2. Research technologies...
With in making my short film and ancillary tasks I used
-Blogger, I used this to present my research, short film and ancillary tasks using blogger for the
past two years, I have learnt further skills on this piece of technology in this year. I have
recently learnt that I have been able to expand the size of the blog page and design it to the
readers needs therefore increasing the likability of my blog. Using the blog was very useful
because it is a simple but very affective way of presenting my work. With in my blog I used
Hyperlinks to show other helpful pages, with in my blog doing this helps illustrate my points
which I am making. I hyperlinked to other websites which were useful to my research such as
the BFI online page also KettCreativeMedia, these internet pages were very helpful to me
helping me to choose and Identify my target audience. These websites allowed me to gain
knowledge of what I did not know.
-I used email within my time researching my short film to email between possible actors which
I would like to include with in my short film. Along site social networking sites such as
facebook and twitter, communicating with possible actors was made much more simple for
me to achieve.
-I used vimeo to show my 1st draft because from with in school we are restricted away from
other video sharing websites such as Youtube.
3. Planning Technologies...
-Within my creating my short film and ancillary tasks, I used slide share to present my animatic
(which I used an IMovie section to create) because it is an open website and enables everyone
to see my work and hopefully help them with in the planning of their short film I learnt how to
do an animatic in year 12 whilst doing my story board for my OTS film noir, whilst creating my
story board for my short film I had learnt to use different styles of animatic to elaborate my
ideas. I improved from last year with the planning of my short film because last year although I
done more pictures in my storyboard I did not know the direction I wanted my OTS to go but
with my short film I had specific ideas of what I wanted to happen and how it was to happen,
knowing this within myself I was happy with the direction that my short film went in. I think I
was able to improve because I believe that I was not having to consult a partner and I was able
to do what ever I wanted to go in the direction which I believed is the direction the short film
should go. Learning to use vimeo enabled me to get consumer feedback and allowed me to
see what people though of my idea (http://vimeo.com/57601904 ) I used slideshare to show
and upload my magazine article drafts. Throughout my project I improved at finding out how
to do certain things such as using online websites such as Gmail, twitter and also text to allow
me to communicate to the outside world, actors, help and also to guide me along my project. I
improved my communication between myself and others. I planned to use a tape camera but
just before going out to film my short film I opted for a SD card HD camera because the
quality I believed would be better as long as I had the correct setting and lighting.
4. Equipment...
-Camera using the camera since last year using a tape camera I am very happy with my
progress with using camera, last year I used very simple basic camera angles. Which I had a
very minimal number of. This year I tried to keep camera angle clips to a maximum of 10
seconds using mid, short, long, Arial, low, character shots, using as many as I could to show of
my knowledge of the angles which can be used with in film to get an idea of the feeling of the
film. Using more camera angles allow for a more professional look to the short film.
-Using computers with in my project, enabled me to work from home, allowing me to have
freedom to create my ancillary products, therefore being able to get feedback from family and
friends. Learning to use computers to their potential has been a big part of this year. Learning
how to use photoshop on a Pc has been a big help to create my posters, learning these skills
and developing them. Although on a PC you cannot use IMovie I believe that a PC is better for
the other tasks because they are simple to use and all the software you would need is on them
at the school allowing for easy access.
-The Apple Macs were the main part of our short film with out these I would not have been
able to complete my short film, learning to do more experienced exercises using the macs with
software such as Handbrake and IMovie, these pieces of software are the only reason we were
able to do our short films, I have developed my learning using these pieces of software by trial
and error also with a short tutorial from the media technician Hamish Edmonson.
-This year I learnt to use a SD card reader which allowed me to easily transfer my short film
from camera to Mac. This allowed me to be able to quickly and easily using handbrake to
convert them to a better quality to edit them with.
5. Equipment...
-I used the mirantz to collect sound for my first idea of my short film but for my second and
final idea although learning this new technology was very good to learn although finding the
technology hard to get to grips with straight away but due to the nature of my film I had no
need or plans to use it.
-I chose to use Weebly for my evaluation because I wanted to try out a new technology which I
have never used before, I wanted to learn how to use, design and construct a online website.
Learning how to use this website has enabled me to learn about the best ways to show of your
work. On reflection, although I enjoyed using and learning to use Weebly I would use blogger
as my way of showing my evaluation because It is easier to lay my work out also with out
paying on my blog I can embed prezis, videos, audio and hyperlinks with ease.
