Formal Outline
1. Nowadays more and more people is emigrating looking for a better life in other countries, leaving their houses generally in the search of a better income, but what they don’t realize is that with the house they leave their home, and with their home a lot of cultural and social things that are going to change in that new place.
a. Despite the cultural and social differences immigrants might have to face, they are always looking for their personal growth and as Lin-Manuel Miranda say “immigrants do their job”.
b. Background information
i. The motivations for leaving one's homeland are diverse, but essentially fall into an economic or political category, or both. Fundamentally, emigrating expresses a desire for freedom to improve our quality of life.
ii. It is possible to appreciate a difference between native people and immigrants who live with them, since it is not only a different passport or place of birth, but also clothing, ways of living, languages, ethical codes, complexions physical, wages, religion and culture.Immigrants are not always completely free due to the cultural, social, ethnic and physical differences they must face, so they can achieve their true personal growth once they have achieved true total freedom.
2. As is common knowledge and has been going for a long time (since immigration has existed), immigrants once settled (or not) in a country that is not theirs of origin, are not completely free because many are exploited and they are not recognized; on the contrary, they are rejected despite their efforts to support their families and wants for a better life.
a. Alexander Hamilton
i. “Born illegitimate and orphan by the time he was 10, and penniless” (Lin-Manuel Miranda)
1. He was not completely free since he did not have the same opportunities than other people.
b. Concepcion Dieguez (my grandmother, Spanish in Uruguay)
i. She immigrated to Uruguay in the Spanish dictatorship and was really tough for her to find a job, since she was an immigrant.
1. Her first years in Uruguay were really hard since although she was legally in the country, she was not used to the culture and certain differences were marked towards her.
c. Immigrants in America that are exploited and not secure in the country.
i. “Immigrants (We Get the Job Done)” – Alexander Hamilton Mixtape.
1. In this song people “tells” how they are called lazy, ugly people or people that come just to steal jobs just for the fact of being immigrants, but they are the one that actually do the “dirty job”.
d. Almost all immigrants are going to feel the differences between countries and most of them are going to be subject of complaints, but it is on their hands to make the people respect them by working hard and setting the tone, always being respectful with others. In addition to being respectful, all the previous mentioned things can be achieved by overcoming some differences between immigrants and the native people of the country.
3. An immigrant ...
The document discusses the ongoing refugee crisis stemming from the Syrian civil war, where millions have fled their homes and countries seeking asylum. It notes some of the challenges refugees face in dangerous journeys to Europe and living in refugee camps, but also outlines opposing arguments about the risks and benefits of accepting refugees. Both sides of the debate around the refugee crisis and its massive implications are presented.
Ppt on democracy and diversity class x julySadhna Sharma
The document discusses the Civil Rights Movement in the United States from 1954 to 1968. It notes that Martin Luther King Jr. started the movement to fight against racial discrimination faced by Black people, who were denied rights like voting. It then discusses the 1968 Mexico City Olympics where Tommie Smith and John Carlos, two African American athletes, raised their fists in a black power salute during the medal ceremony to protest racial inequality in the US. Both athletes wore symbols of Black pride and the oppression of Black people to draw international attention to the issue of racial discrimination. However, the IOC punished them for making a political demonstration.
The document discusses migration trends in South America from 1700-1900 CE and today. It notes that from 1700-1900 CE, there was large scale migration to the Americas for labor, including millions of African slaves through the Atlantic slave trade. While slave labor continued to be important, economic prosperity and religious freedom also drew migrants. Today, South America experiences both emigration and immigration. Countries like Venezuela have seen increased outward migration due to economic and political instability, while others like Argentina and Chile accept immigrants from neighboring nations for jobs. Push factors like poverty and pull factors like employment opportunities continue driving migration patterns in the region.
The case of filipina domestic helpers in singapore and hong kongMaryjoydailo
This document summarizes a paper about the culture shock experienced by Filipina domestic workers in Singapore and Hong Kong. It discusses how cultural differences between the Philippines and these countries, especially in areas like language, food, social norms, and family dynamics, often lead to anxiety, discomfort, and even mental health issues for Filipina domestic workers as they struggle to adapt to their new environments. While economic factors drive many to seek work abroad, the document suggests a major challenge is learning to cope with the problems of a unfamiliar cultural setting.
You have been asked to explain the differences between certain categ.docxshericehewat
You have been asked to explain the differences between certain categories of crimes. For each of the following categories of crime, provide a general definition of the category of crime and give at least two detailed examples of specific crimes that fall into each category:
Crimes against persons
Crimes against property

4. Monday October 27 lecture
Themes: Global Media Governance and Regulation; The Internet and Digital Media
Readings: Chapter 5, “The Medium: Global Technologies and Organizations,” and Chapter 6, “The Internet”
In this lecture, we discussed the definition and history of communication rights as one element or dimension of communication policy, and used it to bring to life a subject—policy—that sometimes seems abstract and technical in nature.
In doing so, we noted the evolution from a “negative” rights view of communication rights, as expressed in Article 19 of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948, to the more “positive” definition of communication rights explained in the lecture content derived from the work of Marc Raboy (and Jeremy Shtern).
Remember that “negative” does not mean “bad” here nor “positive” good. “Negative” and “positive” rights—which are ways of thinking about all human rights, not just communication rights—are instead ways of characterizing the orientation of rights toward individuals and society. Negative rights are defined in terms of freedom
from
things, and positive rights in terms of freedom
to
have or do certain things. Both negative and positive rights derive their legitimacy from fundamental and universal consideration of what it means to be human and to be treat people as human beings.
In our case study at the end of the lecture, we then discussed how a “positive” approach to communication rights could help us better understand and perhaps act against cyberbullying.
In your paper, and in your own words, define “communication rights,” and then briefly explain the evolution from the negative to the positive rights approach to communication rights.
Once you have done that, and with reference to the cyberbullying pamphlet from the Canadian government attached to your lecture notes, demonstrate how a “positive” rights approach to communication rights can help us better understand and prevent cyberbullying. In other words, what are the limitations of approaching cyberbullying from a “negative” rights perspective, and what does a “positive” approach to communication rights do to help us understand and perhaps act against cyberbullying?
Cyberbullying is a problem in international communication that affects many, especially vulnerable teenagers, as illustrated in the case of the late Amanda Todd (from British Columbia).
You do not need to use the McPhail chapter here, as it is not directly relevant to this question. Rather, draw on the lecture notes and the podcast as your sources here.
5. Wednesday October 29 lecture

EXAMPLE QUESTIONS ..........
What’s your first, most vivid memory? Going to my grandma and grandpa’s farm and making grandma walk me out to the outhouse for fear of a mean bannie rooster would peck me to death. He was afraid of grandma.
What was the apartment or house like that you grew up in? How many bedrooms did it have? Bathrooms? I lived with my mother and father mostly in a house in the city that had 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom. I had to share a room with my older brother that was upstairs.
What was your bedroom like? Very simple. It had 2 beds made of feathers, a desk with a lamp and one dresser for our clothes. Dallas (my brother got the bottom 2 and I got the top 2)
Can you describe the neighborhood you grew up in? Not really. Every chance I got I went to grandma and grandpas and spent time with them. They lived deep in the country. I had one friend out there that lived about 3 miles away on the next farm. His name was Carl.
Tell me about your parents. Where were they born? When were they born? What memories do you have of them? Both parents were born in Richmond, IN. Memories include more of my mother than my father. Who was more strict: your mother or your father? Do you have a vivid memory of something you did that you were disciplined for? Since mom was the main one around I would say that she was more strict. I was sitting on the porch crying and dad came home (sober for once) and sat on the porch with me, got me calmed down and offered to give me a ride to grandma and grandpa’s.

you are the family therapist. The scenario depicted below is based o.docxshericehewat
you are the family therapist. The scenario depicted below is based on a real-life therapy case. The names and major identifying factors have been altered.
Andy, a 16-year-old girl just returned from a 2-month stay at a residential facility in Utah. Her counselor referred her to YOU. During your first session, Andy and her mother, Jane, were present. Arnold, her father was to attend but was busy at work and didn't make it. During the session the mother and daughter sat next to one another and were even arm in arm at times. They reviewed the situation prior to her going to the facility. Basically, Andy was out of control and belligerent. She was critical of both parents and they realized they couldn't manage her and needed to get some relief from the conflict.
Andy presents as a normal teenager, but she was obviously quite sensitive, reactive to her mother, and frequently felt controlled by her mother. Andy was adopted. She is not Jane and Arnold's natural daughter. She is actually a niece. Her father, Arnold had a sister who was a drug abusing stripper, and gave birth to Andy when she was 20. Jane and Arnold raised and finally adopted Andy. Andy has never had contact with her birth mother. She is extremely angry about this.
Both Jane and Arnold are the adult children of alcoholics (ACOAs). Jane's father was a WWII vet and was disabled most of his life. His problems mainly consisted of mental issues and alcoholism. Ultimately he committed suicide. At times Jane would describe her childhood as great. At other times she would note frequent beatings and abuse. Arnold's alcoholic father died when he was only 8 years old.
Both Jane and Arnold are very successful professionally and they are open to therapy to help their daughter. They have been married for 29 years.
Based on the above case description, answer the following:
What other information would you like to know to move forward with the case?
What long-term approach or techniques would you employ in this case?
Based on the information available what would be your short term goals?
Based on the information available what would be your long term goals?

Themes: Global Media Case Study in Media and the Arab World; Orientalism
Readings: Said, Edward (1978)..

Memories include more of my mother than my father. you are the family therapist.

Formal Outline1. Nowadays more and more people is emigrating l.docx
1. Formal Outline
1. Nowadays more and more people is emigrating looking for a
better life in other countries, leaving their houses generally in
the search of a better income, but what they don’t realize is that
with the house they leave their home, and with their home a lot
of cultural and social things that are going to change in that new
place.
a. Despite the cultural and social differences immigrants might
have to face, they are always looking for their personal growth
and as Lin-Manuel Miranda say “immigrants do their job”.
b. Background information
i. The motivations for leaving one's homeland are diverse, but
essentially fall into an economic or political category, or both.
Fundamentally, emigrating expresses a desire for freedom to
improve our quality of life.
ii. It is possible to appreciate a difference between native
people and immigrants who live with them, since it is not only a
different passport or place of birth, but also clothing, ways of
living, languages, ethical codes, complexions physical, wages,
religion and culture.Immigrants are not always completely free
due to the cultural, social, ethnic and physical differences they
must face, so they can achieve their true personal growth once
they have achieved true total freedom.
2. As is common knowledge and has been going for a long time
(since immigration has existed), immigrants once settled (or
not) in a country that is not theirs of origin, are not completely
free because many are exploited and they are not recognized; on
the contrary, they are rejected despite their efforts to support
their families and wants for a better life.
a. Alexander Hamilton
i. “Born illegitimate and orphan by the time he was 10, and
penniless” (Lin-Manuel Miranda)
2. 1. He was not completely free since he did not have the same
opportunities than other people.
b. Concepcion Dieguez (my grandmother, Spanish in Uruguay)
i. She immigrated to Uruguay in the Spanish dictatorship and
was really tough for her to find a job, since she was an
immigrant.
1. Her first years in Uruguay were really hard since although
she was legally in the country, she was not used to the culture
and certain differences were marked towards her.
c. Immigrants in America that are exploited and not secure in
the country.
i. “Immigrants (We Get the Job Done)” – Alexander Hamilton
Mixtape.
1. In this song people “tells” how they are called lazy, ugly
people or people that come just to steal jobs just for the fact of
being immigrants, but they are the one that actually do the
“dirty job”.
d. Almost all immigrants are going to feel the differences
between countries and most of them are going to be subject of
complaints, but it is on their hands to make the people respect
them by working hard and setting the tone, always being
respectful with others. In addition to being respectful, all the
previous mentioned things can be achieved by overcoming some
differences between immigrants and the native people of the
country.
3. An immigrant may not feel comfortable or “free” in the
country where he/she lives not only because of the obvious fact
that they are not in their “home”, but also because of cultural,
social and ethical differences that are constantly being felt by
them everywhere.
a. Cultural differences
i. “Individuals who migrate experience multiple stresses that
can impact their mental well-being, including the loss of
cultural norms…”. (Bhugara & Becker, 2005)
1. Not possible to be mentally free unless the immigrant inserts
3. himself in the culture.
b. Social differences
i. “If the individual feels isolated from his or her culture,
unaccepted by the 'majority culture' and has a lack of social
support, a consequent sense of rejection, alienation and poor
selfesteem may occur.” (Bhugara & Becker, 2005)
1. Due to the social differences, immigrants will not have any
social support, feeling rejected to the point of not being “one
more” citizen of a country.
c. Due to the aforementioned differences, it is possible to affirm
that immigrants are not totally free, since there are differences
with the people of the country of origin from which they cannot
easily escape. So, although immigrants are said to be free, they
are not totally, and that’s why in many cases they do not get to
achieve their wanted personal growth.
4. People immigrate for a reason, and although sometimes is for
political issues, family issues, or something out of the ordinary,
they are always looking for a better life, better economic
solutions, in fact, they are looking for their personal growth,
which cannot be achieved without first getting a full freedom,
not only physical but also mentally.
a. Alexander Hamilton
i. “This is a guy who pulled himself up from out of nothing and
helped to create our nation” (Lin-Manuel Miranda on Hamilton)
1. Hamilton is an example of personal growth, which could be
set as an example of someone who went from rags to riches.
b. People that immigrate looking for personal growth
i. “immigrants have become a significant driving force in the
creation of new businesses and intellectual property in the U.S.
…” (The Cost and Benefits of Immigration).
1. The balance between economic and mental goodness should
be a priority, since people think that they are going to another
country to improve economically, but they end up being a
prisoner of a culture to which they do not want to belong,
ending up not being free at all.
4. c. Personal growth refers to improvements in habits, behavior,
actions and reactions, but is often confused by people with
economic growth, so immigrants leave their country looking for
personal growth but the only thing they end up finding is maybe
more economical freedom, but no personal one.
5. Conclusion
a. Freedom and immigration (macro): Immigrants are not always
completely free, personal growth, cultural and social
differences.
b. People who are immigrants in a country will almost always
have noticeable differences with people from the country of
origin, so they must face them. This can end in many cases with
immigrants not being free since although they are not
imprisoned, there are certain actions towards them and
differences that will make them not be able to enjoy total
mental freedom, being that only when they manage to overcome
the state of non-freedom , they may just achieve personal
growth.
c. People emigrate and immigrate in search of happiness and
freedom, but sometimes they end up not being free due to the
differences that they themselves decided to move to.

“Title in Progress”
Nowadays more and more people are emigrating looking for a
better life in other countries, leaving their houses generally in
the search of a better income, but what they do not realize is
that with the house they leave their home, and with their home a
lot of cultural and social things that are going to change in that
new place. Despite the cultural and social differences
immigrants might have to face, they are always looking for their
personal growth and, as Lin-Manuel Miranda says: “immigrants
5. do their job”.
The motivations for leaving one's homeland are diverse but
essentially fall into an economic or political category, or both.
Fundamentally, emigrating expresses a desire for freedom to
improve their quality of life. Also, it is possible to appreciate a
difference between native people and immigrants who live with
them, since it is not only a different passport or place of birth
but also clothing, ways of living, languages, ethical codes,
physical complexions, wages, religion, and culture. So, it could
be said that immigrants are not always completely free due to
the cultural, social, ethnic and physical differences they must
face, so they can achieve their true personal growth once they
have achieved true total freedom.
As is common knowledge and has been going for a long
time (since immigration has existed), immigrants once settled
(or not) in a country that is not theirs of origin, are not
completely free because many are exploited and they are not
recognized; on the contrary, they are rejected despite their
efforts to support their families and wants for a better life. A
clear example of this can be seen in “Hamilton” when in the
first musical song (“Alexander Hamilton”) is explained in a
summary of how the life of Hamilton was. It allows people who
listen to it to see he was not completely free since he did not
have the same opportunities as other people, largely due to his
condition of immigrant. In fact, Lin-Manuel Miranda tells in an
interview that he was grabbed by Hamilton’s story because he
was actually an Immigrant, arguing that “He was born
illegitimate; he was an orphan by the time he was 10 and he was
penniless.” (Miranda).
Another example that can be set is the case of Concepcion
Dieguez, a Spanish grandmother that emigrated to Uruguay in
the Spanish dictatorship of Francisco Franco (40’s). Her
experience as an immigrant was really tough especially the first
years, in which she could not find a job and, although the fact
that she was legally in the country, she was not used to the
culture and certain differences were marked towards her.
6. Unfortunately, this feeling of non-belonging and rejection to
immigrants still happens and it can be seen with the immigrants
in America that are exploited and not secure in the country. As
the song “Immigrants (We Get the Job Done)” from the
Alexander Hamilton Mixtape tells, immigrants in America are
called lazy, ugly people or people that come just to steal jobs
only for the fact of being immigrants, but they are the ones that
actually do the dirty job, like it is said in Lin-Manuel Miranda’s
song “Immigrants- We get the Job Done”.
Almost all immigrants are going to feel the differences
between countries and most of them are going to be subject to
complaints, but it is on their hands to make the people respect
them by working hard and setting the tone, always being
respectful with others. In addition to being respectful, all the
previously mentioned things can be achieved by overcoming
some differences between immigrants and the native people of
the country.
Groups like Zero Population Growth and the Sierra Club have
opposed immigration in America, being the core issue of their
protests centered on whether the new immigrants could be
absorbed into the nation, questioning if they would abandon the
old ways in favor of core American values. (Stevans) Having
exposed that, an immigrant may not feel comfortable or
completely free in the country where he or she lives not only
because of the obvious fact that they are not in their original
home (meaning that they are not in the country where they were
born, where their parents raised them and where they used to
play as children) but also because of cultural, social and ethical
differences that are constantly being felt by them everywhere.
Defined as the various beliefs, behaviors, languages,
practices, and expressions considered unique to members of a
specific ethnicity, race or national origin, cultural differences
greatly impact in the life of the immigrants, to such an extent in
which it is said that “Individuals who migrate experience
multiple stresses that can impact their mental well-being,
including the loss of cultural norms…”. (Bhugara and Becker).
7. Thus, it is not possible to be mentally free unless the immigrant
inserts himself in the culture.
Moreover, social differences are huge players in these
matters as well, since if “if individuals feel isolated from his or
her culture, unaccepted by the 'majority culture' and have a lack
of social support, a consequent sense of rejection, alienation
and poor self-esteem may occur.” (Bhugara and Becker). This
shows that due to social differences, immigrants will not have
any social support, feeling rejected to the point of not being
“one more” citizen of a country.
Due to the aforementioned differences, it is possible to
affirm that immigrants are not totally free since there are
differences with the people of the country of origin from which
they cannot easily escape. So, although immigrants are said to
be free, they are not totally, and that is why in many cases they
do not get to achieve their wanted personal growth.
People immigrate for a reason, and although sometimes is
for political issues, family issues, or something out of the
ordinary, they are always looking for a better life, better
economic solutions, in fact, they are looking for their personal
growth, which cannot be achieved without first getting full
freedom, not only physical but also mentally.
As Lin-Manuel Miranda said about Hamilton: “This is a
guy who pulled himself up from out of nothing and helped to
create our nation” (Miranda), referring to the fact that Hamilton
is an example of personal growth, which could be also set as an
example of someone who went from rags to riches. Also,
immigrants in general that immigrate looking for personal
growth serve as an example. It is important to state at this point
that “immigrants have become a significant driving force in the
creation of new business and intellectual property in the U.S.
…” (West).
The balance between economic and mental goodness
should be a priority, since people think that they are going to
another country to improve economically, but they end up being
a prisoner of a culture to which they do not want to belong,
8. ending up not being free at all.
Personal growth refers to improvements in habits,
behavior, actions, and reactions, but is often confused by people
with economic growth, so immigrants leave their country
looking for personal growth and the only thing they end up
finding is maybe more economic freedom, but no personal one.
People who are immigrants in a country will almost always
have noticeable differences with people from the country of
origin, so they must face them. This can end in many cases with
immigrants not being free since although they are not
imprisoned, there are certain actions towards them and
differences that will make them not be able to enjoy total
mental freedom, being that only when they manage to overcome
the state of non-freedom, they may just achieve personal
growth. People emigrate and immigrate in search of happiness
and freedom, but sometimes they end up not being free due to
the differences that they themselves decided to move to.
