2. " One of the reasons institutions
such as schools need to be able to
work towards a common set of
ethics and values is because they
are microcosms of society as a
whole"
Knowles, G., & Lander, Vini. (2012). Thinking Through Ethics and values in
primary education.
3. In this presentation, I will summarize
the importance of establishing and
ethical code in education and defend
my position using what I have learned
during this course.
4. An Ethical Code Would Assist In
Professional Decision Making By:
Making teachers aware of professional obligations
Providing educators with a common guideline that
governs their actions to aid in their decision making
process
Helping educators recognize their limits on how and
when they should intervene and respond to particular
situations ( S. Mackenzie, G. Calvin, 2010)
5. An Ethical Code Would Address Personal
And Community Values because:
It aligns the personal and professional values of the
school system and educators with the expectations
of the community
The school and it's educators professional values are
determined by the communities expectations
It requires educators to maintain high moral
standards in order to meet community expectations
" What you value about how children learn will impact on the ethics of how
you go about teaching ".
Knowles, G., & Lander, Vini. (2012). Thinking Through Ethics and values in primary
education.
6. An Ethical Code Would Assist In The Potential
Conflict Of Ethical And Legal Concerns By:
Establishing an ethical code to provide educators
with a guideline to follow reducing the
possibility of ethical conflict and legal concern
Providing educators with an ethical structure to
follow that will help to defend and support their
actions by proving that they acted within the
ethical and legal limitations
7. As you can see from this presentation,
there are many reasons why an ethical
code is important in education. An
ethical code ensures that teachers are
acting in an ethical manner while
enhancing the learning experience of
their students and meeting the
communities expectations.
