Roosevelt Corollary
What character(s) are in the cartoon:
The Big Stick in the Caribbean Sea cartoon, I see Theodore Roosevelt carrying a big stick, walking
prideful while pulling away ships that say "Debt Collector, The Sheriff, The Receiver" from Latin
America. I also see many birds flying over the Caribbean Sea and Latin America territories.
What symbols and actions does the artist employ in the cartoon:
The birds represent Germany and Great Britain, and the ships represent the United States Naval. The
big stick is an ideology of "speak softly and carry a big stick" (as cited in Morgan, 1919, p. 216),
that is well known as "Roosevelt Corollary." The artist expresses the intervention that President
Roosevelt acted as the police flexing his muscles and standing up against the Europeans from
invading Venezuela for repayment matters.
What issues does the cartoon raise:
It increases protection, authority, power ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the event of the cartoon, President Roosevelt sent American Naval so that the Europeans can calm
and negotiate and back away. President Roosevelt goal was to protect the "relations between the
Western Hemisphere and Europe, but it did serve as justification for U.S. intervention in Cuba,
Nicaragua, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic" (Roosevelt Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine, 1904,
n.d.). After the incident, United States was appreciated and looked up to

Differences And Similarities Between Roosevelt And...
Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Theodore Roosevelt are very influential individuals in the political
development of the United States of America and are key to the history of the US. There are several
differences and similarities between Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Theodore Roosevelt.
Franklin Delano Roosevelt [FDR], was a Democrat and the 32nd President of the United States. The
Democrats nominated Franklin Roosevelt as their candidate for president in 1932 against the
incumbent Hoover. Roosevelt was elected in a landslide victory in part due to his platform called
"The New Deal". ( He won a record of four presidential elections. He is often recognized for going
into office at a time of turmoil in the nation. FDR assumed his presidency ... Show more content on

He is well known for his temperament, interests, and achievements. Although there were no wars at
the time, his slogan was reinforced by sending the expanded US Navy and the Great White Fleet on
a world tour. "TR negotiated an end to the Russo–Japanese War, for which he won the Nobel Peace
Prize. Theodore Roosevelts presidency ended the Gilded Age." (Solheim, Bruce, 21–22) "Not only
had Roosevelt alienated big business, he was also attacking both the judiciary and the deep faith
Republicans had in their judges (most of whom had been appointed by McKinley, Roosevelt or
Taft.) In the 1910 Congressional elections, Democrats swept to power, and Taft's reelection in 1912
was increasingly in doubt." (Blum, John Morton, 252).
When comparing these two presidents, it is vitally important to first of all highlight that both
presidents were without any doubts, great personalities and they by right, occupy their places on the
historical pages of the development of the US. They both were concerned with the interests of the
people and they did their best to help them go through the difficult times

Impacts Of Theodore Roosevelt
Impacts of Theodore Roosevelt and his everlasting legacy Theodore Roosevelt was much more than
the 26th President of the United States of America. Much more than the 33rd Governor of New
York. He was an individual that showed all the attributes and competencies of a true legacy leader.
This paper will illustrate how Theodore Roosevelt's character, presence, and intellect truly made him
an Army professional. Theodore Roosevelt was a leader and a scholar that has truly molded my
military career and contributed immensely to my personal growth.
Character
One's leadership style is affected by an individual's character. Having the ability to do what is right
even when no one is around. Army values, empathy, warrior ethos, and discipline are the building
blocks of strong character. I will never quit is one of the four warrior ethos that Theodore Roosevelt
embraced. This characteristic trait helped as a small child being born with debilitating asthma.
Although growing up he never let this slow him down. Roosevelt's father would take him on hikes
in the Alps growing up. After numerous occasions, Roosevelt found that he could keep up with his
father. This instilled in him the knowledge that physical exercise is important and to have the
discipline to never quit. As a leader, I take simple instances like this so that I can use to mold the
newer generation of Soldiers that or in our ranks. Mentoring these young Soldiers on the importance
of the Army Values. Giving them the

Throughout the 19th century and early 20th century, expansionism was very prevalent throughout
the United States. The only setback was differing opinions on the subject matter. It was widely
believed that the United States was destined to expand across and around North America and its
neighboring lands while others believed it would be wrong to try and take the land from countries
that already had control over them. Important historical figures such as Theodore Roosevelt and
William Graham Sumner are prime examples of American citizens who had conflicting beliefs on
this topic. For these two prominent men, they each had their own opinion on whether the United
States should or should not acquire land under Spanish control. They voiced these opinions to show
why and how their belief would be better for America and all her citizens. Sumner's his beliefs can
be seen in his Speech "The Conquest of The United States by Spain" whereas Roosevelt's can be
seen in his collection of Essays known as "The Strenuous Life: Essays and Addresses." Theodore
Roosevelt was a proponent for acquisition of Spanish territories abroad and this can be seen in a
passage from his Address titled "The Strenuous Life" The main arguments that Roosevelt is trying to
make in his paper is that America was built by those who were strong, hard–working, and not afraid
to advance the nation through war and that if America is so great, it must play a large part in the
world. He states that it is both important

considered one of the world's most influential women was born. Eleanor Roosevelt was born in New
York to her parents Anna Hall Roosevelt and Elliot Roosevelt. With her blue eyes and light brown
hair, she would warm the heart of every individual she came across. She grew to be five feet and
eleven inches, which to this day makes her the tallest first lady. With regards of being the first lady

would damage his and her new political career. She was also concerned for the well being of her
children. Eleanor said, "It is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness." In my
perspective, I whole–heartedly concur with this quote because she sacrificed herself rather than to
sacrifice her family. She was willing to stay in a marriage that didn't even suit her just because she
put others before herself. Putting all of their differences aside, she still stood by his side as a normal
first lady. This represents her strong quality and character as a powerful woman. Eleanor was
admired for her idealism and good spirits. Many individuals benefited from her warm
humanitarianism and deep concern for the world. Being that she had great work ethic and wise
counsel she devoted most of her time to charity work. In 1902 in New York City, she participated in
community service projects all over the Manhattan Lower East Side. Her passion for learning and
teaching went to a settlement home with needy children. During this time she taught dancing,
literature and calisthenics. She visited needy children in the slums and investigated working
conditions in garment factories and department stores. During World War One, Eleanor worked for
the Navy Marine Corps Relief Society and American Red Cross. She helped aid wounded and dying

Teddy Roosevelt believed that we all shall not be separated or treated differently from other people ,
race or religion because no matter what we are the same species. Samuel Gompers believed that
make workers reform also make the country be divided. In 1906 Teddy Roosevelt won the Nobel
Peace Prize for his role by negotiating during the Russian and Japanese war. Teddy believed that we
should be securing all ports belonging to the United States alo have great military power also he
believed in most helpful things that has to deal with America . what we need is freedom what we
need is peace what we need is to get along with one another also stop being discriminate to other we
need is to build a friendship to the whole community and the world. Teddy thought that if he made
more work restrictions it could reduce the illnesses in the workforce while Gomber did not believe
any of these are necessarily. Gomber believed that the rules and regulation shall not be as strict as
Theodore Roosevelt thought but Gomber believed the less restrictions equals more money going
into their businesses.in 1902 Teddy Roosevelt used a third party settling the 1902 coal miners strike

The first lady that I have chosen is Eleanor Roosevelt. She was a great wife, mother, friend, and first
lady of the United States. She was also young once like most of everyone. She did many things over
the years she was alive. She had a husband which was a distant relative; also she had six children.
Eleanor Roosevelt was born in New York City on October 11, 1884. She was also the niece of
Theodore Roosevelt. After her mother died in 1892, her and her 3 siblings went to live with
Grandmother Hall; her adored father died two years later. When Eleanor was 15 she attended a
distinguished school in England; it was her first chance to gain more self–confidence among other
girls.

Roosevelt, Theodore (1858–1919), 26th president of the United States (1901–09), the first president
to exploit the public dimensions of his office in an age of mass communications, a reform leader at

for the country's youth, in a way that no public figure has matched. He was one of the most popular
presidents in American history. The son of a wealthy, socially prominent merchant, Roosevelt was
born in New York City on October 27, 1858. He was educated by private tutors and studied at

Territory, which began his identification with the Wild West. He continued to write histories,
biographies, and magazine articles, producing more than a dozen books between 1880 and 1900.
Back in politics in 1886, he ran unsuccessfully for mayor of New York City, campaigned for the
national Republican ticket in 1888, and served as Civil Service commissioner in Washington, D.C.,
from 1889 to 1895. From 1895 to 1897, Roosevelt renewed political ties and enhanced his fame
with his energetic, reform–minded service as New York City's police commissioner. After
campaigning for his party's national ticket again in 1896, he became assistant secretary of the navy
and worked to expand and modernize the navy and get the United States into war with Spain over
Cuba. War Hero and Vice President The Spanish–American War made Roosevelt a nationally known
figure. His volunteer cavalry regiment, which included both cowboys and aristocrats like himself,
was dubbed the Rough Riders and received extensive press coverage. Their charge at the Battle of
San Juan Hill in Cuba (July 1898) was the most celebrated exploit of the war. Roosevelt became a
popular hero overnight, and his favorite nickname for the rest of his life was the Colonel. He reaped

Franklin Delano Roosevelt Vs. Franklin Roosevelt
Franklin Delano Roosevelt was conceived on January 30, 1882, into an affluent gang. The
Roosevelts had been unmistakable for a few eras, having made their fortune in land and exchange.
Franklin was the main offspring of James Roosevelt and Sara Ann Delano Roosevelt. The family
inhabited Springwood, their domain in the Hudson River Valley in New York State. While growing
up, Franklin Roosevelt was encompassed by benefit and a feeling of pomposity. He was instructed
by guides and tutors until age 14, and the whole family spun around him, with his mom being the
predominant figure in his life, even into adulthood. His childhood was so not at all like the basic

The population of the United States had almost doubled from 1870 to 1900 because of immigrants
coming into the country to work in a growing factory industry. One of Roosevelt's biggest beliefs
was that the government had the right to regulate big business to protect the welfare of society.
(Milkis, Sidney. "Miller Center." Theodore Roosevelt: Domestic Affairs–. N.p., n.d. Web).
Roosevelt believed that the government should use its resources to help achieve economic and social
justice. When the country faced a staggering coal shortage in the fall of 1902 because of a strike in
Pennsylvania the President thought he should step in. Roosevelt decided to call in the mine owners
and the representatives of labor to the white house to work out the predicament. When the two sides
refused to talk Teddy devised a plan to get the two sides to communicate. His plan was the " square
deal" and it was that instead of sending federal troops to break the strike and force the miners back
to work, Roosevelt threatened to use troops to take the mines and run them as a federal operation.
(Milkis, Sidney. "Miller Center." Theodore Roosevelt: Domestic Affairs–. N.p., n.d. Web). The
Square Deal worked to balance competing interests to create a fair deal for all sides: labor and
management, consumer and business, developer and conservationist. Everywhere Roosevelt went he
expressed the need to preserve environment as a place of refuge. He identified the American
character with the nation's wilderness regions, believing that our western and frontier heritage had
shaped American values, behavior, and culture. He preserved 200 million acres of land for national
parks and reserves during his presidency. In 1902 Roosevelt signed the Newlands Reclamation bill
which used money from federal land sales to build reservoirs and irrigation systems for agriculture

Theodore Roosevelt – with the assistance of his Rough Riders – entered the state of Florida on June

his men ruined their livers with a surplus of alcohol, Theodore focused on studying Florida's botany

a terrier–like dog (later given to Sam Black). On June 13, the Yucatan finally set sail out of Tampa

Theodore Roosevelt And The Roosevelt Center
Theodore Roosevelt during his life would spend time in North Dakota to hunt buffalo and settled in
a ranch there for some years as he found a renowned interest in the area he called his "second
home". In 2005, Dickinson State University (DSU) began to explore the legacy of the 26th President
as a tribute to his historical legacy and admiration to the territory that the university resides today.
As a result the Theodore Roosevelt Center was founded in 2007 at the university. In essence the
Theodore Roosevelt Center was founded to manage Roosevelt's archives as like many prior
presidents, he did not have an established presidential library. Many of his papers were scattered in
archives around the country including the Library of Congress, Harvard University, six national
parks, and in smaller collections at numerous other repositories. In 2008, DSU began a partnership
with the Library of Congress to digitize the Library's vast holdings related to Theodore Roosevelt,
with the intent to make them freely available online. Its broad audience scope is to attract everyone
from scholars and schoolchildren, enthusiasts and interested citizens and to provide well organized
high quality reference material to enthusiastic seekers of our 16th president. The physical library is
expected to open in 2019 but is available online.

Theodore Roosevelt Personality
Mister Theodore Roosevelt, a man of reputation and influence, dominion and power, superiority and
supremacy. No man embodied Manifest Destiny so exactly: winning a war, becoming a hero and
taking our country's powers to international borders. From Governor of New York, the Presidential
Seat, and beyond, Mister Theodore Roosevelt changed from an average American to the President of
the United States of America, and finally to a status of legendary inspiration. His actions paved a
path for aspirants and nobodies alike, to do something and become phenomenal beings in their own

Mister Theodore Roosevelt participated in the Spanish–American War, which took place in Cuba.
He managed the 1st regiment of the United States Volunteer Cavalry, popularly known as the Rough
Riders. Furthermore, He succeeded in leading his regiment through battle and in capturing vantage
points, effectively pronouncing him as a hero and a source of trust.
Later in the Oval Office, Mister Theodore Roosevelt found himself against a union of striking coal
miners. From that position, Presidents usually sent the Army to quell and subdue any demonstrators.
Contrarily, Mister Theodore Roosevelt innovatively allowed for meeting and negotiating with the
strike's leaders, which, however, failed to disband the strike. Concordantly, Mister Theodore
Roosevelt called in for the Army, seized operations of the coal mine, and resumed the efficiency of
the mine. Doomed to perish if they did not change themselves

Theodore Roosevelt was an inspiring man; he was not just one of United States greatest presidents,

When the asthma got even worse than it usually did, his father would give him a cup of coffee,
which was usually quite strong, or made him throw up by giving him a dose of syrup. Sometimes,
he would even give Teedie a cigar so that he smoked it to help his asthma. He'd sometimes even put
Teedie on a carriage and galloped to force the cold night's air into his chest or lungs. Mittie Bulloch,
Teedie's mom, was born on July 8, 1845. She was daughter of James Stephens Bulloch, and Martha
Stewart Elliot. She married Theodore Roosevelt, Sr. on December 22 of the year 1853. Mittie was
an inspiration to his son Teedie, and most of the time, she would nurse him. Mittie was very patient
with him and always kept a good sense of humor when she was around him. The one person that
was more of an inspiration to Teedie than his mom was his father. To Teedie, the most important
person and inspiration in his life was his father, Theodore Roosevelt, Sr. He was born in September
22 of 1831. His parents were Cornelius Roosevelt and Margaret Barnhill. Teedie used to describe
him as everything to him; his father, his friend, and most of all, his companion. "Mr. Roosevelt spent
much of his time raising money for charity such as Children's Aid Society and the Newsboys'
Lodging House. Yet he was never too busy to give love and attention to his children." (1) Theodore

After the Assassination of President William McKinley, Theodore (Teddy) Roosevelt became the
United States' 26th and youngest president in history on September 14th, 1901. During his
presidency he was mostly known for his "trust busting" and his fight against big business. Roosevelt
was born in New York City in 1858. When he was born he was asthmatic which, at the time, could
be very fatal. Teddy also was near sighted, and was homeschooled by his wealthy parents. His father

grief Theodore tried to drown himself in political work. When this didn't work, he left his sister in

the hardships of the western frontier, riding for days, hunting grizzly bears, herding cows as a
rancher, and chasing outlaws as a frontier sheriff."(Roosevelt, life before the presidency, Sidney

wipe out most of the cattle he had owned, so he moved back east in the year 1886. After moving

Theodore Roosevelt Personality
Theodore Roosevelt The most important man of his time. Theodore Roosevelt was thrown into the
presidency unexpectedly and ended up being one of the greatest. He is one of the most honest,
tough, and smartest men to ever become president. Without him during that time, modern America
would not be the same. Theodore Roosevelt was born to wealthy parents on October 27, 1858 in
New York City. His father Theodore was a glass importer and philanthropist, his mom Martha was a
house wife and later, his teacher. The Roosevelt family also included his 2 sisters, Anna and
Corinne, and his brother Elliott. The family was torn during the early years of Roosevelts life. His
mother was a Southern and they lived in the north. She would send down care packages for her
family in the south as her son was dreaming about fighting on the front lines for the North.
Theodore or as his family called him "teedie" was a sick child, growing up with asthma. Being sick
all the time forced him inside a lot which he spent reading and working on his taxidermy, which
made him unpopular with his classmates. He trained hard to overcome his asthma, "You must make
your body" his father's words that would inspire him. Make his body he did, he would work out in
the mansion that his family owned for hours. His father would build him a gym and even trained
with an award–winning boxer.
Theodore was home schooled until college where he attended Harvard. Like when he was younger
he wasn't the most popular kid at Harvard. He was a progressive person that dressed differently than
the majority of people at the campus. He would still have his taxidermy up in his dorm which would
have smelled horrible. College was a turning point in Roosevelts life. in college, he found the love
of his life and his father was diagnosed with stomach cancer and died. This drove Roosevelt to work
harder and eventually go into politics. His first wife Alice Lee was a student at Harvard and he
would marry her on his 22nd birthday. He didn't go on his honeymoon until that summer, instead he
went to Columbia Law. Roosevelt never finished so he could go into politics. He returned to New
York where he would become one of the leading politicians by the time he was 26.

Theodore Roosevelt's speech in 1906 "The Man With The Muskurate", was trying to inform the
people of social injustices, inequality, corruption in order to bring about reform. Roosevelt inserts
his opinion/belief to show the country how serious 'Yellow Journalism' is and needs to be addressed
because if not it could lead to calamity. During this speech, Roosevelt used a strong structure, good
choice of words, and tone, not only grabbing the audience's attention showing them the lies, but
Roosevelt is pointing out their faults.
Throughout Roosevelt's speech, 'The Man With The Muskurate', his structure was organized so his
purpose of writing was reflected. Roosevelt demonstrates clear views on his negative feelings
towards newspapers, magazines, and books etc...by addressing their insults and lies. Roosevelt's
structure was straightforward, identify the issue, giving examples, and attacking issue. For example:
Theodore Roosevelt,"warns against mudslinging on the stump and in the press." Then uses an
example saying, "In Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress". Finally he attacked the issue, "There should be
relentless exposure of and attack upon every evil man, whether politician or businessman; every evil
practice, whether in politics, in business, or in social life. I hail as a benefactor every writer or
speaker, every man who, on the platform, or in book, magazine, or newspaper, with merciless
severity makes such attack, provided always that he in his turn remembers that the attack is of use
only if it is absolutely truthful." Roosevelt used repetition, which enabled him to go back to his
direct point, by recognizing the negligence in 'Yellow Journalism' which keeps the reader focused on
the main idea.
The structure of the 'The Man With The Muskurate' shaped Roosevelt's tone which was very serious
and directly to the point. Roosevelt was stern, honest, spoke strong and

During the early 1900's the president of the United States of America was a man called Theodore
Roosevelt. Although he began his term as president with the death of President McKinley, his period
in the White House turned out to be one of the most progressive periods in American history. His
progressive policies influenced the direction that the country would take in the twentieth century. In
the following paper I will explain several of Theodore Roosevelt's progressive polices. Specifically I
will deal with his labor policies and his new nationalism policy. My thesis will be that these policies
had a genuinely positive effect on America as a whole nation.

Roosevelt said he didn't want to use the government to ruin private firms, but rather to strengthen

Roosevelt not only wanted the government to help small businesses, but also to be a helping hand to

workers were striking for better wages and healthier working conditions. As talks between owners

Teddy has more than double the amount of electoral votes than Alton B. Parker and a close race in
the popular vote with Teddy hardly scraping by in the election of 1904. Teddy brought the White
House a new idea that the president should be in control over all others. He also believed that
Congress should only be making decisions that the people wanted and anything that could be taken
as selfish or not correct in his eyes was wrong and would not be tolerated. The population of the
United States had almost doubled from 1870 to 1900 as immigrants came to U.S. cities to work in
the country 's burgeoning factories. As the United States became increasingly urban and industrial, it
acquired many of the attributes common to industrial nations–overcrowded cities, poor working
conditions, great economic disparity, and the political dominance of big business. Russia and Japan
had endured several years of disputes over control of Manchuria. The Russians had entered the
region during the Sino–Japanese War of 1894–95 and, along with Germany and France, was a part
of the "Triple Intervention" that forced Japan to give up its demands for ports in South Manchuria
and the Liaodong Peninsula in the wake of its victory in China. Teddy thought that the President had
the right to use any and all powers unless they were specifically denied to him. He believed that as
President, he had a unique relationship with and responsibility to the people, and therefore

Theodore Roosevelt Contributions
Theodore Roosevelt spent his life trying to preserve the natural land and resources of the United
States, while promoting other countries to do so too. While president, he expanded the power of the
government to preserve land and create National Parks in order to promote a healthy use of the land
and allow all people in America to enjoy what the outdoors have to offer. Theodore Roosevelt
believed that the land was being over–exploited by companies and land grabbers, therefore, he
wanted to protect the land, but wanted the land to still be used in a way that was healthy for the
environment and would benefit the greatest number of people.
Theodore Roosevelt was born in New York City in 1858 and is the second oldest child in the family
(The Life of Theodore Roosevelt). He loved to be in nature and enjoyed reading books, therefore, he
decided to combine both loves and studied nature (The Life of Theodore Roosevelt). As a child, he
gathered a collection of dead animals in order to preserve and study them then created "The
Roosevelt Museum," a museum held in his room and keep an inaccurate description of what he
found or of what he saw in the marketplace (Roosevelt). Theodore Roosevelt suffered from severe
asthma and would have constant asthma attacks, but his father still pushed him to be physically and
mentally strong this is what made Roosevelt what he would become (The Life of Theodore
Roosevelt). Once he turned 18 he was accepted into Harvard planning on teaching history,

Similarities Between Roosevelt And Sara Delano Roosevelt
Just along the Hudson River in Hyde Park, New York (Johnson 13), there lived a wealthy couple
(Osinski 11). The couple was James Roosevelt (Johnson 13) and Sara Delano Roosevelt (Johnson
14). Despite being distant cousins (Osinski 11), Sara gave birth to Franklin Delano Roosevelt on
January 30, 1882 (Osinski 11). Franklin grew up at Hyde Park as an only child (Gies 1), and he
began learning from tutors hired by Sara at the age of six (Gies 2). Along with being taught English,
Franklin learned Latin, French, and German (Freedman 9). When Franklin was not being tutored
and had free time, he often spent it outside in the nature (Osinski 13). During most summers,
Franklin vacationed to Campobello Island and sailed boats (Johnson 39). As Franklin continued to
sail, he learned its concepts, and by the age of 17, Franklin became an experienced sailor (Johnson
26). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Groton School was a high–class, boys only (Osinski 16), private college prep school (Freedman 13).
At Groton School, Franklin did not excel in physical activities (Osinski 16), but he did become a
member of the school's debate team (Osinski 17). After four years at Groton School, Franklin
graduated in 1900 (Freedman 16) and was awarded a prize in Latin (Johnson 26). The following fall,
Franklin enrolled and was accepted into Harvard University (Gies 5). At Harvard University, he was
denied entrance to many school clubs, but he was accepted into the school's newspaper, the Crimson
(Johnson 36). Franklin completed his schooling in three years, but stayed a fourth year and
dedicated that year to the Crimson (Gies 5). From his freshman year to his junior year, he progressed
from being an editor, to being the president of the school paper (Osinski 23). When Franklin's fourth
year at Harvard University ended, he graduated in the summer of 1904 (Johnson

Roosevelt Corollary

  • 1. Roosevelt Corollary What character(s) are in the cartoon: The Big Stick in the Caribbean Sea cartoon, I see Theodore Roosevelt carrying a big stick, walking prideful while pulling away ships that say "Debt Collector, The Sheriff, The Receiver" from Latin America. I also see many birds flying over the Caribbean Sea and Latin America territories. What symbols and actions does the artist employ in the cartoon: The birds represent Germany and Great Britain, and the ships represent the United States Naval. The big stick is an ideology of "speak softly and carry a big stick" (as cited in Morgan, 1919, p. 216), that is well known as "Roosevelt Corollary." The artist expresses the intervention that President Roosevelt acted as the police flexing his muscles and standing up against the Europeans from invading Venezuela for repayment matters. • 3. Differences And Similarities Between Roosevelt And... Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Theodore Roosevelt are very influential individuals in the political development of the United States of America and are key to the history of the US. There are several differences and similarities between Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Theodore Roosevelt. Franklin Delano Roosevelt [FDR], was a Democrat and the 32nd President of the United States. The Democrats nominated Franklin Roosevelt as their candidate for president in 1932 against the incumbent Hoover. Roosevelt was elected in a landslide victory in part due to his platform called "The New Deal". ( He won a record of four presidential elections. He is often recognized for going into office at a time of turmoil in the nation. FDR assumed his presidency ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He is well known for his temperament, interests, and achievements. Although there were no wars at the time, his slogan was reinforced by sending the expanded US Navy and the Great White Fleet on a world tour. "TR negotiated an end to the Russo–Japanese War, for which he won the Nobel Peace Prize. Theodore Roosevelts presidency ended the Gilded Age." (Solheim, Bruce, 21–22) "Not only had Roosevelt alienated big business, he was also attacking both the judiciary and the deep faith Republicans had in their judges (most of whom had been appointed by McKinley, Roosevelt or Taft.) In the 1910 Congressional elections, Democrats swept to power, and Taft's reelection in 1912 was increasingly in doubt." (Blum, John Morton, 252). When comparing these two presidents, it is vitally important to first of all highlight that both presidents were without any doubts, great personalities and they by right, occupy their places on the historical pages of the development of the US. They both were concerned with the interests of the people and they did their best to help them go through the difficult times ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Much more than the 33rd Governor of New York. He was an individual that showed all the attributes and competencies of a true legacy leader. This paper will illustrate how Theodore Roosevelt's character, presence, and intellect truly made him an Army professional. Theodore Roosevelt was a leader and a scholar that has truly molded my military career and contributed immensely to my personal growth. Character One's leadership style is affected by an individual's character. Having the ability to do what is right even when no one is around. Army values, empathy, warrior ethos, and discipline are the building blocks of strong character. I will never quit is one of the four warrior ethos that Theodore Roosevelt embraced. This characteristic trait helped as a small child being born with debilitating asthma. Although growing up he never let this slow him down. Roosevelt's father would take him on hikes in the Alps growing up. After numerous occasions, Roosevelt found that he could keep up with his father. This instilled in him the knowledge that physical exercise is important and to have the discipline to never quit. As a leader, I take simple instances like this so that I can use to mold the newer generation of Soldiers that or in our ranks. Mentoring these young Soldiers on the importance of the Army Values. • 7. Roosevelt Vs. Roosevelt, And Theodore Roosevelt And... Throughout the 19th century and early 20th century, expansionism was very prevalent throughout the United States. The only setback was differing opinions on the subject matter. It was widely believed that the United States was destined to expand across and around North America and its neighboring lands while others believed it would be wrong to try and take the land from countries that already had control over them. Important historical figures such as Theodore Roosevelt and William Graham Sumner are prime examples of American citizens who had conflicting beliefs on this topic. For these two prominent men, they each had their own opinion on whether the United States should or should not acquire land under Spanish control. They voiced these opinions to show why and how their belief would be better for America and all her citizens. Sumner's his beliefs can be seen in his Speech "The Conquest of The United States by Spain" whereas Roosevelt's can be seen in his collection of Essays known as "The Strenuous Life: Essays and Addresses." Theodore Roosevelt was a proponent for acquisition of Spanish territories abroad and this can be seen in a passage from his Address titled "The Strenuous Life" The main arguments that Roosevelt is trying to make in his paper is that America was built by those who were strong, hard–working, and not afraid to advance the nation through war and that if America is so great, it must play a large part in the world. Eleanor Roosevelt was born in New York to her parents Anna Hall Roosevelt and Elliot Roosevelt. With her blue eyes and light brown hair, she would warm the heart of every individual she came across. She grew to be five feet and eleven inches, which to this day makes her the tallest first lady. She offered to divorce him; in her heart she knew that it would damage his and her new political career. She was also concerned for the well being of her children. Eleanor said, "It is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness." • 61. Theodore Roosevelt Personality Theodore Roosevelt The most important man of his time. Theodore Roosevelt was thrown into the presidency unexpectedly and ended up being one of the greatest. He is one of the most honest, tough, and smartest men to ever become president. Without him during that time, modern America would not be the same. Theodore Roosevelt was born to wealthy parents on October 27, 1858 in New York City. His father Theodore was a glass importer and philanthropist, his mom Martha was a house wife and later, his teacher. The Roosevelt family also included his 2 sisters, Anna and Corinne, and his brother Elliott. The family was torn during the early years of Roosevelts life. His mother was a Southern and they lived in the north. She would send down care packages for her family in the south as her son was dreaming about fighting on the front lines for the North. Theodore or as his family called him "teedie" was a sick child, growing up with asthma. Being sick all the time forced him inside a lot which he spent reading and working on his taxidermy, which made him unpopular with his classmates. He trained hard to overcome his asthma, "You must make your body" his father's words that would inspire him. Make his body he did, he would work out in the mansion that his family owned for hours. His father would build him a gym and even trained with an award–winning boxer. Theodore was home schooled until college where he attended Harvard. Like when he was younger he wasn't the most popular kid at Harvard. He was a progressive person that dressed differently than the majority of people at the campus. He would still have his taxidermy up in his dorm which would have smelled horrible. College was a turning point in Roosevelts life. in college, he found the love of his life and his father was diagnosed with stomach cancer and died. This drove Roosevelt to work harder and eventually go into politics. His first wife Alice Lee was a student at Harvard and he would marry her on his 22nd birthday. • 67. Roosevelt Theodore Roosevelt's speech in 1906 "The Man With The Muskurate", was trying to inform the people of social injustices, inequality, corruption in order to bring about reform. Roosevelt inserts his opinion/belief to show the country how serious 'Yellow Journalism' is and needs to be addressed because if not it could lead to calamity. During this speech, Roosevelt used a strong structure, good choice of words, and tone, not only grabbing the audience's attention showing them the lies, but Roosevelt is pointing out their faults. Throughout Roosevelt's speech, 'The Man With The Muskurate', his structure was organized so his purpose of writing was reflected. Roosevelt demonstrates clear views on his negative feelings towards newspapers, magazines, and books etc...by addressing their insults and lies. Roosevelt's structure was straightforward, identify the issue, giving examples, and attacking issue. For example: Theodore Roosevelt,"warns against mudslinging on the stump and in the press." Then uses an example saying, "In Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress". Finally he attacked the issue, "There should be relentless exposure of and attack upon every evil man, whether politician or businessman; every evil practice, whether in politics, in business, or in social life. I hail as a benefactor every writer or speaker, every man who, on the platform, or in book, magazine, or newspaper, with merciless severity makes such attack, provided always that he in his turn remembers that the attack is of use only if it is absolutely truthful." Roosevelt used repetition, which enabled him to go back to his direct point, by recognizing the negligence in 'Yellow Journalism' which keeps the reader focused on the main idea. The structure of the 'The Man With The Muskurate' shaped Roosevelt's tone which was very serious and directly to the point. Roosevelt was stern, honest, spoke strong and ... Although he began his term as president with the death of President McKinley, his period in the White House turned out to be one of the most progressive periods in American history. His progressive policies influenced the direction that the country would take in the twentieth century. In the following paper I will explain several of Theodore Roosevelt's progressive polices. Roosevelt not only wanted the government to help small businesses, but also to be a helping hand to the labor class. In May 1902, about 140,000 coal workers in Pennsylvania went on strike. The workers were striking for better wages and healthier working conditions. As talks between owners and workers dragged on coal supplies throughout the country began to dwindle. Finally Roosevelt stepped in and suggested the owners and the workers settle their differences through a government– monitored arbitration. The miners agreed, but the owners refused and Roosevelt threatened to use the army if necessary to settle the strike. With the threat of military involvement the owners agreed to talk but not to Roosevelt. J.P. Morgan agreed to arbitrate the talks and an agreement was finally reached in favor of the miners. As a result of this crisis the government set up the department of commerce and labor. Roosevelt also gave the nation its first national dilemma settled by government involved arbitration.
