2. Mise en scene, Camera Angles and Shots, Editing and
Sound are used to represent the 5 areas of
representation; gender, class, ethnicity, age, status.
This represents the type of social groups that would
watch our opening sequence.
In our opening sequence you can see that the type of
social group that would be watching our film would be
teenagers, and young adults, as with this opening
sequence it is based in a high school, and is also based
on stereotypes of girls, which teenage girls and young
adults can relate to more than teenage boys or men for
example.

3. Mise En Scene
One way in how this is shown is by the use of clothing. This is
shown with one character being in a cheerleading outfit and
our other character being in fishnet tights and shorts with a
black top. This is representing the typically styled look of a
popular girl and an outcast at school, which in the social
group of teenage girls, they can relate to this type of scene,
and also relate to this type of genre film. This also relates to
status, in how we know that as a cheer leader, we know that
she is going to have more status and power. This could also
link to class, as of the alternative character being all in black
and she is also looking timid in her facial expressions, these
shows that she is lower class compared to the cheer leader.
Ethnicity could also be seen in the type of characters that we
have used as we have chosen to white girls, as in most teen
dramas, cheer leaders are white and so are outcasts such as
our characters.
Another way in how this is shown is by the setting and
location. This is the setting of a school or college, as we have
based it in corridors. This represents that it is based as a high
school drama, and that it is also linked to the social group of
teenage girls, as with our characters walking down the
corridors, you can see other people walking past them, and
also either ignoring them or staring. This shows status again

4. and also represents gender as this can be related to how a
social group of teenage girls.
Camera Shots & Angles
The camera shots that we used shows a typical high school
genre as in any type of high school genre film shows the main
character walking down a corridor at some point. We found
that shooting them walking down a corridor shows the
contrast of how different they are compared to everyone
else who is also in the same corridor. We also found that in
some teen dramas like ours, they seem to start from the feet
of the character and work their way up to the face, which is
how we filmed our characters. The type of angles that we
used shows age, as in the teen dramas that we have looked
at that use the same techniques and same shots and angles
as our opening sequence, they are rated 12 or 15, which is
what we are gaining at. This could also show status, however
for both characters they both have the same angles as each
other, which shows no level in status for either of the
characters, other than the clothing that they are wearing.
Editing
The editing that has been used to create our title sequence
represents our social group of teenage girls as it shows a fast
and rapid flow towards the end, as with this, it shows how
quick a day at school can go, and because it is fast and rapid,

5. it shows that it is a build up towards something between
both the characters.
Sound
The sound in our opening sequence is a music track that has
been played over the entire sequence apart from the clash,
where the folders drop on the floor. The reasons on why we
have done this is because we wanted to get the audience
into the sense that it is a teen drama, and that it is also a
modern chick flick genre film. The music represents the social
group of teenage girls as it is the stereotype of music that
girls listen to, so with it playing over the top of the sequence
it gets the audience into the sense of what genre film it is
from the start. This represents status and class because it is
not a sophisticated style as it is a punk style of music which
indicates the type of film this is.
However, we have left the diagetic sound on for when the
books crash on the floor as it then gives it a sense of
normality, and as if we are coming out of the music and into
reality, because as we can see, the clash is a typical event
that can happen at school. This represents status as it shows
that the cheer leader doesn’t care and that she carries on
walking off as she is fine, however, with the alternative
character we can see that it is her belongings that fall on the
floor and she then kneels down and picks her stuff up. This
shows status as now the cheer leader is above the other
character and that the other character is now on the floor.
