2. What is film distribution?
Film distribution is the process of making a movie
available to an audience.
Companies who are looking to release films will try
and contact the most successful and well-known
film distributers so their films are seen by a wider
audience and so their film will have more chance of
being successful.
3. Importance of film distribution
It is important for the film distribution company to
publicise and promote the film as much as they can
before its release as an average of 30% of a films
sales are made within its first 3 days of release.
It is important that the film distributers publicize the
movie to the right target audience as this will have
a big impact on the sales it generates.
5. Marketability and Playability
Marketability is how the film is advertised to its
intended target audience and is based on how the
film is marketed.
Playability is how the film performs once it has been
released e.g. its ticket sales.
6. What do film distributors have
to think about?
When advertising and promoting the film, film distributors have to
keep in mind:
Who is the target audience?
Is there any competition? E.g. similar films being released at
the same time which may steal some of your target audience
Will the narrative of the film attract the intended target
audience?
Are there any big names within the film which could attract
audiences on their own? E.g. actors such as Brad Pitt
