1. Pitch
Title:Infected
Synopsis:The opening title sequence I will be producing will be centered around
the theme of a zombie apocalypse set in a school. The finished film will tell the
story of how the school children became infected and the struggles the teachers
and authority face in trying to control the infection. I have given the film a 15
rating and so will aim the cinematography and references in the movie to mid-
teens to young adults. It will also appeal to teens as the actors in the film are of
similar ages to them.
Opening sequence: The opening shows a single female teacher as she tries to
escape a mob of infected school children. It sets the scene of the school and
introduces the audience to the infected children. The camera will follow the
teacher and children through the schools corridors and yards in a futile attempt
of an escape. However, the audience does not see the overall outcome of the
chase but it is strongly suggested that the teacher is caught.
Composition: The shots will always be fast passed and full of action. Most of the
shots will be handheld so careful attention will be kept to make sure the
audience can actually see the action going on and not just a mess of blurs
Conventions: To keep within the horror film conventions I will use camerawork
that is imperative to making a good horror film. For example, during the opening
scene cross cuts between the chasers and the person being chased. Also,
handheld cameras will be used to show the fear and disorientation of the teacher
whilst being chased. Appropriate costume and make-up will be used such as
white face-paint to show the decaying flesh of the zombies. Throughout the film
the narrative will fit with the
conventions of a horror film. In this cased it is a zombie apocalypse with the
remaining population fearing being caught and the overall annihilation of the
human race.
Enigma: The mystery created at the start of the film is how did the children in the
school become infected, why are they chasing after the teachers and how did the
two groups get into that situation. All of these enigmas from the intro will be
addressed in the rest of the film. However, the answers to the questions will not
be as straightforward as the audience first assume from other zombie
apocalypse films.
Funding/Distribution: I will be creating this film using an independent
production company who will partially fund the creation and developing of the
film. The rest of the funding will come from sponsors and associations with other
production companies. These days quite a lot of horror films are made using
independent film companies. The finished film will then have a staggered release
to judge the audience reaction and to see if the film should then be rolled out to
international cinemas. The production company will have their own branch from
marketing and advertising which will help with the distribution of the film.
