1. Radio shows Evaluation
For our unit we were asked to produce three news local news stories which we think people will be
interested in. For my stories I choose college food prices, college cash machine and the Berlin trip,
as you can see all my stories have something in common and that is they all relate to college. I
wanted to broadcast stories that the students of Eccles College could relate too, which makes it
easier to listen to.
I wanted to make my news stories clear consist and correct so I had to take out certain measures to
make sure I had the best outcome. When recording my news story I spoke clearly and cleared my
voice making sure I didn’t sound funny but made sure people could understand me. This is one of
the reason why I went and recorded in a quite spot without any background noise. I didn’t want the
background noise to be louder than my own voice due to not being a very loud speaker. I also
wanted to make sure my stories flowed and that there weren’t any silent moments therefore I
needed to make it consist. If I didn’t like the way one of my stories sounded I would re-record until I
was happy. My college food prices story was the hardest to film because I kept laughing in-between
takes. As I continued to recorded I got use to hearing my own voice and began to take it seriously
which helped me record my other stories professionally.
I made a survey for my fellow classmates to fill in which shows me which news story they liked most
and how I can improve. When looking at the feedback I received I was very pleased with the answers
that people had given me. The most important question to me was “Do you think I can improve and
how?”I wanted to know how I could improve from different people. One comment said AI could of
used background noise to make it more authentic. If I could go back and do my stories again I would
take this comment on bored and include background noise. I do agree with the comment and think it
was a valid point.
When asking what news story appealed to people the most I received different answers, some chose
college food prices and then some chose the Berlin trip. I think this due to the fact that if people can
relate to the news story they’re going to like that one better. Some of the people I asked aren’t
going on the Berlin trip therefore wouldn’t feel as connected to that story.
In my opinion I think my news stories worked very well and their all news stories I can get into and
that relate to me. However if I had the chance to re do my news stories I would make each one a
different length as I feel that 30 seconds isn’t long enough to fit the relevant information into. I had
a lot of trouble fitting everything I wanted to say into 30 seconds and had to cut a lot of information
out. In order to fit my information into Photoshop I used a template which guided me and how many
words I could fit into 30 seconds. When I was writing up my first draft for my stories I wrote quite a
lot because I wanted to fit loads of information into my story. However when I opened the template
I realised that I would need to get rid of a lot of information therefore I picked the most important
parts. However when I looked at my feedback, one of the questions I asked was “Would you prefer
the news stories to be conducted longer?” and all the answers where “They are fine as they are”.
This reassured me that 30 seconds is long enough and that my news stories where still effective even
though they weren’t that long.
