Watch the video titled “Fruit Guys ─ Strategy,” located in Week
3 of your Blackboard course. Identify two or three (2-3)
businesses that could use the five (5) questions the Fruit Guys
used to determine effectiveness. Provide a rationale for your
answer.
The two businesses that I feel could use the five questions from
the Fruit Guy’s interview to determine effectiveness would be
retirement homes and contractors who are responsible for
cleaning large businesses. I chose retirement homes for the
elderly because I feel the employees responsibilities there can
be under rated at times. I would imagine it would be hard to
keep certified nursing assistance over a long period of time due
to the heavy lifting, changing diapers and getting the patients
dressed just to name a few. The video talked about how when a
company has an employee who has value in their talent and does
a good job of how offering benefits to their position could push
the employee to stay loyal to the company longer therefore
being able to provide more service while spending less on
constantly hiring more people. With the contractors who are
responsible for cleaning large buildings I chose them because a
job like that would require specific instructions on how neat and
tidy the company would want their business to look by opening
the next day and the last thing they need is someone who feels
underappreciated to half do their job. A large corporation who
uses a cleaning service would have a reputation to uphold on the
cleanliness of their building especially if it is like a law firm or
maybe even a real estate business for example.
Pick an organization with which you have familiarity. Then do a
competitive environmental scan for that organization. Assess
how the competitive environment for the company you
researched affects the HR function for the organization.
Determine which strategy would be best suited to address the
effects discussed.
An organization that I am familiar with is Wells Fargo Bank.
The competitive environmental scan for that organization was
its competition, the economics, technology as well as legal
issues. These pointers are important to look into because they
can be detrimental to the company’s reputation when their
customers are leaving reviews not to mention experiencing the
services they provide. These functions affects the HR function
of the organization because people want to feel like they work
for a winning company that is well respected. When working in
a bank it can require hiring qualifications of Associate,
Bachelors or even a Master’s degree so with going to school
learning everything you can about working in a bank more than
likely before applying to one an individual may want to get to
know what they can about the company. If a company has bad
ratings or a bad reputation it could potentially take away or
scare off well qualified staff. The strategy I thought of that
would be consistent with a bank was with using the S.W.O.T
analysis.
Write 5–7-page rationale and program description for a
religious conference, based on a provided scenario.
Use the following scenario as the basis for this assessment:
Imagine that you work for your city's events department and
have been placed in charge of setting up a religious conference
for the three most-represented religions in your area. The goal
of the conference is to celebrate their traditions and create an
opportunity for dialogue amongst the groups and non-members.
Your supervisor would like you to create a rationale and
conference program description that ensures that each religious
group is fairly represented and will be informative for all
attendees.
Deliverables
Event Rationale
Determine the three most-represented religions in your area, and
develop a rationale for the conference that discusses the
benefits of celebrating these different religions:
· Describe the target audience(s) for the conference and why
they were chosen.
· Discuss the importance of celebrating the diversity of these
religions at this event.
· Discuss ways that this event might influence attendees'
reactions and responses to religious, cultural, and global
differences.
· Discuss why different religions should be discussed and
celebrated objectively by using the vocabulary and language of
religious studies and globalism.
Conference Program Description
Develop a conference program description that includes the
following:
· Fictional biographies of conference speakers who represent
each religion. Includes their professional backgrounds and why
they are qualified to speak on the topics of ritual, myth, the
sacred, and globalism as they relate to their religion. For
example:
. Imam, who recently arrived from Egypt.
. A rabbi who has lived in the city all his life.
. A Buddhist monk who has recently arrived from Thailand.
· Description of conference sessions—provide detailed
introductions for each religion on these topics:
. Mythology, ritual, and the sacred.
. The impact of globalism in the last 20 years.
. The commonalities among religions (specifically the three you
have identified). This does not require a point of view from
each religion.
Note: This is not a full conference program that would normally
include agendas, times, logistics, et cetera. Instead focus on
addressing the bullet points above.
Additional Requirements
· Resources: Include a separate reference page with supporting
resources. Resources and citations should be formatted
according to current APA style and formatting.
· Length: 5–7 pages.
· Font and font size: Times New Roman, 12 point.
Create a 15–20-page presentation on Islam, its ritual of
marriage, and its global reach, along with a 2-page description
of your personal opinions regarding inter-faith marriage.
Preparation
Choose a country from the list below, and read the following
scenario to use as the basis for this assessment.
Countries
· Saudi Arabia.
· Iraq.
· Iran.
· Egypt.
· Algeria.
Scenario
Imagine you are a part of a large and close family. Much of
what holds your family together is a common belief system,
specifically that of the Catholic faith. Your sister, who has been
working in a foreign country teaching English (the country you
selected above), announces that she is getting engaged. It turns
out the person she wishes to marry is from the country in which
she has been living and working and also is a devotee of that
country's primary religion.
The couple plans to hold the wedding in the groom's home
country and in accordance with the rituals of his religion. The
reaction within the family is one of shock and disappointment.
While your parents are unhappy about the proposed union, the
more important issue is your mother's unyielding insistence for
a ceremony that reflects the matrimonial traditions of her faith.
She refuses to attend a wedding in which her daughter does not
adhere to those traditions.
You believe your mother's position may be based on her lack of
understanding of the groom's religion, its rituals, and its
culture. You have decided to conduct some research to educate
yourself and your mother on the important elements of the
religion.
Deliverables
Part 1 – Examination of Islam
Conduct a 15–20-page examination of Islam in which you do the
following:
· Offer a basic introduction to Islam that minimally includes:
. Founder and brief historical timeline.
. Sacred texts.
. God.
. Myths.
· Compare aspects of a ritual associated with the religion's
marriage ceremony with aspects of a respective ritual found in
the Catholic faith. Include images or other supporting materials
that effectively demonstrate the comparisons. Be sure to give
proper credit to images when appropriate.
· Describe the nature and function of marriage in the religion.
Include the expectations of each spouse.
· Describe elements of Islam's global reach including:
. Forces that brought the couple together (for example, interests
of Muslims in learning English, desire for cultural exchange,
opportunity, et cetera).
. Where it is practiced (inside and out of the country).
. A discussion of its adherents (demographics).
. Major sects.
. Projections for its expansion or declination.
Note: Use a format to present information that is appropriate for
its delivery. Examples include a slide show, album, or letter.
Consider using visual elements to enhance the presentation.
Make sure to provide proper credits where appropriate.
Part 2 – Personal Beliefs
In 2 pages, describe your own position on the matter and the
actions (or inaction) you might take in light of your
understanding of the situation.
Additional Requirements
· Resources: Include a separate reference page with supporting
resources. Resources and citations should be formatted
according to current APA style and formatting.
· Length: Presentation: 15–20 pages; personal beliefs: 2 pages,
typed and double-spaced).
· Font and font size: Times New Roman, 12 point.
Write a 10-page brief on the interplay of business, religion,
Indian culture, and globalism, using a provided scenario.
Scenario
Use the following scenario as the basis for this assessment:
Imagine you work for a Canadian information technology
company interested in establishing an office in India. Because
part of the company's strategic plan includes relocating some of
its domestic employees, nearly all of whom are long-time
residents of North America, to Bangalore, your company has
recognized the importance of preparing them to live in another
culture.
Your supervisor learns that you have interest and/or expertise in
this area and asks you to prepare a brief that serves as an
introduction to Indian culture and Hindu religion and their
interplay with the forces of globalism. This brief will be shared
with the initiative's working group to help shape future
decisions on employee training and preparation.
Deliverable
Create a ten-page brief for decision makers in which you do
each of the following:
· Discuss briefly the history, beliefs, traditions, present-day
geography, and peoples of India.
· Discuss the interrelationship between Indian culture and the
Hindu religion. Include the following:
. A description of three instances of tensions that exist between
the two in modern-day India.
. A description of three instances where the two enjoy harmony
and integration.
· Discuss the religion's and culture's reaction to the forces of
globalism since the government of Indira Gandhi.
· Discuss three recent examples of the culture's reactions or
contributions to the global community, such as women's rights,
pop culture, wealth distribution, tourism, et cetera. What has
been their impact? Why is it significant?
· Describe concerns that you have with integrating your
employees into the Indian culture. How have your personal
values shaped these concerns?

· Resources: Include a separate reference page with a minimum
of three supporting resources. Resources and citations should be
formatted according to current APA style and formatting.
· Length: 10 typed, double-spaced pages.
· Font and font size: Times New Roman, 12 point.
For this two-part assessment, using a provided scenario create
1) a promotional brochure for an educational trip geared toward
helping participants learn about a different religion and 2) a 4–
6-page workshop summary about the interplay of Christianity, a
chosen religion, and globalism.
Scenario
Use the following scenario as a basis for this assessment:
Imagine that you attend a Christian church in California and
have been asked by your minister to lead a trip to one of the
countries in Southeast Asia (listed below) to study one of its
non-Christian dominant religions. The minister wants this to be
an educational experience, not a missionary one, so the group is
planning to focus on learning about another religion, not
converting its adherents.
Choose a religion that is prevalent in one of the following
countries:
· Cambodia.
· China.
· Indonesia.
· Laos.
· Korea.
· Myanmar.
· Thailand.
Deliverables
Complete each of the following two parts.
Part 1 – Promotional Brochure
Create a promotional brochure or Web page (consider using an
MS Word or other kind of template to jumpstart the process)
highlighting aspects of the trip. Include:
· A basic description of the religion that minimally includes its
tenets, history, geographical footprint, and adherents.
· A personal note from you, the tour leader, on why you think
this trip is important and what about it intrigues you. This is
meant to be a personal appeal designed to capture the
imagination of potential travelers. Be creative and enthusiastic.
· An itinerary that includes events that focus on two examples
from each of the following areas of study.
. The Sacred – What you will see in terms of sacred spaces?
. Include two sacred places to be visited (for example, a
Buddhist temple in Chaing Mai).
. Articulate why these places are sacred.
· Mythology – What you will hear in terms of mythology?
. Describe two myths associated with the religion.
. Include two possible types of speakers or guides that talk
about the religion's mythical aspects (for example, a local
storyteller, scholar, or religious guide; include their
qualifications or why they were chosen).
· Ritual – What you will experience in terms of ritual?
. Include a brief background on two rituals observed by the
religion that you will experience.
. Describe the rituals and their meaning to those that practice
them.
Notes for Part 1:
· You do not need to include precise logistical details such as
cost, airfare, contacts, et cetera that you might normally see in a
promotional brochure. Concentrate on the "journey in the
destination."
· Feel free to be creative in your design. If you include images,
make sure you include the proper credits where applicable.
Part 2 – Culture and Religion Workshop
To prepare travelers for the trip, plan a workshop to educate
them on the interplay of Christianity, your chosen religion, and
globalism. Write a 4–6-page workshop program that summarizes
each of the workshop sessions as outlined below:
Session 1: An Introduction
Provide an introduction of your chosen religion, including its:
· History and expansion.
· Followers.
· Basic beliefs.
· Current issues associated with globalism; for example: poverty
and wealth, ecological issues, women's rights, et cetera.
Session 2: Relationship of Culture and Its Religion
· How culture and religion reflect one another.
· Divergence of culture from religion.
Session 3: Comparing Myth, Ritual, and the Sacred With
Christianity
· Discuss three similarities and differences of myth, ritual, and
the sacred, when compared with Christianity.
Additional Requirements
· Formatting: Deliverables should be formatting using
conventions that are normally associated with products of their
type.
· Resources: Include a separate reference page with a minimum
of three supporting resources. Resources and citations should be
formatted according to current APA style and formatting.
· Length: Part 2 should be 4–6 typed, double-spaced pages.
· Font and font size: Times New Roman, 12 point.
· Write a 4–6-page letter to a hypothetical audience on the
subject of defining region, using a provided scenario.
Formatting: The letter should be formatted as a traditional
business letter.
· Resources: Include a separate reference page with a minimum
of three supporting resources. Resources and citations should be
formatted according to current APA style and formatting.
· Length: 4–6 typed, double-spaced pages.
· Font and font size: Times New Roman, 12 point.
Preparation
Use the Resources, the Capella University Library, and the
Internet to research examples of instances of controversy
surrounding the issue of inclusion of non-traditional (to the
location) religious practices, rituals, accommodations, and so on
in local institutions, events, policies, et cetera. You will use
this information to write a letter on the subject of how to define
religion and promote religious inclusiveness. In addition, read
the following definitions of religion and the scenario. You will
use the scenario as the basis for this assessment.
Three Definitions of Religion
These definitions are from the media presentation
Understanding Religion: Awe and Reconnection, linked in the
Resources.
1. Rudolph Otto in The Idea of the Holy: "Religion is the
experience of the numinous, that is, a feeling of tremendous
mystery and fascination produced by an experience of the
'wholly other.'"
2. Re-ligare: From the same Latin root as ligament. By
extension, to "reconnect" to the world after an experience of the
"wholly other."
3. William James in The Varieties of Religious Experience:
"[Religion] consists of the belief that there is an unseen order,
and that our supreme good lies in harmoniously adjusting
ourselves thereto."
Scenario
A school in your district is asking students to prepare
presentations for their annual international festival. Several
students have indicated that they would like their work to focus
on world religions that do not have a founder, sacred text,
established institutions, and/or deities like the religions that are
prominent in the district.
Some parents have objected to these inclusions by proclaiming
"Those are not real religions." A decision has been made by the
school board to be inclusive in their curriculum, and the school
board has stated their support of allowing students to present on
their religion of choice.
Imagine you are a member of the school board whose job it is to
articulate the position of the board and communicate why a
religion is valid when applying scholarly definitions.
Deliverable
Choose an indigenous religion that does not possess one or more
of the following qualities:
· A founder.
· A sacred text.
· Institutions.
· A single deity.
Write a letter to the school community that provides a
compelling narrative explaining the board's decision to allow
the inclusion of the religions in question into the festival. Your
letter should contain the following:
· An introduction of the issue and the religion you chose to
exemplify the board's rationale for its decision.
· A discussion of how the religion you chose fulfills the three
definitions of religion listed above.
· A description of how your personal understanding of what
constitutes a religion evolved when you considered scholarly
definitions of religion.
· A discussion of possible negative consequences when there is
a failure to recognize the validity of a religion or culture
(because of its rituals, mythology, or the sacred beliefs) by a
country or regionally dominate group. Analyze an historical
example to support your discussion.
· A comparison of commonalities that exist between your
chosen religion and Judaism (as it is one of the dominant
religions in the district) in terms of the sacred.
· A conclusion that articulates at least two reasons why
religious inclusiveness is increasingly important in the age of
globalization.

  • 1. Watch the video titled “Fruit Guys ─ Strategy,” located in Week 3 of your Blackboard course. Identify two or three (2-3) businesses that could use the five (5) questions the Fruit Guys used to determine effectiveness. Provide a rationale for your answer. The two businesses that I feel could use the five questions from the Fruit Guy’s interview to determine effectiveness would be retirement homes and contractors who are responsible for cleaning large businesses. I chose retirement homes for the elderly because I feel the employees responsibilities there can be under rated at times. I would imagine it would be hard to keep certified nursing assistance over a long period of time due to the heavy lifting, changing diapers and getting the patients dressed just to name a few. The video talked about how when a company has an employee who has value in their talent and does a good job of how offering benefits to their position could push the employee to stay loyal to the company longer therefore being able to provide more service while spending less on constantly hiring more people. With the contractors who are responsible for cleaning large buildings I chose them because a job like that would require specific instructions on how neat and tidy the company would want their business to look by opening the next day and the last thing they need is someone who feels underappreciated to half do their job. A large corporation who uses a cleaning service would have a reputation to uphold on the cleanliness of their building especially if it is like a law firm or maybe even a real estate business for example. Pick an organization with which you have familiarity. Then do a competitive environmental scan for that organization. Assess how the competitive environment for the company you researched affects the HR function for the organization. Determine which strategy would be best suited to address the
  • 2. effects discussed. An organization that I am familiar with is Wells Fargo Bank. The competitive environmental scan for that organization was its competition, the economics, technology as well as legal issues. These pointers are important to look into because they can be detrimental to the company’s reputation when their customers are leaving reviews not to mention experiencing the services they provide. These functions affects the HR function of the organization because people want to feel like they work for a winning company that is well respected. When working in a bank it can require hiring qualifications of Associate, Bachelors or even a Master’s degree so with going to school learning everything you can about working in a bank more than likely before applying to one an individual may want to get to know what they can about the company. If a company has bad ratings or a bad reputation it could potentially take away or scare off well qualified staff. The strategy I thought of that would be consistent with a bank was with using the S.W.O.T analysis. Write 5–7-page rationale and program description for a religious conference, based on a provided scenario. Use the following scenario as the basis for this assessment: Imagine that you work for your city's events department and have been placed in charge of setting up a religious conference for the three most-represented religions in your area. The goal of the conference is to celebrate their traditions and create an opportunity for dialogue amongst the groups and non-members. Your supervisor would like you to create a rationale and conference program description that ensures that each religious group is fairly represented and will be informative for all attendees. Deliverables Event Rationale Determine the three most-represented religions in your area, and develop a rationale for the conference that discusses the
  • 3. benefits of celebrating these different religions: · Describe the target audience(s) for the conference and why they were chosen. · Discuss the importance of celebrating the diversity of these religions at this event. · Discuss ways that this event might influence attendees' reactions and responses to religious, cultural, and global differences. · Discuss why different religions should be discussed and celebrated objectively by using the vocabulary and language of religious studies and globalism. Conference Program Description Develop a conference program description that includes the following: · Fictional biographies of conference speakers who represent each religion. Includes their professional backgrounds and why they are qualified to speak on the topics of ritual, myth, the sacred, and globalism as they relate to their religion. For example: . Imam, who recently arrived from Egypt. . A rabbi who has lived in the city all his life. . A Buddhist monk who has recently arrived from Thailand. · Description of conference sessions—provide detailed introductions for each religion on these topics: . Mythology, ritual, and the sacred. . The impact of globalism in the last 20 years. . The commonalities among religions (specifically the three you have identified). This does not require a point of view from each religion. Note: This is not a full conference program that would normally include agendas, times, logistics, et cetera. Instead focus on addressing the bullet points above. Scenario Imagine you are a part of a large and close family. Much of what holds your family together is a common belief system, specifically that of the Catholic faith. It turns out the person she wishes to marry is from the country in which she has been living and working and also is a devotee of that country's primary religion. The couple plans to hold the wedding in the groom's home country and in accordance with the rituals of his religion. The reaction within the family is one of shock and disappointment. While your parents are unhappy about the proposed union, the more important issue is your mother's unyielding insistence for a ceremony that reflects the matrimonial traditions of her faith. She refuses to attend a wedding in which her daughter does not adhere to those traditions. You believe your mother's position may be based on her lack of understanding of the groom's religion, its rituals, and its culture. You have decided to conduct some research to educate

Deliverables Part 1 – Examination of Islam Conduct a 15–20-page examination of Islam in which you do the following: · Offer a basic introduction to Islam that minimally includes: . Founder and brief historical timeline. . Sacred texts. . God. . Myths. · Compare aspects of a ritual associated with the religion's marriage ceremony with aspects of a respective ritual found in the Catholic faith. Include images or other supporting materials that effectively demonstrate the comparisons. The minister wants this to be an educational experience, not a missionary one, so the group is planning to focus on learning about another religion, not converting its adherents. Preparation Use the Resources, the Capella University Library, and the Internet to research examples of instances of controversy surrounding the issue of inclusion of non-traditional (to the location) religious practices, rituals, accommodations, and so on in local institutions, events, policies, et cetera. You will use this information to write a letter on the subject of how to define religion and promote religious inclusiveness. In addition, read the following definitions of religion and the scenario. You will use the scenario as the basis for this assessment. Three Definitions of Religion These definitions are from the media presentation Understanding Religion: Awe and Reconnection, linked in the Resources. 1. Rudolph Otto in The Idea of the Holy: "Religion is the experience of the numinous, that is, a feeling of tremendous mystery and fascination produced by an experience of the 'wholly other.'" 2. Re-ligare: From the same Latin root as ligament. By extension, to "reconnect" to the world after an experience of the "wholly other." 3. William James in The Varieties of Religious Experience: "[Religion] consists of the belief that there is an unseen order, and that our supreme good lies in harmoniously adjusting ourselves thereto." Scenario A school in your district is asking students to prepare presentations for their annual international festival. Several students have indicated that they would like their work to focus on world religions that do not have a founder, sacred text,
  • 11. established institutions, and/or deities like the religions that are prominent in the district. Some parents have objected to these inclusions by proclaiming "Those are not real religions." A decision has been made by the school board to be inclusive in their curriculum, and the school board has stated their support of allowing students to present on their religion of choice. Imagine you are a member of the school board whose job it is to articulate the position of the board and communicate why a religion is valid when applying scholarly definitions. Deliverable Choose an indigenous religion that does not possess one or more of the following qualities: · A founder. · A sacred text. · Institutions. · A single deity.
