Soda Is Not Only Unhealthy
Introduction Soda is not only unhealthy because it is a sugary drink, but it is also the most acidic
thing that people drink on a daily basis. Knowing this the question, which sodas will release the
most carbon dioxide when mixed with hydrochloric acid arose. In addition, knowing background
information about what it is that is being tested is very important. When it is said that soda is acidic
that may catch people off guard, but how acidic soda is goes across as an even bigger surprise. The
acidity of something is measured using pH. The pH scale is a way to measure the amount of
hydrogen available to form a chemical bond. Containing a pH of 7 means that it is neutral in the
acidity it contains. Soda has a pH of about 2.5 which is about the same pH as vinegar. To put this
into perspective, battery acid has a pH of 1 and water has a pH of 7. Soda is closer in pH to battery
acid rather than water in the amount of acid it contains. An interesting fact found was, "A pH below
4 or above 10 will kill most fish and very few animals can tolerate waters with a pH below 3 or
above 11" ("8 Reasons Why People Drink Soda & 16 Reasons To Give Up Soda Drinking").
Hydrochloric acid can have range of the pH. This is determined on the concentration it is at.
Muriatic acid is another name for hydrochloric acid. It can be found in the home in different
cleaners. This acid is very poisonous ("Hydrochloric Acid"). Since the hydrochloric acid is secreted
in the stomach, it is able

Persuasive Essay On Soda Drinks
In order to persuade a group of Consumer we will need to understand the phycology for Soda
drinking customers and their expectations and style of choosing their drink. The normal soda soft
drink vending machine shells shoppers with decisions. Would you incline toward a cola or a natural
product pop? Do you need eating regimen or something full enhanced? Regardless of every one of
these decisions, individuals tend to pick a most loved brand and stay with it for quite a long time.
They expend gallons of a specific pop while to a great extent disregarding alternate flavors available
to be purchased. Offer an energetic pop consumer an example of a contending brand with an almost
indistinguishable item and they are probably going to dismiss it inside and out. The purpose behind
this has less to do with taste, and more to do with inconspicuous and cautious promoting with
respect to soda pop producers. The decision of a pop is as much about your identity as what you
need to drink. Pop creators adjust each part of their advertising from their bundling, to their mottos,
to the music that plays over their ads to make a character around their items. Choosing a Soda
Drink: Soda is an extraordinary item since it has no unequivocal reason. Drinking a container of
coke isn't important to get past the day. However, as indicated by the Centers for Disease Control,
half of Americans drink no less than one sugary drink each and every day. Pop creators are finding

Food And Non Alcoholic Beverages Industry Essay
Industry Background
SIC and NAICS
An industry as complex as the Food and Non–Alcoholic beverages industry must be coded by
organizing smaller sub–categories when referencing the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC)
system and the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS). These systems categorize
industries using codes to aid in analytical research for Federal statistical agencies. (United States
Census Bureau, 2012). A quick search using key words or the actual code will allow the viewer to
see the definition and characteristics of the industry. For example, Soft Drink Manufacturing can be
found using the NAICS code 312111 or the SIC code 2086. Under the NAICS system, Soft Drink
Manufacturing is defined as, establishments manufacturing soft drinks and artificially carbonated
waters. (United States Census Bureau, 2012). The SIC code 2086: Bottled and Canned Soft Drinks
and Carbonated Water, is located under Division D: Manufacturing, in the sub–category Major
Group 20: Food and Kindred Products. By definition, this industry is comprised of manufacturing
establishments that specialize in the production of canned or bottled soft drinks and artificially
carbonated water, such as soft drinks, tea, or coffee. (Occupational Safety and Health
Administration [OSHA], 2012).

The Detrimental Effects of Soda
What is your favorite soda? Coke? Do you know what is in soda? Cutting down on soda can lead to
a healthy and better lifestyle. Studies show that soda, though it tastes good, has many negative
effects that outweigh the positive effects. Soda, especially diet, is detrimental to the health of your
body.
My cousin 's teacher did an experiment with coke. She put a tooth in coke and left it for at least a
week. The next time they checked the tooth had disintegrated. The coke had eaten away at the tooth.
If this can happen to a tooth imagine what it does to your body.

Coke 's new C2 and Pepsi Edge hope to solve this problem without compromising taste but there are
still many other ingredients in C2 and Edge that can lead to obesity. Tooth Decay is another problem
affecting the US. Both sugar and phosphoric acid from sodas contribute to it and the soft drink
industry admits to it. But the NSDA (National Soft Drink Association) also says that soft drinks aren
't the sole cause of tooth decay.
A lot of sugary foods, from fruit juices to candy and even raisins and other dried fruit, have what
dentists refer to as cariogenic properties, which means they can cause tooth decay. Though other
foods have cariogenic properties soda definitely has the largest percentage of these properties.
A federally funded study of nearly 3,200 Americans 9 to 29 years old conducted between 1971 and
1974 showed a direct link between tooth decay and soft drinks. Numerous other studies have shown
the same link throughout the world, from Sweden to Iraq. Soda has become the number one choice
beverage in the US. The younger you start drinking soda daily the more likely you are going to
develop osteoporosis, tooth decay, and a myriad of other ailments when older. Soda is okay in
moderation but there are many alternatives. (Duyff) Soda is not the only beverage that can quench
your thirst there are a bonanza of other fluids. These are healthier than soda and can help you stay

The Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex
Introduction
The Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex is a great place for business. It is home to multiple companies and
their corporate headquarters – and with an international airport, open trade routes, multiple
universities and academic institutions – it proves to be the perfect location for businesses and
professionals alike. One such company that is headquartered in Plano, TX, and is an example of a
thriving organization in the area, is the Dr Pepper Snapple Group. A mostly domestic company, with
most of its business located in North American and Mexico, the DPS Group is a manufacturer of
nonalcoholic beverages in the beverage industry and is third in overall market share (after Coca–
Cola and Pepsico). The beverage industry is steady and growing, but the nonalcoholic beverage
portion of the industry is facing many challenges with carbonated soft drinks declining in sales due
to a more health–conscious population. Analyzing the DPS Group and how they are dealing with
these challenges was very interesting, as I have always been a Dr Pepper fan and would hate to see
them go out of business or die out in the market. I have known people who have worked for the
company and loved it, and I hope to work for them someday as well. I collected my research on the
company through their website, articles and journals, and my own knowledge of the company and
research into the company history through a visit to the Dr Pepper museum.

reasons why pop and soft–drinks are bad for personal health as well as the environment. Never the
less there have been an increase of obesity cases and children with diabetes caused solely by the
consumption of sugar filled beverages. The consumption of soft–drinks and other carbonated
beverages have multiple negative effects, and I want to briefly cover ten or so reason as to why soda
is hazardous to our bodies as well as some negative effects that drinking soda on a daily basis has on
the body. To begin, soft–drinks are nothing but flavored sugar water, which is completely unhealthy

The rats that were exposed and given more or excessive amounts of phosphates died on average five
weeks before the rats that have normal levels. This is quite frightening because canning plants and
manufactures over time have increased the amount of acids they put in their sodas. (FASEB 1) One
a side note, but still a concern to our environment is artificial sweeteners. So far scientist aren't sure
whether they are harmful to humans and our bodies, but what they do know is, is that the sweeteners
used in diet sodas cannot breakdown in our bodies. Scientist in Switzerland around 2009 tested
water treatment plants around the country and discovered that there were trace amounts of
acesulfame K, sucralose, as well as saccharin which are all used in the sweetening of diet sodas.
While not completely harmful, yet, to humans it still shows signs of interface with animals that live
near lakes and rivers. So now not only are sodas not good for humans, but is also causing problems
to animals. Back to the main subject of sodas and soft–drinks, targeting one brand in particular;

Soda Disturbs Our Teeth Research Paper
"Why am I not allowed to drink soda?" I thought as my mom told me not to drink soda. My whole
entire life I've been told that soda rots your teeth, that made me wonder how and what soda does to
your teeth. All sodas have phosphoric acid, caffeine, citric acid, and carbonated water. Another thing
is that soda disturbs tooth enamel. Even though soda is delicious, you should reduce the amount of
soda you drink because soda contains ingredients that are bad, soda damages your teeth , and
pennies get tarnished. There are many ingredients in soda that is bad for you. What is soda made of?
Soda is carbonated water that is flavored and sweetened with sugar. Soda is basically made of
carbonated water, sweeteners, phosphoric and citric acid, caffeine, and natural flavors. The natural
flavors added are from fruits, vegetables, nuts, leaves, herbs, and spices. Phosphoric acid is
purposely added to soft drinks because it gives them a sharper and tangier flavor. Citric acid and
phosphoric acid can not only prevent spoilage, but it also can weaken the bones. In order for me to

What causes soda to damage your teeth? Acids, dye, and sugar in soda can also harm your teeth,
even if you drink diet soda it will be just as bad or worse than drinking regular soda. Teeth enamel
hardens the outside of your teeth, protecting the dentin and pulp of the tooth from damage. Soda
contains acids such as phosphate and citric acid that weaken the tooth enamel. However, non–cola
drinks are less acidic but cause more enamel destruction than colas. Erosion from phosphoric acid
affects the entire tooth, tooth erosion happens when acids wear away the enamel on teeth. Caramel
dye yellows your teeth and weakened enamel makes it easier for teeth to become stained.Coke

The Pros And Cons Of Soda Tax
Recently, people have become worried about the health issues associated with consuming sugary
drinks, especially soda. The rate of people being diagnosed with type–2 diabetes and cardiovascular
disease has been going up primarily because of beverages with added sugar (Cited in Crawford,
2016). Several studies have found that soda is linked to over 180,000 deaths per year (Cited in
Crawford, 2016). An article by the Huffington Post (2011) said that an average American drinks
about 44.7 gallons of carbonated beverages a year, which adds up to over 350 pounds of soda.
Comparatively, in 2005 an average American drank only 0.5 gallons, making soft drinks the most
consumed beverage in America (n/a, 2011). The way the government is trying to fix ... Show more

Soft Drink Industry Case Study
1. Why, historically, has the soft drink industry been so profitable? There are several reasons why
the soft drink industry has been so profitable. One reason is because these soda companies directly
distribute to stores that sell their product. They do a good job in avoiding a middle man which
would cost a lot more. Instead, they handle all the packaging and bottling before the soda gets to the
shelf so they don't have to pay those extra costs associated with a middle man and keep all that
profit. Also, carbonated drinks are cheap to produce and have a high profit margin. Every aspect of
the making and bottling process is inexpensive so it makes it very easy to turn a profit. This is the
same for both bottles and fountain sales. For the fountain all you have to do is install the fountain
and then refill it so it is inexpensive. Another way they are profitable is because these soda
companies have contracts with stores making it impossible for competitors to sell their version of
CSD's in the same location. They put the contracts in place in order to avoid another company
selling and taking their profit and also so the stores and restaurants won't make it competitive for
them when it doesn't have to be. These soda companies also do a great job of sponsoring events in
which helps promote their products which in turn drives profit. These soda companies also partner
with certain locations in order to offer incentives if you buy the sodas. For example, if you buy a

History And Chemical Makeup Of Diet Soda Essay
Soft drinks are enormously popular beverages that consist primarily of carbonated water, sugar, and
flavorings. According to the International Journal of Technical Research and Applications, nearly
200 nations enjoy the sweet, sparkling soda with an annual consumption of more than 34 billion
gallons (2007). Soft drinks rank as America 's favorite beverage segment, representing 25% of the
total beverage market. In the early 1990's per capita consumption of soft drinks in the U.S. was 49
gallons, compared to the 34 gallon average consumption of the next most popular beverage, water.
This paper will focus on the history and chemical makeup of diet soda, how it affects your body and
what it does to your bones, and what happens when you stop drinking diet soda.
Soda goes back to ancient times when ancient Greeks and Romans would use mineral water because
of its medicinal properties. Soon mineral water was turned into flavored soda water, and gained
popularity not only for medicinal benefits but for the refreshing taste it has as well. In the late 1800's

While he was eating his dinner, he discovered that everything he touched tasted sweet. The next day

sweet taste. In an overheated beaker, he discovered that "o–sulfobenzoic acid had reacted with

There is a growing trend of overweight people living in America. This is nothing new however,
overseas Americans are known for being "fat" and "lazy", and for the most part it is hard to argue
otherwise. American's being overweight has become such a common trend, that when I walk down

anymore, because it has become commonplace, and obese American's may get a look here and there

Today you can go to Burger King, get two bacon cheeseburgers, French fries, and a small coke for
around $4. Without restaurants or fast food, eating would become more of a chore for most
American's because most of us don't want to be bothered with going to the supermarket, bringing
home all the proper ingredients and then cooking the food ourselves. Most American's would rather
go to a restaurant and pay a little more money then they would at a supermarket for their meal.
Soft drinks, in my opinion are also one of the biggest reasons why so many American's are
overweight today. Carbonated soft drinks account for more than 27 percent of Americans' beverage
consumption. In 1997, Americans spent over $54 billion to buy 14 billion gallons of soft drinks.
That is equivalent to more than 576 12–ounce servings per year or 1.6 12–ounce cans per day for

Effects Of Soda On The United States
Today, research asserts soda is one of the leading causes of poor health outcomes in the United
States. People define soda as carbonated beverages, or soft drinks, or fizzy drinks. A significant
relationship exists between the consumption of carbonated drinks and obesity, type 2 diabetes and
dental caries in the United States (Gollust et al., 52). Tax on soda is considered as a government
intervention to regulate the consumption of these kinds of drinks. In fact, soda should be taxed in
the United States because it discourages the consumption of soda, makes people healthier, and raises
government funds. Firstly, taxes on sodas would decrease the consumption of soda. People would
think twice before buying a soft drink if there was an increased tax on carbonated beverages. They
may choose bottles of water with a cheaper price. Whenpeople don't spend on carbonated
beverages, the consumption of soda would decrease. According to a survey of Powell et at.,
suggested that a 20% increase in price would reduce consumption by 25%.As a result, it would
break the link between the consumption of soda and obesity. It also encourages the consumption of
healthier beverages, such as water, vegetable drinks, etc. If people consume fewer sodas,in
particular, they would have better health conditions as well as lower obesity rate. Therefore, these
taxes would decrease the obesity rate in our country. Subsequently, soda taxes would support our
citizens to become healthier. Today, the consumption

Regular Soda Lab Report
1. The Regular Soda may have sunk since the sucrose sugar weighs more than the aspartame sugar
that is in the Diet soda. One more possibility is that the Diet soda had more carbonation injected into
it than the Regular soda, making the Regular soda sink lower and Diet soda float. 2. Another
possibility is that the Diet soda had a malfunction while in the factory process and it never got filled
with soda and only air. Although it is rare that a mistake like that would happen, but malfunctions
occur. If the Diet soda was a defect, then it would cause the can to float higher than the Regular
soda. Another possibility is that the Regular soda can was filled with a highly dense and heavy
liquid that would cause it to sink, while the Diet soda was filled with a lighter carbonated fluid,
making it float. 3. One more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is possible to test both hypotheses, and it is important to gather the correct materials for the tests.
Before the lab begins, the lab personnel must obtain PPE, proper clothing, paper and pen to record
the data. The first test would require proper PPE and a CO2 probe. First, to test the carbonation
content of each can, you could test each can with a CO2 probe that would determine the carbonation
of each drink. Testing the carbonation or 'injected–air' concentration would help the scientists
understand why the Regular sank and the Diet floated. If the CO2 in the Diet was higher than the
CO2 level of the Regular Soda, it may be a factor that explains why some cans floated while others
sank. The next test would require a strainer and proper PPE. To test the contents that could have
been surrounding the cans, a designated personnel would use a strainer to sift any solid particles out
of the water that are not soda cans. Next the personnel would put on gloves and then move the cans
around in the cooler to make sure the area is clear of obstruction. Overall, the two hypothesis are

The Importance Of Travel Immunizations
Going on a vacation is usually a wonderful experience and is a memory that is cherished and never
forgotten, especially if it's to a place where your roots come from, but there are times when things
don't go to plan, and you end up disliking the trip. A bad experience, more often than not, will
influence your future decisions on whether or not it's a good idea to attempt another trip to the same
destination. Recently, India has become a semi–popular tourist destination for Europeans and
Americans to visit because they think it's a relatively safe and beautiful third–world country to
travel to. I never understood why when my friends would always express their jealousy when they
found out I've been to India a total of three times in my life. At the time I just assumed they hadn't
seen the world as I had at a young age, but even though I was young, at the age of eight, during my
last trip to India. That specific trip was the deciding factor for me to conclude that I no longer want
to visit there ever again, even if someone were to pay me or for my entire trip. Since India is
obviously a foreign country, there is no surprise that it possesses bacteria and viruses that are

Soda Is A Drug?
Soda is a Drug According to the American Heart Association (AHA) in 2014, the average American
consumes between one hundred fifty to one hundred seventy pounds of refined sugars in one year;
that is about twenty–two to thirty teaspoons a day. The AHA recommends five teaspoons for women
and nine teaspoons for men on a daily intake of sugar. Unfortunately, seventy percent of the nation 's
diet contains consumption of processed foods which are generally filled with refined sugars.
Refined sugars are commonly ingested through: candy, cereal, chips, cookies, dairy products, and
sweet drinks; a commonly known one is carbonated beverages, also known as soda. One in four

Soda companies "dramatically announced that they would aim to cut the number of sugary drinks
calories by twenty percent over the next ten years by reducing the portion size and trying to sell
more zero–calorie and low calorie options." By reducing the portion size, Americans could be
drinking more cans, and possibly drinking more ounces than they were originally. As for the zero–
calorie and low calorie options, the drinks are considered by doctors to be worst than the original
because they contain artificial sweeteners that are not 'natural sugars', but chemically made sugars
that puts an individual at greater risk of being morbidly obese by slowing their metabolisms, and is

Carbonated Soft Drink Industry For Management 400
This is a case analysis of the carbonated soft drink industry for Management 400. First, to set our
boundaries of the industry, I will set the boundaries of the carbonated soft drink industry. The
carbonated soft drink industries are companies that are in the production of soda products, sports
drinks, and energy drinks. The production and distribution of carbonated soda drinks can be broken
down into four separate sections: concentrate producers, bottlers, retail channels, and suppliers. The
first section is the producers of concentrate syrups. These are companies like Coca–Cola, Pepsi, and
Dr. Pepper who specialize in creating the concentrates. The second groups are the bottlers of soda
products. The bottlers, buy concentrate from companies like Coca–Cola, then add carbonated water
and other sweeteners, and then bottle the product for delivery to retailers. The third sections are
retail channels. Retail channels are supermarkets, fountain outlets, gas stations and other stores
where soda is sold to end consumers. The suppliers to the industry make up the last of the major
players in the carbonated soft drink industry. The suppliers in the industry supply both the
concentrate producers and also the bottling. The soda production industry has a fairly concentrated
market with two major companies accounting for 70% of the market share. The Coca–Cola
Company is by far the leading company in the industry with over 40% share of the market. Its
closest competitor is the PepsiCo

Methods: Two sodas containing citric acid were investigated in this experiment. Each soda was
titrated using one of the two experimental methods. These methods are the traditional titration and
the modern titration. Carbonic acid was already removed from the soda by boiling it. Both of the
two different titration methods use the same basic set up. Firstly, the buret must be cleaned

The device stores the entered data and records it on a chart. This process of titration was repeated
two more times for a total of three accurate titrations. The data stored in the device was then
transferred to a computer and saved. The charts and data collected can be found on the last page.
The volume of NaOH used to reach the equivalence point was calculated for each of the three
titrations. The equivalence point was found graphically. Using the volume of NaOH and the
molarity of NaOH, the moles of NaOH were calculated. Using the volume of the soda used, the
molarity of citric acid was found. Then the mean and standard deviation of the molarity of citric
acid was calculated.
Results:
In the traditional titration, the recorded data is shown in the following chart:

The Soft Drinks Industry During The Market Revolution
During the Market Revolution in the U.S., drastic changes in the way of producing and selling
goods have seen. The Market Revolution occurred in the 19th century, or also known as the "Era of
Good Feeling." Besides other development, the food and beverage industry also experienced a rapid
increase in productivity. This paper is going to summarize the history of the soft drinks industry and
how the mass production has negatively affected U.S. citizens' lives. Nowadays, soft drinks have
become a popular drink that some people prefer them to pure water as a daily beverage. The U.S. in
particular consumes a huge amount of soft drinks each year. Soft drinks generally contained water,
sweetener, and a flavor. Other terms also referring to soft drinks are soda, sugary beverage, and
carbonated beverage. People can easily buy soda, from a luxury restaurant to a small vending
machine. Soft drinks have a long history which emphasizes the evolution of business market
revolution. Soft drinks were first introduced in the 17th century by a European. They were just
lemon sweetened water without carbonate. It was not until the early 1800s that the term "soda
water" was used as the manufacturer of imitated mineral water was patterned in the U.S. "Soda
water" was consisted water and sodium bicarbonate. Then the "soda fountain" was developed with a
variety of flavor such as ginger, vanilla, and roots. Soda was known as a beverage that has medical

Banning of Sugary Drinks
Should the government be able to tell us the amount of sugary drinks we consume? In the recent
years obesity has become a national problem. Because of obesity, the current generation of
American children might be having a shorter life than their parents. Children learn about acceptable
behavior by observing and copying their parents, in this case the healthy way they eat and drink.
Existing factors said that the ones responsible for a big change were sugary drinks causing us a
drastic change in health. Sodas for example are cheap, especially if you buy them on sale. That's one
reason the obesity rate is higher and more accessible to consume in low income families. To
emphasize sugary drinks mostly contain caffeine and chemicals in which harm our body. This cause
make the government concerned encouraging them to limit the amount consumed, but –Do sugary
drinks really cause the problem? –Does the Government have to take extreme actions to ban sugary
drinks? Or –Do we have the right to drink wherever we want and how much we can to drink?
According to "New York Soft Drink Size Limit", recently in New York City the limit on the 16
ounce sugary drinks law passed. As of March 12, 2013, eight members of the New York City
council approved this law to prohibit more than 16 ounces per beverage. This encounter to ban

Can Soda Tax Fight Back Obesity?
Can Soda Tax Fight Back Obesity? Today, research asserts soda is one of the leading causes of poor
health outcomes in the United States. People define soda as carbonated beverages, or soft drinks, or
fizzy drinks. A significant relationship exists between the consumption of carbonated drinks and
obesity, type 2 diabetes and dental caries in the United States (Gollust et al., 52). Tax on soda is
considered as a government's intervention to regulate the consumption of these kinds of drinks. In
fact, soda should be taxed in the United States because it discourages the consumption of soda,
makes people healthier, and raises government funds. Firstly, taxes on sodas would decrease the
consumption of soda. People would think twice before buying a soft drink if there was an increased
tax on carbonated beverages. They may choose bottles of water with a cheaper price. When people
don't spend on carbonated beverages, the consumption of soda would decrease. According to a
survey of Powell et at., suggested that a 20% increase in price would reduce consumption by 25%.
As a result, it would break the link between the consumption of soda and obesity. It also encourages
the consumption of healthier beverages, such as water, vegetable drinks, etc. If people consume
fewer sodas, in particular, they would have better health conditions as well as lower obesity rate.
Therefore, these taxes would decrease the obesity rate in our country. Subsequently, soda taxes
would support our citizens to

Rocks and Soda
Did you know that some rumors started that said if you ate pop rocks with soda your stomach will
explode? That rumor is not true of course. Your stomach will not explode but may result in a lot of
gas. There is less carbon dioxide in a pouch of pop rocks than in half a can of soda. That means that
if you drink soda with pop rocks there will not be an explosion in your stomach. The reason for that
is because if there is not a lot of carbon dioxide than nothing is going to explode.
The soda and pop rocks experiment is mostly just mixing pop rocks and soda into a bottle. First,

There are many disciplines and government channels that get involved in certain aspects of soda

In regards to the health acclamations tainted through the consumption of soda drinks, the USDA has
had a heavy response to soda drink manufactures with regards to necessities that are obtained from a

districts that contain high calorie–content levels. The major reason the USDA wants to amend such
actions is because they feel there is no health benefits for students to consume such high levels of
sugar and potentially health hazardous additives.
On the contrary to the health scope of soda drinks, the financial awareness campaign introduced by
congress seemingly shows that they are economically aware. The United States House of
Representatives who oversee legislation introduction are considering imposing higher taxes toward
the sale commissions of soft drinks which includes artificial beverages. This is all in efforts to help
compensate the epidemic outbreak of obesity that is rapidly growing throughout the American
population. The overall health issue has motivated many to be in favor of such legislative bills.

Stop Drinking Soda Research Paper
Introduction
You want to lose 12 pounds per year? Or how about avoiding something that can cause lifelong
paralysis or death? There is one simple thing we can do to avoid these tragic outcomes and–at the
same time, help America. What is this one simple thing, you may ask? The answer is, by stop
consuming soda.
Thesis Statement
Stop the consumption of soda makes good sense for us as an individual and as a society. In this
paper, after we examine its harmful ingredients, and the specific ways it can hurt your health, you'll
see why you should stop consuming soda. Then, we'll explore the healthier alternatives to soda that
we can drink every day.
Main point #1: Ingredients in Average Soda Drink
Firstly, to understand the real issue with soda ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We've noted the harmful ingredients and now let's take a closer look at the harm they can do to our
body. Firstly, the ingredients in both regular and diet sodas can cause many harmful effects to your
body. An average small bottle or can of soda contains over 200 calories, none of which contains any
real nutrients for your health. If you consume just one can of soda per day, you will gain 12 pounds
in only one year.
Following this fact, experts have noted that there is a link between soda consumption and obesity in
United States. For an example, according to a 2012 article in "Prevalence of obesity and trends in
body mass index among US children and adolescents", it is found that two out of three adults and
one out of three children in America are overweight or obese. Rising consumption of soda has been
a major contributor to the obesity epidemic. Besides, according to an article by American Heart

The Coca Cola Company's strengths and weaknesses in both its resources and capabilities: Coca–
Cola's strengths are excellent brand recognition, diverse product line, strong supply chain network,
largest beverage distribution system, competitive marketing strategy, sustainable services to
customers. Its weaknesses are perceived negative safety and quality consequences of certain
ingredients, health and nutrition issues, high dependence on bottling partners, water availability and
sustainability, potential shortages and higher prices of raw materials, etc,. However, consumers'
preferences are evolving rapidly as a result of health and nutrition considerations, shifting consumer
demographics, changes in consumer tastes and needs, changes in consumer lifestyles and
competitive product and pricing pressures. If Coca–Cola does not successfully anticipate these
changing consumer preferences or fail to address them by timely developing new products or
product extensions through innovation, the share of sales, volume growth and overall financial
results could be negatively affected ('2013 Annual Report',2014:12). IV/ SOME EVALUATIONS
AND CONCLUSIONS 1. A recent strategic alliance or M&A that Coca– Cola entered into. Did it
succeed or fail? Justify your

Soda Is Not Only Unhealthy

  • 1. Soda Is Not Only Unhealthy Introduction Soda is not only unhealthy because it is a sugary drink, but it is also the most acidic thing that people drink on a daily basis. Knowing this the question, which sodas will release the most carbon dioxide when mixed with hydrochloric acid arose. In addition, knowing background information about what it is that is being tested is very important. When it is said that soda is acidic that may catch people off guard, but how acidic soda is goes across as an even bigger surprise. The acidity of something is measured using pH. The pH scale is a way to measure the amount of hydrogen available to form a chemical bond. Containing a pH of 7 means that it is neutral in the acidity it contains. Soda has a pH of about 2.5 which is about the same pH as vinegar. To put this into perspective, battery acid has a pH of 1 and water has a pH of 7. Soda is closer in pH to battery acid rather than water in the amount of acid it contains. An interesting fact found was, "A pH below 4 or above 10 will kill most fish and very few animals can tolerate waters with a pH below 3 or above 11" ("8 Reasons Why People Drink Soda & 16 Reasons To Give Up Soda Drinking"). Hydrochloric acid can have range of the pH. This is determined on the concentration it is at. Muriatic acid is another name for hydrochloric acid. It can be found in the home in different cleaners. This acid is very poisonous ("Hydrochloric Acid"). Since the hydrochloric acid is secreted in the stomach, it is able ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Persuasive Essay On Soda Drinks In order to persuade a group of Consumer we will need to understand the phycology for Soda drinking customers and their expectations and style of choosing their drink. The normal soda soft drink vending machine shells shoppers with decisions. Would you incline toward a cola or a natural product pop? Do you need eating regimen or something full enhanced? Regardless of every one of these decisions, individuals tend to pick a most loved brand and stay with it for quite a long time. They expend gallons of a specific pop while to a great extent disregarding alternate flavors available to be purchased. Offer an energetic pop consumer an example of a contending brand with an almost indistinguishable item and they are probably going to dismiss it inside and out. The purpose behind this has less to do with taste, and more to do with inconspicuous and cautious promoting with respect to soda pop producers. The decision of a pop is as much about your identity as what you need to drink. Pop creators adjust each part of their advertising from their bundling, to their mottos, to the music that plays over their ads to make a character around their items. Choosing a Soda Drink: Soda is an extraordinary item since it has no unequivocal reason. Drinking a container of coke isn't important to get past the day. However, as indicated by the Centers for Disease Control, half of Americans drink no less than one sugary drink each and every day. Pop creators are finding sharp approaches to ... But the NSDA (National Soft Drink Association) also says that soft drinks aren 't the sole cause of tooth decay. A lot of sugary foods, from fruit juices to candy and even raisins and other dried fruit, have what dentists refer to as cariogenic properties, which means they can cause tooth decay. Though other foods have cariogenic properties soda definitely has the largest percentage of these properties. A federally funded study of nearly 3,200 Americans 9 to 29 years old conducted between 1971 and 1974 showed a direct link between tooth decay and soft drinks. Numerous other studies have shown the same link throughout the world, from Sweden to Iraq. Soda has become the number one choice beverage in the US. The younger you start drinking soda daily the more likely you are going to develop osteoporosis, tooth decay, and a myriad of other ailments when older. • 10. The Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex Introduction The Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex is a great place for business. It is home to multiple companies and their corporate headquarters – and with an international airport, open trade routes, multiple universities and academic institutions – it proves to be the perfect location for businesses and professionals alike. One such company that is headquartered in Plano, TX, and is an example of a thriving organization in the area, is the Dr Pepper Snapple Group. A mostly domestic company, with most of its business located in North American and Mexico, the DPS Group is a manufacturer of nonalcoholic beverages in the beverage industry and is third in overall market share (after Coca– Cola and Pepsico). The beverage industry is steady and growing, but the nonalcoholic beverage portion of the industry is facing many challenges with carbonated soft drinks declining in sales due to a more health–conscious population. Analyzing the DPS Group and how they are dealing with these challenges was very interesting, as I have always been a Dr Pepper fan and would hate to see them go out of business or die out in the market. I have known people who have worked for the company and loved it, and I hope to work for them someday as well. I collected my research on the company through their website, articles and journals, and my own knowledge of the company and research into the company history through a visit to the Dr Pepper museum. I April 14th, 2013 Argument Essay There are a plethora of reasons why pop and soft–drinks are bad for personal health as well as the environment. Never the less there have been an increase of obesity cases and children with diabetes caused solely by the consumption of sugar filled beverages. The consumption of soft–drinks and other carbonated beverages have multiple negative effects, and I want to briefly cover ten or so reason as to why soda is hazardous to our bodies as well as some negative effects that drinking soda on a daily basis has on the body. To begin, soft–drinks are nothing but flavored sugar water, which is completely unhealthy for the body; the constant consumption of sodas can lead ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is quite frightening because canning plants and manufactures over time have increased the amount of acids they put in their sodas. So far scientist aren't sure whether they are harmful to humans and our bodies, but what they do know is, is that the sweeteners used in diet sodas cannot breakdown in our bodies. Scientist in Switzerland around 2009 tested water treatment plants around the country and discovered that there were trace amounts of acesulfame K, sucralose, as well as saccharin which are all used in the sweetening of diet sodas. While not completely harmful, yet, to humans it still shows signs of interface with animals that live near lakes and rivers. So now not only are sodas not good for humans, but is also causing problems to animals. Back to the main subject of sodas and soft–drinks, targeting one brand in particular; Mountain Dew. My whole entire life I've been told that soda rots your teeth, that made me wonder how and what soda does to your teeth. All sodas have phosphoric acid, caffeine, citric acid, and carbonated water. Another thing is that soda disturbs tooth enamel. Even though soda is delicious, you should reduce the amount of soda you drink because soda contains ingredients that are bad, soda damages your teeth , and pennies get tarnished. There are many ingredients in soda that is bad for you. What is soda made of? Soda is carbonated water that is flavored and sweetened with sugar. Soda is basically made of carbonated water, sweeteners, phosphoric and citric acid, caffeine, and natural flavors. The natural flavors added are from fruits, vegetables, nuts, leaves, herbs, and spices. Phosphoric acid is purposely added to soft drinks because it gives them a sharper and tangier flavor. What causes soda to damage your teeth? Acids, dye, and sugar in soda can also harm your teeth, even if you drink diet soda it will be just as bad or worse than drinking regular soda. Teeth enamel hardens the outside of your teeth, protecting the dentin and pulp of the tooth from damage. Soda contains acids such as phosphate and citric acid that weaken the tooth enamel. However, non–cola drinks are less acidic but cause more enamel destruction than colas. Erosion from phosphoric acid affects the entire tooth, tooth erosion happens when acids wear away the enamel on teeth. • 15. Soft Drink Industry Case Study 1. Why, historically, has the soft drink industry been so profitable? There are several reasons why the soft drink industry has been so profitable. One reason is because these soda companies directly distribute to stores that sell their product. They do a good job in avoiding a middle man which would cost a lot more. Instead, they handle all the packaging and bottling before the soda gets to the shelf so they don't have to pay those extra costs associated with a middle man and keep all that profit. Also, carbonated drinks are cheap to produce and have a high profit margin. Every aspect of the making and bottling process is inexpensive so it makes it very easy to turn a profit. This is the same for both bottles and fountain sales. For the fountain all you have to do is install the fountain and then refill it so it is inexpensive. Another way they are profitable is because these soda companies have contracts with stores making it impossible for competitors to sell their version of CSD's in the same location. They put the contracts in place in order to avoid another company selling and taking their profit and also so the stores and restaurants won't make it competitive for them when it doesn't have to be. These soda companies also do a great job of sponsoring events in which helps promote their products which in turn drives profit. These soda companies also partner with certain locations in order to offer incentives if you buy the sodas. For example, if you buy a ticket to a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to the International Journal of Technical Research and Applications, nearly 200 nations enjoy the sweet, sparkling soda with an annual consumption of more than 34 billion gallons (2007). Soft drinks rank as America 's favorite beverage segment, representing 25% of the total beverage market. In the early 1990's per capita consumption of soft drinks in the U.S. was 49 gallons, compared to the 34 gallon average consumption of the next most popular beverage, water. This paper will focus on the history and chemical makeup of diet soda, how it affects your body and what it does to your bones, and what happens when you stop drinking diet soda. Soda goes back to ancient times when ancient Greeks and Romans would use mineral water because of its medicinal properties. Soon mineral water was turned into flavored soda water, and gained popularity not only for medicinal benefits but for the refreshing taste it has as well. Most American's would rather go to a restaurant and pay a little more money then they would at a supermarket for their meal. Soft drinks, in my opinion are also one of the biggest reasons why so many American's are overweight today. Carbonated soft drinks account for more than 27 percent of Americans' beverage consumption. • 19. Effects Of Soda On The United States Today, research asserts soda is one of the leading causes of poor health outcomes in the United States. People define soda as carbonated beverages, or soft drinks, or fizzy drinks. A significant relationship exists between the consumption of carbonated drinks and obesity, type 2 diabetes and dental caries in the United States (Gollust et al., 52). Tax on soda is considered as a government intervention to regulate the consumption of these kinds of drinks. In fact, soda should be taxed in the United States because it discourages the consumption of soda, makes people healthier, and raises government funds. Firstly, taxes on sodas would decrease the consumption of soda. People would think twice before buying a soft drink if there was an increased tax on carbonated beverages. They may choose bottles of water with a cheaper price. Whenpeople don't spend on carbonated beverages, the consumption of soda would decrease. According to a survey of Powell et at., suggested that a 20% increase in price would reduce consumption by 25%.As a result, it would break the link between the consumption of soda and obesity. It also encourages the consumption of healthier beverages, such as water, vegetable drinks, etc. If people consume fewer sodas,in particular, they would have better health conditions as well as lower obesity rate. Therefore, these taxes would decrease the obesity rate in our country. Subsequently, soda taxes would support our citizens to become healthier. Today, the consumption ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Another possibility is that the Diet soda had a malfunction while in the factory process and it never got filled with soda and only air. Although it is rare that a mistake like that would happen, but malfunctions occur. If the Diet soda was a defect, then it would cause the can to float higher than the Regular soda. Before the lab begins, the lab personnel must obtain PPE, proper clothing, paper and pen to record the data. The first test would require proper PPE and a CO2 probe. First, to test the carbonation content of each can, you could test each can with a CO2 probe that would determine the carbonation of each drink. Testing the carbonation or 'injected–air' concentration would help the scientists understand why the Regular sank and the Diet floated. If the CO2 in the Diet was higher than the CO2 level of the Regular Soda, it may be a factor that explains why some cans floated while others sank. The next test would require a strainer and proper PPE. To test the contents that could have been surrounding the cans, a designated personnel would use a strainer to sift any solid particles out of the water that are not soda cans. The production and distribution of carbonated soda drinks can be broken down into four separate sections: concentrate producers, bottlers, retail channels, and suppliers. The first section is the producers of concentrate syrups. These are companies like Coca–Cola, Pepsi, and Dr. Pepper who specialize in creating the concentrates. The second groups are the bottlers of soda products. The bottlers, buy concentrate from companies like Coca–Cola, then add carbonated water and other sweeteners, and then bottle the product for delivery to retailers. People define soda as carbonated beverages, or soft drinks, or fizzy drinks. A significant relationship exists between the consumption of carbonated drinks and obesity, type 2 diabetes and dental caries in the United States (Gollust et al., 52). Tax on soda is considered as a government's intervention to regulate the consumption of these kinds of drinks. When people don't spend on carbonated beverages, the consumption of soda would decrease. According to a survey of Powell et at., suggested that a 20% increase in price would reduce consumption by 25%. As a result, it would break the link between the consumption of soda and obesity. That means that if you drink soda with pop rocks there will not be an explosion in your stomach. The reason for that is because if there is not a lot of carbon dioxide than nothing is going to explode. The soda and pop rocks experiment is mostly just mixing pop rocks and soda into a bottle.
