Hon'ble Justice Mr. HCJ was appointed as the chairperson of the Competition Commission of India on January 1, 2005 at age 61. According to the Competition Act of 2002, the term for a chairperson is 5 years and they are eligible for reappointment. However, no chairperson can hold the position past age 65. Therefore, since Mr. HCJ would turn 65 on December 31, 2008, he would have to retire from his position before completing his full 5-year term and would not be eligible for reappointment.

2.  Hon'ble Justice Mr. HCJ, a retired High Court Judge,
 attained age 61 years on 31st December, 2004.
 The Central Government appointed him as the chairperson of the competition
Commission of India with effect from 1st January, 2005.

3. 1. The term for which he may be appointed as chairperson of CCI?
2. Whether he can be reappointed as such & till when he can remain as a
chairperson of CCI?

4. According to section 10 (1) of the Competition Act, 2002, the chairperson and
every other member shall hold office as such for a term of five years from the
date on which he enters upon his office & shall be eligible for re-appointment.
 Provided that no chairperson or other member shall hold office as such after he
has attained the age of 65 years.

5.  According to the provisions of the Competition Act, 2002,
• The chairperson of the Competition Commission of India appointed by Central
Government for 5 years & also can be reappointed after his initial term over.
 But since Mr. HCJ shall be attaining the age of 65 years as on
• 31st December, 2008
• He will have to retire from the post on his attaining the age of 65 years.
• He wont be completing of full term of 5 years & shall not be reappointed.
