Cain Traditions
The lineages which proceeded from the lines of Seth and Cain became two societies with distinct
opposing qualities; Seth's line was faithful to God, Cain's was not; and in the end, the legacy of Cain
was destroyed in their sin. Adam's first two sons were named Cain and Abel (Genesis 4:1, 2).
Despite being raised in the same environment, Cain's character was vastly different from that of
Abel. When Abel's animal offering was accepted by God, and Cain's fruit offering was not, Cain
became jealous of Abel (Genesis 4:4–6). Cain then killed his brother out of spite, and turned away
from God (Genesis 4:8, 16). Adam and Eve were given another son, named Seth, to replace Abel
(Genesis 4:25). The lineage of Seth consisted of those who were faithful ... Show more content on

As the years progressed, the population of the earth began to grow exponentially, and the line of
Seth began to marry those in the line of Cain (Genesis 6:2). They were obviously influenced by
Cain's culture, since they committed bigamy in taking "wives of all which they chose" (Genesis
6:2). We see that "the earth was filled with violence," and by this we can infer that they inherited
this trait from Cain's line as well (Genesis 6:11). Because of the intermarriage of the ancestral lines,
the men on earth inherited great intelligence, being "giants" of mental power, and as the generations
continued, became "men of renown" just as Lamech's children (Genesis 6:4). God was "grieved"
that He had created man, and found it more merciful to destroy them than to allow the incredible sin
to continue (Genesis 6:6–7). But Noah "found grace in the eyes of the Lord," and we can see in
chapter 5 verses 3–32 that he was directly related to Seth (Genesis 6:9). His family was chosen by
God to be the line from which all generations would follow, and by this sparing Seth's lineage would
be kept pure (Genesis 6:18). In chapter 6 verse 13, God states that He will "destroy [the wicked]
with the earth." The Hebrew word for "with" here can be translated as "by", and by this we observe
that the earth was wicked "through them," and they will be destroyed by that which they corrupted

Frankenstein Chapter 6 Chapter Summaries
Genesis Chapter three is crucial chapter in scripture; through this chapter we have a tendency to or
able to answer the queries of life. Why is there evil in the world? Why do people die? Why is life
hard? Is there any hope? We have a tendency to learn the planet that we have a tendency to occupy,
wasn't the manner it was originally created. In our day and age our world may be a "fallen world"
that is separated from God its creator. This chapter helps explain these questions to us. In the third
chapter, the angelic world has its own fall. This fall within the angelic world, intersects the physical
world of the new created earth. On earth, Adam and Eve should be in fellowship with the Creator of
the Universe, walking with Him within the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fallen cherub angel is allowed to test Adam and Eve within the Garden of Eden. He begins by
asking about God's command; He then calls God a "Liar", and that the girl is to be "Like God".
Sadly Eve falls, then takes her husband Adam to conjointly hear the Serpent, indwelt by Devil. As a
result Adam and Eve, loose fellowship with God and dismissed from the Garden, beside the skins of
two animals that had died to hide their shame. Before they're dismissed, God spells out His set up of
redemption that in some unspecified time in the future through the "Seed" of the girl, the pinnacle of
the serpent would be done (Satan), even through the Serpent would wound the heel of the
approaching "Seed of the Woman", and then Satan would be devastated. Therefore, during this
chapter we have a tendency to see why man is fallen and therefore the starting of God's set up of

The Short Story Of Jealousy
Jealousy will without doubt affect everyone physically nonetheless it will also affect you mentally.
The phrase " family will always stab you in the back" never wants to cross your mind as true; but
for one set of brothers they took this saying literally. Your brother is supposed to be your best friend
not your killer. Throughout the short story it is displayed rather clearly with Cain and, Abel. The
actions of Cain and Abel it is communitiave that jealousy can provoke people to do unthinkable
things. When a family finally receives the biggest blessing of having a child their life becomes
complete. Although for Adam and Eve they prayed to the lord nightly for just one more son, they
already had a perfect child but that was just not enough. Lord brought Abel down to them. Cain and
Abel were brothers. Cain worked the soil as Abel worked with the animal. In Cain's head Abel had
gotten the better job of the two and that is instantly when jealousy arouse inside of him. Because
Abel got the "better" job it was important to ensure God had continued to be happy with him, Cain
brought the Lord some fresh fruit from the soil he had recently been working on and God barely
noticed. Abel then brought a fat portion from the animals he had recently been working with and
God looked with favor at him. This caused Cain to get the feeling a jealousy form in the pit of his
stomach. The events above display the rising action and it proves that all the hard work Cain put in

What Is Polygamy A Subculture
If you have never heard of polygamy you will and if you had in the past it was most likely due to the
hit reality series "Sister Wives" about a polygamist family in the state of Utah. Polygamy is defined
as the practice or condition of having more than one spouse at a time. Polygamy is nothing new and
has been practice for hundreds of years but it is now seen as an immoral act, and a criminal act in a
large majority of the of the world. Now even though polygamy is wide known in certain areas like
Africa (South Africa, Kenya), Asia (middle east), etc. Still there are rules that they must abide by
and it frowned on in an obese manner in areas like the United States, Australia, and China, because
as a society we see it as an unjust act that can not be upheld by any justification but it is permitted in
the bible. I support polygamy because I see no fault in the act of a family with multiple spouses. ...

There are not very many people that practice polygamy and those that don't practice polygamy do
not support it. Polygamist does not follows the norms in society nor do they practice traditional
marriage. Polygamy has been documented in the bible, but men like Abraham, or Jacob had two or
more wives. Often those that practice this form of marriage are often religious and believe that they

The Movie : Noah And The Bible Story
For my essay I will be analyzing the similarities and differences between the interpretations of Noah
the film: Noah (Paramount Pictures and Regency Enterprises, 2014) and the bible story. Writer–
director Darren Aronofsky, was brought up with a Jewish education and a deep fascination in the
story of Noah 's ark it took him over 15 years to get the film afloat. But with all biblical movies
there is always some type of controversy and unfortunately it even comes from people who have
never even seen the movie. The intended audience of the film is unclear, which I find a little weird
because I expected the audience to Christians and people of the Jewish faith who know the story of
Noah.
The beginning two and a the half minutes into the movie describes the beginning of the Book of
Genesis including creation, the original sin, the curse of Cain, and anything preceding Noah. The
movie continues with Noah as a child, on a hill with his father Lamech, who is about to give him an
important heirloom – the skin of the original serpent from Eden– which has been passed down. Then
suddenly, a large group of people led by a young king named Tubal–Cain, who wants to make that
land into a mine approaches Lamech. Seeing Noah's father, Tubal–Cain kills him and takes the
serpent 's skin, while Noah runs.
In the bible it doesn 't say anything about passing on a snake 's skin or even that Noah's father had
spoken to him. In the bible the story begins with the line of the descendents of Cain

Old Testament Patriarchs Research Paper
The term "Patriarchs" in the Old Testament makes a reference to two groups of men. The first group
is the twenty–men making up the ancestral lineage between Adam to Abraham. At the beginning of
this familial lineage there were ten men that lived before the flood who had extremely long lives and
were known as the Antediluvian Patriarchs, which consisted of Adam, Seth, Enos, Kenan,
Mahalalel, Jared, Enoch, Methuselah, Lamech and Noah. The second group known as the Patriarchs
of Judaism were the first three leaders of the Israelites that included Abraham, his son Isaac and his
grandson Jacob. This chapter along with its sub–chapters only concerns itself with Abraham, Isaac
and Jacob.

from God appears before the Pharaoh, punishes the Pharaoh, afterwards the Pharaoh releases Sarai
along with his daughter to be her hand–maiden as well as several servants, livestock, riches and
wealth, then allows Abram with Sarai to leave with their new servants and wealth. Saria, Abram's
wife, believes she is too old to have children and allows Abram, at 86 years of age, to father children
with Hagar, her hand–maiden. Hagar gives birth to Ishmael, Abram's first son and then Saria
becomes pregnant and gives birth to Isaac, who becomes the next Patriarch for the Israelite nation. A
few days later Abram circumcises Isaac and establishes another covenant with God and it is at this
time when Abram's name becomes Abraham and Sarai's name becomes Sarah.

Essay on Names in The Odyssey and The Bible
Importance of Names in The Odyssey and The Bible
Two of the most widely studied ancient works are Homer's Odyssey and the book of Genesis from
the Bible. Each of these texts provides a unique viewpoint of an early civilization. In both of the
texts, one can learn not only stories about great heroes, but also about the way that these peoples
lived and what they believed. Many interesting parallels can be drawn between the two developing
societies shown in the Odyssey and the book of Genesis. One parallel is the importance placed on
names by each culture. Although viewed as important in different ways, the value placed on a name
shows a striking similarity between the evolving cultures of both the Greeks and the Hebrews. ...

For example, when Athena, disguised as Mentês, introduces herself to Telemachus, she says, "My
name is Mentês; I am the son of a clever father, Anchialos". A name symbolized not only one's own
fame and honor, but also that of one's ancestry. If a man's family was particularly honorable or
dishonorable, it was instantly obvious because of the renown and history that stood behind his
name. The name was truly the most important possession of any man in early Grecian culture. This
is probably best evidenced by Odysseus' encounter with the cyclops, Polyphemos. In the beginning,
Odysseus merely tells Polyphemos that he is Noman, a man with no history or background, about
whom the cyclops does not know if he should fear or welcome, a man whom he could never find
again. After he has injured Polyphemos and is away from him, however, Odysseus tells his name,
saying, "...your blinder was Odysseus, the conqueror of Troy, the son of Laërtês, whose address is in
Ithaca!" It seems that Odysseus cannot stand the thought of this great victory not being added to the
history of his name, and, although it gets him in lots of trouble, thinks it much worse to do a great
deed unknown than to suffer the consequences of having it known. This example clearly
summarizes the higher and deeper purpose of a name in ancient Grecian culture, to be a witness for
the man himself and his character. In the Odyssey, Homer also uses the names

Noah, The Ark Builder
Noah, the ark–builder finds favor with God amidst destruction and evokes the trait of being loyal.
This trait represents Noah's character well because he put great trust in God and did whatever he
needed to do to save humanity and make sure that life for all living creatures were pleasant. Noah
listened to God and understood why God felt the way he did about the world, he also played a vital
role in the building of the ark that saved he, his family, and living creatures from the flood, and
lastly, abided by the covenant that God made with him. Because of Noah's obedience for God
throughout the flood and covenant, this paper will argue that the central character trait of Noah is
loyalty. Before understanding the way in which Noah is loyal, it is important to understand where
his actions are coming from. The name Lamech appears in both genealogies, the Cainite and Sethite.
In contrast to Cainite Lamech, Sethite Lamech is anticipating Noah's birth as a possible solution to
the problems that are brought about by sin. The verse in which Lamech names Noah (Gen 5:29) is
pivotal; it looks backs to the pronouncement of divine judgement while also looking forward to
Noah and his relationship with God. Adam's disobedience has sentenced humanity to hard labor and
pain from which there seems to be no relief. Lamech longs that his son may bring some comfort,
and he calls him Noah with this in mind. Lamech hoped that Noah would be able to work hand and
hand with God to restore what used

Genesis Chapter Summaries
The book of Genesis covers many topics. Creation is the theme of chapter one. In chapter two, God
says that His creation is good. He then creates man from the dust and women from the man. Next is
the Fall of Man, Eve is tempted by the serpent to eat of the tree God told them not to eat. Both, Eve
and Adam end up eating of the fruit from the tree resulting in the punishments from God for all of
mankind. Chapter four is about Cain and Abel. It also covers the first murder and first record of
bigamy. It gives some lineage of Cain and also tells of Eve's birth of Seth who replaced Abel.
Chapter five is about the generations of Adam. Adam lived to be 930 years old. Chapters six through
eight is about Noah building the Ark and the Flood. Chapter nine, God promises to never destroy the
Earth with a flood again. The lineage of Noah is recorded in chapter ten. The confusion of languages

The things that I learned were Lamech killed a man for wounding him and a boy for striking him,
the detailed lineage of Abraham, the fact that Jacob was buried in Canaan with Abraham, Jacob's
daughter was raped by Shechem, Adam lived to be 910 years old, Methuselah lived to be 969 years
old, Joseph only lived to be 110 years old, and Jacob and Esau met outside of Canaan when they
reunited after Jacob fled to Laban's house. I also learned that Genesis covers 2, 200 years. Enoch is
the first man not to die and he was the son of Cain. The first revival occurred at Bethel, something
else I did not know. I was reminded of the picture of Christ death that will be to come, and that God
gave this picture in the Garden of Eden when He killed an animal to clothed Adam and Eve. Seeing
God's forgiveness throughout Genesis just reminds me of His love for us. God also kept His promise
to Abraham that he would be the father of many

Difference Between The Oud And The Oud
The ancestor of the guitar, the oud, has not evolved into the guitar but only inspired its creation and
together became two popular instruments used in various parts of the world. The guitar is mostly
associated with western countries while the oud has been traditionally used in the Spanish and Arab
countries.
Classified as string instruments both the guitar and the oud have a few similarities. To be held and
played in the same way their physical appearance resembles one another in terms of shape, materials
and the use of strings to produce their acoustic sound. The wooden neck on both guitars allows one
to play by plucking the strings attached and transmitting the energy from the strings vibration into
the air producing sound.

an excavated cylindrical seal from the Uruk Period in Mesopotamia, which dates back almost 5000

Since then, the Oud has been revered as the 'King of Instruments,' telling the stories of its time

Essay on Noah and the Ark
Noah and the Ark
The story of Noah and the ark is probably one of the most read stories of the bible. Perhaps it is
because of the great tragedy it portrays, or because it is a story of salvation. Noah and his family
along with the animals were saved from the flood, while the other people and animals perished as a
result of it. Growing up the story of Noah and the ark was one of my favorites; Quite simply
because of the drawings depicting the story. They appeared so beautiful, when after many years I'm

God decided to wipe out mankind with a flood. In order to help repopulate the earth after the flood
was over, God called upon Noah. God told Noah to build himself an ark out of cypress wood, with
room inside. He told Noah to cover the ark, both inside and out with pitch to protect it from the
waters. God instructed Noah as to the size of the ark, and what it was to look like. "The ark is to be
450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet high. Make a roof for it and finish the ark within 18 inches
of the top. Put a door in the side of the ark and make lower, middle, and upper decks." (Genesis 6:
15–16) God also told Noah about the plan for the flood, and what he was to do with the ark. Noah,
his wife, his sons, and his sons wives would all be on the ark an spared from the destruction the
flood would cause. Along with his family, God wanted Noah to bring two of all living creatures, one
male, and one female. Brining a male and a female of each kind of creature would allow them to
reproduce and repopulate their species. The last thing God commanded Noah to do was to take
every kind of food that is to be eaten and stored for his family and the creatures. Noah and his
family entered the ark as God had commanded. After seven days, the waters of the flood were over
the earth. All the wellsprings of the great deep burst and the casements of the heavens were opened.

Genesis Compare And Contrast Essay
In this essay I will analyze and differentiate two completely contrasting legacies left behind by Cain
and Seth, the descendants of Adam and Eve. Reflecting on the point in time where Eve appointed
eponyms for her children, their very names conceptualized a foreshadowing of this apparent
contrast. In Hebrew, Cain means 'spear' and Seth means 'anointed' or 'granted' a name that alludes to
Eve's utterance found in Genesis 4:25, "God has granted me another child in the place of Abel since
Cain killed him". This sets the tone of the significant dissimilarity of their character later
distinguished in the narrative of Genesis. Cain was the primary exploitation for murder, and not only
the act of killing, but that of his beloved brother. (Genesis 4:11–16) And in the midst of his child
Enoch being born, Cain was developing the world's first advanced civilized society. (Genesis 4:17)
Contrasting, Seth was the third son of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A distinct factor between the sons of men and the sons of God. A distinct contrast between Cain's
legacy and Seth's legacy. Cain the nomad, Seth the settler. Cain the leader to destruction, Seth the
patriarch. Cain capitulating to carnality and Seth clinging onto spirituality. There are ultimately two
roads to take, two legacies to follow. God never intended to build a civilization and for us to get
comfortable in this world, yet He wanted to build legacies that would prepare us and to essentially
entwine humanity and God's heavenly Kingdom. Ultimately the choice lies within the individual.
The love and mercy that flows from the Creator is forever vacillating between the divine model and
apartness of being, and the tugging of heart and allowing of decision. To and fro there is a constant

Christianity And Religion In Beowulf And The Canterbury Tales
Throughout the Middle Ages, religion was a major theme in the literature of that time. Works such
as Beowulf and The Canterbury Tales are examples of this theme in action, but in very different
ways. God is seen purely as goodness in Beowulf, and everything that God approves of is good as
well. Contrarily, The Canterbury Tales satirizes religion by showing members of the church in a
negative manner and debating the teachings of the Bible, the latter particularly in "The Wife of
Bath's Prologue." Despite these different takes on Christianity, the characters in both stories sin, yet
are defended. Both Beowulf and "The Wife of Bath's Prologue" contain different defenses of the
protagonist's sin, to varying degrees of success.
Beowulf's sins revolve around personality traits, namely his boastfulness and greed, however the
author does not acknowledge this sin. First and foremost, it must be made clear that these sins truly
exist in Beowulf and are in opposition to Christian morals, regardless of whether or not the author
condemns them. Upon his arrival in Heorot, Beowulf's conversation with Unferth demonstrates how
his pride and boastfulness is integral to his reputation. Unferth asks, "Are you the Beowulf who took
on Breca / in a swimming match on the open sea, / risking the water just to prove that you could
win? / It was sheer vanity made you venture out / on the main deep," (Beowulf 506–510).

Essay on The Wife of Bath by Geoffery Chaucer
The Wife of Bath
The Wife of Bath, or Alison, is a worldly woman. Not only has she traveled the world, she has
experienced the world, in the sexual manner. Alison herself states this at the beginning of her tale,
"Were there no books at all on the subject, my own experience gives me a perfect right to talk of the
sorrows of marriage . . . I've married five husbands . . . ."(Chaucer 174). The point of Alison's long–
winded prologue is to crush the idea that men have a hierarchy of dominance over women. Chaucer
makes this point, and also the point, through Alison's tale, that if women are given what they want,
then they will be obedient and faithful to their men.

At this notion, the Pardoner, another one of Chaucer's characters, asks why he should even wed if
his wife is going to control his body. Alison quickly replies that he should listen to her tale before he
makes judgements about the "gift" that women have. Now Alison begins her tale.
Alison tells the tale of a knight in King Arthur's Court who rapes a beautiful young maiden out of
lust. The knight is sentenced to be decapitated. However, the queen and other ladies of the court ask
Arthur to give the knight one chance to save himself, and being obedient to the wifely counsel,
Arthur agrees. The knight may live, if within one year he can come back to the court and tell them
what women want most in the world. Alison continues her tale, telling all of the different answers
that the knight receives, such as sex, money, flattery, and even remarriage. Not thinking that any of
these answers are true he continues on. Nearing the end of his journey, the knight spots a group of
women dancing in the woods, but when he gets to where they were they have vanished and all that
remains is an ugly old woman. The old woman ask if she can help and the knight tells of his
predicament. The old hag says that she knows the answer and offers to help only if the knight
pledges himself to her. Returning to the court, the knight gives his answer to the women. The knight

Price in the book, is pictured in the bible as the Daughter of Laban. She was a second wife to Jacob
after her father tricked him into marrying her older sister Leah. After finding out he had been
tricked, Jacob worked seven extra years in servitude to earn Rachel's hand in marriage. Rachel then
gave birth to Jacobs two favorite sons, Joseph and Benjamin, she later died in childbirth. Rachel,

Rachel always imagined herself getting married one day and having children, but she never had any
children and had a few husbands. Leah is the first born twin to the Price parents, she grows up and
decides to become married and stay in Africa. In the bible, Leah is the eldest daughter of Laban; she

Iron has been here since the ancient Greece time no one knows who discovered this element. In fact,
we still use this element to make structures steel, weapons, vehicles, anything that made of steel or

The Wife of Bath and his play with Gender
(Feminist and or Misogynist)
Like most of literature, The Wife of Bath can be read in multiple perspectives. Within The Wife of
Bath, it can be read as feministic and or misogynistic. Chaucer projects his views towards feminism
through the wife and her views and attitudes. Many literary critics explored the feministic views of
The Wife of Bath. She is a strongminded and dominant woman who knows exactly what she wants
and doesn't need a man to achieve such unless in regards to sexual behaviors but one must examine
the definition of feminism and this is not it. A feminist is someone who believes that women and
men are equal. Which leads the reader to wonder if Chauncer is playing upon genders or maybe
even confused.
Alisson, also known as the wife of Bath is a renowned character of Chauncer. She is blunt and open
and offers the readers a modern outlook on a woman's place in male–controlled society. Most crown
her as one of the first feminist due to her stand against being portrayed as the "wikked wyves"
(Chaucer 685) as she is described by the male characters in the tale. Still one can notice the
contradictions between what the Wife of Bath has acknowledged throughout the tale and her
behavior. So What is Chaucer really trying to say about the women of that time? Does Chauncer
really belong to the Feminist bunch or not? David Reid discusses chauncers confused outlook on

Cain Was The Firstborn Of Adam And Eve Essay
Cain was the firstborn of Adam and Eve. In him were deposited all the desires of restoration of the
original state of the man and mainly of the state of intimate communion with God the all–powerful.
Therefore, Cain shows himself to be a person who did not please God with his offerings, because his
motivation was different from the motivation of his brother Abel, as he sought to present the best of
his flock to the Lord as we can see at Genesis 4:3–5 "And in process of time it came to pass, that
Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the Lord. And Abel, he also brought of the
firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the Lord had respect unto Abel and to his offering:
But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance
fell". It happened at the end of a time Cain brought from the fruit of the earth an offering to the
Lord; Abel, for his part, brought of the firstfruits of his flock and the fat thereof. The Lord of Abel
and his offering were pleased; While Cain and his offering were not pleased. It is understood that
Cain would have offered an offer thankfully and not voluntarily as was the case of Abel. This form
of offering of Cain displeased the Lord, who came to pay attention to Abel 's offering. Writing about
the punishment God applied to Cain, which was intended to lead him to repentance, shows how
much his heart was blacked out by sin and rebellion against the Creator. But nevertheless

Righteousness In Genesis
Starting in the latter half of the fourth chapter of Genesis, the line of Cain is presented as being
wicked and displaying a lack of regard for God. The fifth chapter, however, offers a light in a dark
tunnel with the line of Seth. Amongst the line of Seth, men began to seek after God and call upon
His name (cf. Gen. 4:26). Enoch, for example, would come to characterize Seth's line and contrast
individuals like Lamech in Cain's line. Noah would also be a descendant of Seth and would be
allowed by God to continue the human race despite the flood. However, the righteousness contained
within Seth's line would not persist for long. Picking up in the sixth chapter of Genesis, the "sons of
God saw the daughters of men, that they were fair; and they

The Consequences of Eating from the Tree of Knowledge Essay
The purpose of this study will be to examine the specific fulfillment of the consequences contained
in the warning against eating of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Before we look at that
fulfillment, it will be beneficial to note the specifics of the promise.
THE PROMISE OF DEATH
The promise seems to be quite clear as God tells Adam and Eve, "in the day that you eat from it you
will surely die" (Genesis 2:17). The Hebrew text literally says, "dying, you will die" (tWmT' tAm),
though we should understand this, not as speaking of two deaths, but as a Hebraic figure of speech
indicating the certainty of that which is promised. The translators of the NAS capture this idea when
they render it, "You will surely die."
Not only is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He does this because it is very evident in the subsequent chapter that when Adam and Eve ate of the
forbidden fruit, they did not immediately fall down and die. Instead we read in Genesis 5 how they
continued to live what seems to have been long lives. We are not told this in the case of Eve, but we
read of Adam living to an advanced old age of 930 years.
This brings us to the crux of our problem. It is a problem between promise and fulfillment. The
promise from God was that eating would lead to death on that very day. The fulfillment as recorded
in Genesis 3–5 sees physical death taking place only after a very long period of many hundreds of
years. The question of how we are to reconcile the difference between the promise and the
fulfillment has brought forth a variety of interpretations..
One can understand the temptation to explain away this seeming contradiction by reinterpreting the
promise of death as referring only to spiritual death. But does this particular passage support or even
allow such an interpretation? When we look into Genesis 4 and 5, each of the many references to
death refer to physical death. Cain kills Abel and is subsequently afraid that someone will find him
and kill him. Lamech kills a young man and writes a song to boast of the fact. Throughout the
lengthy genealogy of Genesis 5, we hear the constant refrain, "And he died," and we understand
each of these references to speak of physical death. Nor does

The Old Testament, By King James Version Of The Bible
The concept of land in the Old Testament is of extreme importance and constantly mentioned
throughout the various books in the scripture. It is quite shocking the way we view land today
compared to the way that it is explained by God in the scripture. While man may have various
misconceptions about land, even about how land is portrayed in the Old Testament, it is God who
dictates to man regarding this subject. Three important facets of land that are portrayed in the Old
Testament are that land is an inheritance, land is to be shared with all of humanity, and land can be
both a gift and a curse depending on the ability of the people to follow God's commandments. Often
times in the King James Version of the bible we hear of the people of Israel "conquering" or
"possessing" the land. This can lead the reader astray in that it portrays the stories of the Old
Testament as a series of wars ordained by God in order for the people to inhabit the land. This
contrasting idea of inheritance rather than possession is evident throughout the Old Testament
beginning with the story of Adam. We see that Adam does nothing to conquer or possess the land,
but is rather given the land as an inheritance from God. It is purely a gift from God and has nothing
to do with man's doing. However, since this land belongs to God and he is the sole owner, he is the
one who determines the rules and laws of the land. This inheritance is dependent on the ability of
humanity to follow God's commandments as

The War Scroll: Summary
The other scrolls found in cave one were written on a variety of topics. The War Scroll discusses the
final war between the powers of good and darkness (God and Satan). In Mansoor's depiction of the
scroll, he explains the scroll discusses the day of victory over the Sons of Darkness to be near. The
victory will be won because of God who has chosen this day in advance. The Sons of Light will
participate in the fight. The scroll says if the Sons of Light keep the rules laid out in the Bible for
them, God will make them win. The War Scroll describes a seven–stage battle with the Romans,
where they are annihilated forever. The war will last forty years, but no fighting will occur on the

It was the most mysterious Qumran text, written on a copper scroll and broken in two. It discusses
sixty–four locations where significant quantities of gold, silver, coins, scrolls, and priest garments
were hidden. Locations are said to be under an architectural or natural structure such as a cave,
cistern, monument, etc. It also discusses the hiding place of that list. The treasures, however, were
never found. If the treasures were real they may have been recovered or ransacked a long time ago.
The copper scroll presented a serious problem. It was impossible to unroll them. The two copper
scrolls, property of the Jordan Government were loaned to the University of Manchester. In
February, 1956 they were dissected and the inscriptions were deciphered. "The method adopted was
the passing of a spindle through the scrolls, then spraying them with aircraft glue and baking them
hard, which allowed them to be sawed by an exceedingly fine circular saw across their rolled–up
length (which would be their width, if unrolled), and the resulting strips were available to be
photographed." (Davies, 18). It was a very long and tedious process, but the contents of the scroll
were too important. The Copper Scrolls were written in Mishnaic Hebrew the "earliest known
extensive text in that dialect." (Zeitlin). Engraving on copper required experience and labor. Only
governments engraved documents on copper, so it is believed the people found this document to be
highly important and of value. Although no treasure was found the scroll was one of the most

Satire And Corruption In Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales
Chaucer uses satirization in the descriptions of the characters in the General Prologue of The
Canterbury Tales to reveal the corruption in the Church that was widespread in society during the
14th century. Manny members of the church used their positions for the personal gain of
themselves. This can be seen in the Prologue when he describes these characters.
Chaucer shows us through the satirization of several characters, the corruptness of the church of
England and the lust/sexual corruption through the common people. Chaucer satirized several
characters to show the reader that they aren't what they appear and to develop the characters through
complex character development. By using satire, Chaucer depicts certain characters in a much ...

In the Prologue and her tale we get to see the Wife of Baths views and we get to see how she is as a
person. She has plenty of experience in the art of virginity, marriage and love because she's been
married five times and knows that her experience is better than the knowledge from books. She isn't
a traditional woman of that time, she's not ashamed of her actions or the fact she's been married
more than the usual. She takes her experience with all of the men she's been with more serious than
the things people say that are inexperienced in love. Geoffrey Chaucer portrays the Wife of Bath as
a promiscuous whore, crude, and hypocritical. On the other hand she is comical, fearless, and
radical. She is proud of everything she's done in her life and the fact that she has had five husbands
does not embarrass her or shame her in any way. She believes in her way of living and thoroughly
supports it with verses from the bible. That is satirical because she is mocking women's repression
with a piece of literature that has been used by men for centuries to justify women's oppression. She
questions the fact that the bible talks about women, staying a virgin and only marrying once but
realizes, that many men in the bible had multiple wives and marriages. "...Lamech and his bigamye?
I woot wel Abroaham was an holy man, And Jacob eek, as fer as evere I can, And eech of hadde
wives mo than two, And many another holy man also." (118) Chaucer uses irony and satire to
questions the church's maltreatment of women by giving the Wife of Bath the opportunity to speak
freely about marriage, sex and the desires of women. Chaucer uses complex character development
to describe the Wife of Bath as a gap–toothed, promiscuous, witty, voluptuous woman who boasts
about the fact she lies, cheats, and deceives her husbands, she shows no remorse for the men she
treats this way. Yet, she is a strong woman

Rhetorical Devices In Genesis
Throughout the Pentateuch (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy), the authors work
to create a clear picture of God's redemptive plan to bring reconciliation from Abram. In a way,
Genesis shows the struggle from paradise to pandemonium to plan in Primeval history. The verses
point out that sin is just getting worse. Specifically, the author of Genesis one through eleven uses
rhetorical devices to evaluate the snowball effect of sin leading to the need for God's intervention. In
Genesis one, readers see that creation is closest to God's heart. Genesis one, two, and three consists
of two different creation accounts. Throughout these accounts, it is clear that God is a God who
separates creation and fills it with good things. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eve took what God created to be good. Immediately after Eve does this, God looks for Adam and
Eve in the garden, hunting for them to start redemptive work. From the beginning of sin, God is
trying to undo the wrath of sin. Readers see sin snowball quickly when Adam and Eve start to blame
each other. Adam blames the woman and God for giving him the woman. Eve blames the serpent.
What was marriage to the full has turned into a fiasco. The Lord then gives consequences for the
disobedience in the garden. Sin creates consequences of separation, fear, shame, blame, and pain
that ripple through the rest of Genesis. Specifically, God puts the consequence of death on Adam.
However, in the midst of sin, readers see the protoevangelium (first presentation of the redemptive
plan– Jesus). The scripture reads, "And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between
your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel" (Genesis 3:15). From
the beginning, the plan of redemption on the cross through Jesus is highlighted to say that sin does
not have the final word, and neither does Satan.
After the fall, stories of severe sin floods through the rest of the primeval history. The first sin
evident is through Cain and Abel, Adam and Eve's children. Sacrifices begin to be offered after the
fall. Abel offers the Lord a lamb while Cain offers fruits. In a way, the redemptive plan is evident in
that God

How Should A Polygamous Family Affect Children?
How could having a polygamous family affect children? Children nowadays are different from the
symbol of wealth in the archaic era. Parents would want their children to develop the perspective
that most people in the society would agree with. A huge family could furnish children with
different perspectives. Some would think the worst scenario that could happen is the child being
criticized and judged for such a large and contrasting family. There is no true predictions of how a
polygamous family environment could affect children negatively or positively. However, having
multiple fathers or mothers could altered the child's position on marriages. The children could

Subsequently, the man would be allowed to govern his own universe (Robinson). However, the
practice of polygamy of the Mormons had declined in the modern days due to the pressure yield by
the government. The Edmunds–Tucker Act in 1887 withdrawn the legal voting rights of the
Mormons, posted a fine of $500–800 and prison terms for any practice of polygamy founded; and
seized church properties that valued over $50,000 (Edmunds–Tucker Act).
Some religion allowing polygamy could be seen on the surface in the prophets. But some religion
had to be looked deeper into the content to see which side does is support. For example, the religion
that we are most familiar with in the western society, Christianity, had embedded polygamous
relationships into the Bible. Characters in the Bible such as Jacob and Abraham had multiple wives.
One of the common known stories in the bible, Noah's Ark, had polygamy embedded into the
background. Lamech, the father of Noah, had two wives who he was married to. In Genesis 4:19–
25, the bible stated: "Then Lamech said to his wives: 'Adah and Zillah, hear my voice; Wives of
Lamech, listen to my speech!...If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, Then Lamech seventy–
sevenfold.'" (Patterson). In Lamech's case, the Flood was actually brought to penalized the sins
Lamech committed and along with the full punishment for sinful men (Patterson).

Noah Compare And Contrast Essay
In this essay I will compare and contrast the movie Noah and the bible references of Noah in
Genesis 5–10. Sometimes when you read a book and then watch a movie about it, it's completely
different. But in the movie Noah and in the bible it basically follows his life the same, there aren't
really any differences. In the movie it describes about his life and his three sons Shem, Ham, and
Japheth. And in the bible it describes about his life and three sons.
Most importantly, in the movie Noah as young boy he witnesses his father Lamech get killed by
Tubal–Cain. And years later as a young man Noah is living with his wife Naameh, and three sons
Shem, Ham, and Japheth. After witnessing a flower grow from the concrete and being haunted by
dreams of a flood, Noah takes time to visit his grandfather Methuselah. After meeting some people
that had recently died they find one survivor, so Noah and his wife decided to adopt her a young girl
named lla. Then Noah and his family are chased by Tubal–Cain and his men seek refuge with the

Methuselah was when he died which he was 969 years old when he died. And it also says that Noah

told Noah that he would cause it to rain for 40 days and 40 nights. It also says that Noah was 600

Noah Is To Blame For The Nature Of Evil In The Bible
After the flood, Noah is given dominion over the earth like the first human beings in the creation
story. The two narrations are parallel. The end of the flood signifies this "restart" of humanity. Noah
then worships God through sacrifice. "Noah built an altar to the Lord, and took of every clean
animal and of every clean bird and offered burnt offerings on the alter. And when the Lord smelled
the pleasing odor, the Lord said in his heart, "I will never again curse the ground because of
humankind, for the inclination of the human heart is evil from youth, nor shall I ever destroy every
living creature as I have done."' (Gen 8:20–21). God accepts the reality that there is no control over
their inclination, and forgives the first humans for their mistake. He rescinds the curse he brought
upon the ground and allows them to eat more than just bread. "Every moving thing that lives shall
be food ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, after much research, there could be an alternative explanation for the wickedness of
human inclination. It could also be argued that human action isn't entirely to blame for the
corruption of the earth, but rather on the evil power that was inflicted upon humanity. The serpent
for example, represented evil and chaos in the underworld. If Eve had not been tempted with the
desire for wisdom, then maybe God's original image of humankind would have been fulfilled and
Noah would not have been the only righteous man in God's eyes. In the end, God accepts that
humans are evil from youth and that they cannot control that, then the evil was be inflicted through
an exterior force. The process of this paper uncovered the answer of why God chose Noah and not
someone else. It also shined a light on the corruption of human nature and connected the motif back
to its origin. It confirmed that Noah did indeed prove his excellence and followed God

Moral Of Noah Research Paper
When growing up as a Christian, some of the first Bible stories ever told are the stories found in
Genesis. These stories were a fun and simple place to start for young Christians, but behind them all
are important moral stories. However, as a child most of these morals were harder to see and it isn't
until later that they are brought to attention. The story of Noah is no different, in the fact that it
contains several great morals that are applicable today. Before discussing the morals of the story, it
is important to first know the story of Noah. Noah is first introduced into the Bible in Genesis 5:29
as the son of Lamech, who names in saying "He will comfort us in the ground the Lord has cursed".
This sets up the main story of Noah and

Noah Reflection
Like the Bible, the movie starts off at the very beginning. Eventually, Noah tells his children the
story of the construction of earth which is accurate to Genesis, though he mixes the second and
fourth days. The Bible says that the sun and the moon was formed on the fourth day not the second
day. When it refers to recent state of the land, the film sets up two factions: Noah and Lemech,
Tubal – Cain and the good men, the "evil" men. The evil are offspring of Cain, which is accurate to
what the Bible says in Chapter 3. According to that chapter, Cain moved east and constructed towns
and eventually he had kids. In the film, Noah's wife was named Naamah and the film made it seem
as if she was an equivalent to Noah. She discusses with him about raising their children and about
the ark. In the Bible, like most females in the story, she is mentioned to as Noah's wife and all we
know is that she had boys and that she was on the ark. It seems that things such as her unfruitfulness
and then her curing at the hands of Methuselah, was added to the movie. We are aware that she had
kids, but the twin girls are not stated.
Na'el the female that Noah makes Ham depart is not in the Bible. As I stated previously, the Bible
says that Ham's spouse was on the ark. Furthermore, in the film Noah finds out about the flood
because of two somewhat complicating predictive thoughts, both of which find him immersed in
water. In the text, its more direct, and God simply tells him what's occurring.

Polygamy : Polygamy, Polygyny, And Polyandry Essay
Polygamy in Islam has restrictions
Hebah Gaballa

Dr. T. Vivian
Religious Studies 316
Polygamy, in general, came in the world before Islam came to be. There's polygamy, polygyny, and
polyandry. Polygamy means a spouse can have multiple spouses. Polyandry means a women can
have multiple husbands. Polygyny means a man can have multiple wives. Polygyny would be the
right term to use since it's the only one allowed in Islam. In Islam, there are two types of marriages
permitted, monogamy and limited polygyny. Limited polygyny comes with some restrictions stated
in the Quran. In Islam, marriage is a sign of God's power and glory. Marriage is completing half the
faith. The Quran says "from His signs is that He has created for you spouses from yourselves so that
you may get peace [and tranquility] through them; and He placed between you love and mercy. In
these are signs for the people who reflect" (Surah Ar– Room, 30:21). Ideally, monogamy is the main
form of marriage in Islam. Polygyny is a provision in marriage that comes with restrictions and
certain circumstances. The majority of Muslim men are in monogamous marriages. Polygamy didn't
first exist in Islam. It had existed long before Islam came in the world. The Bible says that, the
grandson of Adam, Lamech, "took unto him two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the
name of the other Zillah" (The Book of Genesis, 4:19). In the earliest days in human history,
polygamy has existed. Besides

The sea is known for its violent storms because of the difference in temperatures. Hills and
mountains that reach nearly 2,000 feet high on the east side bound the sea. Another contributing
factor to the storms is that the Sea of Galilee is only about 200 feet at its deepest, which causes the
wind to create violent waves. The Sea of Galilee is where Jesus performed many of His miracles.
Four of apostles–Peter, Andrew, James, and John came to Jesus after he stilled a ragging storm; this
is also, where Jesus and Peter walked on water. The Sea of Galilee also is the backdrop for feeding
5,000 people with only a loaf of bread and two fish. This is also, where Mary of Magdala was from.
The Sea of Galilee is present throughout the Bible it is referenced in Matthew, Mark, Luke, John,
Number, Deuteronomy, Joshua, and 1 Kings.

Noah And Noah : The Story Of Noah By Tubal-Noah
In the movie Noah, you are exposed to many different scenarios and decisions that have various
ways to be looked at and how someone would deal with it personally. Although this myth is based
on a time that we will never be apart of because it was so long ago you can still see how this relates
to the same things that are happening in today's world just not in the same exact scenario. The quote
by Tubal–Cain in the movie he say's " Man isn't ruled by the Heavens. A man is ruled by his will."
(Noah, Aronofsky) That is one part of the movie that stood out the most to me. I think it was a major
part of the author's purpose in this movie, how he could show there are two sides of people and how
some choose to let their selfishness rule them instead of being obedient and following the creator's
rules for them. In a brief explanation of the movie, Noah is a flood myth that took place before
Christ existed. It starts off with the off–springs off Cain and Abel that declared war against each
other because of their beliefs. Noah, the son of Lamech says that The Creator has spoken to him
through his dreams at night and that a flood is coming to wipe out the human race because of how
they treated his world. He wants a fresh start to the world he created, and this is because he no
longer will watch what they have done to it. Noah is told that he has a task of creating an ark for all
of the animals to survive the flood since they are innocent to The Creator. Noah is only to allow his

Analyzing Cain's The Garden Of Eden
God creates everything, from plants to animals, from bacteria to cells, and blesses all he makes and
tells them to be loyal and to reproduce. God sees how everything he made is good. He finishes all of
his creations on the sixth day. God has a loyal, bold, and mature character. He has created "Earth"
and made living creatures which can lead to the foreshadowing of the creation of man.
God sits back and sees what he has made. He blesses the seventh day in which he has officially
finished his creations. He then makes man and places him in the 'Garden of Eden', where everything
he needs to survive has been given to him. Later on he decides that a man needs a partner so he
won't be alone, and from man he made a "woman". They both knew not evil ... Show more content

( Stating what is thought to be discovered: "knew" meaning they had sex, "bare" meaning she gave
birth too?). To gain God's respect Cain offered God wheat and food that he had planted, and Abel
offered him his first born sheep. God only took respect in for Abel and denied Cain's offering. (
Inferencing: Maybe God denied Cain's offering because it reminded him that his creation,Adam,
failed to obey him. God probably denied Cain's crops because they were born from Adam's
mistake.) Cain then develops anger and jealousy, and kills his brother. His punishment is that since
his brothers blood touched his soil, it would no longer produce for him, ( He could no longer do
what he loved doing the most.)and that he was to wander the Earth forever;however,Cain complains
that he just can't take this punishment, that he'll have to hide from God's presence, and whoever
finds him can kill him, but God says that whoever kills him will be sorry and places a mark on him
which will protect him (Inference: God probably placed a "mark" on him so he can pay for his sin) .
Cain and his wife have Enoch, Enoch bares Irad, Irad bares Mejuhael, Mejuhael bares Methusael,
Methusael bares Lamech. Lamech, on the contrary, has 2 wives Adah and Zillah, Adah gives birth to
Jabal and Jubal, Zillah gives birth to Tobalcain and Naamah. Jabal is the first to dwell in tents and
Jubal is the first musician. Adam and Eve bear Seth, given to them by "The

Cain Traditions

  • 1. Cain Traditions The lineages which proceeded from the lines of Seth and Cain became two societies with distinct opposing qualities; Seth's line was faithful to God, Cain's was not; and in the end, the legacy of Cain was destroyed in their sin. Adam's first two sons were named Cain and Abel (Genesis 4:1, 2). Despite being raised in the same environment, Cain's character was vastly different from that of Abel. When Abel's animal offering was accepted by God, and Cain's fruit offering was not, Cain became jealous of Abel (Genesis 4:4–6). Cain then killed his brother out of spite, and turned away from God (Genesis 4:8, 16). Adam and Eve were given another son, named Seth, to replace Abel (Genesis 4:25). The lineage of Seth consisted of those who were faithful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the years progressed, the population of the earth began to grow exponentially, and the line of Seth began to marry those in the line of Cain (Genesis 6:2). They were obviously influenced by Cain's culture, since they committed bigamy in taking "wives of all which they chose" (Genesis 6:2). We see that "the earth was filled with violence," and by this we can infer that they inherited this trait from Cain's line as well (Genesis 6:11). Because of the intermarriage of the ancestral lines, the men on earth inherited great intelligence, being "giants" of mental power, and as the generations continued, became "men of renown" just as Lamech's children (Genesis 6:4). God was "grieved" that He had created man, and found it more merciful to destroy them than to allow the incredible sin to continue (Genesis 6:6–7). But Noah "found grace in the eyes of the Lord," and we can see in chapter 5 verses 3–32 that he was directly related to Seth (Genesis 6:9). His family was chosen by God to be the line from which all generations would follow, and by this sparing Seth's lineage would be kept pure (Genesis 6:18). In chapter 6 verse 13, God states that He will "destroy [the wicked] with the earth." The Hebrew word for "with" here can be translated as "by", and by this we observe that the earth was wicked "through them," and they will be destroyed by that which they corrupted (Genesis ... • 2. Frankenstein Chapter 6 Chapter Summaries Genesis Chapter three is crucial chapter in scripture; through this chapter we have a tendency to or able to answer the queries of life. Why is there evil in the world? Why do people die? Why is life hard? Is there any hope? We have a tendency to learn the planet that we have a tendency to occupy, wasn't the manner it was originally created. In our day and age our world may be a "fallen world" that is separated from God its creator. This chapter helps explain these questions to us. In the third chapter, the angelic world has its own fall. This fall within the angelic world, intersects the physical world of the new created earth. On earth, Adam and Eve should be in fellowship with the Creator of the Universe, walking with Him within the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The fallen cherub angel is allowed to test Adam and Eve within the Garden of Eden. He begins by asking about God's command; He then calls God a "Liar", and that the girl is to be "Like God". Sadly Eve falls, then takes her husband Adam to conjointly hear the Serpent, indwelt by Devil. As a result Adam and Eve, loose fellowship with God and dismissed from the Garden, beside the skins of two animals that had died to hide their shame. Before they're dismissed, God spells out His set up of redemption that in some unspecified time in the future through the "Seed" of the girl, the pinnacle of the serpent would be done (Satan), even through the Serpent would wound the heel of the approaching "Seed of the Woman", and then Satan would be devastated. Therefore, during this chapter we have a tendency to see why man is fallen and therefore the starting of God's set up of redemption is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Short Story Of Jealousy Jealousy will without doubt affect everyone physically nonetheless it will also affect you mentally. The phrase " family will always stab you in the back" never wants to cross your mind as true; but for one set of brothers they took this saying literally. Your brother is supposed to be your best friend not your killer. Throughout the short story it is displayed rather clearly with Cain and, Abel. The actions of Cain and Abel it is communitiave that jealousy can provoke people to do unthinkable things. When a family finally receives the biggest blessing of having a child their life becomes complete. Although for Adam and Eve they prayed to the lord nightly for just one more son, they already had a perfect child but that was just not enough. Lord brought Abel down to them. Cain and Abel were brothers. Cain worked the soil as Abel worked with the animal. In Cain's head Abel had gotten the better job of the two and that is instantly when jealousy arouse inside of him. Because Abel got the "better" job it was important to ensure God had continued to be happy with him, Cain brought the Lord some fresh fruit from the soil he had recently been working on and God barely noticed. Abel then brought a fat portion from the animals he had recently been working with and God looked with favor at him. This caused Cain to get the feeling a jealousy form in the pit of his stomach. The events above display the rising action and it proves that all the hard work Cain put in it will never ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. What Is Polygamy A Subculture If you have never heard of polygamy you will and if you had in the past it was most likely due to the hit reality series "Sister Wives" about a polygamist family in the state of Utah. Polygamy is defined as the practice or condition of having more than one spouse at a time. Polygamy is nothing new and has been practice for hundreds of years but it is now seen as an immoral act, and a criminal act in a large majority of the of the world. Now even though polygamy is wide known in certain areas like Africa (South Africa, Kenya), Asia (middle east), etc. Still there are rules that they must abide by and it frowned on in an obese manner in areas like the United States, Australia, and China, because as a society we see it as an unjust act that can not be upheld by any justification but it is permitted in the bible. • 5. The Movie : Noah And The Bible Story For my essay I will be analyzing the similarities and differences between the interpretations of Noah the film: Noah (Paramount Pictures and Regency Enterprises, 2014) and the bible story. Writer– director Darren Aronofsky, was brought up with a Jewish education and a deep fascination in the story of Noah 's ark it took him over 15 years to get the film afloat. But with all biblical movies there is always some type of controversy and unfortunately it even comes from people who have never even seen the movie. The intended audience of the film is unclear, which I find a little weird because I expected the audience to Christians and people of the Jewish faith who know the story of Noah. The beginning two and a the half minutes into the movie describes the beginning of the Book of Genesis including creation, the original sin, the curse of Cain, and anything preceding Noah. The movie continues with Noah as a child, on a hill with his father Lamech, who is about to give him an important heirloom – the skin of the original serpent from Eden– which has been passed down. Then suddenly, a large group of people led by a young king named Tubal–Cain, who wants to make that land into a mine approaches Lamech. Seeing Noah's father, Tubal–Cain kills him and takes the serpent 's skin, while Noah runs. In the bible it doesn 't say anything about passing on a snake 's skin or even that Noah's father had spoken to him. In the bible the story begins with the line of the descendents of Cain ... The first group is the twenty–men making up the ancestral lineage between Adam to Abraham. At the beginning of this familial lineage there were ten men that lived before the flood who had extremely long lives and were known as the Antediluvian Patriarchs, which consisted of Adam, Seth, Enos, Kenan, Mahalalel, Jared, Enoch, Methuselah, Lamech and Noah. The second group known as the Patriarchs of Judaism were the first three leaders of the Israelites that included Abraham, his son Isaac and his grandson Jacob. • 7. Essay on Names in The Odyssey and The Bible Importance of Names in The Odyssey and The Bible Two of the most widely studied ancient works are Homer's Odyssey and the book of Genesis from the Bible. Each of these texts provides a unique viewpoint of an early civilization. In both of the texts, one can learn not only stories about great heroes, but also about the way that these peoples lived and what they believed. Many interesting parallels can be drawn between the two developing societies shown in the Odyssey and the book of Genesis. One parallel is the importance placed on names by each culture. Although viewed as important in different ways, the value placed on a name shows a striking similarity between the evolving cultures of both the Greeks and the Hebrews. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, when Athena, disguised as Mentês, introduces herself to Telemachus, she says, "My name is Mentês; I am the son of a clever father, Anchialos". A name symbolized not only one's own fame and honor, but also that of one's ancestry. If a man's family was particularly honorable or dishonorable, it was instantly obvious because of the renown and history that stood behind his name. The name was truly the most important possession of any man in early Grecian culture. This is probably best evidenced by Odysseus' encounter with the cyclops, Polyphemos. In the beginning, Odysseus merely tells Polyphemos that he is Noman, a man with no history or background, about whom the cyclops does not know if he should fear or welcome, a man whom he could never find again. After he has injured Polyphemos and is away from him, however, Odysseus tells his name, saying, "...your blinder was Odysseus, the conqueror of Troy, the son of Laërtês, whose address is in Ithaca!" It seems that Odysseus cannot stand the thought of this great victory not being added to the history of his name, and, although it gets him in lots of trouble, thinks it much worse to do a great deed unknown than to suffer the consequences of having it known. This example clearly summarizes the higher and deeper purpose of a name in ancient Grecian culture, to be a witness for the man himself and his character. In the Odyssey, Homer also uses the names ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Noah, The Ark Builder Noah, the ark–builder finds favor with God amidst destruction and evokes the trait of being loyal. This trait represents Noah's character well because he put great trust in God and did whatever he needed to do to save humanity and make sure that life for all living creatures were pleasant. Noah listened to God and understood why God felt the way he did about the world, he also played a vital role in the building of the ark that saved he, his family, and living creatures from the flood, and lastly, abided by the covenant that God made with him. Because of Noah's obedience for God throughout the flood and covenant, this paper will argue that the central character trait of Noah is loyalty. Before understanding the way in which Noah is loyal, it is important to understand where his actions are coming from. The name Lamech appears in both genealogies, the Cainite and Sethite. In contrast to Cainite Lamech, Sethite Lamech is anticipating Noah's birth as a possible solution to the problems that are brought about by sin. The verse in which Lamech names Noah (Gen 5:29) is pivotal; it looks backs to the pronouncement of divine judgement while also looking forward to Noah and his relationship with God. Adam's disobedience has sentenced humanity to hard labor and pain from which there seems to be no relief. Lamech longs that his son may bring some comfort, and he calls him Noah with this in mind. • 9. Genesis Chapter Summaries The book of Genesis covers many topics. Creation is the theme of chapter one. In chapter two, God says that His creation is good. He then creates man from the dust and women from the man. Next is the Fall of Man, Eve is tempted by the serpent to eat of the tree God told them not to eat. Both, Eve and Adam end up eating of the fruit from the tree resulting in the punishments from God for all of mankind. Chapter four is about Cain and Abel. It also covers the first murder and first record of bigamy. It gives some lineage of Cain and also tells of Eve's birth of Seth who replaced Abel. Chapter five is about the generations of Adam. Adam lived to be 930 years old. Chapters six through eight is about Noah building the Ark and the Flood. Chapter nine, God promises to never destroy the Earth with a flood again. I also learned that Genesis covers 2, 200 years. Enoch is the first man not to die and he was the son of Cain. The first revival occurred at Bethel, something else I did not know. I was reminded of the picture of Christ death that will be to come, and that God gave this picture in the Garden of Eden when He killed an animal to clothed Adam and Eve. Classified as string instruments both the guitar and the oud have a few similarities. The earliest proof of the existence of an instrument like the Oud can be found in an excavated cylindrical seal from the Uruk Period in Mesopotamia, which dates back almost 5000 years. Since then, the Oud has been revered as the 'King of Instruments,' telling the stories of its time through its melodious music. Even today, the beautiful sounds of the Oud have the power to transport the listener to another time. History is full of stories about the Oud. According to Abu Nasr Muhammad Ibn Muhammad Al Farabi, the 10th century Islamic scholar and philosopher, Lamech, the sixth grandson of Adam, invented the Oud. Perhaps it is because of the great tragedy it portrays, or because it is a story of salvation. Noah and his family along with the animals were saved from the flood, while the other people and animals perished as a result of it. Growing up the story of Noah and the ark was one of my favorites; Quite simply because of the drawings depicting the story. God decided to wipe out mankind with a flood. In order to help repopulate the earth after the flood was over, God called upon Noah. God told Noah to build himself an ark out of cypress wood, with room inside. He told Noah to cover the ark, both inside and out with pitch to protect it from the waters. God instructed Noah as to the size of the ark, and what it was to look like. "The ark is to be 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet high. Make a roof for it and finish the ark within 18 inches of the top. Put a door in the side of the ark and make lower, middle, and upper decks." (Genesis 6: 15–16) God also told Noah about the plan for the flood, and what he was to do with the ark. Noah, his wife, his sons, and his sons wives would all be on the ark an spared from the destruction the flood would cause. Along with his family, God wanted Noah to bring two of all living creatures, one male, and one female. Brining a male and a female of each kind of creature would allow them to reproduce and repopulate their species. The last thing God commanded Noah to do was to take every kind of food that is to be eaten and stored for his family and the creatures. Noah and his family entered the ark as God had commanded. • 12. Genesis Compare And Contrast Essay In this essay I will analyze and differentiate two completely contrasting legacies left behind by Cain and Seth, the descendants of Adam and Eve. Reflecting on the point in time where Eve appointed eponyms for her children, their very names conceptualized a foreshadowing of this apparent contrast. In Hebrew, Cain means 'spear' and Seth means 'anointed' or 'granted' a name that alludes to Eve's utterance found in Genesis 4:25, "God has granted me another child in the place of Abel since Cain killed him". This sets the tone of the significant dissimilarity of their character later distinguished in the narrative of Genesis. Cain was the primary exploitation for murder, and not only the act of killing, but that of his beloved brother. (Genesis 4:11–16) And in the midst of his child Enoch being born, Cain was developing the world's first advanced civilized society. (Genesis 4:17) Contrasting, Seth was the third son of ... • 13. Christianity And Religion In Beowulf And The Canterbury Tales Throughout the Middle Ages, religion was a major theme in the literature of that time. Works such as Beowulf and The Canterbury Tales are examples of this theme in action, but in very different ways. God is seen purely as goodness in Beowulf, and everything that God approves of is good as well. Contrarily, The Canterbury Tales satirizes religion by showing members of the church in a negative manner and debating the teachings of the Bible, the latter particularly in "The Wife of Bath's Prologue." Despite these different takes on Christianity, the characters in both stories sin, yet are defended. Both Beowulf and "The Wife of Bath's Prologue" contain different defenses of the protagonist's sin, to varying degrees of success. Beowulf's sins revolve around personality traits, namely his boastfulness and greed, however the author does not acknowledge this sin. First and foremost, it must be made clear that these sins truly exist in Beowulf and are in opposition to Christian morals, regardless of whether or not the author condemns them. Upon his arrival in Heorot, Beowulf's conversation with Unferth demonstrates how his pride and boastfulness is integral to his reputation. Unferth asks, "Are you the Beowulf who took on Breca / in a swimming match on the open sea, / risking the water just to prove that you could win? / It was sheer vanity made you venture out / on the main deep," (Beowulf 506–510). Aside from the book being page–turner, you could find biblical allusion on almost any page you turned to. Right off the bat, the title of the book has the word "bible" in it. Continuing to read, the names of the characters in the book, except Orleanna, relate to a character or person and their story in the bible. Rachel, the eldest daughter of Nathan Price in the book, is pictured in the bible as the Daughter of Laban. She was a second wife to Jacob after her father tricked him into marrying her older sister Leah. After finding out he had been tricked, Jacob worked seven extra years in servitude to earn Rachel's hand in marriage. Rachel then gave birth to Jacobs two favorite sons, Joseph and Benjamin, she later died in childbirth. Rachel, never fond of hard work, was known for her contemplative nature. The Wife Of Bath And His Play With Gender Essay Amber Cohens Professor Robichaud Brit. literature 1 10/18/16 The Wife of Bath and his play with Gender (Feminist and or Misogynist) Like most of literature, The Wife of Bath can be read in multiple perspectives. Within The Wife of Bath, it can be read as feministic and or misogynistic. Chaucer projects his views towards feminism through the wife and her views and attitudes. Many literary critics explored the feministic views of The Wife of Bath. She is a strongminded and dominant woman who knows exactly what she wants and doesn't need a man to achieve such unless in regards to sexual behaviors but one must examine the definition of feminism and this is not it. A feminist is someone who believes that women and men are equal. Which leads the reader to wonder if Chauncer is playing upon genders or maybe even confused. Alisson, also known as the wife of Bath is a renowned character of Chauncer. She is blunt and open and offers the readers a modern outlook on a woman's place in male–controlled society. In him were deposited all the desires of restoration of the original state of the man and mainly of the state of intimate communion with God the all–powerful. Therefore, Cain shows himself to be a person who did not please God with his offerings, because his motivation was different from the motivation of his brother Abel, as he sought to present the best of his flock to the Lord as we can see at Genesis 4:3–5 "And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the Lord. Before we look at that fulfillment, it will be beneficial to note the specifics of the promise. THE PROMISE OF DEATH The promise seems to be quite clear as God tells Adam and Eve, "in the day that you eat from it you will surely die" (Genesis 2:17). The Hebrew text literally says, "dying, you will die" (tWmT' tAm), though we should understand this, not as speaking of two deaths, but as a Hebraic figure of speech indicating the certainty of that which is promised. He does this because it is very evident in the subsequent chapter that when Adam and Eve ate of the forbidden fruit, they did not immediately fall down and die. Instead we read in Genesis 5 how they continued to live what seems to have been long lives. We are not told this in the case of Eve, but we read of Adam living to an advanced old age of 930 years. This brings us to the crux of our problem. It is a problem between promise and fulfillment. The promise from God was that eating would lead to death on that very day. The fulfillment as recorded in Genesis 3–5 sees physical death taking place only after a very long period of many hundreds of years. The question of how we are to reconcile the difference between the promise and the fulfillment has brought forth a variety of interpretations.. One can understand the temptation to explain away this seeming contradiction by reinterpreting the promise of death as referring only to spiritual death. But does this particular passage support or even allow such an interpretation? When we look into Genesis 4 and 5, each of the many references to death refer to physical death. Cain kills Abel and is subsequently afraid that someone will find him and kill him. Lamech kills a young man and writes a song to boast of the fact. Throughout the lengthy genealogy of Genesis 5, we hear the constant refrain, "And he died," and we understand each of these references to speak of physical death. Nor does ... • 26. The Old Testament, By King James Version Of The Bible The concept of land in the Old Testament is of extreme importance and constantly mentioned throughout the various books in the scripture. It is quite shocking the way we view land today compared to the way that it is explained by God in the scripture. While man may have various misconceptions about land, even about how land is portrayed in the Old Testament, it is God who dictates to man regarding this subject. Three important facets of land that are portrayed in the Old Testament are that land is an inheritance, land is to be shared with all of humanity, and land can be both a gift and a curse depending on the ability of the people to follow God's commandments. Often times in the King James Version of the bible we hear of the people of Israel "conquering" or "possessing" the land. This can lead the reader astray in that it portrays the stories of the Old Testament as a series of wars ordained by God in order for the people to inhabit the land. This contrasting idea of inheritance rather than possession is evident throughout the Old Testament beginning with the story of Adam. We see that Adam does nothing to conquer or possess the land, but is rather given the land as an inheritance from God. It is purely a gift from God and has nothing to do with man's doing. However, since this land belongs to God and he is the sole owner, he is the one who determines the rules and laws of the land. If the treasures were real they may have been recovered or ransacked a long time ago. The copper scroll presented a serious problem. It was impossible to unroll them. The two copper scrolls, property of the Jordan Government were loaned to the University of Manchester. In February, 1956 they were dissected and the inscriptions were deciphered. "The method adopted was the passing of a spindle through the scrolls, then spraying them with aircraft glue and baking them hard, which allowed them to be sawed by an exceedingly fine circular saw across their rolled–up length (which would be their width, if unrolled), and the resulting strips were available to be photographed." (Davies, 18). It was a very long and tedious process, but the contents of the scroll were too important. The Copper Scrolls were written in Mishnaic Hebrew the "earliest known extensive text in that dialect." (Zeitlin). Engraving on copper required experience and labor. Only governments engraved documents on copper, so it is believed the people found this document to be highly important and of value. • 28. Satire And Corruption In Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales Chaucer uses satirization in the descriptions of the characters in the General Prologue of The Canterbury Tales to reveal the corruption in the Church that was widespread in society during the 14th century. Manny members of the church used their positions for the personal gain of themselves. This can be seen in the Prologue when he describes these characters. Chaucer shows us through the satirization of several characters, the corruptness of the church of England and the lust/sexual corruption through the common people. Chaucer satirized several characters to show the reader that they aren't what they appear and to develop the characters through complex character development. By using satire, Chaucer depicts certain characters in a much ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the Prologue and her tale we get to see the Wife of Baths views and we get to see how she is as a person. She has plenty of experience in the art of virginity, marriage and love because she's been married five times and knows that her experience is better than the knowledge from books. She isn't a traditional woman of that time, she's not ashamed of her actions or the fact she's been married more than the usual. She takes her experience with all of the men she's been with more serious than the things people say that are inexperienced in love. Geoffrey Chaucer portrays the Wife of Bath as a promiscuous whore, crude, and hypocritical. On the other hand she is comical, fearless, and radical. She is proud of everything she's done in her life and the fact that she has had five husbands does not embarrass her or shame her in any way. She believes in her way of living and thoroughly supports it with verses from the bible. That is satirical because she is mocking women's repression with a piece of literature that has been used by men for centuries to justify women's oppression. She questions the fact that the bible talks about women, staying a virgin and only marrying once but realizes, that many men in the bible had multiple wives and marriages. "...Lamech and his bigamye? I woot wel Abroaham was an holy man, And Jacob eek, as fer as evere I can, And eech of hadde wives mo than two, And many another holy man also." (118) Chaucer uses irony and satire to questions the church's maltreatment of women by giving the Wife of Bath the opportunity to speak freely about marriage, sex and the desires of women. Chaucer uses complex character development to describe the Wife of Bath as a gap–toothed, promiscuous, witty, voluptuous woman who boasts about the fact she lies, cheats, and deceives her husbands, she shows no remorse for the men she treats this way. • 29. Rhetorical Devices In Genesis Throughout the Pentateuch (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy), the authors work to create a clear picture of God's redemptive plan to bring reconciliation from Abram. In a way, Genesis shows the struggle from paradise to pandemonium to plan in Primeval history. The verses point out that sin is just getting worse. Specifically, the author of Genesis one through eleven uses rhetorical devices to evaluate the snowball effect of sin leading to the need for God's intervention. In Genesis one, readers see that creation is closest to God's heart. Genesis one, two, and three consists of two different creation accounts. Throughout these accounts, it is clear that God is a God who separates creation and fills it with good things. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Eve took what God created to be good. Immediately after Eve does this, God looks for Adam and Eve in the garden, hunting for them to start redemptive work. From the beginning of sin, God is trying to undo the wrath of sin. Readers see sin snowball quickly when Adam and Eve start to blame each other. Adam blames the woman and God for giving him the woman. Eve blames the serpent. What was marriage to the full has turned into a fiasco. The Lord then gives consequences for the disobedience in the garden. Sin creates consequences of separation, fear, shame, blame, and pain that ripple through the rest of Genesis. Specifically, God puts the consequence of death on Adam. However, in the midst of sin, readers see the protoevangelium (first presentation of the redemptive plan– Jesus). The scripture reads, "And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel" (Genesis 3:15). From the beginning, the plan of redemption on the cross through Jesus is highlighted to say that sin does not have the final word, and neither does Satan. After the fall, stories of severe sin floods through the rest of the primeval history. The first sin evident is through Cain and Abel, Adam and Eve's children. Sacrifices begin to be offered after the fall. Abel offers the Lord a lamb while Cain offers fruits. In a way, the redemptive plan is evident in that God ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. How Should A Polygamous Family Affect Children? How could having a polygamous family affect children? Children nowadays are different from the symbol of wealth in the archaic era. Parents would want their children to develop the perspective that most people in the society would agree with. A huge family could furnish children with different perspectives. Some would think the worst scenario that could happen is the child being criticized and judged for such a large and contrasting family. There is no true predictions of how a polygamous family environment could affect children negatively or positively. However, having multiple fathers or mothers could altered the child's position on marriages. The children could develop different vistas that could counteract on each other. It is a ... The Edmunds–Tucker Act in 1887 withdrawn the legal voting rights of the Mormons, posted a fine of $500–800 and prison terms for any practice of polygamy founded; and seized church properties that valued over $50,000 (Edmunds–Tucker Act). Some religion allowing polygamy could be seen on the surface in the prophets. But some religion had to be looked deeper into the content to see which side does is support. For example, the religion that we are most familiar with in the western society, Christianity, had embedded polygamous relationships into the Bible. Characters in the Bible such as Jacob and Abraham had multiple wives. One of the common known stories in the bible, Noah's Ark, had polygamy embedded into the background. Lamech, the father of Noah, had two wives who he was married to. In Genesis 4:19– 25, the bible stated: "Then Lamech said to his wives: 'Adah and Zillah, hear my voice; Wives of Lamech, listen to my speech!...If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, Then Lamech seventy– sevenfold.'" • 31. Noah Compare And Contrast Essay In this essay I will compare and contrast the movie Noah and the bible references of Noah in Genesis 5–10. Sometimes when you read a book and then watch a movie about it, it's completely different. But in the movie Noah and in the bible it basically follows his life the same, there aren't really any differences. In the movie it describes about his life and his three sons Shem, Ham, and Japheth. And in the bible it describes about his life and three sons. Most importantly, in the movie Noah as young boy he witnesses his father Lamech get killed by Tubal–Cain. And years later as a young man Noah is living with his wife Naameh, and three sons Shem, Ham, and Japheth. After witnessing a flower grow from the concrete and being haunted by dreams of a flood, Noah takes time to visit his grandfather Methuselah. After meeting some people that had recently died they find one survivor, so Noah and his wife decided to adopt her a young girl named lla. • 32. Noah Is To Blame For The Nature Of Evil In The Bible After the flood, Noah is given dominion over the earth like the first human beings in the creation story. The two narrations are parallel. The end of the flood signifies this "restart" of humanity. Noah then worships God through sacrifice. "Noah built an altar to the Lord, and took of every clean animal and of every clean bird and offered burnt offerings on the alter. And when the Lord smelled the pleasing odor, the Lord said in his heart, "I will never again curse the ground because of humankind, for the inclination of the human heart is evil from youth, nor shall I ever destroy every living creature as I have done."' (Gen 8:20–21). God accepts the reality that there is no control over their inclination, and forgives the first humans for their mistake. He rescinds the curse he brought upon the ground and allows them to eat more than just bread. "Every moving thing that lives shall be food ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, after much research, there could be an alternative explanation for the wickedness of human inclination. It could also be argued that human action isn't entirely to blame for the corruption of the earth, but rather on the evil power that was inflicted upon humanity. The serpent for example, represented evil and chaos in the underworld. If Eve had not been tempted with the desire for wisdom, then maybe God's original image of humankind would have been fulfilled and Noah would not have been the only righteous man in God's eyes. In the end, God accepts that humans are evil from youth and that they cannot control that, then the evil was be inflicted through an exterior force. These stories were a fun and simple place to start for young Christians, but behind them all are important moral stories. However, as a child most of these morals were harder to see and it isn't until later that they are brought to attention. The story of Noah is no different, in the fact that it contains several great morals that are applicable today. Before discussing the morals of the story, it is important to first know the story of Noah. • 34. Noah Reflection Like the Bible, the movie starts off at the very beginning. Eventually, Noah tells his children the story of the construction of earth which is accurate to Genesis, though he mixes the second and fourth days. The Bible says that the sun and the moon was formed on the fourth day not the second day. When it refers to recent state of the land, the film sets up two factions: Noah and Lemech, Tubal – Cain and the good men, the "evil" men. The evil are offspring of Cain, which is accurate to what the Bible says in Chapter 3. According to that chapter, Cain moved east and constructed towns and eventually he had kids. In the film, Noah's wife was named Naamah and the film made it seem as if she was an equivalent to Noah. She discusses with him about raising their children and about the ark. In the Bible, like most females in the story, she is mentioned to as Noah's wife and all we know is that she had boys and that she was on the ark. It seems that things such as her unfruitfulness and then her curing at the hands of Methuselah, was added to the movie. We are aware that she had kids, but the twin girls are not stated. Na'el the female that Noah makes Ham depart is not in the Bible. As I stated previously, the Bible says that Ham's spouse was on the ark. Furthermore, in the film Noah finds out about the flood because of two somewhat complicating predictive thoughts, both of which find him immersed in water. In the text, its more direct, and God simply tells him what's occurring. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Polygamy : Polygamy, Polygyny, And Polyandry Essay Polygamy in Islam has restrictions Hebah Gaballa March 6, 2015 Dr. T. Vivian Religious Studies 316 Polygamy, in general, came in the world before Islam came to be. There's polygamy, polygyny, and polyandry. Polygamy means a spouse can have multiple spouses. Polyandry means a women can have multiple husbands. Polygyny means a man can have multiple wives. Polygyny would be the right term to use since it's the only one allowed in Islam. In Islam, there are two types of marriages permitted, monogamy and limited polygyny. Limited polygyny comes with some restrictions stated in the Quran. In Islam, marriage is a sign of God's power and glory. Marriage is completing half the faith. The Quran says "from His signs is that He has created for you spouses from yourselves so that you may get peace [and tranquility] through them; and He placed between you love and mercy. In these are signs for the people who reflect" (Surah Ar– Room, 30:21). Ideally, monogamy is the main form of marriage in Islam. Polygyny is a provision in marriage that comes with restrictions and certain circumstances. The majority of Muslim men are in monogamous marriages. Polygamy didn't first exist in Islam. It had existed long before Islam came in the world. The Bible says that, the grandson of Adam, Lamech, "took unto him two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah" (The Book of Genesis, 4:19). • 39. Noah And Noah : The Story Of Noah By Tubal-Noah In the movie Noah, you are exposed to many different scenarios and decisions that have various ways to be looked at and how someone would deal with it personally. Although this myth is based on a time that we will never be apart of because it was so long ago you can still see how this relates to the same things that are happening in today's world just not in the same exact scenario. The quote by Tubal–Cain in the movie he say's " Man isn't ruled by the Heavens. A man is ruled by his will." (Noah, Aronofsky) That is one part of the movie that stood out the most to me. I think it was a major part of the author's purpose in this movie, how he could show there are two sides of people and how some choose to let their selfishness rule them instead of being obedient and following the creator's rules for them. In a brief explanation of the movie, Noah is a flood myth that took place before Christ existed. It starts off with the off–springs off Cain and Abel that declared war against each other because of their beliefs. Noah, the son of Lamech says that The Creator has spoken to him through his dreams at night and that a flood is coming to wipe out the human race because of how they treated his world. He wants a fresh start to the world he created, and this is because he no longer will watch what they have done to it.
