FamilyFIRST is a text messaging system developed by Anthony Papillion to address domestic violence. It allows victims to silently report domestic violence incidents via SMS for secure, private reporting. The system was created for a local domestic violence agency and has since received over 25,000 reports. Papillion discusses how SMS can help victims by providing a safer alternative to phone calls, and how FamilyFIRST fits within the domestic violence community by giving agencies another service option and reducing their workload. Future plans include releasing the open source software for other agencies to use and partnering for international deployments and new feature development.
