REQUIRED?
Chantellle Clark
CODE OF ETHICS AND
SCHOOL COMMUNITY
 Professional Code of ethics is the foundation
of school character and values. They are
codes established to set one’s school apart
from others .
 The type of school may reflect the content
of ethical code. Public schools may acquire
different professional ethical standards than
private schools or those affiliated with a
religious schools
• Mending cultures
• Establishing expectations
TYPE OF SCHOOLS
• Public Schools/Private
• Standard ethical guidelines relevant to the general school body
• Promotes equality, kindness, and honesty
• Professional Teachers are most likely to posses these in the personal values
• Protects the laws of society
• Believe in the success of every student
TYPES OF SCHOOLS(CONT’D)
 Integrates faith-based principles in code
 Ethical code rely heavily on specific religious guidelines
 Christian schools adopt code of ethics that promotes Christ-like morals in personal and
professional life
 Teachers must display themselves in a manner that will not negatively influence the
students religious and professional life

 Religious Schools
THE BLACK AND WHITE OF WHAT IS
RIGHT
 Professional codes of education protects schools and communities from actions contributing
from opposing viewpoints
 Exceptional Professional code of ethics declarations will clearly establish the boundaries and
expectations that are fulfilled by students and teachers
 Creates unity of approach
 Teachers should use their schools code of ethics when making informed professional decisions
 According to the National Association for Educators (1994-2015), “The professional educator deals
considerately and justly with each student, and seeks to resolve problems, including discipline, according
to law and school policy”.
 Teachers under the ethical code have a responsibility to carry themselves in a manner that reflects this code.
 An example, we notice Johnny bullying another kid. Johnny is a school student and disciplining him may
forfeit his scholarship to college in the fall. Our personal preference may be ignoring the situation, but the
professional decision must be decision must be made in a manner that will meet the code of ethics criteria
 No one is exempt from following the professional code of ethics
GUIDING OUR DISPOSITIONS
 Students under the guidance of
teachers following professional code
of ethics are more likely to have
increase critical thinking and rational
decision skills(Aloni, 2008)
 Following professional codes will
enhance our intellectual virtues in
personal and professional lives
 Superb ethical standards separates
effective and ineffective teachers
 Poor professional ethics increase the
risk of an environment of
 Cheating
 Bullying
 Low performance
 Lack self-respect and for others
