El Día de los Muertos goes back to the
Aztecs, who dedicated an entire month to
the dead. It started 3.000 years ago. This
festivity was presided by the goddess
Mictecacihuatl.
The annual rite has skeletons, altars and
other ornaments of death. The skeletons
dance and sing. Flowers, fruit and candy
decorate altars.
5. How it's celebrated
-All families intricate an altar in their homes by putting candles and
decoration.
-They also celebrate it dancing and doing parades in the streets.
-The graveyards are always decorated.
-Local media reported that around 300.000 people attended the
celebration last year.
6. They paint their faces and wear
colorful costumes, they cook
tradicional food and sugar skulls,
with some help of their parents,
and they decorate the graves or
ofrendas of loved ones.
