Without Commercial Poem Analysis
A poem is a piece of writing that has the characteristics of a speech and a song. Poems awaken
strong emotions because of its magnificence. Alice Walker in "Without Commercials" discusses
some of the ways and reasons people try to change the way they look. "Without Commercials"
pinpoints at the idea of how advertisers suggest that a new pair of jeans will make one look more
popular or that a new hair color will make one more stylish. "Same Song" by Pat Mora is about how
a mom's two kids either wake up early in the morning or late at night, trying to change their
appearance. Both poems are based on the theme, don't be obsessed with your appearance. In

"Without Commercials" and "Same Song" both incorporate the theme, one shouldn't be obsessed
with their appearance. According to the poem, "Without Commercials", "For we are all splendid
descendants of Wilderness, Eden: needing only to see each other without commercials to believe."
As stated in the poem, "Same Song", "...Squeezes into faded jeans, curls her hair carefully, strokes
Aztec Blue shadow on her eyelids, smoothes Frosted Mauve blusher on her cheeks, outlines her
mouth in Neon Pink, peers into the mirror, mirror on the wall, frowns at her face, her eyes, her skin,
not fair." This proves that both poems try to teach the reader that they should not spend much time
on their appearance because they still won't be happy with it. Everyone is already wonderful the
way they are. Also, "Without Commercials" and "Same Song" use visual imagery. For example,
"Without Commercials" uses the words, "...To be able to see for a summer the whole world's darker
face reflected in your own. ...To be able to see for as long as you can bear it, the whole world's
lighter face reflected in your own. ...Needing only to see each other without commercials to
believe." For instance, "Same Song" uses the words, "...Strokes Aztec Blue shadow on her eyelids.
...Jogs a mile in the cold dark." This explains how both poems use imagery to describe the theme.
"Without Commercials" and "Same Song" both use an allusion. "Same Song" uses an allusion of
"Snow White" that is similar to when the evil queen asks, "Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the
fairest of them all?" And the mirror replies, "Snow White is the fairest of them all." Just like the evil
queen in "Snow White" who tries to be the most beautiful lady in the whole kingdom, the 16–year–
old son and 12–year–old daughter try to change their appearance and look the way they want but
they're still not happy with

My Stuffed Animal Bear : The Transformation Of Spectator...
Theories and objectives that I have embedded into my performance include the transformation of
spectator into the actor, image theatre, forum theatre and importance of proper speculation. It all
begins with my cultural artifact, my stuffed animal bear. My stuffed bear may not have a dramatic
history like many other objects out there in the world, but it does hold an important value for many
if not all. We all grew up having that one toy we deeply loved and were emotionally connected with
and for me, it was my bear. I first came into contact with it starting at a very young age and,
therefore, I am unable to put a date on it. Regardless, it is a priceless possession that I own and it 's
unknown value only appreciates with time. Stuffed animals are objects that are most commonly
given to children as gift and presents. What people do not realize is that it is more than just a
sentimental gift but rather a tool, a friend, and a companion to those receiving it. It is a tool because
it aids young kids to embrace their emotional side which they are often told to withhold especially if
they are boys. More than that, it is a friend and a lifelong companion, stuffed animals are typically
given to children before they are actually capable of making friends and, therefore, it is usually
considered their first attempt or first contact (Miller, 1999). According to Smith (2011), people in
modern day society overlook the importance of stuffed animals and its contribution cultivating our

Lightning Thief Classic
Classic? The first quality a classic must posses are universal themes. The Lightning Thief looks at
two co–existing worlds: the mortal world (the world as we know it) and the immortal world (the
world of the gods). Similarly we look at the mortal world as rational thinkers, while the immortal
world are religious. Percy Jackson learns that there are different versions of reality in the world, and
that "reality" is just the way people choose to interpret a situation. For example, if thunderstorms
wage on for a couple of weeks, the mortal world understands it as bad weather that has went on
longer than usual and nothing more, while the immortal world interprets the thunderstorms as a sign
of discontent between the Gods. In our world the rationalized ... Show more content on

Percy faces internal conflict in the novel. The fact that he has never met his real father and the fact
that his mom was kidnapped by Hades both pose internal problems for Percy during his quest. Percy
also has ADHD and dyslexia. Though the quest is shown in conflicts that involved physical
conflicts, Percy only was motivated to keep going, even if defeat was most likely the outcome was
because he wants to rescue his mother and so he could make his father Poseidon proud, even though
they never met. He uses his ADHD and Dyslexia as a keen battle sense as he was trained to

Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile
I believe in the sound of laughter: the crinkling of a pair eyes, so engrossed with a sense of humor
and a lovely persona. The upturn of a contagious smile that one cannot resist from mirroring. A
heartwarming compliment to change the belief that my generation is made up entirely of ignorance
of human emotion or interaction. I believe in happiness. In the movie "Annie," there is a song called
"You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile." The title hints that the song is about pairing
everyday life with a smile. My mother used to remind my sister and I frequently to smile on our way
out to the car to go to school. She would say something like, "Where's your smile?" or "Are you
going to wear your smile today?" As I look back, it seems ridiculous

Symbolism In Oranges By Gary Soto
Meaning of Symbols Symbols can represent meaning or what the poem is about. Symbols can be
small ideas or objects but contain a big meaning depending on what you want to represent with a
symbol. In the poem titled "Oranges" by Gary Soto the poet uses the chocolate candy bar as a
symbol to represent unhappiness. In another poem titled "Same Song" by Pat Mora the poet uses the
mirror as a symbol to represent sadness. The meaning of these symbols is similar because both
symbols represent something that they can not have. However, the difference of these symbols is
that in the poem "Oranges" the meaning of the chocolate becomes hope for Gary Soto because he
use the oranges to buy the chocolate for his girlfriend, and " Same Song" the mirror "always
represents" unhappiness because the children are uncomfortable with how they look.

The Norm Of Reciprocity Is Explored By Female And Male...
Introduction:
Because humans are perceptive animals, people would mirror their reactions with people around
them. These responses allow people to feel as if they are following a social norm by not doing
anything different from others. In this experiment, the norm of reciprocity is explored by female and
male researchers to not only investigate the truth of this theory, but also observe the between gender
differences to various facial expressions.
Hypothesis:
According to the norm of reciprocity, people are more likely to put the same expression as they see
on others because In terms of the difference between the reactions for female and male researchers,
both genders will most likely receive a smile more from females and the other ... Show more content

In the end, there were 257 students who completed the experiments, which means the results were
concluded from a total of 1542 subjects and responses.
Results:
The overall results collected by 257 students for each of the expression is roughly 2.8 for frown, 3.2
for neutral, and 3.9 for smile, each data at a statistically significant p–value of 0.001. This result
disproves the norm of reciprocity theory in the hypothesis since a frown received a response closer
to neutral.
Amongst the statistically significant data, male researchers received more smiles from the opposite
gender when making a neutral and a smile compared to its own gender at p<.01 for female
researchers is receiving more smiles from the opposite gender when making a neutral face. In
perspective of the difference between female and male researchers, females received more smiles
from the same gender while male researchers received more smiles from the opposite gender. These
data sets confirm the part in the hypothesis about men being less likely to offer a smile.
Discussion:
While conducting the experiment, there were still a few challenging factors. It was reported that
making eye contact with passerbys was relatively difficult. Most people were either occupied by
their phones or directly avoided eye contact. This makes the willing passersby a selective group of
individuals who were comfortable in exposing themselves at a level of

Mae Holland's The Circle: Modern Day Themes
The novel The Circle is the story of a technology and social media company whom has led Mae
Holland to make decisions that will soon affect the lives and futures of her friends, family, and that

The Circle is not only about the fast becoming of the ultimate proof of your goodness and value as a

One of those themes is modernization comes at a high price. This is seen throughout the first and

body and the companies managing his care. And there was nothing she could do for him. No, there
was too much to do for him. She could quit her job. She could quit and help make the phone calls,
fight the many fights to keep him well. This is what a good daughter would do. What a good child,

Meaning Of The Poem Ozymandias
Lines 1–2
I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said...
The poem begins immediately with an encounter between the speaker and a traveler that comes
from an "antique land." We're not sure about this traveler. He could be a native of this "antique"
land, or just a tourist returning from his latest trip. We don't know where this encounter is taking
place; is it on the highway? On a road somewhere? In London? Maybe if we keep reading we'll find
out. "Antique" means something really old, like that couch at your grandmother's or the bunny ears
on top of your television. The traveler could be coming from a place that is ancient, almost as if he
were time–traveling. Or he could just be coming from a place that has an older history, ... Show

It is "Ozymandias," the figure named in the title. "Ozymandias" was one of several Greek names for
Ramses II of Egypt. For more, see "What's Up with the Title." The inscription suggests that
Ozymandias is arrogant, or at least that he has grand ideas about his own power: he calls himself the
"king of kings." Ozymandias also brags about his "works." Maybe he's referring to the famous
temples he constructed at Abu Simbel or Thebes. He could also be calling attention to the numerous
colossal statues of him, such as the one described in this poem. Ozymandias's speech is ambiguous
here. On the one hand he tells the "mighty" to "despair" because their achievements will never equal
his "works." On the other hand, he might be telling the "mighty" to "despair" as a kind of warning,
saying something like "Don't get your hopes up guys because your statues, works, political regimes,
etc. will eventually be destroyed or fade away, with nothing to recall them but a dilapidated statue
half–buried in the sand."

Informative Essay About Smile
Introduction
Professor James V. McConnell, a psychologist at the University of Michigan, expressed his feelings
about a smile. "People who smile," he said, "tend to manage teach and sell more effectively, and to
raise happier children. There 's far more information in a smile than a frown. That 's why
encouragement is a much more effective teaching device than punishment" (Carnagie, 2010).
Historical Background
One may ask the history of the smile. Wilson (2012) explained some biologists believe that the
smile originated millions of years ago as a sign of fear; monkeys and apes, in an attempt to show
predators that they were harmless – apparently the barely clenched teeth of this "fear grin" were
meant to communicate this harmlessness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Benefits of Smiling
Vision Reporter (2016) concluded that smiling may seem like an involuntary response to something
cute or funny, but it is much more than that. He believes studies suggest that smiling, forced or not,
can have a positive effect on the mood, decrease stress levels, and even make everyone around feel
better (Vision Reporter, 2016). As Thich Nhat Hanh (n.d) points out, "sometimes your joy is the
source of your smile, but sometimes your smile can be the source of your joy". Shimamura, Ross, &
Bennett (2006) study determined the advantage of a happy face was observed even when faces were
inverted (upside down) and even when the salient perceptual feature (broad grin) was controlled
across. According to Kraft and Pressman (2012) study revealed that all smiling participants,
regardless of whether they were aware of smiling, had lower heart. Hagan (2010) supports the
research adds to mounting evidence that a happy disposition can have a powerful impact on health
as well as life expectancy conditions.
The Effect of Smiling in Human Brain
O'Doherty et al. (2003) examined the following:
[Abstract] The attractiveness of a face is a highly salient social signal, influencing mate choice and
other social judgements. In this study, we used event–related functional magnetic resonance imaging

Analysis Of My Papa's Waltz By Theodore Roethke

interpretation that Roethke writes "My Papa's Waltz" reflecting on his relationship with his father. A

Roethke mentions how he "hung on like death" and how his father "held [his] wrist" not his hand.
From these two lines we can already see how Roethke is in some kind of danger or trouble, for he
"hung on like death" which serves to explain how he barely survives–––he has much trouble staying

the wrist. Further, Roethke mentions his mother whose "countenance" "could not unfrown itself."
Many argue the author implies that his mother frowns at the sight of the "pans" falling in the
"kitchen." Analyzing closely, one can conclude that it is unreasonable for a mother to just frown and
watch her "pans" fall–––logically, she would react in some other form by trying to stop it. Since the
author does not mention any movement, it is reasonable to believe that the mother just stands there
with a frown because her eyes come across a horrific image that she freezes in fear and can only

Theme Of Keep A Pluggin Away By Alan Gratz
Alan Gratz's novel, Code of Honor, and Paul Laurence Dunbar's poem, Keep A–Pluggin Away, both
have a strong theme. Both Gratz and Dunbar want the reader to examine the theme perseverance.
However, Gratz demonstrates the theme of perseverance with the characters and Dunbar shows
perseverance with the use of figurative language. Gratz and Dunbar both exhibit the theme of
perseverance in their literature. In Gratz's Code of Honor, he states "Never give up" on page 38, 40,
and more. Dunbar's Keep A–Pluggin Away says "Keep a–pluggin away" many times in his poem to
show the theme. These examples prove that both Gratz and Dunbar want their readers to use
perseverance in their daily lives. In the book and the poem, they talk about a person's struggles and
how you should keep going and never give up. Both pieces of literature show that perseverance with

How I Taught Me Multiple Things Other Than Improving My...
This class has taught me multiple things other than improving my writing. I learned how to work
with different people for a common goal, which was to complete our project and pass this course.
However, things didn't go as smoothly as I had expected, all of my partners were taking a few
different courses and time was crucial to us. Summer school being a fast session did put us up
against great obstacles but in the end we all prevailed and completed our portion of the work. I
being an older student was worried about my familia not doing their portion of the work, which
stressed me out and left me always bringing up our group project to see if they were coming up
ideas as I was. I must admit no one gave me any, nor presented me with any of their thoughts or
ideas, and there was some procrastination going on. Although, Sharon was one person who was
always prepared and ready to speak up and share her thoughts, which gave me some confidence that
we would get through this. Once time came around for our presentation, Sharon had mentioned that
working on google docs would be a good idea, because we could all do our portion of the work
without actually meeting up; which was nearly impossible due to our busy schedules. Johnny and
Rae had mentioned that they are going to be extremely busy and they would rather present the
project as long as we told them what we had prepared. Melissa and Scott both added their portions
to the google docs, and left me quite impressed I believe our

Reflection Paragraph: Multicultural Perspectives In...
Reflection Paragraph: Multicultural Perspectives Healthcare is about helping others improve their
life, practitioners within this field have kept a promise not to harm the people. At the other end of
the spectrum, practitioners are humans as well, holding values dear to them and it might not
synthesize with others. As a future occupational therapy assistant (OTA) I have values that I hold
dear myself; I find it infuriating to see care basing on classification and abortion as a personal bias.
The concept of class structure in healthcare where the basis of the nature of insurance coverage has
created an ethical dilemma that borders on a complete disregard for religious beliefs. The fact that
treatment sometimes depends on the patient's influence borders on discrimination (Perlman, 2005).
Catholic teachings of social justice advocate very strongly on equal treatment of people in the

What Is The Meaning Of My Papa's Waltz Poem
From reading the poem "My Papa's Waltz" by Theodore Roethke a person could take away one of
two different meanings behind the poem. The two meanings that one could take are as such, it is
either a fond outlook on a father coming home drunk after work and playing with his child, or it is a
dark outlook of a drunk father coming home and beating his child. While how one interprets it is
based on their personal schema during the first time reading the poem, it could be argued that upon
further examination of the poem it is obviously the fond outlook of a friendly father. The poem does
this with multiple literary devices, all of which seem to have a double meaning in order to have one
base how they feel from the first reading on their personal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net
...
This is a positive meaning because most people enjoy the feeling of being drunk as it numbs them to
the negativity in the world. Within the second stanza is also a use of imagery that again has a two
possible meanings depending on one's personal schema. The imagery used in stanza is making the
mental picture of a feeling. While those with more negative life experiences or outlooks may
interpret "My mother's countenance, Could not unfrown itself" with a negative meaning that the
mother could not get the frown off of her face unless the beating stopped. On the other hand those
with more positive outlooks may experience this line as a mother wanting to be upset with the father
for being so rambunctious with the child, but cannot maintain the frown because of the overall
silliness and joy experienced by both parties involved. Thus the mother could not remove the frown
herself through thinking about it, but could have it removed by watching the father and child.
Finally one of the most arguable points that the poem is about an actual dance is in how the poem
uses structure. The poem uses structure by having each stanza have four lines as well as an ABAB
rhyme scheme both of which are common in songs, especially those which are danced too.
Furthermore when you read the poem aloud there is a sort of musical flow to the poem, at least more
so than some other poems. It is because of the poems musical nature that its

Sound and Sense (Discussion) In Percy Shelley's "Ozymandias", he uses sound and sense devices to
strengthen the overall imagery and to emphasize certain points in the poem. Key devices which the
author utilizes, include rhyme, meter, alliteration and consonance. "Ozymandias" is a sonnet written

does follow iambic pentameter sometimes which implies that each group contains an unstressed

felony charges. Since the Part I crime is more of a serious crime, it is more than likely to be reported
to police. The index crimes consist of murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, forcible rape,
robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny–theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson. Part II crimes
(non–index crimes) are the less serious offenses. The Part II offenses are human trafficking,
commercial sex acts, human trafficking involuntary servitude, forgery counterfeiting, fraud,
embezzlement, stolen property, vandalism, weapons, and prostitution and commercialized vice, sex
offenses, gambling, offenses against family and children, driving under the influence, liquor laws,
drunkenness, disorderly conduct, vagrancy, suspicion, curfew and loitering, and drug abuse
violations. When gathering data for the Uniform Crime Report the Part II crimes are not included

Gender Segments And Sex Groups During Childhood And Early...
Intro: Gender cleavage refers to the tendency for children of the same gender to self–segregate into
two same–sex groups, male and female. This phenomenon appears to be a primary factor
influencing social and cognitive development during childhood and early adolescence. The peer–
reviewed article discussed in this paper focuses on gender cleavage in addition to age–related
variances and sex differences during middle childhood.
Peer–Review Article: The main point of the article is to analyze cross–sectional data from group
preference surveys to determine sex and age–related differences in gender cleavage so that
researchers can identify possible developmental aspects in gender cleavage for both boys and girls.
Middle childhood gender cleavage studies based on the work of Moreno in 1953, are the foundation
of this investigation. The article never clearly stated a hypothesis, but from reading the article, it is
possible to make the assumption that researchers were interested in determining why children break
up into same–sex groups during critical periods of childhood development and how gender and age
play a role in this phenomenon (Smith et al., 2001).
Data was collected from 299 students across three coeducational public schools in Australia in 2005.
Children in grades 3–6 were the participants in this study. These schools were chosen because they
represented diverse socioeconomic divisions, sizes, and school atmosphere and culture. Students
were sampled by class groups; one

Facial Expression In Hilborn's Speech
As indicated before, the human face is very expressive. This point combined with the fact that "the
information relayed to the brain in visual presentations, 83% comes via the eyes, 11% via the ears,
and 6% through the other senses." (Ibid) leads us to the conclusion that facial expression in a
performance plays a vital role in creating mutual feelings between the performer and audience.
Hilborn used this technique to enhance his already well–established connection with the audience.
His facial expression throughout the performance was precisely in line with the speaker's feeling.
Beginning from the initial incident, his face color and expression, relaxed facial muscles, steady
gaze and a gentle smile, indicated calmness. This expression displayed the speaker's true happiness
in recalling his beloved and their first encounter. (Figure 7)
When he expressed OCD symptoms his face would slowly turn red, his neck becomes more rigid
and, his teeth clench. However, he still holds his smile all the while. This gives the audience the
impression that although he was disgusted, angry and anxious about his condition, as long as he had

This is most evident when he repeats the line "blows out candles–" seven times which is the longest
repetition in this performance. This repetition shows rereading compulsion and its length indicate
that the speaker is losing the battle with OCD as his power wore out due to his broken heart. Since
his mental strength is no longer capable of controlling his obsessive thinking to stop himself from
repeating the line he resorts to physical reaction. He frowns, turns his left hand into a fist and
suddenly moves it toward his head as if to hit himself on the head, stamping his foot. (Figure

Personal Narrative: Jackson The Grand Teton National Elk...
Jackson, Wyoming was typical small town America. You couldn't spit without hitting a building or
several. Yet, unlike most small towns, Jackson was a thriving tourist destination as it served as a
gateway to the Grand Teton National Park, Yellowstone National Park, and National Elk Refuge.
Though the town itself only hosted close to ten thousand souls. Compared to Miami, Jackson was
quaint and serene, his own personal refuge. As sheriff his worst fear was the occasional drunk
tourist or rowdy local, as opposed to a barrage of lead. He may still wear his vest, but at least he
didn't have to pop anxiety pills anymore. Well, at least now when he took them it wasn't because of
having lived in Miami. The silence between him and Kylie was deafening, the rapid thuds of
Mason's heart competed with the growl of the engine, for occupation of his ears. More than two
decades separated them. At nineteen the man followed his best friend in joining the Army, while she
was sent to live with him on charges that he suspected were at best over dramatized. A subject they

Mexico-Personal Narrative
Everything was so new and yet so familiar. Places I have seen and places I have not. A new and

Two and a half years I have spent in mexico, It didn't feel like it. It more likely felt like a longer

Sitting in the back of the car with my younger brother and sister memories started coming back. I
could hear the water from the river in mexico in my head. The voice of my cousin yelling and the
laughter of my uncle. The crying of my baby cousin and the sound of cooking food. Then the funny

Comparing Rand's Anthem 'And 1984'
Dystopia and Societal Pressures
Two novels that were read this year and that share the most in common are Rand's

hindered by the government that they live in. In both novel's governments the idea of being your

Nagel's Mind And Cosmos: Why The Materialist Neo-Darwinism?
This essay will be an explanation of Thomas Nagel's book, Mind and Cosmos: Why the Materialist
Neo–Darwinian Conception of Nature is Almost Certainly False. I will go on to explain the
problems with the materialistic ways of Darwinism, along with what Nagel sees as a resolution to
the problem he sees in Darwin's materialist natural selection. In this book, Nagel expands on three
main arguments, such as the H2O argument, reductionism, and finally moral realism.
Thomas Nagel incorporates a non–materialistic view onto Darwin's materialistic views of human
nature, as Nagel elaborates on in his book that it would not be possible to demonstrate that mental
states must follow from our brain states, or what kinds of mental states follow from what

The Armed Detective Agency: A Short Story
To put it both simply and lightly, this day seemed to be nothing more than a sequence of
inconveniences. The Armed Detective Agency was an organization that never seemed to be short of
members, yet for an organization with little need for addition individuals, they seemed to be
expanding uncharacteristically quickly. The idea of expanding their headquarters with the expansion
of their members had been one that had been discussed several times in the past, yet it never seemed
like a necessity until quite recently. To compensate for the vast amount of changes, the expansion
had all but been solidified. It wouldn't be correct to conclude that he wasn't thankful for the change

astonishing, and moving said items was without a doubt, most difficult task he had ever been placed
on in memory.
But, up until this point, Dazai had skillfully managed to cheat his way out of the majority of the

Botox Severe crow's feet around the eyes and frown lines around the mouth tend to age the face
beyond the physical years. One way to treat these marks of age is with Botox. This injectible
medicine helps diminish the look of crow's feet and frown lines, giving the face a softer, smoother
appearance. The total effects are seen with 48 hours of the injection and those results can last up to
four months. If you want to turn back the hands of time, Botox is an effective option. Voluma As

positivity you need in this compound. We need a good caretaker of any children in this facility. Last

Norman Percevel Rockwell's The Young Lady With The Shiner
American illustrator Norman Percevel Rockwell, a contributor for The Saturday Evening Post,
published an oil painting called The Young Lady With The Shiner on May 23, 1953 (Best Norman
Rockwell Art). The piece depicts a bruised, messy, ginger schoolgirl sitting on a bench outside of a
principal's office where a woman, possibly her mother, and the principal converse about the girl's
supposed consequence. The girl's sloppy clothes and untidy hair imply that she involved herself in a
fight, resulting in injuries and a sloppy appearance. Rockwell wants the viewer to sympathise for the
girl based on the tone and expressions of the painting. Colors attract the viewer, which determines
the perspective of how someone sees a work of art. For example, the girl's tartan skirt captivates the

The idea of punishing children emit gloomy vibes because children should not be at fault for any
problem. In fact, as people in society, oblivious children still need to learn how to appropriately act
as adults, therefore, the audience feels sympathy for the girl and wants to support her into becoming
proper. Secondly, the girl wears a smile, rather than a frown or scowl. When a child gets in trouble,
they become upset; thus, they scowl, frown, etc. However, the smiling girl seems proud of her
actions, and her black eye represents a "mark of a trophy" instead of a filthy wound (Rockwell). To
add on, her grin implies positive intentions, rather than negative ones; a scowl shows shame which
implies negative actions. In contrast, the principal and supposed mother in the background peer at
the grinning girl with worry and shame. Despite the serious, anxious adults that condemn the girl's
rough actions, the schoolgirl still smiles proudly. Rockwell's art piece persuades the audience to
sympathise with the girl using the bright, yet childlike colors followed by the schoolgirl's proud

Nonverbal Communication Essay
Nonverbal Communication Any communication interaction involves two major components in
terms of how people are perceived: verbal, or what words are spoken and nonverbal, the cues such
as facial expressions, posture, verbal intonations, and other body gestures. Many people believe it is
their words that convey the primary messages but it is really their nonverbal cues. The hypothesis
for this research paper was: facial expressions directly impact how a person is perceived. A brief
literature search confirmed this hypothesis. Every communication interaction involves two parts: the
verbal and the nonverbal. Furthermore, every person is always communicating even when they are

Body Individuals are perceived according to their facial expressions more so than the words they
speak. The aspect of nonverbal communication has been studied extensively for at least four
decades. During the 1960s, volumes were printed about "body language." While that label has
become trite to the point of jokes, the subject itself is valid and has been given a more appropriate
label: nonverbal communication. Words, in and of themselves, do not convey the entire message in
any communication interaction. There are always nonverbal cues. Even in a telephone conversation,
there is are cues in terms of voice inflection, tone, volume, speed. Loudness and/or a harsh tone, for
instance, communicates hostility and/or anger. Whether the speaker means to convey that message
or not is immaterial because it is the listener's interpretation that will set the tone for the rest of the
conversation. It is difficult enough to interpret words accurately, in fact, there are no doubt more
misinterpreted messages than not (Cherney and Tynan, 1990). When the element of nonverbal is
incorporated, the rate of misinterpretations increases dramatically (Elgin, 1980). Most people are
surprised to learn exactly how much information they communicated about themselves through their
facial expressions. The intricacies of what one does with their the eyes, eyebrows, forehead, lips,
tongue, teeth, and mouth while listening or talking combine to send some

Informative Speech : A Speech On Halloween Weddings
All of us know that feeling, you know, that one when you walk into a room full of strangers and
have a nervous pit in our stomach. You know, kind of like each time we have to come in front of this
class to give a speech? Some of us will come up with a wide, teeth showing smile, with confidence
and attitude, like, ya, I got this! While others will awkwardly approach the front of the class with
pierced lips, maybe even biting them a little without showing much of our pearly whites, rather a
nervous smirk of a smile. No matter how you present yourself in front of this class, the definition of
smile, according to Merrian–Webster dictionary, is, "a facial expression in which the eyes brighten
and the corners of the mouth curve slightly upward and which expresses especially amusement,
pleasure, approval or sometimes scorn". A smile tells us many things about a person and today, I
will be presenting you with what smiles mean to all of us.
When I think of people's each unique smile or presentation of how people smile, I relate it to
costumes at a Halloween party. People all have a certain way and a reason they smile the way they
do in certain situations just as people choose different Halloween costumes to present themselves a
certain way at parties. There are three points I will be discussing further in regards to people and
their smiles. My first topic will explore why people smile. My second one will be how nerves can
cause people to smile with certain situations. My third topic is the benefits of smiling. And lastly, is
if smiling is contagious or isn't it.
After reading the blog by Leo Widrich, The Science of smiling: What happens to the brain when we
smile, I learned that, "Smiling stimulates our brain's reward mechanisms in a way that even
chocolate, a well–regarded pleasure–inducer, cannot match". This in itself would make many
understand the benefits of smiling all of the time. It gives us rewards that benefit our lives. I also
believe that smiling is like picking a Halloween costume for a party. You see, having a big, open
smile makes you approachable, just like picking a Halloween costume such as Mickey Mouse.
When you use your smile to be the first thing others notice, you seem more warm, open, welcoming,

Without Commercial Poem Analysis

  • 1. Without Commercial Poem Analysis A poem is a piece of writing that has the characteristics of a speech and a song. Poems awaken strong emotions because of its magnificence. Alice Walker in "Without Commercials" discusses some of the ways and reasons people try to change the way they look. "Without Commercials" pinpoints at the idea of how advertisers suggest that a new pair of jeans will make one look more popular or that a new hair color will make one more stylish. "Same Song" by Pat Mora is about how a mom's two kids either wake up early in the morning or late at night, trying to change their appearance. Both poems are based on the theme, don't be obsessed with your appearance. In "Without Commercials" by Alice ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "Without Commercials" and "Same Song" both incorporate the theme, one shouldn't be obsessed with their appearance. According to the poem, "Without Commercials", "For we are all splendid descendants of Wilderness, Eden: needing only to see each other without commercials to believe." As stated in the poem, "Same Song", "...Squeezes into faded jeans, curls her hair carefully, strokes Aztec Blue shadow on her eyelids, smoothes Frosted Mauve blusher on her cheeks, outlines her mouth in Neon Pink, peers into the mirror, mirror on the wall, frowns at her face, her eyes, her skin, not fair." This proves that both poems try to teach the reader that they should not spend much time on their appearance because they still won't be happy with it. Everyone is already wonderful the way they are. Also, "Without Commercials" and "Same Song" use visual imagery. For example, "Without Commercials" uses the words, "...To be able to see for a summer the whole world's darker face reflected in your own. ...To be able to see for as long as you can bear it, the whole world's lighter face reflected in your own. ...Needing only to see each other without commercials to believe." For instance, "Same Song" uses the words, "...Strokes Aztec Blue shadow on her eyelids. ...Jogs a mile in the cold dark." This explains how both poems use imagery to describe the theme. "Without Commercials" and "Same Song" both use an allusion. "Same Song" uses an allusion of "Snow White" that is similar to when the evil queen asks, "Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?" And the mirror replies, "Snow White is the fairest of them all." Just like the evil queen in "Snow White" who tries to be the most beautiful lady in the whole kingdom, the 16–year– old son and 12–year–old daughter try to change their appearance and look the way they want but they're still not happy with ... • 2. My Stuffed Animal Bear : The Transformation Of Spectator... Theories and objectives that I have embedded into my performance include the transformation of spectator into the actor, image theatre, forum theatre and importance of proper speculation. It all begins with my cultural artifact, my stuffed animal bear. My stuffed bear may not have a dramatic history like many other objects out there in the world, but it does hold an important value for many if not all. We all grew up having that one toy we deeply loved and were emotionally connected with and for me, it was my bear. I first came into contact with it starting at a very young age and, therefore, I am unable to put a date on it. Regardless, it is a priceless possession that I own and it 's unknown value only appreciates with time. Stuffed animals are objects that are most commonly given to children as gift and presents. What people do not realize is that it is more than just a sentimental gift but rather a tool, a friend, and a companion to those receiving it. It is a tool because it aids young kids to embrace their emotional side which they are often told to withhold especially if they are boys. More than that, it is a friend and a lifelong companion, stuffed animals are typically given to children before they are actually capable of making friends and, therefore, it is usually considered their first attempt or first contact (Miller, 1999). According to Smith (2011), people in modern day society overlook the importance of stuffed animals and its contribution cultivating our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Lightning Thief Classic Classic? The first quality a classic must posses are universal themes. The Lightning Thief looks at two co–existing worlds: the mortal world (the world as we know it) and the immortal world (the world of the gods). Similarly we look at the mortal world as rational thinkers, while the immortal world are religious. Percy Jackson learns that there are different versions of reality in the world, and that "reality" is just the way people choose to interpret a situation. For example, if thunderstorms wage on for a couple of weeks, the mortal world understands it as bad weather that has went on longer than usual and nothing more, while the immortal world interprets the thunderstorms as a sign of discontent between the Gods. In our world the rationalized ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Percy faces internal conflict in the novel. The fact that he has never met his real father and the fact that his mom was kidnapped by Hades both pose internal problems for Percy during his quest. Percy also has ADHD and dyslexia. Though the quest is shown in conflicts that involved physical conflicts, Percy only was motivated to keep going, even if defeat was most likely the outcome was because he wants to rescue his mother and so he could make his father Poseidon proud, even though they never met. • 4. Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile I believe in the sound of laughter: the crinkling of a pair eyes, so engrossed with a sense of humor and a lovely persona. The upturn of a contagious smile that one cannot resist from mirroring. A heartwarming compliment to change the belief that my generation is made up entirely of ignorance of human emotion or interaction. I believe in happiness. In the movie "Annie," there is a song called "You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile." The title hints that the song is about pairing everyday life with a smile. My mother used to remind my sister and I frequently to smile on our way out to the car to go to school. She would say something like, "Where's your smile?" or "Are you going to wear your smile today?" As I look back, it seems ridiculous ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Symbolism In Oranges By Gary Soto Meaning of Symbols Symbols can represent meaning or what the poem is about. Symbols can be small ideas or objects but contain a big meaning depending on what you want to represent with a symbol. In the poem titled "Oranges" by Gary Soto the poet uses the chocolate candy bar as a symbol to represent unhappiness. In another poem titled "Same Song" by Pat Mora the poet uses the mirror as a symbol to represent sadness. The meaning of these symbols is similar because both symbols represent something that they can not have. However, the difference of these symbols is that in the poem "Oranges" the meaning of the chocolate becomes hope for Gary Soto because he use the oranges to buy the chocolate for his girlfriend, and " Same Song" the mirror "always represents" unhappiness because the children are uncomfortable with how they look. The poem titled "Oranges" by Gary Soto is about a boy who is twelve years old. He was walking with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The poem titled, "Same Song" by Pat Mora is about Pat Mora's son and her daughter are unhappy because they do not like how they look. Her daughter has dark skin and she puts makeup on, and her son was obsessed with exercising to look better. . One of the symbols the poet uses is a mirror. The symbol represents how they look and a reflection of themselves but they are unhappy about how they look. Evidence in the poem that suggests this meaning is found in stanza #1. • 6. The Norm Of Reciprocity Is Explored By Female And Male... Introduction: Because humans are perceptive animals, people would mirror their reactions with people around them. These responses allow people to feel as if they are following a social norm by not doing anything different from others. In this experiment, the norm of reciprocity is explored by female and male researchers to not only investigate the truth of this theory, but also observe the between gender differences to various facial expressions. Hypothesis: According to the norm of reciprocity, people are more likely to put the same expression as they see on others because In terms of the difference between the reactions for female and male researchers, both genders will most likely receive a smile more from females and the other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the end, there were 257 students who completed the experiments, which means the results were concluded from a total of 1542 subjects and responses. Results: The overall results collected by 257 students for each of the expression is roughly 2.8 for frown, 3.2 for neutral, and 3.9 for smile, each data at a statistically significant p–value of 0.001. This result disproves the norm of reciprocity theory in the hypothesis since a frown received a response closer to neutral. Amongst the statistically significant data, male researchers received more smiles from the opposite gender when making a neutral and a smile compared to its own gender at p<.01 for female researchers is receiving more smiles from the opposite gender when making a neutral face. In perspective of the difference between female and male researchers, females received more smiles from the same gender while male researchers received more smiles from the opposite gender. These data sets confirm the part in the hypothesis about men being less likely to offer a smile. Discussion: While conducting the experiment, there were still a few challenging factors. It was reported that making eye contact with passerbys was relatively difficult. Most people were either occupied by their phones or directly avoided eye contact. This makes the willing passersby a selective group of individuals who were comfortable in exposing themselves at a level of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Mae Holland's The Circle: Modern Day Themes The novel The Circle is the story of a technology and social media company whom has led Mae Holland to make decisions that will soon affect the lives and futures of her friends, family, and that of humankind. The Circle is not only about the fast becoming of the ultimate proof of your goodness and value as a human being, but it is also about the modern–day themes that affects our lives today. One of those themes is modernization comes at a high price. • 10. Meaning Of The Poem Ozymandias Lines 1–2 I met a traveller from an antique land Who said... The poem begins immediately with an encounter between the speaker and a traveler that comes from an "antique land." We're not sure about this traveler. He could be a native of this "antique" land, or just a tourist returning from his latest trip. We don't know where this encounter is taking place; is it on the highway? On a road somewhere? In London? Maybe if we keep reading we'll find out. "Antique" means something really old, like that couch at your grandmother's or the bunny ears on top of your television. The traveler could be coming from a place that is ancient, almost as if he were time–traveling. Or he could just be coming from a place that has an older history, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is "Ozymandias," the figure named in the title. "Ozymandias" was one of several Greek names for Ramses II of Egypt. For more, see "What's Up with the Title." The inscription suggests that Ozymandias is arrogant, or at least that he has grand ideas about his own power: he calls himself the "king of kings." Ozymandias also brags about his "works." Maybe he's referring to the famous temples he constructed at Abu Simbel or Thebes. He could also be calling attention to the numerous colossal statues of him, such as the one described in this poem. Ozymandias's speech is ambiguous here. On the one hand he tells the "mighty" to "despair" because their achievements will never equal his "works." On the other hand, he might be telling the "mighty" to "despair" as a kind of warning, saying something like "Don't get your hopes up guys because your statues, works, political regimes, etc. will eventually be destroyed or fade away, with nothing to recall them but a dilapidated statue half–buried in the sand." 12–14 Nothing beside remains: round the ... • 11. Informative Essay About Smile Introduction Professor James V. McConnell, a psychologist at the University of Michigan, expressed his feelings about a smile. "People who smile," he said, "tend to manage teach and sell more effectively, and to raise happier children. There 's far more information in a smile than a frown. That 's why encouragement is a much more effective teaching device than punishment" (Carnagie, 2010). Historical Background One may ask the history of the smile. Wilson (2012) explained some biologists believe that the smile originated millions of years ago as a sign of fear; monkeys and apes, in an attempt to show predators that they were harmless – apparently the barely clenched teeth of this "fear grin" were meant to communicate this harmlessness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Benefits of Smiling Vision Reporter (2016) concluded that smiling may seem like an involuntary response to something cute or funny, but it is much more than that. He believes studies suggest that smiling, forced or not, can have a positive effect on the mood, decrease stress levels, and even make everyone around feel better (Vision Reporter, 2016). As Thich Nhat Hanh (n.d) points out, "sometimes your joy is the source of your smile, but sometimes your smile can be the source of your joy". Shimamura, Ross, & Bennett (2006) study determined the advantage of a happy face was observed even when faces were inverted (upside down) and even when the salient perceptual feature (broad grin) was controlled across. According to Kraft and Pressman (2012) study revealed that all smiling participants, regardless of whether they were aware of smiling, had lower heart. Hagan (2010) supports the research adds to mounting evidence that a happy disposition can have a powerful impact on health as well as life expectancy conditions. The Effect of Smiling in Human Brain O'Doherty et al. • 12. Analysis Of My Papa's Waltz By Theodore Roethke Theodore Roethke's poem, "My Papa's Waltz" spurs passionate academic debates among professors, scholars, and students; the imagery, context, and diction of the poem clearly supports the interpretation that Roethke writes "My Papa's Waltz" reflecting on his relationship with his father. A relationship in which, notably, causes harm to the author. However, through all the nights Roethke spent in pain and in horror, his love for his father still exists. While many people believe that the author tells a lovely story of a fond memory with his father, it is not possible that the use of negative imagery and negative diction does not play a role in the story told. Furthermore, the negative imagery in "My Papa's Waltz" strengthens the interpretation that the poem is about abuse. Throughout the entire poem the author noticeably creates multiple negative images. Roethke mentions how he "hung on like death" and how his father "held [his] wrist" not his hand. From these two lines we can already see how Roethke is in some kind of danger or trouble, for he "hung on like death" which serves to explain how he barely survives–––he has much trouble staying on. His father also does not hold his hand; he holds his "wrist," as if he were getting his son in trouble. If his father would to "waltz," as in dance with his son, he would hold him by the hand not the wrist. Further, Roethke mentions his mother whose "countenance" "could not unfrown itself." Many argue the author implies that his mother frowns at the sight of the "pans" falling in the "kitchen." Analyzing closely, one can conclude that it is unreasonable for a mother to just frown and watch her "pans" fall–––logically, she would react in some other form by trying to stop it. Since the author does not mention any movement, it is reasonable to believe that the mother just stands there with a frown because her eyes come across a horrific image that she freezes in fear and can only frown upon this sight. • 13. Theme Of Keep A Pluggin Away By Alan Gratz Alan Gratz's novel, Code of Honor, and Paul Laurence Dunbar's poem, Keep A–Pluggin Away, both have a strong theme. Both Gratz and Dunbar want the reader to examine the theme perseverance. However, Gratz demonstrates the theme of perseverance with the characters and Dunbar shows perseverance with the use of figurative language. Gratz and Dunbar both exhibit the theme of perseverance in their literature. In Gratz's Code of Honor, he states "Never give up" on page 38, 40, and more. Dunbar's Keep A–Pluggin Away says "Keep a–pluggin away" many times in his poem to show the theme. These examples prove that both Gratz and Dunbar want their readers to use perseverance in their daily lives. I learned how to work with different people for a common goal, which was to complete our project and pass this course. However, things didn't go as smoothly as I had expected, all of my partners were taking a few different courses and time was crucial to us. Summer school being a fast session did put us up against great obstacles but in the end we all prevailed and completed our portion of the work. I being an older student was worried about my familia not doing their portion of the work, which stressed me out and left me always bringing up our group project to see if they were coming up ideas as I was. I must admit no one gave me any, nor presented me with any of their thoughts or ideas, and there was some procrastination going on. Although, Sharon was one person who was always prepared and ready to speak up and share her thoughts, which gave me some confidence that we would get through this. Once time came around for our presentation, Sharon had mentioned that working on google docs would be a good idea, because we could all do our portion of the work without actually meeting up; which was nearly impossible due to our busy schedules. Johnny and Rae had mentioned that they are going to be extremely busy and they would rather present the project as long as we told them what we had prepared. • 17. Reflection Paragraph: Multicultural Perspectives In... Reflection Paragraph: Multicultural Perspectives Healthcare is about helping others improve their life, practitioners within this field have kept a promise not to harm the people. At the other end of the spectrum, practitioners are humans as well, holding values dear to them and it might not synthesize with others. As a future occupational therapy assistant (OTA) I have values that I hold dear myself; I find it infuriating to see care basing on classification and abortion as a personal bias. The concept of class structure in healthcare where the basis of the nature of insurance coverage has created an ethical dilemma that borders on a complete disregard for religious beliefs. The fact that treatment sometimes depends on the patient's influence borders on discrimination (Perlman, 2005). Catholic teachings of social justice advocate very strongly on equal treatment of people in the community (McConnaha, 2006). • 19. What Is The Meaning Of My Papa's Waltz Poem From reading the poem "My Papa's Waltz" by Theodore Roethke a person could take away one of two different meanings behind the poem. The two meanings that one could take are as such, it is either a fond outlook on a father coming home drunk after work and playing with his child, or it is a dark outlook of a drunk father coming home and beating his child. While how one interprets it is based on their personal schema during the first time reading the poem, it could be argued that upon further examination of the poem it is obviously the fond outlook of a friendly father. The poem does this with multiple literary devices, all of which seem to have a double meaning in order to have one base how they feel from the first reading on their personal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is a positive meaning because most people enjoy the feeling of being drunk as it numbs them to the negativity in the world. Within the second stanza is also a use of imagery that again has a two possible meanings depending on one's personal schema. The imagery used in stanza is making the mental picture of a feeling. While those with more negative life experiences or outlooks may interpret "My mother's countenance, Could not unfrown itself" with a negative meaning that the mother could not get the frown off of her face unless the beating stopped. On the other hand those with more positive outlooks may experience this line as a mother wanting to be upset with the father for being so rambunctious with the child, but cannot maintain the frown because of the overall silliness and joy experienced by both parties involved. Thus the mother could not remove the frown herself through thinking about it, but could have it removed by watching the father and child. Finally one of the most arguable points that the poem is about an actual dance is in how the poem uses structure. The poem uses structure by having each stanza have four lines as well as an ABAB rhyme scheme both of which are common in songs, especially those which are danced too. Furthermore when you read the poem aloud there is a sort of musical flow to the poem, at least more so than some other poems. It is because of the poems musical nature that its ... Ozymandias Sound And Sense Essay Sound and Sense (Discussion) In Percy Shelley's "Ozymandias", he uses sound and sense devices to strengthen the overall imagery and to emphasize certain points in the poem. Key devices which the author utilizes, include rhyme, meter, alliteration and consonance. "Ozymandias" is a sonnet written in pentameter, however, it is difficult to classify the poem's poetic foot or sonnet type. The poem does follow iambic pentameter sometimes which implies that each group contains an unstressed syllable followed by a stressed syllable such as line four of the poem, "half–sunk, a shatt–er'd vis– age lies, whose frown," but this pattern is not constant. • 23. Gender Segments And Sex Groups During Childhood And Early... Intro: Gender cleavage refers to the tendency for children of the same gender to self–segregate into two same–sex groups, male and female. This phenomenon appears to be a primary factor influencing social and cognitive development during childhood and early adolescence. The peer– reviewed article discussed in this paper focuses on gender cleavage in addition to age–related variances and sex differences during middle childhood. Peer–Review Article: The main point of the article is to analyze cross–sectional data from group preference surveys to determine sex and age–related differences in gender cleavage so that researchers can identify possible developmental aspects in gender cleavage for both boys and girls. Middle childhood gender cleavage studies based on the work of Moreno in 1953, are the foundation of this investigation. The article never clearly stated a hypothesis, but from reading the article, it is possible to make the assumption that researchers were interested in determining why children break up into same–sex groups during critical periods of childhood development and how gender and age play a role in this phenomenon (Smith et al., 2001). Data was collected from 299 students across three coeducational public schools in Australia in 2005. Children in grades 3–6 were the participants in this study. These schools were chosen because they represented diverse socioeconomic divisions, sizes, and school atmosphere and culture. Students were sampled by class groups; one ... • 24. Facial Expression In Hilborn's Speech As indicated before, the human face is very expressive. This point combined with the fact that "the information relayed to the brain in visual presentations, 83% comes via the eyes, 11% via the ears, and 6% through the other senses." (Ibid) leads us to the conclusion that facial expression in a performance plays a vital role in creating mutual feelings between the performer and audience. Hilborn used this technique to enhance his already well–established connection with the audience. His facial expression throughout the performance was precisely in line with the speaker's feeling. Beginning from the initial incident, his face color and expression, relaxed facial muscles, steady gaze and a gentle smile, indicated calmness. This expression displayed the speaker's true happiness in recalling his beloved and their first encounter. (Figure 7) When he expressed OCD symptoms his face would slowly turn red, his neck becomes more rigid and, his teeth clench. However, he still holds his smile all the while. Words, in and of themselves, do not convey the entire message in any communication interaction. There are always nonverbal cues. Even in a telephone conversation, there is are cues in terms of voice inflection, tone, volume, speed. Loudness and/or a harsh tone, for instance, communicates hostility and/or anger. Whether the speaker means to convey that message or not is immaterial because it is the listener's interpretation that will set the tone for the rest of the conversation. No matter how you present yourself in front of this class, the definition of smile, according to Merrian–Webster dictionary, is, "a facial expression in which the eyes brighten and the corners of the mouth curve slightly upward and which expresses especially amusement, pleasure, approval or sometimes scorn". A smile tells us many things about a person and today, I will be presenting you with what smiles mean to all of us. When I think of people's each unique smile or presentation of how people smile, I relate it to costumes at a Halloween party. People all have a certain way and a reason they smile the way they do in certain situations just as people choose different Halloween costumes to present themselves a certain way at parties. There are three points I will be discussing further in regards to people and their smiles. My first topic will explore why people smile. My second one will be how nerves can cause people to smile with certain situations. My third topic is the benefits of smiling. And lastly, is if smiling is contagious or isn't it. This in itself would make many understand the benefits of smiling all of the time. It gives us rewards that benefit our lives. I also believe that smiling is like picking a Halloween costume for a party. You see, having a big, open smile makes you approachable, just like picking a Halloween costume such as Mickey Mouse. When you use your smile to be the first thing others notice, you seem more warm, open, welcoming, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Goldor And Demos: A Short Story I sighed as I watched them both breathe peacefully in their sleep while I nursed the last of wine we kept stashed in the tower. The evening had been enjoyable away from normally tiring rigors of the royal court. She had fallen asleep head in his lap, and the entire area was strewn about with a mess. Of course they had fallen asleep long before me, like usual. A frown crept over my content mood a I had the thought it was a curse. My people had hailed from "Americaine" and thus would fall asleep and wake up much later than the "European" peoples. After continuing to sit like that for some time the frown was replaced with a smile. It did have a few benefits though. Like right now. I don't know how long I spent watching them, but eventually ... The moon was noticeably absent, so the landscape was shaded in a deep darkness. Except for the city in the distance. It shined like a beacon, every tower along the wall bearing its own lantern, and temples were wreathed with fiery braziers that could easily be seen even at this distance. Towering above it all was the tower keep in the center that seemed to crown the entire view with a crown of golden lights. The kingdom would be in danger. The trolls would use an old method, that had just become common knowledge, to usurp the slumbered domains. I was sure the more aggressive Kingdoms would be even worse. I tapped the railing angrily, and began to organize a list of what we needed to do to make sure Demos was fully safe. At some point I finished my drink, but it wasn't until I noticed a sharp pain in my hand that broke my preoccupation. I looked down at my hand and realized I had crushed my shot glass in unconscious anger. Looking one last time at the night sky I re–entered the tower and took to giving myself first–aid, something I was adept at providing now. Those thoughts followed me as I joined them in ...
