Diagram

INTRODUCTION :
The cause & effect diagram is the brainchild of Kaoru Ishikawa, who
pioneered quality management processes in the Kawasaki shipyards, and
in the process became one of the founding fathers of modern
management
 The cause and effect diagram is used to explore all the potential or
real causes (or inputs) that result in a single effect (or output).
 Causes are arranged according to their level of importance or detail,
resulting in a depiction of relationships and hierarchy of events. This
can help you search for root causes, identify areas where there may be
problems, and compare the relative importance of different causes.
REPRESENTATION
fishbone diagram
 The C&E diagram is also known as the fishbone
diagram because it was drawn to resemble the
skeleton of a fish, with the main causal categories
drawn as "bones" attached to the spine of the fish,
as shown.
Fish Bone Diagram
tree diagrams
 Cause & effect diagrams can also be drawn as
tree diagrams, resembling a tree turned on its
side. From a single outcome or trunk, branches
extend that represent major categories of
inputs or causes that create that single
outcome. These large branches then lead to
smaller and smaller branches of causes all the
way down to twigs at the ends. The tree
structure has an advantage over the fishbone-
style diagram. As a fishbone diagram becomes
more and more complex, it becomes difficult to
find and compare items that are the same
distance from the effect because they are
dispersed over the diagram. With the tree
structure, all items on the same causal level
are aligned vertically.
Tree Diagram
PURPOSE
The main purpose of this diagram is to:
 Define a problem
 Identify a possible cause
 Isolate the cause
 And then Develop a solution.
 The major purpose of the CE Diagram is to act as a first
step in problem solving by generating a comprehensive list of
possible causes. It can lead to immediate identification of
major causes and point to the potential remedial actions or,
failing this, it may indicate the best potential areas for
further exploration and analysis. At a minimum, preparing a
CE Diagram will lead to greater understanding of the
problem.
Poor
performance in
inter – collegiate
cricket
Inadequate Equipments
Lack of money
Insufficient funding Low quality
Improper handling
Damage during practicing
Psychological Interventions
Management Training
Mental issue
Lack of collaborativity
Discouraging surrounding
Unsupportive family / friends
Lack of college initiative
No good sponsorship
Ineffective leadership
Improper time management
Extended college hours
Poor training
Lack of spirit & motivation
Ignoring physical fitness
Unavailability of coaches
 Lack of facilities:
For a good game you need proper training and best
quality equipments . College management committee
sometimes fails to provide their team with good facilities
which disturbs the game. Reason for this failure is less
funding and also poor sponsorship and as sponsorship
represents more support may boost the confidence and
may encourage the team as well.
 Poor training:
Insufficient practice and improper training is the major
issue for bad performance of team . This may arise due
to time mismanagement and unavailability of good
coaches which may give the right and proper training
along with useful tricks involved which help them to
tackle and overcome bad conditions .
 Team Management:
A team is known by it’s leader . A good leader manages the
team and may encourage and motivate time to time along
with helping them taking correct decisions at right time.
Also the team managing committee at times do not
support the team completely and the team lack the
support which discourages them. Along with all this there
are few interpersonal problems i.e. problems with
colleagues and thus behaviour problem which may
ultimately effect the game .
 A good quality cricket kit will always add flavour to the
game . Sports person needs to practice carefully so that
they may not harm themselves as well as they need to
maintain their kit. Lack of equipments or a bad quality will
provide roughness to the game . Thus players will be
uncomfortable with the lack of equipments. To afford all
the expenses of the team, management need to step
forward and look for sponsorship and ask the college to
raise funds so that better facilities can be provided to the
members .
To mould a person into a player and to use the best of
his abilities and build a good potential ,a well experienced
and the best coach must be hired. A coach is indeed the
building block of a team. He should train the players well.
Moreover , players must devote more time and should
focus to achieve their target.
Along with proper training players needs to stay fit both
physically and psychologically. They need a good
counselling to boost their courage and need time to time
motivation from their friends and family. Any dispute
between two players must be resolved soon before it may
harm the strength and unity of team. Moreover , team
should work collaboratively and must avoid isolation of a
player . Importance of team work should be taken care.
o We got thorough with the CE diagram and learnt about
it’s purpose and utility .
o Analysing the problem using CE diagram helped in
identification of various root causes which was really
useful in figuring out the correct solution.
o Overall we learnt a new method to analyse , represent
and solve our problem which is fruitful.
