4. Baudhayana
Baudhayana (800 BC - 740 BC) is
said to be the original
Mathematician behind the
Pythagoras theorem. Pythagoras
theorem was indeed known much
before Pythagoras, and it was
Indians who discovered it at least
1000 years before Pythagoras was
born! The credit for authoring the
earliest Sulba Sutras goes to
him. brought new deductions and
theories in mathematics and

5. Katyayana
Kātyāyana (c. 3rd century BCE)
is notable for being the last of
the Vedic mathematicians. He
wrote the Katyayana Sulba
Sutra, which presented much
geometry, including the general
Pythagorean theorem and a
computation of the square root
of 2 correct to five decimal
places.

6. Shridhar Acharya
Sridhara was an Indian
mathematician who wrote
on practical applications of
algebra and was one of the
first to give a formula for
solving quadratic equations.

7. Radhanath Sikdar
Radhanath Sikdar was the first
person to calculate the height of
Mount Everest, in 1852. The
brilliant student of mathematics at
Hindu College had mastered
Newtonian mathematics and
physics and invented a new way of
drawing a common tangent to two
circles when he was in his teens 7

8. Raj Chandra Bose
Raj Chandra Bose was an Indian
mathematician and statistician who
worked in America. He best known
for his work in design theory,
finite geometry and the theory of
error-correcting codes

9. Brahmagupta
Brahmagupta (ad 628) was the first
mathematician to provide the
formula for the area of a cyclic
quadrilateral. His contributions to
geometry are significant. He is the
first person to discuss the method of
finding a cyclic quadrilateral with
rational sides.

10. Bhaskara II
Bhāskara II, also called
Bhāskarācārya or Bhaskara the
Learned, (born 1114, Biddur,
India—died c. 1185, probably
Ujjain), the leading mathematician
of the 12th century, who wrote the
first work with full and
systematic use of the decimal
number system. 10
