As a Spanish descendant, I have the last name Sanchez. However, I am only one-fourth
Spanish, I show no physical traits, and know only one Spanish word, yet I have been a victim to
racial slurs because of my last name, in either good fun or intent to harm. People are so hateful to
different races, especially to Mexican immigrants. These people do not deserve the hatred they
get, they fight to get to get away from their country to come to ours to do jobs no one else wants
to do for pay no one can live on. They want the freedom we offer yet we neglect them for it and
hold it above their head. We set impossible limitations for them to meet and when they do, we
only give a certain amount of time to stay. I believe that all immigrants, not only Mexicans,
should have to take one single test to be allowed entry to our country, they should at least be able
to communicate with English, and required to take a few basic classes within their first two
years. If they break the laws more than 2-3 times or severally they should be punished or sent
away, after 5 years they are normal citizens. I believe this way, we would lower drug smuggling
by making entry easier, people would not seek different ways, and this would prepare them to do
thing civil duties of a US citizen, I believe if we would help them into our culture, seen as more
normal. These are just small suggestions and obviously there is a lot more detail but I think this a
good way to look at this sort of thing.
