American Football Absolute Strengths
INTRODUCTION
The increase in the field of strength and conditioning knowledge has transitioned American Football
into a game in which success is dependent on speed and explosiveness. "Running speed over short
distances would appear fundamental to success in a number of field and court sports" (2). Coaches
spend large quantities of time assessing players and their athletic qualities that underlie playing
ability. Strength qualities athletes are highly variable, and are the determinant of their acceleration
capabilities. Acceleration demands high force production in a short time period. There is a strong
relationship between strength and running speed, resulting in a high level of interest to identify
performance factors for different strength ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The differing results are likely because of differences in skill level among test subjects, methods of
evaluation, and erratic sprint distances. The main strength qualities being explored in this data
analysis are: absolute strength, relative strength, high–load speed strength, and low–load speed
strength. Every sport requires several combinations of these strength qualities to be successful (13).
Absolute strength is the measurement of how much force a subject can exert with no regard to body
size (3). Relative strength is the measurement of strength to body size. High–load speed strength is
the ability for the muscle to exert a high amount of force while contracting at a high speed. The tests
to gauge high–load speed strength are typically short in nature, executed at maximal speeds, and
produce high power outputs, and include exercises such as the power clean, snatch, and push jerk
(1). Triple extension of the hips, knees, and ankles during these movements allows the athletes to
express force against the ground rapidly. Low–load speed strength involves low velocity
movements, and is a quality that "reflects the dynamic abilities necessary for sport. They are the
maximal strength tests of choice for strength and conditioning professionals"

The Dangers Of American Football
Is football too dangerous to be played the way it currently is?
Maybe football shouldn't be played at all. The latest findings show that 81 to 91 percent of deceased
National Football League players had signs of chronic traumatic encephalopathy. Alternatively,
others think football should be made safer to reduce some of its violence.
American Football dates back all the way from the late 1800s. The sport of American football itself
was relatively new in 1892. It started from two sports, soccer and rugby, which was enjoyed around
the world. On November 6, 1869, Rutgers and Princeton played what was billed as the first college
football game. However, it wasn't until the 1880s that a great rugby player from Yale, Walter Camp,
pioneered rules changes that slowly transformed rugby into the new game of American Football.
Since then the game has become very dangerous. Many former National Football League players
believe that their NFL experiences will cost them years off their lives, according to a recent Times
survey. There is no observed data to confirm their claims; there is medical evidence and opinion
suggesting that the players may be right. Players contend that the violent nature of the game lends
itself to shortened life spans.
Concussions, also known as traumatic brain injuries, occur when your brain is violently impacted
inside of your skull. Concussions are sadly common for college athletes and professionals and
college ball. Concussions make up 7.4 percent of all

American Football : Concussion And The Game Of Sports
American football is a dangerous sport and the sport itself is a gladiator style which causes
concussions. Sometimes when watching the game of football and while playing the game of football
it seemed like the only objective of the game was to just hit the person on the other team with the
ball as hard as possible. The sport itself has stayed the same with a couple of rule changes, but at the
core it is still the violent physical game that it has always been. The difference from now to back
when the game of football was created other than the requirement of shoulder, hips, knees, and
tailbone pads, and helmets are that we finally have the knowledge of what is going happen to
athletes bodies when they play the game of football. Football is a dangerous sport and the risk
people are taking to play a simple game are not worth the side effects of what people will have to
deal with for the rest of their lives and possibly even lose their lives because of playing football.
A concussion is a type of traumatic brain injury caused by a blow to the head or body falling down.
In a sense any injury that shakes the brain around. Surrounded by spinal fluid your brain is a soft
organ and protected by your dense skull. Now if your head or your body is hit too, severally your
brain can crash into your skull and be injured. The movie Concussion, an American biographical
sports film directed and written by Peter Landesmen based on the book Brain Game by Jeanne
Marie Laskas. The film star in

Knute Rockne's Life And Influence On Football And American...
As a child, Knute Rockne had it pretty rough. He was actually born in Voss, Norway March 4, 1888.
His parents names were not given. For college football, there have been, and will be, many
inspirational players and coaches, but probably the most influential coach would be Knute Rockne.
Then when he was five years old he immigrated to the United States. He lived in Chicago where he
first started playing football in the sandlots of Logan Square neighborhood. In high school, he was
an all–star in football and in track as a pole vaulter, and rather small for his age. He cut classes to
practice track; although, a gifted student Knute ended up quitting high school in 1905. For four
years, he worked at the Chicago Post Office until accumulated enough money for college. At the age
of twenty–two, Rockne enrolled for the University of Notre Dame. His life began at Notre Dame.
University life was difficult for Rockne. He worked as a janitor at the chemistry department to have
extra money. Once, he started playing football, fullback and left tight end, Knute left track and field.
Consequently, he decided to base his sports solely on track and field; especially since he set a school
record in pole vault. After setting this record, Rockne decided to give football another try. In 1913,
playing tight end, he emerged as team captain. As a senior, he led the team to their third undefeated
season. The very same year the Golden Domers, (the nickname refers to the gilded statue at the top

American Football Concussions
For decades, American Football has captivated this nation as one of the prime sources of
entertainment. With the culmination point, the Super Bowl, attracting more viewership than any
other televised event in the country, the sport has seen a tremendous growth since its origination in
1920. In an era of economic struggle, job shortage, and high–cost of living, those with above
average physical abilities can find the lure of professional football to be extremely attractive. With
the wealth and fame attached to a professional career, many of our youths share the common dream
of achieving football star status. In order to attempt this lofty goal, many kids enroll in this contact
sport at an early age, often times with the support of their parents. ... Show more content on

Players of the modernized Nation Football League are tremendously bigger, faster, and stronger than
they once were. Taken from the Current Events of the Weekly Reader Corporation, the article "Hit
Men" explains, "one reason concussions are becoming more severe and frequent in the NFL is that
the average size of the players is increasing." The physical expectation set by the NFL constantly
pushes these athletes to achieve their most preeminent physical state. Although this "survival of the
fittest" notion may sound encouraging, the result is seen in the amount of concussion numbers
increasing over the years. However, this necessity to greater themselves can be seen on both sides of
the argument. Jeb Golinkin, the author of "Why Parents Should Let Their Kids Play Dangerous
Sports" acknowledges how "between the lines, our children learn the importance of teamwork,
sportsmanship, toughness, and competitiveness"(11). The qualities attained through contact sports
are essential in order to make it in todays working world, not to mention how valuable they are in
managing interpersonal relationships. With that being said the argument could be made that these
life skills could be learned elsewhere. Sports like baseball and volleyball both offer the opportunity
to learn these qualities and many other skills, without the same risks football imposes on its players.
Overall, although football

American Football Touchdowns
In American Football, the key is to score the most points. I am just going to tell you how to exactly
do that. There are five different ways to score in American Football. There are various ways to score
these points on each side of the ball. The most common ways in scoring result in either a touchdown
or a field goal. However, there are a few other ways to score in the game of football.
Touchdowns are the most common scoring drives in football. A touchdown is when an offensive
player carrying the ball crosses the line of the opponents end zone resulting in a six–point scoring
drive down field. Touchdowns can be scored from each side of the ball. It is more common to have a
touchdown on the offensive side of the ball rather than the defensive

A Brief Summary Of American Football
Grade Deagan Ruminski Wish what you want!!! There was a boy named Odell Manning that lived
in Steamboat Springs, Colorado that had a dreamed to be a professional football player. But, Odell
does not have any athletic ability to do anything, but he did not give up on his dreams. Although
everybody in his grade makes fun of him because he cannot do anything and also because of his
dreams. One day, Odell decides to go to the National Football League (NFL) Headquarters (HQ) in
New York to go talk to the commissioner Roger Goodell about wanting to play in the NFL. When
Odell gets to the NFL HQ he walks in and asks "Do you know where Roger Goodell is on this fine
evening." As the lady replied Odell saw in the corner of his eye he saw Roger and walked straight to
him. Odell asked Roger if he could join the NFL. Roger said "I will give you a shot." When Odell
got ready Roger was asking him some question about Odell. Odell got ready to run a 50–meter dash
and it took him almost 45 seconds to run 50 meters. Roger was shocked. Odell came up to Roger
and said "How did I do." Roger kicked him out like he was kicking a football through a field ...

When he took off, he fell asleep right away. When he landed he was so scared because he did not
know where he was. But, finally, he realized that he was in New York. Odell took a cab to the NFL
HQ where he was going to get another shot at being a professional football player. When he met
Roger again, he was really excited to try again. When Odell did the jump Roger immediately

Personal Narrative: American Football
Approximately 2 years ago, in the fall semester of 7th grade year, I was in the football team. It was
my first time experiencing and encountering American football, but I got fond of it. It happens to be
started by a friend named Chris, introduced and persuaded me into American football, who already
experienced in the football team for few years. First I felt scared to play such a treacherous sport but
my brother Michael, who was already active in football, asked me to play football also. Because
many of my friends and people around me play football, I decided to give it a shot and later the
coach was able to give me a position in the game. My position wasn't fancy or much noticeable in
the game compared to other positions such as the quarterback or running back. Even though I was ...

I could say that football was the best way of getting rid of my stress in school and other personal
stresses than any other ways. It also made a stable relationship with my friends in school not
verbally but physically from football. When I got closer to the students in school, some friends of
mine informed and demonstrated me ways to defend and rush in many different styles. Due to
learning many different styles of defending and rushing, I was able to recognize naturally what kind
of movement should made by all positions in order to make a successful play like in baseball when
the catcher gives the signal to the pitcher. Even though we weren't the champions at the state's level
or the best players in the school history, the importance was that my team and I have enjoyed and
ardented playing football. I learned that football is a sport; you have to try your best and never give
up with your team, even in hard trainings and number of loses of games. Personally, I would express
football as a fight against 2 castles of an country, the defensive line is the wall of the castle that is
defending and offensive line is also a wall but it is full of army of soldiers who is trying break

Friday Practices In American Football
Friday practices were always the worst to Curt, it was the fact that he was so close to going home
for the weekend after school but he still had football practice to look forward to. This practice had
been exhausting for the quarterback, almost constant running and senseless drilling had made the
team's morale go down beyond the level it was meant to be at. When Curt saw Libby, the day got a
little bit better. He had liked her a lot Junior year, she was genuinely a good girlfriend, attractive,
social, and popular, his status had gotten a huge boost after dating her, it was the mutual benefit
between them that had kept them together in the long run. But when she admitted openly to blowing

Evolution Of American Football
Football is a sport, because in 1800s football grew out of English. American football grew out of
English sports such as rugby and soccer and became popular in American college campuses in the
late 1800s. In 1876, a coach named Walter Camp, who is considered the "Father of American
football", helped produce the first rules of American football. Among important changes were the
introduction of line scrimmages and down–and–distance rules. The American professional football
association was formed in 1920; two years later it changed its name to the National football league
(NFL), which would ultimately become the major league of American football. The most watched

Differences Between Canadian Football And American Football
American vs. Canadian Football
American and Canadian football have many differences but are also very alike. They have the same
roots of play because they are of course both football. The reason they have some differences are
that they are played in different countries. American and Canadian football have a few different
concepts that make them different from each other. The first difference is the field goals. The field
goals are placed in the front side of each endzone as American football has the goal posts in the
back side. The endzones are also ten yards deeper in Canada than in America. Not just the size of
the endzones are different but the whole field in general is different. A Canadian football field is 110
yards long and 65 yards wide. An American field is 100 yards long and 53 yards wide which is
much smaller than a Canadian field. The stadiums in Canada are also much smaller due to less
funding and not having as many fans as American football. American football also has different
teams and team colors which make the stadiums look nothing alike (What). ... Show more content

The Influence Of Football On American Culture
Since the introduction of organized team sports into American culture, numerous sports have
stepped into the limelight for certain periods of time but none have stuck around as long as football
has. Just as with everything else in life, football has had it's fair share of drawbacks since its
invention in the mid–19th century. Despite the drawbacks and criticism football has faced, its role
and influence on American culture between the 1890's and 1930's far outweigh the negative aspects
of its past. In order to truly appreciate the overall beneficial influence football has had on American
culture between the 1890's and 1930's, we cannot turn a blind eye to the negative obstacles football
has overcome. In the early years of development, football was played similarly to rugby and
universities played by different rules, making standardization within the sport a difficult task to
accomplish. One of the major problems observed during the infancy of football was the sheer
violence witnessed on the field. Mass play was the common play style during the first years of
football in which the entire offensive force would focus on one spot of the defense; the offense was
determined to go through the defense rather than go around them. The raw power behind these plays
lead to serious injuries as well as the death of a player in the early 1900's. This disastrous event
deterred numerous universities from playing football out of fear of a repeat of events. Following
more serious injuries

College Football : The Father Of American Football
American football resulted from several major divergences from association football and rugby
football, most notably the rule changes instituted by Walter Camp, a Yale University and Hopkins
School graduate, considered the "Father of American Football". Among these important changes
were the introduction of the line of scrimmage, of down–and–distance rules and of the legalization
of blocking. The popularity of college football grew as it became the dominant version of the sport
in the United States for the first half of the 20th century. Bowl games, a college football tradition,
attracted a national audience for college teams. Boosted by fierce rivalries and colorful traditions,
college football still holds widespread appeal in the United States. The origin of professional
football can be traced back to 1892, with William Heffelfinger's five–hundred dollar contract to play
in a game for the Allegheny Athletic Association against the Pittsburgh Athletic Club. In 1920 the
American Professional Football Association was formed. This league changed its name to the

American football. Primarily a sport of Midwestern industrial towns in the United States,

American football vs European football (soccer)
On November 1869, Princeton and Rutgers played the first intercollegiate football game in New
Brunswick, New Jersey, using a soccer–style game with rules adapted from the London Football
Association(Michael Oriard 2017). American football is a combination of two English sport, rugby,

football is only popular in the United States. American Football and soccer have various differences
such as protections gears, the shape of the ball, the way they score points, number of leagues. The
comparison between American Football and soccer reveals that soccer is easier to understand and
safer than American Football. Firstly, Soccer and American Football differ in rates of injuries.
American Football is one of the most dangerous sports in America. This sport is very physical and
violent and requires physical and mental strength, according to a study football players had the
highest injury rate, with 4.36 injuries per 1,000 athlete exposures. Concussions are one of the most

The Effects Of Concussions On American Football
Concussions have been known about since the early 1900s. During this time concussions did not
receive the attention that it receives now. In mainstream media today concussions are a growing
issue, not only in professional sports but also at high school and college levels. It is believed that Dr.
Bennet Omalu was the first person to come up with a study and show that concussions are very
dangerous and the great effects it has. His focus was mainly towards American football but it was
helpful to others who did not play football as well. Dr. Bennet Ifeakandu Omalu is a forensic
pathologist who was the first to publish findings of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) in
American football players while working at the Allegheny County Coroner 's Office in Pittsburgh.
Chronic traumatic encephalopathy is a progressive degenerative disease of the brain found in people
with a history of repetitive brain trauma, including symptomatic concussions as well as sub
concussive hits to the head that do not cause symptoms (Boston University, 2015). CTE has been
known to affect boxers since the 1920's (when it was termed punch drunk syndrome or dementia
pugilistic). However, in recent years the disease has been found in other athletes, including football
and hockey players, as well as in military veterans (Boston University, 2015). CTE is not limited to
professional athletes; it has also been found in athletes who did not play sports after high school or
college. The repeated brain trauma

This very well may be the reason but to understand culturalism as a whole you must first look at the
aspects that make up culturalism. Hegemonic sport culture is one of these contributing factors. The
idea that there is a dominant (hegemonic) existing sports culture in the areas that the NFL wishes to
expand too is one that is entirely true. It is not much different from the issues faced in America by
soccer. A hegemonic culture and be defined as "one who dominates a countries emotional
attachments" (Markovitz and Hellerman, 2001, pg10). Having an emotional attachment to a sport
creates and instant connection that pulls you into the sport. People want to play the sports that are
seen as a pastime, the sports they grew up playing and watching with their dads and older brothers.
This immediate desire to play something viewed as familiar is what creates this hegemonic sports
culture. This new culture also is resistant to change. An emotional attachment to the national sports

American football vs European football (soccer)
On November 1869, Princeton and Rutgers played the first intercollegiate football game in New

Association (Michael Oriard 2017). American football is a combination of two English sport, rugby,

Firstly, Injuries is a very common thing in both sports, but American Football has a very high rate of
injuries compared to soccer. American Football is violent sports that require physical and mental
strength, according to a study ("Epidemiology of Athletic Injuries"), Football players had the
highest injury rate, with 4.36 injuries per 1,000 athlete exposures (Injuries Among High School,

Personal Narrative: A Day In American Football
Beep beep beep! I turn off the Love/Hate machine we call an alarm clock. I put on my away colored
football jersey; I get a little ball of excitement and eagerness bouncing around in my body. I run up
stairs to get ready for school as I smell the aroma of bacon wafting in the area. I walked out my
front door as the cool fall morning air hits my body. I open the wet car door handle to get into my
car; I plop on the chilly leather seats, plug the aux cord into my phone and turn on some rap to set
the day's mode. I leave the driveway zooming out with my subwoofers rattling my cars. It's Friday
morning, and that means tonight is Friday morning and that means a long day until Friday night

American Football, the History and Timeline of How the Sport was Developed Into the Modern–
Day Sport America Knows and Loves
American Football has been one of the most popular spectator sports, however it hasn't always been
this way. On November 6th, 1869 the first game, that was intercollege, was played that incorporated
the basic rules of the American football that we all know and love today. Players from Rutgers and
Princeton played a game against each other and only one team was victorious in claiming the
victory. It was Rutgers that had come in first in that game and would then continue to hold good
standings in modern–day rankings. Walter Camp, without any plausible doubt, was and still is one
of the most influential figures regarding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Mike Vrabel's Influence On American Football
"Tom!", "Mike!", "Tedy!" Squashed in a crowd of hundreds of people, being prodded forward by
my mom, I was overwhelmed by the noise, the air of excitement, everyone hoping for the same
thing, an autograph from a Patriots player. I held out my football and hoped someone would grab it
and sign it. One player grabbed it, but I didn't know who because I was anxiously looking at the
ground. Mike Vrabel, the huge linebacker, realized the instant he saw me that I was shy and
nervous. He got my attention, looked me in the eye and said, "Can you say, Mr. Vrabel, will you
please sign my ball?"He was trying to help me get over my fear and ask for a signature. I wished
that it was that easy. This was not the first time someone tried to get me to be outgoing.

Physics Of Tackling The American Football
Brandon Hergott
The Physics of Tackling in American Football The game that America has come to know and love
may have more behind it than everyday viewers and fans realize. Physics fuels every aspect of the
game of football and is evident in the collisions that take place on every play. Watching a game of
football can be a great learning tool to anyone interested in better understanding the laws of physics.
Many great examples are provided on every snap. Mass, force, momentum, velocity and torque all
play significant roles in the tackling action performed by players and the better you understand these
terms the better you can begin to understand the game itself. Most of what football players and
coaches know about tackling is more instinctive than anything. They understand more about the
physics of the process more than they realize. Acceleration, force, mass, momentum, Inertia, torque,
velocity, and center of mass are important terms that become relevant when discussing the physics
of tackling in football. Acceleration is the rate of change of velocity in a certain period of time.
Force in football can be described as the influence on a body that causes it to accelerate. The amount
of substance an object is made up of is the mass. Momentum comes as the result of the product of
the mass of a moving object and its velocity. Inertia is the resistance of a moving object to a change
in speed or direction, and also the resistance of a stationary object to being moved. Torque

Comparison Of American Football And Rugby
Rugby and American football are two sports I really enjoy watching. You have the game of intense
play with a complex strategy to score a touchdown and preventing the opponent from scoring. In
addition you have another game that is very similar, making fast transition like in soccer trying to
also score while preventing the opponent from scoring. When I watch Rugby and American football
on television some of my friends ask me what are the similarities and difference from American
football and Rugby? Football and Rugby have the same theme of physical play and score points.
However, the two physical sports do have their differences. American football and rugby manages

Both sports main objective is to score more points than their opponent. In American football you
can score points by carrying the ball beyond the opponent's touchdown. Also, in football you can
score by kicking the football between the goal post for 3 points known as a field goal. In football a
touchdown is worth 6 points and then you receive a chance to attempt for to kick the ball between
the goal post for 1 point known as an "extra point". In American football, a field goal and extra point
are two different things. An extra point is worth 1 point while a field goal is worth 3. On the other
hand, in Rugby's you have to carry the ball and place the ball down on the opponents touch line.
This is known as a "try". Rugby also allows kicks to be played for opportunities to score by kicking
the ball between the goal post for 2 points. In Rugby, a"try" is worth 4 points. With this being said,
American football it is more likely to put more points on the score board than in Rugby. Another
difference between the two sports is the number of players on the field. For example, in football you
need eleven players and in rugby you need thirteen players. The nature of their roles is different. In
rugby any player can perform the role of attacking and defending whenever there is a need.
However, in football all eleven players have very specific roles on the field to which they have to
follow. For example, an offensive lineman can't tackle a defensive player. Also, the way the ball
moves around the field is different for the two sports. In football, the players can only pass the ball
in a direct forward manner. On the other hand, rugby allows the players to keep passing the ball in
other directions namely, backwards and

Compare And Contrast Football And American Football
For people from other countries American sports may be confusing. In America the sport we call
Soccer is actually called football in other countries. Because of this, in other countries our game of
football is called American football or gridiron football. So it's like having two different sports with
the same original name.
In reality both sports are quite similar. Soccer is a sport played between two teams of eleven players
with a spherical ball. American football is a sport played by two teams of eleven players on a
rectangular field with goalposts at each end. The similarities are that both sports are played by two
competitive teams, there are eleven players on each team, and both games involve kicking a ball

American Football Should Not Be Abolished
American Football, Should Not Be Abolished The essay American Football is too Dangerous, and
Should be Abolished by Dave Bry discusses his opinion on why he thinks American Football should
be ended. The author believes that football is immoral. By immoral, he writes that the fans enjoy
watching the players play violently. The author also states that the players put their lives at risk
because they are given a large compensation or "let–your–parents–retire–and–set–up–the–next–
generation–of–your–family–to–go–college–money" (Dave Bry). Overall, the author writes, football
is immoral and it should be ended. However, I disagree with the authors point of view. Football is
one of America's favorite sports. It originated from soccer and rugby. This kind of sport is very
competitive. The main point of the game is to score points by carrying the ball from a starting point
to a 100–yard long by 53–yard wide field into a marked zone. Each team has a Y–shaped structured
called the field goal the players. The game is divided into timing sections ranging from 12 to 15
minutes quarters. Often times, the players become violent during the game. This happens when they
have to tackle each other for the ball. During this tackling period, players injured, but like anything
in life it possesses risks known to the athletes before signing a contract with the NFL's (National
Football League) owner. The football players are aware of the risks involve with the sport and make

Concussions In American Football
Youth athletes experiencing concussions is a very serious matter. When an adolescent first
experiences a concussion, they may seem dazed and confused. The adolescent may show signs of
dizziness and have trouble recalling basic information. If after a blow to the head an athlete displays
these signs, they should stop playing immediately and be taken out of the competition (Khabie 1).
But just how prevalent in youth football are concussions? Some claim that most players experience
head trauma that will leave a lasting negative effect on the athlete's brain. Others believe that
concussions in youth football are very rare and most of the time have no long term effects on the
athlete. Many would say that even if there is risk of injury, football provides many positive
opportunities that kids should not pass up on due to fear. The sport of American Football provides
challenges, comradery, essential skills, and fun that outweighs potential injury risk for youth who
participate in the sport and should be offered to those who choose to play the sport at a young age.
Challenges that football provides for young people help them grow both intellectually and
emotionally. The saying,"what doesn't kill you makes you stronger," is certainly applicable to the
sport of football. Many times during a practice of rigorous conditioning, players feel as if they
cannot make it through the rest of practice. Players are not sure how they make it through the
practices because they are so physically

The Impact Of American Football And Its Impact On Players
American Football and its Impact on Players Football, or as it is known in Canada the Gridiron, is
considered an American passion. With the advent of the television, the sport has become the premier
event; although, in comparison to other sports, like soccer and basketball it has less recreational
participants. Nonetheless, football is part of the American culture and is the primary pass time
during holiday and homecoming celebrations. Indeed, no other world sport possesses such parabolic
baggage as does the sport. An aggressive, inflexible hierarchical, and one–gendered sport it is still
appreciated by its supporters and detractors alike. However, with all the attention being placed on
the fans of the game, sometimes it is easy to forget the impact it has on the players of the game.
Consequently, this paper will highlight the impact of the sport on its players. It will do this by
examining three fronts: the physical impact, psychological impact, and financial impact. Physical
Impact The biggest concern for the game at the moment is the increasing player head injuries. The
violent nature of the game makes it a certainty that a player will be involved in multiple collisions,
sometimes with their heads. The severity of these head collisions varies depending on a player's
position, size, among other factors. There is a growing concern about the risk concussions may have
on the player. Concussions lead to stretching and injury of brain cells which may lead to adverse
effects

American Football is a very expensive sport due to the amount of gear you must wear and their
expenses. To play American Football you need a Helmet to protect your head against concussion,
Shoulder and Chest pad protector, upper leg padding and mouth guard. According to a research, the
University of Nebraska spends $1,000 on average to equip each football player for a game. (Cork
Gaines 2012). All those protections do not prevent injuries. Conversely, in soccer, you only need
shin guard to protect your shin. The expenses of the gears and the equipment can be the reason why
American football is only played in united states. Duration in sports activities may result in an
uninteresting game or enjoyable to watch. The third difference between soccer and Football is the
time limit. American football has in total of 60 minutes, with 4 quarters and each quarter is 15
minutes, after the second quarter the referee announce a long break, the game is not constant like
soccer, basket or hockey, On the other hand, soccer has 90 minutes in total, with a break after the
first half and both half long 45 minutes, at the end the referee adds an additional time for the time
lost. The fourth difference between soccer and American football are the popularity and the number
of fans. Unfortunately, American football has only 400 million fans because it is only played and

Sport's are an aspect of life that affect societies across the globe. Athletics affect everyone's life,
whether that be playing the sport, watching games, or hearing about a sporting event. There is a big
difference between playing an individual sport and players relying on their own athletic abilities
versus a team sport when members of the team rely on their teammates to complete each
individual's specific responsibility to reach the team's goal. Team sports bring people together in

Attackers are the players with the most stick skills on the team. Their responsibility is to use their
skills to maneuver around the defenders of the opposing team. Defenders, the players with the most
brute strength, are responsible for stopping the ball and getting the ball back to their midfielders.
Rugby is a less commonly known and played sport that helped originate football. William Webb
Ellis originated the sport of rugby in the early 1900's. Ellis was a student at Rugby School in
England when he created the game, which is how its name originated. The way Ellis invented this
game was when he broke soccer rules and made his own new game (The origin of rugby). The sport
of rugby is similar to football because of the rules that are implemented and the way special teams
are used on the field. One major difference between the two sports is that football is continuously
throwing forward; in contrast, rugby requires that the ball must be thrown backward or laterally.
Moreover, positions in this sport are very different than football. These positions consist of forwards
and backers in the offensive scheme. The forwards are the bigger and stronger styled players that
block for the backers, similar to the offensive line in football. Backers are the fast, small players that
usually handle the ball the most and run with it. In rugby, they fall in the same lines of the running
back or quarterback in the sport of football. Although rugby has many similarities to

American Football Absolute Strengths

  • 1. American Football Absolute Strengths INTRODUCTION The increase in the field of strength and conditioning knowledge has transitioned American Football into a game in which success is dependent on speed and explosiveness. "Running speed over short distances would appear fundamental to success in a number of field and court sports" (2). Coaches spend large quantities of time assessing players and their athletic qualities that underlie playing ability. Strength qualities athletes are highly variable, and are the determinant of their acceleration capabilities. Acceleration demands high force production in a short time period. There is a strong relationship between strength and running speed, resulting in a high level of interest to identify performance factors for different strength ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The differing results are likely because of differences in skill level among test subjects, methods of evaluation, and erratic sprint distances. The main strength qualities being explored in this data analysis are: absolute strength, relative strength, high–load speed strength, and low–load speed strength. Every sport requires several combinations of these strength qualities to be successful (13). Absolute strength is the measurement of how much force a subject can exert with no regard to body size (3). Relative strength is the measurement of strength to body size. High–load speed strength is the ability for the muscle to exert a high amount of force while contracting at a high speed. The tests to gauge high–load speed strength are typically short in nature, executed at maximal speeds, and produce high power outputs, and include exercises such as the power clean, snatch, and push jerk (1). Triple extension of the hips, knees, and ankles during these movements allows the athletes to express force against the ground rapidly. Low–load speed strength involves low velocity movements, and is a quality that "reflects the dynamic abilities necessary for sport. They are the maximal strength tests of choice for strength and conditioning professionals" ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. The Dangers Of American Football Is football too dangerous to be played the way it currently is? Maybe football shouldn't be played at all. The latest findings show that 81 to 91 percent of deceased National Football League players had signs of chronic traumatic encephalopathy. Alternatively, others think football should be made safer to reduce some of its violence. American Football dates back all the way from the late 1800s. The sport of American football itself was relatively new in 1892. It started from two sports, soccer and rugby, which was enjoyed around the world. On November 6, 1869, Rutgers and Princeton played what was billed as the first college football game. However, it wasn't until the 1880s that a great rugby player from Yale, Walter Camp, pioneered rules changes that slowly transformed rugby into the new game of American Football. Since then the game has become very dangerous. Many former National Football League players believe that their NFL experiences will cost them years off their lives, according to a recent Times survey. There is no observed data to confirm their claims; there is medical evidence and opinion suggesting that the players may be right. Players contend that the violent nature of the game lends itself to shortened life spans. Concussions, also known as traumatic brain injuries, occur when your brain is violently impacted inside of your skull. Concussions are sadly common for college athletes and professionals and college ball. Concussions make up 7.4 percent of all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. American Football : Concussion And The Game Of Sports American football is a dangerous sport and the sport itself is a gladiator style which causes concussions. Sometimes when watching the game of football and while playing the game of football it seemed like the only objective of the game was to just hit the person on the other team with the ball as hard as possible. The sport itself has stayed the same with a couple of rule changes, but at the core it is still the violent physical game that it has always been. The difference from now to back when the game of football was created other than the requirement of shoulder, hips, knees, and tailbone pads, and helmets are that we finally have the knowledge of what is going happen to athletes bodies when they play the game of football. Football is a dangerous sport and the risk people are taking to play a simple game are not worth the side effects of what people will have to deal with for the rest of their lives and possibly even lose their lives because of playing football. A concussion is a type of traumatic brain injury caused by a blow to the head or body falling down. In a sense any injury that shakes the brain around. Surrounded by spinal fluid your brain is a soft organ and protected by your dense skull. Now if your head or your body is hit too, severally your brain can crash into your skull and be injured. The movie Concussion, an American biographical sports film directed and written by Peter Landesmen based on the book Brain Game by Jeanne Marie Laskas. The film star in ... • 4. Knute Rockne's Life And Influence On Football And American... As a child, Knute Rockne had it pretty rough. He was actually born in Voss, Norway March 4, 1888. His parents names were not given. For college football, there have been, and will be, many inspirational players and coaches, but probably the most influential coach would be Knute Rockne. Then when he was five years old he immigrated to the United States. He lived in Chicago where he first started playing football in the sandlots of Logan Square neighborhood. In high school, he was an all–star in football and in track as a pole vaulter, and rather small for his age. He cut classes to practice track; although, a gifted student Knute ended up quitting high school in 1905. For four years, he worked at the Chicago Post Office until accumulated enough money for college. At the age of twenty–two, Rockne enrolled for the University of Notre Dame. His life began at Notre Dame. University life was difficult for Rockne. He worked as a janitor at the chemistry department to have extra money. Once, he started playing football, fullback and left tight end, Knute left track and field. Consequently, he decided to base his sports solely on track and field; especially since he set a school record in pole vault. After setting this record, Rockne decided to give football another try. In 1913, playing tight end, he emerged as team captain. As a senior, he led the team to their third undefeated season. • 5. American Football Concussions For decades, American Football has captivated this nation as one of the prime sources of entertainment. With the culmination point, the Super Bowl, attracting more viewership than any other televised event in the country, the sport has seen a tremendous growth since its origination in 1920. In an era of economic struggle, job shortage, and high–cost of living, those with above average physical abilities can find the lure of professional football to be extremely attractive. With the wealth and fame attached to a professional career, many of our youths share the common dream of achieving football star status. In order to attempt this lofty goal, many kids enroll in this contact sport at an early age, often times with the support of their parents. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Players of the modernized Nation Football League are tremendously bigger, faster, and stronger than they once were. Taken from the Current Events of the Weekly Reader Corporation, the article "Hit Men" explains, "one reason concussions are becoming more severe and frequent in the NFL is that the average size of the players is increasing." The physical expectation set by the NFL constantly pushes these athletes to achieve their most preeminent physical state. Although this "survival of the fittest" notion may sound encouraging, the result is seen in the amount of concussion numbers increasing over the years. However, this necessity to greater themselves can be seen on both sides of the argument. Jeb Golinkin, the author of "Why Parents Should Let Their Kids Play Dangerous Sports" acknowledges how "between the lines, our children learn the importance of teamwork, sportsmanship, toughness, and competitiveness"(11). The qualities attained through contact sports are essential in order to make it in todays working world, not to mention how valuable they are in managing interpersonal relationships. With that being said the argument could be made that these life skills could be learned elsewhere. Sports like baseball and volleyball both offer the opportunity to learn these qualities and many other skills, without the same risks football imposes on its players. Overall, although football ... • 6. American Football Touchdowns In American Football, the key is to score the most points. I am just going to tell you how to exactly do that. There are five different ways to score in American Football. There are various ways to score these points on each side of the ball. The most common ways in scoring result in either a touchdown or a field goal. However, there are a few other ways to score in the game of football. Touchdowns are the most common scoring drives in football. A touchdown is when an offensive player carrying the ball crosses the line of the opponents end zone resulting in a six–point scoring drive down field. • 8. Personal Narrative: American Football Approximately 2 years ago, in the fall semester of 7th grade year, I was in the football team. It was my first time experiencing and encountering American football, but I got fond of it. It happens to be started by a friend named Chris, introduced and persuaded me into American football, who already experienced in the football team for few years. First I felt scared to play such a treacherous sport but my brother Michael, who was already active in football, asked me to play football also. Because many of my friends and people around me play football, I decided to give it a shot and later the coach was able to give me a position in the game. I could say that football was the best way of getting rid of my stress in school and other personal stresses than any other ways. It also made a stable relationship with my friends in school not verbally but physically from football. When I got closer to the students in school, some friends of mine informed and demonstrated me ways to defend and rush in many different styles. Due to learning many different styles of defending and rushing, I was able to recognize naturally what kind of movement should made by all positions in order to make a successful play like in baseball when the catcher gives the signal to the pitcher. Even though we weren't the champions at the state's level or the best players in the school history, the importance was that my team and I have enjoyed and ardented playing football. I learned that football is a sport; you have to try your best and never give up with your team, even in hard trainings and number of loses of games. They have the same roots of play because they are of course both football. The reason they have some differences are that they are played in different countries. American and Canadian football have a few different concepts that make them different from each other. The first difference is the field goals. The field goals are placed in the front side of each endzone as American football has the goal posts in the back side. The endzones are also ten yards deeper in Canada than in America. Not just the size of the endzones are different but the whole field in general is different. A Canadian football field is 110 yards long and 65 yards wide. An American field is 100 yards long and 53 yards wide which is much smaller than a Canadian field. • 16. The Influence Of Football On American Culture Since the introduction of organized team sports into American culture, numerous sports have stepped into the limelight for certain periods of time but none have stuck around as long as football has. Just as with everything else in life, football has had it's fair share of drawbacks since its invention in the mid–19th century. Despite the drawbacks and criticism football has faced, its role and influence on American culture between the 1890's and 1930's far outweigh the negative aspects of its past. In order to truly appreciate the overall beneficial influence football has had on American culture between the 1890's and 1930's, we cannot turn a blind eye to the negative obstacles football has overcome. In the early years of development, football was played similarly to rugby and universities played by different rules, making standardization within the sport a difficult task to accomplish. One of the major problems observed during the infancy of football was the sheer violence witnessed on the field. Mass play was the common play style during the first years of football in which the entire offensive force would focus on one spot of the defense; the offense was determined to go through the defense rather than go around them. The raw power behind these plays lead to serious injuries as well as the death of a player in the early 1900's. This disastrous event deterred numerous universities from playing football out of fear of a repeat of events. Following more serious injuries ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A man named Chuck Hughes, to date, is the only NFL football player to die on the field. • 18. Violence In American Football Maybe football shouldn't be played at all. The latest findings show that 81 to 91 percent of deceased National Football League players had signs of chronic traumatic encephalopathy. Alternatively, others think football should be made safer to reduce some of its violence. American Football goes back to the late 1800s. The game of American football itself was moderately new in 1892. It began from two games, soccer and rugby, which was delighted around the globe. On November 6, 1869, Rutgers and Princeton played what was charged as the principal school football game. In any case, it wasn't until the 1880s that an incredible rugby player from Yale, Walter Camp, spearheaded decides changes that gradually changed rugby into the new session of American Football. From that point forward the amusement has turned out to be exceptionally risky. American football is a game that can be severe, and it regularly feels like the main target is to hit the individual with the ball as hard as would be prudent. As football proceeds through the fall, an ever increasing number of individuals tune in every year to watch their most loved group to perform well, or not in the least. Numerous previous National Football League (NFL) players trust that their NFL encounters will cost them years off their lives, as indicated by a current Times study. • 19. College Football : The Father Of American Football American football resulted from several major divergences from association football and rugby football, most notably the rule changes instituted by Walter Camp, a Yale University and Hopkins School graduate, considered the "Father of American Football". Among these important changes were the introduction of the line of scrimmage, of down–and–distance rules and of the legalization of blocking. The popularity of college football grew as it became the dominant version of the sport in the United States for the first half of the 20th century. Bowl games, a college football tradition, attracted a national audience for college teams. Boosted by fierce rivalries and colorful traditions, college football still holds widespread appeal in the United States. The origin of professional football can be traced back to 1892, with William Heffelfinger's five–hundred dollar contract to play in a game for the Allegheny Athletic Association against the Pittsburgh Athletic Club. In 1920 the American Professional Football Association was formed. This league changed its name to the National Football League (NFL) two years later, and eventually became the major league of American football. Primarily a sport of Midwestern industrial towns in the United States, professional football eventually became a national phenomenon. • 21. The Effects Of Concussions On American Football Concussions have been known about since the early 1900s. During this time concussions did not receive the attention that it receives now. In mainstream media today concussions are a growing issue, not only in professional sports but also at high school and college levels. It is believed that Dr. Bennet Omalu was the first person to come up with a study and show that concussions are very dangerous and the great effects it has. His focus was mainly towards American football but it was helpful to others who did not play football as well. Dr. Bennet Ifeakandu Omalu is a forensic pathologist who was the first to publish findings of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) in American football players while working at the Allegheny County Coroner 's Office in Pittsburgh. Chronic traumatic encephalopathy is a progressive degenerative disease of the brain found in people with a history of repetitive brain trauma, including symptomatic concussions as well as sub concussive hits to the head that do not cause symptoms (Boston University, 2015). CTE has been known to affect boxers since the 1920's (when it was termed punch drunk syndrome or dementia pugilistic). However, in recent years the disease has been found in other athletes, including football and hockey players, as well as in military veterans (Boston University, 2015). Hegemonic sport culture is one of these contributing factors. The idea that there is a dominant (hegemonic) existing sports culture in the areas that the NFL wishes to expand too is one that is entirely true. It is not much different from the issues faced in America by soccer. A hegemonic culture and be defined as "one who dominates a countries emotional attachments" (Markovitz and Hellerman, 2001, pg10). Having an emotional attachment to a sport creates and instant connection that pulls you into the sport. People want to play the sports that are seen as a pastime, the sports they grew up playing and watching with their dads and older brothers. This immediate desire to play something viewed as familiar is what creates this hegemonic sports culture. This new culture also is resistant to change. • 27. Physics Of Tackling The American Football Brandon Hergott The Physics of Tackling in American Football The game that America has come to know and love may have more behind it than everyday viewers and fans realize. Physics fuels every aspect of the game of football and is evident in the collisions that take place on every play. Watching a game of football can be a great learning tool to anyone interested in better understanding the laws of physics. Many great examples are provided on every snap. Mass, force, momentum, velocity and torque all play significant roles in the tackling action performed by players and the better you understand these terms the better you can begin to understand the game itself. Most of what football players and coaches know about tackling is more instinctive than anything. They understand more about the physics of the process more than they realize. Acceleration, force, mass, momentum, Inertia, torque, velocity, and center of mass are important terms that become relevant when discussing the physics of tackling in football. Acceleration is the rate of change of velocity in a certain period of time. Force in football can be described as the influence on a body that causes it to accelerate. The amount of substance an object is made up of is the mass. Momentum comes as the result of the product of the mass of a moving object and its velocity. Inertia is the resistance of a moving object to a change in speed or direction, and also the resistance of a stationary object to being moved. Torque ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Both sports main objective is to score more points than their opponent. In American football you can score points by carrying the ball beyond the opponent's touchdown. Also, in football you can score by kicking the football between the goal post for 3 points known as a field goal. In football a touchdown is worth 6 points and then you receive a chance to attempt for to kick the ball between the goal post for 1 point known as an "extra point". In American football, a field goal and extra point are two different things. An extra point is worth 1 point while a field goal is worth 3. On the other hand, in Rugby's you have to carry the ball and place the ball down on the opponents touch line. This is known as a "try". Rugby also allows kicks to be played for opportunities to score by kicking the ball between the goal post for 2 points. In Rugby, a"try" is worth 4 points. With this being said, American football it is more likely to put more points on the score board than in Rugby. Another difference between the two sports is the number of players on the field.
