Mathematics is not about numbers, equations, computations, or algorithms: it is about understanding

1. MATHEMATICIAN
Srinivasa Ramanujan was one of
India’s greatest Mathematical geniuses.He made
substantial contributions to the analytical theory
of numbers and worked on elliptic functions,
continued fractions, and infinite series.

2. PYTHAGORAS
Pythagoras was a Greek philosopher who
made important developments in mathematics,
astronomy, and the theory of music. The theorem
now known as Pythagoras's theorem was known
to the Babylonians 1000 years earlier but he may
have been the first to prove it.

3. ARYABHATTA
Aryabhatta was an extraordinary
teacher and scholar who had immense
knowledge about mathematics and
astronomy. He suggested the heliocentric
theory which proved that the sun is
located in the centre of the solar system
and all the planets revolve around it. In
fact he made this discovery way before
Copernicus made this discovery in the
West.

4. BRAHMAGUPTA
Brahmagupta was the foremost
Indian mathematician of his time. He made
advances in astronomy and most
importantly in number systems including
algorithm. One of the most significant
input of Brahmagupta to mathematics was
the introduction of ‘zero’ to the number
systems for square roots and the solution
of quadratic equations.

5. LEONHARD EULER
Leonhard Euler was one of math's most
pioneering thinkers, establishing a career as an
academy scholar and contributing greatly to the
fields of geometry, trigonometry and calculus,
among many others. He released hundreds of
articles and publications during his lifetime, and
continued to publish after losing his sight.

6. BERNHARD RIEMANN
Bernhard Riemann's ideas concerning
geometry of space had a profound effect on
the development of modern theoretical
physics. He clarified the notion of integral by
defining what we now call the Riemann
integral.

7. CARL FRIEDRICH GAUSS
Carl Friedrich Gauss worked
in a wide variety of fields in both
mathematics and physics incuding
number theory, analysis, differential
geometry, geodesy, magnetism,
astronomy and optics. His work has
had an immense influence in many
areas.
