The video for Kings of Leon's "Supersoaker" uses bright lighting and saturated colors like turquoise blue and orange to create a nostalgic retro style evoking the 1950s and 1960s. Costumes feature women in period attire and the band in a more informal rock style. Shots include both wide shots of the full band and close-ups of faces and props like milkshakes to give the video a personal feel that satisfies fans while also sexualizing the women.

NARRATIVE AND STYLE
This is a 'performance' style music video which portrays 60's style
diner scenes, close ups of attractive woman in retro attire also then
cut with segments of the band performing. The video has bright blue
filtering overlayed to further communicate to the audience
the 'Nostalgic' vibe.

LIGHTING AND COLOUR
Lighting in the video is very bright,
illuminating the screen at every
point, giving it a 'bright' tone which
matches the upbeat song itself. In
the editing phase it is clear the
saturation has also been amplified
which makes gives an even
'brighter' appearance.
Colour in this video is very key
to help play into the retro
theme and nostalgic vibe. The
filtering overlayed on top of the
video is bright turquoise blue,
which may be associated with
50's fashion, and gives a
'vintage-ness' to the outcome
of the piece. This is also
countered with shots of bright
orange which is an opposing,
very warm colour creating a
sense of contrast which is
appealing for the eye and
exiting.

COSTUME AND PROPS
Costume is used in 'Supersoaker'
to amplify the 50's/60's theme as
the women featured are dressed in
retro attire. The band are
somewhat also conforming to this
retro look, wearing leather and
denim jackets but in a more
'informal' manner as one member
just wears a simple t-shirt. This
type of understated look is not only
timeless ands fitting with the
theme but represents them as a
'laidback, rock' band.

SHOT TYPES
There are a mix of wide and close range shots as there are
moments where the camera reveals multiple members of the
band then cut with close ups of band members. There are also
close up shots of the women's faces and mouth one she chews
gum and another drinks from a milkshake. The close up shots
give the video a more 'personal' feel especially with the band,
satisfying fans wants. As well as this the shots also work to
emphasise how attractive the women are (it could be argued the
type of camera angles used, work to sexualise the women).

INTERTEXTUALITY
Clear 50's and 60's Nostalgia which is emphasised by the
combination of props, costume, colour and editing.
In my own piece I wish to draw inspiration from this as I want to
also create a 'Nostalgic, retro-style' piece, incorporating choices
in costume. props and editing to do so.
