Study Abroad At Hanyang University
Hey guys! :D
Well, after much hard work I am one step away from having everything ready! (Literally... >.>)
As you might already know, I 'm going to study abroad at Hanyang University in South Korea for
this Spring 16 '!
Since this is my first blog entry I want to provide the information for those that plan or want more
information regarding such program! This program is from the University of North Texas at Denton
to Hanyang University in Seoul (Seoul Campus). Therefore, the information from this blog might
vary!
1. Knowing you want to go!~ (Aug.–Sept.)
– This step is the hardest! It will also linger for soooo long!~ (I am three weeks away from stepping
on that plane and I still have my doubts) Especially if you have never been outside for so long.... and
ALONE! (To top it off, I 've never been on a plane before!) But this is a totally okay feeling because
it 's the "unknown"! I guarantee you will be fine! If I am fine you will too! :3
2. Talking to your academic advisor!~ (Aug.–Sept.)
– This is a simple step! Make an appointment to talk to your academic advisor to see if your
graduation plan will be ok if you go study abroad for a year or a semester. (Here try to focus only
about the classes you need in order to graduate for it is VERY important! You don 't want to take
classes abroad that will mean nothing and have to graduate later because of that... ) Once you know
you have time to travel abroad take the next step!

Problems of International Students Essays
"In 2006 to 2007, according to the data compiled by the Institute of International Education,
582,984 students from all over the world were enrolled in American colleges and universities in a
wide range of fields" (Carter, Paragraph 2, 2008). The United States has the highest number of
students who are coming to study abroad than any other countries. Each year, the number of
international students coming to the United States to obtain degrees is increasing by thousands, and
home countries of these students are primarily India, China and Korea, all located in the whole
different continent. But what are the motives of students who are crossing the sea to study? Their
goal of studying abroad is to experience diversity and to adapt attitudes ... Show more content on

For me, art history discussion session is most challenging. I become very nervous the night before
the discussion and "participation grade" is the only word that pops out of my head during every
session. I start to lose confidence as I observe other students analyzing the art work perfectly.
Although participation grade is not based on correctness, I cannot stop worrying about whether what
I am thinking is right or wrong and how people are going to think of my accents. Not only do
students feel stressful in verbal context, they also face difficulties in essays. Because of their limited
vocabulary, students have hard time expressing their knowledge clearly on essay exams or research
paper, and the different format of writings preferred in American colleges and universities often
confuse international students with their native format of writings (Lin and Yi, Paragraph 7, 1997).
For example, while American writings follow a specific structure with a clear main idea, supporting
evidence and a conclusion, Eastern Asian writings don't have a specific format. Also, according to
Lin and Yi, many international students are hired as teaching assistants, and students who are
enrolled in their classes can misinterpret due to their accents or incorrect application of language.
International students face difficulties in social communication as well as academic

Semester Choice Research Paper
Explain you reasoning of semester choice. (100–200 words).
Throughout my few semesters at Susquehanna, I learned a vast majority of things that prepared me
to study abroad for a full semester. A key component I learned her was that I learned how to step out
of my comfort zone in and out of the classes. One of the classes which have done that for me was
Literary Themes. In this class I learned poetry and short stories from around the world which gave
me a history lesson on how to world functioned in the past and how it impacted them now. Literary
themes will be an essential during the fall abroad because professors may be using some of these
poetries and short stories I learned in class in their teaching. Even though classes I have taken
helped me prepare for the Go Long Programs, activities outside of classes taught me how to work
hard.

Owning a restaurant is a lot of work considering that they are so many concepts that you should
execute to make a restaurant into a success. One of the elements you should complete is to hire
workers such as chefs and waiters. While in the business, you should communicate with your
employees when something goes wrong in the business such as absences and unexpected incidents.
Another important information I should prepare is to promote the business. When starting a
restaurant, you should promote the restaurant by putting ads in the newspaper and commercials on
television. In order to obtain that position in the market, you need to understand how to execute all
these elements successfully and by experiencing doing a presentation in a foreign country I can
learn how to promote something domestically and internationally. By attending the London Program

The Motivations And Satisfaction Of Lic Students Essay
To investigate the motivations and satisfaction of LIC students when studying in the UK
Introduction
There is a prevalent trend of students going abroad for further study in the UK. In fact, the UK has
become the second most common option for overseas students to study which is just behind the
United State(King et al., 2010). According to the data from UK Council for International Student
Affairs (UKCISA) (2015), 19 percent of the students in the UK are from abroad. Studies have
shown that oversea study experience can help students improve English proficiency, gain cultural
experience, enhance individual competency, construct self–consciousness and notional
consciousness, embrace diversity, and promote the sense of responsibility (Rhodes et al., 2012).
As there are many benefits of overseas study, it is significant for the UK government and
universities to understand the motivations of international students when they decide to study in the
UK as well as the degree of satisfaction of their learning experience, so that they are able to realize
their attractions and weaknesses. In particular, for Liverpool International College, this research will
be able to give the college managers insight into the factors appealing to oversea students and then
optimize its performance. For students, it can help them prepare before departing from their origin
countries and adapt quickly to the UK courses.
The objectives of this research are:
To determine the motivations of LIC students

My Experience In My Life
Every moment of accomplishment is success and there is one event in my life that stands out above
the rest. I stood waiting in the psychiatric ward of the hospital, awaiting my father's embrace. I was
eager, but not ready to see him after months of waiting and wondering. Nevertheless, my palms
were sweaty, arms crossed, unwelcoming to the unknown. This was the first hospital that allowed
me to visit my father as a 12 year old because of safety regulations. My heart sunk as I walked into
this unfamiliar place. I immediately noticed the eerie aura of the place. The walls were lifeless with
no sign of photographs or memories––just a blank canvas of gray. It saddened me that this is where
he was staying everyday without an escape. I saw people struggling with serious mental illness:
bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and clinical depression. It was a shock to see my father amongst
patients who were clearly mentally ill. Despite my unrest with this new reality, I have found an
undeniable interest in medicine and health after seeing my dad be prescribed many combinations of
medicine trying to find the one that would counteract his mental illness.
I have taken on a compassionate role that will carry on with me into adulthood, specifically in my
career in the medical field. I've noticed that his experiences have lowered his self esteem, therefore,
I always make the effort to remind him that he is loved, understood, and needed everyday. Unique to
our situation, I find myself being

Logan Stanfield Study Abroad Analysis
Today's lecture on Study Abroad made me realize that I have been missing out on the biggest
opportunity any college student could experience. Logan Stanfield, the Study Abroad Coordinator
did an amazing job explaining this program and how great it is. He explained that there was three
common concern that every student always has which is money, language barrier, and will it slow
down my graduation? He mentioned that the cost of Studying Abroad is the same or closely to the
tuition we pay now. As well, as that our financial aid usual covers all the cost and that only on rare
occasions it does not. He explained that commuters and out of state students may pay different rates
just like they do at UNCG. The cost of health insurance will range

Essay On Advantages And Disadvantages Of Studying Abroad
If the 20th century is to be marked as the first stage of globalization, a number of trends are already
developing in the 21st century: these may consider as a new era for the world economy. This new
globalization will likely have a significant impact on the Vietnamese society. In fact, parents and
educators are increasingly concerned about the national trend towards studying abroad. They feel
that enrollment in an overseas college may provide students unique skills that could support them in
their career ladder. However, others assume that pupils should not be educated abroad because they
may lose touch with their homeland. This essay is going to state the advantages of overseas study
with supporting explanations. Globalization has come to Vietnam, despite the heralding of
increasing global competition for jobs, Vietnamese graduates supposed inadequacy absence of
international experience, language difficulties, and cross–cultural communication skills. Indeed, the

My Experience Abroad
What was the best part of your experience abroad?
I don't have enough positive words to describe my experience abroad. Being forced to adapt to a
different academic style made me grow as a student, and being exposed to different cultures has
opened me up to a world I never could have imagined. I was fortunate enough to travel to many
different European countries during my time abroad, and each one was more incredible than the last.
I think the best part of my experience abroad was living in London. I absolutely loved city life. The
tube has to be one of the world's greatest inventions, and it's incredible how small and homey such a
big place can feel when everything is easily connected.
What did you dislike about it?
Overall, my experience abroad was amazing. If I had to pick something to complain about, it would
likely be the third–party program that I was a part of. Many students, along with myself,
experienced communication issues with the program provider, and the company didn't often accept
responsibility for the mistakes that they made throughout my time abroad. That being said, these
incidents didn't affect my experience enough that I regret choosing their program. I think in the
future, I would just advise other students to ask more questions and get everything in writing to
avoid these problems.
How has your study abroad experience contributed to your development academically and
personally?

If you have ever questioned whether you should study abroad or not, don't think about it anymore.
Although I am just another senior Mexican student, I have the responsibility of telling you this

my aunt's friend of a friend, to decide that I was leaving.
So now that I am back, and I can see everything from a different outlook, the only words that I have

Universities Should Require Abroad Programs For Any Majors
Mrs. Frigge (Troy University) stated that institutions should require abroad programs for certain
majors. "If we are going to offer a Global Business degree, then how is that global when students
aren't leaving the states?" She later followed up with the idea that any major should go abroad. She
stated that some universities has even required that student do go a aboard sometime in their college
career. That they come in as a freshman and they will pay as part of their tuition each year to pay for
the abroad experience. Doing this will help with that accessibility/ affordability piece that most
students worry about. "Why not get a head start as a freshman and pay for it before it is time to
leave for the abroad program."
Loveland (2006) in the same interview earlier with President Sanford Ungar of Goucher College
mentioned that they are an institution that requires all undergraduate students to study abroad at least
once before they graduate. President Ungar suggested that many students have implied that when
they go abroad, their experiences abroad had a direct relationship to the things that they do back
here in the United States. Loveland (2006) also mentioned in her interview that President Ungar had
a run in with a student on campus one day and in that conversation with a student about going

student suggested that the local–international link is a very important part of the

COMMSA or the Communications Study Abroad Program is an opportunity everyone should be

Why I Chose To Study Abroad Program
I want to study abroad because I want to learn and explore in a different country. I realized that I
wanted to study abroad around the time that I started high school and I thought this might be the
only chance I may get to travel outside of the country. I hope to gain more insight from this amazing
opportunity and taking classes would help me in my academics and eventually professional goals.
Studying abroad would be a stepping stone for me because while I would be taking classes that
would help in my advancement in my field of study. I would also be in a country I could learn more
information about whether it be the history, the food, or exploring the beautiful places nearby.
When I started at Lesley University last fall I became really interested in finding out about the
studying abroad program. Before I officially decided where I wanted to study abroad my heart was
set on going to England, but after I did some research I became fascinated with the summer program
for Florence, Italy. The program that I will be studying through would be Lorenzo Me 'dici: The
Italian Institute they have a few different summer programs and the one that stood out the most to
me was the summer program 1. They had the classes that I would love to partake in and they have a
few excursions that are included such as Rome and Venice.

Study Abroad Could Be So Much Better Summary
Studying abroad will bring the students into a new environment where will have experiences of a
lifetime. My brother is one who came back with several great experiences. He got to see the world.
Studying abroad is a thing that will get students out of the U.S. They will be out of the area that they
most likely lived in their whole life. This experience will introduced them to a new culture that is
unique. They will be part of a completely new culture and surrounded by that culture. Too many
students only know what's in the US. Living abroad for a year will give them information about that
foreign country and also allow them to travel to what's almost a whole new world in a relatively
short trip. Countries in Europe are all close together and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A huge point in her argument is that both when a student is leaving to go the the country and when
they are coming home the student is never prepared for the cultural experience. She provides facts
about a survey that she conducted showing how few students are being prepared efficiently for the
change. She created a survey of 350 students from across the US where she said that only "one–
fourth of students were provided with any cross–cultural training before they left"(Berdan). She is
arguing that more students need to be prepared from the beginning of the experience and even when
they are going back home to the states. While this may be true that not enough students are prepared
for the change, the change that they are going through is one that is almost impossible to do
successfully. Students that study abroad would be placed into a different country with a handful of
students that are similar to them is a unique experience and something that can not be prepared for.

featuring IR topics from undergraduates across the country, and the Southern California

When one thinks of going to college, money is the first thing or lets say, a issue, that comes first to
everyone's mind. To help students get better education and facilities to better that, universities
provide different programs for students. One of such program is Study Abroad Program, here at
Iowa State University. The university provides funds for students in forms of scholarships, grants,

It is not the issue. It is shown that once people land the unknown land and make new friends that
they are indulge in the new environment that they find interesting and fascinating, they tend to feel
home and comfortable. Plus one of the gains of the study abroad is to get the practical view of the
world and be independent and see how the real world actually acts on after one bursts out of the safe
bubble made by the parents and the university to feel protected.
Being able to gain such experience and gain knowledge is a lifetime opportunity that usually change
people's life and make them realize how important education is. People gain experience in different
cultures, norms and life style. People usually figure out how less diverse their community in the
United States is to the lifestyle they experience in few months in the different country. Such
experience often changes people's career plans, and even make them forget their home for the time

In Response To The Globalization Of Superficiality Analysis
In his 2010 speech, Rev. Adolfo Nicolás, S.J., Superior General of the Society of Jesus, said "In
response to the globalization of superficiality, I suggest that we need to study the emerging cultural
world of our students more deeply and find creative ways of promoting depth of thought, and
imagination, a depth that is transformative of the person."
Fr. Nicolás is reminding us to take a step back when learning new information. He is reminding us
to stand above the flood of information we experience faster and after due to new technology. He
stresses the need for thought out information over fast information. The "globalization of
superficiality" refers to this widespread trend of disconnection between well thought out human
interaction. Father Nicolás is stressing the importance of considering sources and form our own
analyses. But his concern stretches even deeper, to the way young people are using technology to
hide from the world and connection with others. He is calling for Jesuit education to encourage
deeper evaluation and participation of life's experiences.
Computer Science is a rapidly growing field, not only in the US but all over the world. Through a
semester abroad I hope to learn more about the world as well as how CS is growing overseas. Father
Nicolás addressed how technology has increased the stresses access to information as fast as
possible, over the quality of the information.
Both through technology as my chosen field but also away from the world of zeros and ones.
Although Father Nicolás is describing technology as the driving force behind the globalization of
superficiality, I want my experience abroad to increase how I use my information to expand my
depth of thought and imagination and use my computer skills to help others do so too. Father
Nicolás mentions a "pedagogy" of Ignatian contemplation, how Ignatius asked us to look at all our
senses when responding to a new experience. I can employ this method to my new experiences
while studying abroad, in my studies toward my major and in exposure to another culture. Father
Nicolás is reminding us to "stop and smell the roses" when experiencing new things, to take time to
connect with others and our present surroundings. I fully intend

Should Students Get Their Education Abroad?
Should Students Get Their Education Abroad? It is predicted that 4.1 million pupils are getting their
education abroad (Staines, 3013). Students who are concerned about having a better future will
choose to have a better education. Thus, they want to improve their knowledge through studying in
developed countries. However, some researches has shown that a lot of people don 't like the idea of
international education. Circumstantial causes, security and prices worries and other personal
aspects are reasons why some people don 't prefer the idea of international education. In my opinion,
I think students should get external education because it will lead a better job, increase students '
creativity, and obtain better learning of English.
Leading a better job is one of the reason why students should get their study abroad. Those students
who get their education outside have the tendency to be clearer about the life and career decisions
they want. Furthermore, studying abroad will provide students with a particular attitude toward their
scholastic job. Moreover, student could gain a personal growth through their adventure abroad. New
abilities are obtained from living outside like responsibility and self–reliance. According to Martin
Tillman (2011, p.2), a president at global career compass, in "AJFS students guide to study abroad
and career development", international education may lead to a better understanding of career
decisions, and better attitude on actions following

Thus, to get a good knowledge we should go to class regularly and study clearly. At the university,

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Studying Abroad
In the last century, the contemporary world has become more globalized than before. There has been
a worldwide integration in different fields of life such as economic, political, business, trade,
financial, and educational fields. In order to deal with this globalization, students, in all over the
world, should be opened to other countries and cultures which exceed the boundary of their nation.
Studying abroad, which means leaving the homeland country and pursuing the education in another
country ( Dervin&Byron, 2008), could be one of the ways for the students to explore this globalized
world. It has been mentioned by the Institute of International Education (IIE) that in the last two
decades the number of students studying abroad worldwide has tripled (Lieb, 2016). Should students

Their point of view is that it is hard for these students to be responsible for arranging money for
university's tuition fees and for their living expenses. Although that is correct to a certain extent,
there are some weaknesses in this view. Firstly, students who have the intention to study abroad
would put a prior financial plan with their parents. That helps them to know their budget, and to
spend money according to it. Also, if there are some unexpected circumstances happen, they will be
assisted financially by their parents. Secondly, some universities and schools provide full or partial
scholarships for the international students (Cadd,2012). For example, University of British
Columbia offers scholarships and other forms of financial aid for international students. Thirdly,
many students can work part–time jobs while studying to earn money. That will help them to cover
their personal expenses (Tyner,2013). There are many jobs that these students can work such as

Persuasive Essay About Study Abroad
You may be among those asking this question: why study abroad? Simply because you feel you
don't have enough money to study abroad. There are many benefits of studying abroad; even though
you might not have the study abroad opportunities other rich men kids have. Getting admission into
American universities is not hard, if you have the requirements for the program you would like to
study. Scholarships to study abroad for undergraduates are also available, but the scholarships for
international students are hard to come by. If you have funding from home, how to manage the
finances is always hard.
Managing finances is the hardest things if you are studying abroad. You have a new overall
economy, with new currency and other pricing methods.
If you think that living and studying abroad is a next step closer of becoming an adult, then you
should perceive money management as your initiation process in that direction.
It involves self–awareness, persistence and a great deal of personal restraint.
So, we have provided these 5 best tips on how to improve your money management when studying
abroad and avoid distressful situations like borrowing money or sitting at home with no plans for
weekend as a result of lack of money.
Make a budget
This is probably the most important thing when you're a students studying abroad. You need to
know how much money you've got over a time period. Include everything that one could think of
simply because this will reduce the chances of unexpected spending.
First, you will have to become accustomed with the local currency and the exchange rates. Do not
compare your domestic prices using the prices abroad. Rather, try knowing the general standard in
the city you are residing and convert the currency in your head. If everything becomes easier for
you, you could make a subscription plan that shows the equivalence relating to the 2 currencies (for
example 10 USD =? 10 euro =?)
This is necessary while studying abroad because at first spending money won't feel like "real
money" in your head. This is true especially during the time of inflation is very big and you happen
to keep bills of hundreds and even thousands around you. For instance, $10 is equivalent to 3,600
Nigerian Naira.

Descriptive Essay In English
Nostalgie. Forward then back and out, the sound travels across my tongue. Reminiscent of times
past, it rolls and flows breathlessly, effortlessly. I am mesmerized. The French tongue captivates my
interest, resonates with my being–my favorite word in this beautiful language.
怀旧的 (huáijiù de). This word is home. I grew up surrounded by characters. They taught me the
beauty of words. They taught me the power of art, calligraphy, and perseverance. They showed me
the power and effect of language on culture. As my first foreign tongue, it stays with me and
changes as I do. 懐かしい (natsukashii). A bittersweet feeling. Longing yet loving, reminiscent yet
it is tinged with sadness. Hearing your favorite childhood song. Revisiting your old elementary
school. Seeing your first love pass by. It is strong and thought invoking. A sentimental feeling that
cannot be captured in English.
Nostalgia. My mind dreams in English, it twists and turns, adding in French and Chinese, with
dashes of Japanese sprinkled through. My memories are spun through a code of my own personal
language. English is my first, my best, but it is not my only.
These four words hold similar meanings. Dictionaries define them, but the purest connotation lies
within the speakers. All these words hold their own meanings, to me and the world. My language is
mixed. My vocabulary is vast. I do not limit myself to one, because truly conveying the human spirit
needs many. Each language brings its own vocabulary,

Describe An Intercultural Experience
In no more than 250 words, describe an intercultural experience (international or within the U.S.)
and include what you learned from this experience.
Truthfully, while I've interacted with many different people from many different cultures I haven't
yet had the opportunity to dive deep enough to truly call them experiences. Though I've had small
exchanges of culture with others, such as making authentic dumplings in cooking club and meeting
people from all over the world at Michigan, I'm excited by the possibility of going to a new country
and completely immersing myself in their way of life.
Besides the small instances of cultural exchange at Michigan, the largest intercultural experience
I've had is the time I went to my friend Niharika's traditional Indian graduation party. While we've
been friends since middle school, our lives often seemed very similar to each other. It wasn't until I
attended her graduation party that I understood how much our difference of cultures impacted parts

While researching study abroad opportunities, I noticed that there are many crossovers between the
process for studying abroad and the engineering design process, all of which will be extremely
important throughout my career. For example, the application process for studying abroad is very
similar to an engineering project proposal, in that they both explain why this project (studying

have to create a budget for myself, and procure funding for my trip, much as engineers must do for

Advantages to Studying Abroad
Education is a never–ending learning process that has always been a piece of our life. As education
is a building block in our lives, we are eager to put profoundly into our education. Good education
will lead us to the bright future. With the fast advancement of public opinion, we have entered an era
of information explosion which the necessity of studying abroad has turned into a developing
pattern among youth. Most of the students feel that studying abroad is better than studying in local
universities. As the saying goes, "the grass always looks greener on the other side of fence." In this
way, I believe that considering abroad have extraordinary points of benefits.
First and foremost, from personal angle, study abroad enables students to achieve high level of
maturity and independence very quick. This is because they are being away from their support
network like families. It may seem daunting but in the other hand it is actually a precious chance for
the students to sharp their own skill and gain some independence. For instance, they have to buy the
groceries by themselves which maybe it is their first time doing so. Students also have to deal with
many problems when they study abroad like adapting to the new environments and lifestyle. So
from here, they have learnt how to deal with problems. Apart from that, study abroad may also
rapidly advance the student's language skills especially English. Being surrounded with the native

Influence on College, Study Abroad Programs
Introduction This nonexperimental study is examining the influence on college, study abroad
programs and the influence on "environmental citizenship," (Tarrant & Lyons, 2012, p. 201) in
undergraduate college students. The literature review provided adequate background and previous
studies to support the purpose of this study. The literature review does lead to the clearly stated
research purpose of "exploring the effect of previous study abroad experience, gender, and
destination on pre– and post–levels of environmental citizenship, before and after participation in a
short–term...travel program to Australia or New Zealand" (Tarrant & Lyons, p. 408). There were no

In regards to selection threat, there was no random selection or random assignment. Students chose
to travel and chose their destination. There is also a threat to instrumentation, as two different
surveys were used to measure student perceptions. A final threat to internal validity may be in the
area of history. Students may have different experiences during their one–month abroad. Threats to
validity were minimal in regards to attrition (no indication students dropped out; but even so there
was a large number of students included in the survey), statistical regression (students not grouped
by extremes or specific characteristics), or maturation (participants to be perceived as having same
physical and mental development). Extraneous variables such as socioeconomic status, perceived
study abroad experience, previous travel experience, attitudes towards surveys, and experience with
topics of sustainability were not controlled by the researchers. There is no indication that study
participants were treated unethically.
Results
There appears to be appropriate use and calculation of t–tests in areas of study abroad experience,
program destination, and gender. There was no calculation of effect sizes. The results were
presented clearly. There was no data ignored in the areas the researchers identified at the onset of the
study. This nonexperimental study with nonrandom selection is not generalizable.

Studying Abroad Creates Better Students Essays
Studying abroad creates better students
There have always been various matters of concern in our modern society, and one topical issue is
studying abroad. According to Scott (1998), studying overseas has become a global trend, especially
in English – speaking countries. As a matter of fact, when people's standards of living improve, they
often think about increasing their knowledge so they could have a better life. To do that, they are
eager to study for higher education (i.e: university education) overseas. However, everything has its
advantages and disadvantages, and studying abroad is not an exception. To my way of thinking, the
advantages of studying abroad far outweigh the disadvantages. This essay is divided into 3 parts.

In addition, people often grow up thinking that their way of doing things is the only way or
sometimes the best way, but living in a new culture helps students realize new way of solving
problems, which make them feel more confident when facing all types of problems. What is more,
students have to learn to take care of themselves. Students may do things they have not done in their
home countries. These include cooking, cleaning, washing clothes, figuring out transportation,
making living arrangement, organizing their lives independently, and so on. Overwhelming majority
of international students go back home and they proud that they have become very self–sufficient.
Students also have the opportunity to make life–long friends, whereby they get in touch with many
new cultures. Jason Thornberg (IES Vienna 1994) wrote that the friendships he had made in Vienna,
with both Americans and Viennese, remained some of his most cherished relationships. In other
words, when exposed to a different societal and educational context, international students are
constantly engaged in a reflexive process of change, adjustment and development through
interaction with other people in the host educational and societal environment.
A big disadvantage of studying abroad can be cost. Kaweck (2012) stated that depending on the
country and the university which students are planning to

A Short Term Study Abroad
In the Fall of 2015, when I first arrived at Rutgers I set numerous goals for myself. One of these
goals was to excel in my studies in order to allow myself to gain real life experience and knowledge
while studying abroad. After doing serious research, I had confidence that The GREEN Program
was the perfect short term study abroad experience to excel my professional career, and academic
growth amongst other like–minded individuals from universities around the country and the world.
After applying, acceptance, and a semester of figuring out the workings of Rutgers' registration,
study abroad, and financial aid departments. I was able to secure the financing and degree credit
approval necessary to participate in the 9–day spring break program in Cusco, Peru.
Prior to this trip I had never been out of the country, so after expediting my passport, securing my
flights, filling out all the necessary paperwork, and making full payment, I was sent a package of
mandatory pre–program educational material. This included useful information on The Sustainable
Development Goals, the importance of self–motivation, collective evolution & agents of change,
overcoming adversity, thought leadership, future trends, and entrepreneurship. The combination of
different articles, academic material, short videos, and TED talks all seem to coordinate perfectly
with what I've been learning in my environmental policy, institutions and behavior curriculum.

Should Students Study Abroad?
Should Students Study Abroad? If you had a chance to get your dream job at a prestigious high tech
workplace in the country, would you go for it? If you choose not to study abroad, you are choosing
to commit career sabotage and saying goodbye to your job prospects. The phenomena of students
leaving their home country to continue their studies else where is continuing to increase over the
years. Even though many people disagree with studying abroad, claiming that it has many
disadvantages, researchers are concluding that students that study abroad improve their academic
performance and career opportunities. The Erasmus Programme (European Region Action Scheme
for the Mobility of University Students) student exchange programme states, "survey results indicate
that 92% of employers are looking for personality traits found to be enhanced by study or training
abroad, such as tolerance, confidence, problem–solving skills, curiosity, knowing one's
strengths/weaknesses, and decisiveness" (ICEF). By studying abroad, I believe that high school or
college aged students will increase cultural understanding, learn other languages, and gain skills and
experience that will help them achieve their career and educational goals.
In order to increase cultural understanding, I believe that it's important to view foreign cultures
hands–on with our own eyes, and to meet and interact with the people who live there. This is so

Many universities in America have lectures taught in English. People who do not have this language

requirements for studying abroad include certain points requirements in IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge

International Baccalaureate, which is issued upon completion of numerous courses that include

individual has studied English in an English–speaking nation or a tertiary institution where English

of learning that qualifies one as proficient in the English language. In my case, I studied English at

Here is a 194-word reflection on your experience visiting your father in the psychiatric ward:This was undoubtedly one of the most impactful experiences of my life. As a 12-year old, visiting my father in the psychiatric ward was deeply unsettling yet eye-opening. Stepping into that sterile, gray environment filled with patients experiencing serious mental illness was jarring. I was saddened to think of my father confined there daily without escape. Seeing him amongst those clearly struggling with conditions like bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and severe depression was difficult to process. It was clear this was no place for long-term living. At the same time, my desire to see him after months of separation outweighed my discomfort with

  • 3. Study Abroad At Hanyang University Hey guys! :D Well, after much hard work I am one step away from having everything ready! (Literally... >.>) As you might already know, I 'm going to study abroad at Hanyang University in South Korea for this Spring 16 '! Since this is my first blog entry I want to provide the information for those that plan or want more information regarding such program! This program is from the University of North Texas at Denton to Hanyang University in Seoul (Seoul Campus). Therefore, the information from this blog might vary! 1. Knowing you want to go!~ (Aug.–Sept.) – This step is the hardest! It will also linger for soooo long!~ (I am three weeks away from stepping on that plane and I still have my doubts) Especially if you have never been outside for so long.... and ALONE! (To top it off, I 've never been on a plane before!) But this is a totally okay feeling because it 's the "unknown"! I guarantee you will be fine! If I am fine you will too! :3 2. Talking to your academic advisor!~ (Aug.–Sept.) – This is a simple step! Make an appointment to talk to your academic advisor to see if your graduation plan will be ok if you go study abroad for a year or a semester. (Here try to focus only about the classes you need in order to graduate for it is VERY important! You don 't want to take classes abroad that will mean nothing and have to graduate later because of that... ) Once you know you have time to travel abroad take the next step! 3. Problems of International Students Essays "In 2006 to 2007, according to the data compiled by the Institute of International Education, 582,984 students from all over the world were enrolled in American colleges and universities in a wide range of fields" (Carter, Paragraph 2, 2008). The United States has the highest number of students who are coming to study abroad than any other countries. Each year, the number of international students coming to the United States to obtain degrees is increasing by thousands, and home countries of these students are primarily India, China and Korea, all located in the whole different continent. But what are the motives of students who are crossing the sea to study? Their goal of studying abroad is to experience diversity and to adapt attitudes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For me, art history discussion session is most challenging. I become very nervous the night before the discussion and "participation grade" is the only word that pops out of my head during every session. I start to lose confidence as I observe other students analyzing the art work perfectly. Although participation grade is not based on correctness, I cannot stop worrying about whether what I am thinking is right or wrong and how people are going to think of my accents. Not only do students feel stressful in verbal context, they also face difficulties in essays. Because of their limited vocabulary, students have hard time expressing their knowledge clearly on essay exams or research paper, and the different format of writings preferred in American colleges and universities often confuse international students with their native format of writings (Lin and Yi, Paragraph 7, 1997). For example, while American writings follow a specific structure with a clear main idea, supporting evidence and a conclusion, Eastern Asian writings don't have a specific format. Also, according to Lin and Yi, many international students are hired as teaching assistants, and students who are enrolled in their classes can misinterpret due to their accents or incorrect application of language. • 7. Semester Choice Research Paper Explain you reasoning of semester choice. (100–200 words). Throughout my few semesters at Susquehanna, I learned a vast majority of things that prepared me to study abroad for a full semester. A key component I learned her was that I learned how to step out of my comfort zone in and out of the classes. One of the classes which have done that for me was Literary Themes. In this class I learned poetry and short stories from around the world which gave me a history lesson on how to world functioned in the past and how it impacted them now. Literary themes will be an essential during the fall abroad because professors may be using some of these poetries and short stories I learned in class in their teaching. Even though classes I have taken helped me prepare for the Go Long Programs, activities outside of classes taught me how to work hard. Owning a restaurant is a lot of work considering that they are so many concepts that you should execute to make a restaurant into a success. One of the elements you should complete is to hire workers such as chefs and waiters. While in the business, you should communicate with your employees when something goes wrong in the business such as absences and unexpected incidents. Another important information I should prepare is to promote the business. When starting a restaurant, you should promote the restaurant by putting ads in the newspaper and commercials on television. In order to obtain that position in the market, you need to understand how to execute all these elements successfully and by experiencing doing a presentation in a foreign country I can learn how to promote something domestically and internationally. • 9. The Motivations And Satisfaction Of Lic Students Essay To investigate the motivations and satisfaction of LIC students when studying in the UK Introduction There is a prevalent trend of students going abroad for further study in the UK. In fact, the UK has become the second most common option for overseas students to study which is just behind the United State(King et al., 2010). According to the data from UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA) (2015), 19 percent of the students in the UK are from abroad. Studies have shown that oversea study experience can help students improve English proficiency, gain cultural experience, enhance individual competency, construct self–consciousness and notional consciousness, embrace diversity, and promote the sense of responsibility (Rhodes et al., 2012). As there are many benefits of overseas study, it is significant for the UK government and universities to understand the motivations of international students when they decide to study in the UK as well as the degree of satisfaction of their learning experience, so that they are able to realize their attractions and weaknesses. In particular, for Liverpool International College, this research will be able to give the college managers insight into the factors appealing to oversea students and then optimize its performance. For students, it can help them prepare before departing from their origin countries and adapt quickly to the UK courses. The objectives of this research are: To determine the motivations of LIC students ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. My Experience In My Life Every moment of accomplishment is success and there is one event in my life that stands out above the rest. I stood waiting in the psychiatric ward of the hospital, awaiting my father's embrace. I was eager, but not ready to see him after months of waiting and wondering. Nevertheless, my palms were sweaty, arms crossed, unwelcoming to the unknown. This was the first hospital that allowed me to visit my father as a 12 year old because of safety regulations. My heart sunk as I walked into this unfamiliar place. I immediately noticed the eerie aura of the place. The walls were lifeless with no sign of photographs or memories––just a blank canvas of gray. It saddened me that this is where he was staying everyday without an escape. I saw people struggling with serious mental illness: bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and clinical depression. It was a shock to see my father amongst patients who were clearly mentally ill. Despite my unrest with this new reality, I have found an undeniable interest in medicine and health after seeing my dad be prescribed many combinations of medicine trying to find the one that would counteract his mental illness. I have taken on a compassionate role that will carry on with me into adulthood, specifically in my career in the medical field. I've noticed that his experiences have lowered his self esteem, therefore, I always make the effort to remind him that he is loved, understood, and needed everyday. He mentioned that the cost of Studying Abroad is the same or closely to the tuition we pay now. As well, as that our financial aid usual covers all the cost and that only on rare occasions it does not. I first heard about this program through my Bridge Peer Advisor when she was talking about the trip she had gone on. Essay On Advantages And Disadvantages Of Studying Abroad If the 20th century is to be marked as the first stage of globalization, a number of trends are already developing in the 21st century: these may consider as a new era for the world economy. This new globalization will likely have a significant impact on the Vietnamese society. In fact, parents and educators are increasingly concerned about the national trend towards studying abroad. • 21. My Experience Abroad What was the best part of your experience abroad? I don't have enough positive words to describe my experience abroad. Being forced to adapt to a different academic style made me grow as a student, and being exposed to different cultures has opened me up to a world I never could have imagined. I was fortunate enough to travel to many different European countries during my time abroad, and each one was more incredible than the last. I think the best part of my experience abroad was living in London. I absolutely loved city life. The tube has to be one of the world's greatest inventions, and it's incredible how small and homey such a big place can feel when everything is easily connected. What did you dislike about it? Overall, my experience abroad was amazing. If I had to pick something to complain about, it would likely be the third–party program that I was a part of. Many students, along with myself, experienced communication issues with the program provider, and the company didn't often accept responsibility for the mistakes that they made throughout my time abroad. That being said, these incidents didn't affect my experience enough that I regret choosing their program. I think in the future, I would just advise other students to ask more questions and get everything in writing to avoid these problems. "If we are going to offer a Global Business degree, then how is that global when students aren't leaving the states?" She later followed up with the idea that any major should go abroad. She stated that some universities has even required that student do go a aboard sometime in their college career. That they come in as a freshman and they will pay as part of their tuition each year to pay for the abroad experience. Doing this will help with that accessibility/ affordability piece that most students worry about. "Why not get a head start as a freshman and pay for it before it is time to leave for the abroad program." Loveland (2006) in the same interview earlier with President Sanford Ungar of Goucher College mentioned that they are an institution that requires all undergraduate students to study abroad at least once before they graduate. President Ungar suggested that many students have implied that when they go abroad, their experiences abroad had a direct relationship to the things that they do back here in the United States. Loveland (2006) also mentioned in her interview that President Ungar had a run in with a student on campus one day and in that conversation with a student about going abroad that what she learned overseas was helpful to the work and community engagement. • 27. Scholarship Application Essay for a Study Abroad Program Today I am a very successful student at Albany State University. I am a Presidential Scholarship recipient, holding a 3.6 Grade Point Average and a member of the Velma Fudge Grant Honors Program. As a second semester junior, I am proud to say I have remained on the Dean's List since I arrived on campus. Aside from my academics, I am very active on campus. As a Social Work major, I work diligently with the Students Social Work Association as an advocate for social policy and justice. Through this organization I have accumulated over three hundred hours of community outreach and volunteerism. In 2013, I served as the organization's queen, receiving the title Ms. SSWA. More recently I have become a Global Ambassador for the university's Study Abroad Global Program. Looking at my achievements, I would have never imagined myself as a prosperous college student. For most of my life I had been considered a statistic. My mother gave birth to me out of wedlock with a father I have never met and I am an African American minority who comes from poverty. These two aspects of my life analytically put me at a higher risk to conceive children during my adolescent years and to continue a cycle of poverty. Coming from a low income neighborhood that resided on the border of two local gangs, I believed these types of studies. I thought that my future would be bleak. I felt torn down by society's self–fulfilling prophecy of my outcomes. Things really hit home when I witnessed my cousin's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Being able to study in a foreign country gives students the chance to see differences in how they receive an education verse the new location they are studying in. San Jose State University is a huge supporter of students having this opportunity and even has uniquely styled programs made specifically for the Communications department. The study abroad program page on our SJSU website shows students two options that are specifically for Communication students for the summer of 2018, students could experience places like Jyväskylä, Finland or Berlin Germany, this is only the start of places that are offered to students. The Jyväskylä, Finland and Beijing, China trips are currently on hold, so if a student wanted to get a better understanding of what the Communications department is offering for a study abroad program the Berlin, Germany trip could most likely answer some of their questions. The trip runs from June 11–29th in the summer of 2018, and has a focus of enlightening people on the city's dark past but seemingly bright future. This trip is designed to show students WWII memorials and how the people of Berlin are constantly trying to deal with their hard past, but also exploring the local spots were citizens are trying to create sustainable living and "greener" lifestyles. • 31. Why I Chose To Study Abroad Program I want to study abroad because I want to learn and explore in a different country. I realized that I wanted to study abroad around the time that I started high school and I thought this might be the only chance I may get to travel outside of the country. I hope to gain more insight from this amazing opportunity and taking classes would help me in my academics and eventually professional goals. Studying abroad would be a stepping stone for me because while I would be taking classes that would help in my advancement in my field of study. I would also be in a country I could learn more information about whether it be the history, the food, or exploring the beautiful places nearby. When I started at Lesley University last fall I became really interested in finding out about the studying abroad program. Before I officially decided where I wanted to study abroad my heart was set on going to England, but after I did some research I became fascinated with the summer program for Florence, Italy. The program that I will be studying through would be Lorenzo Me 'dici: The Italian Institute they have a few different summer programs and the one that stood out the most to me was the summer program 1. • 33. Study Abroad Could Be So Much Better Summary Studying abroad will bring the students into a new environment where will have experiences of a lifetime. My brother is one who came back with several great experiences. He got to see the world. Studying abroad is a thing that will get students out of the U.S. They will be out of the area that they most likely lived in their whole life. This experience will introduced them to a new culture that is unique. They will be part of a completely new culture and surrounded by that culture. Too many students only know what's in the US. Living abroad for a year will give them information about that foreign country and also allow them to travel to what's almost a whole new world in a relatively short trip. A huge point in her argument is that both when a student is leaving to go the the country and when they are coming home the student is never prepared for the cultural experience. She provides facts about a survey that she conducted showing how few students are being prepared efficiently for the change. She created a survey of 350 students from across the US where she said that only "one– fourth of students were provided with any cross–cultural training before they left"(Berdan). She is arguing that more students need to be prepared from the beginning of the experience and even when they are going back home to the states. While this may be true that not enough students are prepared for the change, the change that they are going through is one that is almost impossible to do successfully. Students that study abroad would be placed into a different country with a handful of students that are similar to them is a unique experience and something that can not be prepared for. • 39. In Response To The Globalization Of Superficiality Analysis In his 2010 speech, Rev. Adolfo Nicolás, S.J., Superior General of the Society of Jesus, said "In response to the globalization of superficiality, I suggest that we need to study the emerging cultural world of our students more deeply and find creative ways of promoting depth of thought, and imagination, a depth that is transformative of the person." Fr. Nicolás is reminding us to take a step back when learning new information. He is reminding us to stand above the flood of information we experience faster and after due to new technology. He stresses the need for thought out information over fast information. The "globalization of superficiality" refers to this widespread trend of disconnection between well thought out human interaction. Father Nicolás is stressing the importance of considering sources and form our own analyses. But his concern stretches even deeper, to the way young people are using technology to hide from the world and connection with others. He is calling for Jesuit education to encourage deeper evaluation and participation of life's experiences. Computer Science is a rapidly growing field, not only in the US but all over the world. Through a semester abroad I hope to learn more about the world as well as how CS is growing overseas. Father Nicolás addressed how technology has increased the stresses access to information as fast as possible, over the quality of the information. Both through technology as my chosen field but also away from the world of zeros and ones. Although Father Nicolás is describing technology as the driving force behind the globalization of superficiality, I want my experience abroad to increase how I use my information to expand my depth of thought and imagination and use my computer skills to help others do so too. Father Nicolás mentions a "pedagogy" of Ignatian contemplation, how Ignatius asked us to look at all our senses when responding to a new experience. I can employ this method to my new experiences while studying abroad, in my studies toward my major and in exposure to another culture. Father Nicolás is reminding us to "stop and smell the roses" when experiencing new things, to take time to connect with others and our present surroundings. I fully intend ...
