2. It is difficult to define the term ‘state’ since it may different
meaning.
“The state is a lawful government with sovereign power of
different household and their common affairs”
3. By the term ‘sovereignty’ is meant the supreme authority within the
State.
“Sovereignty is the absolute power & perpetual power of the state, that
is, the greatest power to command”
By absolute, we mean that no higher authority exists over sovereign.
Hence rulers are not bound by the laws, they are bound by the
“contracts”.

4. It means mutual cooperation & avoidance of harm
to each other.
Preamble of the Charter of the U.N. lays down
that States shall live together in peace with one
another as good neighbours.
A state is also responsible if it causes damage to
the environment of the other states or of the areas
of beyond the jurisdiction.
5. The principle of the equality of the States means that every
state is entitled to full respect as a sovereign state by other
states.
All the sovereign states are equal in status irrespective of their
size, population, resources & other distinctive features.
