Cereal at the Store Study
Introduction Breakfast cereal is a commonly eaten food in the United States. According to the
website CEEREAL of the European breakfast cereal Association, the first ever cereal was granola
which was invented by James Caleb Jackson in 1863 who was the operator of the Jackson Sanitarian
in the state of New York (Ceereal). It would not catch on due to the long prep time needed to make
the cereal edible. In 1889 two brothers W.K. Kellogg, and his brother, Dr. John Harvey Kellogg,
what accidentally create arguably the first commercially successful breakfast cereal(Kellogg 's.com).

I would observe the way the customers would buy there cereal as well, such is the customers had
kids or by observing there basket was there a possibility that health consciousness may be an issue. I
would start Friday night at Kroger at Brewers Yard, which is a large Kroger store that also feature a
liqueur store and a bistro. The demographics is very diverse due to it central location and the
surrounding neighborhoods. This store can cater to traditional working class urbanites to the affluent
suburbanite who works downtown and stop at this location to buy groceries before going home.
Given this diverse clientele I concluded this store would be a good store to observe. When I enter
the store the first thing I did was walk towards the cereal Aisle which is in the middle of the store.
Once I was in the cereal aisle, I would notice that besides cereal the also contained other breakfast
foods such as Pop Tarts, breakfast bars, and oatmeal. The aisle also contained products to make
other breakfast food such as an egg poacher and a breakfast sandwich maker. Finally I would
observe that the area also was where the Tea and hot chocolate is located which usually complement
breakfast. I would next focus on the Cereal Aisle I would first discover how the cereal was arranged.
At this location the cereal was arranged according to brands. One section of the aisle was dedicated
to Kellogg products such as raisin brand

Kellogg's History : Kellogg Brand
Kellogg's history Kellogg is a company that has been around for over 100 years. William Kellogg
and his brother Dr, John Harvey, started the company in 1868. In 1898 they were able to create the
first flake created from toasted maize and in 1902 they were able to create a cereal with a longer
shelf life. The company started out really small, they only accepted orders through mail and they
sold primarily to people they were affiliated with. They eventually came up with the idea to brand
themselves and they posted ads in newspapers and on billboards; this was the time that people
started to recognize them as competition; in 1900 more than forty cereal companies were in
competition with the Kellogg brand. John Harvey had a really big idea in mind when coming up
with the Kellogg brand. Mr. Harvey was not a strong business man in fact he did not care about the
business aspect at all, but instead he focused on a way to reform the way Americans ate, he came up
with a way to make the cereal rich in nutrients. On the other hand his brother, W.K Kellogg, was
completely focused on the business aspect. This led him to found the Battle Creek Toasted
Cornflake Company in 1906; at this time he also purchased the rights to the cornflake. The
difference between the two brothers is what most would have thought made the company work so
well. The two partners eventually had a falling out over the name of the company and W.K took
John Harvey to court where he won the law suit to be able to

Comparing Kellogg's Version Of Great Value Shredded Wheat
a) While I stopped at my local Wal–Mart to pick up a few things I did notice that one of the items
my children did like was the Kellogg's Frosted Mini Wheat's cereal, and as I looked a little down the
isle I saw Wal–Mart's Version called Great Value Shredded Wheat. As I took a closer look, for the
first time in a while I noticed the similarities in terms how the picture was positioned on both boxes.
How the look was different yet similar in an odd way. The Wal–Mart version was indeed presented
as a version of the same cereal offered by Kellogg's, but at a lower cost for those cost conscious
consumers. They were placed in similar fashion further down the isle, but not to much further. It had
its own sections of Great Value cereal products that

Kellogg's Diversity Report
Executive Summary The Kellogg Company, though older than most companies, has been making
progress toward changing workforce attitudes surrounding diversity since about 2005. The company
recognizes the growing need of a diverse workforce in order to sustain a competitive advantage in
an increasingly global market, as well as for the welfare of its employees. The application process
even promotes diversity, in order to welcome potential candidates from any background. Kellogg's

is one of the most powerful and popular food companies in the world, being marketed in over 180

Kellogg's Mission Statement
In 1906, Kellogg's was founded by W.K. Kellogg and his brother, Dr. John Harvey Kellogg after
their failed attempt at making granola. Surprisingly this failed attempt worked out in their favor
because the two brothers were able to create the delicious recipe for some of our favorite cereal
today Kellogg's Corn Flakes. In 1914, Kellogg's was introduced into Canada which opened doors
allowing the company to later open factories in Australia, England, Mexico, Japan, and India just to
name a few. Kellogg's mission statement is "to enrich and delight the world through foods and
brands that matter" ("Kellogg's Promise to You", 2017). Kellogg is best known for most popular

Kellogg Company 's Annual Report Project
Introduction I chose Kellogg Company for my annual report project because I like to work with a
company that I familiar with. In other words, I like to do a project on a company that carries
products my family uses. I tried to order an annual report from a few companies such as Apple,
Pepsi, Toyota, and Kellogg. However, I have not received any physical annual report copy from any
other company yet. I was lucky that the Kellogg Company shipped me its physical annual report.
Most other companies just provided me with their online annual report. If I chose a different
company, I would need to print out an annual report online that contains many pages. It was easier
to have a hard copy of the annual report so that I could look for information and make notes, so I
can go back to it if I needed to. Because the Kellogg Company carries many kinds of cereals that my
kids like to eat as well as having an annual report printed out, doing the annual report project on the
Kellogg Company was the best choice. Information about the company Kellogg's world–corporate

Kroger's Module Analysis
Introduction
The cereal aisle analysis took place at Consumer Square West Shopping Center at the Kroger's
located on Soldano Blvd in Columbus, Ohio. The analysis was completed on Saturday, July 11,
2015 from 12:19 p.m. until 1:10 p.m. The cereal aisle was located in the middle of the store and was
6ft by 30ft. The store carried four brands of cereal. "A brand is a type of product manufactured by a
particular company under a particular name" (Merriam–Webster, Incorporated, 2015). The three
brands offered at Kroger's were Kellogg, General Mills, Quaker and Kroger. The Kellogg brand had
18 different types of cereal with each cereal having 1 to 10 different varieties. The General Mills
brand had 14 different brands with 1 to 12 different varieties. ... Show more content on

Reviewing the consumer purchases history through their individual Kroger reward cards and the
individual customer payment type could verify this hypothesis. If this hypothesis is proven, Kroger's
should adjust its sale items to include more of a variety of cereals. Offering more cereals that are not
sugar filled cereals and are more designed toward older customers give those consumers that
purchases that are influenced by their income, lifestyle and life stage a better selection to purchase
more cereals. Offering more items in the sale items gives Kroger's a better chance of influencing
their customers to make the decision to purchase more items while still feeling they are getting a
good value for their money.
There are questions that need to be answered in order to prove this hypothesis. These questions are:
What is the average income of the customers that shop at Kroger's?; What is the ratio between the
older customers and the younger customers who shop at Kroger's?; What are the types of sales at
other Kroger's?; How satisfied are customers in the selection of cereals and their prices in

Cereal Is A Common Household Breakfast Item Developed By...
Cereal is a common household breakfast item developed in the United States and produced using
processed grains. In 1830, Dr. Sylvester Graham, a Presbyterian minister, in expressing his distaste
for the traditional carnivorous English breakfast and preaching Christian vegetarianism, developed
Graham flour , the first modern whole wheat grain flour , and Graham crackers, made of Graham
flours. Subsequently, "Dr. James Jackson of New York, [purchased] large quantities of Graham
flour, [baked] them up, [rebaked] them, and [broke] them again" to create a breakfast product named
granula, and that became the first modern breakfast cereal manufactured. In 1887, John Harvey

Breakfast cereal is made of wheat, which is generally produced by harvesting grains from
commercial crops. Depending on winter conditions, wheat could be grown as a winter crop or as a
spring crop. Modern wheat farmers use an apparatus called combine harvester to collect wheat
products, which could harvest wheat automatically without requiring extensive labor on wheat
farmers . According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Statistical Services Bureau, the average
farm size in the United States is 432 acres in 2012, a 3.8 percent increase from the 2007 figure of
418 acres. However, only 1/3 of these lands are exclusively used for grain harvesting. Specifically,

Old habits die hard, especially when it comes to Indian eating habits. When Kellogg India Ltd.
(Kellogg's), the wholly owned subsidiary of the US$ 7–billion Kellogg Company, entered the 3000–

Kellogg's products failed in the

Meanwhile, negative media coverage regarding the products increased, as more and more
consumers were reportedly rejecting the taste. Converting the experimenters into regular buyers had
become a major problem for the company. Realising that a major reason for Kellogg's failure was
the fact that the taste of its products did not suit Indian breakfast habits, it came up with the idea of
Indianisation of the taste. Kellogg decided to launch two of its highly successful brands – Chocos

Taking a Look at the Kellogg's Company
An American company, Kellogg's was founded by Will Keith Kellogg and was formed on 19th of
February 1906 as a world's leading cereal producer that headquartered in Battle Creek, Michigan,
United States. This case study investigates that how Kellogg's sets up a communication plan to
achieve its goals. A good communication is an essential for the company to send out the message
they want and I will determine the effectiveness of their communication plan by using most suitable
medium.
According to Keyton (2011), he defines communication is a process occurs between two parties
sharing their ideas, thoughts, feelings and words to each other and any problem (known as noise)
happens in middle of sending message could be reduced or affected the effectiveness of
communication. For example, an effective communication is exchanging information and getting
response from receiver which called two–way communication. Kellogg's devised a communication
plan effectively passing the message across to the public internal and external. Communication
process used by Kellogg's is sender, encoding, selecting a medium of transmission, target audience,
evaluation feedback. Firstly, sender has an idea or content that wants to share it out, and express it to
a message's form such as face expressions, actions or words by encoding. The message is a result of
encoding and it can be formed to verbal or non–verbal. Then, selecting a suitable medium or
channel (by telephone, memo, meeting, face–to–face)

been researched in order to identify how each company is affected by demographic factors, how
these factors are managed, and what systems are implemented to enhance the success of the

While remaining a superior global food company, Kellogg's management realized that they had to
have the strongest possible resources to support their business growth in a diverse and competitive
environment (Kellogg, 2009). Likewise, Starbucks is managing its competition challenges; the
current economic conditions are factors that Starbucks needs to consider in order to market the new
products to preserve its clientele and bring in new customers. Hence, Starbucks is wise to use the
four P's model; Price, Product, Place, and Promotion, to determine the course of action best suited to
stay ahead of the competition. To be clear, both Kellogg and Starbucks are managing the effects of
postmodernity; that is, "postmodertnity describes our time and situation–today's world in flux, with
people on the move who have learned to manage multiple identities depending on place and
context" (Kottak & Kozaitis, 2003, Ch. p. 29). To manage the influence of postmodernity within the
context of demographic factors, Kellogg and Starbucks are implementing strategic approaches to aid
them in their success involving global and cultural diversity. For example, Kellogg committed itself
to developing a comprehensive and ground–breaking supplier diversity program. This program was
to cultivate strategic procurement relationships with W/MBE–owned, controlled and operated

company to put nutrition labels, recipes, and product information on the back and sides of their
cereal boxes in the 1930s. The company wants their consumers to be well informed of what is in
their products so that they can decide for themselves if it's right for their families. According to
msnbc.com, Kellogg has also taken a step further from choosing to stop advertising to young
children by also deciding to increase the nutritional value of the snacks and cereals that are targeted
at children. The company is showing that they have genuine concern for children and are taking
steps to make their products healthier for them.

Promotional Strategy Suggestions for Exercise Equipment...
Promotional Strategy Suggestions for Exercise Equipment and Breakfast Cereal
For any product to be sold successfully, especially to the mass market, the firm selling the product
will need to be marketed with a promotion. Promotion is one of the four elements of the marketing
mix, referring to the way in which a product is promoted this is more than just advertising, it
includes public relations, endorsement and any activity which will help to increase awareness of the
product and support the development of sales (Hooley et al, 2007). Promotional strategies are
required in order to create awareness in the potential target market regarding the product, and to help
stimulate sales by influencing the decision making process (Kotler and Keller, 2011). In order to
demonstrate the application of promotion strategies to different products can be examined, with
promotional strategies those products suggested. The two products are exercise equipment and
breakfast cereals.
Exercise Equipment
Designing a commercial strategy to exercise equipment requires the marketer to identify the
message that will suitably communicate not only the purpose and function of the product being sold,
but why and how it will satisfy needs of the consumer. Kotler and Keller (2011) argue that people do
not buy products; they buy the benefits that are provided by the product. For example, when
purchasing a bed the buyer is purchasing the ability to get a good night's sleep, when a consumer
purchases a

How CPW can create a blue ocean strategy.
Creating a blue ocean strategy is highly challenging for CPW with a market leader like Kellogg's
Company. In a rapidly changing environment where people are moving more in to fast foods, on–
the–go breakfast like ready–to–eat breakfast bars, muffins and bagels and neglecting their breakfast
can lead to a challenge for all the cereal companies. The fast food chains like KFC and McDonald's
increasing their market shares act as entrants of substitutes and alternative products which have led
to a threat for breakfast cereal producers.
By analyzing these modernized trends in different cultures around the world, blue ocean strategies
as below can be implemented by CPW.
a. Launching Cereal Breakfast Bars
Launching small size breakfast cereal bars which will serve different types of breakfast cereals in
bowls. This can also be extended to a franchising model.
Coming to an agreement with the existing fast food chains such as KFC and McDonald's for an
opportunity of serving cereals in their franchises will also be a good strategy.

Kellogg Case Study
Introduction
When preparing a strategy for success, a business needs to be clear about what it wants to achieve. It
needs to know how it is going to turn its desires into reality in the face of intense competition.
Setting clear and specific aims and objectives is vital for a business to compete. However, a business
must also be aware of why it is different to others in the same market. This case study looks at the
combination of these elements and shows how Kellogg prepared a successful strategy by setting
aims and objectives linked to its unique brand. One of the most powerful tools that organisations use
is branding. A brand is a name, design, symbol or major feature that helps to identify one or more

These were designed to meet the stated aim and range of business objectives. In the area of food

other major manufacturers, Kellogg introduced a new format in May 2006, with GDAs clearly

Will Keith Kellogg's Life
Will Keith Kellogg come into the world on April 7,1860 in Battle Creek Michigan. John and Ann
Kellogg believed that hard work and being kind to people was the best way of life. When Willie was
old enough to walk, he helped his mother work in the garden and do the laundry. At the age of 7
Willie started to work at his father's broom company in the afternoons and weekends. His parents
thought that with the money he earned Will should buy his own clothes. During the day he went to
school. Will was shy and did not have many friends. His teachers thought he was dumb but really he
could not see the blackboard because he needed glasses, which he later got when he was 13. His
parents did not care much about his grades as long as he was working hard and doing his best.
At the age of 13 Will was a tall skinny young man. He quit school and became a full time brooms
salesmen for his father's company. He enjoyed traveling by train and was fascinated by this new way
of traveling. In 1878, George King asked Will to come and work as a salesman for his broom
company in Dallas, Texas. Will was bored in Battle Creek and wanted adventure. So he took the job
and moved to Dallas, Texas. After a year, Will quit with Mr. King because he was a bad business

Kellogg's Failure Essay
Introduction
This project report talks about the reasons for the failure of Kellogg's in India and what strategies it
can take up in future to build itself as a brand in India.
Kellogg's created a new category of branded breakfast cereal products throughout the world. Over
the longer period of time, it has successfully been able to change eating habits of consumers and has
converted various nations as corn flakes eating nations. After capturing over 40% US's ready–to–eat
market in breakfast cereals alone, Kelloggs introduced its flagship products into Indian markets in
1994. India at that time has over 950 million inhabitants, 250 of whom were middle class.
The Indians found the notion of having cereal as a breakfast a new one as consumers ... Show more

Premium pricing policy
The competitive brands in the market were selling the similar product at 1/3rd price of Kellogg's and
hence Kellogg failed to attract price conscious Indian households. Even after losing its market share,
Kellogg's failed to understand the nuance of Indian market.
4. Wrong promotion
Kellogg in its initial advertisements questioned the nutrition quotient of Indian breakfast and
suggested that Indian food was not very good for health. This deeply offended the emotions of
Indian ladies who had been serving traditional breakfast for ages to their families.
5. Inadequate market research
Kellogg's executives overestimated the target segment of Indian market. They came with the figure
of 950 million people as if everyone eats breakfast in Indian, everyone who eats breakfast would
potentially want to eat corn flakes. What Kellogg didn't know, as Homi Bhabha, director of
Harvard's Faculty of Arts and Sciences' Humanities center stated at the time, "was that Indians,
rather like the Chinese, think that to start the day with something cold, like cold milk on your cereal,
is a shock to the system. You start it with warm milk." Thus kellogg failed to provide the product
that catered to Indian

Grant Proposal Requirements
Applying the strategies for writing proposals studied this week, I will be comparing the grant
proposal requirements for three separate foundations. The organizations being investigated are the
W.K. Kellogg, the Sherman, and Mellon Foundation. Furthermore, I will proceed by reviewing the
specific needs for each proposal distinguishing which elements remained the same across each
foundation. Moreover, I continue by noting any changes that must be made to the strategy used to
produce a proposal. Finally, I present any challenges that may arise from utilizing an online proposal
process versus a paper–based process.

the elements varied, the standard ones were projected goals, project summary, budget plan,

were no significant changes I found to be necessary when applying for a proposal online. In regards
to strategy, I stated that proposal writers should first make sure they are a good fit for the grant.
Secondly, I suggested the proposal be planned out by a team to make sure no topics are missed as

To tackle this, it undertook the following steps:
1. In order to gain more market share, Kellogg's decided to launch two highly successful brands
internationally–Chocos in 1996 and Frosties in 1997 in India. Both of the brands were very
successful and sales picked up significantly. It also started providing its offering in retail packs of
different sizes. This enabled the company to cater the needs of different individuals.
2. Leveraging on the success of Chocos that the company decided to expand the brand by foraying
in to the cereal biscuit area with the launch of Chocos Cereal Biscuits. Kellogg's started
concentrating on establishing its brand name in the market irrespective of the off take. The focus
was entirely on being present and visible on the retail shelves with a wide range of products.
3. Kellogg's are realized that in order to sell more they had to adopt the local flavor and hence this
led to the total Indianization of its flavors in future. This resulted in the launch of the "Mazza" line
of products in August, 1998 in three local flavors Mango Elaichi, Coconut Kesar and Rose after one
year extensive research to study consumer patterns in India. These lines were however discontinued

higher educational level and make more money than our nation's average adult. Our target market
described is the one intended by most all nutritious and healthy breakfast cereals. As with the case of
these cereals, Heart to Heart will target those individuals who are, above all, conscious about their
health. We are fortunate that we have found a niche in the market by developing the first cereal that
is not only nutritious and healthy but also promotes heart health. This should expand our target
market to include those who are especially mindful of having a healthy heart.
V. SWOT ANALYSIS

Introduction
Will Keith (W.K.) Kellogg was born April 7, 1860. In 1876 W.K. and his brother Dr John Harvey
Kellogg, accidentally discovered the process of creating flaked cereal while experimenting with
shredded wheat cereal. While experimenting with different ways to cook and crush wheat to make it
more palatable without losing its goodness, they inadvertently ran a ... Show more content on

The production lines in competitive companies could cause Kellogg's to reduce prices, increase
capital, marketing or other expenditures, or lose category share, any of which could have a
materialistic harmful effect on their business and financial results. Category share and growth could
also be adversely impacted if Kellogg's are not successful in introducing new products.
Agricultural produce, including corn, wheat, soybean oil, sugar and cocoa, are the principal raw
materials used in Kellogg's products. Carton board, corrugated, and plastic are the principal
packaging materials used by the company. The cost of such products may fluctuate widely due to
government policy and regulation, weather conditions, climate change or other unforeseen
circumstances. To the extent that any of the previous factors mentioned, affect the prices of such
products and Kellogg's have been unable to increase their prices or sufficiently hedge against such
changes in prices in a manner that offsets such changes. The results of Kellogg's operations could be
materially and adversely affected. In addition, Kellogg's use derivatives to guard themselves against
price risk associated with forecasted purchases of raw materials.
The cost of fuel may fluctuate widely due to economic and political conditions, government policy
and regulation, war, or other unforeseen circumstances which could have a material adverse effect
on their consolidated operating results or financial

Cereal At The Store Study

  • 1. Cereal At The Store Study Dr Douglas Ross Harry Payne 4/14/2015 Cereal at the Store Study Introduction Breakfast cereal is a commonly eaten food in the United States. According to the website CEEREAL of the European breakfast cereal Association, the first ever cereal was granola which was invented by James Caleb Jackson in 1863 who was the operator of the Jackson Sanitarian in the state of New York (Ceereal). It would not catch on due to the long prep time needed to make the cereal edible. In 1889 two brothers W.K. Kellogg, and his brother, Dr. John Harvey Kellogg, what accidentally create arguably the first commercially successful breakfast cereal(Kellogg 's.com). W.K. Kellogg would use Kellogg 's Corn Flakes as the flagship brand, for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I would observe the way the customers would buy there cereal as well, such is the customers had kids or by observing there basket was there a possibility that health consciousness may be an issue. I would start Friday night at Kroger at Brewers Yard, which is a large Kroger store that also feature a liqueur store and a bistro. The demographics is very diverse due to it central location and the surrounding neighborhoods. This store can cater to traditional working class urbanites to the affluent suburbanite who works downtown and stop at this location to buy groceries before going home. Given this diverse clientele I concluded this store would be a good store to observe. When I enter the store the first thing I did was walk towards the cereal Aisle which is in the middle of the store. Once I was in the cereal aisle, I would notice that besides cereal the also contained other breakfast foods such as Pop Tarts, breakfast bars, and oatmeal. The aisle also contained products to make other breakfast food such as an egg poacher and a breakfast sandwich maker. Finally I would observe that the area also was where the Tea and hot chocolate is located which usually complement breakfast. I would next focus on the Cereal Aisle I would first discover how the cereal was arranged. At this location the cereal was arranged according to brands. One section of the aisle was dedicated to Kellogg products such as raisin brand ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Kellogg's History : Kellogg Brand Kellogg's history Kellogg is a company that has been around for over 100 years. William Kellogg and his brother Dr, John Harvey, started the company in 1868. In 1898 they were able to create the first flake created from toasted maize and in 1902 they were able to create a cereal with a longer shelf life. The company started out really small, they only accepted orders through mail and they sold primarily to people they were affiliated with. They eventually came up with the idea to brand themselves and they posted ads in newspapers and on billboards; this was the time that people started to recognize them as competition; in 1900 more than forty cereal companies were in competition with the Kellogg brand. John Harvey had a really big idea in mind when coming up with the Kellogg brand. Mr. Harvey was not a strong business man in fact he did not care about the business aspect at all, but instead he focused on a way to reform the way Americans ate, he came up with a way to make the cereal rich in nutrients. On the other hand his brother, W.K Kellogg, was completely focused on the business aspect. This led him to found the Battle Creek Toasted Cornflake Company in 1906; at this time he also purchased the rights to the cornflake. The difference between the two brothers is what most would have thought made the company work so well. The two partners eventually had a falling out over the name of the company and W.K took John Harvey to court where he won the law suit to be able to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comparing Kellogg's Version Of Great Value Shredded Wheat a) While I stopped at my local Wal–Mart to pick up a few things I did notice that one of the items my children did like was the Kellogg's Frosted Mini Wheat's cereal, and as I looked a little down the isle I saw Wal–Mart's Version called Great Value Shredded Wheat. As I took a closer look, for the first time in a while I noticed the similarities in terms how the picture was positioned on both boxes. How the look was different yet similar in an odd way. The Wal–Mart version was indeed presented as a version of the same cereal offered by Kellogg's, but at a lower cost for those cost conscious consumers. They were placed in similar fashion further down the isle, but not to much further. It had its own sections of Great Value cereal products that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Kellogg's Diversity Report Executive Summary The Kellogg Company, though older than most companies, has been making progress toward changing workforce attitudes surrounding diversity since about 2005. • 11. Kellogg Company 's Annual Report Project Introduction I chose Kellogg Company for my annual report project because I like to work with a company that I familiar with. In other words, I like to do a project on a company that carries products my family uses. I tried to order an annual report from a few companies such as Apple, Pepsi, Toyota, and Kellogg. However, I have not received any physical annual report copy from any other company yet. I was lucky that the Kellogg Company shipped me its physical annual report. Most other companies just provided me with their online annual report. If I chose a different company, I would need to print out an annual report online that contains many pages. It was easier to have a hard copy of the annual report so that I could look for information and make notes, so I can go back to it if I needed to. Because the Kellogg Company carries many kinds of cereals that my kids like to eat as well as having an annual report printed out, doing the annual report project on the Kellogg Company was the best choice. While remaining a superior global food company, Kellogg's management realized that they had to have the strongest possible resources to support their business growth in a diverse and competitive environment (Kellogg, 2009). Likewise, Starbucks is managing its competition challenges; the current economic conditions are factors that Starbucks needs to consider in order to market the new products to preserve its clientele and bring in new customers. Hence, Starbucks is wise to use the four P's model; Price, Product, Place, and Promotion, to determine the course of action best suited to stay ahead of the competition. To be clear, both Kellogg and Starbucks are managing the effects of postmodernity; that is, "postmodertnity describes our time and situation–today's world in flux, with people on the move who have learned to manage multiple identities depending on place and context" (Kottak & Kozaitis, 2003, Ch. p. 29). To manage the influence of postmodernity within the context of demographic factors, Kellogg and Starbucks are implementing strategic approaches to aid them in their success involving global and cultural diversity. • 51. Kellogg's Failure Essay Introduction This project report talks about the reasons for the failure of Kellogg's in India and what strategies it can take up in future to build itself as a brand in India. Kellogg's created a new category of branded breakfast cereal products throughout the world. Over the longer period of time, it has successfully been able to change eating habits of consumers and has converted various nations as corn flakes eating nations. After capturing over 40% US's ready–to–eat market in breakfast cereals alone, Kelloggs introduced its flagship products into Indian markets in 1994. India at that time has over 950 million inhabitants, 250 of whom were middle class. The Indians found the notion of having cereal as a breakfast a new one as consumers ... Premium pricing policy The competitive brands in the market were selling the similar product at 1/3rd price of Kellogg's and hence Kellogg failed to attract price conscious Indian households. Even after losing its market share, Kellogg's failed to understand the nuance of Indian market. 4. Wrong promotion Kellogg in its initial advertisements questioned the nutrition quotient of Indian breakfast and suggested that Indian food was not very good for health. This deeply offended the emotions of Indian ladies who had been serving traditional breakfast for ages to their families. 5. Inadequate market research Kellogg's executives overestimated the target segment of Indian market. They came with the figure of 950 million people as if everyone eats breakfast in Indian, everyone who eats breakfast would potentially want to eat corn flakes. What Kellogg didn't know, as Homi Bhabha, director of Harvard's Faculty of Arts and Sciences' Humanities center stated at the time, "was that Indians, rather like the Chinese, think that to start the day with something cold, like cold milk on your cereal, is a shock to the system. You start it with warm milk." Thus kellogg failed to provide the product that catered to Indian ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
