Skid Row Homelessness Essay
Homelessness in Skid Row "It is a beautiful thing when folks in poverty are no longer just a missions project but become genuine friends and family
with whom we laugh, cry, dream and struggle." –Shane Clairborne Los Angeles, the city of angels, is known worldwide for its glamour and riches.
With its gleaming skyscrapers and palm–tree lined streets, people flock to this famous city in search of wealth and fame. What most people don't
know, however, is that less than two blocks away from one of the richest areas in the world lies the homeless capitol of the United States, Skid Row.
Over 254,000 homeless people are estimated to be living in Los Angeles each year. Included in this outstanding number are men, women, and children
that have... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Coming in close second, heroin is the second and most common drug found on the streets. Although more expensive than cocaine, it is still
common among the homeless. Dealers are not at all hard to find in Skid Row. In fact, outside dealers have even been known to flock down to skid
row just because it is where a huge majority of the addictions are. To most people's surprise, single mothers are becoming among the most common
of the skid row population. Researchers have also found that somewhere between 20 and 40 percent of the homeless sleeping on the streets at night
are made up of families with children. Another huge portion of the homeless population is the youth. This is commonly overlooked probably for
the sheer fact that it is hard to accept. It is hard to accept that there are teenagers and young adults who instead of attending $30,000 a year schools
are left scrounging on the streets for their next warm meal. They are two completely different worlds that seem almost impossible to coexist. These
high school to college aged men and women are most likely parentless. They are sometimes forced to rely on selling sex or drugs just to survive.
Going through all of this at such a young age undoubtedly has an influence on these kids and puts them at maturity levels that are most likely more
than twice that of their age. A life so hard for us

Essay about Short Story
Short Story
It was lying there, the battered and torn body. There was a moment of silence as detective David Whittle and I stared at the body. I could not
understand how this had occurred.
It had been a fairly quiet day at the station until I had received a phone call from a distressed mother, pleading for us to help. Her voice was hard to
understand as she was crying so hard. I traced the call to a small village just on the edge of Brighton, called Linden where a Miss Hutton lived. I
had visited Linden before as one of my old friends lived there. It was a quiet little town, which had nothing special about it. It was not far by car but I
was confused as to why we were going there, as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"What happened?" I asked.
She said that it had been an ordinary day up until about three o clock when she heard noise coming from upstairs.
"Well it was just then that I realised that there were more people than just my daughter Victoria upstairs. There was a loud crashing sound and she
screamed! I had not any idea that my daughter had just been murdered".
"Murdered you say".
She was still sulking as she said yes
"Did you see the murderer?" I asked.
She did not reply but just broke down in tears. Immediately our attention was drawn to the skid marks we had seen on our entry to the house. We
examined them and David, being a vehicle expert recognised that they had been left by a transit van. The name Gary popped into mind when he said
transit van as he had been known to speed around the local village, and I have arrested him on many occasions. He was a short black haired chubby
man who had a distinctive scar down the left side of his face. He always wore jeans that were ripped at the bottom, and he had small brown boots. He
was in his middle thirties and was not married.
David and I sat in our car and decided to ring the police station and tell them to look for the name Gary Myers in the police record books. Surely
enough when they looked they said that he has been in and out of the local police station

Little Shop Review
This evening I went to go see an anomalous play called Little Shop, which struck me as a fantastic performance put together by the ESU theatre
department. The plays setting took place in an area called "Skid Row", a large city somewhere in the U.S around the early 1960s. The characters
interacted either in the flower shop or outside of the flower shop. The only other scene that takes place in a different setting is when Seymour attempts
to kill Orin at his dentist shop. The area enclosing around the flower shop hint to have a high unemployment right as many homeless people appear on
stage at a given time in which begging for food and money. As a member of theaudience I could tell that the performances perspective was aimed to

An issue that I tried to ignore through the play but soon became very trouble sum for me was the continuous singing that would occur either by the
girl group or Seymour. I believe Act I was much stronger and more enjoyable overall than Act II. Act I opened up with the singing of the girl group
and initially the introduced the main characters of the performance by them interacting with each other throughout the flower shop. Mr.Mushnik was
the owner of the shop while Seymour and Audrey were employees. Audrey has a black eye from her boyfriend which she continues on to see which
troubles Seymour because he has a crush on her. Mr.Mushnik says he needs to fire them because they have been getting no busy. Seymour then
discovers a plant from a sketchy guy one day that he believes will draw in the attention of customers if displayed out of the window. Seymour names
the plant Audrey II after the name of his crush Audrey. As soon as he puts the plant out in display the business starts to bloom. Unfortunately, the plant
feeds on fresh human blood which causes Seymour to sacrifice his own

Working at The Bindery Essay
Working at The Bindery
I have a dream. I have a dream about getting a doctorate degree in music. Well, to get that far, I know I must get through undergraduate school first,
let alone graduate school, and so on. Last year I realized that I needed a job that paid much more than minimum wage if I was going to afford to go to
college. I then heard about The Bindery from a friend in the same situation as I was. I filled out an application, went to the orientation a few weeks
later, and then discovered that working there would be no ordinary job. I will now briefly explain how the factory works and then show you the
"ropes" of working in my department.
There are two major departments at The Bindery: the press and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tie any long hair back, and tuck in any loose clothing. You can wear gloves if you wish, but it is not mandatory. Bring water to keep yourself
hydrated, because it is very hot inside. Make out a time card for yourself at the beginning of the week and punch in early everyday. Since you will be
working afternoon shift with me, I can tell you the schedule of work. Monday through Thursday, work is from 3:30pm–11:30pm, with a 30–minute
lunch break at 7:30. Friday is 3:00pm–10:30pm. Saturday and Sunday (usually optional) is 2:00pm–9:30pm. No lunch break on these days. Every day,
there is a 5–10 minute break every two hours.
Now, I will share the steps to perform the duties of a gatherer in the bindery department. Place your belongings at the end of the line on which you
will be working, and out of people and fork truck traffic. Grab a bundle of forms from the skid by the string or by the ends, lifting with your legs,
and cautiously throw it up on the pocket. Bundles can weigh from 25 to 50 pounds, depending on the type of paper being used for the book. Throw
as many bundles as it takes to fill the pocket, making sure that the print on the spine of the paper is lined up correctly. This insures that the page
numbers will go in the correct order. A pocket usually holds about six or seven bundles to make it full. The number of pages in the book being made
determines the number of pockets

Analysis Of Living With Roaches And Mold In Skid Row Is My...
In this week's reading and video assignment, I learned a lot about living as a low–income individual on the streets and in substandard housing. In the
article "Living with roaches and mold in run–down apartments risks illness, injury" the author, Barbara Anderson, argues that living as a low–income
individual affects your health in many ways including mental state. Anderson addresses how people living in substandard housing acquire many
health conditions based on the wellness of the house. Homes being in substandard condition is seen as having mold, pests, and punctured screens that
will let in insects with infections. An infected mosquito can come in through a missing screen and give people infections with one bite. Parents are
overrun with stress because of the harmful conditions their children and themselves are enduring. The author uses many studies including The Los
Angeles Study as evidence to show how tenants were found physically and mentally ill with respiratory issues, viral infections, and stress because
of the conditions of the house. In the video "Lost Angels: Skid Row is my Home," more than half of homeless people living on Skid Row are
mentally ill. Many went to an asylum for help, but were rejected or had to leave. Much of the suffering endured by these homeless people is due to the
government not understanding them. The video shows a man cleaning the streets because the "city refused to clean the streets of Skid Row"
(9:57–10:00). Although no solution was

Analysis Of The Book ' Skid Row '
First off "Skid Row" is described as having a population of people that do not have "normal" lives (Bittner, 1967). This is subject to perception
because each person defines "what is normal" differently. What one person sees as normal could be seen to others as weird. Anyway for the sake
of the article. The people that reside in "Skid Row" as Bittner (1967) states "...is perceived as a natural habitat of people who lack the capacities and
commitments to live "normal" lives on a sustained basis. From my understanding of the reading "Skid Row" is basically an area in a city that is run
down and has been taken over by citizens that cannot afford to go anywhere else. It is the "Ghetto". Bittner (1967) describes "Skid Row" as "...located
in the heart of civilization, it is viewed as containing aspects of the primordial jungle, calling for missionary activities and offering opportunities for
exotic adventure." This leads to the need of patrolmen taking on the role of peacekeeping and law enforcing on "Skid Row" while implementing
containment strategies "...to contain it and to salvage souls from it clutches."(Bittner, 1967).
The most appropriate role for officers assigned to police skid row areas seem to be both peace keeping and law enforcing. "...patrolmen do not act
alternatively as one or the other, with certain actions being determined by the intended objective of keeping the peace and other being determined by
the duty to enforce the law. Instead, we have found that peace keeping

Biodiesel Case
Clinton Biodiesel, LLC Data Collection and Analysis Paper
The current issue for Clinton Biodiesel, LLC is that the plant is down and cannot produce biodiesel because of one of the processes within the
production are down, which is the degumming system. When the degumming is system is being used it will not function properly to remove all
gums and resin, which is causing the system to not fully complete its process to purify the diesel. If the diesel is not fully purified, it is worth less in
some cases or in worst cases it cannot be sold at all. The current method of the plant is to use corn oil; this method requires an extra process. The extra
process that is required is the degumming process or skid. Until, we are able to get the degumming ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I used a dot plot to compare the difference in the prices for the soy bean oil and rapeseed oil for both years. This helped to get an idea of which
product has had lowered prices consistently. One of the other methods I will be using is Hypothesis testing to confirm or refute my hypothesis of
which oil will be more cost effective for the plant. In the past rapeseed oil has been proven to be very cost effective and in most countries is sold
for less than any other oil. My Ho before conducting research and gathering data is going to be that rapeseed is the most cost effective oil
substitute to corn oil. My Ha is that it is not the most cost effective corn oil substitute. After conducting research, I have come to find that I have
rejected my Null hypothesis and determined that it is not the most cost effective alternative to corn oil and that rather soy bean oil is. The data is
telling me that half of 2015 the soy bean was lower and in all of 2014 the soy bean oil was lower. I don't think there is 100% correlation in this data or
that you could rely on it 100% because there was a slight dip in prices towards the end of 2015. But, it looked as though it was only for competition.
I think more research should be done in very serious situations where small numbers are going to make a large difference. I would say that this project
is a great example of one of these

Internship Report On Skid Internship
Final Report
In all honesty, I did not know what to expect when heading into this internship. I knew my boss on a personal level being that he is my brother–in–law
but I only had brief experiences working alongside him and his employees. The very first day Derek, my employer made his expectations loud and
clear he was to have 110% and nothing less. The first week on my internship I was assigned to sorting through seemingly endless amounts of red iron
and tin among other things with a skid steer. Overtime I went from having very little familiarity with the piece of equipment to having spent days
maneuvering through the mud and sand that was behind the shop. One day as I was riding I was reminded of a time in Mr. Fritt's Concrete class
where the class took turns learning to operate a skid steer belonging to OSUIT it was very satisfying to realize how far I had come.
The next week I received even more practice on the skid steer as I was told I was to spend quite a bit of time mowing a couple of different
locations with a brush hog and for the next few days that was the mission. I spent many hours on something that may have seemed meaningless to
many and learn to take pride in it. Mid way through the week I went to my first real site. The facility was owned by a company called Archrock. I
only spent a day there but in that little bit of time I was hit with a wealth of knowledge about compressors. I understood what the pipeline is about and
how it has brought convenience to every

Lost Angels: Skid Row
There are many people all over the world who suffer from mental illness and drug abuse. Most of the people are able to seek help and find
treatment for their illness, but others are not as lucky. Watching Lost Angels: Skid Row is my Home showed that not everyone gets a fair chance
to be able to seek help for their mental illness. The movie highlighted the challenges and stressors that someone who lives on Skid Row faces every
day. The lives that were documented over the span of the movie were impacted by either a mental illness, drug abuse, or by a medical illness. Many
of the people shown in the movie mostly suffered from mental illness or drug abuse. Bam Bam, whose real name is Albert, suffered from various
forms of mental illness. He mentions that he is bipolar, schizophrenic, has antisocial personality disorder, intermittent rage disorder, and has a gender
identity disorder. All of these disorders have wide variety of symptoms and to be suffering from all of them would be extremely difficult. Even though
he did not seem to show the signs of all these disorders, I feel that it would... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People think that because someone is different than them, they cannot be a functioning member of society. This stigma is caused by the lack of
knowledge people have on the subject of mental disorders. People may be uncomfortable addressing the topic of mental illness but that should not
stop them from wanting to help someone who is in need. Life is difficult for everyone but it is more difficult for someone who lives with a mental
illness and the movie definitely showed that. Everyone who has a mental illness deserves to be treated fairly and deserves to be able to have a good

Are you a landscaper trimming small trees and grass, or a contractor working on general park and lawn maintenance duties? Then you need a high
quality attachment that can help you and your skid steer tackle more jobs in a jiffy. Essentially, there are several kinds of these skid attachments that
you can choose from. However, keep in mind that selecting one depends on the job that you have at hand. If your operation requires cutting and
clearing of low ground shrubbery, what you then need is a heavy–duty slasher.
For today's review, let me review a particular model of this slasher attachment that has earned numerous good feedback from farmers and landscape
contractors. The model is the Southern Tool 1650mm Caterpillar Slasher. Read on to find... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay on The Containment Concept in Law Enforcement
One of the core roles of police officers is that of law enforcement. However, there are times that it is necessary for an officer to rely less on
enforcement of the law and instead concentrate on keeping peace in situations that exist outside of the norm. One such situation exists in the policing
methods used in "skid–row" type areas of society. These types of areas are an anomaly to the rest of standard communities where simply enforcing
the law will not be successful. The goal in these areas is to plainly contain the chaos using a hybrid form of community policing. Areas such as
skid–row are filled with people that are without the ability to function in normal society, and simply the fact that they exist is offensive to those that do

The containment approach allows officers to use their discretion and choose to intervene very little during the progression of minor crimes such as
loitering and public drunkenness as long as the perpetrators contain their actions to the specific "skid–row" area (Bittner, 1967). Where Brown (1981)
considers this as a decision to ignore a violation, Bittner (1967) describes it as an alternative type of action. Bittner (1967) describes three
classifications of peace keeping on skid–row. For containment to be considered successful an officer must first acquire specific knowledge about the
inhabitants of the area (particularization of knowledge), must discern when it is best needed for an individual to be arrested to keep peace (restricted
relevance of culpability), and focus more on the short term results than be concerned with long–term effects (background of ad hoc decision making)
because the citizens of these areas have little to lose and therefore have no type of future to be effected long–term (Bittner, 1967). If officers simply
enforced the law, it may result in displacement of the activity, as well as making the arrest/release of certain people a revolving door. By using the
containment of these areas, and keeping peace in those areas, officers may not be enforcing the law, but are preventing the spread of illegal behavior.
Often when one considers the concepts

Skid Row: Changing America
Changing Our America
Gentrification and police brutality is still prevalent in America. This is especially true for the people of Skid Row in Los Angeles, in which they
are treated poorly. People view the residents of that area as worthless or harmful in the community. However, what they fail to realize is that the
community is a benefit for residents there, because they are not able to pay bills and it is easier for them to live there. On the other hand, new people
are moving to Los Angeles daily which is why they are looking at Skid Row as a piece of land and are trying to get rid of it and the people there.
There has gradually been a decrease in human capital, and as a result of that, people with a deficiency in education have problems finding jobs.

On occasion, the police go around investigating the area and they stop and harass people for no reason. For instance, police would tell homeless
people to get off the streets or the sidewalks and go somewhere else, knowing they do not have a place to go. According to KK, who was also a
member of Skid Row, police harass African American men wearing white shirts and shorts because they "think" they are selling drugs. Rather than
doing a normal search to check for drugs, they yell and force people on the ground with guns pointing to their heads. That is not only prejudice, but it
is also taking advantage of their power. As an alternative, the city should hire police officers that actually care such as Officer Dion Joseph who has

put the pallet forks on at the push of the same two levers. I took off to go get started picking up the bales, but as you probably already know skid

We did this five or so times, then scooped one more load into the gator, and put the rest in theskid loader. By that time that spot was full so we were

The Importance Of The Skid Counselor Training Model
Professional counselors are very compassionate and caring people who tend to put others needs before their own, which can lead to burnout. Burnout
comes from stress within the job. Maintaining awareness of stressors for counselors is very important. Some ways to know that you're burning out is
when it seems you're dragging yourself into work, give advice as a shortcut rather than helping clients, begin sessions late and/or end early, doze off
during sessions, experience a decline in empathy, do things against the ethical code, push your theory amongst clients rather than listening and
changing your approach for the betterment of the clients and even when one feels relieved when clients cancel scheduled appointments.
Using self–assessment and plan coping strategies plays a big part in counselors self–evaluating themselves. And the SCTM helps counselors enhance
their skills. The Skilled–Counselor Training Model (SCTM) was developed by incorporating training of both low and high–level counseling skills
through having trainees learn about, observe, and perform skills, and then self–assess as well as receive peer and instructor feedback (Urbani et al.,
2002). Research has found the SCTM approach to reliably improve trainee counseling skills (Smaby et al., 1999), lead to skill transfer into work with
actual clients (Schaefle, Smaby, Maddux, & Cates, 2005), and enhance counselor self–efficacy (Urbani et al., 2002).

comprehend as to what the subject matter of the communication is, they can further deliberate with their managers anywhere else about the topic

more persons at different status without following any prescribed or official rules, formalities and chain of command in the organizational structure.

master franchisees to franchisees owners to programme managers/coordinators to programme assistants then to volunteers. Information can consist of
work orders and procedures. For example, at sKids, the main owner calls a meeting and all the franchisees are notified, they all attend a meeting and
the relevant information is then passed on from the director to all his franchisees.

Skid Row Duty
Accidents happen, nobody is perfect, things go wrong when people are under pressure. In Skid Row, California there was a burglary made to the
police and these officers responded to it. A homeless man that fit the description of the thief was shot and killed because of a gun
malfunction.(chappell). This man was reaching for the officer's weapon when he was shot. Chief Beck said "It appears to me the officers acted
compassionately up until the time when force was required"."Beck is promising a full investigation into whether the use of force was justified.

Farm Transition
As children, my grandfather offered my brother and me a job on his farm. He took the time to employ us for many reasons: cheap labor mainly.
However, for us, this opportunity offered much more. It gave us a source of income, character growth, experience, and most of all–it gave us
perspective. From about the fourth grade all the way up to the seventh, I spent my summers toiling on that one–twenty acre piece of land. Many of the
experiences that I have there play a significant role in who I am today. Over the four summers, I watched my grandfather's farm transition from growing
organic produce to farming livestock. The tasks that go along with both of these types of farming are demanding, and I faced with a few of them. I can

This experience was one of the most physically demanding I have ever completed. One of the workers sat in the skid steer that had the auger
attachment on it and dug the holes in front of us. Another one sat in the work cart that held the post and followed the skid steer placing posts at each
hole. My brother and I followed behind them. We each carried a spud bar, a seventeen–pound bar with one flat circle end that is about three inches in
diameter, and a shovel. We made a competition out of who could sturdily place their post the fastest. Each post took about eight minutes, after
figuring out the best way to do it. With every post I managed to put into the ground, I grew tired and hot. The sun burned down on us; my arms
had begun to feel weak, I was two post behind my brother. I remained like that for the remained of the day. By the end of the week, we had placed
over five hundred fence post. My body ached, and my hands had blisters covering them. Though I whined, I knew that had grown for this burden. My
grandfather's farm theoretically made me who I am. These tasks put me through adversity. They tested me in ways no other experiences would:
challenging my ability to persevere. I developed morals and values that have stay with me. One of such being the value of hard work. Up until these
tasks, I had not fully understood where hard work could get

Personal Narrative: Skid Row
It was a seemingly ordinary California night–warm and peaceful– as I turned a corner and walked down a street of makeshift tents, the only place
hundreds of men, women, and children could call their homes. The smell of alcohol and trash was overpowering. Used needles and garbage were
everywhere. People picked through the trash searching for anything that could keep them alive. The street was eerily quiet as everyone kept to
themselves. These people were suffering, and I could not bear to watch any longer. Junior year had just ended, and honestly, I was not looking
forward to a weeklong service trip across the country to start my summer. As a result, I came into the first day working in Skid Row with a closed
mind. As a privileged, private school student from Buffalo, I have never come close to witnessing poverty. I... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I found out that simply greeting or asking someone how they are doing can immediately change the course of someone's entire day. One person
that I began talking with was a homeless man named Joe. The most memorable quote from my conversation with Joe was, "When you have
patience, the whole world is beautiful." After hearing this from Joe, it made me think about whether or not I am patient in my own life. Joe
related patience to one's positivity in life; he did not seem to be worried about anything. If a person who lives in the streets of Skid Row could be
so positive, I knew that there was no reason that I should be any less positive than Joe. Joe's view on the relationship between patience and attitude
in the world was one of the most important things I took away from my trip to Los Angeles. I also learned a tremendous life lesson through my
interactions with Joe. Joe had every reason to be down, negative, and angry at the world for the position he was in. However, Joe chose to embrace
the virtue of patience as a way to create a positive attitude and outlook on the

An important factor to consider when buying a house is the location. Specifically, people pay attention to its immediate surroundings to grasp if the
area is safe. This notion is highly apparent in urban cities. Spanning a wide diverse area, Downtown Los Angeles is very intricate, consisting of many
different parts. For example, there is Little Tokyo that has numerous authentic Japanese shops and restaurants. It is one of the main tourist attractions
that people visit. Then, a couple blocks down, people will find themselves in Skid Row –the infamously dangerous territory. This area, in particular, is

I usually see law enforcement roaming around, and this makes me feel much safer. Another reason for this feeling of safety is that Westwood is located
near Bel–Air and Beverly Hills – prosperous neighborhoods. It is also much farther away from Skid Row. Therefore, seeing homeless people here is
not common and there are gated communities to keep out any possibility of danger. Westwood is an example of an area that Andrew Szasz discusses
called an "inverted quarantine." The gated communities reinforce this idea because the people within the community are isolating themselves –
keeping and pushing away specific unwanted people. They are essentially excluding themselves as well as protecting themselves from the outside
world by erecting a gate – or a barrier – to hide behind. Moreover, this area is quite far from other areas that have a low socioeconomic status such as
Downtown Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley. There are a lot of affluent families living here; thus, this indicates a much nicer area. After all,
people from a lower social class such as the homeless are unable to have the same luxuries that the wealthy can have for themselves. When I walk in
Westwood, I feel that I am out of harm's way, and I am much more comfortable walking around by myself. I can let my guard down because this area

Los Angeles Is A Problem For American Society
Los Angeles is a city where many important and famous people live. Most people think that most of the population living in Los Angeles is rich
because of famous places such as Rodeo Drive and Hollywood where most American movies are produced. The United States has a strong
economy, is very safe, and solves a lot of big problems outside the border. United States has a lot of organizations, associations and charities for
human rights; however, a big city like Los Angeles has a dark side, it has the highest percentage of homeless people, drug addicts and alcoholics in
the United States. Almost all of these people live in one neighborhood, which is called Skid Row. It is located in the southern part of Los Angeles. It

Since many of the migrant workers were single and male, the area also saw a proliferation of bars, whorehouses and other houses of ill repute, Today
there is a large mission presence in Skid Row which can trace its roots to that period (P1)."
The history of Skid Row starts in 1880 and continues until 1930 to serve the Los Angeles worker population; as the article "History of Skid Row"
explains better by stating:
"People escaping war and difficult conditions in other places came to Los Angeles to start a new life. More and more people came year after year, so
in 1930 there were around ten thousand homeless in Los Angeles. Skid Row started as cheap housing and homes for seasonal laborers but then
alcoholics, drug addicts, refugees and homeless came to stay there" (P1).
According to the same article: "In 1975, the area became part of the then newly adopted central business district redevelopment act"(P2). So it means
in the seventies, the Skid Row area became just like what we know today. The area is still poor and is a problem for the Los Angeles Community. "
Homelessness" is defined by Howard Bahr in his book Skid Row an Introduction to Disaffiliation as: "a condition of detachment from society
characterized by the absence or attenuation of the affiliative bonds that link settled persons to a network of interconnected social structures" (P17). The
definition describes the people who live in Skid Row because they are not settled and their social structure is

A Critical Analysis Of Little Shop Of Horrors
Not everyone loves musicals as much as others, but most people can recognize when someone says "FEED ME" or "DON'T FEED THE PLANTS".
The well–known musical Little Shop of Horrors took over the Dubois Little Theater this December under the direction of Ms. Shannon McNutt. Little
Shop of Horrors is a fun, musical about a "young botanical genius," Seymour Krelborn, his boss, and future foster father, Mr. Mushnik, and the young,
dramatic and attractive Audrey. Seymour was a shy and sheltered man until he found a strange and interesting plant, which he named Audrey Two after
his one true love, Audrey. The musical follows Seymour as he tries to get his sentient, bloodthirsty plant to grow so he can reap the benefits, but his
morals quickly catch up with him as he begins to lose everything that matters. I believe that this show was worthwhile to see and be part of. While
watching Little Shop of Horrors you can tell that it has comedic elements, but it also is somewhat dark and disturbing to watch Seymour's guilt and
grief consume him. It is clearly a dark comedy. This is made clear through many different aspects of the writing. The show deals with murder, death,
and world domination, but the characters are always sure to throw in a funny line or stop for a quick song. Though I enjoyed being part of this
production, I don't think it has a universal appeal by any means. During one of the shows, a young girl was watching Seymour feed fake body parts to
the plant at the end of act

Q: Ideally, what would you like to get from your suppliers? Noshirwani: When I look at my integrated supply chain of the future, I'm going to use
a phrase: a netted integrated supply chain. What does that mean? As Raytheon IDS works to become a Joint Battlespace Integrator, we will have
expertise over multiple domains. The challenge for our supply chain organization, then, is to take the suppliers who are expert in certain domains
and knit them together to allow us to create solutions to satisfy our customers' needs and support our business vision. Q: Does this mean that

Factors Influencing Dynamic Control Of The Helicopter Pilots
The helicopter pilots, in general, are required to be skillful in operations on both improved and unimproved surfaces. During normal or slope takeoffs
and landings with some degree of bank angle or side drift with one skid or wheel on the ground causes the helicopter to roll. When the rollover
happens, the lateral cyclic control response becomes more sluggish and less effective than for a hovering helicopter. Consequently, if a roll rate is
permitted to develop, a critical bank angle may be reached where roll cannot be corrected, even with full lateral cyclic, and the helicopter will roll
over onto its side. As the roll rate increases, the angle at which recovery is still possible is significantly reduced. The critical rollover angle is also
reduced. So, the goal of this essay is to cover the factors influencing dynamic control such as solo flight, cross wind, tail rotor thrust etc. and
understand the recognition of dynamic rollover, how to avoid it and steps required for recovery. In addition, the effects of critical rollover angle on
dynamic rollover and factors influencing dynamic rollover are also discussed.
Introduction:
An increasing percentage of helicopter accidents are attributed to dynamic rollover, results in destruction of helicopter and some serious injuries to the
helicopter pilots and crew. The dynamic rollover is a condition of power flight, where helicopter tends to roll laterally. When a helicopter is lifting off
the ground or it is hovering with one

Non-Skid Falls: A Case Study
To prevent falls, patients should be taught simple interventions that decrease their risk of falls. This applies to their stay in the hospital, as well as
when they go home. While planning what the patient should be taught, the nurse should consider the risk factors and circumstances surrounding the
patient's needs (Quigley 2015). Medications are one of the risk factors to consider. The elderly, in particular, are more sensitive to a drug's effects
(Savita et al 2015). Many medications cause dizziness or orthostatic hypotension, while others like antidepressants have a sedating effect. (Savita el al
2015). Patients should be instructed to move slowly when going from a sitting to a standing position. It is a good idea to teach them to stand for at
least one minute before beginning to walk. They also need to understand which medicines have a sedating effect, so they could plan their activities
around their medicine regimen. While in the hospital, it is best to make sure the patient is wearing non–skid socks (Quigley 2015). Further research into
evidenced based practice found a few important practices concerning non–skid socks. It is best for patients to ambulate in proper footwear instead of
the non–skid socks (Quigley 2015). This provides a good grip for the floor, while providing a support base for ambulation. Slippers are one type of ...

Many drug addicts do not have jobs or any legal means of generating income; they resolve to criminal activities such as theft, robbery, or aggressive
panhandling. Due to the addictive nature of drugs, the user will be compelled to want more and more in order to continue feeling "normal". It is what
fuels their addiction and as a result, a lack of motivation to do anything other than obtaining more drugs. The drug addict's family suffers from the
effects of the drug addiction as well through emotional stress and psychological decay. Drug addicts also encourage illegal drug trafficking by helping
fund criminal organizations. In fact, drug addicts are the reason why the billion dollar drug industry is as lucrative as it is. Without drug addicts, drug
traffickers would have no customers or buyers to help generate income. Huge amounts of tax revenue is going towards the war on drugs which includes
money going into police departments, border agencies, harm reduction programs, and anti–drug campaigns. The tax money being used to fight drugs
could be used to better our education or health systems; instead it is being used to fund harm reduction programs such as Insite.

The Problem Of Wet Pavement Clusters
Introduction: According to the United States Department of Transportation, there were approximately 2.6 million registered vehicles in 2014 and
with that number increasing over the past two years; the importance of studying our roadways and the materials that are used to produce roadways is
also on the rise [1]. There is a total of 2.7 million miles of paved roadway in the United States. The primary material for paving those roads is asphalt
[2]. Asphalt is a material that consists of bituminous oil mixed with sand and gravel. Asphalt makes a good material for paving roads because it is
cheap and easily accessible, however, it does have its downsides. Wet pavement clusters are sections of asphalt that become excessively slick after it
rains. This phenomenon can cause serious accidents that can be avoided by better understanding what causes wet pavement clusters to occur and then
researching different ways to stop them from developing. Research Questions: There are three major questions that need to be answered to decrease the
amount of wet pavement clusters in the United States. 1. What types of components can be added to asphalt to decrease the slickness of the pavement
after it rains? 2. Are there components that can increase the strength of permeable pavements? 3. Are there installation methods that can be paired with
new mix designs that increase permeability while still maintaining durability? Answering these three questions will not only revolutionize the way that

designed to remove the homeless and mentally ill citizens from the isolated, 50 by 5 block, Los Angeles streets, known Nationally as Skid Row. In the
end the S.C.I. violated these citizens civil rights and failed to meet any set obligations and responsibilities. Since the city of Los Angeles put this
initiative into motion, the city then became responsible for these people, as if they were the "parent" of these homeless "children". You can't kick a
homeless person off the streets, they're homeless. So where do they go if they aren't allowed on the street? Where do the mentally ill go if there are ...

Los Angeles has the highest homeless population in the country, double more than that of New York, with the shocking estimate of 83,347 people
living in Los Angeles County on the streets or in shelters on any one night, at any given point in time, and 224,203 annually in Los Angeles County (
excluding those in Long Beach, Pasadena and Glendale ). Including the estimates in Long Beach, Pasadena, and Glendale the total is approximately
91,000 people. 80%– 90% of the people in Skid Row are drug addicts and in Los Angeles County 21% of the homeless cited drug addiction as the
cause of their current situation ( в…” struggle with mental illness and addiction )
, and on average 10 out of 12 times they will relapse, making the success rate of staying clean 1 out of 6. The number one drug of choice is crack
cocaine, the number 2 drug is heroin ( approximately 100,000 users in Los Angeles County ), the next in line is methamphetamine. In 2000 – 2004 Skid
Row lost 1000 housing units. In 2005 there were 1,544 violent crimes on Skid Row, 10 times more than in Beverly Hills which is 8 miles away. This
is the city away from downtown. Skid Row has 5 major missions that service 6,561 homeless families. Midnight Mission was the first shelter to be
built in downtown Los Angeles. It was established in 1914 ,by Tom Liddecoat " father of the poor", as a refuge for the men of Skid Row. in 1922 the
midnight mission was given a non–profit status. in 1933 Henry Richman

Skid Row Argumentative Analysis
The term "gentry" is referred to landed people, or as it was known in the old British society, "the privileged", but in the 21st century it is known as the
upper middle class. Gentrification has gained the reputation as the modernization of urban neighborhoods. For centuries many metropolitan cities have
grown, become static, and perished. In this process a big part of the population have been forced to give up their lifestyle; therefore, leading to the
neglecting of public spaces and raising poverty rates. Many have come to believe that gentrification is the best solution for social stability and
economic growth . Gentrification has been triggering the loss of culture, dislocation of residents, and unaffordable housing for many hardworking...

The lack of house affordability might be one of the major problem that could also contribute to high numbers of homeless people in this country.
Many young people today do not have the money for a down payment or can't afford to buy somewhere. The whole concept of gentrification has
not been applied the way it should and since that happens it creates more obstacles for the ones that cannot afford a high rent, or house payment. in
other words it does not allow people to save money and to invest it correctly. That is why debt rates are really high specially with young people.
According to Dr. Housing Bubble, " In Los Angeles your typical 22 to 34 year old is spending close to half of their income on rent. This is higher
than many of the cities on the list. While cities like Dallas and Houston allow young workers to spend about a third of their income on rent thus
allowing them to save for a down payment on a home"(Dr. Housing,2015). If there were more opportunities for people to afford homes, that would
make a large difference in the current status of homelessness and low income families in this country and a lot of people would not oppose
gentrification. It would really help, if the landowners, investors, and hipsters thought about each other instead of focusing just in making profit. So it is
clear that although many support

Skid Row Homelessness Essay

  • 1. Skid Row Homelessness Essay Homelessness in Skid Row "It is a beautiful thing when folks in poverty are no longer just a missions project but become genuine friends and family with whom we laugh, cry, dream and struggle." –Shane Clairborne Los Angeles, the city of angels, is known worldwide for its glamour and riches. With its gleaming skyscrapers and palm–tree lined streets, people flock to this famous city in search of wealth and fame. What most people don't know, however, is that less than two blocks away from one of the richest areas in the world lies the homeless capitol of the United States, Skid Row. Over 254,000 homeless people are estimated to be living in Los Angeles each year. Included in this outstanding number are men, women, and children that have... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Coming in close second, heroin is the second and most common drug found on the streets. Although more expensive than cocaine, it is still common among the homeless. Dealers are not at all hard to find in Skid Row. In fact, outside dealers have even been known to flock down to skid row just because it is where a huge majority of the addictions are. To most people's surprise, single mothers are becoming among the most common of the skid row population. Researchers have also found that somewhere between 20 and 40 percent of the homeless sleeping on the streets at night are made up of families with children. Another huge portion of the homeless population is the youth. This is commonly overlooked probably for the sheer fact that it is hard to accept. It is hard to accept that there are teenagers and young adults who instead of attending $30,000 a year schools are left scrounging on the streets for their next warm meal. They are two completely different worlds that seem almost impossible to coexist. These high school to college aged men and women are most likely parentless. They are sometimes forced to rely on selling sex or drugs just to survive. Going through all of this at such a young age undoubtedly has an influence on these kids and puts them at maturity levels that are most likely more than twice that of their age. A life so hard for us ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Essay about Short Story Short Story It was lying there, the battered and torn body. There was a moment of silence as detective David Whittle and I stared at the body. I could not understand how this had occurred. It had been a fairly quiet day at the station until I had received a phone call from a distressed mother, pleading for us to help. Her voice was hard to understand as she was crying so hard. I traced the call to a small village just on the edge of Brighton, called Linden where a Miss Hutton lived. I had visited Linden before as one of my old friends lived there. It was a quiet little town, which had nothing special about it. It was not far by car but I was confused as to why we were going there, as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "What happened?" I asked. She said that it had been an ordinary day up until about three o clock when she heard noise coming from upstairs. "Well it was just then that I realised that there were more people than just my daughter Victoria upstairs. There was a loud crashing sound and she screamed! I had not any idea that my daughter had just been murdered". "Murdered you say". She was still sulking as she said yes "Did you see the murderer?" I asked. She did not reply but just broke down in tears. Immediately our attention was drawn to the skid marks we had seen on our entry to the house. We examined them and David, being a vehicle expert recognised that they had been left by a transit van. The name Gary popped into mind when he said transit van as he had been known to speed around the local village, and I have arrested him on many occasions. He was a short black haired chubby man who had a distinctive scar down the left side of his face. He always wore jeans that were ripped at the bottom, and he had small brown boots. He was in his middle thirties and was not married.

The plays setting took place in an area called "Skid Row", a large city somewhere in the U.S around the early 1960s. The characters interacted either in the flower shop or outside of the flower shop. The only other scene that takes place in a different setting is when Seymour attempts to kill Orin at his dentist shop. The area enclosing around the flower shop hint to have a high unemployment right as many homeless people appear on stage at a given time in which begging for food and money. An issue that I tried to ignore through the play but soon became very trouble sum for me was the continuous singing that would occur either by the girl group or Seymour. Mr.Mushnik was the owner of the shop while Seymour and Audrey were employees. Audrey has a black eye from her boyfriend which she continues on to see which troubles Seymour because he has a crush on her. Well, to get that far, I know I must get through undergraduate school first, let alone graduate school, and so on. Last year I realized that I needed a job that paid much more than minimum wage if I was going to afford to go to college. I then heard about The Bindery from a friend in the same situation as I was. I filled out an application, went to the orientation a few weeks later, and then discovered that working there would be no ordinary job. Throw as many bundles as it takes to fill the pocket, making sure that the print on the spine of the paper is lined up correctly. This insures that the page numbers will go in the correct order. • 8. Analysis Of Living With Roaches And Mold In Skid Row Is My... In this week's reading and video assignment, I learned a lot about living as a low–income individual on the streets and in substandard housing. In the article "Living with roaches and mold in run–down apartments risks illness, injury" the author, Barbara Anderson, argues that living as a low–income individual affects your health in many ways including mental state. Anderson addresses how people living in substandard housing acquire many health conditions based on the wellness of the house. Homes being in substandard condition is seen as having mold, pests, and punctured screens that will let in insects with infections. An infected mosquito can come in through a missing screen and give people infections with one bite. Parents are overrun with stress because of the harmful conditions their children and themselves are enduring. The author uses many studies including The Los Angeles Study as evidence to show how tenants were found physically and mentally ill with respiratory issues, viral infections, and stress because of the conditions of the house. In the video "Lost Angels: Skid Row is my Home," more than half of homeless people living on Skid Row are mentally ill. Many went to an asylum for help, but were rejected or had to leave. Much of the suffering endured by these homeless people is due to the government not understanding them. The video shows a man cleaning the streets because the "city refused to clean the streets of Skid Row" (9:57–10:00). Although no solution was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Analysis Of The Book ' Skid Row ' First off "Skid Row" is described as having a population of people that do not have "normal" lives (Bittner, 1967). This is subject to perception because each person defines "what is normal" differently. What one person sees as normal could be seen to others as weird. Anyway for the sake of the article. The people that reside in "Skid Row" as Bittner (1967) states "...is perceived as a natural habitat of people who lack the capacities and commitments to live "normal" lives on a sustained basis. From my understanding of the reading "Skid Row" is basically an area in a city that is run down and has been taken over by citizens that cannot afford to go anywhere else. It is the "Ghetto". Bittner (1967) describes "Skid Row" as "...located in the heart of civilization, it is viewed as containing aspects of the primordial jungle, calling for missionary activities and offering opportunities for exotic adventure." This leads to the need of patrolmen taking on the role of peacekeeping and law enforcing on "Skid Row" while implementing containment strategies "...to contain it and to salvage souls from it clutches."(Bittner, 1967). The most appropriate role for officers assigned to police skid row areas seem to be both peace keeping and law enforcing. "...patrolmen do not act alternatively as one or the other, with certain actions being determined by the intended objective of keeping the peace and other being determined by the duty to enforce the law. Instead, we have found that peace keeping ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If the diesel is not fully purified, it is worth less in some cases or in worst cases it cannot be sold at all. The current method of the plant is to use corn oil; this method requires an extra process. The extra process that is required is the degumming process or skid. Until, we are able to get the degumming ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I used a dot plot to compare the difference in the prices for the soy bean oil and rapeseed oil for both years. This helped to get an idea of which product has had lowered prices consistently. One of the other methods I will be using is Hypothesis testing to confirm or refute my hypothesis of which oil will be more cost effective for the plant. In the past rapeseed oil has been proven to be very cost effective and in most countries is sold for less than any other oil. My Ho before conducting research and gathering data is going to be that rapeseed is the most cost effective oil substitute to corn oil. My Ha is that it is not the most cost effective corn oil substitute. After conducting research, I have come to find that I have rejected my Null hypothesis and determined that it is not the most cost effective alternative to corn oil and that rather soy bean oil is. The data is telling me that half of 2015 the soy bean was lower and in all of 2014 the soy bean oil was lower. I don't think there is 100% correlation in this data or that you could rely on it 100% because there was a slight dip in prices towards the end of 2015. But, it looked as though it was only for competition. I think more research should be done in very serious situations where small numbers are going to make a large difference. • 11. Internship Report On Skid Internship Final Report In all honesty, I did not know what to expect when heading into this internship. I knew my boss on a personal level being that he is my brother–in–law but I only had brief experiences working alongside him and his employees. The very first day Derek, my employer made his expectations loud and clear he was to have 110% and nothing less. The first week on my internship I was assigned to sorting through seemingly endless amounts of red iron and tin among other things with a skid steer. Overtime I went from having very little familiarity with the piece of equipment to having spent days maneuvering through the mud and sand that was behind the shop. One day as I was riding I was reminded of a time in Mr. Fritt's Concrete class where the class took turns learning to operate a skid steer belonging to OSUIT it was very satisfying to realize how far I had come. The next week I received even more practice on the skid steer as I was told I was to spend quite a bit of time mowing a couple of different locations with a brush hog and for the next few days that was the mission. I spent many hours on something that may have seemed meaningless to many and learn to take pride in it. Mid way through the week I went to my first real site. The facility was owned by a company called Archrock. I only spent a day there but in that little bit of time I was hit with a wealth of knowledge about compressors. • 14. Essay on The Containment Concept in Law Enforcement One of the core roles of police officers is that of law enforcement. However, there are times that it is necessary for an officer to rely less on enforcement of the law and instead concentrate on keeping peace in situations that exist outside of the norm. One such situation exists in the policing methods used in "skid–row" type areas of society. These types of areas are an anomaly to the rest of standard communities where simply enforcing the law will not be successful. The goal in these areas is to plainly contain the chaos using a hybrid form of community policing. Areas such as skid–row are filled with people that are without the ability to function in normal society, and simply the fact that they exist is offensive to those that do ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The containment approach allows officers to use their discretion and choose to intervene very little during the progression of minor crimes such as loitering and public drunkenness as long as the perpetrators contain their actions to the specific "skid–row" area (Bittner, 1967). Where Brown (1981) considers this as a decision to ignore a violation, Bittner (1967) describes it as an alternative type of action. Bittner (1967) describes three classifications of peace keeping on skid–row. For containment to be considered successful an officer must first acquire specific knowledge about the inhabitants of the area (particularization of knowledge), must discern when it is best needed for an individual to be arrested to keep peace (restricted relevance of culpability), and focus more on the short term results than be concerned with long–term effects (background of ad hoc decision making) because the citizens of these areas have little to lose and therefore have no type of future to be effected long–term (Bittner, 1967). If officers simply enforced the law, it may result in displacement of the activity, as well as making the arrest/release of certain people a revolving door. By using the containment of these areas, and keeping peace in those areas, officers may not be enforcing the law, but are preventing the spread of illegal behavior. Often when one considers the concepts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. The Importance Of The Skid Counselor Training Model Professional counselors are very compassionate and caring people who tend to put others needs before their own, which can lead to burnout. Burnout comes from stress within the job. Maintaining awareness of stressors for counselors is very important. Some ways to know that you're burning out is when it seems you're dragging yourself into work, give advice as a shortcut rather than helping clients, begin sessions late and/or end early, doze off during sessions, experience a decline in empathy, do things against the ethical code, push your theory amongst clients rather than listening and changing your approach for the betterment of the clients and even when one feels relieved when clients cancel scheduled appointments. Using self–assessment and plan coping strategies plays a big part in counselors self–evaluating themselves. And the SCTM helps counselors enhance their skills. The Skilled–Counselor Training Model (SCTM) was developed by incorporating training of both low and high–level counseling skills through having trainees learn about, observe, and perform skills, and then self–assess as well as receive peer and instructor feedback (Urbani et al., 2002). Research has found the SCTM approach to reliably improve trainee counseling skills (Smaby et al., 1999), lead to skill transfer into work with actual clients (Schaefle, Smaby, Maddux, & Cates, 2005), and enhance counselor self–efficacy (Urbani et al., 2002). Therefore, seeing homeless people here is not common and there are gated communities to keep out any possibility of danger. Westwood is an example of an area that Andrew Szasz discusses called an "inverted quarantine." The gated communities reinforce this idea because the people within the community are isolating themselves – keeping and pushing away specific unwanted people. They are essentially excluding themselves as well as protecting themselves from the outside world by erecting a gate – or a barrier – to hide behind. Moreover, this area is quite far from other areas that have a low socioeconomic status such as Downtown Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley. There are a lot of affluent families living here; thus, this indicates a much nicer area. After all, people from a lower social class such as the homeless are unable to have the same luxuries that the wealthy can have for themselves. Skid row is not only home to low income residential community but also home to the homeless. BY living on little to nothing it amazed me on how these people get through their everyday life with all these obstacles in the way. The mentally ill cannot speak up for themselves and this documentary explained it beautifully on why. Instead of getting help or being put into hospitals these people are instead incarcerated. Most people think that most of the population living in Los Angeles is rich because of famous places such as Rodeo Drive and Hollywood where most American movies are produced. The United States has a strong economy, is very safe, and solves a lot of big problems outside the border. United States has a lot of organizations, associations and charities for human rights; however, a big city like Los Angeles has a dark side, it has the highest percentage of homeless people, drug addicts and alcoholics in the United States. Since many of the migrant workers were single and male, the area also saw a proliferation of bars, whorehouses and other houses of ill repute, Today there is a large mission presence in Skid Row which can trace its roots to that period (P1)." The history of Skid Row starts in 1880 and continues until 1930 to serve the Los Angeles worker population; as the article "History of Skid Row" explains better by stating: "People escaping war and difficult conditions in other places came to Los Angeles to start a new life. More and more people came year after year, so in 1930 there were around ten thousand homeless in Los Angeles. Skid Row started as cheap housing and homes for seasonal laborers but then alcoholics, drug addicts, refugees and homeless came to stay there" (P1). According to the same article: "In 1975, the area became part of the then newly adopted central business district redevelopment act"(P2). So it means in the seventies, the Skid Row area became just like what we know today. The area is still poor and is a problem for the Los Angeles Community. " Homelessness" is defined by Howard Bahr in his book Skid Row an Introduction to Disaffiliation as: "a condition of detachment from society characterized by the absence or attenuation of the affiliative bonds that link settled persons to a network of interconnected social structures" (P17). • 31. A Critical Analysis Of Little Shop Of Horrors Not everyone loves musicals as much as others, but most people can recognize when someone says "FEED ME" or "DON'T FEED THE PLANTS". The well–known musical Little Shop of Horrors took over the Dubois Little Theater this December under the direction of Ms. Shannon McNutt. Little Shop of Horrors is a fun, musical about a "young botanical genius," Seymour Krelborn, his boss, and future foster father, Mr. Mushnik, and the young, dramatic and attractive Audrey. Seymour was a shy and sheltered man until he found a strange and interesting plant, which he named Audrey Two after his one true love, Audrey. The musical follows Seymour as he tries to get his sentient, bloodthirsty plant to grow so he can reap the benefits, but his morals quickly catch up with him as he begins to lose everything that matters. I believe that this show was worthwhile to see and be part of. While watching Little Shop of Horrors you can tell that it has comedic elements, but it also is somewhat dark and disturbing to watch Seymour's guilt and grief consume him. It is clearly a dark comedy. This is made clear through many different aspects of the writing. The show deals with murder, death, and world domination, but the characters are always sure to throw in a funny line or stop for a quick song. Though I enjoyed being part of this production, I don't think it has a universal appeal by any means. During one of the shows, a young girl was watching Seymour feed fake body parts to the plant at the end of act ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Skid row has been around since the 1930s and it is a 50–block area in downtown Los Angeles where the streets are homes to about 44,000 people. There is so much going on in 50 blocks, drug dealers, drug addicts, gangsters, soccer moms, investors, and veterans everything can be found. There is no need to get off the car to really see how bad the conditions of the people shelters. As Raytheon IDS works to become a Joint Battlespace Integrator, we will have expertise over multiple domains. The challenge for our supply chain organization, then, is to take the suppliers who are expert in certain domains and knit them together to allow us to create solutions to satisfy our customers' needs and support our business vision. Q: Does this mean that suppliers will be working with other suppliers? Noshirwani: In some cases, absolutely. Then the question is: How do we broker them to partner with each other to bring us the best result? Q: With this new business focus, what sort of measures do you use to determine your success? Noshirwani: Previously, the majority of our metrics were internally focused on the supply chain. While we still have some metrics that are internally focused, we now have an organizational perspective that measures the value we provide to the business. • 34. Factors Influencing Dynamic Control Of The Helicopter Pilots The helicopter pilots, in general, are required to be skillful in operations on both improved and unimproved surfaces. During normal or slope takeoffs and landings with some degree of bank angle or side drift with one skid or wheel on the ground causes the helicopter to roll. When the rollover happens, the lateral cyclic control response becomes more sluggish and less effective than for a hovering helicopter. Consequently, if a roll rate is permitted to develop, a critical bank angle may be reached where roll cannot be corrected, even with full lateral cyclic, and the helicopter will roll over onto its side. As the roll rate increases, the angle at which recovery is still possible is significantly reduced. The critical rollover angle is also reduced. So, the goal of this essay is to cover the factors influencing dynamic control such as solo flight, cross wind, tail rotor thrust etc. and understand the recognition of dynamic rollover, how to avoid it and steps required for recovery. In addition, the effects of critical rollover angle on dynamic rollover and factors influencing dynamic rollover are also discussed. Introduction: An increasing percentage of helicopter accidents are attributed to dynamic rollover, results in destruction of helicopter and some serious injuries to the helicopter pilots and crew. The dynamic rollover is a condition of power flight, where helicopter tends to roll laterally. When a helicopter is lifting off the ground or it is hovering with one ... • 35. Non-Skid Falls: A Case Study To prevent falls, patients should be taught simple interventions that decrease their risk of falls. This applies to their stay in the hospital, as well as when they go home. While planning what the patient should be taught, the nurse should consider the risk factors and circumstances surrounding the patient's needs (Quigley 2015). Medications are one of the risk factors to consider. The elderly, in particular, are more sensitive to a drug's effects (Savita et al 2015). Many medications cause dizziness or orthostatic hypotension, while others like antidepressants have a sedating effect. (Savita el al 2015). Patients should be instructed to move slowly when going from a sitting to a standing position. It is a good idea to teach them to stand for at least one minute before beginning to walk. They also need to understand which medicines have a sedating effect, so they could plan their activities around their medicine regimen. While in the hospital, it is best to make sure the patient is wearing non–skid socks (Quigley 2015). Further research into evidenced based practice found a few important practices concerning non–skid socks. It is best for patients to ambulate in proper footwear instead of the non–skid socks (Quigley 2015). This provides a good grip for the floor, while providing a support base for ambulation. It is what fuels their addiction and as a result, a lack of motivation to do anything other than obtaining more drugs. • 40. The Problem Of Wet Pavement Clusters Introduction: According to the United States Department of Transportation, there were approximately 2.6 million registered vehicles in 2014 and with that number increasing over the past two years; the importance of studying our roadways and the materials that are used to produce roadways is also on the rise [1]. There is a total of 2.7 million miles of paved roadway in the United States. The primary material for paving those roads is asphalt [2]. Asphalt is a material that consists of bituminous oil mixed with sand and gravel. Asphalt makes a good material for paving roads because it is cheap and easily accessible, however, it does have its downsides. Wet pavement clusters are sections of asphalt that become excessively slick after it rains. This phenomenon can cause serious accidents that can be avoided by better understanding what causes wet pavement clusters to occur and then researching different ways to stop them from developing. Research Questions: There are three major questions that need to be answered to decrease the amount of wet pavement clusters in the United States. 1. What types of components can be added to asphalt to decrease the slickness of the pavement after it rains? 2. Are there components that can increase the strength of permeable pavements? 3. Are there installation methods that can be paired with new mix designs that increase permeability while still maintaining durability? In this process a big part of the population have been forced to give up their lifestyle; therefore, leading to the neglecting of public spaces and raising poverty rates. The lack of house affordability might be one of the major problem that could also contribute to high numbers of homeless people in this country. Many young people today do not have the money for a down payment or can't afford to buy somewhere. The whole concept of gentrification has not been applied the way it should and since that happens it creates more obstacles for the ones that cannot afford a high rent, or house payment. in other words it does not allow people to save money and to invest it correctly. That is why debt rates are really high specially with young people. According to Dr. Housing Bubble, " In Los Angeles your typical 22 to 34 year old is spending close to half of their income on rent. This is higher than many of the cities on the list. While cities like Dallas and Houston allow young workers to spend about a third of their income on rent thus allowing them to save for a down payment on a home"(Dr. Housing,2015). If there were more opportunities for people to afford homes, that would make a large difference in the current status of homelessness and low income families in this country and a lot of people would not oppose gentrification.
