management strategies
To foster my preferred classroom
learning environment
Relating to students in a
positive manner
O Build relationships with students
O Have the word RESPECT written on the board
O Being firm but fair
O Be consistent and remain calm
O Praise and encourage work and effort of the students
rather than the student themselves
O Display confidence
O Be enthusiastic and humorous
O Make myself approachable
O Interact with all students
O Make an effort to chat to students outside of class
time.
O Create classroom guidelines as opposed to rules
Preventing misbehaviour
O Identify it before it becomes problematic
O Implement a seating plan
O Ensure adequate physical surroundings
O Have expectations for students to listen when others are talking
O To communicate in a private place and in a respectful manner
when a student misbehaves
O I won’t discipline the entire class when just a few are
misbehaving
O I will strive to motivate the reluctant learner – include them in
class discussions
O Over-plan to avoid dead time
O Provide at least one learning activity so students can
experience success in each lesson.
O Encourage group work and experiments
Handling student discipline
O Make sure you are fair
O Think disciplinary action through first before
acting
O Correct behaviour privately
O Discipline the students once the heat of the
moment has passed
O Only make disciplinary decisions that can be
enforced
O Seek management advice if necessary
O Take away practical time
Classroom leadership
O Set a starter activity to provide myself time to
prepare the lesson
O One step at a time instructions with visual aids
O Show sincere enthusiasm for subject
O Provide structure in the classroom
O Maintain high yet realistic and attainable
standards in the classroom
O Teach my students how to study
O Summarise each lesson
