(8 Quarter courses in each of the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12 grade
years)
2. Students must earn a C or better for a course to count towards
the total grade level minimum.

Where are you going…what is your goal…graduation is a celebrated milestone. It is important to strive for this goal, but it is not THE ULTIMATE goal…we are preparing our students to be lifelong learners…we want them to be prepared for their post secondary experience…we beat the national average for the number of our students that earn their degree within 6 years of high school graduation….that is one important measure of our success….our legacy of learning and achievement we can leave with our students…

The economic impact of art and design exceeds that of sports worldwide

The future belongs to a very different kind of person with a very different kind of mind- creators and empathizers, pattern recognizers and meaning makers. Love to mow, I can start the mower, change the filter, change the oil, add gas, and complete the lawn even with some special lines…but can I explain how an internal combustion engine works…we hope to get students to this point at EVHS…more than going thru the motions…more than simply walking the hallways and socializing for 696 school days…we want students to have a goal to understand the internal combustion engine…(metaphorically speaking)

Student information is updated in Naviance weekly by District Technology Support. Main student information database is Infinite Campus.
Students are more excited to get to high school than their parents.
Parents are more nervous, anxious, overwhelmed with all the information, etc. than students.
Our Advanced Placement Psychology students have been doing some research in preparation for their AP Exam in May.
They believe they have devised an identifier to help folks understand when they are under undu anxiety, overly nervous, overwhelmed with a particular event in their lives. I have heard from lots of folks about how they are unsure about all the information available to them about this important transition and all the choices and decisions that need to be made…
It is a picture of 2 identical dolphins and they asked me to do a case study tonight…and when shown to individuals feeling this way they may say some differences….if you see differences.
Look at both dolphins jumping out of the water. The dolphins are identical. Our students believe that in spite of the fact that the dolphins are identical, a person anxious or overwhelmed person would find differences in the two dolphins. If the subject found many differences between the dolphins, it meant that the person was experiencing a great amount of stress.
So…if you see any differences…you are in the right place tonight. We will have you seeing 2 dolphins by 7:30!
students excited and engaged about learning!
It is OK to work on a math or chemistry problem for more than 20 seconds.
EVHS will provide a lot of support for students to get where they want to be….we survey our seniors and 93% t say go on to 4 and 2 year post secondary opportunities.
Caring and engaged staff…coaches, teachers, clerical staff, food service…very important (lunch and breakfast served at EVHS)…our custodians…we have 1 custodian that is very engaged…knows most of our students…attends all the games he can and even funds a couple scholarships for students after high school….students services….with our staff of licensed school counselor to help with social emotional and mental health issues for our students in additional to a developmental academic and college planning program.
We refer to this as the productive struggle…it will not always be easy…we work to create that appropriate level of challenge with support for students…challenge is the only way we can improve than it our business.
It takes time…it may seem tedious, it will become more and more important down the road in the future…
If you have a chance to visit NYC you should stop by Liberty Island and take a Helicopter tour over the Statue of Liberty in NY Harbor.
Lady Liberty is built from a steel frame covered with copper and it stands 305 feet in the air (a football field is 330 feet long)
If you look down on her head you will notice that every strand of hair has painstakingly formed in careful and minute detail, just as is every other area of her gown and body
This hairdo required many additional weeks of work for Frederic Auguste Bartholdi in his shop in Paris, France.
You see the Statue of Liberty was presented to President Cleveland October 28, 1886
Wilbur and Orville Wright did not fly their first plane until 17 years later at Kitty Hawk December 17, 1903
Bartholdi knew full well a few brave sea gulls would be the only ones to see the meticulously shaped and polished strands of hair
Yet he took no SHORTCUTS
NEVER NEGLECT THE LITTLE THINGS

9- 9th Grade Teams and 12-10th Grade Teams (3x3 or 2x2), 10th grade 2x2s
Cocurricular programs….100s of opportunities
High expectations…in an April 2008 survey parents and students alike stated that we had high expectations for our students and that working hard will help them do well in school….this is evident in our hallways, in our classrooms in our cocurriculuar programs and it shows in the results of these programs
Assessments are like Fox News (fair and balanced) formative (evaluative) and summative (comprehensive)…daily work assignment…labs…projects…presentations….tests….
