The Impact of Television on our Future Generations "People are sheep. TV is the shepherd." (Jess
C. Scott, Literary Heroin) This quote has more than one truth to it. In today's society, we rely on
television for entertainment, whether that be good or bad. Television acts as a positive as well as a
negative influence. According to Statistic Brain, the average person spends approximately 9
years watching TV in their lifetime. In addition, the average youth spends 900 hours per year
watching TV. Following these strong statistics, I think it can be notably said that the television
can make a grand impression on the personality and character of a human, not to mention the
alteration of their family values. In today's culture, we tend to watch shows that portray negative
images on our values and morals. One of these shows is Thicker than Water, aired on Bravo
network. However, there are also television shows based upon good morals and values. A show in
particular would be Duck Dynasty, aired on A&E network. Reality shows often show the
happenings in our everyday society and culture. They help portray the image that each person hold
different values, as well as the image of the influence they have on their viewers. I think as a
network that airs these shows, you should be worried about those images you're placing upon
children today because that makes our future. As we think of shows that stray away from good morals

Television Vs Movies Essay
Before there was television and motion pictures (movies), people used to spend their leisure time
listening to the radio. They were offered little variety and often routinely listened to the same things.
In the late 1800's and early 1900's, motion pictures and television were invented, respectively. In the
beginning, they were considered luxuries. As time wore on, they became increasingly more and
more popular. Today they are both extremely common forms of entertainment. Though they are both
very popular, they are also very different.
Going to the movies offers a complete escape from everyday life for a few hours at a time. In
movies, a story can usually be told from beginning to end in a short period of...show more content...
There are dozens of different movies to choose from but once you make that decision, for the most
part, you are stuck with it. Choosing which movie to see is also often an issue. When there are
several people involved, deciding on which movie to see is often difficult. Also, when people go to
the movies, they do not have the luxury of being in their own homes. Frequently, people choose to
stay home and watch television over going out to the movies.
Television offers many things that going to the movies does not. TV offers viewing in the comfort
of one's own home. When watching TV, one has the option of doing several other tasks at the same
time. You might prepare dinner, do some homework, or talk on the phone, all while watching TV.
The time that you invest in TV is completely variable. You might watch a program for a half an
hour or you might watch a TV movie for two hours. There is no commitment involved in
watching TV. If for some reason you do not like the program that you are watching, at any time
you can simply change the channel and watch something else. If something comes up and you are
unable to watch a program, you can easily insert a video tape in to your VCR and record the
program to watch at a later time. There is always a variety of programs to watch and there is
always something for everyone. Television shows rely on stories that last for long periods of time
to keep viewers interested. They keep going on and on, sometimes for

Reflection Paper On Television
Television: Decades of Reflection
Ever since the modern age of human history began, mediums of communication have had a vital
impact in society and culture. The newspaper was the first medium that changed communication and
information. In his article "History of Newspapers", NYU professor Mitchel Stephens states that the
oldest newspapers were "the handwritten news sheets that circulated widely in Venice in the
sixteenth century. These Venetian news sheets (..) were filled with information on wars and politics
in Italy and Europe." Four centuries later, the radio was an icon, as journalist Clive Martin describes
it in his CNN article "Why the radio is one of history's most important inventions". Cynthia Trope,
Associate Curator at Cooper Hewitt, also comments on the impact of this medium. She says, "radio
really became a way of broadening one's personal world. You could link to the rest of the world
through entertainment broadcasts, news broadcasts... almost instantaneously." However, an outlet
has revolutionized more than just communication, information and entertainment.
Television revolutionized the entire path of human society. Mitchel Stephens, in his article "History
of Television", writes that "electronic television was first successfully demonstrated in San
Francisco on Sept. 7, 1927." Ever since that day, television viewers in America only increased. As
the years went by television became a powerful and profitable business for the major networks. By

Why television has the huge impact on the teenager, and what led this to effects on American culture
society? Television is the main source of media, from the wide range of information is passing to the
audience. In other word, television is a form of entertainment, education, news headlines, gossips and
advertising. However, between the 1940s and 2000s, television started to have a huge impact on
American culture and society. It emphasizes on how people think and perceive things on an
important social issues such as race, gender, and class. The television, started telecasting different
kind of shows, which involve the viewer's perspective of right or wrong. The television program
began to rating by the viewers during the 1970s. In the 1980s and the 1990s the more channels and
cable TV was introduced, and more obstacles are introduced throughout. Consequently, it helps
children to learn different perspective through television, but start creating conflict among each
other. The excessive use of Television is the harmful effects on children's brain development and
behavior, lack of physical activity, and impact on social development. To begin with, watching
television extremely influence children, able to manipulate them, and their brain start to developed
the way television represents. According to Laura Blackwell Clark, "Commercial television made its
debut in 1941, initiating the new era of media influence" (56). The statement claims that the

Television And Stereotypes
Television is regarded as a significant source of information that plays an influential role in
formulating an individuals social reality. As a tool that conveys the simulations of every day life
it "may become a part of our social experience and serve as a basis for social judgements such as
racial attitudes and ethnic stereotypes" (Fujoka, 52). Stereotypes are explained as widely held
beliefs about a particular person or group. Research shows that "television images of minority groups
might affect minority members' self–concept and racial awareness" (Fujoka, 54). The portrayal of
minorities on television were deemed by minority groups as a conception of socially existing beliefs
toward their racial group. As such, television may have perhaps...show more content...
Different archetypes have been used to represent black people through television, live performances,
and film. These stereotypes consisted of "Coon", "Mulatto", "Mammy", and "Tom" (site–Johnson).
Prior to films and television, African American's were depicted by white actors wearing "blackface"
in which white people entertained audiences through plots that portrayed African Americans in
stereotypical ways that had prevailed since the time of slavery. "Coon" for instance, was created as
a from of comedy and amusement for white individuals, as this image allowed for comic relief
through idiocy. "Coons" had, in essence, a low level of intelligence with minimal common sense.
Their dull–wittedness advocated the view that African American people were unintelligent beings
who were incompetent and unable to formulate intelligible thoughts. This further reinforced the idea
that African American people were in need of instruction and guidance from white individuals–just
as they did during slavery–in order for African Americans to sustain and remain alive, or else they
would be damaged by their own incapabilities. Similar to the "Coon", Mammy was also a common
character who was portrayed as an obese and grumpy woman who also provided comic relief to
white folks. Mammy's creation was

Television has Made our Lifes Better
Nowadays, television is our main source of news and current events around the world. It is
indefinably the most popular media in society today. By watching TV,we are kept updated of the
various events and dealings occurring around the world. It provides us with broadcasts of the news
and weather stations and many more, therefore helping us not to be dropped back from the world of
information. People need to be aware of whats going on around them and to keep on top of current
affairs, and television allows us to do so.Without it we would be an outsider in society and totally
cut off from the happenings in our local area as well as the political world(Palmer,2010). Not only
this, but it helps us increase...show more content...
Not exactly a formula for good health and fitness".She also argues that the majority of people whilst
watching television consume many high calorie foods, making matters even worse.
Television is also a great way of representing togetherness. Its a simple reason for family to spend
time together. Setting aside some hours specifically for family viewing encourages
conversation, interaction and a certain sense of togetherness.Television brings many different
conversation topics both in to a family home and work. It helps people who may have little in
common, to talk and therefore acts as a good catalyst for family interaction(Keanney,2010).From
time to time, something which occurred on TV can lead to discussions of something that happened
in our own daily lifes which is a great conversation starter.(Wagner,2009) Furthermore, this is not
everyones frame of mind as many people believe that family life and interaction is negleacted
beacause of television. It's often the case that a family could sit in the one room for hours on end
without actually speaking to each other.Sitting there like zombies totally engaged in whats
happening on the TV and not even acknowledging each other. Not only that but many people, children

The Influence of Television Essay
The Influence of Television Television is a source for top entertainment adored by all ages but the
programs are influencing the eyes of the viewers both in a good and bad way. Violence, sex and
bad language is currently shown at earlier and earlier times, leaving especially children prone to
mature viewing.
With the television the most watched object in the country, it is not a surprise that nearly everyone
has one in their homes. Due to such expectations from the high attendance, each channel must
broadcast whatever will make them the most money. This normally includes exciting and "saucy"
scenes....show more content...
It teaches them to have no feelings or to know right from wrong.
Nowadays, it is difficult to predict the maturity of the children as there is such a wide range. So in
order to be safe, and not sorry, the broadcasters must expect the viewers to be younger than they
really are. This could eventually reduce any adult material in any program. Also depending on the
maturity of the children, one could react to adult material in a better way than another could.
But isn't television watched in order to get away from our boring lives. Don't we stare at the
television, hours on end, to watch the Warrior Princess beat the evil dragon and gain the love of the
Prince. We don't want to see normal everyday events.
Although there is a lack of educational programs, that doesn't mean the people aren't learning
anything. The wide range of sport broadcasted encourages watchers to participate in hobbies. Other
shows help youths to deal with social problems from unlikely scenes in Eastenders about drugs, sex
and everyday problems. It is a moral tutor, guiding us through live.
With all the magical and graphic shows on television people surely must be expanding their
imagination and creativity. In the later future these ideas will build the next generation for the better.
Why are the broadcasters being blamed for what is on television when it is the parents fault to let

What is a television? Television is a system for transmitting visual images and sound that are
reproduced on screens, chiefly to broadcast programs for entertainment, information, and
education. Television has been around for a long time even before I was born, it was first called,
'seeing by wireless'. It has been used for over 80 years and was considered as an extension of radio.
Television has evolved from the past to the present, some examples of that is the size of t.v. are

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Television Essay
Television is more of a blessing than a curse to children. Discuss.
Television has become such an essential part of our daily lives, that it is very hard to imagine life
without television. In the past, people obtain knowledge and news by reading books and newspaper.
Nowadays we obtain news and different kind of knowledge and can be entertained through watching
television. Television is an invention that makes our lives more convenient. People of all ages love
watching television, especially children and teenagers. They are glued to their televisions. In the
USA, children aging from 6–16 spend 5.5 hours on average per day on television. We can see that
television affect the children a lot as they spend so much time on television every day. There is one
question that every parent will ask: are the...show more content...
Educational programs may improve children's learning efficiency. Some television programs such as
the news, National Geographic, etc, can educate, inform and inspire children. A research carried out
in UK showed that children learn more effectively by watching television than reading books or
listening to audiotapes. Also, some studies carried in primary schools show that children who watch
educational program have better academic results then those who don't. Children can gain extra
knowledge by watching educational programs.
Watching television can be a relief of stress and pain. Scientists found that cartoons can be used as
painkiller on children, as they experience a soothing effect through watching them. They tend to be
less affected by the pain brought by stomachache, headache, etc. Children can also obtain
entertainment from the cartoons, so as to release their stress. It can also cheer them up when they
are devastated, and by obtaining a positive mind, they work much more

Essay on Television
The impact that television (A.K.A.– TV) has had on mankind in the last 50 years, is rivaled by few
other inventions throughout modern history. Recently television has been given a bad wrap, seen by
many people as a cruel invention, a 'boob–tube'; mesmerizing and brainwashing its viewers. People
have forgotten TV is an educational and entertaining tool used in the everyday lives of people around
the world. Without TV and its many advantages where would the world be at this very moment,
certainly not in the information age that it is in now.
The average person watches on average ten to fifteen hours of television during a week. This seems
like an awful lot of time to be sitting in front of a television, but...show more content...
This is a good thing, if you keep your priorities straight, because television should not be your
number one priority. The entertainment part of television contributes to keeping people out of
trouble. If a person has nothing else to do and they get into the routine of watching a certain show
then they will be 'off the streets';. Characters on shows can act as role models for their audience and
promote good morals. Sports are another aspect of television entertainment. If someone can not
actually attend a sporting event in person, more than likely they can still catch the action on
television. What better way to be entertained than sitting on your couch!
Television is also helpful with product information, and although commercials are not regarded as
the most entertaining aspect of television, they sure can be informative. Without television
commercials a person may never hear about a product that could benefit their life. For example, a
commercial for allergy medication can let someone know that there is relief for their symptoms.
This may never have been possible if the person wasn't watching television and saw the commercial
for the product. Advertising and product information, is just one more of many reasons why
television is so useful.
The News! Enough said, well not really, but watching the news on the television keeps you up to

Television News vs. Newspaper
Television news vs. Newspaper When it comes to finding about the news of what's going on in our
world, we want details and facts. We want the juice of what's actually going on. The debate between
the efficiency of newspapers and TV news, TV news is a lot more effective.
Watching the news on TV is a lot easier for people to understand and is more convenient than
reading it on paper. For the people who are always in a rush in the morning, it's more convenient
to turn on the TV and listen to what's going on rather than trying to read a paper because it will
only slow your task down. Also, for the people who don't know how to read and for elders whose
eyes don't function properly, the TV is a better source of finding out the news. Not only...show more

The smallest story could be the most important; but if you have a newspaper, you won't be able to
find out what's going on, so you'll have to rely on the TV news to tell you what you want to know.
TV offers more options of news. People are mostly fond of making choices. Watching TV can
satisfy this requirement. Because there are many channels for options on news, for example, ABC7
channel news doesn't provide you the news you want to know about, then you can always change
the channel. But the newspaper is published by one publication. Whatever information is on there is
what you have to stick with. The point of view and the news are somehow limited and prejudice. So
in order to get a comprehensive view, people can try many different channels to get an understanding.
Unlike the TV news, newspaper are portable and has no time limited, this has the advantages that
people can read them whenever they want. But I believe that getting news from TVs is due to its
efficiency, convenience and easy understanding is a lot better than just reading the

The Invention and Evolution of Television Essay
The Invention and Evolution of Television
The television is an invention that without a doubt changed the world. Televisions have been
available for the public to own since the early '40s. Like every invention the Television's popularity
started off slow. At the end of World War Two about 8,000 households owned a television. At this
point in time televisions were all black and white, small, and had no more than a few channels to
choose from. The programming consisted of entertainment and there was little focus on news. One
of the main reasons for this was that with the technology they were not able to broadcast up to date
news programs.
In 1962 Telstar was launched. Telstar was the first private communications satellite, and it...show

This further created space for more channels and for the content to be broadcasted more clearly.
With all of the technological changes in the television there were far more social changed
domestically and internationally because of its invention and progression. One of the most
important effects television has had on society is the way we get our news. Many people know
what is going on in the world because of television. They get all of their news form it, and with
out it would have little idea of what is going on in the world. The invention of television made it
possible for people to actually see what was going on in the world, opposed to radio and
newspaper where you can only hear and read what is happening. The fact that you could now see
the news brought a bought great social change in many aspects of society. The presidential
debates were now broadcasted over the television an people could now base their decision on
appearance, also the Vietnam war was in a way broadcasted through television, revealing the
brutality for all of society to see. Vietnam was also the first American war to bring out a great deal
of protestors. This may have been due to its broadcasting over television.
It is also arguable that television dictates how the majority of society acts in general. People
especially kids try to emulate the way people act, dress and basically do everything. And all they are
emulating is what the large corporations, which control

Television Programs
There are many useful techniques greatly in television programmes and in their opening sequences.
They are used to attract the viewer's attention while also creating a great way to show what the
upcoming program is about. One of these techniques is the use of split screening; this is a very
attractive way to put across what a programme is about, tone or genera. In the television soap
'Hollyoaks' the beginning shows a short clip of around thirty seconds to around a minute that gives a
little incite into the episode, which is followed by the use of split screening in the opening credits. In
this introduction there is a blue background, which shows a mellow tone while clips of...show more

Using these techniques is clearly marking out what kind of programme is to come, through the
used of humour shown in then opening scenes. The opening theme is slow and serious but also
very catch. It could be linked to the likes of other police and emergency services documentaries
like 'The Bill' because they are very similar in tone. In the television soap 'Eastenders' the opening
credits starts on the centre of East London and pans out to show the larger area of East London.
The most noticeable part of the introduction is the theme music used, it is a very catchy tune that
even people who wouldn't normally watch the programme would recognise. The opening doesn't
need to show any clips of other parts of its shows because unlike most television programmes it is
continuously running so there is no need for it. The area shown is very grey and colourless showing
a lower or even middle class type of place. People can relate to this type of viewing because the
characters are based on working class people. This would also be 'Eastenders' target audience
because of these types of people would be able to relate to the programme

Television Production Essay
ABSTRACT Television has been an excellent medium for entertainment and information ever since
the invention of the electron scanning tube in 1923 by Vladimir Kosma Zworykin, who is
considered the father of the modern television. With the conversion to digital format 1080i in 1998,
there has been a boom in the production of different types and technologies for Televisions. A new
generation of televisions has been developed, including liquid crystal display (LCD), rear projection,
and high definition that provide amazing visual characteristics and can be integrated in to a home
theater system. As the technology behind these televisions decreases in costs, more companies are
entering the market. DLH Visions is a company that has a vision...show more content...
Rosing transmitted crude geometrical patterns onto the television screen and was the first inventor
to do so using a CRT. The first practical signal generating tubes were invented by Vladimir K.
Zworykin and Philo T. Farnsworth. Zworykin invented the iconoscope, which became the imaging
iconoscope. Farnsworth invented the image dissector.
Present Day
Almost all TVs in use today rely on cathode ray tube to display images. LCDs and plasma displays
are sometimes seen, but they are still rare when compared to CRTs. It is even possible to make a
television screen out of thousands of ordinary 60–watt light bulbs. It is possible to see at a football
event, scoreboard. CRTs are the most common way of displaying images today.
The terms anode and cathode are used in electronics as synonyms for positive and negative
terminals. For example, one could refer to the positive terminal of a battery as the anode and the
negative terminal as the cathode. In a cathode ray tube, the "cathode" is a heated filament (not unlike
the filament in a normal light bulb). The heated filament is in a vacuum created inside a glass
"tube." The "ray" is a stream of electrons that naturally pour off a heated cathode into the vacuum.

Electrons are negative. The anode is positive, so it attracts the electrons pouring off the cathode. In a

Television And The Future Of Television Essay
What do we really mean by television? The way we watch television has drastically changed over
the last fifteen years due to new technologies such as digital television and services providing
on–demand access. These drastic changes have had a huge effect on viewers and have "allowed
online streaming platforms to dominate and revolutionize the way the audience consumes"
(Aliloupour) media, ultimately allowing the viewer to be in total control of how, when and where
they want their content. The idea of only being able to watch television on a television set is now a
thing of the past. Due to technology, the audience now has a vast variety of options on how they can
access content. By using scholarly articles, research in new media and Internet sites I will be
analyzing current television and where the future of television will be heading.
The way the audience watches television has drastically changed since the birth of television. The
viewer is "changing the rules" (Deign) of how we consume media and is no longer restricted to
when they can access content. The company Netflix's is a great example of this. Netflix is currently
the dominant company in the on–demand media industry and "isn't only changing the way that we
watch television, but it's also revolutionizing the way that it is made"(Page). Compared to old
methods of television networks where the viewer is required to tune in weekly at a designated time
for a television show, Netflix's has allowed the viewer to watch

The holes were spaced at equal angular intervals such that, in a single rotation, the disk would allow
light to pass through each hole and onto a light–sensitive selenium sensor which produced the
electrical pulses. As an image was focused on the rotating disk, each hole captured a horizontal
"slice" of the entire image.
Nipkow's design was not practical until advances in amplifier tube technology became available.
Later designs used a rotating mirror–drum scanner to capture the image and a cathode ray tube as a
display device, but moving images were still not possible due to the poor sensitivity of the selenium
sensors. In 1907, Russian scientist Boris Rosing became the first inventor to use a CRT in the
receiver of an experimental television system. He used mirror–drum scanning to transmit simple
geometric shapes to the CRT.
Using a Nipkow disk, Scottish inventor John Logie Baird successfully demonstrated the
transmission of moving silhouette images in London in 1925 and of moving, monochromatic
images in 1926. Baird's scanning disk produced an image of 30 lines resolution, just enough to
discern a human face, from a double spiral of lenses. This demonstration by Baird is generally
agreed to be the world's first true demonstration of TV, albeit a mechanical form no longer in use.
Remarkably, in 1927, Baird also invented the world's first video recording system, "Phonovision;"

History of television and its influence on people lives. How did television revolutionize the world?
TV, more commonly known as 'television' is one of the greatest inventions of the 20th century. In
ancient Greek tГЁle means 'far', and in Latin visio means sight. From my perspective and many
people of the world television has changed the way we live. Television has brought many amazing
things, however nothing is perfect.
Television sets were commercially available since the late 1920s but in very small quantities. Since
then television had become a bit more common in houses or business institutions because of it's
purposes. Which are entertainment, and news. In the 1950s, television shaped public opinion among

It was a breakthrough because it was the first one that would properly work. He demonstrated this
by using a Nipkow disk, the disk was segregated into three sections, where each of those sections
consisted of a spiral system with holes and them being covered by green, blue and red filter. As the
disk would rotate, it would scan an image in all three colors, using all three systems with each turn
of the disk this would generate a full colored image.
Early electronic television Around 1930, it was seen that mechanical television would never be
able to produce a proper quality which could be used for commercials and other programs. An
electronic television needs a picture tube this allowed to display the picture and an electronic
camera tube was needed in order to capture the image. Philo Farnsworth, produced images on his
image dissector camera tube in 1927. However, the image dissector required too much light to be
practical for television.
One of the first electronic television broadcasting began in England in 1936. This was used for
several years as BBC broadcasted 30 line mechanical television, by using the Baird system. As
stated above the Baird system used a mechanical camera for filmed programming, and Farnsworth
image dissector cameras for live programming. After testing out both system it was an obvious
decision for BBC to use the all – electronic.
In the united states, they realized the true potential of television. RCA introduced

ESPN: Portrayal of Sports on Television Essay
ESPN: Portrayal of Sports on Television
Sports have played a big in role throughout the history of television. Without the television, sport
fans would not be able to tune into NFL games on Sunday and Monday nights. They wouldn't be
able to sit at home and watch every basketball game played during March Madness. The television
has given everybody around the world a chance to watch some of the biggest and best sporting
events that have ever taken place. However, for a long amount of time there was no television show
that was dedicated towards just sports. One would be able to find everything they wanted to know
about sport statistics in magazines and newspapers but the public could not sit down on their couch
and visually recap all...show more content...
ESPN along with the coverage of sporting events reports sporting news in way that is education but
at the same time educational. ESPN has always covered in one way or another covered all of the
biggest sporting events of the last two decades. This is something that sport fans never had before.
ESPN has been a great educational help for many people. Sport fans in the past would have to do
a lot of reading to keep up with the major athletes in each sport but now all they have to do is just
turn on the television and watch Sports center for and hour each day and they will know who the
leaders are of almost every sport. This has also helped with ideas of things such as Fantasy Sports,
or filling out brackets for the NCAA men's basketball tournament. The public gets the chance to
watch what the employee's of ESPN think. There are many shows that are dedicated to some
controversial subjects in sports and have the two experts each give their own opinion on that subject
which can sometimes get loud. ESPN has helped frame how sports are viewed in today's society.
ESPN started off with television but over time has branched out into other forms of media. ESPN
can be found on the internet where you can check out all of the latest breaking news in sports and
where you can check statistics of various games. ESPN can also be found on the radio 24 hours a
day where there are more than 60 affiliates, including 80 stations that carry information all day long
to the listener (Shea).

How TV Shaped American Culture

  • 1. Summar, Alyssa Professor Cavender ENGL–1020 February 11, 2015 The Impact of Television on our Future Generations "People are sheep. TV is the shepherd." (Jess C. Scott, Literary Heroin) This quote has more than one truth to it. In today's society, we rely on television for entertainment, whether that be good or bad. Television acts as a positive as well as a negative influence. According to Statistic Brain, the average person spends approximately 9 years watching TV in their lifetime. In addition, the average youth spends 900 hours per year watching TV. Following these strong statistics, I think it can be notably said that the television can make a grand impression on the personality and character of a human, not to mention the alteration of their family values. In today's culture, we tend to watch shows that portray negative images on our values and morals. One of these shows is Thicker than Water, aired on Bravo network. However, there are also television shows based upon good morals and values. A show in particular would be Duck Dynasty, aired on A&E network. Reality shows often show the happenings in our everyday society and culture. They help portray the image that each person hold different values, as well as the image of the influence they have on their viewers. I think as a network that airs these shows, you should be worried about those images you're placing upon children today because that makes our future. As we think of shows that stray away from good morals Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Television Vs Movies Essay Before there was television and motion pictures (movies), people used to spend their leisure time listening to the radio. They were offered little variety and often routinely listened to the same things. In the late 1800's and early 1900's, motion pictures and television were invented, respectively. In the beginning, they were considered luxuries. As time wore on, they became increasingly more and more popular. Today they are both extremely common forms of entertainment. Though they are both very popular, they are also very different. Going to the movies offers a complete escape from everyday life for a few hours at a time. In movies, a story can usually be told from beginning to end in a short period of...show more content... There are dozens of different movies to choose from but once you make that decision, for the most part, you are stuck with it. Choosing which movie to see is also often an issue. When there are several people involved, deciding on which movie to see is often difficult. Also, when people go to the movies, they do not have the luxury of being in their own homes. Frequently, people choose to stay home and watch television over going out to the movies. Television offers many things that going to the movies does not. TV offers viewing in the comfort of one's own home. When watching TV, one has the option of doing several other tasks at the same time. You might prepare dinner, do some homework, or talk on the phone, all while watching TV. The time that you invest in TV is completely variable. You might watch a program for a half an hour or you might watch a TV movie for two hours. There is no commitment involved in watching TV. If for some reason you do not like the program that you are watching, at any time you can simply change the channel and watch something else. If something comes up and you are unable to watch a program, you can easily insert a video tape in to your VCR and record the program to watch at a later time. There is always a variety of programs to watch and there is always something for everyone. Television shows rely on stories that last for long periods of time to keep viewers interested. They keep going on and on, sometimes for Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Reflection Paper On Television Television: Decades of Reflection Ever since the modern age of human history began, mediums of communication have had a vital impact in society and culture. The newspaper was the first medium that changed communication and information. In his article "History of Newspapers", NYU professor Mitchel Stephens states that the oldest newspapers were "the handwritten news sheets that circulated widely in Venice in the sixteenth century. These Venetian news sheets (..) were filled with information on wars and politics in Italy and Europe." Four centuries later, the radio was an icon, as journalist Clive Martin describes it in his CNN article "Why the radio is one of history's most important inventions". Cynthia Trope, Associate Curator at Cooper Hewitt, also comments on the impact of this medium. She says, "radio really became a way of broadening one's personal world. You could link to the rest of the world through entertainment broadcasts, news broadcasts... almost instantaneously." However, an outlet has revolutionized more than just communication, information and entertainment. Television revolutionized the entire path of human society. Mitchel Stephens, in his article "History of Television", writes that "electronic television was first successfully demonstrated in San Francisco on Sept. 7, 1927." Ever since that day, television viewers in America only increased. As the years went by television became a powerful and profitable business for the major networks. Television is the main source of media, from the wide range of information is passing to the audience. In other word, television is a form of entertainment, education, news headlines, gossips and advertising. However, between the 1940s and 2000s, television started to have a huge impact on American culture and society. It emphasizes on how people think and perceive things on an important social issues such as race, gender, and class. Consequently, it helps children to learn different perspective through television, but start creating conflict among each other. The excessive use of Television is the harmful effects on children's brain development and behavior, lack of physical activity, and impact on social development. To begin with, watching television extremely influence children, able to manipulate them, and their brain start to developed the way television represents. As a tool that conveys the simulations of every day life it "may become a part of our social experience and serve as a basis for social judgements such as racial attitudes and ethnic stereotypes" (Fujoka, 52). Stereotypes are explained as widely held beliefs about a particular person or group. Research shows that "television images of minority groups might affect minority members' self–concept and racial awareness" (Fujoka, 54). These stereotypes consisted of "Coon", "Mulatto", "Mammy", and "Tom" (site–Johnson). Prior to films and television, African American's were depicted by white actors wearing "blackface" in which white people entertained audiences through plots that portrayed African Americans in stereotypical ways that had prevailed since the time of slavery. "Coon" for instance, was created as a from of comedy and amusement for white individuals, as this image allowed for comic relief through idiocy. "Coons" had, in essence, a low level of intelligence with minimal common sense. Their dull–wittedness advocated the view that African American people were unintelligent beings who were incompetent and unable to formulate intelligible thoughts. This further reinforced the idea that African American people were in need of instruction and guidance from white individuals–just as they did during slavery–in order for African Americans to sustain and remain alive, or else they would be damaged by their own incapabilities. Similar to the "Coon", Mammy was also a common character who was portrayed as an obese and grumpy woman who also provided comic relief to white folks. • 7. The Influence of Television Essay The Influence of Television Television is a source for top entertainment adored by all ages but the programs are influencing the eyes of the viewers both in a good and bad way. Violence, sex and bad language is currently shown at earlier and earlier times, leaving especially children prone to mature viewing. With the television the most watched object in the country, it is not a surprise that nearly everyone has one in their homes. Due to such expectations from the high attendance, each channel must broadcast whatever will make them the most money. This normally includes exciting and "saucy" scenes....show more content... It teaches them to have no feelings or to know right from wrong. Nowadays, it is difficult to predict the maturity of the children as there is such a wide range. So in order to be safe, and not sorry, the broadcasters must expect the viewers to be younger than they really are. This could eventually reduce any adult material in any program. Also depending on the maturity of the children, one could react to adult material in a better way than another could. But isn't television watched in order to get away from our boring lives. Don't we stare at the television, hours on end, to watch the Warrior Princess beat the evil dragon and gain the love of the Prince. We don't want to see normal everyday events. Although there is a lack of educational programs, that doesn't mean the people aren't learning anything. The wide range of sport broadcasted encourages watchers to participate in hobbies. Other shows help youths to deal with social problems from unlikely scenes in Eastenders about drugs, sex and everyday problems. It is a moral tutor, guiding us through live. With all the magical and graphic shows on television people surely must be expanding their imagination and creativity. In the later future these ideas will build the next generation for the better. Why are the broadcasters being blamed for what is on television when it is the parents fault to let their children Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Television is a system for transmitting visual images and sound that are reproduced on screens, chiefly to broadcast programs for entertainment, information, and education. Television has been around for a long time even before I was born, it was first called, 'seeing by wireless'. It has been used for over 80 years and was considered as an extension of radio. In the article "History of Television" by, Mitchell Stephens claims that the first electronic television was first successfully demonstrated in San Francisco on Sept 7, 1927 that the system was designed by a highschool student named Philo Taylor Farnsworth. Philo Taylor farnsworth began to conceive a system that would capture moving images in a form that could be coded onto radio waves and be transformed back into picture on a screen. People have forgotten TV is an educational and entertaining tool used in the everyday lives of people around the world. Without TV and its many advantages where would the world be at this very moment, certainly not in the information age that it is in now. The average person watches on average ten to fifteen hours of television during a week. This seems like an awful lot of time to be sitting in front of a television, but...show more content... This is a good thing, if you keep your priorities straight, because television should not be your number one priority. The entertainment part of television contributes to keeping people out of trouble. If a person has nothing else to do and they get into the routine of watching a certain show then they will be 'off the streets';. Characters on shows can act as role models for their audience and promote good morals. Sports are another aspect of television entertainment. If someone can not actually attend a sporting event in person, more than likely they can still catch the action on television. What better way to be entertained than sitting on your couch! Television is also helpful with product information, and although commercials are not regarded as the most entertaining aspect of television, they sure can be informative. Without television commercials a person may never hear about a product that could benefit their life. For example, a commercial for allergy medication can let someone know that there is relief for their symptoms. This may never have been possible if the person wasn't watching television and saw the commercial for the product. Advertising and product information, is just one more of many reasons why television is so useful. The News! Enough said, well not really, but watching the news on the television keeps you up to date on world and local Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Television News vs. Newspaper Television news vs. Newspaper When it comes to finding about the news of what's going on in our world, we want details and facts. We want the juice of what's actually going on. The debate between the efficiency of newspapers and TV news, TV news is a lot more effective. Watching the news on TV is a lot easier for people to understand and is more convenient than reading it on paper. For the people who are always in a rush in the morning, it's more convenient to turn on the TV and listen to what's going on rather than trying to read a paper because it will only slow your task down. Also, for the people who don't know how to read and for elders whose eyes don't function properly, the TV is a better source of finding out the news. Not only...show more content... The smallest story could be the most important; but if you have a newspaper, you won't be able to find out what's going on, so you'll have to rely on the TV news to tell you what you want to know. TV offers more options of news. People are mostly fond of making choices. Watching TV can satisfy this requirement. Because there are many channels for options on news, for example, ABC7 channel news doesn't provide you the news you want to know about, then you can always change the channel. But the newspaper is published by one publication. Whatever information is on there is what you have to stick with. The point of view and the news are somehow limited and prejudice. So in order to get a comprehensive view, people can try many different channels to get an understanding. Unlike the TV news, newspaper are portable and has no time limited, this has the advantages that people can read them whenever they want. But I believe that getting news from TVs is due to its efficiency, convenience and easy understanding is a lot better than just reading the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. The Invention and Evolution of Television Essay The Invention and Evolution of Television The television is an invention that without a doubt changed the world. Televisions have been available for the public to own since the early '40s. Like every invention the Television's popularity started off slow. At the end of World War Two about 8,000 households owned a television. At this point in time televisions were all black and white, small, and had no more than a few channels to choose from. The programming consisted of entertainment and there was little focus on news. One of the main reasons for this was that with the technology they were not able to broadcast up to date news programs. In 1962 Telstar was launched. Telstar was the first private communications satellite, and it...show more content... This further created space for more channels and for the content to be broadcasted more clearly. With all of the technological changes in the television there were far more social changed domestically and internationally because of its invention and progression. One of the most important effects television has had on society is the way we get our news. Many people know what is going on in the world because of television. They get all of their news form it, and with out it would have little idea of what is going on in the world. The invention of television made it possible for people to actually see what was going on in the world, opposed to radio and newspaper where you can only hear and read what is happening. The fact that you could now see the news brought a bought great social change in many aspects of society. The presidential debates were now broadcasted over the television an people could now base their decision on appearance, also the Vietnam war was in a way broadcasted through television, revealing the brutality for all of society to see. Vietnam was also the first American war to bring out a great deal of protestors. This may have been due to its broadcasting over television. It is also arguable that television dictates how the majority of society acts in general. People especially kids try to emulate the way people act, dress and basically do everything. And all they are emulating is what the large corporations, which control Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Television Programs Essay Television Programs There are many useful techniques greatly in television programmes and in their opening sequences. They are used to attract the viewer's attention while also creating a great way to show what the upcoming program is about. One of these techniques is the use of split screening; this is a very attractive way to put across what a programme is about, tone or genera. In the television soap 'Hollyoaks' the beginning shows a short clip of around thirty seconds to around a minute that gives a little incite into the episode, which is followed by the use of split screening in the opening credits. In this introduction there is a blue background, which shows a mellow tone while clips of...show more content... Using these techniques is clearly marking out what kind of programme is to come, through the used of humour shown in then opening scenes. The opening theme is slow and serious but also very catch. It could be linked to the likes of other police and emergency services documentaries like 'The Bill' because they are very similar in tone. In the television soap 'Eastenders' the opening credits starts on the centre of East London and pans out to show the larger area of East London. The most noticeable part of the introduction is the theme music used, it is a very catchy tune that even people who wouldn't normally watch the programme would recognise. The opening doesn't need to show any clips of other parts of its shows because unlike most television programmes it is continuously running so there is no need for it. The area shown is very grey and colourless showing a lower or even middle class type of place. People can relate to this type of viewing because the characters are based on working class people. This would also be 'Eastenders' target audience because of these types of people would be able to relate to the programme Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Television Production Essay ABSTRACT Television has been an excellent medium for entertainment and information ever since the invention of the electron scanning tube in 1923 by Vladimir Kosma Zworykin, who is considered the father of the modern television. With the conversion to digital format 1080i in 1998, there has been a boom in the production of different types and technologies for Televisions. A new generation of televisions has been developed, including liquid crystal display (LCD), rear projection, and high definition that provide amazing visual characteristics and can be integrated in to a home theater system. As the technology behind these televisions decreases in costs, more companies are entering the market. DLH Visions is a company that has a vision...show more content... Rosing transmitted crude geometrical patterns onto the television screen and was the first inventor to do so using a CRT. The first practical signal generating tubes were invented by Vladimir K. Present Day Almost all TVs in use today rely on cathode ray tube to display images. LCDs and plasma displays are sometimes seen, but they are still rare when compared to CRTs. It is even possible to make a television screen out of thousands of ordinary 60–watt light bulbs. It is possible to see at a football event, scoreboard. CRTs are the most common way of displaying images today. The terms anode and cathode are used in electronics as synonyms for positive and negative terminals. For example, one could refer to the positive terminal of a battery as the anode and the negative terminal as the cathode. In a cathode ray tube, the "cathode" is a heated filament (not unlike the filament in a normal light bulb). The heated filament is in a vacuum created inside a glass "tube." The "ray" is a stream of electrons that naturally pour off a heated cathode into the vacuum. Figure 1 Inside a Cathode Ray Tube Electrons are negative. The anode is positive, so it attracts the electrons pouring off the cathode. In a television cathode ray tube, the stream of electrons is focused by a focusing anode into a tight Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Television And The Future Of Television Essay What do we really mean by television? The way we watch television has drastically changed over the last fifteen years due to new technologies such as digital television and services providing on–demand access. These drastic changes have had a huge effect on viewers and have "allowed online streaming platforms to dominate and revolutionize the way the audience consumes" (Aliloupour) media, ultimately allowing the viewer to be in total control of how, when and where they want their content. The idea of only being able to watch television on a television set is now a thing of the past. Due to technology, the audience now has a vast variety of options on how they can access content. By using scholarly articles, research in new media and Internet sites I will be analyzing current television and where the future of television will be heading. The way the audience watches television has drastically changed since the birth of television. The viewer is "changing the rules" (Deign) of how we consume media and is no longer restricted to when they can access content. The company Netflix's is a great example of this. Netflix is currently the dominant company in the on–demand media industry and "isn't only changing the way that we watch television, but it's also revolutionizing the way that it is made"(Page). Compared to old methods of television networks where the viewer is required to tune in weekly at a designated time for a television show, Netflix's has allowed the viewer to watch Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Television can transmit images that are monochrome, in color, or in three dimensions. The word television comes . Television may also refer specifically to a television set, television program, or television transmission. First commercially available in very crude form on an experimental basis in the late 1920s, then popularized in greatly improved form shortly after World War II, the television set has become commonplace in homes, businesses, and institutions, particularly as a vehicle for entertainment, advertising, and news. During the 1950s, television became the primary medium for molding...show more content... The holes were spaced at equal angular intervals such that, in a single rotation, the disk would allow light to pass through each hole and onto a light–sensitive selenium sensor which produced the electrical pulses. As an image was focused on the rotating disk, each hole captured a horizontal "slice" of the entire image. Nipkow's design was not practical until advances in amplifier tube technology became available. Later designs used a rotating mirror–drum scanner to capture the image and a cathode ray tube as a display device, but moving images were still not possible due to the poor sensitivity of the selenium sensors. In 1907, Russian scientist Boris Rosing became the first inventor to use a CRT in the receiver of an experimental television system. He used mirror–drum scanning to transmit simple geometric shapes to the CRT. Using a Nipkow disk, Scottish inventor John Logie Baird successfully demonstrated the transmission of moving silhouette images in London in 1925 and of moving, monochromatic images in 1926. Baird's scanning disk produced an image of 30 lines resolution, just enough to discern a human face, from a double spiral of lenses. This demonstration by Baird is generally agreed to be the world's first true demonstration of TV, albeit a mechanical form no longer in use. Remarkably, in 1927, Baird also invented the world's first video recording system, "Phonovision;" because the signal Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. The History of Television Essay History of television and its influence on people lives. How did television revolutionize the world? TV, more commonly known as 'television' is one of the greatest inventions of the 20th century. In ancient Greek tГЁle means 'far', and in Latin visio means sight. From my perspective and many people of the world television has changed the way we live. Television has brought many amazing things, however nothing is perfect. Television sets were commercially available since the late 1920s but in very small quantities. Since then television had become a bit more common in houses or business institutions because of it's purposes. Which are entertainment, and news. In the 1950s, television shaped public opinion among citizens. After the...show more content... It was a breakthrough because it was the first one that would properly work. He demonstrated this by using a Nipkow disk, the disk was segregated into three sections, where each of those sections consisted of a spiral system with holes and them being covered by green, blue and red filter. As the disk would rotate, it would scan an image in all three colors, using all three systems with each turn of the disk this would generate a full colored image. Early electronic television Around 1930, it was seen that mechanical television would never be able to produce a proper quality which could be used for commercials and other programs. An electronic television needs a picture tube this allowed to display the picture and an electronic camera tube was needed in order to capture the image. Philo Farnsworth, produced images on his image dissector camera tube in 1927. However, the image dissector required too much light to be practical for television. One of the first electronic television broadcasting began in England in 1936. This was used for several years as BBC broadcasted 30 line mechanical television, by using the Baird system. As stated above the Baird system used a mechanical camera for filmed programming, and Farnsworth image dissector cameras for live programming. After testing out both system it was an obvious decision for BBC to use the all – electronic. In the united states, they realized the true potential of television. Since Bryan Cranston's performance alone was outstanding and thrilling, it kept the viewer at the edge of their seat wanting more. Because people wanted more, the show received high ratings which led to the growth of its popularity that catapulted the show to one of the top shows of the decade. Good taste meaning the arts held in the highest admiration by a culture, linking from our reading this week "which is available primarily in libraries, theatres, and museums.
