Essay on Hero-Anti Hero
Superman, Wonder Woman, Spiderman–what do all these characters have in common? They are all
products of the human aspiration to be saved. The word hero is passed around too much these days.
A hero is not a football player that scores the game–winning touchdown or the goaltender who saves
his team from a loss. A hero is usually an ordinary person that did extraordinary things. A true hero
is really never a hero at all; at least not in their own mind. However, there are various cases today in
which we see the exact opposites of these characters, the anti–heroes. The anti–hero is one who
cannot be classified as a hero, for that said character lacks natural heroic qualities. However, the
anti–hero cannot be described as a villain either. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On his 40th Labor Day telethon in 2005, Jerry Lewis added Salvation Army fundraising for
Hurricane Katrina to his usual Muscular Dystrophy Assosiation fundraising, though he also
encouraged viewers to give to the American Red Cross. Not all of what Jerry Lewis has done has
been good, but no hero is perfect. Aside from controversy from the community of disabled people
with comments he has made, Jerry Lewis can still be considered a hero for the great charitable work
he has done for the benefit of others.
A reasonable example for an anti–hero could be Al Capone. Despite the common image that is
portrayed in society of Al Capone, there was some that Capone did as good for others during the
Depression. Part of the reason Capone was taken to task in this way was his status as a celebrity.
Capone often tried to suppress his image and be seen as a community leader. For instance, he started
a program to fight rickets by providing a daily milk ration to Chicago school children. Also during
the Great Depression, he attempted to open up many soup kitchens for the poor and homeless.
Although most of the money he used to do this may have been related to his selling or gang
violence, or even his bootlegging of liqour, he still attempted using some of it for a good cause. He
acquired a great deal of appreciation from abounding poor persons in Chicago for his blatant
disregard of the Prohibition law that they loathed. He was percepted

He promoted this style of music on his radio show and popularized the phrase "Rock n Roll." Alan

influence in rock n roll. Teenagers in the 1950's began to listen to a new style of music, it was rock n

loved by many American teenagers but disliked by their parents. Parents did not like it because their
children were rebelling against their music from their generation and danced much more differently
than the parents "to the horror of the older generation, their children were twisting, thrusting,
bumping, and grinding to the sounds of rock n roll"(U.S. History) Many parents thought it was a bad
influence on their children especially after seeing Elvis Presley on the Ed Suvillon Show. Elvis
danced loosely on stage and shocked many adults around the country, they have never seen this kind

them hate rock n roll even more. Rock n roll was hated so much by adults that it was banned from

Sam Smith Critique
Album Review of In the Lonely Hour by Sam Smith Singer, songwriter and now Grammy– award
winning artist Sam Smith came into the wonderful country of America with a bang in early 2014.
Not only did Sam Smith achieve the number 1 spot for 3 hit singles, he shattered the charts with his
debut album and won the title of Best New Artist at the Grammy's. Sam Smith began his journey
into music while living in the United Kingdom up until the age of 22. Once Smith achieved his
Bachelor's degree, he made his way to the land of the free and the home of the brave to pursue a
music career. This was not easy for Smith as he spent most of his undergraduate years scrubbing
toilets to earn money to move to the United States and forfeiting time and relationships. ... Show

In the song "I've told you now", Sam Smith starts off with a slow tempo and rhythmic beat that
could easily be heard or recognized in a smooth jazz club. He then changes the tempo of the song by
slowing down the beat, once again, and allowing a member of the string family to make its way into
the song. The violoncello adds a sweet but subtle rhythmic tap to each beat that is heard in the song.
With the violoncello instrument in the background, Smith uses his voice type of tenor to sweetly add
emotion to the song. This emotion is very soft yet, direct and listeners can feel the pain through his
voice. Quickly enough, Sam Smith changes his voice from tenor to alto, to stress the lyrics "Why
the h–ll do you think I come here on my free will?" These lyrics help everyone to understand that
the artist is upset but, yet enraged with what is going on within his life. As soon as he uses his alto
voice abilities, the artist slowly retreats back to the nice tenor to convey his sadness,

Communication In Maniac Mageee
In the book, Maniac Magee, Jerry Spinelli uses descriptive details, dialogue, actions, and thoughts to
develop one of the main characters, Amanda Beal. I am Amanda Beale. I like to communicate. I
personally think I am very good at it. I have three brothers one sister. I love books especially
encyclopedias. I hope that you will let me teach at John T Baker Middle School. One quality that I
have that would be good for this job is being able to communicate well. For one I communicate well
with others. I speak with confidence and reason, depending on how the person is acting or the
situation. For example once I had to say this to a person that was being a bully "I got a little brother
and a little sister that crayon all over my books, and I got a dog that eats them and poops on them
and that's just inside my own family, and I'm not gonna have nobody else messing with my books!"
Even though I am clearly mad in this case I still spoke with confidence I spoke clearly and I had
evidence for the situation I was in. Another example of me being communicating well is once I
found my friend Maniac is a buffalo pen at the zoo late at night in the west side of town. I had to
convince him to come home. This is what I told him " you do not have a choice. I am not asking
you. I'm telling you. You are coming home with me, and you are going to sleep in my room, which
is going to be your room– and I don't care if you sleep on the floor or the windowsill or what–but
you are going to sleep there and not here." As you can see I am talking to Maniac about the fact that
he will come with me and that he will not sleep in the buffalo pen. I spoke clearly stated my claim
and told him what needed to be done. His shows that if I need something to get done I will
communicate with the person. Finally I think I'm communicative because in my life I have probably
gone through many stages. One of these stages was taking baths with my brothers. When I finally
grew out of it I had to tell them, communicate with them. This is what happened " Then came a day
when Amanda entered fourth grade, and she decided she was getting too old to tub it with her little
brother and sister." This shows that Amanda decided to communicate with her

Understanding The Limitations Of A Person With Mcardle 's...
In 2005, my husband was forced to retire from a job at Georgia Pacific. This was a job that he had
been working at for thirty–three years. The muscles in his arms were tearing for no reason that we
knew of and he was having some other health problems. It was very upsetting to both of us not
knowing the outcome about his health and now no income as well. We had seen many doctors on
many different occasions. We kept hitting a dead end. Finally, we were able to see a new doctor, a
neurologist, and after examining my husband, he immediately said to my husband, "you have
McArdle 's disease." It was a term that I was not familiar with at all. My heart dropped and I was not
sure what we were up against. Understanding the limitations of a person with McArdle 's disease is
the best way to live with it.
What is McArdle 's disease? It is a rare skeletal muscle disorder (Choleva, A.J. 2011). 1 in 100,000
persons is affected by the disease. The disease gets its name from Dr. Brian McArdle. McArdle 's
disease is caused by a missing enzyme, myophosphorylase C. This breaks down glycogen (which is
the body form of stored energy) into glucose (sugar).
People who have McArdle 's disease often appear lazy. Just to look at them, they seem to be very
healthy. In order for someone to have the disease both parents would have to have the defective
gene. This is called autosomal recessive inheritance pattern ("McArdle 's Disease Overview &
Facts" June 2014). You are born with the disease but some

How Is Snowball Into A Mountain Of Trouble?
It's funny how the smallest of comments can snowball into a mountain of trouble. I guess it's the
silence that really hurts the situation, beating it into a pulp of what it used to be. I have very few
friends, and that can sometimes come in handy or hurt me in unimaginable ways. Now I know that
I've said some things I shouldn't have said before, but it's usually stayed the small incident it is.
There has only been one time in my life where I have been in some deep trouble due to saying
something I shouldn't have said. It all started in science class. I was intent on finishing my work,
like most other kids rushing to beat the bell. My friend, Robert, was sitting next to me. Being a
genius, he had already finished all of his work. He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

looked at me. The teacher didn't notice my scream but did notice the absence of pencils scratching
against paper. He told everyone to get back to work, so they did. I looked to my right to apologize to
Robert, but he started getting up to leave because of the bell. I felt truly terrible. I hadn't meant what
I said and shouldn't have said it, but I still thought the whole thing would blow over in a matter of a
few minutes. I couldn't have been more incorrect. The next class was a bore, as usual. I wasn't really
thinking about Robert and what I had said until I felt a poke from behind. I heard a small hissing
noise. "Psst," the mysterious entity said. I turned around to see that it was one of my worst enemies,
Dylan. "Hello, Dylan," I hissed to him not unlike Jerry Seinfeld encountering Newman. "Hello,
Fonseca," he responded in the same manner. "I heard that you were bad–mouthing Robert, like the
coward you are. I'm pretty sure I saw him taking an alternate path to class, to avoid you." Oh man, I
thought. This isn't going to end well. "Just stay away from me, Dylan," I told him. He sat back in his
chair, having accomplished his mission. "Your grave," he said. That period was the hardest I've ever
had to stand. As soon as the bell rang, I got up and sprinted to my third class. Neither Robert nor
Dylan were in this

Essay on The Popularity of Seinfeld
The Popularity of Seinfeld
Add a dash Elaine, a spoonful of Jerry, a pinch of George, and handful of Kramer and you end up
with a perfectly seasoned spicy sitcom that Americans just can not get enough of. Seinfeld, featuring
the hilarious stand up comedian Jerry Seinfeld himself, is dear to many of our hearts and the show
plays an essential part in satisfying our constant quest for humor. The show focuses on real life
situations and problems such as romance, friends, careers, and adventures that everyone can relate
to. I believe that Seinfeld is attractive to most people for a variety of reasons. For these reasons the
shows success was inevitable. Each of the characters has it's own unique personality and by using

Jerry's contribution to the fearsome four is as important as the peanut butter in a peanut butter and
jelly sandwich. It's great by itself, but even better with its complements. His character appeals to the
sensible and laid back audience because they can relate. However, the complete opposite types
swoon over him because they envy the qualities that they would like to possess. I would have to say
that Jerry is mostly responsible for the shows immediate fame and without him Seinfeld just
wouldn't be Seinfeld. Jason Alexander, who plays George, has a unique combination of traits that
make him irresistibly hilarious. He pulls off the sympathetic and charming sort while other times
he's purely devious and radical. He plays Jerry's sidekick and together they foolishly run around
New York City like kids in a candy store. Jason also has his share of accomplishments such as two
Emmy nominations, a Golden Globe nomination and two American Comedy Awards for best
supporting actor in a television series. George portrays the baldheaded stingy mastermind who's
always stirring up trouble and brewing up schemes to make him look cooler than we all know he
really is. His tendency to become easily red faced and throw random tantrums captures viewer's
attention. Because of George's love/hate relationship with his friends he is always a focal point for
the show. His short,

The Influence of Jerry Garcia on American History
The Influence of Jerry Garcia on American History The vocalist and guitarist of the Grateful Dead,
Jerry Garcia was one of the most influential musicians of the twentieth century, impacting both the
musical and cultural realms. Jerry Garcia was fated to become one of America's most influential
people ever since he was born into Jose Garcia's household. During his childhood, Jerry Garcia lived
in an environment that fueled his musical development and experienced many events that pushed
him closer changing the path of American music and culture. Jerry Garcia was a member of the
American 1960's counterculture and really embodied the ideals and goals of the group as a whole.

Jerry was not only interested in musical arts but he also drew and painted often and enrolled in the
San Francisco Art Institute to study and practice the visual arts. For his fifteenth birthday, Jerry
Garcia received an electric guitar, his favorite instrument so far; by this time, Jerry was already
playing the banjo and the piano. Soon after, Jerry joined his first band, the Chords, solidifying his
destiny as a musician. Jerry Garcia's most obvious influences deal with music and the modern pop
music band's role. He has changed the way music is produced, the way music relates to its listeners,
and how the band interacts with its fans. Jerry Garcia was the renaissance man of the 1960's singing,
writing, and playing many instruments including the acoustic, bass, and electric guitars, the banjo,
and the piano, which was a revolutionary idea for the time. He and the Grateful Dead worked to
successfully enable the elimination of a record company in the music world. Jerry Garcia and the
Grateful Dead all worked together– blending different musical genres– to create new styles of music
that will continue into modern day. Jerry Garcia is largely responsible for the revolution in the
identity of the music artist, for the increase in popularity of the live album, for the divergence of
many musicians from record companies, and for the changes in bands' touring style and interaction

Stand By Me Essay
Life is fragile, everything that knows life will eventually meet death; it is impossible to mention one
without the other. Humans have grasped the concept of life and death more so than any other
species, yet we still consider it one of the great unknowns. All man knows in regards to life, he
learns from his experiences with death. Man can look to many classic and religious texts searching
for the meaning of life, but the only way one can truly learn it is through experience. To many,
finding happiness means first coming to terms with the finite stretch of life one has and then making
the most of it. Many films try to breach the subject of the preciousness of life, but only a few seem

The use of narration helps to create a strong juxtaposition between Goride Lachance as a pre–teen,
and as a storyteller. Gordie's innocence is effectively brought to attention by how The Writer
describes the events transpiring on screen. Because the Writer's style of narration is omniscient, it
provides many opportunities for suspense and deeper meaning in each scene. While the narration is
mostly somber, there are a few instances of wit and humor to keep the story from becoming too
depressing. The use of narration also allows for the audience to jump into the action while the Writer
fills in any important missing information; without the Writer's brief descriptions and commentary,
the audience would undoubtedly become lost or bored. The effective use of narration allows for
flashbacks and jumping around inside the 1959 storyline. A great example of the effective use of
narration comes in the scene in which Vern overhears Charlie Hogan and his brother Billy
discussing the location of the dead boy, which Vern will soon tell the gang. As an audience it is
much easier to watch Vern's discovery than to simply hear his re–telling. The Writer is able to set the
scene of Vern digging underneath his house, by saying, "At the beginning of the school year, Vern
had buried a quart jar of pennies underneath his house. He drew a treasure map so he could find
them again. A week later, his mom cleaned out his room and threw away the map. Vern had been

Stargirl Character Analysis
The book Stargirl, written by Jerry Spinelli, is about a girl named Stargirl Caraway. Stargirl recently
enrolled in a new high school after being previously homeschooled. She was different from the other
students in several ways. Stargirl wore different outfits and acted differently from the other kids. She
plays her ukulele at lunch and she is nice to everyone despite not receiving the same treatment from
the other kids. After amusing behavior at a football game, Stargirl becomes a cheerleader and is the
most popular girl in school. However, Stargirl was cheering for the opposing team during basketball
season, the student body turned on her. After some time during the school year, the student body
accepted Stargirl for who she was after the dance. Throughout the story, Stargirl was treated too
harshly by the other students from the first few months of school when everything about her was
being judged and through her acceptance, eventual rejection, of her by the students. Stargirl came
into the school welcoming to her new community. Her niceness was surprising to the other students.
"In the hallways, she said hello to perfect strangers. The seniors couldn't believe it. They had never
seen a tenth–grader so bold." (Spinelli 10). Her boldness was also demonstrated by her participation
in class where she made up songs, asked questions that were different than the subject matter being
taught, sang happy birthday to people in the lunchroom and veering off track on the cross country
team. "We did not know what to make of her. In our minds we tried to pin her a corkboard like a
butterfly, but the pin merely went through and away she flew." (Spinelli 15). The activity in which
Stargirl began to showcase her personality was cheerleading. What started out as a joke to the
community with her crazy dancing and cheers led to Stargirl becoming a cheerleader for the football
and basketball teams. "The change began around Thanksgiving. By December first, Stargirl
Caraway had become the most popular girl in school. How did it happen? Was it the cheerleading?"
(Spinelli 36). Up to this point, the students went from questioning Stargirl's differences to accepting
them in three months. Stargirl was quickly

Death is Unpleasant, My Friend
The Litigator got what he wanted. A copper–tinted key that appealed small in his palms, yet was as
heavy as a stone. While looking at an unmarked gravestone, another man bled eternally in the six
foot hole. Despite the man's dedication to not move his palm from the wound, most of the blood had
flown out of his body and into the soil. Taking a look at the man in the grave, the Litigator caressed
the left side of his stubble with the tip of his index finger. Drips of precipitation occasionally
interrupted his finger from stroking the hairs. It rained for six days; no sunshine was seen.
Moonlight was all that provided a visionary source in Portland. "Once you enter, you will see why
they are sixes and sevens." The man in the grave commented. The Litigator let out a sudden guffaw
and responded calmly with, "Your comments won't matter once you're down there forever. Alone.
Six feet under. Where nobody can here peep a word." he paused momentarily. "Death is unpleasant
my friend" The man became fearful after hearing this sad, yet true comment that his chest reacted
with a small reflex, causing goose bumps to form everywhere on his body. The Litigator reached for
his black pistol in the back pocket of his jeans. He aimed the barrel at the man's forehead. Giving a
slight force on the trigger, a bullet gusted out of the gun and penetrated into the man's forehead.
Blood quickly pooled from his head. The Litigator was not interested in staying at the cemetery for

The King of Comedy Life of Jerry Lewis

can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not differ nor neglect it, for I shall not pass

devoted his life to entertaining others and putting a smile on their faces. Although he did suffer

(Shaviro, 1). "On July 25th of the year the two made their last nightclub appearance together at the
Copacabana, exactly 10 years to the day since they became a team" (Shaviro, 1).
Jerry then met a female by the name of Patti. "Jerry and Patti were married by a justice of peace in
Greenwich Connecticut" (Levy, 50). Patti was a Catholic but did not wanted to convert to Judaism
because she felt secure in her faith since childhood (Levy, 50). "In April of 1943, before the
authority of a rabbi and the watchful eye of Rae, Danny, and a small brood of aunts and uncles, and
cousins, Jerry and his six month pregnant wife stood under a Chuppah to be married once again"

Call Of Duty Black Ops Ad Analysis
Call of Duty: Black Ops, a high–quality game full of exhilarating and intense combat. The Call of
Duty: Black Ops ad is pretty much a mini action film with neverending gun fire and explosions,
jumping from one action–packed scene to another. However, instead of soldiers wielding assault
rifles, shotguns, handheld missile launchers, etc. there are everyday people, hinting at the title of the
ad "There's a Soldier in All of Us." It was greatly anticipated that the Call of Duty: Black Ops'
commercial ad would exhibit the same qualities as the videogame itself. The Call of Duty: Black
Ops "There's a soldier in All of Us" ad uses a diverse cast, over–the–top Hollywood–style action,
and thrilling music to enforce the theme of the ad, creating a mini action movie to appeal to the
consumer's need and want to be a part of the action. The Call of Duty: Black Ops ad certainly
incorporates the slogan "There's a Soldier in All of Us" into the ad with a diverse cast. The ad uses a
cast of people of different ages, gender, social status, and cultural backgrounds dressed as regular
everyday people in place of a cast in soldier uniforms. According to David Vinjamuri (2015), "the
increased diversity in television, film and advertising is based on sound marketing principles simply
put, we are more likely to identify with someone that looks like us" (para. 6). The whole ad uses the
persuasive technique Pathos to create "an emotional response in the consumer," (Rosenau, 2012) a

Descriptive Essay About Father
A warm smile and kind eyes is what attributes to a man, known as my father. He works hard and is
diligent, but what defines him is the kindness that is always visible within him. My father, Ben
Morgan, is forty–eight with light brown hair, and turquoise eyes that always have a sense purpose in
them. From years of thinking, he has lines that rest by his eyes accompanied by the usual lines that
encircle a smile he shows to all. My father has a kindness in him, in which no one in our family has.
A few examples are: helping strangers in need, doing charity events, and putting his family above all
else.
In particular, what makes my father have this kindness is he assists strangers in need. To explain,
one day we were driving to a Lowes near our house, I had not noticed, but apparently two older
ladies were walking in the opposite direction and one of them had fallen. My father had seen this
and when it was safe to do so had turned around in the silver dodge ram truck he was driving. Once
he caught up to them he had offered a ride to them, and it had turned out one of the woman had a
medical condition that was affecting her there and then. Thankfully it was not too serious, but it had
prevented her from walking normally. Once we reached their destination, they thanked my father
and praised him. While helping the two older ladies may be seen as a task anyone would do, no one
else had stopped, pulled over, and offered assistance to the two older ladies. In today's world it is

Summary OfThe Yellow Pill Short Story
Sanity is in the mind of the beholder; one man's reality may not be the reality of everyone. This
becomes a sticking point when two men meet in either a psychiatrist's office or in the depth of space
in the short story "The Yellow Pill." Since both men cannot be in reality, the story takes place in a
comfortable office based on evidence from the story. Throughout the story, Mr. Elton talks with
Gerald Bocek in his office about the details of Jerry's crime. It is at the end of each conversation
they have in the office that proves them to be on Earth. Mr. Elton tells the police officers to take
Gerald out of his office and back to the mental ward. For example, after their first conversation Mr.
Elton says, "All right, take him away. Bring him back the same time tomorrow." The two officers
pushed him firmly toward the door. The officers taking Gerald out of his office every time they talk
shows that they are on Earth and not in space. Gerald would die immediately if he was taken outside
of a spaceship, because of the lack of atmospheric pressure and oxygen. Gerald also comes back into
Mr. Elton's office each day which means he couldn't have died in space, which would be caused
from leaving a spaceship every time Mr. Elton and him talk. In the story Mr. Elton is discussing the
problems about Gerald Bocek with Helena, but before they had started talking Gerald had told Mr.
Elton to take a pill and that nothing bad would happen. During Mr. Elton's conversation with Helena
he says, "I took one three years ago when they first became available. You'd be surprised how little
you actually see of what you look at, especially of people. You look at symbols instead. I had to
cancel my appointments for a week." Mr. Elton is proving that the pills blurred his sense of reality.
This shows that the pills cause hallucination and the reality Gerald is living in is a messed up reality,
furthering the argument for why they are on Earth. Towards the end of the story after Mr. Elton has
taken the yellow pill and Gerald ejected himself from what they considered the airlock. When
Gerald had ejected himself it is described as, "Jerry's chest quickly expanded, then collapsed as a
mixture of phlegm and blood dribbled from his

Aubrey Drake Graham's Houstatlantavegas Quotes
The song I've chosen to write my paper on is called "Houstatlantavegas". Aubrey Drake Graham is a
Canadian born singer and songwriter, who records under his middle name Drake. Born October 24,
1986, met an agent of his father's friend. The agent had helped him pick up a role on a Canadian
television show called "Degrassi", playing the role of Jimmy Brooks. Brooks in the show, is a
basketball player who was shot by a classmate and became disabled. With his mother being sick, he
had grown up very poor. His father was a drummer who worked with Jerry Lee Lewis. Drake
growing up lived two different lives, while heavily affected by his parents' divorce. In Toronto, he

The Argument For The Elimination Of Television
Approximately twenty five billion dollars is spent on advertising a year, a number far greater than
the amount spent on education nationally. Why so much money? Jerry Mander in his book Four
Arguments for the Elimination of Television, lays out the numerous problems that exist with
television, a problem that cannot necessarily be improved. In essence, technology is not a tool that is
neutral. Mander describes that in different institutions and technologies, such as advertising, mass
production, militaries, the basic structure of particular technology or institution establishes its
influence on the world, the types of individuals that will make use of it, and how people will use it.
Television is a tool that established the kinds of effects it will have on peoples lives, how people will
use it, and who will use it, and if such technology continues to be used, the kinds of effects and
political forms that will result from it. Mander develops four arguments throughout his book. The
first argument Mander describes is that television conditions people to accept another person's
authority. He begins by explaining that although television might be interesting and useful it packs
people into a mental as well as a physical condition suitable for the appearance of autocratic control.
Artificial environments, therefore, strip individuals of obtaining direct knowledge of nature. He
follows his second argument by stating that technological advances are controlled by the "powers

Jerry Lewis Analysis
Citric of the critic a critical thought.
In both of the articles referring to Lewis neither make very good arguments in my opinion, which is
the point/goal of many critics: to gain (or at least appeal to) an audience that has their point of views
and to establish a reputation as a writer and a critic which develops a following and somehow makes
them qualified to tell their readers what is good and/or bad. Both articles take the stance of
stereotyping cultures and what they think when it comes to Jerry Lewis. Stereotyping is a problem
in the world, something which I feel is the point of many critics but does not sit well with me. They

As a critic and writer the author loses his reader in the first paragraph making it difficult to want to
continue reading, "American Fascination with the French critical application of Lewis." (Selig 42)
Who cares what other countries critics view films produced in other countries? If the French like
Lewis let them like Lewis, it's their choice and opinion. American critics were worried about how
the French perceived and stereotyped American's, "undermine the presentation of a unified male
subject and thus the conventional Hollywood representation of Masculinity." (Selig 46) How the
French view American males during the time is not the fault of Lewis. His work was appealing to
the French (and many American movie goers) because he was making comedies to lighten the mood
of the times. From the information in both articles an argument for or against Lewis got lost and
became more about how American critics perceived the French interpretation of Lewis as an auteur.
That is the French were more impressed with Lewis because of his style in presenting the topics
within his films. American critics seemed to be appalled that Lewis was the French's perception of
what American male life was like. However, Is it ok that Americans think of the French as all having
berets, wearing black and white striped shirts, riding bikes with baguettes in their basket? This is an
American stereotype vs the French who may think all American males are funny and stupid acting

Jerry Lee Lewis Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame
Jerry Lee Lewis deserves to be in in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. He deserves to be in the Rock &
Roll Hall of Fame because he changed the way that people thought that Rock & Roll should be. He
introduced the piano to the Rock & Roll scene which was unique at the time and people thought
that, that was amazing. He also brought in a new attitude towards what people in Rock & Roll
should be like, he was seen as the bad boy of Rock & Roll. One issue that occured with his third
wife put his career in a setback and he stopped producing hits and canceled the rest of his tours.
Jerry Lee Lewis deserves to be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame because he introduced the piano to

Tom Cruise Case Study
Tom Cruise is one of Hollywood's most recognizable celebrity worldwide and thus a perfect subject
to break down three psychological concepts seen throughout the media. Motivational bias, where
people sees what he wants to see, (1) is the first topic we will cover about Tom Cruise. During the
filming of the movie "Mummy" which was originally scripted as a horror & thriller movie, the
leading star Mr. Cruise decided to take over and change the script to more of an action movie
because he personally thought the movie would be not only better but more successful. Another
concept that goes hand in hand with motivational bias is our next topic about Self–fulfilling
prophecy, a prediction that becomes true (2). The Mummy, unfortunately was a box office flop. Tom
Cruise predicted that if he made all these changes to the script and increased the movies spending
budget that it would be successful, but that not ended up being the case. Scientology is popular
amongst the celebrities but Tom Cruise without a doubt has made it abundantly clear about his
connections with the church and this is where our third concept comes into play of the route of
persuasion. Moscovici Theory, how the minority can influence the majority, (3) explains the
breakdown of Mr. Cruise's views and beliefs of his Church to the public eye during sit down
televised interviews.
Tom Cruise, the hollywood heavyweight, is the man to psychologically break down for his unique
characteristics and the stories he crafts. Mr.

The Layers Of Lies : How Memories And Truths Are Created...
Layers of Lies
I can see that the truth is a mirage. To put it simply, there is a real truth between hundreds of layers
of manufactured truth. The truth I may know at a moment in time will be altered if a second point of
view is added to my truth; the truth is therefore an illusion. What one person may regard as the truth
is different from what another may believe and that is because we absorb specific moments of time
based on what we think is important and that is how memories and truths are created or dare I say,
manufactured. In relation to the short story "In a Grove" by Akutagawa, you can clearly observe this
phenomena, as I choose to call it, occur. The bandit, wife, samurai and witnesses have all chosen to
absorb specific moments of this event. The question I place forward is, is this deliberate or
unintentional? Or is this an effect of cognitive biases? There is truth in the midst of the confessions
of the parties, somewhere between the journey to Wakasa, meeting the bandit and the death of the
samurai, lies the truth. One truth is clear, a man, woman and a horse can be held constant. The
woodcutter revealed that he saw a man and a woman on a horse. The policeman admitted to
arresting Tajomaru (the bandit) and attested to seeing a horse not too far away from Tajomaru. What
should be deciphered now is, did the priest see Tajomaru, the horse and the wife or did he see
Takehiko (the dead man), the horse and the wife? Time is relative during

Does Competition Make Us Better
Caleb Dickson
Professor Mitchell
English 1101
October 25, 2014
Does competition make us better? Everyone from the time they are born until the time they die are
involved in competition. The way people see competition in their life is through sports, school,
work, and sibling rivalries. Some say that it is unhealthy to be competitive in life, but competition
encourages people to do great work. In life we compete over a lot of things. When applying for a job
or college you are competing against all the other applicants and whoever has the best resume gets
the job or accepted in the school. So, this bears the question does competition make us better?
Competition teaches us how to be better people. Losing is not a bad thing. The biggest argument that
people have about competition is it decides a winner and a loser. They argue that this is unhealthy to
people. This was said by the students in Professor Mitchells English lesson during a class discussion
one day. What they failed to mention is that people learn from losing. In order to lose, a person has
to make a mistake or not be as good as the other person. Losing can cause a person or team to have a
low self–esteem, but it can also encourage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Sports Marketing: The Agent Athlete Relationship and...
Due to the nature and complexity of contracts, agents are expected to have a background in contract
law and be knowledgeable in finance, business management, financial and risk analysis, and of
course, sports. In order to be a successful sports agent one must not only be a great negotiator, but
also be highly motivated, have exceptional communication skills, be prepared to work long hours
and handle multiple tasks at the same time.
An agent must be able to apply effective marketing principles. The "Four P's" of marketing are:
1. Product (or Service) – What does the athlete want from the agent? What needs does the agent
satisfy?
2. Promotion– How is the agent successfully promoting the athlete?
3. Price– What value does the athlete give ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An athlete prefers the best public image possible and to obtain that image the player must only
associate themselves with individuals that are held in high regards and highly respected in the
public's mind. An agent that has participated in questionable acts could taint an athlete's image.
Therefore, an athlete would want no association with that agent
A perfect agent would be an honest and loyal agent that abides by both federal and state laws
governing agent athlete relations. An agent that will always put the athlete's interest before their own
and be highly dedicated to ensuring the athlete gets the best deal possible in every situation that
arises throughout the athlete's life.
Ethical Issues
Athletes and the sports industry have turned into a multi–billion dollar business annually. Stacked
on top of that is that leagues and educational institutions receive multi–million dollar media
contracts each year. This is so that broadcasters such as NBC, FOX, and TNT have the rights to
broadcast that team or leagues games. The surge of money in the sports industry has led to an influx
of agents into the world of agent athletes.
Consequently, a fierce competition for client representation has arisen due to the overcrowded
nature of the sports industry with sports agents. This competition has sparked many agents to do
whatever necessary to reach an agreement with athletes. In

In a traditional point of view, humans are "above" animals, but the ability of the merchant to
understand the animals defies the traditional hierarchy. This decentralization of the relationship
between a human and an animal is significant in the fact that the words of a rooster end up
influencing the actions of a person (the merchant). The rooster represents the traditional patriarchal
concept of male "superiority" over female since he discusses a stern piece of advice with a dog, after
he "jumped on a hen and, finishing with her, jumped down and jumped on another" (Haddawy, 19),
displaying a behavior of control and disrespect over the opposite sex. The rooster indirectly advises
the merchant, through his conversation with the dog, to "fall on her" (referring to the merchant´s
wife) (19) and beat her with an oak branch until she has no desire to question her husband´s actions.
The merchant heeds the words of the rooster, and reestablishes the hierarchy of male over female
dominance by using impulsive and violent animal like brutality. Yet, the hierarchy of human–reason
dominance over animalistic behavior was diminished after the merchant followed the advice of his
cock. The Tale of the Merchant and the Demon also explores changes of hierarchies related to the
crossing of human–animal border. In the First Old Man´s Tale, the infertile wife of the old man,
driven by her jealousy, causes the death of the old man´s mistress, and

`` Gasoline Alley `` By Frank King
In Gasoline Alley, Frank King uses closure to take an average human being, Skeezix, and place him
into a surreal world, and in doing so immerses his readers in the fantastic wonderlands they observe.
In The Superman Chronicles, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster do the opposite by using closure to take a
surreal being and place him into the real world of the readers to show how alien Superman is to
planet Earth. For clarity, closure is defined in Scott McCloud's Understanding Comics as,
"Observing the parts but perceiving the whole." Simply put, closure in comics allows the reader to
become an active participant in the story. This participation allows the reader to become fully
immersed in the world of the characters which leads to an experiential connection between the
reader and the character. In order to understand how real and surreal are to be interpreted in this
paper, they must be defined. The Merriam–Webster Dictionary defines surreal as, "marked by the
intense irrational reality of a dream," and defines real as, "not artificial, fraudulent, or
illusory...occurring or existing in actuality." The creators devise diametric plots, but the use of
closure as a mechanism to create the immersive worlds in which their readers and characters coexist
are nearly the same. Frank King and Siegel & Shuster both use closure as a vehicle to convey the
concept that their respective characters are living representations of the opposition between real and
surreal, this is evident in

Cosi Fan Tutte Essay
..Year 12 English Essay..
Nowra's play is set in a 'burnt out theatre'. Discuss the importance of setting and imagery in
conveying Nowra's ideas in Cosi.
The burnt out theatre in Nowra's play 'Cosi' represents the life inside an asylum, a life that the
characters know all too well. Life inside an asylum is portrayed as a dark, cold and isolated place,
where the outside world is not often talked about and for others almost doesn't exist. Most of the
characters cannot handle reality but for Nowra is is about exposing the hard times and the difficult
lives of the patients. Lewis is fresh out of university and took on a job as a play director at the
asylum, but is a bit unsettled when he first inspects the theatre that they will be ... Show more

Doug hates them because he likes to be naturally high all the time. Zac likes them because
everything passes like he's in a dream or limbo. I think I'm a naturally addictive personality. I like
what they give you here, because not to be on drugs, whatever sort, is like being in limbo for me.
Drugs make me feel sort of living. Completely opposite for Doug.' (Pg36–37) Non of the patients
would be in the institution if they could cope with the outside world.
The asylum introduces a new world to Lewis, one that is far from his own life,'Asylums are the most
inefficient places on this earth.'(pg 58) One that will challenge him to be more outspoken, more
attentive and more of a leader. This is shown when Roy tries to do Lewis' job for him and complains
about Lewis' directions. 'Couldn't direct a poofter.' (Pg10) Lewis gets emotionally attached to the
patients and more or less throws his relationship and education out the window to help fulfill their
dream, 'Cosi Fan Tutte'. 'It's not the fact that you've let me down, Jerry, it's more the fact that you've
let everyone down. [He looks at the theatre] This theatre could have been ringing with the music of
the spheres, instead of that, a dreadful silence has descended upon us.'– Roy. Lewis helps them come
out of their shells and see their true self worth.
Nowra's setting of the burnt out theatre has a big role in the lives of the patients, it shows the
conditions that the patients lived in before Lewis discovered them

Stand By Me Essay
Life is fragile, everything that knows life will eventually meet death; it is impossible to mention one
without the other. Humans have grasped the concept of life and death more so than any other
species, yet we still consider it one of the great unknowns. All man knows in regards to life, he
learns from his experiences with death. Man can look to many classic and religious texts searching
for the meaning of life, but the only way one can truly learn it is through experience. To many,
finding happiness means first coming to terms with the finite stretch of life one has and then making
the most of it. Many films try to breach the subject of the preciousness of life, but only a few seem
to hit as deeply as ones told through the eyes of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Stand By Me (movie Review For Small Group Com) Essay
A Summer To Remember
The movie Stand By Me is based upon a novel by Steven King. It doesn't have the same eerie feel as
some of his other books and is generally a more serious movie. It takes place in the small town of
Castle Rock, Oregon. It is the middle of the summer in approximately the early 1960's. The kids are
bored and that is the setup for their adventure to go find a dead body in the woods.
The main role of Gordie LaChance is played by Wil Wheaton. He is having trouble in his life at this
time because he just lost his brother and his parents are having a very difficult time dealing with it.
Chris Chambers was played by River Phoenix. Chris is considered a loser ... Show more content on

Vern whines that it means they are all doomed and should go back. Vern also slows the group when
he refuses to go into the woods away from the tracks towards the trail. He then plays the role of
backseat driver (class notes) when they reach the swamp saying, "I told you we should have kept
following the train tracks". Vern hindered the development of the group. While they could have been
devoting time to the task at hand, they had to spend time helping him with trivial things like dealing
with him being scared when they are in the woods. While Vern slowed the group by challenging
many of the group's ideas, Teddy presented a much different challenge to the group.
Teddy is described in the beginning as being reckless and wild. He holds to that description right in
the beginning with two crazy incidents. When they leave in the beginning and are walking on the
train tracks, Teddy goes a little bit nuts and says he is going to dodge the train. It takes the entire
group to pull him away from the train tracks before the train comes. Teddy also becomes difficult
when the run away from the old man in the junkyard. When the old man calls his father "looney"
Teddy flips out. He starts kicking and punching even though he's on the other side of the fence. This
remains a problem with the group because they have to spend time comforting him before they get
back on the road again. On more then one occasion Teddy got in small fights with almost

Essay On Hero-Anti Hero

  • 1. Essay on Hero-Anti Hero Superman, Wonder Woman, Spiderman–what do all these characters have in common? They are all products of the human aspiration to be saved. The word hero is passed around too much these days. A hero is not a football player that scores the game–winning touchdown or the goaltender who saves his team from a loss. A hero is usually an ordinary person that did extraordinary things. A true hero is really never a hero at all; at least not in their own mind. However, there are various cases today in which we see the exact opposites of these characters, the anti–heroes. The anti–hero is one who cannot be classified as a hero, for that said character lacks natural heroic qualities. However, the anti–hero cannot be described as a villain either. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On his 40th Labor Day telethon in 2005, Jerry Lewis added Salvation Army fundraising for Hurricane Katrina to his usual Muscular Dystrophy Assosiation fundraising, though he also encouraged viewers to give to the American Red Cross. Not all of what Jerry Lewis has done has been good, but no hero is perfect. Aside from controversy from the community of disabled people with comments he has made, Jerry Lewis can still be considered a hero for the great charitable work he has done for the benefit of others. A reasonable example for an anti–hero could be Al Capone. Despite the common image that is portrayed in society of Al Capone, there was some that Capone did as good for others during the Depression. Part of the reason Capone was taken to task in this way was his status as a celebrity. Capone often tried to suppress his image and be seen as a community leader. For instance, he started a program to fight rickets by providing a daily milk ration to Chicago school children. Also during the Great Depression, he attempted to open up many soup kitchens for the poor and homeless. Although most of the money he used to do this may have been related to his selling or gang violence, or even his bootlegging of liqour, he still attempted using some of it for a good cause. He acquired a great deal of appreciation from abounding poor persons in Chicago for his blatant disregard of the Prohibition law that they loathed. He was percepted ... It became very popular and artists started to experiment with it which influenced the development of rock n roll throughout the 50's and 60's. Teenagers in the 1950's began to listen to a new style of music, it was rock n roll. Rock n roll in the 50's was just getting started and it was a simple beat. This type of music was loved by many American teenagers but disliked by their parents. Parents did not like it because their children were rebelling against their music from their generation and danced much more differently than the parents "to the horror of the older generation, their children were twisting, thrusting, bumping, and grinding to the sounds of rock n roll"(U.S. History) Many parents thought it was a bad influence on their children especially after seeing Elvis Presley on the Ed Suvillon Show. Sam Smith Critique Album Review of In the Lonely Hour by Sam Smith Singer, songwriter and now Grammy– award winning artist Sam Smith came into the wonderful country of America with a bang in early 2014. Not only did Sam Smith achieve the number 1 spot for 3 hit singles, he shattered the charts with his debut album and won the title of Best New Artist at the Grammy's. Sam Smith began his journey into music while living in the United Kingdom up until the age of 22. Once Smith achieved his Bachelor's degree, he made his way to the land of the free and the home of the brave to pursue a music career. This was not easy for Smith as he spent most of his undergraduate years scrubbing toilets to earn money to move to the United States and forfeiting time and relationships. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the song "I've told you now", Sam Smith starts off with a slow tempo and rhythmic beat that could easily be heard or recognized in a smooth jazz club. He then changes the tempo of the song by slowing down the beat, once again, and allowing a member of the string family to make its way into the song. The violoncello adds a sweet but subtle rhythmic tap to each beat that is heard in the song. With the violoncello instrument in the background, Smith uses his voice type of tenor to sweetly add emotion to the song. This emotion is very soft yet, direct and listeners can feel the pain through his voice. Quickly enough, Sam Smith changes his voice from tenor to alto, to stress the lyrics "Why the h–ll do you think I come here on my free will?" These lyrics help everyone to understand that the artist is upset but, yet enraged with what is going on within his life. • 7. Communication In Maniac Mageee In the book, Maniac Magee, Jerry Spinelli uses descriptive details, dialogue, actions, and thoughts to develop one of the main characters, Amanda Beal. I am Amanda Beale. I like to communicate. I personally think I am very good at it. I have three brothers one sister. I love books especially encyclopedias. I hope that you will let me teach at John T Baker Middle School. One quality that I have that would be good for this job is being able to communicate well. For one I communicate well with others. I speak with confidence and reason, depending on how the person is acting or the situation. For example once I had to say this to a person that was being a bully "I got a little brother and a little sister that crayon all over my books, and I got a dog that eats them and poops on them and that's just inside my own family, and I'm not gonna have nobody else messing with my books!" Even though I am clearly mad in this case I still spoke with confidence I spoke clearly and I had evidence for the situation I was in. Another example of me being communicating well is once I found my friend Maniac is a buffalo pen at the zoo late at night in the west side of town. I had to convince him to come home. This is what I told him " you do not have a choice. I am not asking you. I'm telling you. You are coming home with me, and you are going to sleep in my room, which is going to be your room– and I don't care if you sleep on the floor or the windowsill or what–but you are going to sleep there and not here." As you can see I am talking to Maniac about the fact that he will come with me and that he will not sleep in the buffalo pen. I spoke clearly stated my claim and told him what needed to be done. His shows that if I need something to get done I will communicate with the person. Finally I think I'm communicative because in my life I have probably gone through many stages. One of these stages was taking baths with my brothers. When I finally grew out of it I had to tell them, communicate with them. This is what happened " Then came a day when Amanda entered fourth grade, and she decided she was getting too old to tub it with her little brother and sister." This shows that Amanda decided to communicate with her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This was a job that he had been working at for thirty–three years. The muscles in his arms were tearing for no reason that we knew of and he was having some other health problems. It was very upsetting to both of us not knowing the outcome about his health and now no income as well. We had seen many doctors on many different occasions. We kept hitting a dead end. Finally, we were able to see a new doctor, a neurologist, and after examining my husband, he immediately said to my husband, "you have McArdle 's disease." It was a term that I was not familiar with at all. My heart dropped and I was not sure what we were up against. Understanding the limitations of a person with McArdle 's disease is the best way to live with it. What is McArdle 's disease? It is a rare skeletal muscle disorder (Choleva, A.J. 2011). 1 in 100,000 persons is affected by the disease. The disease gets its name from Dr. Brian McArdle. McArdle 's disease is caused by a missing enzyme, myophosphorylase C. This breaks down glycogen (which is the body form of stored energy) into glucose (sugar). People who have McArdle 's disease often appear lazy. Just to look at them, they seem to be very healthy. In order for someone to have the disease both parents would have to have the defective gene. This is called autosomal recessive inheritance pattern ("McArdle 's Disease Overview & Facts" June 2014). You are born with the disease but some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I guess it's the silence that really hurts the situation, beating it into a pulp of what it used to be. I have very few friends, and that can sometimes come in handy or hurt me in unimaginable ways. Now I know that I've said some things I shouldn't have said before, but it's usually stayed the small incident it is. There has only been one time in my life where I have been in some deep trouble due to saying something I shouldn't have said. It all started in science class. I looked to my right to apologize to Robert, but he started getting up to leave because of the bell. I felt truly terrible. I hadn't meant what I said and shouldn't have said it, but I still thought the whole thing would blow over in a matter of a few minutes. I couldn't have been more incorrect. The next class was a bore, as usual. I wasn't really thinking about Robert and what I had said until I felt a poke from behind. I heard a small hissing noise. "Psst," the mysterious entity said. I turned around to see that it was one of my worst enemies, Dylan. "Hello, Dylan," I hissed to him not unlike Jerry Seinfeld encountering Newman. "Hello, Fonseca," he responded in the same manner. "I heard that you were bad–mouthing Robert, like the coward you are. I'm pretty sure I saw him taking an alternate path to class, to avoid you." Oh man, I thought. This isn't going to end well. "Just stay away from me, Dylan," I told him. He sat back in his chair, having accomplished his mission. "Your grave," he said. That period was the hardest I've ever had to stand. • 13. Essay on The Popularity of Seinfeld The Popularity of Seinfeld Add a dash Elaine, a spoonful of Jerry, a pinch of George, and handful of Kramer and you end up with a perfectly seasoned spicy sitcom that Americans just can not get enough of. Seinfeld, featuring the hilarious stand up comedian Jerry Seinfeld himself, is dear to many of our hearts and the show plays an essential part in satisfying our constant quest for humor. The show focuses on real life situations and problems such as romance, friends, careers, and adventures that everyone can relate to. I believe that Seinfeld is attractive to most people for a variety of reasons. For these reasons the shows success was inevitable. Each of the characters has it's own unique personality and by using this formula ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jerry's contribution to the fearsome four is as important as the peanut butter in a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. It's great by itself, but even better with its complements. His character appeals to the sensible and laid back audience because they can relate. However, the complete opposite types swoon over him because they envy the qualities that they would like to possess. I would have to say that Jerry is mostly responsible for the shows immediate fame and without him Seinfeld just wouldn't be Seinfeld. Jason Alexander, who plays George, has a unique combination of traits that make him irresistibly hilarious. He pulls off the sympathetic and charming sort while other times he's purely devious and radical. He plays Jerry's sidekick and together they foolishly run around New York City like kids in a candy store. Jason also has his share of accomplishments such as two Emmy nominations, a Golden Globe nomination and two American Comedy Awards for best supporting actor in a television series. George portrays the baldheaded stingy mastermind who's always stirring up trouble and brewing up schemes to make him look cooler than we all know he really is. His tendency to become easily red faced and throw random tantrums captures viewer's attention. Because of George's love/hate relationship with his friends he is always a focal point for the show. Soon after, Jerry joined his first band, the Chords, solidifying his destiny as a musician. Jerry Garcia's most obvious influences deal with music and the modern pop music band's role. Humans have grasped the concept of life and death more so than any other species, yet we still consider it one of the great unknowns. All man knows in regards to life, he learns from his experiences with death. Man can look to many classic and religious texts searching for the meaning of life, but the only way one can truly learn it is through experience. To many, finding happiness means first coming to terms with the finite stretch of life one has and then making the most of it. The use of narration helps to create a strong juxtaposition between Goride Lachance as a pre–teen, and as a storyteller. Gordie's innocence is effectively brought to attention by how The Writer describes the events transpiring on screen. Because the Writer's style of narration is omniscient, it provides many opportunities for suspense and deeper meaning in each scene. While the narration is mostly somber, there are a few instances of wit and humor to keep the story from becoming too depressing. The use of narration also allows for the audience to jump into the action while the Writer fills in any important missing information; without the Writer's brief descriptions and commentary, the audience would undoubtedly become lost or bored. The effective use of narration allows for flashbacks and jumping around inside the 1959 storyline. A great example of the effective use of narration comes in the scene in which Vern overhears Charlie Hogan and his brother Billy discussing the location of the dead boy, which Vern will soon tell the gang. As an audience it is much easier to watch Vern's discovery than to simply hear his re–telling. The Writer is able to set the scene of Vern digging underneath his house, by saying, "At the beginning of the school year, Vern had buried a quart jar of pennies underneath his house. • 19. Stargirl Character Analysis The book Stargirl, written by Jerry Spinelli, is about a girl named Stargirl Caraway. Stargirl recently enrolled in a new high school after being previously homeschooled. She was different from the other students in several ways. Stargirl wore different outfits and acted differently from the other kids. She plays her ukulele at lunch and she is nice to everyone despite not receiving the same treatment from the other kids. After amusing behavior at a football game, Stargirl becomes a cheerleader and is the most popular girl in school. However, Stargirl was cheering for the opposing team during basketball season, the student body turned on her. After some time during the school year, the student body accepted Stargirl for who she was after the dance. Throughout the story, Stargirl was treated too harshly by the other students from the first few months of school when everything about her was being judged and through her acceptance, eventual rejection, of her by the students. Stargirl came into the school welcoming to her new community. Her niceness was surprising to the other students. "In the hallways, she said hello to perfect strangers. The seniors couldn't believe it. They had never seen a tenth–grader so bold." (Spinelli 10). Her boldness was also demonstrated by her participation in class where she made up songs, asked questions that were different than the subject matter being taught, sang happy birthday to people in the lunchroom and veering off track on the cross country team. "We did not know what to make of her. In our minds we tried to pin her a corkboard like a butterfly, but the pin merely went through and away she flew." (Spinelli 15). The activity in which Stargirl began to showcase her personality was cheerleading. What started out as a joke to the community with her crazy dancing and cheers led to Stargirl becoming a cheerleader for the football and basketball teams. "The change began around Thanksgiving. By December first, Stargirl Caraway had become the most popular girl in school. How did it happen? Was it the cheerleading?" (Spinelli 36). While looking at an unmarked gravestone, another man bled eternally in the six foot hole. Despite the man's dedication to not move his palm from the wound, most of the blood had flown out of his body and into the soil. Taking a look at the man in the grave, the Litigator caressed the left side of his stubble with the tip of his index finger. Drips of precipitation occasionally interrupted his finger from stroking the hairs. It rained for six days; no sunshine was seen. Moonlight was all that provided a visionary source in Portland. "Once you enter, you will see why they are sixes and sevens." The man in the grave commented. The Litigator let out a sudden guffaw and responded calmly with, "Your comments won't matter once you're down there forever. Alone. Six feet under. Where nobody can here peep a word." he paused momentarily. "Death is unpleasant my friend" The man became fearful after hearing this sad, yet true comment that his chest reacted with a small reflex, causing goose bumps to form everywhere on his body. The Litigator reached for his black pistol in the back pocket of his jeans. He aimed the barrel at the man's forehead. Any good therefore, that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not differ nor neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again"(TOJLCMS, 5). For Jerry Lewis, this was a common outlook he had. Jerry has devoted his life to entertaining others and putting a smile on their faces. Although he did suffer numerous struggles, Jerry Lewis has still successfully made it to the top (Lewis, 3). Joseph Levitch was born March 16, 1926 in Newark, New Jersey. The Call of Duty: Black Ops ad is pretty much a mini action film with neverending gun fire and explosions, jumping from one action–packed scene to another. However, instead of soldiers wielding assault rifles, shotguns, handheld missile launchers, etc. there are everyday people, hinting at the title of the ad "There's a Soldier in All of Us." It was greatly anticipated that the Call of Duty: Black Ops' commercial ad would exhibit the same qualities as the videogame itself. The Call of Duty: Black Ops "There's a soldier in All of Us" ad uses a diverse cast, over–the–top Hollywood–style action, and thrilling music to enforce the theme of the ad, creating a mini action movie to appeal to the consumer's need and want to be a part of the action. The Call of Duty: Black Ops ad certainly incorporates the slogan "There's a Soldier in All of Us" into the ad with a diverse cast. The ad uses a cast of people of different ages, gender, social status, and cultural backgrounds dressed as regular everyday people in place of a cast in soldier uniforms. According to David Vinjamuri (2015), "the increased diversity in television, film and advertising is based on sound marketing principles simply put, we are more likely to identify with someone that looks like us" (para. 6). He works hard and is diligent, but what defines him is the kindness that is always visible within him. My father, Ben Morgan, is forty–eight with light brown hair, and turquoise eyes that always have a sense purpose in them. From years of thinking, he has lines that rest by his eyes accompanied by the usual lines that encircle a smile he shows to all. My father has a kindness in him, in which no one in our family has. A few examples are: helping strangers in need, doing charity events, and putting his family above all else. In particular, what makes my father have this kindness is he assists strangers in need. To explain, one day we were driving to a Lowes near our house, I had not noticed, but apparently two older ladies were walking in the opposite direction and one of them had fallen. My father had seen this and when it was safe to do so had turned around in the silver dodge ram truck he was driving. Once he caught up to them he had offered a ride to them, and it had turned out one of the woman had a medical condition that was affecting her there and then. Thankfully it was not too serious, but it had prevented her from walking normally. Once we reached their destination, they thanked my father and praised him. • 37. Summary OfThe Yellow Pill Short Story Sanity is in the mind of the beholder; one man's reality may not be the reality of everyone. This becomes a sticking point when two men meet in either a psychiatrist's office or in the depth of space in the short story "The Yellow Pill." Since both men cannot be in reality, the story takes place in a comfortable office based on evidence from the story. Throughout the story, Mr. Elton talks with Gerald Bocek in his office about the details of Jerry's crime. It is at the end of each conversation they have in the office that proves them to be on Earth. Mr. Elton tells the police officers to take Gerald out of his office and back to the mental ward. For example, after their first conversation Mr. Elton says, "All right, take him away. Bring him back the same time tomorrow." The two officers pushed him firmly toward the door. The officers taking Gerald out of his office every time they talk shows that they are on Earth and not in space. Gerald would die immediately if he was taken outside of a spaceship, because of the lack of atmospheric pressure and oxygen. Gerald also comes back into Mr. Elton's office each day which means he couldn't have died in space, which would be caused from leaving a spaceship every time Mr. Elton and him talk. In the story Mr. Elton is discussing the problems about Gerald Bocek with Helena, but before they had started talking Gerald had told Mr. Elton to take a pill and that nothing bad would happen. During Mr. Elton's conversation with Helena he says, "I took one three years ago when they first became available. You'd be surprised how little you actually see of what you look at, especially of people. You look at symbols instead. I had to cancel my appointments for a week." Mr. Elton is proving that the pills blurred his sense of reality. This shows that the pills cause hallucination and the reality Gerald is living in is a messed up reality, furthering the argument for why they are on Earth. Towards the end of the story after Mr. Elton has taken the yellow pill and Gerald ejected himself from what they considered the airlock. When Gerald had ejected himself it is described as, "Jerry's chest quickly expanded, then collapsed as a mixture of phlegm and blood dribbled from his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. The Argument For The Elimination Of Television Approximately twenty five billion dollars is spent on advertising a year, a number far greater than the amount spent on education nationally. Why so much money? Jerry Mander in his book Four Arguments for the Elimination of Television, lays out the numerous problems that exist with television, a problem that cannot necessarily be improved. In essence, technology is not a tool that is neutral. Mander describes that in different institutions and technologies, such as advertising, mass production, militaries, the basic structure of particular technology or institution establishes its influence on the world, the types of individuals that will make use of it, and how people will use it. Television is a tool that established the kinds of effects it will have on peoples lives, how people will use it, and who will use it, and if such technology continues to be used, the kinds of effects and political forms that will result from it. Mander develops four arguments throughout his book. The first argument Mander describes is that television conditions people to accept another person's authority. He begins by explaining that although television might be interesting and useful it packs people into a mental as well as a physical condition suitable for the appearance of autocratic control. Artificial environments, therefore, strip individuals of obtaining direct knowledge of nature. • 51. Tom Cruise Case Study Tom Cruise is one of Hollywood's most recognizable celebrity worldwide and thus a perfect subject to break down three psychological concepts seen throughout the media. Motivational bias, where people sees what he wants to see, (1) is the first topic we will cover about Tom Cruise. During the filming of the movie "Mummy" which was originally scripted as a horror & thriller movie, the leading star Mr. Cruise decided to take over and change the script to more of an action movie because he personally thought the movie would be not only better but more successful. Another concept that goes hand in hand with motivational bias is our next topic about Self–fulfilling prophecy, a prediction that becomes true (2). The Mummy, unfortunately was a box office flop. Tom Cruise predicted that if he made all these changes to the script and increased the movies spending budget that it would be successful, but that not ended up being the case. Scientology is popular amongst the celebrities but Tom Cruise without a doubt has made it abundantly clear about his connections with the church and this is where our third concept comes into play of the route of persuasion. Moscovici Theory, how the minority can influence the majority, (3) explains the breakdown of Mr. Cruise's views and beliefs of his Church to the public eye during sit down televised interviews. To put it simply, there is a real truth between hundreds of layers of manufactured truth. The truth I may know at a moment in time will be altered if a second point of view is added to my truth; the truth is therefore an illusion. What one person may regard as the truth is different from what another may believe and that is because we absorb specific moments of time based on what we think is important and that is how memories and truths are created or dare I say, manufactured. In relation to the short story "In a Grove" by Akutagawa, you can clearly observe this phenomena, as I choose to call it, occur. The bandit, wife, samurai and witnesses have all chosen to absorb specific moments of this event. The question I place forward is, is this deliberate or unintentional? Or is this an effect of cognitive biases? There is truth in the midst of the confessions of the parties, somewhere between the journey to Wakasa, meeting the bandit and the death of the samurai, lies the truth. One truth is clear, a man, woman and a horse can be held constant. The woodcutter revealed that he saw a man and a woman on a horse. The policeman admitted to arresting Tajomaru (the bandit) and attested to seeing a horse not too far away from Tajomaru. What should be deciphered now is, did the priest see Tajomaru, the horse and the wife or did he see Takehiko (the dead man), the horse and the wife? Time is relative during ... • 57. Does Competition Make Us Better Caleb Dickson Professor Mitchell English 1101 October 25, 2014 Does competition make us better? Everyone from the time they are born until the time they die are involved in competition. The way people see competition in their life is through sports, school, work, and sibling rivalries. Some say that it is unhealthy to be competitive in life, but competition encourages people to do great work. In life we compete over a lot of things. When applying for a job or college you are competing against all the other applicants and whoever has the best resume gets the job or accepted in the school. So, this bears the question does competition make us better? Competition teaches us how to be better people. Losing is not a bad thing. The biggest argument that people have about competition is it decides a winner and a loser. They argue that this is unhealthy to people. This was said by the students in Professor Mitchells English lesson during a class discussion one day. What they failed to mention is that people learn from losing. In order to lose, a person has to make a mistake or not be as good as the other person. Losing can cause a person or team to have a low self–esteem, but it can also encourage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a traditional point of view, humans are "above" animals, but the ability of the merchant to understand the animals defies the traditional hierarchy. This decentralization of the relationship between a human and an animal is significant in the fact that the words of a rooster end up influencing the actions of a person (the merchant). The rooster represents the traditional patriarchal concept of male "superiority" over female since he discusses a stern piece of advice with a dog, after he "jumped on a hen and, finishing with her, jumped down and jumped on another" (Haddawy, 19), displaying a behavior of control and disrespect over the opposite sex. The rooster indirectly advises the merchant, through his conversation with the dog, to "fall on her" (referring to the merchant´s wife) (19) and beat her with an oak branch until she has no desire to question her husband´s actions. The merchant heeds the words of the rooster, and reestablishes the hierarchy of male over female dominance by using impulsive and violent animal like brutality. Yet, the hierarchy of human–reason dominance over animalistic behavior was diminished after the merchant followed the advice of his cock. The Tale of the Merchant and the Demon also explores changes of hierarchies related to the crossing of human–animal border. • 65. `` Gasoline Alley `` By Frank King In Gasoline Alley, Frank King uses closure to take an average human being, Skeezix, and place him into a surreal world, and in doing so immerses his readers in the fantastic wonderlands they observe. In The Superman Chronicles, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster do the opposite by using closure to take a surreal being and place him into the real world of the readers to show how alien Superman is to planet Earth. For clarity, closure is defined in Scott McCloud's Understanding Comics as, "Observing the parts but perceiving the whole." Simply put, closure in comics allows the reader to become an active participant in the story. This participation allows the reader to become fully immersed in the world of the characters which leads to an experiential connection between the reader and the character. In order to understand how real and surreal are to be interpreted in this paper, they must be defined. The Merriam–Webster Dictionary defines surreal as, "marked by the intense irrational reality of a dream," and defines real as, "not artificial, fraudulent, or illusory...occurring or existing in actuality." The creators devise diametric plots, but the use of closure as a mechanism to create the immersive worlds in which their readers and characters coexist are nearly the same. Frank King and Siegel & Shuster both use closure as a vehicle to convey the concept that their respective characters are living representations of the opposition between real and surreal, this is evident in ...
