2. A Large Image.
A large main image is used to show what the double page spread is
about, If this was a music magazine it would mostly be a famous star
who the double page spread and article is about. For a Documentary
perhaps the large image would be of the presenter or something
included in the documentary.
The image usually has direct address to engage the readers into the
article.
3. Large Quote – usually underneath main
image.
There is usually a large quote, something which has been said by who ever is
being interviewed or who ever the article is about. This quote is used to
entice or perhaps shock the audience into wanting to read more. If the
audience is flicking through the magazine, this is the first thing they will see
along with the main image, if the quote interests them (which is what Its used
for) then the audience will carry on reading the article.
4. Stand First.
A stand first is a little introduction before the article. If a celebrity was
included and the audience couldn’t tell who it was, they could read the stand
first to get simple information about who they are. For a documentary, the
stand first could explain what the documentary is about or why it was created
to entice people in reading the article and watching the documentary.
5. Drop Cap.
A drop cap is used to show the audience where to start reading. It is the first
letter of the article and is much larger to the rest of the article to highlight
where to start and draw attention.
6. Byline and Head Line
The byline is used to give credit to whoever has written the article, above the
article will be a name which is small. Bylines can also be used in photographs
to give credit to whoever has taken the photo.
A Headline draws initial attention to the article and double page spread and
makes the audience want to read more. It is short and snappy.
7. Colour Scheme
Double spreads follow a certain colour scheme throughout, this usually
correlation/connotes whatever the article/double page spread is about. For
example, if the article is about an RnB artist, the colour scheme would mostly
be dull, Red’s, Black, Gold’s etc.
