Views of Intelligences Old View New View o Intelligence was Fixed o Intelligence was measured by a number o Intelligence was unitary o Intelligence was measured in isolation o Intelligence was used to sort students and predict their success o Intelligence can be developed o Intelligence is not numerically quantifiable and is exhibited during a performance or problem – solving process o Intelligence is measured in context/real – life situations o Intelligence is used to understand human capacities and the many and the varied ways students can achieve o Intelligence can be exhibited in many ways – Multiple Intelligences

Visual/Spatial Intelligence  (Picture Smart)  Sensitivity to:  Colors, shapes, visual puzzles, symmetry, lines, images, charts, maps, videos, and movies  Skills:  Puzzle building, Reading , writing, understanding charts and graphs, has a good sense of direction, sketching, painting, creating visual metaphors and analogies, manipulating images, constructing, fixing, designing practical objects, interpreting visual images.  Possible Career Interests:  Navigators, sculptors, visual artists, inventors, architects, interior designers, mechanics, engineers, photographer, tour guides, scout, and ranger

Intrapersonal Intelligence  (Self Smart)  Sensitivity to:  One’s owns strengths, weaknesses, goals, and desires  Skills:  Recognizing their own strengths and weaknesses, reflecting and analyzing themselves, awareness of their inner feelings, desires and dreams, evaluating their thinking patterns, reasoning with themselves, understanding their role in relationship to others.  Possible Career Paths:  Researchers, theorists, and philosophers

Interpersonal Intelligence  (People Smart)  Sensitivity to:  Body language, moods, voice, feelings  Skills:  Can see things from other perspectives (dual perspective), listening, using empathy, understanding other peoples moods and feelings, counseling, cooperating with groups, noticing people’s moods, motivations and intentions, communicating both verbally and nonverbally, building trust, peaceful conflicts resolution, establishing positive relations with other people.  Possible career Paths:  Counselor, salesperson, politician, business person, teachers, administrators, managers, consultants, therapists, and psychologists.
