Gender Discrimination in
Employment
 Recruiting and selecting either mostly Male or
mostly female employees.
 Offering more benefits or incentives to either males
or females
 Using inappropriate behavior while interviewing a
female or a male
 Giving equal amount of work but paying less
Laws regarding gender
discrimination
 The Sex Discrimination Act of 1975 established the Equal
opportunities commission (EOC). Whose main duties were to work
towards the elimination of discrimination, to promote equality of
opportunity between sexes and to keep under review the workings of
the Sex Discrimination Act and the Equal pay act 1975. The EOC
helped individuals bring cases to Employment Tribunals and to the
courts. The EOC is now subsumed into the Equality and human right
commission (EHRC).
 The EHRC may do the following:
 Bring proceedings in respect of certain provisions and seek a
court injunction to restrain the repetition of an unlawful act
 Commence a claim before an employment tribunal on behalf of
an individual.
 Give practical guidance and advice to persons who appear to
have a complaint under the Acts.
Preventing Gender discrimination
 Move women onto the board of directors and into
the senior leadership.
 Recognize societal biases and stereotypes and
ensure the company’s policies and practices do not
reinforce them.
 Avoid illegal interview questions.
 Hire and promote gender neutrally.

 Minimize the gender gap when it comes to salary.
 Establish clear policies and procedures.
 Don't leave men out.
 Educate the organization from the top down.
 Evaluate work assignments.
Handling Gender Discrimination

authorities”
 “Be bold and strong while negotiating your salary”
 “Be assertive about your qualifications and
demands”
