Question 3
1. Question 3: What kind of media
institution might distribute your
media product and why?
2. Bauer publishers are one of the most successful media
companies in the world, having published around 570
magazines across the world, showing they would be a
good choice as they are well respected in the media
industry, and would make my magazine successful and
respected as well. They entered the British media scene in
the 80’s with Bella magazine, showing how they can make
a female magazine popular, even when at the time
magazines where mainly aimed at men. This would make
it a good publisher for my magazine because it shows
how they can make a magazine appeal to the audience
and make it successful, which is what I would need as my
magazine would be a new one.
3. Bauer Media group would be a good publisher for my
magazine because they aim their magazines generally at
females, publishing magazines such as Cosmopolitan
and Bazar magazines, unlike Time Inc. who mainly
publish magazines aimed towards males, through
magazines like Sports Illustrated and Mountain Bike
Rider. Bauer would be more appropriate for my target
audience of females. Time Inc. aim there magazines at a
more upper class, older audience as they publish
magazines like Shooting Times and Yacht World, which
are magazines that are unappealing to my target
audience. Bauer, although has a middle age audience as
well, they target there magazines at a lower social class
with their women's weeklies, such as TVtimes and Take a
Break.
4. Question 6: What have you learnt
about technologies when
constructing your magazine?
5. Prezzi/Sway/Emaze- I used these to create creative and more appealing
presentations then using normal Microsoft word. By using these online
software's, I learnt the line from what looks professional and what looks
tacky, as applying too many filters and transitions can make the
presentations too confusing and over the top.
Panasonic Camera – I used this to take my images form my final piece.
Using the camera taught me to be more creative and thoughtful about my
images, due to having better quality and more control over the settings.
This allowed me to make my images more unique and suitable for the my
music magazine.
Blogger – I used blogger to upload all of my coursework onto. Blogger
allows me to keep all of my coursework in one place and in an organised
way, making the work easy to access and look back on. From using blogger
I have learnt how to upload to a blog and make it presentable, including
how to embed items and resize anything that does not fit onto the page.
Soundcloud – I used Soundcloud to upload my focus groups. It was an
easy way to upload and embed items onto my blog and keep the length
and quality of the sounds. I leant how to transform a voice note on my
phone to a MP3 file by using this software.
6. Photoshop – I used Photoshop for the construction of my front cover and
contents page, and also the editing of the images on my double page
spread. Photoshop allowed my to create my magazine more freely and
creatively, meaning my magazine would look as close to how I would have
planned it to. I learnt a range of techniques and skills including how to add
text, edit images and how to use the layers feature.
Imovie – I used iMovie to create my final focus group. I learnt the basics of
editing a video, by cutting and pasting clips of films and adding transitions
to make the film make sense and be clear.
InDesign – I used InDesign to make my Double page spread. From using
this I have also learnt the basics of this software, like how to add columns to
text boxes, and how to resize images and make sure the image is actually
changing size, and not just the size of the box.
Microsoft Documents – I used these software’s to make the more longer
pieces of work, as they are simple to use and edit, meaning that my work
could look professional and still be all there, which is slightly harder to do
on the online software’s like emze and prezzi.
