1. Watching filmof all genres has been my passion for the many years and I've been
creating animation since my first year of college. Both are subjects I am deeply interested in
and want to follow further in higher education.
In high school I studied Media Studies at GCSE which introduced a lot of conventions of
different types of media and a basic understanding of camera angles and the planning process
of films. It taught me how to analyze films and gave me a good understanding of audience
classifications and how films appeal to the audience. The skills I developed I was able to apply
to my own work in the more practical based course I am doing currently. I also studied Art,
allowing me to develop my drawing and painting skills, which has helped in terms of animation
work.
I am currently studying an Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production where I have been
able to expand my knowledge of the media through practical application. I learnt a lot of
techniques I can apply to my future work including experience with clay and pixel based digital
animation . I have also worked on many projects which employ filmic techniques such as the
music video which gave me experience using a Canon DSLR camera. I have also gained
experience throughout my course with the Adobe Creative Suite, specifically employing
Photoshop, Premiere Pre, Audition, After Effect, and InDesign.
My course also requires me to conduct written and theory-based work. I am currently writing
an essay, using the Harvard referencing system, exploring how memory is conveyed and treated
in films such as Wild Strawberries and Bladerunner.
I am hoping to work in the filmindustry and specialise in animation.
I have been working with a local band to produce content for their performances, producing
light shows or heavily edited video clips. My desire is to work my way up in the filmindustry to
become an editor or a cinematographer. Going to university will allow me to improve my skills
and build a portfolio to allow me to achieve a job in animation.
Outside of college I have been learning how to make original music using Cubase
and I'm learning to play guitar which I am hoping to incorporate into my projects at college. I
also work on editing images in photoshop and I have made a few album covers for local bands. I
am currently learning how to use recording software OBS studio. Outside of college I use the
animation software Adobe Animate and Photoshop to produce 2D animations, Hue Animation
Studio for clay animation and Mandelbulb 3D for making 3D Mandelbrot zooms. I am currently
undertaking self-guided learning to learn how to use Blender so that I can gain experience with
a 3D animation software. I have also been experimenting with light liquid show animation
recently to expand my practical knowledge into more experimental imagery.
In conclusion I think going to your university will allow me to develop my skills in either
animation or film so that I am able create productions to a higher quality. I think I will be a good
candidate because I have a passion and interest in the subject as well as the ability and drive to
work independently and teach myself techniques and software that broaden my skill set.
