1. Raising The Minimum Wage Of The United States
Raise the minimum wage: In the United States, studies show that women tend to make up a
disproportionate share of low–wage workers. In the field of education, men tends to go more to
STEM than women and that also leads to high paying jobs for men. If we raise the minimum wage,
this will help hardworking women to support their families. Approximately, women made up two–
thirds of all minimum–wage workers in 2012. With the current federal minimum wage i.e. $7.25 per
hour, someone working full time, only earn $15,080 a year round. People working full time with
minimum wage is still below the poverty threshold for any family with children and single person is
also not far above the poverty line. So, increasing the federal minimum wage to $10.10 an hour
would help increase the wages for about 15 million women, which will help close the gender wage
gap.
Raise the tipped minimum wage: The gender wage gap is vividly observed in tipped workers. The
federal tipped minimum wage, which hasn't been changed since 1991, only pays workers $2.13 per
hour. According to the Economic Policy Institute, women make up two–thirds of tipped workers and
are 70 percent of food servers and bartenders, occupations that comprise more than half of the
tipped workforce. Tipped workers have a higher poverty rate than non–tipped workers, and 46
percent rely on government assistance to make ends meet.
As women account for two – thirds of tipped workers, raising tipped minimum wage will help

10. Involvement of Parents in Their Child's Development
Project Part 3
For a working woman, maternity leave is a standard part of giving birth. Physically, the new mother
needs that time to recover from the birthing process, but there is an emotional reason, too. Experts
preach over and over that for those first few weeks of a baby's life, it needs the interaction and touch
of its mother to help with bonding to start their development on the right track. Shouldn't the father
be part of that process as well? Shouldn't the father of the new child be able to take paternity leave
from work? I believe they should, not only to bond with the child, but to help the mother with her
recovery and to coordinate visitors, appointments and any errands that may be needed. Some ...

Friends, relatives, and neighbors alike all want to see the new bundle of joy. Some may want to cook
dinner for the new family and having the father home on paternity leave would help take this stress
off the new mother. When the mother is sleeping or caring for the child, the father could coordinate
with everyone wanting to visit so that the new family is not bombarded with everyone at once. A
mother having to deal with her own recovery as well as caring for the child could easily get
overwhelmed dealing with all the requests. On top of coordinating visitors, the father could manage
the doctor's appointments or errands to get supplies. Some mothers are on medication after birth and
shouldn't drive, not to mention that most new mothers don't want to take their newborn to a grocery
store in those first few weeks. Besides the obvious benefit to a child's development, paternity leave
is beneficial to the family as well. Research has shown that in families that the father takes paternity
leave, fewer divorces occur. This helps the family by strengthening it and not having the father only
play the role of being the primary bread winner. This creates a happy family, which extends to the
workplace as well. One might think there would be

14. The Importance Of My Life
Many experiences through my life have shaped me into the person I am today. Some of them are so
insignificant I can't even place them, but others I will remember until I take my very last breath. I
will never forget what happened to my family and I since the time my grandmother was diagnosed
with cancer. Because my grandmother had cancer for a good portion of my childhood, I became
very mature, gained a new respect for people, and I have developed a new outlook on life. My
grandmothers diagnosis made her very special to me. I had to mature very quickly after my
grandmother got sick. My grandmother was diagnosed with bone and stomach cancer in 2008. I was
only seven years old. It was shocking to me because I was still a little kid, and I was worry–free and
happy. Having her so sick changed her; she didn't have the time to spend with little kid anymore.
She had to take care of herself along, with her younger brother, because there was nobody else. I
hated seeing my grandmother so sick; it tore me apart. I was always left alone with my little brother.
My grandmother was the happiest person I knew although it tore me apart to see in as sick as she
was going to visit her would always cheer me up. I grew to love my parents because I desperately
wanted them around not knowing how long they would be there. I learned a lot of valuable things
when my grandmother was sick. Having her too sick to do anything forced me into taking charge, as

21. The Sick Rose Symbolism
symbols of The Sick Rose William Blake was a famous romantic poet, painter and sculptor at the
end of the 18th century, and he is a poet with a unique ideology, imaginative, and strong sense of
responsibility, so the images and poetic themes in his poems are related to the times. The era of his
life is a special era – the American Revolution, the British Democratic Movement and the French
Revolution took place in that era. With the development of the industrial revolution, the
contradictions of capitalist society increasingly fierce, the people suffered more severe exploitation
and oppression. The increase of the capitalist economy made for moral degradation, but also made
the social atmosphere deteriorate. In the face of the devastation suffered by the people, many of the
literati vented their inner indignation in their own way. William Blake's poem The Sick Rose was
created in this era of turmoil. We can see his accusation and dissatisfaction with the time form the
symbols of The Sick Rose. The literal meaning of this poem is easy to understand: in the stormy
night, a beautiful rose was persecuted by a worm and lost her beauty. Most of Blake's poems are full
of symbolic images, some are difficult to understand, and some are relatively easy to understand. In
this poem, Blake expresses the esoteric meaning by using some ordinary easy–to–understand
symbols, such as the "sick Rose" "invisible worm" "storm" and"bed", leaving the reader full of
imagination.Many poets have

Paid time off (PTO) is the employer pools sick days, vacation days, and personal days that allows
the employees to utilize upon need. this policy pertains mainly in USA as such no legal requirement
for minimum number of paid vacation days. the PTO works best in the culture and accountable
employee's environment existing. US companies determine the amount off the pay day off that will
be allocated to each employee. In general way PTO system cover, everything from planned vacation
to sick leaves .and are becoming more common in human resources management. unlike traditional
more plans leave, PTO doesn't distinguish employee's absences from personal days or vacation days
or sick days. per study conducted in 2010 by WorldatWork, 44% of 387 companies surveyed said
they started using PTO bank–type plans prior to year 2000. (Wikipedia –paid of time).
PTO system allowed employees to take time off without any restriction imposed through traditional
time off policies .the approach give employees certain number of days that put in leave bank system
,upon withdrawal from employees the system reduce the balance of leaves remaining for the
employees .with the paid off leave system the employees can utilize their allocated days however
they wish, without having to specify reasons .employers can advantage from PTO asking the
employees to determine their leaves in advance and employer can plan for lost work days and
creating family environment through the organization .

How the legislations have affected Talbot Construction
The Employment Act 2002
The Talbot business must meet this Act so it must make sure that the employees are given a
statement of the terms and conditions within 28 days of starting. The Talbot business must not fail to
give the employees of the business a statement of the terms and conditions within 28 days of

The business must also make sure that they have clear guidelines in the terms of the maternity and
paternity pay leave as the business must make sure that the employees gets this. Also it would be the
employees right to have maternity and paternity pay leave so they must provide this. The business
must allow the female employees to have 26 weeks ordinary leave and another 26 weeks leave if
required. Also the business must allow the employee to work for the business after the maternity

31. Reducing The Wage Gap Between Men And Women
According to the Center for American Progress Organization there are seven vital steps that can be
taken in order to decrease the gender wage gap. Firstly, this organization firmly believes that raising
the minimum wage will positively affect the wage gap between men and women. Averages illustrate
that differentiation 's among men and women 's job selections could be considered for virtually half
of the gender pay gap. Increasing the minimum wage will benefit those dedicated women laborers
by helping support their families. Two third of mothers are sole providers within their households
and these same women are the ones, who made up relatively two–thirds of all minimum–salaried
employees in the year 2012 (Glynn, Fisher & Baxter, 2014). In 2014, the minimum wage was only
$7.25 an hour which means that a person, who works full–time would only bring in $15,080 over
the course of a year. This is not enough for an individual, who has a family to live on because in
actuality it is barely enough for a single person to survive on. This particular organization feels if the
minimum–wage is increased to at least $10.10 an hour, then it would benefit around 15 millions
women and also help narrow the pay gap that exists between men and women. Secondly, the Center
for American Progress Organization believes that increasing the tipped minimum salary would close
the gender pay gap, as well. The minimum tip wage has not been altered since the year 1991 and it
only rewards employees $2.13 a

33. The Department And The City Council
In 2015, the department and the city council did a survey to see if the department had enough
personnel. The study looked at many things such as the amount of calls for service, a number of
officers working each shift, and the schedule the officers were working. In reality, the survey was a
gamble for the department because it could come back in a positive way, finding that we should hire
more officers. Another outcome would be that we were overstaffed meaning we would lose
positions. The final outcome could be that we were adequately staffed and nothing should change.
After several months, the study determined that we had enough personnel, but the officers were
working a ten–hour shift that was consuming too many officers. The study recommended that the
department goes to either an eight or ten–hour shift. The department took the survey's
recommendations and changed all officers to an eight–hour shift. This was very unpopular with the
officers and the chief took an enormous hit on this, but he knew he was doing the best thing for the
department. I think we all knew that the ten–hour shifts were not necessarily the most productive
shift for the department and it was really only being allowed to keep morale up. After working with
the legislature, the department was able to change the state's labor law allowing the work week to be
considered over two weeks. By doing this, the officers could work more than 40 hours one week and
less than 40 hours the next as

35. The Sick Role Essay
Throughout history, illness has been defined differently depending on how the wide variety of
cultures perceived it. Early times would use supernatural explanations to understand the cause of
illnesses. For example, their transcendental reasoning may talk about evil spirits, demons, devils, or
divine punishment for committing sins. Modern definition of an illness would be the pain a sick
person feels. It's more focused on scientific clarifications where illness is a biological and mental
abnormality with a common pattern of symptoms that can be treated with the proper medication. If
one being healthy is known as a biological norm, then illness is considered a deviance because of its
abnormality. There are three methods in identifying the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The sick role assumes that the sick person didn't deliberately make himself or herself sick. However,
people may pretend to be sick and this is another addition to deviant behavior. There are some
criminals who pretends to be crazy when committing a crime so they can avoid serious penalties and
end up with ones that are more lenient. Parson has four main points when it comes to the sick role.
First is the sick person is allowed to be excused from his or usual social roles. How much leniency is
given depends on the severity of the illness. For example, a person with pneumonia has permission
to take days off from work. The employer wouldn't fire this person for taking days off if proper
documentation by the doctor is given and pneumonia is a serious illness that can be viral. Second is
the sick person isn't held accountable for being ill because this is something that the person can't
control. The human body is mysterious, which is why a sick person with strong willpower can
survive from a deadly disease. Third is the sick person doesn't want to be sick and will try whatever
means necessary to not be a deviant, which means being ill. According to the first point, the sick
person's absence from his or her responsibilities is permitted but it's not long–lasting because based
off of the third point, the person is supposed to get better so the

The Catholic Church sees the effects of the sacrament as follows: As the sacrament of Marriage
gives grace for the married state, the sacrament of Anointing of the Sick gives grace for the state
into which people enter through sickness. Through the sacrament a gift of the Holy Spirit is given,
that renews confidence and faith in God and strengthens against temptations to discouragement,
despair and anguish at the thought of death and the struggle of death; it prevents the believer from

known as "Viaticum" (Latin:"provision for the journey") when administered to the dying. The
normal order of administration of the rites is: first Penance (if the dying person is physically unable
to confess, absolution is given conditionally on the existence of contrition), then Anointing, then
Viaticum.
Of the Last Rites, only a priest or bishop can administer the Sacraments of Penance and Anointing
of the Sick. In the absence of a priest these sacraments cannot be administered, but a lay person may
give a dying person Holy Communion, which in this case is "Viaticum, the Last Sacrament of the
Christian".[8][14]

43. Causes And Effects Of Absenteeism
One of the easiest ways to succeed at a job is to simply show up and do your job. For some people,
it's not very easy to show up for work. There are numerous reasons, some valid and some not, for
people not showing up to work. Whether it's is illness, or family responsibilities, or change of
weather, people will always find a reason for not being at work. Showing up for work when you are
supposed to and on time is not only highly beneficial for your employer, but for you personally as
well. However, most employees do not realize the effects of absenteeism. Absenteeism is an
employee's willful or habitual absence from work. While employers expect workers to miss a certain
number of workdays each year, excessive absences can equate to decreased productivity and can
have a major effect on company finances, morale and other factors. This passage looks at the causes
of absenteeism, the costs of lost productivity and what employers can do to reduce absenteeism rates
in the workplace. People miss work for a variety of reasons, many of which are legitimate and
others not so much. Some of the basic causes of absenteeism include Bullying and Harassment of
Employees who are bullied and/or harassed by coworkers and/or by their bosses are more than

The way our body works is incredibly complex, but a wonderful thing that we are given. Without
everything working it would be hard to do simple tasks. When certain things do shut down or stop
working properly it can ruin a life. The littlest of organs can have an enormous effect on the body
which it did on me. The thyroid a small organ on the front of your neck gave me some serious
problems for about 2 years. From little things like sleep, appetite, and headaches it quickly scaled to
many more major things like heart palpations and severe dehydration. It may seem like something
very useless in the body, but I will never forget what it caused, and how hard it was to overcome it.
That little organ did way more than it probably knew it could do which was giving me a completely
different outlook of life itself.
"How could one simple thing do that to my entire body." I would ask later on when I finally figured
out who the culprit of my sickness was. That thyroid caused many problems around the ages of 14 –
16. The first sign of this takes me back all the way to eighth grade where I was just incredibly tired.
I felt absolutely horrible physically I couldn't get out of bed, and it was hard to do some simple tasks

MBA633 : Managing Human Resources
1. What figure will Cal Jenson report to Fred Donofrio for the amount that absenteeism cost ONO
last year?
Answer: Using figure 2–5 on page 52 Cal must compute the total employees hours lost due to
absenteeism for the period. ONO lost a total of 539 hours of labor because of absenteeism. Second
Cal must compute the weighted average wage or salary totals to $23.50 an hour for an average
salary of $47,000. Third one must compute the cost of employee benefits for ONO employees is an
additional 33%. Because absent employees are paid Cal must take the compensation
lost/hour/absent employee = wage/salary + benefits. Therefore 1.5/539/11=47,000 + 33% = (2.99 or

It should not take an hour and a half to reschedule and fix your day of work. A good manager should
be able to manage running their business without calling in a temp or make sure for a day that calls
for extra people they have extra just in case someone does call out. When I worked retail I saw this
first hand with black Friday. We scheduled everyone that day and if it was to many people we would
send those who wanted to go home early home. Because the money made on black Friday was
almost three or four times higher than a normal day it didn't matter our employees hours for the day.
3. What recommendations for action could Cal Jenson make to Fred Donofrio?
Answer: The first recommendation Cal should suggest is lowering the amount of sick days. Because
12 is 2 ½ weeks a year and the average American uses 2.3 percent of scheduled work time, or an
average of 5.5 unscheduled absences per year (F.Cascio, 2013), they could try cutting paid sick days
to 10. If that works and numbers lower then leave it ten for a few years and lower it even more.
Secondly Cal should recommend that Fred pull the reports for the prior year and see the days that
had the highest earnings. Make sure those days you schedule an extra person. Because employees
are salary it doesn't matter if they work 2 hours or 8 for the day. Schedule a extra person just incase
someone calls out and if they are not needed send them home. Between scheduling an extra person
and cutting allotted sick days from 12

The concepts discussed within the article regarding sick role, illness behavior and stigma served to

Furthermore, the article elaborated on the idea of what "sick role" is about such as how patients are
obliged to follow medical treatment and guidance in exchange for a classification title of being
"sick" gaining freedom from their everyday societal responsibilities (Gabe et al. 64). Moreover, the
article addresses a contradictory viewpoint regarding the model of "sick role" emphasized by Bloor

56. Baptism Of The Sick : A Special Gift Of Grace
For many years, "Anointing of the Sick" has remained one of the seven sacraments, which are
sacramental symbols that are used by Christ to show his life and grace. Till this day, society
continues to turn to this sacrament for the special sanctifying grace of healing and to find peace with
God. Anointing of the sick is a special gift of grace that is delivered to those who are ill, injured, at
old age, or near death. It dates back many centuries to the time of Christ. In fact, "Anointing of the
Sick" was instituted by Christ our Lord himself when he went around the community healing those
who were ill. This sacrament provides a special grace for ill persons so that it may bring about
strength and comfort to the body and soul; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Christ wanted to heal the whole persons' body and soul. "During His public ministry, Jesus healed
people – the blind, the lame, the lepers, the deaf and mute, the hemorrhaging and the dying. His
healing touched both body and soul." (Saunders, n.d.) Christ bestowed these special gifts on to his
disciples. He entrusted this special healing power to them and told his disciples to go into the
communities and heal those who were sick, injured, or terminally ill. With the anointing oil, which
was blessed, many were healed. Those who were terminally ill would receive more of a spiritual
healing that helped them feel calm and released of fear. God's presence was felt during the anointing
which made them feel that they were one with God. However, there were some people that didn't
believe in these healing powers because they knew only God could heal and forgive sins.
Regardless, Christ continued to do his work. Faith grew in all who witnessed these healing miracles
and those who continued to share and listen to these stories.
The purpose of the sacrament is to anoint the sick by receiving a special grace that is given to an ill
person in order to provide strength and comfort to the soul. A person is able to let go of all their
fears that are associated with death and be at peace by knowing they will soon enter the kingdom of
God. When this sacrament is performed, it brings the presence of God with it. There are a few

58. Analysis Of The Film Edvard Munch '
Edvard Munch is an artist that has been traumatized and haunted by death throughout his entire life.
His works of art are both terrifying and mesmerizing. In the film Edvard Munch, director Peter
Watkins does an excellent job at showing the life of Munch as if it was Munch telling his life. The
film is a mixture of documentary and a drama about Munch's life, and how his torments were
reflected in his art.
The film has a very grey and cold tone throughout its run. It definitely helps set the mood of
Kristiania (Oslo), Norway where Munch grew up. The film's depiction of Munch was that of a very
shy, and reserved young man, in fact he hardly ever spoke. It also portrayed him as a sort of outcast
in his family, as his father was a doctor, and his other siblings were also aspiring to be doctors.
During this time, we can see that Munch's early studies of his family always showed the side of
people's faces. There was no eye contact. In the film it not only shows those paintings, but it also
shows Edvard and his father always arguing and they never make eye contact with each other.
He began working on a portrait of his younger sister in 1884. The painting only illuminated her face
and her hand, everything else was black. The critics in Kristiania called it a "frightening ugly
portrait." This negative criticism would follow Munch's work for the next fifteen years, affecting
even his painting of The Sick Child which is a painting of his older sister's death. In the film Edvard

main manner in which the proposed methods take into consideration individual, group, and

To be effective, incentive pay should boost the kinds of behavior that are most needed, and
employees must believe they have the aptitude to encounter the performance standards. Employees
must value and appreciate the rewards, and believe the pay plan is fair. Organizations can link
incentive pay to individual performance, revenues, or other methods of success. They select
incentives based on their budgets, anticipated influence on performance, and fit with the
organizations broader HR and company strategies and objectives. As Hr. manager I will use the
Merit pay system, and Gainsharing methods for incentive pay
Merit pay is a system associating pay increases to ratings and evaluations on performance
assessments. This system gives the biggest pay increases to the best performers and to those whose
pay is comparatively low for their occupation. Organizations review merit upsurge grids in
fluctuating economic and financial circumstances. "In companies that give yearly merit increases
without a different raise for increases in cost of living, merit pay ends up serving as a cost–of–living
adjustment and creates a sense of entitlement on the part of employees, with even low performers
expecting them" ((Noe, Hollenbeck, Gerhart, & Wright pg. 375 ) .

A never Happy Ending
Growing up with my sick sister isn't easy. Waking up to screams is not so pleasant. Every morning is

things that hurts not only them, but me too. I've never understood why she does what she does. If

All my parents attention goes to her. And, I mean, I get it. I shouldn't be complaining. I understand

of, but my both little brother and sister too; Brianna and Betito. God. They're a handful.

Although women work the same jobs as men they are not being treated like it. We live in an age
where women are not financially equal to the men work the same jobs. Because of this there are
struggling single mothers, and the mistreatment of hard working women. Over the years as the
amount of women working in businesses rises so does the level of inequality. As women, they do
not want to be counted shorter than a man who does the same work, to be sure they get the equal pay
they deserve we need to pass laws that grant companies to pay genders equally, strengthen the
protections guaranteed by the equal pay act of 1963, and pass paid sick days legislation. First we
need to identify why women are not being paid equally. Some will say that the reason women are
not being paid equally is because they take sick days off because of pregnancy. The fact that
companies do not consider pregnancy a disability is the reason during that time it is considered an
unpaid sick day. Studies show that 39% of mothers say they stayed home or taken mothers say they
have taken a lot of time from work and 42 5 of mothers reduced their hours. A quarter of women say
that quit their jobs in all for family responsibilities.
