Canadian forces. There are planes flying overhead and there's a tank on your boat and all the other
boats have tanks. Then you hear your platoon leader saying "Men, we're on our way to a heavily
fortified beach head to take control of the beachhead. Securing the beachhead will help us stop
Hitler's plan to conquer the world for himself." When they were at the beach they had to keep their
heads low until the door opens and let the tank get through first so they could take cover behind it.
"And men, good luck out there."
Then you hear the boat intercom after a while about five minutes from the beach giving you your
orders. "Come on and you get your orders. " Your orders are to get to the top of the cliff and take
control of the beach head. Once we secure the beachhead we're gonna move on and take back the

The French army had recently been introduced to machine guns because they were behind in terms
of industrialization and warfare. The French had fallen behind in warfare, as Germany was focused
on further progression in military advancements and Britain was waging war in South Africa.
Everyone else seemed to be progressing because they needed to, unlike France. The French reaction

In "The Face of Battle," John Keegan analyzed the experiences of the individuals involved in the
battles of the Somme and Waterloo; he thoroughly examined the advancements of industrialization
in warfare and battle strategy between 1815 and 1916. The industrialization of modern warfare
during the battle of the Somme, while progressive, was very much still in its experimental stages.
While the inventions during this time period were later evolved into much more useful products, it
seems as though the organized warfare in Waterloo was much more effective; the soldier's mediocre
training for the Somme was obvious in the chaotic events that occurred. While each battle was
disastrous in their own ways, industrialization certainly improved means of warfare and the
experience that the soldiers had.
The warfare in Waterloo consisted primarily of rifles, swords, cavalry, and artillery; these weapons
were most effective close range which resulted in the French and British being in close proximity to

Tarawa is an atoll about 2400 miles Southwest of Hawaii. Betio is its largest islet on 3 miles long
and 1/2 miles wide on the west side with an airfield from east to west, with a lagoon bordering
Tarawa to the north with a bordering reef extending offshore around 1,200 yard. The water of the

The bill definitely has good intentions, but the fact of the matter is that these shootings are
anomalies. Since 2006, there have only been six cases in which ten or more people were killed in a
given shooting (USA Today). Therefore, these are not common events. At less than once per year for

The Technological Advancements Of World War II
William Pollard once said, "Learning and innovation go hand in hand. The arrogance of success is to
think that what you did yesterday will be sufficient tomorrow." Maybe the generals of World War 1
(WW1) should have been told this when they used cavalry when they were outdated and rifles and
machine guns were the weapons of this war. They found this out the hard way which sparked the
time of technological innovations and changes that was WW1. The three technological innovations I
will write about are machine guns, planes and tanks.
On the one hand, machine guns could be said to be significant because of the extra fire power they
provided on a battlefield. It has been estimated that a machine gun creates the equivalent to
anywhere between 60 to 100 rifles, depending on the source, in one weapon. This gave an army
defending a position a huge advantage over the attacking side and almost certainly prolonged the
stalemate as breaking enemy lines became so difficult as reaching the enemy trench was a near
impossible thing to do with the machine gun firing at the advancing infantry. It has been estimated
that around 20% of the casualties of world war 1 were caused by the machine gun. This figure is
very high considering all the possible causes of death in the battlefields of WW1. What also made
the machine gun of WW1 significant was how it affected the future. These early models were the
basis of a weapon used in all areas of the world ever since these first guns were used in WW1.

John Basilone. John Basilone was a Gunnery Sergeant in the United States Marine Corp who earned

October 1942 John Basilone and his Platoon were engaged in a battle at Guadalcanal that had

Japanese infantrymen rushed the remaining American lines. Sergeant Basilone, who was an
experienced machine gunner was in charge of two heavy machine gun sections, quickly organized

Gun Laws And Practices Regulate Gun Control
Guns have always been a major problem in the United States of America. The Second Amendment
to the Constitution gives us the right to "bear arms," which makes everyone feel they need to have a
gun, and that can lead to dangerous situations for people in the US. It is very easy to get yourself a
gun. It costs less than an iPhone to get. The problem I am trying to get at is that there are inevitably
going to be gun–use violations, and people can use the Second Amendment to get guns way too
easily. My essay will deal with how we can create laws and practices to regulate guns, how we can
stop guns from getting into the wrong hands, and also how we can prevent mass shootings.
This is all one big picture. There is a slippery slope, where one problem leads to another. I feel that
most people don't understand what the Second Amendment means to other people. Many people
think, "I have to carry a gun on me at all times" or, "Since I have the right to, I am going to buy
assault rifles and machine guns for the hell of it. See the Second Amendment." But nowhere in the
Second Amendment does it state that you have a right to bear arms to protect your home, or if you
feel you are in danger.
It is so easy to obtain almost any gun. I mean, someone could easily buy a machine gun or assault
rifle. A simple background check and it is yours. And unfortunately, these mass shootings do occur
as a result. These shooters can be homegrown terrorists, or tied to terrorist organizations overseas.

The Assault Rifle Ban
If the government would take a more rapid pace in a full assault weapon ban, then the murder rate in
the country would drop dramatically. The U.S. has one of the highest murder rates for developed
countries such as Japan who has a murder rate of 0.4 per 100,000 people and Britain with a 1.2 per
100,000 people. The U.S. has a murder rate of 4.7 per 100,000 people and it is not getting any better.
A ban on assault rifles would have a positive effect on the murder rate. Assault rifles are known to
be the most dangerous firearm in the world because of its rapid fire capability and its deadly range
and damage. That is what makes it such a unique and interesting weapon that should not be taken
lightly. The government has been working on some bills but they are not putting enough work into
making it happen. Senator Dianne Feinstein, who is in charge of the processes of the ban, is
suggesting is that the government passes a bill that will limit the capacity of ammunition in a
magazine and ban assault weapons that are too dangerous for public use. The safety of U.S. citizens
is vital and banning assault rifles will help make the United States a safer place.
Assault rifles are defined as one of the most dangerous firearms. The government is working to try
to solve the assault weapons crisis, a problem is what they need to ban and what do they need to

grenade launcher was a muzzle–loaded grenade that fit under the barrel of assault rifles such as the

Amongst the most lasting of factors stemming from the Civil War are the weapons that were
developed. Before the Civil War, the weapons used were highly unreliable, and were not advanced
enough to provide the needed defense for a young nation such as our own. Innovative minds created
many interesting ways to demolish their enemies without ever having to fire a shot or go into full
combat through different types of bombs that were in disguise. Among the advancements in the

James H. Burton, a master of arms, made a few alterations such as slightly lengthening the bullet

Technological Advancements During The First World War
"A nation 's ability to fight a modern war is as good as its technological ability." An English inventor
who was of great importance in the invention of the turbojet said these words. I partly agree with
him, as technology is the basis of most aspects of war. If a nation were to fight a war without the use
of technology it would fight with sticks and stones. Technological innovations in the First World
War (WW1) have led to much of the technology that we have today, ranging form the various
weapons modern armies are equipped with to the radios used for communication. If something is
significant then it has an important influence on a thing, such as an event, that will happen in the
future. In this way, did the technological innovations in WW1, such as gas, communications and the
machine gun, not only have an effect on the outcome of the war but also have an effect on how our
world is shaped today?
One technological innovation of the war was the use of poison gases, such as mustard gas. The use
of gas in WW1 was initially of huge importance as it was thought to be the weapon to break the
stalemate. During the war, Gas was a horrific weapon, which had the capability to inflict life–
endangering injuries, but as the war drew on, the technology for preventing its effects, such as gas
