In the movie Bend it Like Beckham, Jess Bhamra, the main protagonist, is an 18–year–old Indian girl whose families religion is Sikh. Based on her
family's strict religious beliefs they do not accept her decision to play soccer because they believe a woman should not be playing a such a masculine

homosexuality, however, the film fails to elaborate on the issue of the acceptance of homosexuality.Viewers are able to see the negative
connotations attached to homosexuality within the film. The film portrays one of Jess' male friends, Tony, as an individual who experiences
society's homophobic ideologies. Tony must keep his sexuality a secret as a result of these ideologies. The fallacy in the film's progressive
intentions is Tony's sexuality never being elaborated on, where promotion of his sexuality would build credibility on the film's progressiveness claim.
Tony's homosexuality is introduced to viewers, but acceptance of his sexuality is not suggested as morally right. The film conveys a passive attitude
towards addressing the norms associated with homosexuality and how it directly relates to contemporary society. Tony is given a minor role in
relation to Jess, which undermines his autonomy as a homosexual. If the film promoted Tony's gayness, then the claim of the movie being progressive
would be reinforced because, given the time period of the early 2000s, this would suggest the movie is ahead of it's time; homosexuality was

guy. Cooking is the second important thing shown in this film. According to feminist philosopher Uma Narayan, cooking is especially emblematic of

Recently, I watched the 2002 film 'Bend it like Beckham'. The director, Gurinder Chadra, teaches the viewers many life lessons to learn along the
way. Today, I will be be analysing three life lessons that Grinder added to the film. These will be "Being true to ourselves", "The importance of
family", and "Following our dreams". The first lesson, "Being true to ourselves", was shown through to the movie through Jess and Jules. Jess,
always wanted to be a soccer star. Even from at the very beginning Jess has dreamed of this. Others may have told her to stop, as it is a unrealistic
dream, according to them. They believe that Jess should find a husband, and settle down. However, Jess believes that she, has the skills and

The technique used in this scene were full shot and mid shot also parents were
standing up and jess sitting down which made the parents look more powerful and made
jess look helpless, in this scene the director showed the viewer that jess was forced to

Jess, in Bend It Like Beckham, has a goal, to play soccer professionally, that she wanted to accomplished. Jess pursued her dream throughout most of
the movie. Of course, it would have been a generic movie if it was not for the fact that Jess was in an identity crisis situation on how to deal with her
Indian culture and her gender since she "[has] to fight against traditional roles conferred on young women" (Chacko 84). With the help of some friends
and family members, she managed to overcome all the obstacle that she encountered. The person that bended and changed Jess world was Jules. If

The first time Jules's mother meets Jess she is surprised that she plays football with her religion. Plus she is surprised that her name is Jess in till she
finds out her real name is Jesminder.
