The mystery Tip
"Welcome in; let me know whenever you guys are ready to order. If you have any questions,
I'm here for you guys!" I said to them as they came in. a Tall white with dark brown hair
came to me and said, "I have a question." He already looked like he had a bad day that still
did not stop me. I answered politely and said, "What can I do for you? I will try to answer
the best I can." he proceeded to say, "What are some of the best meats you guys have here,
and which one do you like?" I responded and said, "I like brisket and turkey. They are my
personal favorite. You can get the meat as a 2-meat plate or just one single meat, which both
come with two sides. He then starts talking to his family. His family seemed nice and looked
like they were very excited to try the BBQ place. They all wanted different things as I took
their order. The guy then asked questions like, "Where are you from?" He says, "You look
Indian; do you get that a lot?" I said, "Yes, I do; I am Hispanic. My parents are from Mexico,
and I was born in Atlanta, Ga." He tapped his card on the screen, and his card kept having
problems until it finally worked. "Thank you, let me have you choose an option on top and
sign at the bottom I said to him." as he signed, I waited patiently for him. He continued to
ask questions and noticed his total went up; he then started getting mad because he said I
added the tip myself, which was not the case at all. I ended up having to call my manager
because not only was he racist, but he was wrongfully accusing me of something he did and
didn't realize.
Story #2
Fake 20 Bill
"Ughh, another double!!" I said to Bella as I walked into work.
"I know it sucks having two jobs, but we need money." We continued to set up the bar and
the front area and got ready to open.
"I hope we get swamped today!" it had been months since fall started, and slow season
causes are tips not to be as much, and we can't afford to get tipped out a lot. So as we
continued to set up, the last thing I did was brew the tea. Once that was done, we were all
done setting up the front and the bar area. We got swamped. Georgia State Football had a
game, and we had lined up to the door, and the window outside was up to the stairs of the
patio.
"I welcome in. What can I do for you?" all I kept hearing was coming from both of us. 2 tall
2. Hispanic men showed up at the register. "What type of slushies do you guys have they said"
Bella went on to tell them, "we have a margarita, a strawberry vodka lemonade, and a
Cheerwine and whiskey." as they looked at the slushies, they proceeded to say, "Can we try"
I then gave them a cup for them to try. "Whoever made the margarita needs to get fired. Can
we talk to your manager?" they said laughingly; I ignored them because we were swamped.
They then started talking about my manager and calling them names. He then said I never
told them I could make a margarita. Me being nice, I made it for free. As they tried to say,
they still had something to say and kept being disruptive; he then asked where I was from. I
said, "I am from here, but my parents are Mexican," they said they could tell I was Hispanic"
he then asked, "Hey do you have an uncle or something that can fix concrete." I didn't
realize how offensive it was till later, and then they left a 20-dollar bill which I later figured
was fake. I was distraught that day because that was very messed up, and not only that,
assuming by asking about a family member.
Story #3
A fake Hispanic
"Hi, welcome in!" I said to them.
"Can I get a brisket sandwich with red rub fries and a drink"
said a bald, short man wearing an Addidas sweater.
"Your number will be 56, and your food will be right out; let me just have you choose an
option on top and sign at the bottom for me."
I smiled at them.
"You speak Spanish?" He proceeded to ask me
"Yes, I do. Does it look like I do?"
He says, "I can hear an accent whenever you speak, and I can tell that you speak another
language."
As I played with the iPad, I just smiled and said nothing.
"De donde eres," he said to me.
"I am from here, but my parents are Mexicans," I said to him very nicely.
He then tells his partner and says, "she's Hispanic and doesn't want to speak it"
I said politely to them, "I don't like speaking on the spot. It has to be on my own time. I
speak Spanish though I am not lying." I chuckled a little.
He then got upset and started talking to his friend and saying she was Hispanic, and she
didn't speak it, making fun of me the whole time. I still did not get out of character and did
not respond rudely, and I laughed with them instead. He told his partner that I was a fake
Hispanic and that people like me were not considered Latinos.
