Access: Physical (floods, lack roads), economic,
parent & societal influence and attitudes towards
education
Lack amenities: Electricity, internet, health
facilities

4. Schools on oil palm estates.
Children and their parents cannot
leave the estate for fear of
capture. They have no
documentation.
5. What Etania does:
Sets up schools
Trains teachers
Partners with other established schools for support
(at home and abroad)
Provides Coalition teacher training
Ensures a relevant and quality learning program in
a caring school environment
Supports families
A pressure group (news, media, informal
conversations, conferences etc)
6. Focus on their individual needs
and not the curriculum
Teaches important areas
missing from the Indonesian
curriculum (they have not had
the expected background

- Education is for all - no
discrimination of any sort
-These children are not at the bottom of
the scale. They are equal in every way
with mainstream children.
-Build self-confidence and pride in
themselves. A strong belief that “I can
do it, and I will.”

-All children must be happy so school
must be a fun and happy place with
joyful teachers.
