up while fully extending his or her
right arm toward the ball and slightly twisting his or her right wrist to bring the racket face into
contact with the ball. Then he or she should continue the forward motion of the racket by following
through the stroke, bringing the racket across the body so that it points toward the ground at the
server's left side.
These directions are for a right–handed player. A left–handed player would use the same technique,

Plot Differences In Disney's Version Of Cinderella
There were a few plot differences in Disney's version of Cinderella and the story of Cinderella that
we read in class during the Fairy Tale segment. One of the changes included the number of balls that
were held. In my opinion this was a bigger change because in the movie it is all built up for one ball
and in the original text version there are two balls held. At the first ball, Cinderella realizes that the
Prince has an interest in her. When she comes home that night she wishes to attend the second ball.
The second ball is like the one Disney portrays. It is when Cinderella loses her slipper and the prince
finds it on the stairs. The first ball puts a twist on the story. Readers may be expecting it to be like
the movie. Therefore, they expect

Symbolism In The Prestige
Fall Final In the movie The Prestige many symbols are used in the movie revealing information
about the characters and the theme of the scene or the movie as a whole. Nolan's film The Prestige
uses the red ball throughout the film to represents the fatherly love from Borden to his daughter:
Jess, revealing the love, longing, determination, hope and promise he has for his daughter. The tiny
little red balls are used as a symbol for Borden's relationship with his daughter. The red balls show
up in contrasting moments in the film. For example, Borden gives his daughter Jess the little red
balls when they first saw their new house. In this moment the balls represent hope, promise, and
love. The hope that they will have a good long life as a family. The promise that he will do
everything that he can do to give her a good life. The balls also represent how much love he has for
his only daughter. In another instance in the movie, he gives his daughter the red ball when he is in
jail. In this moment in time he gives the ball to her to represent the longing, determination, and
promise to get her back. In the jail scene he is longing to have his daughter back and it hurts him

It was my first year playing lacrosse and most of the other girls on my team had played for two to

ball all the way down the field to score. I was so mortified after my first game that I used my

Nervous and shy in a large city she despised, she lasted only six weeks at the school and returned
home to Celoron. While waiting for her big break, Ball modeled under the name Diane Belmont
until she was virtually bedridden for three years by rheumatoid arthritis. After her recovery, she
returned to New York and was chosen by Liggett and Myers to promote cigarettes as "the
Chesterfield Girl." Her entrance into the film industry came about when she accidentally ran into
Sylvia Hahlo, a local theatrical agent, while walking up Broadway one day. Hahlo informed her of
an opportunity to appear in Roman Scandals (1933), produced by Samuel Goldwyn. Ball auditioned

Wow! There are so many softball players in this world that wonder how to field the perfect ground
ball. Some girls think it is easy, and there are some that think it is hard. The ones that think it is hard
should follow these steps. In order to field the proper ground ball, a player must have proper
equipment, understand the proper position, and then execute the perfect play. In order to field the
proper ground ball, a player must first have proper equipment. The proper equipment is a glove,
sunglasses, and cleats. The reason a player needs a glove is so he or she can catch the ball. The
players may need sunglasses if they are playing in mid–day when the sun is out so the player can see
when the ball is hit their way. A player needs cleats for good grip for when the player is moving in

The proper position is to go to any infield position that would be good for the player. When the
player is at his or her position, the player must then get his or her legs shoulder length apart. This is
important because it gives the player better balance. Then the player must bend her knees a little to
get closer to the ground to field the ground ball. This also improves the players balance and makes it
easier to move toward the ball. Next the players will placer her glove on the ground. That helps the
player field it so the ball doesn't go under the player legs. Last the player will place her other hand
above the glove. That helps the player field the ball in case the ball takes a bad hop so the player
doesn't get hit. The player will execute the perfect play with using the perfect position to field the

The Girl With Only Two Arms And Two Legs Literary Analysis
I bet you like to be treated well. In the story, Quarta was not treated well. Her classmates were really

With Only Two Arms And Two Legs" By is to treat people how you would like to be treated. You
can tell this is true because Quarta is very nice to everybody but nobody is nice to her. I know this
because she lets anybody play One Ball, a game she introduced to her classmates. One Ball is a
game that is very close to volleyball. I also know that this is the theme because Quarta helps others.
Even though her classmates who had four arms and four legs are mean to Quarta because she has

Importance Of Lucille Ball
More than a pretty face:
Before there were women like Oprah Winfrey or Ellen DeGeneres, there was a Lucille Ball. A
woman running her own television show, production network, while also maintaining the role as a
mother and a wife. Lucille was one of the influential women of her time, impacting society
anywhere from interracial dating and marriages, her television show and her pregnancy and what it
represented. Lucille Ball paved the road for a woman following a career in comedy, expanding
acceptance for women's priorities to not always be that of her physical appearance, and the
betterment of her husband and children's lives. In the 1950's a woman who focused on her own
career advancement and self–betterment was often considered selfish and self–centered, and Lucille
Ball was one of the women to prove that stereotype wrong. With so little women at the time in the
workplace and drastically fewer women with upper–level positions, Lucille Ball stands out. It is not
a secret that Lucille Ball was one of the first significant female actresses of her time, but the
importance of that role is one that is often overlooked. Not only did Lucille Ball defy traditional
domestic roles off–screen, but the character Lucy on I Love Lucy, was also untraditional in terms of
the 1950s mindset. While Ball is merely looked at as a hilarious television star, the importance of
her humorous personality is also valuable. In the 1950's, the airing period of I Love Lucy, a woman's
traditional place in the world was not one of humor and comedy. A woman's role at that time was
cooking and cleaning and caring for her husband and children, along with maintaining a beautiful
physical appearance. An example of such perfection for the time is the character June Cleaver, from
Leave it to Beaver. June was the epitome of a perfect woman for that time. Perfect hair and outfit,
always cooking decadently, faultlessly cleaned house, all topped off with curlers in her hair and a
smile. In the 1950s and 1960s, a perfect woman would be a domestic, dutiful wife and mother who
lacked economic independence, sexuality, voice, or presence of her own, and her identity was
crafted by a patriarchal society. While Lucille Ball's character in I love Lucy lacked

Piaget 's Theory Of The Stages Of Development Essay
Conservation is the ability to understand that as an object changes form, it does not change the
overall amount or mass. In Piaget's theory, he describes that during the pre–operational stage of
development children are often incapable of understanding the concept of conservation, the ages in
this stage generally range from 2–6 years old (Siegler & Alibali, 2005). It isn't until the concrete
operational stage that children have the ability to understand conservation. During this stage
children range from the ages of 7– 12 years old. In order to observe the changes in between stages, I
chose to administer Piaget's conservation of solid quantity to two different children. The task
administered was to see if the two children would be able to see a transformation when I rolled out
one of the two balls of clay. Piaget illustrated a stage model that explains the different stages of
development starting at birth and continuing to twelve years old and onwards. In the task that I will
be conducting it involves two of the four stages. The first stage is the pre–operational period. During
this time children are exhibiting egocentrism as well as using symbolic representations, such as
symbols or using signs. When children are in the pre–operational stage they do not have the ability
to see transformations, instead they focus on fixed states. It is not until the concrete operational
stage that children are able to see these transformations between states. The inability to see

centers on young Leila who has moved from the countryside to the city and is attending her first ball
along with her cousins.
Considering Mansfield wrote the short story in the early 1920s, and also bearing in mind that dances
such as the one included in Her first ball were common among the bourgeois youth at this time, it is
fair to assume Mansfield meant for the short story to be set in the then contemporary time.
The plot of the short story unfolds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Leila moves from up–country to the city, meets new people and takes on a new role as a ball
participant. She has likely turned 18 recently and is transitioning into adulthood.
The old man, a sore reminder of Leila's future, attends dances without shame. When Leila remarks
that it is inspiring for him to still be going on, he tells her that she has no chance of lasting as long.
("[...] 'long before that you'll be sitting up there on the stage, looking on, in your nice black velvet.
And these pretty arms will have turned into little short fat ones, and you'll beat time with such a
different kind of fan – a black bony one.'". This introduces a fourth theme: gender roles. Though it is
possible for him, as a man, to continue dancing for as long as he would like to, she cannot make that
choice.
Her first ball is a short story that deals with coming of age, new beginnings, facades in the upper
class, and gender roles in the 1920s. Katherine Mansfield uses many symbols to get her message
through: it is not necessarily wrong to see the world through the eyes of a child every once in a
while, and you should enjoy the moment even though there will inevitably be an end to it.

Undefeatede By Evalynd morse "Wo–hoo!" I heard the stands going crazy. People yelling and
cheering, the sound of the high top shoes squeaking on the glossy fresh stadium gym. Just watching
my team and the opponents fighting to win the game. The smell of fresh food coming straight from

cuts to the basket. Ry gets the next pass and makes two more, Eveland gets the ball and it goes in the
basket. The bleachers and benches are cheering. The current score is ... Show more content on

Dea Butterfly Birth

  • 1. Dea Butterfly Birth The Birth of A Butterfly In the beginning, the goddess Dea was alone. She did not like being alone. As time passed by her dislike for loneliness turned to hate, and her hate turned to despair. She thought she'd be alone, and from her grief a ball of rock was formed. She did not notice the ball and continued to wallow in her despair. Her tears fell onto the earth creating oceans, rivers, and lakes. When she noticed the ball of rock covered in water her grief turned to curiosity. From Dea's curiosity grew a flower, the first flower. As the flower grew, so did her curiosity. As it increased more plants started to grow. Trees grew in cluster creating wide forests. Coral flourished in the reefs and lone cacti grew from sand. Her curiosity grew to wonder. Then out from forests came animals of all sizes and shape; Bears, buffalo, lions, rabbits, deer, eagles. They all came from the forest and spread out across the ball. ... She is on the junior varsity team and this is her first time playing basketball on a team. This is her first time playing any team sport. Right now she is learning the basics and having a hard time focusing but that is expected being her first year. The reason I chose Carolyn is because since this is her first time playing basketball on a team and her first sport, there is no muscle memory developed as of yet. I can analyze her foul shot and movements and see raw unrehearsed kinetics of her movements. The methods of data collection I will use to analyze Carolyn's movement skills in the fouls shot are a digital camcorder recording of sagittal plane of her dominant side, also frontal plane view. I will use Coaches Eye, a video recording application. Three times will be recorded for analysis. I also will physically record on a chart. My limitations will be the environment because I will have to conduct this analysis outside of a gym, so I will not have a basketball hoop but I will have a goal for Carolyn to aim for. With this data that I will apply it to what I have researched about gaining and practicing the best skill for the ultimate performance. Then I will have my subject Carolyn practice and then re analyze her movement's. The analyzed movement will be the basketball free throw shot. I have found peer reviewed articles on how to ... • 25. Example Of Observation Of Basketball For my second observation I went back to my elementary school from when I was younger and observed a second grade physical education class and their teacher Mrs. McFarland. It was a rainy day so the lesson was held in the cafeteria. I observed Mrs. McFarland teach the first lesson of basketball to her class, before class she told me that this would be the first lesson of a 6 part lesson. When the students walked into the cafeteria they immediately sat down in their assigned spots on the floor, Mrs. McFarland stood up at the front of the room by the stage area and all the students. When all the students were seated Mrs. McFarland gave a very brief explanation on what the students would be doing that day and then they started with a warm up. During the warm up the students started out galloping around the room to music and when the music stop she would shout of jumping jacks and the students would do jumping jacks until the music came back on. They did this warm up for about 5 minutes and then went back to their spots and sat down. Mrs. McFarland went back to the front of the cafeteria and began to talk to the students about what they would be doing. She gave a demonstration of the triple threat position and then asked the students some questions about what they saw her just do. Next, she had the children grab their our balls and come back to their spot so that they could practice some ball handling drills. • 27. Passer To Play Volleyball A new sport was invented by William Morgan in 1895. "Morgan was an instructor at a YMCA and blended elements of basketball, baseball, tennis, and handball to create this new sport." (Evdokimoff 2011) Since the ball was "volleyed" over a net, it soon became known as volleyball. According to Evdokimoff, the first official game was played at Massachusetts College in 1896. Volleyball is considered an easy sport to those who have never played; however, it involves many skills, much determination, and constant communication. On the offensive end, passing is the first thing that must be done. In order for the setter to set the ball, the passer must make a good pass. The passer has to judge whether or not the serve or the hit is in or out. Next, a passer will move his or her body behind the ball. While staying low, the passer then turns his or her shoulders towards the target, the setter. It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The hitter's first job is to try to block the opposing team's attack. Then the hitter must get off the net and be ready for the set. If the ball does not come, the hitter must cover the person who is hitting. In an attacking situation, the hitter must jump, make contact with the ball at its highest peak, and snap the wrist. In volleyball, all players have a specific job, but must rely on each other to get individual jobs done. Communication is the biggest key to a good volleyball team. First, a passer must call the ball if able to make the pass. If players do not talk and claim the ball, it may hit the floor. Also, the setter has to tell his or her teammates if he or she can get to the second hit. Finally, everyone who is not hitting should talk to the hitter. It is imperative to share where to place the hit, if tipping is a better option, and how many blockers there are. Miscommunication could cost the team a point or even the game. • 29. How to Become an Effective Hitter Essay How to Become an Effective Hitter Babe Ruth is known for his 714 home runs. However, few people realize the other statistic he holds, which is having the most strikeouts of any player in the major league. This statistic helps to prove there is only a slight difference between a good hit and a strike. To become a good hitter in baseball, three fundamentals are necessary. First, the batter's stance in the batter's box, second, the batter's eye contact on the ball, and third, the batter's swing are the three fundamentals a good hitter will possess. First, a good stance in the batter's box is required to hit the ball successfully. The stance is not only important to the hitter, but it informs the defense of the location of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The knees should not be locked but slightly bent. For example, when I hit, I usually foul a ball down the first or third base line so the outfielders move accordingly. In our final game of the season against Middle Georgia College in Cochran when I played softball in college, however, the right fielder was positioned way off the first base line towards second base. She was reading my even stance as I was trying to hit the ball up the middle or over second base. She was wrong. At the last minute, I changed my stance as the ball was coming and hit it right down the first base line. A good stance is important to becoming a productive hitter. Second, no matter how perfect the stance, unless a batter has good eye contact, a high batting average will never be possible. A pitcher can put a large number of different spins on the ball. For example, the curve ball, the slider, the fast ball, and the knuckle ball move differently. A batter needs to watch the ball from the time the pitcher releases it until the batter brings the bat around and through the ball. A batter cannot hit the ball unless one knows what direction the ball is traveling. Sally, a teammate at Macon College in 1993, was always striking out because at the last minute before swinging the bat she would close her eyes. • 31. Cause And Effect Essay On Softball The object of softball is to score runs by hitting the ball and touching all the bases without being tagged or thrown out. Softball games last for seven innings. The pitcher will pitch to a batter until one of four things happens: The batter gets three strikes against him/her. A strike occurs when the batter swings at a pitch but misses it or hits it foul with less than two strikes against him/her, or when the pitch passes through the strike zone but the batter does not swing at it. The pitcher throws four "balls," which are pitches that fail to pass through the strike zone and which are not swung at by the batter. In this case the batter "walks," meaning he or she is awarded first base. The pitcher hits the batter with a pitch. In this case, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The batter reaches base safely by virtue of a hit, a fielder's choice, or a fielding error or rarer occurrences such as catcher's or runner's interference. To get a batter out, a pitcher can record three strikes against the batter, or a fielder can catch a batted fly–ball in either fair or foul territory before it hits the ground. If the batter hits a ground ball, he or she will be out at first base if a fielder can secure the batted ball and throw it to the first baseman who steps on first base before the batter can do so. To get a runner out, an infielder can tag the runner with the ball or the gloved ball while the runner is between bases. In the case of a "force out," a runner is forced to advance to the next base when there is nowhere else for him/her to go, and he or she may be put out by any infielder who while holding the ball steps on the base before the runner arrives there. In this case the fielder does not have to tag the runner. A force out commonly occurs when a batter hits the ball to an infielder, who throws it or runs it to first base before the batter can run there. How Is Language Used In Her First Ball Katherine Mansfield's short story 'Her First Ball' introduces us to Leila, a country girl on her way to her first ball with her cousins, the Sheridan sisters. Mansfield also uses white and pink symbols of youth such as "Darling little pink–and–silver programmes, with pink pencils and fluffy tassels.", "smoothing marble–white gloves" and "Laura's pink velvet cloak" which show us how light colours symbolise Leila's youthful innocence while the quotes "long before that you'll be sitting up there on the stage, looking on, in your nice black velvet", "and the chaperones in dark dresses" and "and you'll beat time with such a different kind of fan – a black bony one" which show us how darker colours symbolise the fat man's pessimistic maturity. • 35. Baseball And Softball Are Similar Baseball and softball are similar, but very different in many ways. Most people think baseball and softball are basically the exact same sports, the only difference being girls play softball, and boys play baseball. The fact is, there are many differences as well as similarities in the two sports. Both of the sports use a round ball, the object is to hit the ball, run around the bases, and score at home plate. In the game of softball the baselines are only sixty feet long. Therefore, you must run super fast in order to be safe at first base. However, baseball baselines are ninety feet long, so the infielders have more time to get the runner out, and the runners have a longer distance to run. Softball pitchers have an advantage because the pitching mound is so close. An elite softball pitcher can throw speeds topping seventy miles per hour. This means a softball pitch can reach the plate in only thirty–five hundredths of a second! That is actually faster than it takes a 100 miles per hour major league fastball to reach home plate. The baseball takes thirty–eight hundredths of a second. After locating the pitch, a softball batter only has about twenty–five milliseconds to decide to swing or not. That is about fifty–five percent less time than a major league baseball player has. The game of softball can be very challenging for a batter. However, it can be even more challenging for an infielder. When balls come off of the bat at about one hundred miles per hour, a softball ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first aspect that needs work is their teamwork. Their teamwork and lack of communication is poor, as the girls bumped into each other, and never set the ball for their team mate to spike. To improve this, name calling should be suggested if you are going to go for the ball, as this would minimise players running into each other. Another way to improve teamwork is if strategy was involved. There is no strategy placed in the game, as shown in the clip. Around the middle of the text the tone transitions from giddy and cheerful to a more depressing tone when Leila encounters the fat man. Leila's time with the fat men is characterised by her being pulled away from the fantasy of the ball and back to reality as she gets shocked by the fat man's realist/pessimist view. After Leila's encounter with the fat man ends the tone of the text changes back to cheerful and exuberant with the quote "The lights, the azaleas, the dresses, the pink faces, the velvet chairs, all became one beautiful flying wheel." this shows us that immediately after the fat man leaves the ball goes back to normal and Leila forgets him and carries on with her youthful fantasy version of the ball. I stretched my arms one last time before I got into the box. I threw my hand up behind me to let the umpire and RC know that I was not ready. As I stepped into the box I could feel my heart pounding out of my chest. I got set and loaded and smiled at RC. I could taste the amazing hit that was coming. I just knew I was about to stroke it out of the park. She started her wind up and threw the ball. The first two pitches she threw were balls. I got the sign from Coach Whiddon, and stepped into the box. RC started her wind up and threw the ball on the inside corner of the plate and I fouled it off. The same thing happened with the next pitch. The count was then two balls, and two strikes. My heart started pounding even harder. I bowed my head and drew a cross in the dirt and said a small prayer before I stepped in the box again. I took a deep breath and stepped in the box. I sat my bat on my shoulder and smiled at RC once again. I loaded my bat to let her know I was ready. She started her wind up and threw a changeup on the outside corner of the plate. I locked my eyes on the ball, and swung my bat. I took my hands to the ball, and snapped my wrists as the bat hit the ball. As I followed through the ball flew over the first baseman's and the ... • 71. Importance Of Lucille Ball More than a pretty face: Before there were women like Oprah Winfrey or Ellen DeGeneres, there was a Lucille Ball. A woman running her own television show, production network, while also maintaining the role as a mother and a wife. Lucille was one of the influential women of her time, impacting society anywhere from interracial dating and marriages, her television show and her pregnancy and what it represented. Lucille Ball paved the road for a woman following a career in comedy, expanding acceptance for women's priorities to not always be that of her physical appearance, and the betterment of her husband and children's lives. In the 1950's a woman who focused on her own career advancement and self–betterment was often considered selfish and self–centered, and Lucille Ball was one of the women to prove that stereotype wrong. With so little women at the time in the workplace and drastically fewer women with upper–level positions, Lucille Ball stands out. It is not a secret that Lucille Ball was one of the first significant female actresses of her time, but the importance of that role is one that is often overlooked. Not only did Lucille Ball defy traditional domestic roles off–screen, but the character Lucy on I Love Lucy, was also untraditional in terms of the 1950s mindset. While Ball is merely looked at as a hilarious television star, the importance of her humorous personality is also valuable. In the 1950's, the airing period of I Love Lucy, a woman's traditional place in the world was not one of humor and comedy. A woman's role at that time was cooking and cleaning and caring for her husband and children, along with maintaining a beautiful physical appearance. An example of such perfection for the time is the character June Cleaver, from Leave it to Beaver. June was the epitome of a perfect woman for that time. Perfect hair and outfit, always cooking decadently, faultlessly cleaned house, all topped off with curlers in her hair and a smile. In the 1950s and 1960s, a perfect woman would be a domestic, dutiful wife and mother who lacked economic independence, sexuality, voice, or presence of her own, and her identity was crafted by a patriarchal society. While Lucille Ball's character in I love Lucy lacked ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 73. Piaget 's Theory Of The Stages Of Development Essay Conservation is the ability to understand that as an object changes form, it does not change the overall amount or mass. In Piaget's theory, he describes that during the pre–operational stage of development children are often incapable of understanding the concept of conservation, the ages in this stage generally range from 2–6 years old (Siegler & Alibali, 2005). It isn't until the concrete operational stage that children have the ability to understand conservation. During this stage children range from the ages of 7– 12 years old. In order to observe the changes in between stages, I chose to administer Piaget's conservation of solid quantity to two different children. The task administered was to see if the two children would be able to see a transformation when I rolled out one of the two balls of clay. Piaget illustrated a stage model that explains the different stages of development starting at birth and continuing to twelve years old and onwards. In the task that I will be conducting it involves two of the four stages. The first stage is the pre–operational period. During this time children are exhibiting egocentrism as well as using symbolic representations, such as symbols or using signs. When children are in the pre–operational stage they do not have the ability to see transformations, instead they focus on fixed states. It is not until the concrete operational stage that children are able to see these transformations between states. The inability to see ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. What Is The Theme Of Her First Ball By Katherine Mansfield The short story Her first ball is written by Katherine Mansfield, a prominent modernist writer from New Zealand. The short story was first published in the Weekly Westminster Gazette, then later included in her third collection of short stories, The Garden Party and Other Stories. Her first ball centers on young Leila who has moved from the countryside to the city and is attending her first ball along with her cousins. Considering Mansfield wrote the short story in the early 1920s, and also bearing in mind that dances such as the one included in Her first ball were common among the bourgeois youth at this time, it is fair to assume Mansfield meant for the short story to be set in the then contemporary time. The plot of the short story unfolds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Leila moves from up–country to the city, meets new people and takes on a new role as a ball participant. She has likely turned 18 recently and is transitioning into adulthood. The old man, a sore reminder of Leila's future, attends dances without shame. When Leila remarks that it is inspiring for him to still be going on, he tells her that she has no chance of lasting as long. ("[...] 'long before that you'll be sitting up there on the stage, looking on, in your nice black velvet. And these pretty arms will have turned into little short fat ones, and you'll beat time with such a different kind of fan – a black bony one.'". This introduces a fourth theme: gender roles. Though it is possible for him, as a man, to continue dancing for as long as he would like to, she cannot make that choice. Her first ball is a short story that deals with coming of age, new beginnings, facades in the upper class, and gender roles in the 1920s. Katherine Mansfield uses many symbols to get her message through: it is not necessarily wrong to see the world through the eyes of a child every once in a while, and you should enjoy the moment even though there will inevitably be an end to it.
