INFO LIT ISLAND
2. WELCOME TO INFO LIT ISLAND
As you can see in the cover image and below:
Info lit Island is a virtual library with classrooms off the
main campus.
In physical reality it would be inconvenient to have
the library separated from campus,
But in virtual reality it is a short flight over the water.
3. THE LIBRARY HAS IVY LEAGUE STYLE
ARCHITECTURE
• Being virtual reality, I could choose a more modern
style
• I chose the Ivy League appearance because I think
it makes the building look distinguished.
• The blending of virtual emerging technologies and
the “look” of an established educational institution.
• This impression is traditionally conducive to learning
and studying.
• It would be fun to go to a virtual Harvard or
Columbia University
4. THE FACADE ON THE LEFT IS A “REAL”
LIBRARY AND THE ONE ON THE RIGHT IS
A VIRTUAL LIBRARY.
SIMILAR TO MY VISION
5. INTERIOR OF THE LIBRARY
• Library stacks should be big, high and spacious.
• The library should be traditionally furnished and
arranged.
• Access to books in the upper stacks can be reached by
flying.
• The following slide is an example of my vision of the type
of library I envision.
• The image on the right is from Harvard University – which
is the desired look.
• The image is the best virtual image I could find, I would
like the virtual library to look more like the Harvard
Stacks.
7. THE INFO LIT CLASSROOMS
• Info lit classrooms will be in the library building
• The classrooms will be lecture center type rooms in
the basement of the library.
• The reason for the lecture center rooms is so many
virtual students can inhabit the space.
• This is a required course, enrollment should be high.
• Multimedia features built into the coursework.
• Even if you are sitting in the back, you can zoom
into the professor, smart board or other teaching
tools.
9. SOCIAL SPACES
• Just like a library, Info Lit Island has places for
students to chat and exchange ideas.
• The image on the left obviously “real” college
students mingling while they study.
• The image on the right is a student walking into the
student lounge in second life ready to chat.
