1. Actor’s costume
My genre is alternative and typically the artist is not over sexualized and doesn’t follow the male gaze theory (Laura
Mulvey) where you see the artist through the eyes of a heterosexual male. The clothes I have picked aren’t revealing
and don’t show off the artist, this is a convention of my genre of alternative. All the items of clothing is black with the
exception of a few whites and reds, I wanted this as I feel it fits in well with my song and genre of the song and also
relates back to the previous comment where I don’t want her to standout too much.
The clothes are casual and they are not dressy something that you may see in the genre of
‘pop’ music however I feel it fits well with my genre as when I did my research into alternative
music videos I saw the pattern of common clothing that aren’t impressive however something
a fan of alternative may look at and be inspired so I wanted to apply this to my own music
video

2. My inspirations for my costumes
In my research of music videos and when I
focused into alternative it was clear that the
convention of this genre in clothing is dark
and casual. These music videos and bands is
where I got my inspiration for the costumes
for my music video and I felt it was important
that I followed this convention so it’s obvious
what genre my song is to the audience
