Hubert Berke Research Paper
The prolific German painter Hubert Berke was born in 1908 in Buer and died in 1979 in Cologne.
Before his transition into fine arts, Berke educated himself in languages, later studying philosophy, art
history and theology at universities in Münster and Königsberg (1931 2). After a year of education
under the painter Fritz Burmann at the Academy of Fine Arts, Berke left Königsberg for Düsseldorf,
where he was a student of Paul Klee. Both in his oils and watercolors, Berke was oscillating between
Informel painting and the modernist traditions from cubism and abstraction, to expressionism. Later
on, in the mid 50s, the artist started to employ three dimensional materials into his canvases, such as
nails. The following years, Berke extended his artistic vocabulary through sculptures, objects, or
stained glass windows. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the years of his artistic activity, educating himself and later working in several cities,
Mense greatly contributed to movements such as the Cologne Secession, New Objectivity, Magic
Realism and the Young Rhineland, both as a painter and exhibition organizer. Mense started his
studies at the Academy of Arts in Düsseldorf (1906 8), and continued at the Academy of Fine Arts in
Berlin (1909 12) and School of Art in Weimar (1909 10), later appointed professor at the Academy of
Arts and Crafts in Wrocław (1925 32). In the 30s, Mense was appreciated as a teacher and artist, just
to mention the esteemed Villa Massimo prize (1933), however, his art was banned by the Third Reich
regime; his works, defined as degenerate , were included in Entartete Kunst exhibition in 1937. The
art of Carlo Mense is still a subject to a number of exhibitions, more recently displayed at the
Kunstmuseum in Bonn (2013), Ludwig Museum in Cologne (2012), Jewish Museum (2004) and
Brücke Museum in Berlin (2002), among many

Republican Revolution Research Paper
The Republican Revolution, Revolution of 94 or Gingrich Revolution refers to the Republican Party
(GOP) success in the 1994 U.S. midterm elections,[1] which resulted in a net gain of 54 seats in the
House of Representatives, and a pickup of eight seats in the Senate. The day after the election,
conservative Democrat Senator Richard Shelby of Alabama changed parties, becoming a Republican.
The Democrats only picked up 4 seats in the House, all of which were open seats. No Republican
incumbents were defeated at any level. Rather than campaigning independently in each district,
Republican candidates chose to rally behind a single national program and message fronted by
Georgia congressman Newt Gingrich. They alleged President Bill Clinton was

There was a return to a monophonic texture for the cello and the dynamics became pianissimo. Since
this movement s form was ostinato, I heard short melodic, rhythmic, and harmonic patterns repeated.
This piece was long, at twelve minutes, and at one point I stopped taking notes, in awe of what I was
hearing. The entire piece felt symmetrical to me and was sing able throughout. Beethoven s Sonata 3,
Opus 69 nears a close with a texture that was heterophonic, dynamics that go from forte to piano and a
bright tone color for cello and piano. The melody remained conjunct with a contour that was wavelike,
by ascending and descending, especially for the piano. The tempo returned to allegro throughout this
piece and ended with the dynamics returning to forte and the final cadence as the harmony resolved in
consonance. The second movement of Beethoven s Sonata in A Major, Opus 69 was Scherzo: Allegro
molto and began with Jordan Anders playing the opening notes of the melody in a narrow range with a
melodic movement that was conjunct. The texture here was monophonic for only a few measures. The
timbre of the piano was bright and the harmony was minor. I heard the second movement in triple
meter, and by the time the cello began to play there seemed to be a return to the polyphonic texture
which was common in the first movement. The movement of the melody was disjunct with a medium
range, the dynamics of the piano soft (piano) and the tempo

The Settlements Of The Treaty Of Waitangi Essay
The Settlements of the Treaty of Waitangi.
The treaty of Waitangi is considered to be the founding document of the English and European control
and settlement in New Zealand. After the treaty s signing in 1840 it has played a huge role in legal
affairs and the treatment of both European New Zealanders and Maori New Zealanders. Though there
is dispute as to the correct or incorrect translation from English to Maori and vice versa, the treaty has
on the whole created a harmonious existence between the two cultures.
In 1832 after a plea for help and protection sent to the French and English by the Maori, the English
sent James Busby to be the British Resident in New Zealand, which would lead to the later
appointment of William Hobson as the Lieutenant Governor of New Zealand. In 1834 James Busby
drafted a document known as the Declaration of Independence of New Zealand . This was signed by
himself and 35 Northern Maori chiefs in 1835 appointing those chiefs as the representatives of a state
under the name of the United Tribes of New Zealand . This document was not popular in the Colonial
Office in England and it seemed that a corrective document was needed for New Zealand. This
document ended up being the Treaty of Waitangi.
Hobsons instructions are the basis for all Waitangi Tribunal claims and settlements, the instructions
were issued to him by James Stephen of the Colonial office on behalf of Queen Victoria. The
instructions were as follows:

Introduction: Within this assignment I did research on the effect technology has on people s lives. The
main purpose of the investigation was to help our editor of the school newspaper with information on
the various chosen topics so that the articles can be published. The two main topics covered in the
investigation was Oculus Rift and Google Glasses. My main goal for this investigation and report was
to be able to inform people in our school and those who read our newspaper about the impact of
technology, specifically the impact of newly and highly developed items. I would need to investigate

Peregrine Pickle Analysis
The passage from The Adventures of Peregrine Pickle by Tobias Smollett explores the overwhelming
love of a brother and a lover as well as the other emotions that come with that love as they fight with
words and sword over their love, Emilia. Mr. Pickle is in love with Emilia and is speaking with
Godfrey Gauntlet who is the brother of Emilia. Through the strong dialogue between characters and
the pacing of their battles, time is given to build up stronger characters and inform us of the deeper
emotions connecting the two. Godfrey is the first to speak, with dialogue starting immediately,
demanding of Mr. Pickle what his objective is with his sister. Mr. Pickle responds with a question
regarding why he should tell Mr. Gauntlet, knowing full ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The formal tone used in the words between them creates arrogance and a sarcastic tone, especially by
Mr. Pickle. The use of such words prompts a deeper look at the dialogue and slows the reader down.
The second battle between them has a much faster pacing with many of the next sentences dealing
with the preparation of battle and the taunts by Mr. Godfrey of being an expert swordsman. It explains
that Godfrey would have used pistols which would be potentially more lethal than swords had Mr.
Pickle not made his studies in science. The sword fight ends shortly after Mr. Godfrey draws first
blood and Mr. Pickle becomes overzealous and over thrusts resulting in the shattered sword and a win
for Godfrey. The quick pacing makes it seem as if there is no match for Godfrey and that a fight with
him is not to be taken lightly. However, Godfrey is a respectful man who will not take a man s life for
granted despite his emotions getting the better of him when speaking with Mr. Pickle. Godfrey exits to
leave Peregrine to reflect and Godfrey to have respect and dignity for another day. The narrative pace
really emphasizes the fact that Mr. Pickle s character is that of a scientist and not that of a sword
fighter while Godfrey is rather adept at fighting. His dialogue is sometimes ended with the word
soldier letting us know background information and his taunt of being an expert sword fighter in the
army could actually

The Stories Of Cinderella, Snow White, And Sleeping Beauty
Most of us grew up watching and reading the stories of Cinderella, Snow White and, Sleeping Beauty
all of which were produced by Disney. But what if I told you that the versions you grew up watching
and reading are far from the original versions depicted by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, better known as
the Brothers Grimm. In their tale of Cinderella there was no fairy godmother, the step sisters cut off
portions of their feet to fit into the slipper and none of the animals talked or sang, but rather plucked
out the step sister s eyes as punishment for the mistreatment of Cinderella. Which begs the question,
what inspired the brother s to write these types short stories, which are so not what is recognized today
as a fairy tale ? The rags to riches tale of Cinderella (the Brothers Grimm version) the maiden later
known as Cinderella goes from a beloved and cherished daughter, to a household slave after the death
of her mother and father s remarriage to a cruel step mother and two heartless step sisters. To which is
very similar to the Disney version most of us are familiar with today. The authors do a good job of
laying out the magical portion of the tale which was created through the tears she shed every over the
tree branch she planted at her mother s grave that flourished into a tree and produced a white bird at
each of her visits that granted her whatever she wished for.
The authors keep to a more realistic setting in the story that was true to their era and German

Charles Dickens And The Victorian Era
Charles Dickens and the Victorian Era The various themes and ideas of the Victorian era are perfectly
showcased in the many novels and short stories of Charles Dickens. The writers of the Victorian era
produced an enormous amount of the greatest novels to ever be written those that were realistic,
thickly plotted, crowded with characters, and long. They, more often than not, showed the
characteristics of the different social classes in society. Generally humorous, most books were targeted
to the middle, as they could relate to them the most easily. Dickens own works have extensive plots
woven throughout each of them, one in particular being that of Bleak House. That novel is considered
to be Dickens longest and contains a grand total of fifty characters, all of which are interconnected by
some standard. Its plot surrounds a mysterious murder and lawsuit. A large portion of Dickens
inspiration for his works came from his own childhood and adolescence. He was born Charles John
Huffam Dickens to parents John and Elizabeth on February 7, 1812. Charles was the second of their
eight children. As a child, the family employed two servants. One was named Mary Weller, and she
was instrumental in Charles life. She told him and his siblings made up stories, which she swore were
true, and thus stretched his imagination and fascination for storytelling. His father was employed as a
clerk in the

Snowpiercer Essay
Since the beginning of time, there has been a clash between the members of the elite class and the
malnourished and fragile poor. The struggles contained within a class system are extreme in the Bong
Joon ho film, Snowpiercer. Snowpiercer is a dystopian science fiction thriller depicting life within a
train that encapsulates the last humans on a frozen earth. Those at the back of the train deal with
unfathomable living conditions, which in turn inspires the main character, Curtis, to enact a
revolution. The film portrays this revolution at both a personal and a social level, as its characters and
other cinematic elements produce a fixed class structure. Those who rise up seek an enhanced social
position and as a whole look to obliterate the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is a universal class system in place which uses invisible lines to differentiate those of wealth
and the less fortunate. This class distinction is noticeably artificial, yet monetary gain changes every
aspect of life. The influence of economic stability and affluence can cause people to develop a narrow
mindset toward their ability to become successful. This same impious way of thinking is evident
throughout the film as well. Chancellor Mason, a primary antagonist in Snowpiercer, holds this
bigoted mentality. When pompously explaining predetermined positions in terms of class, she
exclaims, When the foot seeks the place of the head, the sacred line is crossed...be a shoe. Mason is
saying that the poor have no right to try to move up in the social ladder, and even hard work cannot
change their position. This acts as a way of showing how such a parochial attitude is ridiculous, and
how society is heavily dependent on a classist mentality. Presidential campaigns have been based
around this class difference Obama s campaign was centered around providing security for the middle
class so that those who reside in the upper class could not rob them blind. The overarching takeaway
is that these classes are unfairly structured. Power and wealth are intertwined as those who seem to
matter the most make all the

Statement of the Problem
Do automated cashiers affect employment rates in supermarkets?
Do automated cashiers enhance the shopping experience?
Customers have traditionally been used to dealing with live cashiers in their supermarket shopping
experience and in most cases, most customers still look forward to that experience. In the research, we
found greater amounts of complaints over automated than employee operated checkouts. When these
machines were first introduced, it seemed like a good business idea in order to increase productivity
and reduce costs but that has not been the case. Customer satisfaction continues to diminish greatly in
all of the major chains that started to lay off employees and insert these machines into their daily use.
This is the case especially with the 55+ age group who have found themselves in longer lines and
arguing with machines when for years prior to self service checkouts, they had the formality of the
welcoming and warm words of employees at the checkouts.
Also over the years, lines at employee operated registers have gotten longer because customers prefer
to wait in line rather than to deal with the automated systems. Using the employee operated

Comparison between the Great Gatsby and Macbeth
Macbeth is one of Shakespeare s most intense plays and one his most complex psychological studies.
It is also a play about which there is a great deal of historical background, which I think you ll find
interesting because it reveals Shakespeare s creative process. The play was written in 1605 1606. It s
one of the plays where the date is pretty firmly established by internal references to external events,
and most scholars have agreed on the date. Shakespeare was at the height of creative powers, and his
theatrical company, the King s Men, was the official royal acting company. He had the large Globe
Theater, a large public playhouse on the south bank of the Thames. He would soon open the
Blackfriars Theater, a small private ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The historical Macbeth had become king in the year 1040 when he killed the previous king, Duncan,
in battle. To put this in a historical context, this is hardly the Middle Ages; it s still the Dark Ages, as
historians have termed the various stages of European history. It is 26 years before the Norman
invasion of England, which is generally considered to be the beginning of the medieval period in
Britain. In 1040 Macbeth became king and ruled for 17 years until he was overthrown and killed by
Duncan s son, who became King Malcolm III. Malcolm is famous primarily because he married an
English princess named Margaret who was later made a saint. According to the Scottish historian
Archibald Duncan, little is known about Macbeth and his lovely wife Grunnich, except that they were
pious and endowed a religious house at St. Andrew s (which is probably the caddy shack on the fourth
green of that famous golf course joke). The couple went on a religious pilgrimage to Rome where, the
chroniclers said, they sowed money like seed. (Many of us when we go on vacation do the same
thing.) That s all we know for certain about the real Macbeth. Now the fact that Macbeth killed the
previous king was not a big deal. Of the eight Scottish kings who ruled during this time, seven had
died unnatural deaths, including several who burned to death until suspicious circumstances. It was
highly unusual for a Scottish

Development Of Modernism After World War II
After the Second World War, attention immediately turned towards reconstructing a better world. Like
the earlier world war, it destroyed a previous social and economic order (Curtis, 1996). Many of tall
buildings were built to meet the large number of human requirements. Modernism was rapidly
developed at that time. This essay aims to explore the development of modernism after World War II
by compare and contrast the two apartments which are Hansaviertel Apartment in German and Society
Hill Towers in the USA. It first discusses the similarity of the two chosen buildings. Then explains the
difference of design, which includes surroundings, building form and the apartment layout.
Furthermore, explore the factors lead to those difference which are policy, the influence of the other
architects and architects own belief.
As cities were destroyed during the war, there were increasing needs of buildings especially the
apartments and houses. These two chosen projects have the same functions as apartments. They were
both high rise buildings, which were built as a part of the redevelopment of the city after the war. The
Hansaviertel Apartment was built in 1957, Berlin, Germany and designed by Alar Aalto. The other one
is named Society Hill Towers in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I.M Pei is the designer for this apartment.
The two apartments were built at the same time but contrast greatly in term of design, which can

Getting Rid Of Willie Keepum
I do not believe either is necessary at this early stage as both parties should be given a chance to
change. However, if I had to absolutely decide, I would choose to get rid of Willie Keepum (even after
considering his name hoping the name was not a hint). First, from a Human Resources and legal
standpoint, it seems irresponsible to fire an entire group of workers. This cleaning house move could
become extremely costly for Manny Flavors CC with regards to lawsuits and future personnel
recruitment and training. Second, I am quite certain the workers are not the underlying problem. As it
is hard to believe that every single one of the workers inherently has a bad attitude and is unwilling to
work. Of course, there are likely some bad apples but all workers unlikely. The more believable
situation is there is something causing all or most of the employees to act this way poor leadership
from the top. Even if Willie started with a fresh new group of workers, their attitudes and motivation
would probably decline to the same extent as the current workforce leaving Manny and the company
in a similar situation.
2. Analyze Willie s management style and compare it to others that might be better. The management
or leadership style that Willie uses is autocratic. The autocratic leader holds all power, authority, and
control, essentially reserving the right to make all decisions. For example, the way Willie
micromanages and effectively ignores the mid level

Making Peace In The Language Wars Analysis
Probable Peace in the Language Wars Author Bryan A. Garner, in his article Making Peace in the
Language Wars (published in Garner s Modern American Usage 3rd edition, Oxford University Press,
2009), seeks to negotiate a cease fire between two fighting countries, the prescriptivists and the
descriptivists, by dispelling myths about each of their camps. First and foremost, Garner outlines the
war is happening between the lines of our favorite novels and poetry, and he describes what each
camp stands for. Prescriptivists desire to instruct the world around them on how to use the language by
enforcing, or at the very least informing the general public about the rules of grammar. They are
sometimes described as conservative and are very concerned ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net
...
One of the main problems that Garner points out is the fact that prescribers often deny the need for
linguistic evidence. As they are typically rather leery of change, they tend to follow rules and enforce
them ex cathedra. Meaning that they simply take the rules for what they are and never question them
because they came from the ultimate authority. Prescriptivists tend to oppose any change in the rules,
even when the rule has become outdated and the meaning of the words has changed. Garner saw this
issue and aptly decided to support many of his entries with not only adequate evidence for how it
should be used, but also evidence on how it is currently being used even if it is not necessarily correct.
He explains that while much of himself resides in the prescriptive camp, he dips his foot in the
descriptive camp every once in a while. Prescriptivists, while having their problems, also bring a lot to
the table. The rules which they enforce essentially give the descriptivists the springboard that they
need to describe the language around them. It is absolutely imperative that one knows the rules of the
language before he goes out into the world to see whether people are following them or not. It is also
absolutely vital to have the skill of higher language for formal occasions. Garner describes this need
when he brings up the fantastic point of registers especially when making the distinction between

Turing Test Frankenstein
From movies like Ex Machina, and WarGames, to Avengers: Age of Ultron, each one accurately
depicts what will happen to mankind in the case that Artificial Superintelligence is created; utter
destruction and complete decimation. AI is one of the scariest inventions possible, as they get smarter
and smarter every time they are improved. Eventually, AI is going to become so intelligent that they
will be able to recode themselves in order to become sentient the ability to feel emotions. To
determine if a robot (or AI in this case) is sentient, they must undergo a test known as The Turing Test
. The Turing Test suggests that if the creation is able to identify an object accurately, then they are
sentient alike a human. (Baer 3) There is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example for this reasoning would be the constraints: Human intelligence has been optimized to
deal with specific constraints, like passing the head through the birth canal and calorie conservation,
whereas artificial intelligence will operate under different constraints... (Graves 2) Humans are
evolved to deal with certain events, but AI are simply created there is no birthing process or anything
of that matter; so there is a question: What would their constraints be? Then there is the issue of the
constraints of human intelligence, And trying to build a human like AI system, without first fully
understanding what makes humans tick could make the problem worse. (Graves 5) In order to create a
human like AI, the creators must first understand what it means to be human, and the extent of human
intelligence. If the creators simply created the being without knowing the constraints of humans, they
would create a monster that, alike Frankenstein s monster, would terrorize the population. In addition,
is the issue of the intellectual advantage the AI would have over humans. As stated by the source, It is

Colombia History
Colombia actually hasn t always been called Colombia and its first name was the Republic of
Colombia. That name came from the viceroyalty lands that was made up of other Latin American
countries, which split apart in 1818 and was when Colombia then adopted its new name. Now their
capital is Bogota. The country itself actually sits in quite a scenic place with oceans and mountains all
around them. Colombia is in the northern part of South America, between Panama and Venezuela and
is also bordering the Caribbean sea(cia). Colombia usually has cool tropical weather with flat coastal
lowlands, High lands, The andes and some great plains. Their total area is approximately twice the

Views on Marriage and Divorce in Tolstoy s Anna Karenina...
Marriage and family are prevailing themes in the major works of Tolstoy. In War Peace the marriage
of Pierre to Hélène is later contrasted with that of Pierre s later marriage with Natasha (among others)
and in Anna Karenina, the novel is in some ways two separate stories of two separate marriages. On
one hand is the union between Levin and Kitty and on the other is Anna Arkádyevna and Alexéy
Karenin. One is a marriage coming together, while the other is one breaking apart. Based on the
characterization of the players involved, coupled with parallels to Tolstoy s own life it is possible to
discern his philosophy towards marriage and therefore why each character s fate was chosen at the
outset.
Although there are two main marriages in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From the first page we are given an image of marriage as an unhappy union contrasted with the love
struck Levin, who sees marriage as the apex of happiness and essential to his life.
Before we go on, it would be useful to show just how similar Tolstoy is to his protagonist, Levin, as he
embodies much of Tolstoy s philosophy while mirroring much of his life. The parallels begin with
Levin s interest in agriculture, its relation to the Russian peasant, and his love of country life. Prior to
Tolstoy s second year examinations at university, he left to settle at his ancestral estate in the country.
His plan was to improve the lot of his peasants, but could never surmount the distrust of the peasantry
(Maude, 45). This was similar to the attempt made by Levin to improve his peasants lives through
sharecropping and other innovations (part III, chapter 28, pg. 309). Like Levin s wife Kitty, Tolstoy s
wife Sonya was city bred and upon moving to the country had a difficult time adjusting. Both Sonya
and Kitty were thrown into being country mistresses, having very little familiarity with how to
properly do so, compounded by the unfamiliarity they felt with their husband s earlier lives. Although
the previous points establish a correlation, the most compelling parallel between Tolstoy and Levin
was their philosophies concerning life and the idealized family life: The fundamental aim

Whitlam Scandal In Australia
THE WHITLAM DISMISSAL The Constitutional dilemma of 1975, also referred to as The Dismissal
, was one of the most chaotic eras in Australia s political history. The Australian Labor Party sailed to
victory in the 1972 federal election and Gough Whitlam s government was ready to propose and
implement large numbers of bills and reform policies. After many successes in areas including law
reform, the relatively new Whitlam government constantly made mistakes and was getting caught by
the public and the opposition. Countering these scandals, the Liberal party attempted to block all
money bills from being passed in the Senate. The government was running out of money to run the
country. Gough Whitlam was dismissed on 11 November 1975 by the then ... Show more content on

In 1974, this improved Senate was not helping the Whitlam government pass its money bills,
especially because of their reduced majority in the Upper house. Particularly six important money
bills, which need to be passed in order for the government to run the country, were each denied twice.
In a case like this the elected government can arrange a Double Dissolution, which dissolves both the
Upper and Lower houses and a vote is put to the people to elect an entirely different parliament. A
Double Dissolution was called by the Whitlam government in late 1974; it was re elected still not
having a majority in the Senate but a majority in the House of Representatives. The Parliamentary
Deadlock convention, existing in the Constitution, granted the Whitlam government the power to call
a joint sitting of parliament and (again) review the six money bills that were all rejected prior to the
dissolving of parliament. The Labor party had a majority in the sitting and passed the six bills that
they proposed. Gough Whitlam called the only joint sitting of parliament that has ever been

Observing Social Behavior In Better Call Saul
Observing Social Behavior Social behavior is everywhere in society, hence why I didn t go far to
observe it. I observed social behavior by watching the first episode of Better Call Saul with no sound,
observing only the characters actions and the setting, to try and decipher the plot. By doing this, I have
gathered what I trust to be, the plot of the show. I believe it s a flashback to a young lawyer, James
McGill, trying to make it in his field. Between the struggle to make it and present day, something has
gone wrong. He is very skittish and afraid someone is going to come after him. We see this when he is
working at his present job, as a Cinnabon employee, and a man is staring at him. James starts
panicking, you can see him gulp down his spit, he is afraid this man is after him, but then the man
goes to greet his others outside the entrance and James is relieved. He then goes home to an empty
house which is nicer than what a Cinnabon worker could afford and then the scene changes and the
flashback begins. At the time, I couldn t tell this was a flashback, originally believing it was just
another character. Throughout careful observation, I came up with the theory of the show being a
flashback of James McGill s life.
The flashback starts in a court room and the entire room of people look annoyed, as if they are waiting
for someone. The lawyer is pacing back and forth, talking to himself, showing his nerves about the
case in the men s restroom. When he finally enters the

Operations for the intervention was designed to mirror implementation strategies employed in public
clinics so as to develop a scalable delivery approach.
The clinics recruited HIV serodiscordant couples through referrals from voluntary counselling and
testing centers, antenatal clinics and ART clinics. Community outreach events were also conducted
and this promoted couples based HIV testing.
The couples were of ≥ 18 years of age. Besides this they were sexually active and were to remain as a
couple for at least one year. When the couples were being enrolled, the HIV negative partners had
never used PrEP before. They also had a normal renal function, were not pregnant or breast feeding
and were not infected with hepatitis B virus. For the HIV positive partners, they were not using ART
at the time of enrollment. If the HIV positive partner had WHO stage III or HIV disease condition that
required immediate need for ART, the couples were excluded.
STUDY PROCEDURE
The couples were to attend study visits together for a period of 24 months whereby a series of couples
based HIV prevention counselling, including condoms use and management of sexually transmitted
infections were delivered.
Participants were required to undergo monthly visits, which included dispensation of 30 days of study

American Cultural And Social Tensions Reflected In Film
This essay will show how in many cases the reflection of the current social and cultural events has
impacted the cinema. Over the history of the industry, many of the more impactful events have been
written into screenplays and then into the films of the day. Although creative license may have been
utilized in the presentations, there is an awfully large volume of events to film productions.
American Cultural and Social Tensions Reflected in Films
Throughout the development of the motion picture industry the relationship between movies and
culture and social tensions, involves a complicated dynamic. American movies are certainly

An Analysis of Important Motifs in Sound and Editing
Sound and editing are both very crucial concepts in film. In Tom Tykwer s Run Lola Run (1998), the
way the narrative structure is set up can make the differentiation of diegetic and non diegetic sound
difficult for the viewer. The relationship between sound and the narrative structure, however, also
makes the viewer more aware of the film s artificiality. In King Hu s Come Drink With Me (1966), we
see how the major motifs of editing emphasize the unrealistic and fantasy qualities of the characters.
Tom Tykwer s Run Lola Run is a change in the structure of narrative as we commonly see it. A
standard narrative consists of a beginning where there is a sense of normality, a disruption of that
normality that transitions into the middle, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These screams have an interesting connection to the rhythm of the film; each scream happens at a
different point in time. In the first scenario, it happens in the beginning, then in the middle during the
second scenario, and at the end in the final scenario.
The music interacts with dialogue in the film; the techno beat is, at times, accompanied by vocals,
which correspond with not only what is happening in the scene, but also the internal diegetic dialogue
another important motif.
Never, Never, Never, Never, letting go/Never giving up, Never saying no/Just go, go, I never stop/I
never think/To do, do, do, the right thing/I want to go/I want to fight/I want to rush/I want to run/I
want to see you again/Under the setting sun/We will kiss/We will laugh/We will be a part/Of what is
said to be/A union of the heart
These vocals become more prevalent in the second part of the film, after Lola failed the first time. We
understand from the visuals and Lola s internal thoughts that she means to succeed. Noise is possibly
one of the most important parts of sound in this film. There are so many different motifs, the most
prevalent being the clicking sound. The film opens with the credits and the ticking of clocks. The
ticking of the clocks is both diegetic and nondiegetic; At times when the clocks are shown onscreen, it
is obvious that those sounds are heard by the characters whereas often the ticking is used as not only a
reminder of time, but also

The Key Concepts Of The United States Recognition And...
2.1 Key concepts
De facto states: From the Greek polis to nowadays sovereign state, the concept of state has changed
and evolved during time. Today, the 1933 Montevideo Convention sets the rights and duties of state.
Each sovereign state as a person of international law should possess the following qualifications: (a)
permanent population; (b) defined territory; (c) government; and (d) capacity to enter into relations
with the other states. By contrast, a de facto state is, a secessionist entity capable of delivering
governmental services while maintaining effective control over a given population and territory (Pegg
1998). Yet, if de facto states fulfil, the first three criteria mentioned above, they have usually a limited
capacity to enter in relation with other states, precisely, because they are denied official existence
through non recognition. The ultimate goal of these states is to achieve recognition and constitutional
independence (Lynch 2004). The recognition act can be seen or used as a discretionary power (of
sovereign states) mainly of a political nature. However, the criteria defined by the convention are very
limitative, and oversee only official status, not the way a state functions or should function. In another
word, what technically, differentiate de facto state vis à vis of any other sovereign state is related to
the fulfilment of the last criterion. Hence, if the key element is the recognition, one may wonder why
this recognition seems hard to obtain.

Town And Country Insurance Essay
Be proud of what you do, insurance is important. These are the words owner Nancy Pogatchnik chose
from a sermon she gives to new employees. This is what she regards as one of the most important
things she has learned after 33 years at Town Country Insurance. Once a small business in Finlayson,
Town Country has expanded into multiple locations and acquisitions across Minnesota. Last week,
Town Country Insurance celebrated its 40th anniversary of serving the locals of Pine County. Town
Country Insurance was originally founded in 1977 by one of the three current owners, Duke
Pogatchnik. The business was initially a separate bank business that became an insurance company.

Finlayson Backpack program, U of M Masonic Children s Hospital and the Aitkin School Math a thon
(which benefitted St. Jude s children hospital). This year they plan to give away $10,000. They have
so far donated over $2,700 this year. They are doing a big push toward Giving to the Max day in
November (a program that raised over $20.1 million last year). In December, they will be doing a 12
days of Christmas program, where they will spin the wheel once per day for 12 days to see who wins a
cash donation. Part of the process of donating is their employees nominate a charity. The nominated
charities are entered into a drawing and whichever one is drawn is the recipient of the cash donation.
This year, the business will decide the recipient charity by spinning a wheel. It adds more excitement,
says Nancy, when compared to just deciding a charity by drawing out of a hat. For the staff at Town
Country, they love to give back to the community. They are very thankful for the support their
customers have shown in helping them

Acts Of Insanity
Insanity is a chemical imbalance in the brain. According to the legal definition, this can urge one to
behave spontaneously, have a false sense of reality, and be incapable of dealing with situations in a
healthy manner. Speaking of madness, one night, an assassination took place. A plain old man
prepared for his slumber, unaware that Death was inching closer by the second, coming for his vulture
eye. Even less mindful that he was going to wind up severed under the floorboards of his very home.
However, was this an act of insanity or the workings of a murderer?
Clearly, the killer carefully planned the murder beforehand as for the statement, For seven nights I did

How Do Specific Enzymes Affect The Reaction Rate Of Reaction
Introduction Specific enzymes made up of proteins are used in biology to speed up a chemical
reaction of any kind. Since a spontaneous chemical reaction can occur without help from any outside
energy it could potentially prolong the reaction to where it becomes almost unnoticeable since it can
take years for it to happen. For this reason, enzymes take action as a catalyst that speed up the reaction
rate without completely being absorbed (Campbell et al., 2010). Enzymes are a form of regulation that
allow for a through pathway in chemical reactions. It is able to perform as a catalyst by lowering the
activation energy which is the energy required to drive the reactant to the top of the energy barrier
allowing the downhill part to begin. An

Jane Paul s Case Study
Plaintiff Jane Paul moves the Court for its order barring Defendant or his witnesses from referring to
or presenting any evidence or argument regarding Ms. Paul s past alcoholism, her DWI conviction, or
the Defendant s religious beliefs, because such evidence is irrelevant and could unduly prejudice the
jury. A fair trial requires that the jury consider only the evidence relevant to the issues. Ford v.
Gordon, 990 S.W.2d 83, 85 (Mo. Ct. App. 1999). Evidence is relevant only if it tends to prove or
disprove a fact at issue or bears on the witness s credibility. Id. For example, while a witness s
reputation for being truthful is relevant, the witness s character flaws unrelated to truthfulness are not;
such evidence is usually offered only to prejudice the jury. State v. Eisele, 414 S.W.3d 507, 515 (Mo.

A party s religious beliefs are, at best, merely tangential evidence of good character, which is not
admissible to show that the party abstained from wrongdoing on a specific occasion. Rhineberger v.
Thompson, 202 S.W.2d 64, 71 (Mo. 1947). A defendant s religious beliefs are relevant only in the
limited circumstance that the plaintiff proves a link between such beliefs and actual issues in the case.
See Ficker v. Ficker, 62 S.W.2d 496, 499 (Mo. Ct. App. 2001) (parent s membership in religious cult
held relevant in custody hearing, due to alleged adverse impact of cult beliefs on children). Here,
defendant s religious beliefs not only have come about after the occurrence, but have no bearing on
the claim at all. This mandatory requirement of relation to the issues of the claim could not be more
absent. To allow such evidence could only serve to confuse and prejudice the jury in the Defendant s
favor.
B. The Court should exclude evidence of plaintiff s struggles with

A Comparison Of The Bachelor And The Bachelorette Franchise
If there was a topic that I was an expert in, it would be The Bachelor and The Bachelorette franchise,
and that is exactly what it is, a franchise. I have watched the shows since I was a little girl, I remember
watching them with my mother at a young age and now I watch them with my friends. I have not
watched every season, but I have watched a plenty. Many people do watch the show for entertainment
or so they believe, but studies have shown that it perpetrates the way that people think about love and
life. Although, they do get entertainment from it, often people will leave the show feeling entertained,
amused, cheered up, or stimulated. (ARTICLE)
Some background information on the show, The Bachelorette; it is based off of the show The
Bachelor. The concept of the show centers around one woman finding love within a group of 25
suitors. A season typically only lasts 7 or 8 episodes, which is normally filmed over a span of 3
months. The first episode is primarily introducing the different men to the woman, with her only
learning their names and a few things about each of them. Throughout the middle of the season, she
will go on group dates and individual dates with all of the men. Each week she gives out roses to the
men that she would like to keep around and further develop relationships with. In the last episode,
there are 2 men remaining. They will meet her family and go on one final date. On the last day, she
will be standing in a beautiful destination

Karzan Soundtrack
The Tarzan soundtrack stands out from the rest of the Disney line up as it was the first Disney
soundtrack to be recorded in multiple languages. It has won both an oscar and grammy. This is due to
Phil Colins influence on the music and his creation of original songs that shape the world of Tarzan.
The reason the sound in Tarzan works so well is because it s harmonious with the story being
presented to the audience. Besides setting the scene with background noise, it helps the audience to
understand the film on an emotional level and builds the characters.

contributes to the audience understanding Clayton s violent nature. (1:08:47) After the crew hijacks

but this time we see Clayton s villainous nature. (1:15:40) Then when Tarzan has Clayton cornered, he

  • 2. Hubert Berke Research Paper The prolific German painter Hubert Berke was born in 1908 in Buer and died in 1979 in Cologne. Before his transition into fine arts, Berke educated himself in languages, later studying philosophy, art history and theology at universities in Münster and Königsberg (1931 2). After a year of education under the painter Fritz Burmann at the Academy of Fine Arts, Berke left Königsberg for Düsseldorf, where he was a student of Paul Klee. Both in his oils and watercolors, Berke was oscillating between Informel painting and the modernist traditions from cubism and abstraction, to expressionism. Later on, in the mid 50s, the artist started to employ three dimensional materials into his canvases, such as nails. The following years, Berke extended his artistic vocabulary through sculptures, objects, or stained glass windows. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the years of his artistic activity, educating himself and later working in several cities, Mense greatly contributed to movements such as the Cologne Secession, New Objectivity, Magic Realism and the Young Rhineland, both as a painter and exhibition organizer. Mense started his studies at the Academy of Arts in Düsseldorf (1906 8), and continued at the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin (1909 12) and School of Art in Weimar (1909 10), later appointed professor at the Academy of Arts and Crafts in Wrocław (1925 32). In the 30s, Mense was appreciated as a teacher and artist, just to mention the esteemed Villa Massimo prize (1933), however, his art was banned by the Third Reich regime; his works, defined as degenerate , were included in Entartete Kunst exhibition in 1937. The art of Carlo Mense is still a subject to a number of exhibitions, more recently displayed at the Kunstmuseum in Bonn (2013), Ludwig Museum in Cologne (2012), Jewish Museum (2004) and Brücke Museum in Berlin (2002), among many ... Republican Revolution Research Paper The Republican Revolution, Revolution of 94 or Gingrich Revolution refers to the Republican Party (GOP) success in the 1994 U.S. midterm elections,[1] which resulted in a net gain of 54 seats in the House of Representatives, and a pickup of eight seats in the Senate. The day after the election, conservative Democrat Senator Richard Shelby of Alabama changed parties, becoming a Republican. The Democrats only picked up 4 seats in the House, all of which were open seats. No Republican incumbents were defeated at any level. Rather than campaigning independently in each district, Republican candidates chose to rally behind a single national program and message fronted by Georgia congressman Newt Gingrich. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There was a return to a monophonic texture for the cello and the dynamics became pianissimo. Since this movement s form was ostinato, I heard short melodic, rhythmic, and harmonic patterns repeated. This piece was long, at twelve minutes, and at one point I stopped taking notes, in awe of what I was hearing. The entire piece felt symmetrical to me and was sing able throughout. Beethoven s Sonata 3, Opus 69 nears a close with a texture that was heterophonic, dynamics that go from forte to piano and a bright tone color for cello and piano. The melody remained conjunct with a contour that was wavelike, by ascending and descending, especially for the piano. The tempo returned to allegro throughout this piece and ended with the dynamics returning to forte and the final cadence as the harmony resolved in consonance. The second movement of Beethoven s Sonata in A Major, Opus 69 was Scherzo: Allegro molto and began with Jordan Anders playing the opening notes of the melody in a narrow range with a melodic movement that was conjunct. The texture here was monophonic for only a few measures. The timbre of the piano was bright and the harmony was minor. I heard the second movement in triple meter, and by the time the cello began to play there seemed to be a return to the polyphonic texture which was common in the first movement. The movement of the melody was disjunct with a medium range, the dynamics of the piano soft (piano) and the tempo ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Settlements Of The Treaty Of Waitangi Essay The Settlements of the Treaty of Waitangi. The treaty of Waitangi is considered to be the founding document of the English and European control and settlement in New Zealand. After the treaty s signing in 1840 it has played a huge role in legal affairs and the treatment of both European New Zealanders and Maori New Zealanders. Though there is dispute as to the correct or incorrect translation from English to Maori and vice versa, the treaty has on the whole created a harmonious existence between the two cultures. In 1832 after a plea for help and protection sent to the French and English by the Maori, the English sent James Busby to be the British Resident in New Zealand, which would lead to the later appointment of William Hobson as the Lieutenant Governor of New Zealand. In 1834 James Busby drafted a document known as the Declaration of Independence of New Zealand . This was signed by himself and 35 Northern Maori chiefs in 1835 appointing those chiefs as the representatives of a state under the name of the United Tribes of New Zealand . This document was not popular in the Colonial Office in England and it seemed that a corrective document was needed for New Zealand. This document ended up being the Treaty of Waitangi. Hobsons instructions are the basis for all Waitangi Tribunal claims and settlements, the instructions were issued to him by James Stephen of the Colonial office on behalf of Queen Victoria. The instructions were as follows: All dealings with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Peregrine Pickle Analysis The passage from The Adventures of Peregrine Pickle by Tobias Smollett explores the overwhelming love of a brother and a lover as well as the other emotions that come with that love as they fight with words and sword over their love, Emilia. Mr. Pickle is in love with Emilia and is speaking with Godfrey Gauntlet who is the brother of Emilia. Through the strong dialogue between characters and the pacing of their battles, time is given to build up stronger characters and inform us of the deeper emotions connecting the two. Godfrey is the first to speak, with dialogue starting immediately, demanding of Mr. Pickle what his objective is with his sister. Mr. Pickle responds with a question regarding why he should tell Mr. Gauntlet, knowing full ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The formal tone used in the words between them creates arrogance and a sarcastic tone, especially by Mr. Pickle. The use of such words prompts a deeper look at the dialogue and slows the reader down. The second battle between them has a much faster pacing with many of the next sentences dealing with the preparation of battle and the taunts by Mr. Godfrey of being an expert swordsman. It explains that Godfrey would have used pistols which would be potentially more lethal than swords had Mr. Pickle not made his studies in science. The sword fight ends shortly after Mr. Godfrey draws first blood and Mr. Pickle becomes overzealous and over thrusts resulting in the shattered sword and a win for Godfrey. The quick pacing makes it seem as if there is no match for Godfrey and that a fight with him is not to be taken lightly. However, Godfrey is a respectful man who will not take a man s life for granted despite his emotions getting the better of him when speaking with Mr. Pickle. Godfrey exits to leave Peregrine to reflect and Godfrey to have respect and dignity for another day. The narrative pace really emphasizes the fact that Mr. Pickle s character is that of a scientist and not that of a sword fighter while Godfrey is rather adept at fighting. His dialogue is sometimes ended with the word soldier letting us know background information and his taunt of being an expert sword fighter in the army could actually ... • 8. The Stories Of Cinderella, Snow White, And Sleeping Beauty Most of us grew up watching and reading the stories of Cinderella, Snow White and, Sleeping Beauty all of which were produced by Disney. But what if I told you that the versions you grew up watching and reading are far from the original versions depicted by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, better known as the Brothers Grimm. In their tale of Cinderella there was no fairy godmother, the step sisters cut off portions of their feet to fit into the slipper and none of the animals talked or sang, but rather plucked out the step sister s eyes as punishment for the mistreatment of Cinderella. Which begs the question, what inspired the brother s to write these types short stories, which are so not what is recognized today as a fairy tale ? The rags to riches tale of Cinderella (the Brothers Grimm version) the maiden later known as Cinderella goes from a beloved and cherished daughter, to a household slave after the death of her mother and father s remarriage to a cruel step mother and two heartless step sisters. To which is very similar to the Disney version most of us are familiar with today. The authors do a good job of laying out the magical portion of the tale which was created through the tears she shed every over the tree branch she planted at her mother s grave that flourished into a tree and produced a white bird at each of her visits that granted her whatever she wished for. • 9. Charles Dickens And The Victorian Era Charles Dickens and the Victorian Era The various themes and ideas of the Victorian era are perfectly showcased in the many novels and short stories of Charles Dickens. The writers of the Victorian era produced an enormous amount of the greatest novels to ever be written those that were realistic, thickly plotted, crowded with characters, and long. They, more often than not, showed the characteristics of the different social classes in society. Generally humorous, most books were targeted to the middle, as they could relate to them the most easily. Dickens own works have extensive plots woven throughout each of them, one in particular being that of Bleak House. That novel is considered to be Dickens longest and contains a grand total of fifty characters, all of which are interconnected by some standard. Its plot surrounds a mysterious murder and lawsuit. A large portion of Dickens inspiration for his works came from his own childhood and adolescence. He was born Charles John Huffam Dickens to parents John and Elizabeth on February 7, 1812. Charles was the second of their eight children. As a child, the family employed two servants. One was named Mary Weller, and she was instrumental in Charles life. She told him and his siblings made up stories, which she swore were true, and thus stretched his imagination and fascination for storytelling. His father was employed as a clerk in the ... The struggles contained within a class system are extreme in the Bong Joon ho film, Snowpiercer. Snowpiercer is a dystopian science fiction thriller depicting life within a train that encapsulates the last humans on a frozen earth. Those at the back of the train deal with unfathomable living conditions, which in turn inspires the main character, Curtis, to enact a revolution. The film portrays this revolution at both a personal and a social level, as its characters and other cinematic elements produce a fixed class structure. Those who rise up seek an enhanced social position and as a whole look to obliterate the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is a universal class system in place which uses invisible lines to differentiate those of wealth and the less fortunate. This class distinction is noticeably artificial, yet monetary gain changes every aspect of life. The influence of economic stability and affluence can cause people to develop a narrow mindset toward their ability to become successful. This same impious way of thinking is evident throughout the film as well. Chancellor Mason, a primary antagonist in Snowpiercer, holds this bigoted mentality. When pompously explaining predetermined positions in terms of class, she exclaims, When the foot seeks the place of the head, the sacred line is crossed...be a shoe. Mason is saying that the poor have no right to try to move up in the social ladder, and even hard work cannot change their position. This acts as a way of showing how such a parochial attitude is ridiculous, and how society is heavily dependent on a classist mentality. Presidential campaigns have been based around this class difference Obama s campaign was centered around providing security for the middle class so that those who reside in the upper class could not rob them blind. The overarching takeaway is that these classes are unfairly structured. Power and wealth are intertwined as those who seem to matter the most make all the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Statement of the Problem Do automated cashiers affect employment rates in supermarkets? Do automated cashiers enhance the shopping experience? Customers have traditionally been used to dealing with live cashiers in their supermarket shopping experience and in most cases, most customers still look forward to that experience. In the research, we found greater amounts of complaints over automated than employee operated checkouts. When these machines were first introduced, it seemed like a good business idea in order to increase productivity and reduce costs but that has not been the case. Customer satisfaction continues to diminish greatly in all of the major chains that started to lay off employees and insert these machines into their daily use. This is the case especially with the 55+ age group who have found themselves in longer lines and arguing with machines when for years prior to self service checkouts, they had the formality of the welcoming and warm words of employees at the checkouts. Also over the years, lines at employee operated registers have gotten longer because customers prefer to wait in line rather than to deal with the automated systems. Using the employee operated ... • 14. Comparison between the Great Gatsby and Macbeth Macbeth is one of Shakespeare s most intense plays and one his most complex psychological studies. It is also a play about which there is a great deal of historical background, which I think you ll find interesting because it reveals Shakespeare s creative process. The play was written in 1605 1606. It s one of the plays where the date is pretty firmly established by internal references to external events, and most scholars have agreed on the date. The historical Macbeth had become king in the year 1040 when he killed the previous king, Duncan, in battle. To put this in a historical context, this is hardly the Middle Ages; it s still the Dark Ages, as historians have termed the various stages of European history. It is 26 years before the Norman invasion of England, which is generally considered to be the beginning of the medieval period in Britain. In 1040 Macbeth became king and ruled for 17 years until he was overthrown and killed by Duncan s son, who became King Malcolm III. Malcolm is famous primarily because he married an English princess named Margaret who was later made a saint. According to the Scottish historian Archibald Duncan, little is known about Macbeth and his lovely wife Grunnich, except that they were pious and endowed a religious house at St. Andrew s (which is probably the caddy shack on the fourth green of that famous golf course joke). The couple went on a religious pilgrimage to Rome where, the chroniclers said, they sowed money like seed. (Many of us when we go on vacation do the same thing.) That s all we know for certain about the real Macbeth. Now the fact that Macbeth killed the previous king was not a big deal. Of the eight Scottish kings who ruled during this time, seven had died unnatural deaths, including several who burned to death until suspicious circumstances. It was highly unusual for a Scottish ... • 15. Development Of Modernism After World War II After the Second World War, attention immediately turned towards reconstructing a better world. Like the earlier world war, it destroyed a previous social and economic order (Curtis, 1996). Many of tall buildings were built to meet the large number of human requirements. Modernism was rapidly developed at that time. This essay aims to explore the development of modernism after World War II by compare and contrast the two apartments which are Hansaviertel Apartment in German and Society Hill Towers in the USA. It first discusses the similarity of the two chosen buildings. Then explains the difference of design, which includes surroundings, building form and the apartment layout. Furthermore, explore the factors lead to those difference which are policy, the influence of the other architects and architects own belief. As cities were destroyed during the war, there were increasing needs of buildings especially the apartments and houses. These two chosen projects have the same functions as apartments. They were both high rise buildings, which were built as a part of the redevelopment of the city after the war. The Hansaviertel Apartment was built in 1957, Berlin, Germany and designed by Alar Aalto. The other one is named Society Hill Towers in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I.M Pei is the designer for this apartment. However, if I had to absolutely decide, I would choose to get rid of Willie Keepum (even after considering his name hoping the name was not a hint). First, from a Human Resources and legal standpoint, it seems irresponsible to fire an entire group of workers. This cleaning house move could become extremely costly for Manny Flavors CC with regards to lawsuits and future personnel recruitment and training. Second, I am quite certain the workers are not the underlying problem. As it is hard to believe that every single one of the workers inherently has a bad attitude and is unwilling to work. Of course, there are likely some bad apples but all workers unlikely. The more believable situation is there is something causing all or most of the employees to act this way poor leadership from the top. Even if Willie started with a fresh new group of workers, their attitudes and motivation would probably decline to the same extent as the current workforce leaving Manny and the company in a similar situation. 2. Analyze Willie s management style and compare it to others that might be better. The management or leadership style that Willie uses is autocratic. The autocratic leader holds all power, authority, and control, essentially reserving the right to make all decisions. • 17. Making Peace In The Language Wars Analysis Probable Peace in the Language Wars Author Bryan A. Garner, in his article Making Peace in the Language Wars (published in Garner s Modern American Usage 3rd edition, Oxford University Press, 2009), seeks to negotiate a cease fire between two fighting countries, the prescriptivists and the descriptivists, by dispelling myths about each of their camps. First and foremost, Garner outlines the war is happening between the lines of our favorite novels and poetry, and he describes what each camp stands for. Prescriptivists desire to instruct the world around them on how to use the language by enforcing, or at the very least informing the general public about the rules of grammar. They are sometimes described as conservative and are very concerned ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the main problems that Garner points out is the fact that prescribers often deny the need for linguistic evidence. As they are typically rather leery of change, they tend to follow rules and enforce them ex cathedra. Meaning that they simply take the rules for what they are and never question them because they came from the ultimate authority. Prescriptivists tend to oppose any change in the rules, even when the rule has become outdated and the meaning of the words has changed. Garner saw this issue and aptly decided to support many of his entries with not only adequate evidence for how it should be used, but also evidence on how it is currently being used even if it is not necessarily correct. He explains that while much of himself resides in the prescriptive camp, he dips his foot in the descriptive camp every once in a while. Prescriptivists, while having their problems, also bring a lot to the table. The rules which they enforce essentially give the descriptivists the springboard that they need to describe the language around them. It is absolutely imperative that one knows the rules of the language before he goes out into the world to see whether people are following them or not. It is also absolutely vital to have the skill of higher language for formal occasions. Garner describes this need when he brings up the fantastic point of registers especially when making the distinction between speech ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On one hand is the union between Levin and Kitty and on the other is Anna Arkádyevna and Alexéy Karenin. One is a marriage coming together, while the other is one breaking apart. From the first page we are given an image of marriage as an unhappy union contrasted with the love struck Levin, who sees marriage as the apex of happiness and essential to his life. Before we go on, it would be useful to show just how similar Tolstoy is to his protagonist, Levin, as he embodies much of Tolstoy s philosophy while mirroring much of his life. The parallels begin with Levin s interest in agriculture, its relation to the Russian peasant, and his love of country life. Prior to Tolstoy s second year examinations at university, he left to settle at his ancestral estate in the country. His plan was to improve the lot of his peasants, but could never surmount the distrust of the peasantry (Maude, 45). This was similar to the attempt made by Levin to improve his peasants lives through sharecropping and other innovations (part III, chapter 28, pg. 309). Like Levin s wife Kitty, Tolstoy s wife Sonya was city bred and upon moving to the country had a difficult time adjusting. Both Sonya and Kitty were thrown into being country mistresses, having very little familiarity with how to properly do so, compounded by the unfamiliarity they felt with their husband s earlier lives. Although the previous points establish a correlation, the most compelling parallel between Tolstoy and Levin was their philosophies concerning life and the idealized family life: The fundamental aim ... I observed social behavior by watching the first episode of Better Call Saul with no sound, observing only the characters actions and the setting, to try and decipher the plot. By doing this, I have gathered what I trust to be, the plot of the show. I believe it s a flashback to a young lawyer, James McGill, trying to make it in his field. Between the struggle to make it and present day, something has gone wrong. He is very skittish and afraid someone is going to come after him. We see this when he is working at his present job, as a Cinnabon employee, and a man is staring at him. James starts panicking, you can see him gulp down his spit, he is afraid this man is after him, but then the man goes to greet his others outside the entrance and James is relieved. He then goes home to an empty house which is nicer than what a Cinnabon worker could afford and then the scene changes and the flashback begins. At the time, I couldn t tell this was a flashback, originally believing it was just another character. Throughout careful observation, I came up with the theory of the show being a flashback of James McGill s life. • 28. The Key Concepts Of The United States Recognition And... 2.1 Key concepts De facto states: From the Greek polis to nowadays sovereign state, the concept of state has changed and evolved during time. Today, the 1933 Montevideo Convention sets the rights and duties of state. Each sovereign state as a person of international law should possess the following qualifications: (a) permanent population; (b) defined territory; (c) government; and (d) capacity to enter into relations with the other states. By contrast, a de facto state is, a secessionist entity capable of delivering governmental services while maintaining effective control over a given population and territory (Pegg 1998). Yet, if de facto states fulfil, the first three criteria mentioned above, they have usually a limited capacity to enter in relation with other states, precisely, because they are denied official existence through non recognition. The ultimate goal of these states is to achieve recognition and constitutional independence (Lynch 2004). The recognition act can be seen or used as a discretionary power (of sovereign states) mainly of a political nature. However, the criteria defined by the convention are very limitative, and oversee only official status, not the way a state functions or should function. In another word, what technically, differentiate de facto state vis à vis of any other sovereign state is related to the fulfilment of the last criterion. Hence, if the key element is the recognition, one may wonder why this recognition seems hard to obtain. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Clearly, the killer carefully planned the murder beforehand as for the statement, For seven nights I did this, seven long nights, every night at midnight. Yet, maniacs are subject ... • 34. How Do Specific Enzymes Affect The Reaction Rate Of Reaction Introduction Specific enzymes made up of proteins are used in biology to speed up a chemical reaction of any kind. Since a spontaneous chemical reaction can occur without help from any outside energy it could potentially prolong the reaction to where it becomes almost unnoticeable since it can take years for it to happen. For this reason, enzymes take action as a catalyst that speed up the reaction rate without completely being absorbed (Campbell et al., 2010). Enzymes are a form of regulation that allow for a through pathway in chemical reactions. It is able to perform as a catalyst by lowering the activation energy which is the energy required to drive the reactant to the top of the energy barrier allowing the downhill part to begin. An ... • 35. Jane Paul s Case Study Plaintiff Jane Paul moves the Court for its order barring Defendant or his witnesses from referring to or presenting any evidence or argument regarding Ms. Paul s past alcoholism, her DWI conviction, or the Defendant s religious beliefs, because such evidence is irrelevant and could unduly prejudice the jury. A fair trial requires that the jury consider only the evidence relevant to the issues. Ford v. Gordon, 990 S.W.2d 83, 85 (Mo. Ct. App. 1999). Evidence is relevant only if it tends to prove or disprove a fact at issue or bears on the witness s credibility. Id. For example, while a witness s reputation for being truthful is relevant, the witness s character flaws unrelated to truthfulness are not; such evidence is usually offered only to prejudice the jury. State v. Eisele, 414 S.W.3d 507, 515 (Mo. Ct. App. 2013) (holding that evidence of witness s use of profanity was irrelevant to witness s credibility ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A party s religious beliefs are, at best, merely tangential evidence of good character, which is not admissible to show that the party abstained from wrongdoing on a specific occasion. Rhineberger v. Thompson, 202 S.W.2d 64, 71 (Mo. 1947). A defendant s religious beliefs are relevant only in the limited circumstance that the plaintiff proves a link between such beliefs and actual issues in the case. See Ficker v. Ficker, 62 S.W.2d 496, 499 (Mo. Ct. App. 2001) (parent s membership in religious cult held relevant in custody hearing, due to alleged adverse impact of cult beliefs on children). Here, defendant s religious beliefs not only have come about after the occurrence, but have no bearing on the claim at all. This mandatory requirement of relation to the issues of the claim could not be more absent. To allow such evidence could only serve to confuse and prejudice the jury in the Defendant s favor. B. The Court should exclude evidence of plaintiff s struggles with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. A Comparison Of The Bachelor And The Bachelorette Franchise If there was a topic that I was an expert in, it would be The Bachelor and The Bachelorette franchise, and that is exactly what it is, a franchise. • 37. Karzan Soundtrack The Tarzan soundtrack stands out from the rest of the Disney line up as it was the first Disney soundtrack to be recorded in multiple languages. It has won both an oscar and grammy. This is due to Phil Colins influence on the music and his creation of original songs that shape the world of Tarzan. The reason the sound in Tarzan works so well is because it s harmonious with the story being presented to the audience. Besides setting the scene with background noise, it helps the audience to understand the film on an emotional level and builds the characters. Phil Colin contributions to the sound palette of the film includes drums and vocalizations that give it an African aesthetic. The music follows the narrative, getting soft when needed, ...
